06 Jun 2024Admiring the Beauty of the Horse with Francisco Lisci | Episode 1801:01:56

In this conversation, Francisco and I talk about wild horses, particularly those being threatened in Canada. We also dive into the power of creativity and how our love for horses has informed our participation in the creative process.

Growing up as a whitewater kayaker, Francisco's life-long love of photography grew to a professional level while documenting his teammates during training and competitions. After suffering an unfortunate accident from dropping down a 60-foot waterfall, Francisco shifted his focus from kayaking to photography. Unwilling to give up the world of sports completely, he has built a career as a professional sports photographer, traveling around the world to work with brands like Nike, Monster Energy, Lululemon, and Gatorade.

Not just the world of sports has informed Francisco’s photography practice. He has a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design and is deeply influenced by his love of the visual arts. With his unique artistic journey coupled with a deep love for horses and western scenes, Francisco decided to go back to his early painting days to create equine art.

This new practice feeds his deep passion for the equine world while being able to continue with his photography career. You will find him often photographing the Alberta Wild horses located an hour away from his home.

Born and raised in Mexico City, you’ll find Francisco in his new home Cochrane, CA. He feels connected to the Western vibe of the city and enjoys collaborating on projects and branching out on adventures whenever possible.  He always enjoys returning to his first home, where you can spot him every now and then on the clear blue waters of Mexico’s south coast enjoying a good surfing session with friends.

09 May 2024Called to This Work with Brittany Ference | Episode 1501:18:27

In this episode, I’m joined by Brittany Ference, the Executive Director of the Great Escape Mustang Collaborative, for an insightful conversation about the challenges of working with horses—especially wild Mustangs—and the lessons we’ve learned along the way. Brittany shares her wealth of knowledge about how wild horses can transition into domestic life and the unique needs they have as they navigate that journey.

We talk about the personal challenges we’ve faced with our own horses, the valuable lessons those experiences have taught us, and the incredible resources the Great Escape Mustang Collaborative offers to support Mustang owners. Whether you're an experienced horse owner or just beginning your journey with Mustangs, Brittany’s insights on horse behavior, healing practices, and self-reflective work are not to be missed.

Asthe Executive Director of the Collaborative, Brittany is deeply committed to addressing the emotional and physical needs of Mustangs, especially through alternative healing methods like craniosacral therapy, bodywork, trauma release, and energy healing. These methods not only help horses heal, but also encourage humans to reflect on their own emotional and spiritual growth.

Living off the grid in the southern Rocky Mountains of northern New Mexico with her family, Brittany embraces a lifestyle rooted in slow living, simplicity, and deep connection to nature. Her homesteading life and wilderness adventures—such as horseback riding, fishing, and foraging—reinforce her dedication to Mustangs and remind her daily of the resilience and beauty of these wild horses.

This episode is a beautiful exploration of what it means to truly understand and support Mustangs, as well as the transformative power of alternative healing practices. If you’re passionate about wild horses or looking for new ways to connect with your own horse, this conversation is full of valuable insights.

25 Apr 2024Ambassadors for Mustangs and Catalysts for Healing with Patti Gruber | Episode 1301:04:43

In this episode, I have the honor of speaking with Patti Gruber, the founder of Operation Wild Horse, and the proud owner of Padre, a Mustang dressage champion and Breyer horse model. When I first reached out to Operation Wild Horse, I had no idea I would be connecting with someone whose work has touched so many lives—especially through the incredible bond she shares with Mustangs and the transformative healing power these horses bring to others.

Patti’s journey with Mustangs began in 2006 when she brought home her first Mustang. A year later, she adopted Padre, who went on to become a true trailblazer for the Mustang breed, proving that wild horses are capable of extraordinary feats, including excelling in dressage competitions. Padre’s accomplishments have since been immortalized as a Breyer model, and he’s been featured in two books and multiple magazines.

However, what makes Patti’s story truly special is her deep commitment to using Mustangs to heal and empower others. In 2017, she founded Operation Wild Horse, a nonprofit dedicated to pairing Mustangs with veterans to provide therapeutic healing and a sense of purpose. The program not only honors her grandfathers, both of whom served in the military, but also highlights the profound impact horses can have on human well-being.

Patti has spent nearly two decades working with Mustangs, and in this episode, she shares how they’ve transformed her life, her horsemanship, and her mission. Whether through competition, therapy, or simply the joy of sharing Mustangs with the world, Patti’s story exemplifies the healing power of these majestic animals.

If you love Mustangs, veteran support, or the inspiring stories of how animals can heal, this episode is one you don’t want to miss. Patti’s dedication to Mustangs and the legacy of Padre will leave you believing in the incredible bond between horses and humans.

22 Feb 2024Physical, Mental, and Emotional Healing Through Horses with Melissa Jarzynski | Episode 401:21:56

In this episode, we jump into a discussion of how horses heal us. Melissa Jarzynski first utilized horses to help individuals heal and grow physically, in her physical therapy practice. While doing so, she began to recognize that horses have the ability to change the way we feel internally. Take a deep dive with us in exploring what exactly it is about horses that help us to heal and learn. Melissa has been partnering with horses in physical therapy sessions since 2005. She started seeing common patterns of calm, with both her clients and the accompanying caregivers. From this observation, Melissa began to study cardiac coherence and brain wave synchronicity. MacKenzie Whitsell is the founder of Wild Ride Mustang Sanctuary, a hybrid sanctuary and training/adoption facility for formerly wild mustangs. She was previously a business consultant and software developer. She has over 30 years of experience in the equestrian world and uses predominately opt-in positive reinforcement.
