#47. Libby Wildman: On the Power of Connections, Our Stories, and Our Liminal Escapes
00:53:48
I loved my conversation with Libby Wildman, and I hope you do also. One of the greatest things about Libby is that at her core, and as we'll discuss today, Libby loves to help people and is a natural connector. I discovered that myself when we instantly connected and she was so generous as to have me highlighted as a superwoman entrepreneur on her platform A brilliant leader as well, Libby gives us so many wonderful takeaways that we can incorporate into our daily lives. Libby is the head of wealth advisory at Davis Rea, she is the creator of Liminal Escapes, and the founder of The Collective. In the financial world, Libby's mission is to help people achieve their definition of financial freedom faster. As the only woman in financial boardrooms for years, she never backed down from a challenge, but also wanted to give other women a voice and a place to do business on their own terms, so she founded The Collective to do just that.
If that wasn't enough, Libby wanted a further challenge and a further way of bringing people together who have a desire to explore themselves deeper. She designed Liminal Escapes as a retreat, held in majestic locations, where people will connect and create memories they'll share for years to come. Her curated retreats are perfect for people who crave community, adventure and self-discovery.
If what you are doing is not a "hell yes!" then, why are you doing it?
If not now, when? I took the risk because the fear of not taking the risk overcame the fear of taking the risk
We can't do it alone - we need that "friend without a hook" that is going to listen to you and encourage to do whatever is inside of you.
If you are living in this place of fear about money, it can affect all other aspects of your life. Abundance is about that totality of your life, but if you have this deep seeded fear that you are going to be broke, it's hard to get to those other areas of your life.

#48. Kavita Ahuja: On Loving Yourself First
00:08:02
On this Valentine’s Day, enjoy this mini podcast episode where Kavita shares her thoughts on the importance of Love, and Loving Yourself First. She discusses Why she created Power Purpose Play, and why she believes you have the potential to be who you want to be, and do what you want to do. In the process, we can make the world so much more positive.
Do you love yourself? Why or why not? Celebrate all the good things about you, and love yourself. “Love yourself first my friends, and you will see how much easier loving others becomes.”
We know how you may be feeling. You may be unfulfilled, frustrated with your career, your health, your relationships. You may also be stuck, because you feel you are not capable of doing what your heart tells you. You may not have the confidence to take the next steps. We get it, because we’ve been there.
But we do have a choice. We can all go through life being “fine” - but is that what you want to be? Just “fine”? How about “the best you can be?” I didn’t want to look back at my life when I’m 80 years old and have regrets that I didn’t follow that little voice inside of me and take the risks. I don’t want that for you either.
It’s hard, and transitions in life can be daunting. But everything worthwhile is hard at first. Rediscovering yourself is not an overnight thing either. But if you want to take the first step towards rediscovering yourself, so you CAN be the best version of yourself you can be, take action.
To help you take the first step and then the next, join our group learning program called “It’s My Time Now”. Beginning on March 22nd, join a small group of women who are saying with confidence, It’s My Time Now, to figure out who I really am, what I want, and how to get there.
Here are details of the program https://learn.powerpurposeplay.ca/ Contact Kavita for more information at kavita@powerpurposeplay.ca

#49. Lori Saitz: On Going From Fine to Fabulous! One Year Anniversary Episode!
00:41:11
Enjoy this, our one year anniversary podcast episode! We are so grateful that you are here, and our mission is to continue to uplift and empower you to make this next stage of your life the best stage ever, on your terms. I speak with Lori Saitz today, on the topics of gratitude, meditation, and going from just Fine to Fabulous. Lori is the CEO of Zen Rabbit and host of the podcast “FINE is a 4-Letter Word.” She’s an award-winning writer, speaker, and broadcaster. And a nationally recognized expert in using gratitude and meditation as shortcuts to success.
If you know who you are, what you stand for and where you're going, you develop clarity, which leads to courage which helps you take the steps to moving through the fear.
Visualization helps you imagine what your future self looks like - how would you feel when you are in that life? When you can see that picture, and feel those feeling over and over again, today, as if it is real today, it magnetizes it towards you faster.
A lot of us are taught that if we see something then we'll believe it, but how it really works is if you believe it first then you will see it
What is the one thing I can do such that by doing it, everything else becomes unnecessary?
Gratitude is a choice. How do you want to see life? Gratitude is at the highest energetic level you can reach.
You can look for things to complain and criticize, and you can look for things to be grateful for - where do you want to live,? What energy do you want to live in
How does it feel to live in anger or frustration, versus living in a place of gratitude? Look at things through a different lens.
Finding time everyday to get quiet and get in touch with your inner voice is so important. What does your inner guide say? Meditation helps you do that. All answers lie within.
What does success mean to you?
The more we can raise our own vibration, the more the vibration of the entire world ge

#50. Kavita Ahuja: Our 50th Podcast Episode! On the Importance of Asking for Help
00:13:15
Enjoy this 50th episode of The Midlife Reinvention Podcast! Kavita discusses the importance of asking for help. She believes wholeheartedly that women like you have so much to offer still in your life, and so much still to learn and grow and contribute to the world. You are unique because you have the experience, knowledge, skills and passions to live the next stage of your life on your own terms. The world needs your talents, your positive energy and your contributions! Kavita's mission is to help as many women as possible like you reach your full potential, regardless of your age. She is thrilled to announce that she has officially received her Certified Professional Coaching (CPC) designation. Over the last year, she has gone through a rigorous training program with an organization called IPEC*, and is now a Certified Life Transition & Core Energy Coach!
Her goal is to help you rediscover your passions, release your inner obstacles, and gain confidence so you can create a happy and fulfilled next stage of life.
As adults, we often don't ask for the help that we need, like we did as children. Why is that? We all need help in our lives. Whether it be learning from our teachers throughout our lives, or from our mentors, our employers, our parents, our spouses, and yes, even our children.
Sometimes, however, when we feel stuck internally with thoughts of “I’m not good enough, or I’m not strong enough, or I’m not qualified enough, or “I don’t have what it takes, or I’m scared…we hesitate to ask for help because we are concerned about what people will think.
As adults we don’t ask for help enough and, especially now, it’s so important for our collective well-being. The last 2 years with Covid have seen a lot of upheaval in the world. We are all questioning our purpose moving forward. We realize life is precious and short and we don’t want to be looking back at our lives and regretting that we didn’t do that thing. It’s been called the Great Resignation and it's not just about our work life. It’s about what we want, yes, for our work, but how do we want to live according to our values? How do we want to understand our true passions and how do we want to contribute to the greater good of the world?
If we are feeling stuck in any aspect of our life, especially now, we shouldn’t be shy to ask for help. And to invest in ourselves, time, money, resources. Seek the help you need. Take

