28 Nov 2017 | Trial of MASKS: The Next Generation – issue 0 – Origin Stories | 00:27:15
http://therpgacademy.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/Trial-of-Masks-Issue-0-Primer-Character-Generation.mp3
Hello and welcome to the Trial of MASKS: The Next Generation. Masks is a powered by the Apocalypse game from Brendan Conway @ Magpie games. It's designed to tell angsty teenage super hero stories. Think of it as Young Justice the RPG and you're not wrong.
(side note, if you do like Young Justice, and you really should - please go check out Whelmed, The Young Justice Files Podcast. It's really good!
In this episode, Brendan Conway walks the players through character creation. Like most PbtA games, we start with playbooks and each have questions we answer to flesh our particular character out.
If you'd like to skip episode 0 and jump straight to the action you should be able to do so without any confusion. This episode is great if you want that backstory or are more interested in the game itself as Brendan does cover a lot of ground in it.
Our players for this game:
Michael (@therpgacademy) - As Marisol aka: Toro (The Bull Playbook)
Caleb (@TheCalebG) as Rex (the Transformed Playbook)
Dakota (@Punchvestigate) as Hornet (The Protege' Playbook)
Taylor (@Leviathanfiles) as Sure Shot (The Beacon Playbook)
Enjoy!

It is full of adult content and frequently delves into potentially offensive topics. There is none of that content in this interview, but it does occur in the following games. Each of these episodes is preceded by a content warning. If this type of game is not for you, please consider yourself warned.
However, Rob is an excellent story teller and GM and has created a deep, intriguing world in his podcast. He is supported by fantastic players who deliver consistently amazing performances. I strongly recommend both the podcast and the game.
Enjoy!

http://therpgacademy.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/Trial-of-EndlessRealms-episode-1.mp3
Hello and welcome to the Trial of Endless Realms, the new RPG by Lunar Games.
Endless Realms is the first project from the design team at Lunar Games and uses their own rule system that's a d10/comparative system. It's very streamlined system, easy to learn but filled with options for those that want to explore it's depth. But for me personally, the icing on the cake is the setting/lore they've created. With some amazing art talent and a custom world filled with unique and thought out species the initial setting for Endless Realms is truly filled with endless possibilities. Please check out their Kickstarter when it goes live on April 24th and listen to our Trial of Endless Realms that will be releasing over the next couple weeks.
For this Trial our players are:
Michael ( @TheRpgAcademy ) playing a Silean elemental caster named Sannas
Michael Waldschlager III ( @LoserMLW ) playing a Yakshi warden named Tiny Willow
Talyor LaBresh ( @Leviathan Files ) playing a Al'Miren Dandy named He'Talm II
Tanner Clausen ( @TantaClaus ) playing a Kalamir Barbarian named Taug Shabek
Comments and Feedback are always welcome.

http://therpgacademy.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/Trial-of-Firefly-Episode-1.mp3
Hello and welcome to the Trial of Firefly the RPG.
It should come as no surprise that I am a huge fan of the Firefly TV show. I currently rank Out of Gas as my favorite episode of television - period. So when given the chance to play the game as a Trial with one of the designers (PK Sullivan) I leapt at the chance . . . but then got a bit nervous. It's one thing to role play a fictional character I made up, but another to step into the shoes of aa much beloved character, but that's just what we did.
For this Trial our players are:
Michael ( @TheRpgAcademy ) playing Serenity's Engineer Kaylee Frye
Chris Burlew ( @Burlew_Chris) as first mate Zoe Washburn
Kenall Jung ( @Kenderama ) as Captain Tight pants, himself, Malcom Reynolds.
and our GM for this session is PK Sullivan

19 Sep 2013 | Trial of Savage Worlds: Episode 1 – I Give Him Candy | 01:02:00
Hello All,
Here is the first Episode of our Savage Worlds game system Play Test. We played in a Generic Fantasy game similar to D&D settings. I swear, the more I play Savage Worlds, the more I like it. Right now i'm really getting into FATE, 13th Age and Numenera and each excites me, but when it's all said and done I may go back to Savage Worlds.
Anyway,
Here is our first episode. Still editing, but i'm expecting to get 3 total episodes. It was a one-shot saturday game GM'd by James and included Brad, Travis, Nick and I as players. Slight hiss in the background but overall the sound quality is pretty good (if a bit uneven at times).
As always, thanks for listening and comments/feedback are welcome
Thanks for listening. We hope you enjoy.

