25 Jan 2024Is Chad Daybell Reversing His Decision to Throw Lori Under The Bus?00:07:16
In the latest twist of the Chad and Lori Daybell saga, the question arises: Is Chad Daybell now truly alone in his battle against the severe charges he faces? The shocking decision of his long-standing attorney, John Pryor, to request a withdrawal from the case, just months before the trial, has raised eyebrows and stirred speculation about the underlying reasons and implications.

Retired FBI Special Agent and Chief of the Counterintelligence Behavioral Analysis Program, Robin Dreeke, joined Tony Brueski on the "Hidden Killers" podcast to dissect the recent developments. Dreeke, with his extensive background in behavioral analysis, offered intriguing insights into the mindsets of both Chad Daybell and his attorney.

The decision of Daybell's attorney to step away from the case, especially considering the timing, is unusual and raises several questions about Daybell's defense strategy. "Chad screwed," Dreeke stated bluntly, highlighting the dire situation Daybell finds himself in. The departure of Pryor, who has been the "paddle" for Daybell for nearly three years, signals a significant shift in the dynamics of the defense. It appears as though Daybell might be left to navigate these treacherous legal waters alone.

This development is particularly striking given the nature of the charges against Daybell and the complexity of the case. Brueski and Dreeke discussed the challenges of representing someone like Daybell, whose case is not only complicated but also heavily scrutinized by the public and media. Despite the high-profile nature of the case, which could potentially attract defense attorneys looking to make a name for themselves, Daybell’s representation seems to be crumbling.

One of the key questions Brueski posed was the potential strategy behind this sudden change. Is there a hidden tactic at play, or is it merely a realization of the case's unwinnability? Dreeke suggested that it might be a combination of factors, including Daybell's insistence on a particular defense strategy, possibly refusing to "throw the crazy woman under the bus," referring to Lori Vallow Daybell. This reluctance could have led Pryor to believe that there was no viable path to a successful defense.

Moreover, Dreeke hypothesized that if Chad Daybell is indeed shifting away from blaming Lori, as his earlier statements suggested, it could signify a change in his mental state or realization of the gravity of his situation. "I think we might have overestimated Chad being the saner one," Dreeke remarked, highlighting the potential depths of delusion and manipulation in this case.

The discussion also delved into the possible future scenarios for Daybell. With the trial looming and his defense in apparent disarray, the options seem limited and grim. Dreeke and Brueski pondered the implications of this latest development and what it might mean for Daybell's strategy moving forward.

In a case as convoluted and tragic as the Daybell saga, every twist and turn has significant implications. As the trial date approaches, the world watches to see how Chad Daybell, now seemingly isolated and without his long-time legal counsel, will face the serious allegations against him.

Could this latest development be a turning point in the case? Or is it merely another chapter in the ongoing drama surrounding Chad and Lori Daybell? As the legal proceedings progress, these questions will undoubtedly remain at the forefront of public and legal discourse.

25 Jan 2024How Did Chad Daybell's Attorney JUST NOW Realize He's Not Qualified for Capital Murder Case?00:08:16
As the Chad Daybell murder trial looms, a surprising twist has emerged: John Pryor, Daybell’s long-standing attorney, has requested to withdraw from the case, citing non-payment and lack of qualification for a capital murder case. This development, just three months before the trial, raises critical questions about the readiness of Daybell’s defense and the potential impact on the trial's timeline.

Tony Brueski of the "Hidden Killers" podcast recently discussed these developments with Jennifer Coffindaffer, a retired FBI special agent. The conversation delved into the complexities of the situation and the possible reasons behind Pryor’s sudden decision to step away from one of the most high-profile cases in recent memory.

Coffindaffer expressed little surprise at Pryor's decision, considering the immense pressure and workload leading up to a trial. "There’s a reason why they call it trials of your life," she explained, emphasizing the demanding nature of trial preparations. She speculated that Pryor, aware of the time and effort required and knowing the financial resources had dried up, chose this moment to withdraw.

The discussion also touched on the challenges of defending Chad Daybell, especially given the case's high profile and the gruesome nature of the crimes involved. Coffindaffer highlighted the stark contrast between Daybell's case and that of Alex Murdaugh, another high-profile case where the defendant’s attorneys seem to be adequately compensated.

Brueski and Coffindaffer pondered whether Pryor's late withdrawal might be part of a larger strategy, possibly aimed at delaying the trial. A new counsel, assigned just three months before the trial, would undoubtedly need more time to prepare, potentially pushing the trial date further.

The conversation then shifted to the judge's response to Pryor’s request. Coffindaffer recalled the judge's frustration, questioning why Pryor had not prepared earlier for the trial. The judge's concern about potential appeals was also a significant factor, indicating the complexities involved in such high-stakes legal proceedings.

Another angle explored was the likelihood of Daybell’s new defense strategy focusing on shifting the blame to Lori Vallow Daybell. Coffindaffer opined that the defense might portray Chad Daybell as being manipulated by Lori, although the feasibility and effectiveness of such a strategy remain to be seen.

The podcast also delved into the psychological aspects of the case, with Coffindaffer expressing bewilderment at the lack of empathy displayed by individuals like Daybell. "It's all selfish, it's all self-serving," she stated, highlighting the inability of such individuals to acknowledge the gravity of their actions.

As the conversation concluded, Brueski and Coffindaffer touched upon the bizarre and often unpredictable nature of high-profile criminal cases, like that of Chad Daybell. The possibility of a GoFundMe campaign or other unconventional means to finance Daybell’s defense was also humorously speculated upon.

With John Pryor’s withdrawal, the Chad Daybell case takes another unexpected turn, raising questions about the future of the defense and the trial itself. As the legal drama unfolds, one can't help but wonder: What lies ahead for Chad Daybell, and how will these latest developments shape the outcome of this already convoluted and tragic case?

26 Jan 2024Did Chad Daybell's Attorney Plan to Withdraw To Push Trial Back?00:05:28
In a startling development in the Chad Daybell case, John Pryor, Daybell's attorney for several years, has requested to withdraw from the case just three months before the trial. This unexpected move raises critical questions about the defense's readiness and strategy, leaving many to speculate on the implications for Daybell's upcoming trial.

Tony Brueski, host of the "Hidden Killers" podcast, delved into this latest twist with Eric Faddis, a former felony prosecutor and attorney. The discussion shed light on the complexities and potential motivations behind Pryor's sudden decision to distance himself from one of the most high-profile and convoluted criminal cases in recent memory.

Pryor's request to withdraw, citing non-payment and lack of qualification for a capital case, has surprised legal experts and the public alike. "I'm not convinced that Chad Daybell stopped paying the bill on January 16, 2024," Faddis commented, suggesting that the financial issues might have persisted for months, if not years. According to Faddis, the timing of the motion raises concerns about whether it could potentially disrupt the trial and further delay justice for the victims.

The podcast explored the possibility of a strategic motive behind Pryor's late withdrawal. Brueski and Faddis discussed whether Pryor intentionally stayed on until close to the trial, knowing he would eventually withdraw, thereby forcing a postponement. This tactic would give the new counsel insufficient time to prepare, possibly benefiting Daybell. Faddis pointed out the unusual nature of Pryor's claim about not being qualified to argue a death penalty case, considering death penalty has been on the table since the case's inception.

