I will always, always, always believe that HSPs make the best business owners. Between our empathy, our need for flexibility, and our life experiences, we can truly be great leaders and find so much purpose in running our own businesses.

I know for me, becoming a business owner just kind of happened but I’m so grateful it did and I wouldn’t change anything.

In this episode, you’ll learn:

  • Why I think HSPs make the best business owners
  • About how I went from writing a blog to writing a book proposal
  • How empathy can be our greatest strength

27 Sep 20212. Boundaries Are How We Teach People To Treat Us00:19:56

This if the first of many podcast episodes on boundaries. As an HSP and empath, people pleasing can be our natural tendency which often leads to a lot of blurred lines and lack of boundaries. Every time we say yes to someone else and what they want, we are saying no to ourselves. Boundaries not only allow us to honor ourselves but also show others how to treat and respect us.

In this episode, you'll learn:

  • When and where you need boundaries.
  • How to enforce the boundaries you put in place.
  • Why it's worth some uncomfortable conversations.
  • Taking responsibility for your own actions.

In this episode of Sensitive & Empowered, Matt and I discuss our personal journeys with self-abandonment and how we've shifted from always being available to others to becoming discerning about who gets access to us. We discuss how you can manage the guilt for prioritizing yourself when you've always been available to others and Matt leads us through four powerful questions you can ask yourself to get to the root of why you're self-abandoning in any given situation.

14 Feb 202377. Everything You Need To Know About Relationships As An HSP (Re-air: October 2021)00:37:07

Happy Valentines Day! I thought it was the perfect time to re-share this Sensitive & Soulful Podcast episode from October 2021 talking all about relationships as an HSP.

❤️ ❤️ ❤️

HSPs make up only about 15-20% of the population which means most people you meet and have relationships with are not HSPs. This is why it's so important to learn about your trait and understand the HSP characteristics fully in order to communicate them to your partner. Our partners can't read our minds, we must be willing to have those conversations with them. In most cases, the people we have strong relationships with will be open (and eager) to learn more about you and what makes you, YOU!

But sadly, it is all too common for HSPs and empaths to find themselves wrapped up with a narcissistic person who doesn't care about their good-natured traits but instead uses your empathy, love, and kindness to their advantage.

Either way, it may be time for some tough conversations with yourself and others. Tune in to this episode to get the lowdown on relationships as an HSP and empath.

In this episode, you'll learn:

  • How to feel more understood by your partner.
  • How to set energetic boundaries in close relationships.
  • Narcissists with HSPs and Empaths.

18 Jan 202220. It's Time to Stop Second-Guessing Yourself!00:19:49

I used to second-guess myself all the time. I struggled to make my own decisions and always looked to others for guidance. I just didn’t trust myself to have the answers.

And it’s no wonder - because most HSPs are told their whole lives (either verbally or vibrationally) that they are different and weird and….wrong.

It took me a long time to finally start trusting myself and not look to others for answers. It starts small but once you get the ball rolling, life will open up to you when you stop second-guessing everything.

In this episode, you’ll learn:

• Why HSPs are prone to second-guessing.

• How to build habits that lead to self-trust.

• About the tools I recommend to stop second-guessing yourself.

22 Mar 202230. Handling Criticism as an HSP00:24:52

Our heart starts racing, our stomach drops to the floor, and we feel under attack. Even if you’re not an HSP, criticism is painful to receive and, in all honesty, it can bring out our Hyper Sensitivity and anger.

Sometimes the feedback and criticism is there to genuinely help us and sometimes it's just a mean troll on the internet. Either way our bodies tend to react in the same way and so we need a healthy way to cope with these feelings and to move through them so we can be the best that we can be.

In this episode, you'll learn:

  • Why criticism affects us so much.
  • how to discern hurtful criticism versus helpful criticism.
  • How to deal with feedback from loved ones.

28 Dec 202117. How to Stop Taking Everything so Personally00:24:43

When every weird look, snide remark, or unfriendly punctuation in a text can cause us to go into a tailspin – it’s easy to see that we may take things a little too personally.

Because we are constantly taking in more information than others, we tend to notice every mood change or every slight difference in a person’s communication which causes us to feel as if things are our fault or directed at us.

But ready for some ground breaking news?!

9 times out of 10, another person’s behavior or mood is not your fault or even your responsibility.