In this Episode we continue the adventures of Noverie and SC37 as they make their way toward GreenStand to assault the mob of Goblins massing there. Something seems off and the Pc's are rightfully suspicious. Are they heading into a trap or simply being moved out of the way?

16 Nov 2013 | Trial of FAE Episode 1 – Paper, Rock, Wizard! | 01:05:55
https://therpgacademy.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/FAEep1.mp3
Hello and welcome to the Trials. This is where we test out new game systems, so you don't have to. I am Michael and this is the Trial of FAE. Episode 1 - Paper, Rock, Wizard!
This Play test is a bit different than the other ones so far, in that this one wasn't really planed. if you've been listening to our Dungeon Talk Podcasts you would know that I've become enamored with FATE and FAE and want to do a full play test game (or two) with the system. So last week when our regular game got cancelled with very little notice because 3 players couldn't make it, I decided to run a FAE game with the two that could. So Niko, Travis and I ran a short session of FAE using a hacked Approach and Abilities method (A&A - by @Rzrstrm). I had recently downloaded a free 4e module from DrivethruRPG called Kyber's Harvest and after a brief review of that module used it as a framework to run the game.
In this 1st of 2 episode game we meet our heroes as they make their way to Blackroot a small village in the Shadow Marches looking for a friend named Doria.
Thanks for listening. We hope you enjoy.
Comments and Feedback are always welcome.

05 May 2014 | The Trials: Star Wars EotE – Episode 1 : The Opening Crawl | 01:44:34
Hello and welcome to The Trials. This is where we test out new game systems so you don't have to. I am Michael and this is the Trial of Star Wars: Edge of the Empire The Campaigns: Star Wars Edge of the Empire episode 1 - The Opening Crawl
This is the first of what I think will be 6 episodes of our first two play test-drive sessions. We had a volunteer DM (Brad Plogsted @BradPlogsted ) that I met through a local meet up site. He agreed to run a test game for us to try out the system. For that reason these first few episodes will be edited a bit differently that my normal ones. Since it's a play test I leave in a lot of the stuff I would normally could cut (like us looking up rules, or asking rules questions). We liked the system and the game so much we are now playing an on-going campaign but after the first 2 sessions, we switched to characters we made ourselves (but we kept going on the same story)
In this first episode Travis, Nick and I are the players.
From the beginning to minute 36 or so (not counting my 5 minute intro - I guess to minute 41) is Brad going over the rules.
From that point to minute 50 (55) is us coming up with our PC backgrounds, motivations and obligations.
from there on is actual game play.
Thanks for listening. We hope you enjoy.
Comments and Feedback are always welcome.

Hello and welcome to The Trials, the Actual Play System-Test Podcasts from The RPG Academy. I am Michael and this is The Trials: Star Wars Edge of the Empire Episode 2: Sand People Shenanigans
This is the second of 4 system Play-test episodes of Star Wars: Edge of the Empire. We begin this episode with the introduction of the Destiny Point mechanic. We then continue the story of Cadlore, Graybow and CH-1 as they make plans to meet our contact the desert and buy a Krayt Dragon and eggs.
After the AP sessions we have a brief discussion about the first session and discuss some things we liked and issues we had.
Thanks for listening. We hope you enjoy.

30 Jun 2014 | The Trials: Star Wars EotE – Ep 3 : What a Shot | 01:05:39
Hello and welcome to The Trials, the Game system test drives from The Rpg Academy. This is where we try out new games, so you don't have to. I am Michael, and this is the Trial of Star Wars: Edge of the Empire, episode 3: what a shot.
We pick up this episode with my character Cad and a new character Lak-she (played by Brad K. who couldn't make it to the first session) waiting at Greedo's warehouse. We had successfully gotten the Krayte Dragon and eggs from the Calco Hiss AND got the cred-stick back as well.
As always, thanks for listening. We hope you enjoy.