Faddis also touched upon the potential professional repercussions for Pryor, given the timing and nature of his withdrawal request. "The judge might be disinclined to let him off," Faddis noted, highlighting that judges often resist changes in counsel that could derail impending trials. He also speculated that the judge might reprimand Pryor for his handling of the motion.

The conversation shifted to the broader implications for Daybell's defense strategy. With Lori Vallow Daybell already convicted, Faddis suggested that Pryor might have hoped to negotiate a lesser charge for Chad Daybell, folding it into Lori's conviction. However, as the trial date nears and with the recent development, any positive public relations benefit that Pryor might have gained is now at risk.

Brueski and Faddis concluded their discussion by reflecting on the unpredictable nature of the Daybell case. With each new development, the case continues to surprise and confound observers, making it one of the most challenging and intriguing criminal cases in recent years.

As the trial approaches, the departure of Chad Daybell's long-standing attorney adds another layer of complexity to an already convoluted case. Will this latest twist benefit Daybell, or will it further complicate his path to a fair trial? As the legal drama unfolds, the world watches, waiting to see how this unexpected turn of events will impact the final outcome of the Daybell case.

30 Jan 2024Is Chad Daybell's Delusional Thinking Making It Impossible to Represent Him in Court?00:06:51
Is Chad Daybell now navigating treacherous legal waters without a paddle? This is the question on many minds as Tony Brueski, host of the "Hidden Killers" podcast, delves into the latest development in the Daybell case with retired FBI Special Agent Robin Dreeke. The surprising move by John Pryor, Daybell’s attorney for nearly three years, to exit the case mere months before the trial, has sparked a whirlwind of speculation and analysis.

John Pryor, once a steadfast legal aid to Chad Daybell, has expressed a desire to withdraw from the case, citing a lack of qualification for a capital murder case and non-payment issues. This sudden development, just three months shy of the trial, raises questions about the sustainability and ethics of legal representation in high-profile cases like Daybell’s. “Chad’s hosed,” Dreeke candidly remarked on the podcast, highlighting the dire straits Daybell finds himself in without Pryor's legal expertise.

Brueski probes into the implications of this legal shakeup, considering the severity of the charges against Daybell. The case, marred by the horrific killings of children and entangled in a web of deception and manipulation allegedly spun by both Chad Daybell and Lori Vallow Daybell, poses a complex challenge for any defense attorney. Dreeke, with his background in behavioral analysis, offers a unique perspective on the motives and mindset behind Pryor's withdrawal.

One of the most intriguing aspects of this case is the shifting blame game between Chad and Lori. Initially, it appeared that Chad Daybell's defense might involve pinning the blame on Lori, portraying her as the mastermind behind the heinous acts. However, Dreeke and Brueski speculate that a potential change of heart by Daybell might have prompted Pryor's withdrawal. “Maybe all of a sudden, Chad decided, I’m not going to throw the crazy woman under the bus,” Dreeke surmises, suggesting a possible deviation in the defense strategy that Pryor might have been preparing for.

The podcast discussion also touches on the unique dynamics of the Daybell case, often described as having cult-like elements. Dreeke points out the unusual nature of Chad and Lori’s relationship and their shared delusions, which have captivated public attention and baffled legal experts. Brueski and Dreeke's conversation raises the question: If Chad Daybell is no longer willing to implicate Lori Vallow in their shared crimes, what defense strategy remains?

Dreeke’s insights, combined with Brueski’s probing questions, paint a picture of a case unraveling at the seams as it nears its crucial trial phase. The withdrawal of Pryor, a seasoned attorney, leaves Chad Daybell in an increasingly precarious position, potentially without a clear legal strategy or adequate representation.

As the discussion on "Hidden Killers" concludes, one can't help but ponder the ultimate fate of Chad Daybell. With his legal team in disarray and his co-accused, Lori Vallow, already facing her own legal consequences, the path ahead for Daybell seems fraught with uncertainty and the looming possibility of severe punishment. The question remains: What led to this sudden and significant shift in Chad Daybell's defense, and what will it mean for the outcome of one of the most disturbing and complex criminal cases in recent memory?

30 Jan 2024Is Chad Daybell's Attorney John Prior Desperate to Find A Defense Angle?00:07:51
Is Chad Daybell's defense unraveling mere months before his high-profile murder trial? This question looms large in the latest episode of the "Hidden Killers" podcast, where host Tony Brueski delves into the recent courtroom drama with former Felony Prosecutor and attorney Eric Faddis. The focal point of their discussion: John Pryor, Daybell's attorney, seeking withdrawal from the case and the judge's firm denial of this request.

Pryor's attempt to exit the case, citing non-payment and his lack of qualification for a capital murder case, was met with skepticism by the judge. "You signed up to be Chad Daybell's attorney... You're on the ride," the judge reportedly declared. Faddis, joining Brueski, dissected the merits of Pryor's claims.

Discussing the financial aspect, Faddis noted, "Daybell’s been in custody for quite some time, so I doubt that the attorney is just now learning Chad Daybell can’t pay." He suggested that Pryor should have foreseen the financial difficulties and communicated them to the court much earlier.

The conversation then turned to Pryor's sudden realization of his lack of qualification for a capital case. Faddis likened it to a lawyer taking on a complex case outside their expertise and realizing their inadequacy too late. "It would be a calamity," he said, implying that such a realization should have been made long before the trial was imminent.

The timing of Pryor's withdrawal request, just three months before the trial, sparked debate over its potential strategic underpinnings. Brueski and Faddis explored whether Pryor's move could be a calculated play to create an appellate issue, perhaps a bid to save Daybell's life by later arguing ineffective counsel.

Faddis elucidated the implications of such a strategy. "If Chad Daybell is convicted and they’ve got a statement from his attorney saying, ‘Hey, I’m not good enough to, or I don’t have the experience to handle a death penalty case’... Is an appellate court going to look at that and say, ‘gosh, did this guy really get a fair shake?’"

The dialogue shifted to the nuances of appellate issues in death penalty cases. While a successful appeal could potentially overturn the death sentence, Faddis clarified it wouldn't necessarily reverse the entire conviction. "It likely wouldn’t overturn the entire conviction at the guilt phase at the trial level," he stated.

The duo speculated whether Pryor's arguments, perceived by some as embarrassing admissions of professional inadequacy, were actually part of a larger, more desperate strategy to at least spare Daybell from the death penalty. "Is this John Pryor essentially saying, ‘Hey, Chad Daybell, I can’t save your freedom, but I might be able to spare your life’?" pondered Faddis.

As the conversation wrapped up, Brueski and Faddis agreed that the situation surrounding Daybell's defense is as complex as it is extraordinary. With the trial fast approaching and the defense seemingly in disarray, the question that now hangs in the balance is: What impact will Pryor's continued, albeit reluctant, representation have on the outcome of Chad Daybell's case? And in the shadow of the legal drama, can justice be served?