I know you don’t want to take things personally but it’s just the way our brains are wired. But it’s time to break free of this self-imposed prison and find joy and happiness in not taking things personally.

In this episode, you’ll learn:

• the number one secret to stop taking things personal.

• tools to use in daily life when you notice you’re taking things personally.

• about how I personally broke free of the cycle.

25 Oct 202261. How to Tap into Your Intuition as an HSP00:38:48

We've all gotten little hits of inspiration at random times or in random places. Most people tend to ignore those hits. But as HSPs we can only ignore it for so long before our hearts start to yell at us. Our intuition is naturally strong but if we've been ignoring it for too long or listening to other peoples' opinions over our own, it's probably gotten lost somewhere deep inside of us.

This episode comes to you straight from my Sensitive & Soulful Membership vault! During the time of recording, my word for the year was Trust. Learning to trust myself and my intuition was one of the best things I could have done for myself.

In this episode, you'll learn:

  • About the magic already within you
  • My five steps for tapping into your intuition
  • Why taking care of yourself is so important

16 Nov 202110. You Can't Please Everyone and That's Okay!00:29:28

If you're anything like me, you grew up feeling like you were too much, too emotional, too sensitive - so you learned to counterbalance that with... *que Spongebob putting a rainbow over his head* people pleasing.

It's not uncommon as an HSP and empath to simply go with the flow; don't make waves, don't make suggestions in case someone hates it, don't state an opposing opinion because you may make enemies, etc. etc. etc.

But at the core of people pleasing is really just us trying to control other people's perceptions of us. AKA: trying to control others. It's a harsh reality but one we must learn.

Don't get me wrong, people pleasing comes from a very good place in our hearts but it might be time to reevaluate this habit of ours.

In this episode, you'll learn:

  • Why HSPs tend to be people pleasers
  • How people pleasing is actually a selfish thing
  • Why good intentions are better than always making everyone else happy

15 Nov 202264. Experiencing Loneliness as an HSP [Sensitive & Empowered Series with Matt Landsiedel]00:40:46

Join Matt and I on this episode of the Sensitive & Empowered Series (a monthly Instagram chat)! This month we talked about loneliness. We've both been experiencing bouts of loneliness in our lives right now and we wanted to share openly and vulnerably about the cause and how we're dealing with it.

Being an HSP can be such a gift but it can also be challenging to navigate as well. Social isolation and hyper-independence are two common defense mechanisms many of us tend to use to cope with loneliness. In the episode we both unpack some of the day-to-day psychology involved and how it shows up in our lives personally.

In this episode, you'll learn:

  • How we've been experiencing loneliness in our lives
  • What we're doing to move through it and support ourselves
  • That loneliness is not something to feel guilty about it

28 Mar 202383. Are HSPs More Prone to Mental Health Struggles? My Recent Experience & How I'm Emerging From the Darkness00:39:09

Motherhood is hard. Running a business is hard. Being an HSP on top of that definitely adds a whole other dimension. I really try to always be positive about being an HSP but at the end of the day, I'm only human and things tend to wear us down much harder if we aren't careful.

HSPs tend to get stuck in overthinking and overanalyzing and needing breaks before we burn out - and that's OK! It's all about learning how to take care of ourselves and nourish ourselves or ask for help.

I recently had an experience as a mother and business owner that was new to me and I wanted to share about it. Because I always want to be real with you guys and share what I'm going through.

Get cozy and join me in this episode as I get a little vulnerable - hopefully it will help you through your struggles too.

22 Oct 2024167. Confidence & Self-Trust Comes From Empowered DISCOMFORT00:24:12

In today's episode, I discuss one of my favorite topics: empowered discomfort and choosing your discomfort. This concept is crucial for anyone, especially highly sensitive people, who want to build self-confidence and trust themselves. Through real-life examples from my coaching program, I illustrate how vulnerability and honest conversations, although uncomfortable, are essential for building self-trust and authenticity. This approach to managing discomfort is key to healing past wounds, overcoming fear of judgment, and achieving a powerful sense of self-worth.

29 Nov 202266. Why Taking a Break from Consumption is Important for Sensitive Souls00:14:35

I've had enough of over consumption - whether it's social media, the news, podcasts, or just other people. We all have our own thoughts and opinions but when we only consume and never create, we tend to tone down our own messages to fit the collective.

So, no more agreeing with everyone for the sake of agreeing with everyone. It's time to take back our power and understand how important it is to be still, quiet, and listening to our own voices.