#51. Samra Zafar: On #BreakTheBias, the Trauma of Abuse, & Believing in Our Dreams
00:50:51
On this, International Women's Day Week, the theme is #breakthebias and that means imagining a gender equal world free of bias, stereotypes and discrimination. It is so appropriate to have as our guest on this important week, Samra Zafar. If there is one podcast interview you should listen to of the many that I've conducted, it is this one!
Be inspired by Samra's story of resilience, after being forced into a child marriage, and suffering years of abuse. Many of us would have given up after such trauma, but instead, Samra believed in her dreams and not only achieved them, but is motivating millions of women around the world who may also be suffering, to stand up for their own rights and not only survive, but thrive.
Samra Zafar is an award-winning international speaker, bestselling author, consultant & educator who advocates for gender equity, inclusion, and human rights. She is recognized among the Top 100 Most Powerful Women in Canada, and a Top 25 Canadian Immigrant. Her book, A Good Wife: Escaping The Life I Never Chose, is an international bestseller-named among CBC's Best Books of 2019. She is one of the youngest Alumni Governors at the University of Toronto, an Ambassador for Plan International, and a board member for WCH Foundation.
We are the ones who stand in our way the most. All our fears are valid, but at the end of the day life is all about choices. Are you going to let the fear prevail or are you going to say, yes I'm terrified, but I believe in this so much that I'm going to do this anyway?
We often feel like we need to have all the ducks in the row and have to have all the answers - we don't need to have all the answers!
Am I going to succumb and just give up or am I going to keep fighting? Because if I don't fight for my dreams, who will?
When people tell you cannot do something, they are showing you their limits, not yours.
Listen to that inner voice instead of all the other voices around you who say you can't. The things that are meant for us - they are already ours, and that inner voice is guiding us towards those things that are already ours.

#52. Rebecca Reynolds Moore: On Ambitious, Purpose-Driven Entrepreneurship in Midlife
00:51:12
I loved my conversation with Rebecca Reynolds Moore, and, as one female founder to another, I loved her practical advice on starting "YOLO" businesses - even if you are in your 40s, 50s, or beyond. There is a new paradigm shift that is happening, and if you even have a little twinge in your heart telling you that something needs to change, follow it, my friend!
Rebecca is the Founder & CEO of InANutshell Consulting. She emboldens female innovators and thought leaders (who want to make up for lost time) to launch or grow their own business. She coaches ambitious entrepreneurs to monetize their unique brilliance so they can create a fulfilling, sustainable, and impactful livelihood.
If more women started and ran their own business and had a voice in how to run businesses more humanely, we could make a paradigm shift in how businesses are run.
Blocks that stop us from moving forward include 1) fear of the unknown 2) become more conscious of unconscious programming in your head 3) fear and misinformation about and 4) judgement - either self judgement or from those closest to us
How do you develop courage? 1) Your sense of purpose has to be stronger than your fear 2) Constantly learning and getting better at what you do 3) separate to elevate, and 4) a willingness to fail
Never before has there been a group of women that are more educated, more experienced, have an understanding of technology and are living longer than now. We have a lot of insights and a lot of energy - we are not done yet!
Entrepreneurship is not about making millions instantly. It's about making an impact - it's about healthy ambition. It's not a hobby - it's a livelihood
Ask yourself, what were the highlights of my last 40 - 50 years, and what was the turning point for me? It's not just "life happens to you" but you can create the next phase of your life more than you could any other time.
Practical ways of reducing the overwhelm of becoming an entrep

#54. Anissa Buckley: On Becoming Untethered
00:52:39
Enjoy today's episode on Becoming Untethered with the wonderful Anissa Buckley. As she says, becoming untethered means letting go of societal expectations, previous expectations of yourself, and letting yourself be who you are today. We are at a unique stage in life because Midlife and the changes it brings affects every part of you: Your Body, Your Mind and Your Soul. Take the time to nurture each leg of the stool, my friend, and your life will be balanced.
Anissa has gone from Fortune 500 marketer to successful entrepreneur to global endurance adventurer, always using her passion for optimal wellness as a guide. In 2014, at age 46, Buckley had a personal transformation as several events occurred within 8 months: Both parents died, her 12-year marriage dissolved and she sold her 2nd business. The situation forced Buckley to reevaluate her goals, which she found is a common event for many in midlife. She spent the next 4 years traveling the globe, training for endurance events and transitioning to a minimalist lifestyle. The culmination of her research is b-untethered, a science-based midlife women’s wellness and adventure business. It is dedicated to helping women maximize their midlife through a science-based, personalized food, fitness, and frame of mind app and program.
To develop the courage to do the thing you really want to do 1) Have a vision for what you want your life to be 2) Immerse yourself around other people who aspire to the same types of things 3) Set small baby goals to help move you forward to the goal 4) Having a coach is very key - somebody that you can be accountable to and who can keep you on track and pick you up
Untethering means un-attaching yourself from what society says a 50 year old women should be and what she should be doing
In 1908 the average life expectancy of a woman was 52 which is the average age of menopause. Only recently have some dollars been allocated to research on post menopausal women. Science has shown us that when sex hormones are depleted, we

#55. Liz Solar: On Embarking on Your Life's Creative Journey
00:49:54
Enjoy my conversation with Liz Solar, as I'm sure it will provide you with some motivation to embark on your own creative journey moving forward. Her mission is to share stories to promote understanding, empathy and a little more conversation - which is so needed in the world right now! Liz Solar is a Boston-based voice actor who can be heard on commercials, interactive apps, audio books, and corporate narrations for regional and global brands. She has produced and participated in storytelling events, and produces and hosts the Embark podcast. Liz coaches reluctant speakers to communicate with more confidence, power and grace. Her signature talks include "No is Not a Four-Letter Word". A founder and contributor to the writer's blog Acts of Revision, Liz is completing her first novel.
So many things are out of our control, but those that our in our control we should at least attempt to do - it may not be a success, but that's also a part of the process.
So many of the stories we tell ourselves originate from birth or old stories. They are stories about someone else's ideas of what we could be or should be. There is less time to waste when we are in midlife. It becomes more important to define who we are.
We have many drafts and chapters in our lives that we are always updating. Listening to negative stories about ourselves will silo us to the point where we feel we can really only do one thing, which is totally not true.
We need a tribe who tell us that "you've got this - your success is our success" - because if you're doing it we know that there is a possibility for us
Many women do not know how to ask - we minimize our ask when people actually want to share their expertise. The ask is a really important thing.
There is nothing that will push you as much as adversity. Either its going to kill you or its going to reinvent you.
We often find ourselves saying yes to things that we don't have time for or even care about. We need to learn to be really direct in the way we say no.
Ideas have a way of being contagious - people can have the same idea without knowing it - whoever brings it forth early on that becomes the idea that gets followe