31 Jan 2024 Is Chad Daybell's Attorney Damaging His Reputation to Save His Life?00:06:33
In a recent episode of the "Hidden Killers" podcast, Tony Brueski and retired FBI Special Agent Robin Dreeke unpack the latest twist in the Chad and Lori Daybell saga. As the Daybell case moves ever closer to trial, John Pryor, Chad Daybell's attorney, has expressed a desire to withdraw from the case, citing non-payment and his lack of qualification for a capital murder case. This sudden development raises critical questions about the defense’s preparedness and Daybell's fate in the upcoming trial.

The discussion begins with Brueski highlighting the unusual nature of Pryor's request. "You've had more than a year," Brueski notes, echoing the judge's sentiment that the timing of the request seems implausible. This sentiment is shared by Dreeke, who with a hint of irony in his voice, comments, “Chad’s hosed.” The gravity of the situation is not lost on either speaker, as they delve into the implications of an attorney abandoning his client at such a critical juncture.

Dreeke, with his background in behavioral analysis, points out the oddity of Pryor’s move, given that the nature of Daybell’s case and his financial instability were apparent from the start. "The attorney was completely witting of the sound," Dreeke says, implying that Pryor’s reasons for withdrawal might be more complex than they appear.

The conversation then shifts to the potential motivations behind Pryor’s decision. Brueski speculates about the lack of alternative legal representation for Daybell, wondering if the case's "bottom of the barrel" nature and Daybell's bizarre belief system are deterring other attorneys. Dreeke agrees, suggesting that the “magical thinking” and cult-like elements surrounding Daybell make the case unappealing and challenging for legal professionals.

Dreeke and Brueski delve deeper into the dynamics of the Daybell case, contrasting it with other high-profile cases where defendants, despite heinous charges, find representation. They ponder whether Daybell's entrenched and delusional beliefs, which came to the fore during Lori's trial, are a deterrent for potential legal counsel. “It’s so magical thinking that even if you want to try and get this person off, you do require some form of cooperation on the part of your client,” Brueski observes.

The podcast also addresses the broader implications of Pryor's withdrawal, including how it might affect Daybell's potential grounds for appeal. They discuss the challenge of adequately representing someone with such deeply ingrained, irrational beliefs and whether this could be a valid argument for inadequate representation.

As the conversation wraps up, Brueski and Dreeke ponder the future of Chad Daybell post-conviction. They speculate on whether Daybell, due to his notoriety, might attempt to profit from his story, considering the morbid fascination of some members of the public with notorious criminals. This brings up questions about the application of Son of Sam laws in Idaho and whether Daybell could indeed profit from his infamy.

In closing, the "Hidden Killers" podcast leaves its audience with a poignant question: With his legal defenses crumbling and the trial imminent, what is the fate of Chad Daybell? And in a broader sense, what does this case reveal about the limits of the legal system in dealing with defendants who are lost in their delusional worlds? As Brueski aptly puts it, "We're going to be talking about this one for quite a while."

31 Jan 2024Is Chad Daybell’s Attorney Motion To Leave A Strategic Move To Save Chad's Life?00:07:16
As the trial of Chad Daybell draws near, the sudden request of his attorney, John Pryor, to withdraw from the case has thrown a wrench into the proceedings. In a recent episode of the "Hidden Killers" podcast, Tony Brueski discusses this unexpected turn of events with Jennifer Coffindaffer, a retired FBI special agent. The conversation centers around the reasoning behind Pryor's decision and its implications for the high-profile case.

Pryor's reasons for wanting to leave — non-payment and his self-professed lack of qualification for a capital murder case — were deemed insufficient by the judge. Coffindaffer expresses some surprise at this decision, recalling previous indications that the judge might have been leaning towards approving the withdrawal. "You know, if you don't feel like you can do this or you're not qualified, I don't know how I'm going to, you know, push you to do it," she paraphrases the judge's earlier sentiment. The denial of the motion, therefore, marks a significant twist.

The discussion shifts to Pryor's long-term involvement in the case, starting in 2021, and his financial relationship with Daybell. Coffindaffer notes, "His house was even bequeathed to this attorney. I have that paperwork somewhere." She also points out that Pryor has faced similar situations before, leading her to speculate that he might have "bled the turnip dry" and is now seeking an exit due to the lack of further payment.

Brueski questions whether Pryor's difficulty in finding a second chair attorney for the case indicates its toxic nature. Coffindaffer suggests that Pryor may feel inadequate to defend Daybell effectively. "I think in my opinion, he's intimidated that he doesn't have the goods to put on a good defense," she observes.

The conversation then turns to the potential strategic implications of Pryor's actions. Brueski theorizes that Pryor might be setting up an appellate issue to save Daybell's life. By stating on record his unpreparedness and lack of qualification, Pryor could be laying the groundwork for an appeal on the grounds of inadequate representation, potentially leading to the death penalty being taken off the table.

Coffindaffer agrees with this hypothesis, drawing parallels to Lori Vallow's trial where her defense's minimal engagement could be used as a basis for appeal. She remarks, "I think it was such a double-edged sword," referring to the judge's decision to keep Pryor on the case to respect the defendant's right to a speedy trial.

As the conversation draws to a close, Coffindaffer and Brueski delve into the complexities of legal strategy in high-stakes cases. They discuss the balance between an attorney's ethical obligations and the strategic maneuvers that might be employed in seemingly unwinnable cases like Daybell's. The key question they leave the audience with is: In the chess game of legal defense, is Pryor's move a calculated strategy or an admission of defeat? And what could this mean for the future of Chad Daybell's trial and potential appeals?

30 Jan 2024Is John Prior An Effective Attorney For Chad Daybell?00:05:15
In the ever-twisting saga of Chad Daybell's upcoming trial, a new chapter unfolds. With just three months remaining before the trial date, Daybell's attorney, John Pryor, made a surprising move. His plea to withdraw from the case was firmly rejected by the judge. The developments in this high-profile case have left the public and legal experts alike pondering the implications of this decision.

Tony Brueski of the "Hidden Killers" podcast recently discussed these developments with Defense Attorney and podcast host Bob Motta. The conversation delved into the reasons behind Pryor's withdrawal request and what it means for Daybell's defense.

Pryor cited two primary reasons for his withdrawal: the non-payment of legal fees and his lack of qualification for a capital murder case. However, the judge, unfazed by these arguments, firmly stated that Pryor knew what he was signing up for and denied his request to leave the case. “You have stamped your ticket and are in the park. You're on the ride,” the judge effectively communicated.

Bob Motta, analyzing Pryor's actions, suggested that the timing and nature of the withdrawal request seemed more like a strategic move to stall the trial. "This is clearly a move by the defense to stall," Motta explained, acknowledging that the high stakes of a death penalty case could motivate such tactics.

However, Motta dismissed the idea that Pryor's actions were part of a long-term strategy to save Daybell from the death penalty through appellate issues. He argued that the strength of the evidence against Daybell would likely overshadow any claims of ineffective counsel. “The strength of the evidence was so powerful that it wouldn't have changed the verdict,” Motta stated, emphasizing the solidity of the prosecution's case.

Daybell's case, set against the backdrop of allegations of murder and religious fanaticism, has captivated the nation. His wife, Lori Vallow Daybell, has already faced trial, with minimal defense presented on her behalf. The prosecution's case against Chad Daybell, according to Motta, appears even stronger.