28 Jul 2014 | The Trials: Star Wars EotE – Ep 5 : Space Febreze | 00:59:42
Hello and welcome to The Trials, the Game system test drives from The Rpg Academy. This is where we try out new games, so you don't have to. I am Michael, and this is the Trial of Star Wars: Edge of the Empire, episode 5: Space Febreze
In our last episode, Lak-She and Cadlore had just managed to secure the Krayt Fang spaceship and were trying to get the heck outta dodge but we did not avoid any Imperial entanglements and as we are about to take off were being attacked by Tie Fighters.
This is our last Trial of Star Wars: Edge of the Empire. We liked the game and system so much we decided to continue playing it as a regular campaign. We made our own characters but continued this story. Those episodes will be released as a regular "Campaign" Series called Unlikely Heroes
As always, thanks for listening. We hope you enjoy.

08 Jun 2015 | The Trial of Metahumans Rising pt 1 | 00:53:47
https://therpgacademy.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/Metahumans-Rising-ep-1.mp3
Hello and welcome to The Trials. Our new system play test Actual Play podcasts from The Rpg Academy. These games are from one-shots of us playing a new system and giving it a trial run. This is the Trial of Metahumans Rising from HouseDok Productions.
Super-science, magic, and Metahumans come together to create a rich comic book world uniquely its own and maintaining the hallmarks of the genre. Superheroes protect the world from mad mutants, evil organizations bent on world domination, corrupt government groups that seek to control Metahumans, or have them neutralized and deal with intergalactic conquerors seeking to harvest the Earth for their own reasons.
The last decade has changed the world forever. Beginning with the Ar’Dysis invasion and the Lensing Conflict, the Earth has survived threats not seen before. In the wake of these events, the world is left with a need for new heroes; beacons of hope willing to take up the fight against the forces of evil and corruption.
Using the Open Action System, Players are able to create virtually any hero they can imagine. While rules for running individual heroes or creating their own world class superteam exist, the Open Action System is designed for fast creative play that rewards characters for their backgrounds, talents, and creativity.
Take on super powered street gangs. Go toe to toe with the terrifying forces of Chimera, who use stolen science and an army of mutating Drifters to fuel their criminal empire. Seek out lost cities or go to the stars to face the intergalactic empire of the Zo. The world needs heroes. Are you ready to rise?
In this first episode we are introduced to the game and briefly cover some of the mechanics by the creator David Silva. Michael (@TheRpgAcademy) takes on the role of Bulwark - the living volcano, Matt (@MattParody) takes on the role of Lady Night and the Crunch Master himself, Caleb (@TheCalebG) takes on the role of Crossfire
Burning the Midnight Oil, part 1
We hope you enjoy the game and will head over to the Kickstarter Page and see if this is a game you'd like to support.

14 Oct 2015 | The Trial of Wushu ep 3 | 00:58:22
https://therpgacademy.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/TrialofWushuep3.mp3
Hello and welcome to The Trials. Our new system play test Actual Play podcasts from The Rpg Academy. These games are from one-shots of us playing a new system and giving it a trial run. This is the Trial of WUSHU by Danile Bayn. Wushu is an action movie inspired RPG with loose mechanics designed to inspire scenes out of any Van Damme or Stallone movie.
Our GM for this Trial is Andrew 'That One GM' @ThatOneGm who did an amazing job. I can easily say this is one of my favorite series of show's we've ever done!
This episodes has us finding our way to Bacon Stripz the Tea and Teat house where the Space Time Ghost Pirate Ninja's have holed-up.
For players -
I am playing Van Darn a TimeCop not unlike, but not copyright infringement of Van Damme (@theRpgAcademy)
Caleb is playing Larry Smeshen a Private Eye Wizard from Chicago (@TheCalebG)
Matthew is playing Red VI a dinosaur who wears a genetically modified sentient Trench coat ( @MattParody )
And making his triumphant return to the show is Scott playing a swarm of sentient squirrels that make up the form of an alternate history Annie Oakley. (@Pachetra)
Comments and Feedback are always welcome.
Thanks!!
~Michael
