Daring to be different, Stephen and I decided to embrace an unconventional life. We set up home in a tiny town we love and became entrepreneurs, marking our commitment to a life less ordinary. These unique choices, from launching Rainmakers and managing a community to being accountable for other people's livelihoods, have greatly influenced our journey. We've also embraced other unconventional decisions concerning parenting and our overall health and wellbeing. Choosing against the norm can bring friction, especially when those around you struggle to understand your decisions. Yet, I am content with this less-traveled path we've chosen. It might seem unusual to many, but it feels perfectly right for us. A favorite author's recent book, "10X is Easier Than 2X," underlines how taking a 10X approach can revolutionize your perspective, even if it seems unconventional. It speaks of the significant economic divide not between different families, but within the same family - a thought that has inspired us to think about the widening gap between our journey and the conventional "normal." Entrepreneurship can feel lonely, and finding like-minded companions to journey alongside is essential. Masterminds have been pivotal for us, linking us with individuals who resonate with our lifestyle and choices. It's vital to remember that not all friendships serve every life aspect. For example, we have different friend groups for discussing parenting and business matters, highlighting the importance of different community pockets in our lives. As your entrepreneurial journey progresses, some relationships may not serve your evolving identity. It can be difficult, but sometimes it's necessary to step away from such relationships to continue growing. Embrace the unique, be the "odd one out," and find joy in your personal and professional journey!

Hey there Rainmaker fam! Today, I've got a juicy story to share, all about the rollercoaster that was my journey "From Fast Food to Inc 5000". So, buckle up, it's gonna be a ride! Picture this: I'm 16, wearing this white outfit, topped with a red hat and apron, clocking into one of my first high school jobs. It was lunchtime, and I was the only person at the register. Trust me, it was intense. I genuinely loved interacting with people and flashing a big smile. But, just as I started to think it was smooth sailing, BOOM! Unexpected lunch rush. Lines out the door, and, oh boy, it was chaotic. Doing my best, smiling, repeating orders – trying to make sure everyone was satisfied. Then, this man comes along. His frustration was obvious, even before he got to me. And then, out of nowhere, he tells me: "You will never get anywhere in life." Ouch, right? Here I am, just a teenager, and this guy, with his son beside him, lays that on me. Honestly, I was so close to just bursting into tears. Now, the good news is that it didn’t end there. Right after him, this angel of a woman steps up. She reads my name tag and says, "Chelsey, you are doing an amazing job." Those words. They meant everything. That tiny moment became a turning point in my life. It reminded me of the power words have, and how they can either build someone up or tear them down. Flash forward, and I’m proud to share that I went from being a fast-food worker to being recognized on the Inc 5000 list of fastest-growing companies in America. It wasn’t easy – oh boy, there were challenges. Late nights, big bets on business decisions, products that didn't go as planned, but we pushed through. Stephen and I believed in ourselves, even when others didn’t. Now, what I want you to take away from this is simple. Always be the kind voice in a room, and surround yourself with those who lift you up. Because success isn’t about luck, it's about making that choice, and persevering. Whether it’s in business, relationships, or personal goals, always remember: you’re doing an amazing job. Today’s topic has been on my heart for a few weeks, and I knew that now was the time to share it. As the new year is underway, I wanted to share my thoughts on 2023 and the importance of rest and reflection. First things first, I want to say how excited I am for 2023. If you’re reading, listening, or watching this episode, Stephen and I KNOW that this is your breakthrough year. We feel in our hearts that this year is when everything starts to change in the best way for our Rainmaker Family community! However, for all of us to step into the fullness of what the year has to offer, we first need to acknowledge that rest and reflection are crucial. If you had asked me my thoughts on rest at the beginning of 2022, my answer would have been different to how I would answer today. Last year I was pregnant and faced setbacks, which forced me to rest even when I didn't want to. I took the season as a blessing and I emphasized the importance of self-care. I learned that resting is actually the quickest way to see your goals manifest. “At the end of year I love giving myself space to step back. Look how much growth the year has brought me. Focus on the good. 2022 our Moto was double the impact with half the hustle. Being pregnant with Ollie boy, having him early and then at 3 weeks old a traumatic hospital stay really forced me to rest. I didn’t show up on social media much. I only did the most essential tasks that produced the biggest ROI. I did a lot of uncomfortable resting even when I didn’t want to. So, 2023…I’m excited for what’s to come. BUT! That clarity wouldn’t have come unless I forced myself to rest. Rest is a weapon. Rest is the key. Sometimes the biggest strategy moving you towards growth is to rest. This is your reminder to ease into 2023 if that’s what YOU need. In 2022, I didn’t want to rest. But I chose to even when it was uncomfortable and because I leaned in, I was able to grow and find clarity.