As the trial date approaches, the decision to keep Pryor on the case raises numerous questions. How will Pryor navigate the defense with the cloud of his attempted withdrawal hanging over the proceedings? Will this affect Daybell's chances of a fair trial? And what does this mean for the future of high-profile criminal defense, where attorneys may feel trapped between professional obligations and challenging clients?

These questions remain as the clock ticks down to one of the most anticipated trials in recent memory. The eyes of the nation are fixed on the courtroom, awaiting the next twist in the convoluted tale of Chad and Lori Daybell.

As Brueski and Motta concluded their discussion, the question lingered in the air: What unforeseen developments might still emerge in the lead-up to Chad Daybell's trial?

31 Jan 2024What Will Chad Daybell Argue At Trial After Already Admitting Guilt?00:10:17
In the perplexing case of Chad Daybell, a significant legal twist has emerged just months before his trial. Daybell's attorney, John Pryor, expressed a desire to withdraw from the case, citing a lack of qualification for a capital murder case and non-payment of legal fees. However, the judge denied this request, compelling Pryor to continue representing Daybell. This decision prompts a crucial question: How will this impact Daybell's defense strategy?

Tony Brueski of the "Hidden Killers" podcast explored this development with Bob Motta, a defense attorney and podcast host. Their conversation delved into the potential implications of Pryor's continued involvement in Daybell's defense.

Motta highlighted the surprising nature of Pryor's arguments for withdrawing, considering they were well-known factors for quite some time. This raised suspicions about whether the move was a strategic play to delay the trial. "This is clearly a move by the defense to stall," Motta noted, pointing out the judge's skepticism about Pryor's sudden realization of his ineligibility to handle a death penalty case.

The discussion then shifted to the defense strategy for Daybell, particularly in light of his previous statement implying that Lori Vallow, his wife, influenced his actions. Motta questioned the viability of such a defense, given that it borders on an admission of guilt. “It's like, as we know, they don't have the insanity defense available to them in Idaho,” Motta explained, casting doubt on the effectiveness of any mental defect defense.

Motta and Brueski also discussed the unique challenges of representing Daybell, given the bizarre and cult-like elements of the case. They pondered whether Daybell's belief in the mystical and religious delusions presented by Lori could be a credible defense. Motta suggested that Lori was the mastermind behind the crimes, with Chad being more of a follower in their twisted dynamic.

The conversation then turned to the potential appellate issues that Pryor's continued involvement could create. If Daybell is convicted, could his representation by an attorney who openly admitted to being unqualified and unwilling to represent him lead to an appeal? Motta was skeptical, believing the strength of the evidence against Daybell would likely override any claims of ineffective counsel.

As the trial date approaches, the question remains: what defense strategy will Daybell's team employ, and how will Pryor's reluctance to represent him affect the trial's outcome? The conversation between Brueski and Motta concluded with a reflection on the complexities of this high-profile case and the challenges facing those involved in it.

As the legal proceedings continue to unfold, the public and legal community alike wait with bated breath to see how this latest development will play out in court. Will the decision to keep Pryor as Daybell's attorney prove to be a strategic misstep or a calculated move in a larger legal game? Only time will tell as the trial of Chad Daybell looms closer, leaving many pondering the intricacies of this convoluted and tragic case.

01 Feb 2024Does Chad Daybell Need An Attorney That Is Truly Qualified To Defend His Life?00:06:08
As the trial of Chad Daybell nears, a critical turn of events has unfolded. John Pryor, Daybell's attorney, has made a startling request to withdraw from the case, mere months before the trial is set to commence. This latest development in the Daybell saga raises a plethora of questions about the defense's preparedness and the overall trajectory of this high-profile case.

Tony Brueski of the "Hidden Killers" podcast sat down with psychotherapist and author Shavaun Scott to dissect the situation. They discussed the potential consequences of Pryor's sudden desire to distance himself from the case and the impact it may have on Chad Daybell's defense.

Pryor's request, citing non-payment and his lack of qualification for a capital murder case, was met with a firm denial from the judge. He was instructed to continue representing Daybell, a decision that could have significant ramifications for the trial. Brueski and Scott pondered the implications of this decision. "Is this a big red flag for the representation of Chad Daybell?" Brueski asked, highlighting the challenges Pryor faces in defending a client embroiled in such a convoluted and notorious case.

Scott expressed skepticism about the timing of Pryor's request. "Wouldn’t we have seen this coming a long time ago?" she questioned, pointing out the apparent lateness of Pryor's realization of his professional limitations and financial situation. This aspect of the case brings to light the intricate dynamics between legal strategy and the actual execution of defense in complex criminal trials.

The discussion then turned to the psychological aspects of the case, particularly the defense's argument that Chad Daybell was essentially under the spell of Lori Vallow Daybell. Scott critically assessed this strategy, deeming it "absurd," especially considering the lead role both Chad and Lori played in their pseudo-cult activities. "It's absurd. That defense that Lori made me do it, I think is absolutely absurd," Scott stated, casting doubt on the viability of such a defense in a case as extreme as Daybell's.

Brueski and Scott also explored the potential impact of Pryor's insistence on his unpreparedness and his declared inadequacy for the case. Could this lead to an appeal on the grounds of inadequate representation? "Another can of worms," as Scott described it, this aspect adds another layer of complexity to a case already shrouded in controversy and public scrutiny.

As the Daybell case progresses, the crucial question remains: With his defense in apparent disarray and the looming threat of the death penalty, what path lies ahead for Chad Daybell? Will the late-game legal maneuvers and psychological defenses hold any water in court, or are they merely desperate grasps at straws in a seemingly unwinnable case?

As the trial date approaches, the public and legal community alike will watch closely to see how these developments unfold. The Daybell case, with its intricate web of legal, psychological, and ethical dilemmas, continues to captivate and perplex, leaving many to wonder about the true nature of justice in such a bewildering and tragic saga.

21 Feb 2024Chad Daybell Trial May Face Further Delay Over Evidence Dispute00:06:07
The upcoming trial of Chad Daybell in Ada County could encounter delays as his lawyer, John Prior, seeks additional time to address recently revealed scientific evidence, potentially impacting the trial scheduled to begin on April 1.

The defense's request for a trial delay, made on January 31, cited the emergence of new scientific evidence. However, the prosecution, in response, objected to the motion, expressing uncertainty over the specific evidence referenced by Prior, as it was not listed in detail.

Prosecutors indicated a potential connection to items found in an FBI report related to the case against Chad's wife, Lori Vallow-Daybell, as well as pictures of fingerprints belonging to Alex Cox, and another FBI report intended for Chad's trial. Despite this, they affirmed that they do not intend to utilize information from the Arizona case during Chad's trial, and much of the other evidence is already part of the Idaho case.

Chad Daybell faces serious charges, including conspiracy to commit murder in connection with the deaths of Lori Vallow-Daybell’s two children, J.J. Vallow and Tylee Ryan, as well as murder in the death of his former wife, Tammy Daybell.

In light of the ongoing dispute over evidence, the trial's start date of April 1 may be subject to further delays, pending resolution of the defense's request and subsequent proceedings.

