I would go to the park and climb trees," she said. Her parents encouraged her to do everything every other child did. "They didn't stop me from doing anything," she says. One of the most important areas of the game for any aspiring player or coach is how we involve and engage with parents. We were delighted to learn traditional attitudes toward parental involvement are changing and Skye is honest enough to say there is nothing even she can do for "the crazy soccer parent" in denial of their own behaviors. Listen, learn and relish in a discussion that will enlighten and engage, while educating and uplifting the coach / parent relationship. A great listen for all us parents out there and for coaches. Skye isn't just an advocate for better parental involvement in the youth game, she has done it all as a player and a coach and spending an hour with her will be the best thing you do for yourself this week. | |||