#56. Kavita Ahuja: On Our Four Different Life Stages or "Ashramas"
00:13:37
Enjoy this episode of The Midlife Reinvention podcast where Kavita ponders the question, "Why do we do the things we do?" If we can have a clear answer to that question, we are so much more far ahead. She also discusses the concept of Ashramas - which, according to Hinduism, are the four stages or transitions in life that we go through. These stages in our life are not something we should be afraid of or avoid. Every stage has its beauty and benefits. Do you believe that the best years of your life are behind you, or ahead of you?
Sometimes we fight against the natural order of things because we want to hold on to what has passed. Or we are so focused on achieving the thing - going through each item in our bucket list - that we don’t enjoy the journey.
Try to remember everyday that you are exactly where you are meant to be, and everything is perfect and unfolding exactly as its meant to be for your own growth and evolution. The universe is conspiring in our favor, whether you realize it or not - do you believe that?
If you think that the best was behind you and there is not much more that you can do, then that is exactly what will happen. If, however, you look to the present moment and see all the possibilities it holds, you will see how the world opens up with all its possibilities. As Wayne Dyer says, "When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change."
Our mission with Power Purpose Play is to: Empower 1 Million Women Worldwide in Midlife to live their next stage of life to the fullest.
To reach one million women worldwide we are offering the online learning option of our course, "It’s My Time Now!" at no charge to you. This is a curated journey which I have researched and delivered consisting of 7 modules and 26 lessons of exercises, tools templates and videos.
It will take you through the process called the pyramid of reinvention. It will take you through assessing your level of satisfaction in many areas of your life, help you determine your strengths or superpowers, your passions, your changing values, and your reason for being or Ikigai.
We will then take you through a visualization exercise to meet your inner mentor - which is you - 20 years from now. We will go through a process to identify and quieten your inner obstacles, and go through methods to increase your confidence so you can reach your inner mentor. Finally we will lay a framework to work

#57. Mimi Bishop: On the Modern GenX Woman!
00:37:57
Enjoy this great conversation with the lovely Mimi Bishop - our joint goal to empower GenX Women will I'm sure motivate you to take some of our tips and build them into your own lives. As she says, there's plenty of time to enjoy what's in front of us, and we have the hard earned wisdom that we may not have had in our 20s or 30s. If we use that life perspective and couple that with what's ahead of us, it can be magical!
Mimi is the co-founder of Modern Gen X Woman, a company built by Gen X women, for Gen X women. Their mission is to make Generation X Women the wealthiest female generation by way of business and career coaching. Mimi co-hosts the podcast Modern Gen X woman. Mimi is a certified life coach and Energy Leadership Index Master Practitioner (ELI-MP) who trained at IPEC.
Triggers can be subtle or significant - it could just be that you wake up one day and say, "you know what - I don't want to do this anymore!" And - that's ok! It is never too late to start doing something different
GenX women have been hidden for a long time but also have been the generation to bridge the divide between the boomers and the millennials.
There are some collective traits that we share and some collective struggles. For example, we had a lot of professional turmoil in the economy - recession, dot com, 911, 2008 meltdown, pandemic, along with dealing with children and our aging parents.
We often suffer from the Worth deficit where we don't really own our worth or speak our value.
We must ask ourselves what is the Worth origin - where does this come from?
When women have wealth we have the authority to revolutionize how business is done. Gen x women should lead the way because we are revolutionaries
Advice to women thinking of a shift to entrepreneurship: 1) networking - its about reaching out to people and making genuine relationships 2) if not clear on what you want to do - work with a coach to help you figure that out. 3) be open to the things that just get you excited - that will give you clues 4) take it slow - do one thing at a

00:48:22
I trust you were blown away by Jacqueline (Jack) Perez's incredible positive energy and humor and gained a lot from our conversation. Through her platform, Kuel Life, Jack champions change, normalizing aging for women through curated content and women-driven brands.
Jack founded Kuel Life in 2017 and the community grows daily. With over 54 Kuel Life Industry Thought Leaders and 40 women-driven brands, Kuel Life offers women an opportunity to Share, Learn, Shop, and Play with Our Second Act Sisters!

Jack brings deep, start-up experience; having worked with hundreds of small to midsize companies. She is excited to finally birth her own start-up. Having earned an MBA from the University of Chicago, Perez carries a hard-nosed business understanding to the entrepreneur world.
Women are freaking amazing! Even though there has been a proliferation of women driven brands now - there's still not enough!
We have been taught that there is just not enough room at the table for us women. So we've got to be better than everyone else. And work 5 times as hard as anyone else so we can get that coveted seat. The best thing about platforms like Kuehl life and Power Purpose Play is that the entire table is for skirts!
Normalizing aging means we as women have to stop judging one another. We should all feel empowered by each other's decisions and choices and have that room to not judge. It would be really wonderful if we gave each other more room to express ourselves and make choices for ourselves that have nothing to do with impressing anyone else.
It's never too late - as long as your breathing and in the world, the op

#59. Kavita Ahuja: On Life Lessons From a Little Bird!
00:13:31
Join Kavita Ahuja in this short solo podcast episode as she tells a story of a little bird who was trapped in her house, and the life lessons we can learn from it. It's all about our comfort zones and how we react when we are taken outside of them.
When we, as humans, find ourselves in similar situations - outside of the regular routine, or what we are used to - we also panic. We “fly around” like the little bird - flitting from one place to the next - banging our heads against the proverbial window wishing to get out of the situation.
How many times have you felt outside of the environment where you are comfortable, and have panicked or felt so out of control that you just wish you could leave? That is what this little bird experienced. If something presents itself to us which places us outside our zone of comfort, we panic and don’t know what to do. We fight against it and, rather than stopping, assessing the situation, and trying to grow into the situation, we try to flee, just like the little bird.
But what if we do the opposite? What if we become comfortable with our new surroundings or situations, and rather than panic, figure out how to survive in this new paradigm? Wouldn't that mean that we have a new environment in which to thrive and grow?
The only real way we can grow, thrive and expand ourselves is if we step outside of our own zones of comfort. We limit ourselves for fear of failure or judgment, or yes, even a fear of success.