The case has drawn significant public attention due to its complex and tragic circumstances, with many eager to see justice served for the victims and their families. As legal proceedings unfold, the courtroom drama surrounding Chad Daybell's trial continues to capture the interest of observers both locally and nationwide.

Is defense attorney John Pryor simply stalling for time or playing to a long-term strategy of creating grounds for an appeal? Dreeke and Brueski discuss Pryor's motivations in a case where his client's guilt is nearly assured.

27 Feb 2024Psychotherapist Shavaun Scott Tries To Explain The Latest Crazy Behavior of Lori Vallow Daybell00:04:49
Does Lori Vallow Daybell's courtroom appearance signal a chilling lack of remorse, or the deepening grip of delusion?

In this episode of "Hidden Killers", Tony Brueski and psychotherapist Shavaun Scott dissect Lori Vallow Daybell's recent court appearance. Shockingly, Lori appeared well-groomed and seemingly confident, leading Tony to remark she looked like "she was walking into a game show."

Shavaun offers a chilling interpretation: "Her narcissism is on display...she has that psychotic glow." Yet, as her attorneys likely grapple with this presentation, more challenges lie ahead for Lori Vallow Daybell.

The discussion then turns to two major upcoming events in the case: the potential psychological impact of her predicted "end of the world" date passing without incident, and the possibility of Chad Daybell using a defense that pins the blame squarely on Lori.

Shavaun offers expert insight, explaining how deeply rooted psychosis allows for the alteration of reality. "When the world doesn't end...they just come up with a reason and...change the date."

Closing Question: Could Chad's expected defense strategy finally break Lori's detachment, or will her delusion shield her from the consequences of her actions?

29 Feb 2024What Is Going Through The Narcissistic Mind Of Lori Vallow Daybell?00:08:24
Is Lori Vallow's narcissistic delusion so strong that she'll remain unfazed when her supposed 'end of the world' prophecy fails, and her own husband potentially betrays her?

On this episode of "Hidden Killers", Tony Brueski and former defense attorney Lori Hellis examine Lori Vallow's courtroom antics. Lori, currently writing a book on the case, describes Vallow's behavior as that of a narcissist who revels in the spotlight.

They discuss what might happen when Lori's carefully constructed delusion starts crumbling around her.  Her supposed doomsday date will come and go, making her previous predictions about the apocalypse fall flat.  Additionally, with Chad Daybell's trial approaching, his defense appears likely to pin the blame squarely on Lori.

Lori Hellis, familiar with the case's intricate details, explains why Lori's attorneys put up little defense, while Chad's lawyer, John Pryor, seems poised for a much more aggressive approach.

Closing Question: Could the narcissist's mask finally slip, or will Lori Vallow continue to twist reality to fit her disturbing narrative?

On this episode of "Hidden Killers", Tony Brueski and former defense attorney Lori Hellis analyze the potential defense strategy for Chad Daybell. Lori shares her belief that Chad's team will paint him as a naive, easily influenced man who was completely under the spell of Lori Vallow.

They discuss the challenges of claiming ignorance when Chad not only authored numerous books about doomsday prophecies but was a regular speaker at events promoting these ideas.  Lori notes that Chad's writings and actions make it much harder for him to play the "innocent dope" than it was for Lori Vallow.

The conversation also touches on the "doomsday prepper" subculture and why Utah seems particularly susceptible to multi-level marketing schemes.

Closing Question: Could Chad Daybell have just been a fame-seeking author who found himself in too deep, or did he actively contribute to the tragic events?

Pre-Order Lori's book! Lori Hellis, who's been deeply immersed in this case, offers expert insights in her upcoming book, "Children of Darkness and Light", available for pre-order now. Stayed tuned for her return to "Hidden Killers" later this year for an in-depth analysis!

05 Mar 2024Lori Vallow's Extradition Raises Questions Over Black Box Contents00:06:28
Maricopa County Sheriff's Office (MCSO) deputies, on a mission to extradite Lori Vallow from a prison facility in Idaho, encountered a curious addition to her possessions - a locked black box. This revelation has sparked intrigue surrounding its contents and their relevance to ongoing legal proceedings.

Newly obtained records shed light on Vallow's extradition journey, costing MCSO over $15,000, during which deputies were instructed to secure the black box and later book it into evidence. The contents, revealed through video footage, included electronic case files and notebooks, shedding further light on the legal complexities surrounding Vallow's case.

According to deputies, Vallow, despite her incarceration, remained "extremely talkative" and "cooperative" throughout the journey, even posing inquiries about potential indictments against her husband, Chad Daybell, in Arizona. This inquiry comes in the wake of the Maricopa County Attorney's Office's decision not to prosecute Daybell in related cases.

The black box, emblazoned with a label reading "Property of Means Law Office, PLLC," has raised questions about its connection to Vallow's legal representation in Idaho. The contents, including hard drives and a laptop, hint at the depth of legal complexities surrounding Vallow's extradition and subsequent legal battles.

Vallow's case has garnered national attention, stemming from the tragic deaths of her children, Tylee and JJ, and her connection to the death of her former husband, Charles Vallow, and Chad Daybell's first wife, Tammy Daybell. While Vallow faces two conspiracy to commit murder charges in Maricopa County, her inquiries about Daybell's potential indictment underscore the ongoing legal saga surrounding this high-profile case.

As Vallow awaits trial in the Estrella Jail, the revelation of the black box's contents adds yet another layer of intrigue to a case that has captivated public interest and legal scrutiny alike.

29 Mar 2024The Final Judgement Chad Daybell's Court Battle00:06:36
The podcast "Hidden Killers With Tony Brueski" features a discussion with retired FBI Special Agent Robin Dreeke about Chad Daybell's upcoming trial. Daybell faces multiple charges, including conspiracy to commit first-degree murder, the murders of Tylee Ryan, JJ Vallo, and Tammy Daybell, along with charges related to fraud. Key points include:

  • Chad Daybell's defense may claim manipulation by Lori Vallow, presenting him as a victim to possibly mitigate his sentence.
  • Speculation on the source of funding for Daybell's defense, given his indigent status, raises questions about the use of state resources.
  • The defense strategy appears to aim for a lighter sentence rather than outright acquittal, considering the overwhelming evidence against Daybell.
  • The conversation touches on the peculiarities of the case, including the bizarre claims and defenses likely to emerge during the trial.
  • Dreeke and Brueski ponder the outcome and implications of the trial, questioning the effectiveness of any defense in the face of such damning charges.

03 Apr 2024The Dark Side of Devotion Chad Daybell's Courtroom Battle00:05:44
The podcast "Hidden Killers With Tony Brueski" features a discussion with former prosecutor and defense attorney Eric Faddis on the upcoming trial of Chad Daybell, highlighting the complexities and potential defenses in a case filled with accusations of murder, conspiracy, and insurance fraud. Key points include:

  • Charges Against Chad Daybell: He faces multiple counts, including conspiracy to commit first-degree murder and insurance fraud, stemming from the deaths of Tylee Ryan, JJ Vallow, and Tammy Daybell.
  • Comparison to Lori Vallow's Trial: Faddis anticipates Chad Daybell's trial will be less sensational than Lori Vallow's but notes the prosecution will likely focus on financial motives, including insurance fraud, alongside religious extremism.
  • Possible Defense Strategies: Speculation about Daybell's defense centers on potential claims of duress or influence by Lori Vallow, though doubts remain about the viability of such arguments.
  • Expert Witnesses: The defense may call expert witnesses to discuss the impact of religious extremism or psychological factors on Daybell's actions, aiming to influence sentencing rather than secure an acquittal.