In this episode, you'll learn:

  • About how your message gets watered down
  • Why taking a social media and podcast break is important
  • How to get in touch with your own beliefs and what's true for you

17 Dec 2024175. The Power of Quiet Confidence (Standing out, Being respected, & feeling confident as an introvert)00:19:15

In this episode, I share the power of quiet confidence and how embracing your authentic self can transform your life. As a highly sensitive person (HSP), you may feel pressure to be more extroverted or outgoing, but true confidence comes from being unapologetically yourself, whether that means being more reserved or preferring deep, meaningful conversations. This episode is a call to embrace who you truly are and carry yourself with confidence.

What you will learn in this episode:

  • How embracing your authentic self leads to true confidence
  • Why quiet confidence is just as powerful as loud, extroverted confidence
  • How to stop second-guessing yourself and fully accept your quiet nature
  • The importance of building self-worth and self-acceptance to feel grounded in who you are
  • How embracing your authenticity can positively impact your relationships and how others perceive you

In today's episode, I discuss the idea of expanding your capacity through life's challenges. These situations serve us by promoting growth and evolution, making us stronger whether dealing with personal setbacks or professional disappointments, it's important to view challenges as opportunities for development. In this episode, I showcase how facing adversity teaches valuable lessons, such as speaking up, understanding one's optimal environment, and becoming more independent. The key takeaway is to shift from a 'why me?' mindset to a 'let's go' attitude, seeing difficulties as chances for growth, fostering resilience, and returning to our authentic selves.

05 Apr 202232. Validating Your Emotions When Other People Don't "Get It"00:21:36

Let's be real. HSPs have some BIG emotions. We learned early on in our lives that our emotions made others uncomfortable and caused rifts or issues in relationships...so we started hiding them. We even started repeating what others so often told to us: "It's not a big deal. Don't freak out. Just get over it."

I'm here to tell you that you and your experiences are valid. Period. That's it.

In this episode, you'll learn:

  • Why we tend to hide and ignore our emotions.
  • How to validate your feelings and advocate for yourself.
  • How to support yourself and create self-trust.

Tell me if this sounds familiar: You feel empowered to take care of yourself and put your needs first, you set a boundary to support yourself, and then the guilt sets in. You feel bad and wonder if you were too harsh or too selfish for setting this boundary.

At this point, we have two options...either go back on our word and let others step all over our boundaries OR we remind ourselves why we set this boundary and we stay strong.

In this episode, you'll learn:

  • Why feelings of guilt tend to pop up.
  • How to move through the guilt to support yourself.
  • How to stay strong in your boundaries.

28 Jun 202244. Stop Looking to Others for Your Answers00:14:57

We live in an age where self-help books, online gurus, and endless podcasts are the norm. We also grew up with people basically telling us that we were too much and that we needed to stop being so dramatic. Combine those two things and you get an HSP who is always looking to others for the answers.

But its okay! Because I used to be there myself. With a little self-work, reflection, and integration, we can start to trust ourselves more and look within for the answers.

In this episode, you'll learn:

  • Why the next self-help book may not be the answer
  • How one of my clients has grown exponentially since she started listening to herself
  • That going slow and integrating one thing at a time is so much more powerful

05 Sep 2023106. Why Your Triggers are Opportunities for Growth (Re-air: October 2021)00:26:00

This was one of my very first episodes and also a favorite because I still talk about and believe in the importance of triggers and how they can help us grow.

_________

Triggers can show up in all sorts of ways - from an immediate emotional reaction like anger or sadness to a physical gut reaction like shaking, feeling sick, or nauseous. It can be overwhelming and happen so suddenly that we aren't aware until we're deep in the feels.

It can be easy to blame others when we're triggered but instead we should empower ourselves to find the root cause of the issue and why what that person did triggered us in the first place. Turn the focus inward and respect yourself enough to work through the problems.

In this episode, you'll learn:

  • How to know when you're being triggered
  • What triggers actually mean
  • How to find the root cause of these emotions

In today's episode, I share about my intense week dealing with a wildfire near my home and the subsequent evacuation...also dealing with husband actually being head on and in it as a volunteer firefighter! We talk about the importance of remaining grounded and resilient in chaos- because the truth is; highly sensitive people can thrive in imperfect circumstances by cultivating their own inner strength and flexibility. The fact is- ideal conditions aren't necessary for well-being and that's not realistic, either. It's time to view your challenges as opportunities for growth and empowerment, embrace discomfort, and build resilience.