We were genuinely moved hearing about Austin's journey. Here’s a guy, in his prime, running marathons, yet facing severe anxiety attacks due to business pressures. He even had to dial 911 twice! It made us realize the true weight many entrepreneurs carry, often silently. But here’s the twist - Austin found his saving grace in something as simple yet profound as systems. It isn't about adding complexity, but about finding simplicity in daily tasks through things like checklists. A point Austin stressed on, which we think is worth its weight in gold, is that before adding anything new to your to-do list, you need to check what you should stop doing. As entrepreneurs, we're often running on overdrive, doing a ton but oftentimes achieving very little. By focusing on what's essential and streamlining your processes, you can free up so much mental and physical space. Now, the burning question: What's the "2 Week Vacation Test?" Imagine jetting off for two weeks with no emails, no calls, and zero business contact. If your business runs, grows, and thrives in your absence, congrats! You've built a solid system. We met them through a mutual mastermind and were excited to pick their brains on marriage, parenting, and entrepreneurship. Joe and Amanda have been married for 26 years and have four boys, and they shared with us their journey from working traditional jobs to becoming successful entrepreneurs. After boy number two arrived, they felt a strong desire for Amanda to stay home with their boys. They took a leap of faith, cut their income in half, and Joe started his own business in internet marketing and digital publishing. Within two years, they were both working from home full-time, and their business took off. As parents of boys ourselves, we were eager to hear their insights on raising sons while running a business. They reminded us to enjoy the crazy moments and flexibility that come with being your own boss. They also emphasized the importance of instilling values and convictions in their boys, and that everything you do before the age of four makes a big difference. Even if you don’t have kids or sons of your own, their sage advice is something we can all learn from as high achievers and people who want more out of their life and business! One of the key takeaways from our conversation is the importance of intentionality. Whether it's planning vacations, celebrating milestones, or budgeting, being intentional in your actions can make a big difference in your family life and business. They also highlight the importance of empowering children from a young age to manage and steward their own resources, teaching them the value of money and how to make it work for them. We also learned about the concept of birth order and how it can impact personality traits. Overall, we had a great time talking with Joe and Amanda and feel inspired by their journey and wisdom. Hey there, Rainmakers! Today, we want to share with you our step-by-step framework for hiring rock stars. Whether you're looking for a nanny, an office assistant, a tech automation specialist, or someone in your business, this process can be applied to help you find the best candidates. So, let's dive into our hiring funnel. Picture a funnel in your mind—wide at the top and gradually narrowing down until only the best candidates remain. That's how you should approach the hiring process. It's all about filtering out those who aren't a good fit and finding the cream of the crop. Step number one is to see the hiring process as a funnel with multiple steps. For example, if you're searching for a handyman on Yelp, you can start by calling ten different candidates. Narrow it down by seeing who responds to your inquiry promptly. You might end up with just four candidates, and from there, you can ask some questions to further filter them down. Step number two is to create the widest opening for the funnel by posting a compelling job description on various platforms like care.com, Indeed, or social media. Include relevant details about the job and tasks involved to attract suitable candidates. Step number three is all about asking the right questions in the application process. Add some qualifier questions to help weed out less serious applicants. For example, include a unique keyword or instruction in the job description that applicants must include in their response to show they paid attention. Step number four is an optional step but highly effective—use a personality test like the DISC test to gain insight into candidates' behaviors and motivations. This will help you tailor your communication and management style to better suit them. Step number five is to implement a 90-day test period after hiring a candidate. This gives both you and the new hire the opportunity to assess whether the job is a good fit for both parties. If everything goes well, you can transition the candidate to full-time employment. Bonus tip: Consider using a Four R Document—Role, Results, Requirements, and Rate—to clearly communicate all aspects of the job to the candidate. This document ensures that everyone is on the same page from the start and helps to evaluate performance later on. This guy's such a big deal - Forbes called him a top thought leader on Twitter, and he's even been named 40 Under 40 by Business Journal. He's grown some seriously successful businesses, like Webconnex, a Sacramento-based tech company that processes billions and reaches millions each month. But more importantly, he's a dad to two awesome kids who are set to change the world! In this episode, we dived into his latest book, "Raising Entrepreneurs". It's chock-full of tips and advice for parents who want to raise world changers too! Our conversation was just so fun and enlightening! Eric shared some hilarious stories from his journey, like how he convinced his wife (who comes from a family of doctors and lawyers) that he could beat the odds of nine out of 10 businesses failing. He talked about his success with Webconnex, and how he's learned that successful entrepreneurs share unique upbringings fostered by their parents. Basically, the kind of upbringing where parents aren't afraid of their kids' dreams and fully support them in all their aspirations, no matter how unconventional they might seem. We even talked about how important it is to instill a secure identity in our kids. To let them know that their value isn't tied to what they do, so that if they fail (and let's be real, failure is part of the process), they'll understand that it doesn't mean they're failures. Basically, our chat with Eric was all about how important it is to foster an entrepreneurial spirit in our kids. To teach them to be resilient, to overcome obstacles, and to move things forward. And hey, even if your kid doesn't want to start a business, there's so much value in this mindset. Even if they end up being an entrepreneurial person within another company, or what we call an 'intrapreneur', the skills and mindset they learn are invaluable.