04 Apr 2024Chad Daybell's Defense, A Puppet, A Witch, and A Henchman Walk into a Bar...00:09:41
In the latest episode of "Hidden Killers With Tony Brueski," Bob Motta, defense attorney and host of "Defense Diaries," delves into the abyss of the Chad Daybell case. Here are the not-so-light-hearted highlights:

  • Jury selection for Chad Daybell's trial is anticipated to be as drawn out as the case itself, reflecting the vast public interest and media coverage.
  • The trial's length, estimated between six to ten weeks, sets the stage for a marathon of legal maneuvers.
  • Lori Vallow’s trial is mentioned as a benchmark, albeit with Chad facing a different set of evidence, including a less convenient alibi.
  • The defense strategy for Chad seems to be conjuring the ghost of Lori's deceased brother, Alex Cox, as the chief villain, with Chad and Lori as mere puppets under his sinister influence.
  • Motta speculates on a defense narrative casting Chad as an unwitting participant, ensnared by Lori's malevolent spell and Alex's dark deeds.
  • The possibility of challenging the mens rea aspect of the charges against Chad through claims of mental defect (sans an insanity defense) is discussed, painting Lori as the mastermind behind a bizarre belief system involving dark and light scales, demons, and other metaphysical mumbo jumbo.
  • The conversation touches on the absurdity of trying to convince a jury of Chad's lack of intent, based on a belief that the victims were not human but rather possessed vessels.
  • Speculation abounds regarding whether Chad will flip on Lori, painting her as the orchestrator of the murders, in a desperate bid to avoid the death penalty.
  • The discussion concludes with ponderings on the potential impact of Chad's trial on Lori's defense in her upcoming trial, with a side of speculation about the insanity defense in Arizona.

03 Apr 2024Chad Daybell's Trial Begins with Intensive Jury Selection Process00:11:09
As the trial of Chad Guy Daybell began on Monday, the courtroom brimmed with anticipation, marking a significant chapter in the ongoing saga of the 2019 murders of Lori Vallow Daybell's children, Joshua “JJ” Vallow and Tylee Ryan, along with the death of Chad's late wife, Tammy Daybell.

Following Lori Vallow Daybell's conviction and life sentence last year, Chad Daybell now faces the weight of justice, with charges of conspiracy to commit murder and first-degree murder looming over him. The trial carries added gravity due to the potential imposition of the death penalty, setting a somber tone for the legal proceedings ahead.

The pivotal phase of jury selection, anticipated to span two weeks, underscores the paramount importance of securing impartial jurors capable of discerning both guilt and potential punishment. Legal analyst Greg Skordas emphasizes the necessity of jurors willing to abide by the principles of the law, particularly regarding the death penalty, amidst the intense public scrutiny surrounding the case.

Skordas explains the challenges of maintaining impartiality amidst the case's notoriety, stressing the imperative of jurors untainted by previous trial proceedings. Amidst public opinion and lingering questions, the court hopes to uphold the sanctity of due process, ensuring a fair trial for Chad Daybell.

Prosecutors are poised to present a comprehensive case, carefully detailing the charges against Daybell and substantiating their pursuit of the death penalty. Skordas anticipates an exhaustive presentation, akin to leaving "no stone unturned," underscoring the gravity of the allegations and the pursuit of justice for the victims.

In contrast to Lori Vallow Daybell's trial, where no witnesses were called, Chad Daybell's defense plans to present witnesses and experts, signaling a departure from previous legal strategies. This marked difference underscores the unique complexities of Chad Daybell's case and the nuanced defense strategies employed.

With an estimated trial duration of eight to twelve weeks, Chad Daybell's trial promises to be a lengthy legal ordeal, delving into the intricate details of the case and scrutinizing every facet of the evidence presented. In the event of a guilty verdict, the trial will enter a second penalty phase, wherein the jury will deliberate on the appropriate punishment, further prolonging the legal proceedings.

As Chad Daybell's trial unfolds, the eyes of the nation remain fixed on the courtroom, awaiting the culmination of a gripping legal saga fraught with tragedy and intrigue.

08 Apr 2024Daybell's Desperation: The Scapegoat Strategy Unveiled00:09:31
In the latest episode of "Hidden Killers With Tony Brueski," Jennifer Coffindaffer, a retired FBI Special Agent, dissects the impending trial of Chad Daybell, contrasting it with the bizarre elements of Lori Vallow's case. As Daybell's trial gears up, expectations are set for a defense strategy heavily reliant on discrediting evidence and redirecting blame towards Lori Vallow. Coffindaffer predicts a lineup of expert witnesses ranging from digital forensic experts attempting to absolve Daybell of his physical presence at crucial crime scenes, to medical examiners questioning the cause of Tammy Daybell's death. However, the gruesome nature of the crimes, especially the murder of children found in Daybell's yard, presents an insurmountable challenge for his defense. Despite efforts to distance Daybell from the acts, the evidence—like damning phone calls—paints a picture of a man far from innocent. Coffindaffer speculates on the defense's potential use of subpar expert witnesses due to financial constraints, contrasting with the prosecution's expectedly robust expert testimony. The possibility of Daybell taking the stand is discussed as a desperate move, contingent on the trial's trajectory. The dynamic between Lori Vallow and Chad Daybell is scrutinized, noting Vallow's steadfast refusal to incriminate Daybell, which could influence the trial's outcome. Coffindaffer humorously comments on Vallow's improved appearance in jail, hinting at the bizarre juxtaposition of her physical transformation against the backdrop of her heinous crimes.

  • Daybell's defense strategy likely to focus on discrediting evidence and implicating Lori Vallow.
  • Expectation of expert witnesses challenging the presence of Daybell at crime scenes and questioning Tammy Daybell's cause of death.
  • The challenge of overcoming evidence related to the murder of Vallow's children found on Daybell's property.
  • Speculation on the quality of expert witnesses due to financial limitations.
  • The potential desperation move of Daybell testifying, dependent on the trial's progress.
  • Lori Vallow's unwavering stance not to incriminate Daybell and her notable physical appearance improvement in jail.

10 Apr 2024When Your Client Believes in Zombies: The Chad Daybell Defense Playbook00:06:10
In a captivating episode of 'Hidden Killers With Tony Brueski,' the daunting task of jury selection in Chad Daybell's trial takes center stage, as discussed by Attorney Eric Faddis. As Daybell's trial unfolds, finding impartial jurors emerges as a Herculean task, especially considering the case's high-profile nature and its intricate web of apocalyptic beliefs. Faddis highlights the strategic pursuit of jurors who are less likely to have predetermined judgments, emphasizing the search for individuals without children, those holding unconventional beliefs, or simply the uninformed. The conversation ventures into the realms of social media scrutiny, expert witness preparation, and the looming question of whether Daybell should take the stand. With Daybell's narrative potentially pivoting on the influence of Lori Vallow Daybell and the absence of the now-deceased Alex Cox, the defense might aim to sculpt a story that minimizes his culpability. This episode peels back the layers of legal strategy, expert witness dynamics, and the ethical quandaries faced in one of the most bizarre trials of the century.