Women in midlife have lived experience. We've done budgeting, people management, event planning, organization, crisis management, and you've used humor or tears to get through things. Its dismissive of society to think that women who are mid stage of life can't continue to contribute.
Women need to talk about themselves more and be willing to try. Don't be so afraid. Don't limit yourself or close the door on possibilities.
Diversity also means diversity of thought. What are your own non-conscious biases? You can do something about it. Non conscious means you're not thinking about it, and you could be thinking about it.
After transitions like divorce, you really need to find almost like your own personal board of directo

#61. On Creatrix Rising: Unlocking the Power of Midlife Women, with Stephanie Raffelock
00:39:41
Enjoy this week's podcast interview with Stephanie Raffelock - as we discuss everything about the great creative surge that begins in midlife. Women all around us are demonstrating courage and purpose as they stand in the light of truth. Regardless of your age - you can make a difference - and you can find that thing that gets you up in the morning. There is still so much inside of us to discover, to create, and to contribute.
Stephanie is an author, blogger, and speaker. Her goal is to inspire women to embrace the strength and power of their story. Stephanie is the author of Creatrix Rising, Unlocking the Power of Midlife Women. She’s also penned the award winning book, A Delightful Little Book on Aging. A former podcaster and i-Heart Radio host, she shares her passion for aging, women and feminist history.
This is a great time for women to be alive and to find their voice and to have a seat at the table, in business, in politics, in a lot of areas, and it's also a time that takes a lot of work from us still to step into the light of our truth and claim our voice.
Older women are the magicians of the culture - they have time to contemplate and reflect on life, and then shine that light for the women that stand behind them.
In our culture right now, women are making things at a greater rate than ever before - that's the great creative surge.
The third chapter is the most exciting chapter in the play or in the book - it's where the transformation happens.
There is a reason that we slow down and part of that reason is to reflect on the arch of your life and to appreciate the gift that it's been. As you get older, there is more space that's created where you don't feel the need to constantly be ambitious.
There is a reason that nature keeps us alive past our childbearing years - what is it?
When women start to share

#62. On the Body/Mind Connection and Listening to Our Intuition, with Tara Baldwin
00:46:30
This week’s episode is with the wonderful Tara Baldwin. You will truly be able to feel her positive energy and her ability to listen intuitively to what her body and mind are telling her. Her teachings on especially somatic embodiment - or actually listening to your body and feeling what it says - versus intellectual thought alone - are very powerful!
Tara is a master certified life coach and owner and CEO of Believe Life Coaching. Her approach uses a combination of neuro-linguistic programming, neuroscience, psychology, and somatic embodiment for true long term change. She has worked for and trained alongside industry icons for over 15 years & served as a top coach under Tony Robbins, studied neuroscience and meditations effect on healing under Dr. Joe Dispenza, worked under Brian Tracy, and studied under Cloe Madanes.
The somatic toolset is to really to listen to your body and embody the intellectual information it gives you. You're not just thinking it - you are feeling it.
By slowing down we are able to listen to those whispers and actually hear your body. Use your body as a tool to unblock or let go of things that are in the way of your goals in a way that rewires the nervous system.
If we listen to our intuitive body and how it wants to move vs our memorized brain on how its supposed to be, over time the stuck stuff keeps releasing and there is more space.
When visualizing, be in your body and feel as if you are there or the person you want to be. Feel and see it - use your visual, audio and kinesthetic systems.
If we could return home to ourselves first and learn to trust ourself then we can learn to trust the world and others so much better.
A lot of people don't know the perfect version of what they want yet so they don't start. What is that first aligned step you can take - then out in the arena it will unfold.
Whenever there i

#63. On How We Can Live a Life of Purpose & Joy TODAY, with Brianne Ligori
00:43:04
Enjoy this next episode of the Midlife Reinvention Podcast, where we receive practical tips and advice from Brianne Ligori - that we indeed can live a life of purpose and joy TODAY. Living life for each and every moment is the key to happiness.
Brianne Ligori lives and leads from the heart. She believes that everybody can—and should—live a life of purpose and joy. In her writing and coaching, Brianne is laser-focused on a worldview of infinite possibilities and a relentless pursuit of purpose. She sets an inspiring example by standing firmly for living according to her inner truth. Choosing joy, Brianne bravely set aside her dazzling corporate career to follow her bliss—sharing purpose-driven choices with the world.
You can find Brianne here: brianneligori.com @brianneligori Facebook: Brianne Ligori
Here are her key takeaways:
Pay attention to those opportunities that are right in front of you, and to key people in your life who show up as teachers to really challenge you.
When you are feeling flow in your work, it’s a sign you are in your place of purpose.
When thinking about entrepreneurship remember 1) Planning is key - especially when it comes to finances, 2) You can't do it all - seek help when needed, and 3) shift from a mindset of an employee to a mindset of a founder.
Shift from a TGIF mentality to finding it today. Use the formula: purpose + people + pace / power of choice.
We have the choice to create the life that we love - it's in our control - we are not victims of circumstances around our happiness in our days.
Detach from knowing exactly what we have to be doing today, and allow each breadcrumb to guide us on our path and trust that each opportunity will unfold as we start to follow the trail that is all around us.
Quieten the noise because we can't get the answers if our brain is so loud and busy. There is no space for the answers to come through.
Surround yourselves with people that are going to lift you up, support you towards your joy and goal. Ultimately it is your choice who you surround yourselves with.
Follow the Pull - follow what you feel pulled towards. If you feel that fire in your belly about something, usually that's a sign that you need to move towards it. You need to follow that path - or at least explore that path.

