23 Jun 2020Episode 180: Lockdown Special: Helen's news, homeschooling, and hanging on in there00:50:34

JUST THE TWO OF US! For only the fourth time in Scummy Mummies history, there is no guest for this episode - it’s just us dickheads. We’re meeting up in our cosy bubble to share some personal news, and to talk about how we’ve found lockdown. We share our coping strategies, and what we do on the days we’re really not coping very well at all, actually. Find out how we’re getting on with homeschooling, hear about the newest member of Helen’s family, and learn what Ellie's been doing beside her parents' bins.

The podcast Helen recommends is the excellent Divorce Club. The terms Ellie can't remember that Brené Brown uses are over- and under-functioning, and you can hear her explain them in a much more articulate way on the Unlocking Us podcast

There's some chat about Philippa's recent Radio 4 show, and why children telling lies is something to be celebrated. In this episode, he and his wife Sarah Lea discuss the issues around trying to parent while coming to terms with the diagnosis. Honestly, it's more fun than it sounds.

16 Dec 2014Episode 36: Sweary Christmas with Nurse Jessie and Steve Hill00:37:46

Merry Christmas! It's the Scummy Mummies Podcast, with bells on (LITERALLY, thanks to amazing technical wizard Rob Sedgebeer, who made the theme tune all festive for us. Thanks Rob!)

This episode was recorded two days before Ellie went into early labour, which is why she still talks about being pregnant in it! Her little boy, Joe, is doing great. Expect a new baby special next year.

We're joined by podcast favourites Nurse Jessie and Steve Hill, the latter being having been dragged away from a Christmas lunch. As such there's even more swearing in this episode and we couldn't be bothered to bleep it, so this isn't one to listen to with the kids around...

We talk Christmas presents, ham, round robins and farting. Plus, Steve tells us his Joe Mangle story, and Helen has an interesting suggestion for what to do with a family tub of yoghurt. We also test mince pies and play a festive game.

We're on Twitter - @scummymummies - and on the Facebook. Do email your confessions to scummymummiespodcast@gmail.com, and visit scummymummies.com to find previous episodes.

Thank you so much for listening to the podcast. It's been a fantastic year and we've had a blast, and we're so grateful to everyone who's downloaded, shared it with their friends, left us nice iTunes reviews and sent us lovely emails. And indeed scummy ones. Podcast service will resume as normal in January and we're planning on more stage shows later in the year.

Have a wonderful scummy Christmas!

13 Apr 2021201: The Return of Hurrah for Gin, aka Katie Kirby!00:34:54

She's back! Everyone's favourite purveyor of filthy stick figure cartoons is here to talk about playdate shame, managing teens, and what is better: dogs or children?

Meanwhile, we get an update on Helen's love life - let's talk about socks, baby. Honestly, there's no point trying to summarise it here, you're just going to have to listen in...

And of course we discuss Katie's brilliant new book, The Extremely Embarrassing Life of Lottie Books. It's out now and it's a fantastic read for 9-12 year-olds, or indeed 40-plus year-olds like us who just want something funny to read in the bath.

SAFETY NOTICE: This podcast was recorded remotely, which is why it sounds a bit different - sorry about that. We're doing our best, and we'll be back to sitting on Ellie's sofa with our guests as soon as it's safe to do so.

We talk about godparents - what makes a good one, what should their role be and what should they be called if you're not religious? Then we round things off with a special edition of Scummy Mummy Confessions.

Stuart's podcast is available for free via iTunes, Soundcloud or ComediansComedian.com. There are loads of fab episodes but our favourite is the Sarah Millican one and it's a great place to start.

This episode features writer, rambler, TV legend and national treasure Clare Balding! We cover all sorts of topics, from nearly messing up Prince Philip's funeral and mentally fat-shaming labradors to feeding horses with your mouth.

Clare tells us all about her brilliant new book, Fall Off, Get Back On, Keep Going, which is out now. We discuss what being kind really means, why she doesn't like selfies, and why she thinks you have to fail 100 times to be good at anything. We ask big questions like how to give kids honest feedback, and help them cope with the pressure to achieve perfection. Plus, Ellie encourages Clare Balding to take drugs, and Helen tells a fart story.

Yes, it's the Christmas episode! As usual it's an absolute shambles, but tonight, the part of Steve Hill will be played by hilarious comedian Sam Pamphilon! Also the lovely Nurse Jessie is back.

It's A Tale of Two Lindas as we enjoy a twist on our regular festive traditions. We catch up on Jessie's job situation, how our divorces are going, and the results of our STD tests.

As he's worked with both the Scummy Mummies and AntandDec this year, we ask Sam who is funnier. We share our highlights of 2020, including the time a team of firemen drilled right through Helen's ring.