Main Points:
  • Jury selection challenges include finding jurors unaffected by the case's publicity, those without children, and individuals open to unconventional ideas.
  • Social media plays a critical role in vetting potential jurors, uncovering biases not readily apparent in court.
  • The defense may utilize mental health experts to portray Daybell as detached from reality and crime scene investigators to dissect the physical evidence.
  • Daybell's testimony hinges on the trial's unfolding and might be essential if positioning Lori Vallow Daybell as the primary perpetrator.
  • The deceased Alex Cox presents an opportunity for the defense to shape the narrative unchallenged, potentially swaying juror perception.

11 Apr 2024Behind the Veil: The Twisted Trial of Chad Daybell00:09:12
In the latest episode of "Hidden Killers With Tony Brueski," the conversation turns to the compelling and convoluted trial of Chad Daybell, accompanied by insights from retired FBI Special Agent Robin Dreeke. The Daybell case, intertwined with bizarre religious beliefs and a string of grisly crimes, presents a unique challenge to the legal system. Dreeke delves into how Chad and Lori Daybell's extreme religious views and the subsequent cult-like behavior influenced their actions, leading to murder under the guise of spiritual mandates. The investigation's complexity is compounded by these beliefs, painting a dark picture of manipulation and malfeasance. As the trial progresses, speculation abounds regarding potential defense strategies, including the possibility of portraying Chad Daybell as a brainwashed victim of a cult leader. Dreeke hypothesizes the defense might lean on psychological experts to argue Daybell's susceptibility to Lori's influence, casting him as an emotionally stunted individual easily led astray. This strategy aims to humanize Chad, distancing him from the heinous acts and, possibly, sparing him the death penalty. The episode sketches a grim tableau of a case that blurs the lines between faith and fanaticism, love and lunacy, revealing the depths to which human behavior can sink in the name of misplaced beliefs.

  • Chad Daybell's trial and the bizarre religious beliefs influencing the case.
  • The defense's potential strategy of portraying Chad as a brainwashed cult victim.
  • Speculation on expert witnesses, including psychologists and cult experts, to support Daybell's defense.
  • The challenge of presenting Chad Daybell sympathetically to the jury.
  • The importance of congruency between Chad Daybell's testimony and his portrayed character as an easily manipulated individual.
  • The overarching goal of the defense: to avoid the death penalty for Chad Daybell by any means necessary.

11 Apr 2024Chad Daybell Murder Trial Opens With Claims of Obsession and Premonitions00:10:59
The highly anticipated trial of Chad Daybell commenced on April 10, shedding light on the grim events surrounding the deaths of his former wife Tammy Daybell and Lori Vallow's two children, Joshua "J.J." Vallow and Tylee Ryan. The proceedings, streamed live from Boise, Idaho, painted a chilling picture of alleged obsession and premonitions that prosecutors argue drove Chad's actions.

During the opening statements, Madison County Prosecuting Attorney Rob Wood set the tone by accusing Chad of an "obsession" with Lori Vallow and making repeated predictions about Tammy's untimely demise. Wood underscored the sequence of events, emphasizing the suspicious circumstances surrounding Tammy's death in their marital bed just days before Chad married Lori. Wood emphasized, "More than anything else, Chad's obsession with Lori was rooted in her adoration for him."

Prosecutors contended that Chad's motivations revolved around sex, money, and power, alleging that he sought to remove "obstacles" in his pursuit of a life with Lori, including Tammy and Lori's children. Wood asserted, "Tammy Daybell, a vivacious, happy mother, was another individual labeled as a dark spirit to be removed."

The trial revisited the grim discoveries made in June 2020 when the remains of J.J. and Tylee were found on Chad's property, buried in disturbing circumstances. J.J. was wrapped in plastic and bound by duct tape, while Tylee was dismembered and burned. The children had last been seen in September 2019, but their disappearance was not reported until months later. Wood reiterated the prosecution's stance, stating, "Two dead children buried in this defendant's backyard."

Chad's trial marks a continuation of legal proceedings that began with Lori Vallow's conviction in July 2023 for the murders of her children and Tammy. Despite the life sentence handed to Lori, Chad now faces the possibility of the death penalty if convicted on all charges, including first-degree murder, insurance fraud, and grand theft.

The case has drawn widespread attention due to its connection to a small doomsday cult, allegedly centered around Chad and Lori's beliefs. Prosecutors previously suggested that the couple's involvement in this cult led to the elimination of individuals deemed to have "dark spirits."

As the trial unfolds, the community awaits further revelations regarding the disturbing chain of events that culminated in the tragic deaths of J.J., Tylee, and Tammy, shedding light on the alleged motivations and actions of Chad Daybell.

In conclusion, the trial's opening statements set a somber tone, revealing a narrative of obsession, premonitions, and alleged pursuit of a life rooted in darkness, leaving the courtroom and observers alike gripped by the unfolding saga of the Daybell case.

17 Apr 2024Under Her Spell: The 'Lori Made Me Do It' Chad Daybell Defense00:07:35
In an episode that reads more like a dark comedy than a legal discussion, Tony Brueski and guest Eric Faddis dissect the convoluted defense strategy of Chad Daybell, entangled in a trial for the deaths intertwined with doomsday prophecies and a web of lies. This podcast segment navigates the murky waters of a defense seemingly ripped from the pages of a bad soap opera script, where Daybell's attorneys attempt to pin the blame on Lori Vallow, painting Chad as an unwitting pawn in Lori's malevolent game. The discussion humorously highlights the desperation and absurdity of trying to evoke jury sympathy by suggesting Daybell was under Lori's spell, despite the gravity of the accusations against him. The conversation explores the oddities of courtroom tactics, including the "it's not fair" defense reminiscent of playground disputes, and speculates on the effectiveness of such strategies when fighting for life over death penalty stakes.

  • Chad Daybell's defense is attempting to shift the blame to Lori Vallow, suggesting he was merely a pawn in her plans.
  • The strategy hinges on evoking jury sympathy by portraying Daybell as less culpable and under Lori's influence.
  • There's speculation about whether the absence of Alex Cox, a potential corroborating witness for Daybell who is now deceased, benefits or harms Daybell's case.
  • The defense may argue that the penalty phase of the trial should consider the fairness of sentencing, given Lori's escape from the death penalty due to a technicality.
  • The discussion touches on the peculiarities of legal defenses and the challenges of persuading a jury with arguments that might seem trivial or unrelated to the case's core issues.