#64. On The What, Why and How of Building Confidence, with Kavita Ahuja
00:15:18
“Find the courage to face your fears, so you can develop the confidence to move forward"
Join Kavita Ahuja as she discusses the importance of building confidence, especially in midlife. From her own experience, and interviewing countless women who have faced adversities and challenges in their lives, she has discovered that the one common ingredient to their success is: Confidence. They have managed to move past those challenges to become even greater versions of themselves.
Each of these women believed in themselves; believing that they were capable of doing whatever they set their minds to. It is a deep knowing; a quiet understanding that originates from within that fuels their being.
You have achieved so much in your life, and now it is time to celebrate yourself. Take some time to write down a list of things or accomplishments - however big or small - that you have achieved that you are proud of. Make a list of your successes and remember - YOU DID THIS! When you remember what you did to achieve these things, it will allow you to channel your self-confidence.
So WHY is it important to build your confidence? Without it, it is difficult to take the first step to realize your dreams, or the steps that follow.
You will find every excuse in the world to put it off - procrastinate, blame others or events or lack of time or money or any other reason for not starting. Consider this quote from a previous guest I had on this podcast, Dr. Caroline Brookfield:
“There is a comfort zone, a growth zone, and a panic zone. The trick is to find the edge of your comfort zone into your growth zone without going into a panic zone”.
When we develop confidence in ourselves, we shift our mindset from a limited mindset to a growth mindset. As Tony Robbins says, “the first step in building confidence is knowing why you want to achieve it. Once you know your purpose, learning how to build confidence becomes a matter of retraining your brain”. He goes on to say that “confidence is not something people are born with – it’s something you must create. Building confidence creates the feeling of certainty that you can accomplish what you set out to do”.
But What Holds Us Back?
In a word? FEAR. If you don’t have the courage to face your fears, you will not develop the confidence to move forward. It’s as simple as that. But of course, not simple at all.
To develop courage, we must act,

#65. On the Power of Vision Boards, with Debbi Sluys
00:47:59
Enjoy this episode of The Midlife Reinvention Podcast where I speak with Debbi Sluys about the Power of Vision Boards. It will give you a glimpse into how visioning can help you expand your brain’s potential to see what is indeed possible for your future!
Debbi Sluys founder of Dare to Declare is a coach, trainer, and speaker who specializes in helping people expand their brain’s potential to see what is possible for their future with Vision boards. As a former Child Care Director, Debbi has studied personal development for over 30 years and has facilitated and witnessed science at work by guiding over a thousand clients to identify and declare their Vision both online and in-person in her Dare to Declare studio. Debbi has been featured on the High-Performing Coach podcast and interviewed by Jack Canfield (Chicken Soup for the Soul) for his Success TV.
We all have inner messages but it's if we choose to act on them. There is a small window and if you don't act on them, then it's lost. But when we do, and the more often that we do, they are going to become more clear and there will be more of them
The difference between Vision and goals is that Vision is something that you cannot physically accomplish yourself. Goals on the other hand help you accomplish your vision
The power of vision boards is the Be, Do and Have - not the other way around
With focused attention and a positive vision, the brain can regrow leafy type branches. Not only do we attract opportunities to us, but we also can see them more clearly- they may have been there but we never noticed them before.
The law of attraction has the word "action" embedded in it - when you do act and the universe responds, its not like a single thing - it's like the pebble in the pond
What's the price you're paying for not following your dream? What's the price those around you are paying for you not following your dream?
When you look at the mirror in the morning you need to say to yourself, "how dare you not show up your highest self? People are waiting for you"! Get out of your own way!
ASK, B

Having depression is a medical issue - it's a chemical imbalance in your brain - it's no different than if you had diabetes and you needed insulin
It's a circular path - more gratitude leads to more joy leads to more self love which leads to more gratitude
Self love is your first and most important love and is how you can actually serve the world best. If you start serving from your overflow, everyone is served a million times better, including yourself.

#67. On Being the Top Sixty Over Sixty, with Helen Hirsh Spence
00:47:51
Enjoy this next episode of The Midlife Reinvention Podcast, as Helen Hirsh Spence reminds us to believe in the untapped potential of people, regardless of their age. As Helen so rightly says, "don't ever think it's too late to do anything. It's Not!"
Helen is an Age Provocateur, a Mindset Shifter, and Thought Leader who speaks about the positives of ageing and the inherent negatives of ageism. She created Top Sixty Over Sixty, a niche age diversity consultancy, to provide age equity tools and training to businesses, and to support individuals who are seeking reinvention as they transition to their next stage of life with purpose.
People are beginning to realize that 50 is not old! Retirement age is something that was established in the 1930's and we still adhere to this belief which has no bearing on current findings.
A child born today has a 50-50 chance of having an average lifespan of 100, and that really changes the whole trajectory of lives!
Their needs to be an awareness of the capacity of those of us who are aging, and stop relating it to our grandparent's area.
Employers need to retain their older workers or rehire older employees because they bring a wealth of experience and expertise. They are trainable!
It's about a change in attitude, and a belief in oneself. Confidence has been eroded by the market which caters to a youth centric world. Instead of realizing that we are the ones that have 75% of the wealth today - marketers are still catering to younger people. There is tremendous potential in the "silver economy"
Experience trumps knowledge and skill - we can learn almost anything if we want to! Our brain has developed crystallized intelligence - we may not process as quickly when we were young when we had fluid intelligence, but that peaks at age 30 and from that point on is crystallized. Instead of a dirt road - there are highways interconnected - and that's what experience enables you to see and do

#68. On the Transformational Power of Coaching, with Kavita Ahuja
00:11:15
Join Kavita Ahuja as she discusses the transformational power of coaching. Coaching is about looking forward to what is possible. It is about visualizing what you want and achieving that vision with confidence and concrete planning. It is about lessening those inner voices and critics which tell us we can’t do something and flip it around - and instead say, Yes I can! It is about putting yourself first and that is not selfish - it is about investing in yourself, so you can show up better for everyone else.
She discusses her own transformational journey and how it is possible to flip the switch from "midlife crisis" to "midlife opportunity" by flipping our negative and limiting thoughts about ourselves into positive beliefs and action.
As she so passionately states, " I see your potential - even when you may not. I believe in you - even when you may not believe in yourself. I am confident you can live this next chapter of your life on your terms, and in the most satisfying way possible - even if you are not confident in yourself!"

#69. On Women and Leadership, with Palena Neale
00:54:03
Enjoy this informative podcast episode on Women and Leadership with Palena Neale. So many pearls to apply into our own lives! How do you lead in your life? At work? In your relationships? What about your health and wellness? Are you taking some time for YOU?
Palena is an accredited executive and leadership coach and educator, highly experienced in organizational and leadership development for the private sector, UN, government, non-profit, and academic organizations. She has designed and delivered leadership programs across four continents and founded Unabridged – a leadership development practice providing bespoke coaching, mentoring and learning for greater personal, professional and social impact.
In 2022, Globally, women in senior management is at 32%. In Canada, the number of women in the C-Suite is at 21%. The pace is very slow and if we continue at this rate, we are not going to reach gender parity for 130 years.
Many social, cultural and gender norms, as well as race, ethnicity and the double blind bias hold women back from leading and being more visible. Women are often having to balance likability and competence.
A lot of time there is a strong hesitation to pursue visibility. And one of the reasons I, "well, my work should speak for itself". There is a gender bias in being too visible, and to many, visibility means bragging, and bragging is bad!
There are 4 questions women can ask to rethink their professional goals: 1) What would your career or contribution look like if nothing was in the way? 2) What permission do you need to give yourself in order to become who you want to be? 3) How could you build access and support for your network? And 4) What do you need to learn?