02 May 202388. An Episode for Non-Highly Sensitive People to Understand HSPs!00:32:00

As a non-HSP, it can be hard to understand what HSPs go through. While it's not good or bad to be an HSP or not, there are some major differences between the two and it's important that both sides understand each other.

We can learn to support and encourage each other but it first starts with empathy. So here I am to cast some light on what it means to be a Highly Sensitive Person.

In this episode, you'll learn:

  • That being an HSP is a genetic trait (not something that is learned).
  • About some tell tale signs someone is Highly Sensitive.
  • How we can balance each other instead of making life hard for the other.

11 Jan 202219. My Best Tips for Quieting Your Inner Critic00:21:16

What happens when we let our inner critic speak too much, too often, and for too long? We start doubting ourselves, we take less risks, and we believe every bad thing that little voice says.

Here’s the thing though, you are not your inner critic. You are so much more and so much better than that voice gives you credit for.

I’ve noticed that around this time of year, my inner critic comes out especially hard. We fail on our new goals before we even start because we let that voice run the show.

The inner critic comes out when you start hearing things like: “You should've worked out harder,” “I can’t believe you ate another cookie,” “You really messed up this time! No one will forgive you.”

If you’re fed up with that voice being so loud, this episode is for you!

You’ll learn:

• How to recognize your inner critic’s voice and give it a name.

• How to separate yourself from your inner critic.

• Some useful tools when that little voice gets a little too loud.

09 Nov 20219. Feeling Misunderstood as an HSP00:28:05

"Why do I feel so out of place here?" "Why does it feel so hard to make friends?" "Why don't people respect me and my boundaries?"

As an HSP, these types of thoughts can be all too common in our everyday life. We feel we aren't understood by others and that leaves us feeling unsure of ourselves and our traits. It can be hard to come to terms with the fact that yes, we are very different from non-HSPs...but I'm here to tell you: THAT'S OKAY!

You are not meant to be like everyone else. Your gifts and talents are so special and the sooner you realize that and harness the potential inside of you, the more other people will be accepting of it!

In this episode, you'll learn:

  • How you can give yourself the confidence boost you deserve.
  • What can happen when we try to hide or diminish our sensitivity.
  • The importance of being a part of an HSP community.

26 Oct 20217. Everything You Need to Know About Relationships as an HSP00:35:38

19 Mar 2024133. Why Nervous System Regulation Isn't Solving All Your Problems00:24:55

Today's episode is all about the common struggles of highly sensitive people and why simply focusing on calming techniques and nervous system regulation may not fully address the root causes of overwhelm and overthinking. Through personal experiences and client examples, I explain the importance of understanding the deeper reasons behind our struggles and how these are often interconnected with self-worth & the need for holistic healing and deeper self-awareness to truly address the underlying issues.

23 Aug 202252. Why it's Important to Get Out of Your Comfort Zone00:15:31

When you have every excuse in the world to not go and do something that's when you know you should do it! As HSPs we tend to stay in places we know and feel comfortable in. Why wouldn't we? But some of our greatest opportunities and experiences come from places of discomfort, and pushing ourselves to do something challenging.

Think about the last time you were scared to do something new but it ended up being one of the best experiences or you ended up meeting some amazing people. That's exactly what happened to me recently which I share all about in this episode!

In this episode, you'll learn:

  • Why we tend to stay in and say no to unknown events
  • About healthy stress and destress tolerance
  • About my recent experience with getting out of my comfort zone

24 Sep 2024163. If Your Sensitivity Feels Like A Curse, *This* Is Why00:24:59

In this episode, I discuss the challenges we face as highly sensitive people (HSPs), particularly women, when we cling to the 'good girl' identity. I explore how deeply ingrained behaviors from childhood can lead to chronic stress and health issues in adulthood due to a lack of healthy boundaries. I emphasize the importance of balancing empathy and kindness with self-care, and outline the steps needed to develop a new, empowered identity. I introduce the concept of the 'authentic woman' and highlight the critical role of awareness, emotional processing, and setting boundaries in achieving a healthier, more balanced life.

15 Aug 2023103. How to Stop Taking Everything So Personally (Re-air: December 2021)00:24:43

This one's too good not to re-share! Originally published December 28th, 2021.