This year's Ham Review almost ends in fisticuffs as we have a row about gammon, while Jessie and Sam bring some extra gourmet treats to the party. Do listen right to the end for some Scummy Mummy Confessions and what might be the funniest, filthiest outtake ever.

Here's the website for Olivia the organiser - heyworthgordon.com. Thank you Melissa @fowlmouthsfood for inspiring Ellie to go off piste with her ham recipe, even though she'll never do that again. And here's the mental health support service Sam mentions - industryminds.co.uk.

SAFETY NOTICE: This podcast was recorded before the Tier 4 nonsense with social distancing in accordance with the rules, no worries lads.

14 Sep 2021212: Jarred Christmas on budgies, beatboxing, Hugh Jackman and hating golf00:58:45

How do budgies have it off? Is it OK to fancy your father in-law? And what one thing should you always do when pooing at someone else's house? Answering all these questions is the hilarious comedian Jarred Christmas!

Yes, that is his real name, and if you think that's funny wait till you hear what the rest of his family is called. He tells us about growing up on a military base, being buddies with Hugh Jackman, and embarrassing himself in front of Tom Cruise.

We discuss why Jarred is disappointed in his kids for not swearing, and his hatred of golf. Plus: are cats c***s?

NB: Sorry about the budgie noises, especially at the beginning - they do settle down a bit, honest.

25 Nov 2021217: Food, flying and false teeth with Daniel Varani01:04:21

Is booze really stronger when you're on a flight? What did Diana Ross allegedly try to smuggle on Concorde? And is it ever OK to put cheddar in a spaghetti carbonara? Answering all these questions is one of our favourite people - it's Daniel Varani!

He tells us all about his 15 years working as an air steward, from the weird things passengers leave on their food trays to dealing with people trying to join the mile-high club. Then we chat about Daniel's experience of growing up in London with Italian parents, and how food helped keep him connected to his mum in lockdown. He reveals his authentic bolognese recipe, and blows our minds by sharing the proper way to put parmesan on pasta. We finish off with some Scummy Mummy Confessions, including one from our very own Godfather.

07 Dec 2021Christmas Special: A Tale of Two Bumholes00:46:26

Ho ho ho! The gang's all here for this year's festive episode as we are joined by Nurse Jessie, Sam Pamphilon and Steve Hill! Is Sam divorced yet? Has Nurse Jessie got a new job? Why are Ellie and James Bond responsible for Steve getting corona? And is it true that we all have two sphincters? Tune in to find out!

We cover a host of highbrow topics from how men go to the toilet to when it's OK to fart in front of a new lover. Ham Review almost ends in a fistfight, and Sam tells a lovely Christmassy story about a Coke Zero bottle full of piss. Finally, as a special treat, The Accent Game returns.

NB: Unfortunately there were some technical issues with this recording - some gremlins got in and made parts of the podcast sound all roboty. So we had to delete some bits, such as Sam's chat about what he's been up to (a new baby and a new telly show!), Jessie's gift swap (we got her some feminine hygiene wash!), and the boys' turn at the Accent Game (probably for the best.) But there's arguably more than enough to listen to here anyway...

Thank you so much to Laylo Wines for fuelling this podcast with their delicious box wines. For £5 off, go to drinklaylo.com and enter the code SCUMMY at checkout.

Look out for Sam on CITV very soon in the brand new show Ted's Top Ten. And congratulations to him and Dorothea on the birth of their son!

13 Apr 2022#AD BONUS EPISODE: Money Special - A Grand Day Out 00:33:06

What would happen if you put your kids in TOTAL charge of the family budget for a whole day? What would they learn? What would you learn? Will the entire budget be blown on LEGO?

@starlingbank set us this very challenge in this week’s special bonus episode. We gave our lads a budget for a family day out, and a Starling Kite card so they could spend and keep track of the money independently. Tune in to find out whether they wasted it all on V-bucks and sweets, and whose son spent the most on their Mother's Day present.

True story: we've been with Starling for years, and we're big fans of their work. It's super easy to apply for an account with them and their app is so simple to use. With Starling Kite, kids get a snazzy contactless debit card and their own version of the app, and you’re able to keep an eye on things and set limits all from your own Starling account. It’s a great way to get kids thinking about money for only £2 a month. We had a right laugh testing it out with our boys, so why not give the #StarlingKidsTakeover challenge a go yourself?

You can sign up for a Kite Card here https://www.starlingbank.com/current-account/kite-debit-card-for-kids/?utm_source=acast&utm_medium=podcast&utm_campaign=sm

And check out their worksheet here https://www.starlingbank.com/docs/KidsTakeover.pdf