#70. On Our First Days, with Kavita Ahuja
00:07:17
Join Kavita, as she muses about our first days! As she watched the children in her neighborhood embarking on their first day of school - and witnessed their nervousness and excitement. She saw how this day brings sadness to the parents who separate from their kids, yet pride at what they have become. As we pack our kids off to school, and settle back into our own lives – what is ahead for us? We all have the same feelings when we start something new. We have worry – will we be able to succeed? Fear – are people going to like me? Excitement – for all the new things we are going to learn and all the new people we are going to meet. Especially now, after 2 years of not seeing one another in person – this year is extra special.
Think about what you want your first day to look like. Whether that is a first day at a new job – a new career – or even the same career but with a different outlook on it. What will your relationships look like – can you bring the freshness back of the first day you met? How about when you felt so energized and healthy – can you bring that energy and vitality back into your lives?
It's all starts with our thoughts. If you can think it, it can happen. Think of all the positive possibilities. Yes, there will be doubts, and yes, not everything is going to happen magically. But if you think it can, with every fiber of your being – it has to happen. It’s just law. Be open to the possibilities around you – put yourself out there even if it makes you feel uncomfortable. Go for what you really want because there is no time like the present.
Kavita has created a system to help you get there. It’s called, It’s My Time Now, and you are invited with a small group of other like-minded women to join her this fall, starting the week of October 17th for 6 weeks of transformation. You will have Kavita live on zoom for 90 minutes each week for 6 weeks where she will take you step by step through this process she has created. You will be with other women in this group who want the same things – who want to feel like their first days are ahead of them and not behind them.
Are you interested? If so, email Kavita today at kavita@powerpurposeplay.ca and tell her why you want this day to be the first. She will send you all the details and the application form. It is only open to 10 women for maximum interaction and transformation. If you have even an inkling of curios

#71. On the Power of Our Third Acts, with Diana Dunbar Place
00:44:43
Enjoy this week’s episode of The Midlife Reinvention Podcast, with Diana Dunbar Place on The Power of Our Third Acts. You DO have the power to create the next most exciting chapter of your life! Diana is the founder of Third Act Quest and the new 333 Collective - which are both her way of living her passion to reframe the perception and experience of aging by inspiring and connecting women as they create their life’s most exciting chapter — their “third act.
After years of dancing on the edges of her passions through a roller coaster life and career, it was the coincidence of three “lightning strike” experiences that compelled Diana to dig deep to focus on what she truly wanted to do with her "one wild & precious life."
The beauty of any transition is that there is unbelievable opportunity for growth, where you have the opportunity to follow your heart and not just your mind.
By the time you've been here for 50 years plus you have had so many experiences, including resilience, which is a gift.
You are on the right path if you can stay curious and that helps you push aside fear, but moreover there are all these synchronicities as you follow your heart...it all seems to be served up to you on a path. If we are open to possibilities it can happen to any of us.
I'm the driver on this bus - I get to decide which direction we go and we have a finely tuned GPS inside and we've got to listen to it and know when we are off course.
Fear is powerful and it's an essential part of being alive. It's a survival tool, but we have to know where to put fear, we have to know when to listen to it and when it's simply just holding us back.
If we have a dream that's inside of us...we owe it to

Ask yourself what you really want. Not what society says you should have. That may have been ok in our 20s or 30s but now it's ok if you actually want something different.
Have a MacGyver mentality - that there is always a solution. You may have to take a couple of detours, but focus on what your end goal is.
Sort out fact from fiction and if this is what you want to do, be focused on it. You will always have your detractors, but similarly you'll have people who support you on your side.
Values evolve and change. When it comes to purpose - ask yourself - does this make me feel good? Does it make me happy?
I always said I never want any "could have, would have, should have's". Always try something - and if it doesn't work - then it doesn't work but at least you've tried!
This is the power trifecta! Black, fe

I really feel that a version of myself expires everyday and I do my best to become the next best version the following day.
It is our time to do what we want to do with our life, When I gave myself permission to make myself a priority a lot of doors opened, because the sky is the limit.
It's not about the obstacles, it's about the vision - what is it that you want? It's like we get another wing!
Being vulnerable doesn't mean I am not strong - I can still be a very strong woman and still be vulnerable. It's ok to cry sometimes.
The person in the mirror is your best friend and you need to be kind to that person, and figure out what are the possibilities you have to overcome the obstacles that you are facing in that moment.
You have a choice, even if your panties are on your ankles! You can change your mind! God allows U-turns!
When you acknowledge all the blessings that you have in your life, then you live a life of abundance.
I refuse to be a thermometer - I want to be a thermostat! I want to be the one who sets the temperature in a room when I walk in a room! I don't want to take the negative, or the low, or the stress energy from anybody, I want to bring the joy into the room!

Setbacks are often set-ups. We see things that happen in life as setbacks when in fact they are usually they are a set-up for something bigger and better.
What I desire matters, how I feel matters, who I am in the world matters. I matter!
I know that I'm the creator of my own reality and I sourced this happening for a reason.
I'm open to receiving because I know that when there is a clear intention - it's always reflected in the results. The results will show up.
As women when we can reclaim that intuition, when we can slow down enough to listen, when we can really ask ourselves, what is it that we desire - what do I desire right now?

#76. On Our Big Hairy Audacious Goals, with Kavita Ahuja
00:11:56
Enjoy this next podcast episode with Kavita, as she speaks about setting Big Hairy Audacious Goals for yourself, which align with your strengths, passions, values - and how much impact you want to make for those you choose to. Even if you think things are going great - there is always a chance to bring out a blank slate and ask yourself - can I do better?
The all-too-common question: “What do I want to do with the rest of my life?” looms large in our minds. It always seems to be about the DOING – but I challenge you to disrupt this way of thinking.
What if you were to think about who you want to BE first? Think about it this way:
“Who you want to BE determines what you will do, and how you will achieve it”
The only way we can really figure out what we want to do (and how to do it) is to first start with the WHO. Who do you want to be, and why? The answers will come from within if we really stop to ask ourselves deep questions and answer truthfully.
What is your BHAG – your Big, Hairy, Audacious Goal?
Take some time to write down what comes to mind right now for you. Remember, your goals can be as outrageous or audacious as you want – but it is a dream you have for yourself. If you’ve done the work of thinking about your strengths, passions, and values – no doubt this BHAG will align with them.
It should make you feel uncomfortable. As it stands today, to what degree do you think you can achieve your BHAG? Of course, blocks will come up as you think about executing your BHAG. Write those blocks down and ask yourself – what strengths do I possess which will help me achieve this goal?
As we transition in distinct stages of our lives, always remember who you want to BE first. Let your BHAG guide you, and work to uncover all the remarkable things you already have inside of you – that are just waiting to be revealed to the world.
In the meantime, if you are thinking about your BHAG and are at a crossroads in life - maybe thinking about changing your career, moving ahead in your current one, leaving it to start a new venture, retiring to pursue your passions, or doing a combination of all of these - but are confused - reach out to me. I’ve been there, I know how you feel, and I have created a process and am trained to help you find the answers.
My bhag is to positively impact 1 million women worldwide - but that starts with one powerful wo