______

When every weird look, snide remark, or unfriendly punctuation in a text can cause us to go into a tailspin - it's easy to see that we may take things a little too personally.

Because we are constantly taking in more information than others, we tend to notice every mood change or every slight difference in a person's communication which causes us to feel as if things are our fault or direct at us.

But ready for some ground breaking news?!

9 times out of 10, another person's behavior or mood is not your fault or even your responsibility (this is just my own opinion).

I know you don't want to take things personally but it's just the way our brains are wired. But it's time to break free of this self-imposed prison and find joy and happiness in not taking things personally.

In this episode, you'll learn:

  • The number one secret to stop taking things personal.
  • Tools to use in daily life when you notice you're taking things personally.
  • About how I broke free of this cycle.

30 Nov 202113. Two Mindset Shifts to Try When You're Anxious00:18:58

We like to make life harder than it needs to be, don't we? We tend to overthink, overachieve, and over-stress. But what if it could all be easy?!

In this episode, I get a little vulnerable and share some of my current struggles and how I'm handling them. From breaking down after an interaction with a neighbor to holiday stress, it can feel like too much. But with these two simple questions, you can change your outlook on life (at least on a small scale). But what's so amazing is that these small shifts build into a life that is easy and fun.

It's all in your hands my fellow HSPs.

In this episode, you'll learn:

  • What to ask yourself when life seems hard.
  • Why it's important to move through the day with ease.
  • Giving yourself grace.

Let It Be Easy (a book by Susie Moore)

08 Feb 202224. If You're a Perfectionist or an Overachiever, This One's for You00:21:21

If you ever feel like you're always trying to be smart enough, accomplished enough, and like you have to do things perfectly in order to feel worthy – this episode is for you.

My perfectionist tendencies started from such a young age when I was in middle school and had hardly any self-confidence. I didn't like the way I looked and always felt less worthy than my friends. And so began my journey of perfectionism...spending hours getting ready for school and being in a bad mood if one hair was out of place.

This is no way to live, my friends. You are worthy and perfect just as you are.

In this episode, you’ll learn:

  • About my journey with perfectionism.
  • About how overachieving is really a self-worth problem.
  • How self-awareness is the key to changing old patterns.

If you're anything like me you may not think you're codependent. You may be tempted to skip this episode all together but I highly encourage you to take a quick listen.

You see I always thought codependency was something other people dealt with, but never me. Until I realized what being codependent really means.

And I get it - you may want to choose an ignorance is bliss kind of thing BUT once you are aware of what is holding you back, sapping your energy,  and making you resentful, you can move through it and get on with your life.

In this episode, you'll learn:

• What it means to be codependent.

• How you may be codependent without even realizing it.

• How boundaries can help.

This is such a good episode and reminder from March 2022.

__________

Our heart starts racing, our stomach drops to the floor, and we feel under attack. Even if you're not an HSP, criticism is painful to receive and in all honesty, it can bring out our Hyper Sensitivity.

Sometimes the feedback and criticism is there to genuinely help up and sometimes it's just a mean troll on the internet. Either way, our bodies tend to react in the same way and so we need healthy ways to cope with these feelings.

In this episode, you'll learn:

  • Why criticism affects up so much.
  • How to discern hurtful criticism versus helpful criticism.
  • How to deal with feedback from loved ones.

In a world where there is a rigid set of rules to life, I dare you to ignore it all and listen to yourself.

Your intuition will guide you to such beautiful places in life - it's time to lean in. After all, you are an HSP - you're made to be intuitive.

In this episode you'll learn:

  • Why HSPs can sometimes have a hard time at tapping into intuition.

25 Nov 202112. [Bonus!] How to Navigate the Holidays as an HSP00:43:19

Navigating the holidays as a Highly Sensitive Person should be an olympic sport. Between numerous parties, outings, and big family gatherings, it can feel like a recipe for overwhelm.

We know the holidays are supposed to be about love, happiness, peace, and joy but it can often feel like the most stressful part of the year. We feel guilty for letting the hustle and bustle get to us, we could be dealing with the loss of a loved one, or live in a new place without friends and family around. Holidays can bring up all sorts of things that we should not feel guilty about.

In this super exclusive sneak peek into The Highly Sensitive and Soulful Membership, you get some of my top tips for handling holiday stress, dealing with grief, and ways to cope with overstimulation. You're getting an inside look at the Members Only audio for November which comes with so many other amazing goodies once you join.