17 Apr 2024Pathetic Plots and Prison Prophets: The Chad Daybell Story00:09:04
In a revealing episode of 'Hidden Killers With Tony Brueski,' the discussion with Robin Dreeke, a retired FBI Special Agent, navigates through the perplexing court trial of Chad Daybell, intertwined with the sinister shadow of Lori Vallow. The dialogue unpacks the defense's strategy to paint Daybell as a mere puppet ensnared by Vallow's manipulative cult-leader antics. With the bizarre argument akin to playground disputes—"she made me do it"—the conversation critically examines the potential impacts of Alex Cox's death on Chad's defense, suggesting that without Cox, Daybell's camp might attempt to portray him as an unfortunate survivor of Vallow's chaos. Furthermore, the podcast touches on the implications of technicalities in the legal system, pondering whether a mishap in Lori's trial could unjustly benefit Chad. Simplifying the complexity, the episode gravitates towards the families of the victims, speculating on their desired outcome and hinting at the ludicrous hope Daybell holds for a doomsday exoneration from his prison cell.

  • Chad Daybell's trial strategy involves shifting blame to Lori Vallow, portraying himself as an unsuspecting victim.
  • Speculation on how Alex Cox's death might influence Daybell's ability to corroborate his story or be painted as additional collateral damage by Vallow.
  • The defense's attempt to highlight Chad as a sympathetic character, overshadowed by Lori's alleged manipulation.
  • Consideration of legal technicalities and their impact on the fairness of applying the death penalty to Chad, given Lori's escape from it due to procedural errors.
  • The significant role of the victims' families' perspectives on the trial's outcome.
  • The bizarre yet hopeful notion harbored by Daybell and Vallow of ruling a post-apocalyptic world, indicating a delusional underpinning to their actions.

15 Apr 2024Defense Attorney Bob Motta Weighs In On Early Day's Of Chad Daybell Trial00:06:31
In the latest episode of "Hidden Killers With Tony Brueski," guest Bob Motta, a seasoned defense attorney and host of "Defense Diaries," dives into the ongoing trial of Chad Daybell. The trial has captivated audiences with its complex narrative of sex, power, and money, mirroring the themes of Lori Vallow Daybell's case but with unique evidence and accusations against Chad. Motta outlines the trial's slow start, emphasizing the procedural nuances of presenting evidence and the strategic openings by the prosecution and defense. The defense's angle, as Motta predicts, aims to portray Chad as a naive participant manipulated by Lori Vallow Daybell, painting her as the puppet master and Alex Cox as the executor of the alleged crimes. This approach raises questions about Chad Daybell's awareness and involvement in the crimes, especially given the disposal of the victims' bodies on his property and his presence in Hawaii during critical moments of the case. Motta expresses skepticism about the defense's ability to absolve Chad of guilt, anticipating the trial's focus might shift towards mitigating the sentence rather than proving innocence. The discussion illuminates the defense's uphill battle and the broader implications for understanding guilt, manipulation, and responsibility in high-profile criminal cases.

  • The trial involves complex themes of sex, power, and money.
  • The defense is anticipated to argue Chad was manipulated by Lori, with Alex Cox as the executor of the crimes.
  • Skepticism exists about Chad's alleged ignorance of the crimes, given the evidence and circumstances.
  • The defense's strategy may aim more at mitigating the sentence rather than proving innocence.
  • The conversation highlights the challenges of defending high-profile criminal cases and the nuances of legal strategy and evidence presentation.

16 Apr 2024Is It A Benefit To Chad Daybell That Alex Cox Is Dead?00:07:14
In a compelling episode of "Hidden Killers With Tony Brueski," Bob Motta, a defense attorney and podcast host, delves into the nuances of the Chad Daybell case, specifically discussing the impact of Alex Cox’s death on the trial. Motta suggests that Cox’s absence could be strategically advantageous for Daybell’s defense, as it simplifies placing blame on Cox without contradiction. The conversation also explores the hypothetical scenario of Lori Vallow taking the stand in Chad’s defense, despite the potential risks to her own appeals and the complex dynamics of their relationship. Motta opines that Lori, portrayed as the mastermind behind the tragic events, is unlikely to testify, given the detrimental implications for her legal situation. The dialogue encapsulates the intricacies of legal strategies, the manipulation of narratives in high-profile cases, and the speculative nature of defense tactics in the absence of key witnesses.

  • Alex Cox’s death potentially benefits Chad Daybell’s defense by allowing blame to be placed on Cox without his testimony.
  • Speculation on whether Lori Vallow might testify in Chad's defense, despite her being portrayed unfavorably by his legal team.
  • Motta doubts Lori's willingness or strategic benefit in testifying, given her current legal battles and the potential harm to her appeals.
  • Discussion on the dynamics between Lori, Chad, and Alex, highlighting the complexity of relationships and manipulation within the case.
  • Insights into the defense's potential strategies and the challenges of presenting a credible narrative in the absence of key witnesses.

15 Apr 2024Does Chad Daybell Stand A Chance Of Escaping Death Penalty?00:10:16
In this episode of 'Hidden Killers With Tony Brueski', retired FBI Special Agent Jennifer Coffindaffer provides an incisive commentary on the ongoing trial of Chad Daybell, who faces the death penalty— a sentence not faced by his co-conspirator Lori Vallow. Coffindaffer expresses skepticism about the necessity of the trial given the overwhelming evidence against Daybell. She highlights his attempts to deflect blame onto various influences, including religious beliefs and other individuals, which she finds unpersuasive. A particular moment of note for Coffindaffer was Daybell's reaction to autopsy photos, which she interprets as a cowardly avoidance of facing the consequences of his actions. The discussion also touches on Daybell's apparent mental and emotional immaturity, his defense team’s lack of experience with death penalty cases, and the implications of potential appeals. The episode paints a picture of a trial that seems more a formality in the face of apparent guilt, with significant implications for justice and the legal process.

Main Points from the Conversation:
  • Overwhelming Evidence: The evidence against Chad Daybell is compelling, making the trial seem almost unnecessary.
  • Ineffective Defenses: Daybell's attempts to blame religious influence, Lori Vallow, and others are unlikely to succeed.
  • Reaction to Autopsy Photos: Daybell’s aversion to the autopsy photos is seen as an act of cowardice, indicating his inability to confront his actions.
  • Mental and Emotional Maturity: There's speculation about Daybell’s mental state, suggesting he might have the emotional and intellectual capacity of a much younger person.
  • Legal Incompetence: Concerns about Daybell's defense team's experience with capital cases could foreshadow an appeal on grounds of inadequate representation.
  • Comparative Sentencing: The disparity in sentencing between Daybell and Vallow raises questions about justice and equity in the legal process.
  • Future of the Case: The trial is viewed as a precursor to an inevitable appeal, suggesting that the current proceedings are just the beginning of a prolonged legal battle.

In today's episode of 'Hidden Killers With Tony Brueski,' we delve into the complex trial of Chad Daybell with insights from Shavaun Scott, a psychotherapist and author. The discussion circles around the defense strategies for Chad, which seem notably more assertive than those in Lori Vallow's trial, highlighting a possible attempt to shift the blame to Alex Cox and depict Chad as mesmerized and manipulated by Lori. The narrative presented by Chad's defense paints him as a victim of Lori's evil scheming, overshadowed by her overwhelming influence and shared delusional religious beliefs. The episode probes the dynamics of their relationship, examining how their extreme beliefs about zombies and apocalyptic visions coalesced into a shared delusion that spurred their heinous acts.