#77. On Holistic Nutrition as We Age, with Glenda Britton
00:50:14
Enjoy this podcast episode with Glenda Britton. Her passion for holistic nutrition as fueled by her own lived experience, is a lesson for us all to think about our own lifestyle and nutrition and how we can improve our energy, health and life if we follow some simple strategies.
After years of being unwell, multiple diagnoses and medications, along with buckets of supplements, the doctors said, "There's nothing more that can be done". She had no choice – out of sheer desperation, she turned to nutrition... Initially having no idea what to do – she spent HOURS every day in the kitchen - lucky for her it worked!
She returned to school to learn the science behind how food could help her get better when nothing else could. Now, Glenda happily states that she’s healthier now than she was 20 years ago.
You can find Glenda here: https://www.facebook.com/gebrittonrhn https://www.instagram.com/glenda.britton/?hl=en https://www.linkedin.com/in/glendabrittonrhn/ www.glendabritton.com
Here are her key takeaways:
Even though there are nutrients, foods, supplements and lifestyle strategies for symptoms, unless you go upstream to the actual cause or imbalance, you just won't make any gains.
We are at a place in history where we have come so far away from our natural food sources that we need people like nutritionists. Nutritionists wouldn't have been a thing 100 years ago because we were eating organic foods in soil that was robust and full of nutrients.
The microbiome is a series of bacteria, fungi, parasites, and viruses which is everywhere through our bodies and is a big indicator of our health. Most of our microbiome is in our gut. Even the bad ones have some good properties.
The problem is not the gluten, the problem is the gut. The problem is the health of the gut.
The Superager concept is both cognitive and physical. In our 60s to 80s we can function 20 or more years younger than what is expected in that age range.
We know that depression is an inflamed brain and that the gut and brain are connected. Is a direct connection. If we are working on inflammation in gut - can help with brain health. It's holistic.
A lot of people are having health crises sooner and are turning to healthy, holistic lifestyles as a result.
By supporting smaller farms, we are protecting our planet and lowering our carbon blueprint.

#78. On Climbing Our Own Personal Mountains, with Karen Simpson
00:47:07
Enjoy this next podcast episode with Karen Simpson, as it is sure to provide you with some food for thought on how you can climb your own personal mountain!
Karen wants everyone to become confident identifying and celebrating their awesome. Her career spans over 30 years as a certified HR leader, DEI expert, tech sales professional and, in 2019, she was awarded Canada's #1 Recruiter. Most recently, Karen was President of Lean in Toronto leading a team of 30 who were passionate about helping women become unapologetically ambitious.
In her late 50's she became an endurance athlete recognized as @karengeterdone onsocial media and has climbed the highest mountains in 9 countries, ran 5 marathons and hit the podium for her first duathlon. She is a cancer survivor and has completed the Ride to Conquer Cancer twice. As Karen says, "Whether you think you can or think you can't, you're right."
Reinvention is an evolution and building upon what we already have that's awesome.
The things that got me to move forward were all of my strengths. All the things that I was using with other people, were the things I needed to direct to myself now.
I look at our lives as simply a series of decisions we can make. Are we going to be proud of ourselves at the other side of that decision?
I'm at the point where I walk into my fears and I ask myself 2 things - am I afraid or am I reacting to doubt?
I think you really need to look at why you would be stopping yourself from doing something - step into it - what is the worst that could happen?
I think we all need to train that little voice of doubt- every time we have doubt we need to start exercising this.
If you do the right think I strongly believe it's going to come right back to you. What's the right thing for you to keep your confidence and move forward in a progressive and productive manner?
There is never going to be a perfect moment, and sometimes we need to just believe in ourselves so muc

#79. On Moving from Tragedy to Inspiration, with Dr. Zhu Shen
01:13:31
Enjoy this moving podcast episode, as you learn about the incredible reinvention story of Dr. Zhu Shen, from tragedy to inspiration. She shares her vulnerable story about how she "chose to bare my soul to reconnect with my son, reclaim my buried artistic prowess, transforming from a ‘Tiger Mom’ to a ‘Zen Mom’.”
Dr. Shen is an award-winning writer, film producer, director working on her first personal documentary feature, JOURNEY OF A THOUSAND MILES , "an ode to the bond between mother and son, told with radical vulnerability and honesty," and “a deeply moving look into the love that binds a family."
She is best known for producing a 2019 Oscar-qualified animated short, CHANGYOU'S JOURNEY, written & directed by her teenage son Perry S. Chen, in honor of her late husband, Dr. Changyou Chen, a Stanford-trained biotech founder & cancer researcher who lost his life to cancer itself.
I'm gutsy and I'm not afraid. The fearlessness empowered me to think about possibilities in life. Ask people what you want! 80% of the time people say yes to me - because I thought of asking!
What I've learned is that there are times when we don't even know the inner strength that we have within us, when something tragic or devastating happens to us in our lives.
When tragedy or setbacks happen in your life, you can view it as an opportunity and a test of your character.
Connect with like-minded people. You can start small - you don’t' have to quit your job immediately when you're realizing that what you're doing is not what you want to do. You can start learning about the things that you may have interest in from your younger days.
Start off with curiosity, and connect with people who are doing the things that you are curious about. Do something small and you will find out if its something you would truly want to do.

Kavita wants this for you, and her goal this year is to help you find happiness in the work you do. Whether that is in your job, starting your own business, volunteering for something you are passionate about, retiring, pursuing a buried passion. Does what you are doing right now make you happy? Is there something missing that you want to change about it? What is it? Why aren’t you doing something about it?
Her goal this year is to help you cut through all the noise and to help you figure out who you really are, what you really want, and how to get there. Here are Kavita's key takeaways on how you can have a 2023 beyond your wildest dreams :
1) Try to get rid of the excess “baggage” in your life. Ask yourself – what do I really need to be happy?
2) Discover what really matters to you. Are you putting your attention to those things, rather than adding layers of confusion and noise around you?
3) Can you be internally happy where you are, in this moment? Do you really need to have extra things or go to other places to be happy?
4) Think of all the abundance in your life right now. Do not focus on the lack, but the wonderful feeling of abundance, and more abundance will flow to you.
5) Relax and enjoy the moment – and

00:50:38
Enjoy this next podcast episode with Melissa Davey who is sure to inspire you, as she talks about the importance of recognizing, and taking detours in our lives. By taking these detours you can learn things about yourself that you never imagined were even possible.
Melissa retired from a lengthy corporate career in 2016 to pursue her third act and dream of becoming a filmmaker. Melissa began her early career in Legal Services pursuing compliance and advocacy for disabled children. For 22 years, Melissa worked throughout the United States to bring services to individuals and the disability insurance marketplace.

Melissa’s film was accepted by and screened at 8 film festivals throughout the US and Canada, winning awards and confirming that it is truly never too late to learn something new.
Her second documentary, Climbing Into Life, is currently in post-production.
More than 50% of the time people ignore signs or push them away. When we are young we are taught fantasy vs reality, but I think that is a mistake - we should be open to everything.
Even if it's scary, unless we allow ourselves to try something new, do something that you haven't done before, that probably scares you a little bit, you might miss something that you want to try something new.
I encourage people to talk to other people, expand your group, find out why you might not take that next step, and when you figure out why you're probably going to say - why did i allow that to hold me back?
I've had failures that I've felt terrible about, but that I learned from. So every time I failed I had this new learning bucket.

#89. On Navigating Mental Health: Career Reinvention & Building Confidence in Midlife, with Dr. Jeanne-Mari Retief
00:38:32
This week's podcast episode covers an important topic that you may be facing, and which hopefully will inspire you on your journey of healing. Dr. Jeanne Mari Retief speaks candidly about her journey of navigating mental health issues and career changes. Her story of how she integrated her previous career into creating something new despite her panic disorder, is a wonderful lesson for us all - that we can seek serenity yet still experience the adrenaline rush of creating something new.
Here are her Key Takeaways: 1) Mental illness still has such a stigma around it – it is misjudged – and there is a pressure to hide the diagnosis and shame around it 2) Everyday you have to wake up and start over and try again and you have to be ok if you just have a bad day. 3) Find what works for you and don't be too hard on yourself if you have panic attacks or mental illness. Whatever you need to do to make peace with that and to be kind to yourself, that's what you need to do 4) The more you talk about it, the more almost normal it becomes and the more normal it becomes the more you're ok to make peace with it 5) Nothing worthwhile is ever going to be easy – you will always have obstacles. If you're going to make a change, just make sure you're not making a change because you want it to be easier. Do something challenging which will still fulfill you 6) Figs stand for reminding us that we are co creators of our universe and that we are all here to serve each other and to share in each other's creative energy and to build each other up 7) Self care is really about just caring about the space that you occupy and the energy you share with others

#94. On Confusion & Self-Doubt: How to Build Confidence and find Fulfilment in Midlife
00:25:50
Enjoy this next episode with Kavita Ahuja, where she goes through a mini training on how to begin to overcome Confusion, Self-Doubt, and Lack of Confidence as you may be transitioning in your career or other aspects in your life.
If you are you experiencing a shift in your career which is also affecting other aspects of your life, you may be experiencing the following 3 emotions:
Confusion - where do I even begin to figure out what to do and what I really want?
Self doubt - feelings of not being good enough, or that you are not capable of doing what you really want to do
Lack of confidence - which is stopping you from taking the first step towards your future.
Perhaps you’ve been laid off. Or are re-entering the workforce after a break. Perhaps you are considering changing roles within your company, or moving to a different company in a different capacity. Perhaps you are considering retiring, or even starting your own business. But you don’t even know where to begin. You are confused. Can you relate to this?
The second emotion you may be feeling right now is Self doubt - feelings of not being good enough, or that you are not capable of doing what you really want to do.
These feelings are normal. The feelings of some form of “I’m not good enough can take the form of, for example - I’m not qualified enough, not smart enough, not experienced enough, not worthy enough, etc. Do these sound familiar?
The final common emotion we all face when experiencing a career transition is a lack of confidence. It is important to be confident, because confidence helps us takes our first steps, helps us avoid procrastination, and helps us move from our comfort to our growth zones. It allows us to shift from a limited mindset to a growth mindset.
Discover how to deal with these 3 emotions with practical tips and exercises through this training.

Here are her key takeaways: 1) When you put your hands in the soil it has all the properties of nervous system regulation, anti-depression, and the healing power of the sun 2) Cracks are where the light shines through. 3) The ability to feel your way through is a feminine superpower. It doesn't make women weak, it makes women super powerful 4) If you can go from your lizard brain down into your gut and let your gut do the thinking and heart do the feeling, you can do so much better 5) A lifescape is 1) organized 2) healthy and it has 3) wow factor – that vital energy 6) To be a gardener of people means that everyone that stands in front of you is unique, must be seen, valued and heard, and your job is to cultivate their seeds. 7) The more you share out, the more you release it from your yourself; now you have this opening for another layer of learning to come in. 8) Do not take offense – instead cultivate your agency, sovereignty, your power, your intellect, ask intelligent questions, get more curious, don't get offended! 9) Be a Badass Crone – you don't have to be limited by your age! Linda is a business leader, Harvard MBA, and social entrepreneur who is dedicated to advancing our understanding of and response to personal and organizational transformation. She is the author of two books, Dancing with Disruption, and, Women & Transition.
Dancing with Disruption is available in print, audiobook, and electronic versions wherever you buy books.
Here are her key takeaways:
1) Those moments of disruption or shifts of how we think about ourselves are an enormous invitation to help us expand 2) Disruptions in our adult lives are common and we now have this great opportunity to respond differently to them 3) Changes are very goal oriented and are used to make alterations on an intact or static self concept. In transitions we are welcoming instability for a time but through that we are re-examining our assumptions upon we define our self concept 4) If we choose transition, we invert the mountain – we expand as we go up, and it is repeated, regardless of the circumstances. We only have to make the choice of choosing the next trailhead. 5) Emotions can serve as an oracle, not an obstacle to our success 6) HAIL™ is a tool to help reframe our emotions – so our emotions don't have such power over us on a daily basis. It diffuses an emotions power over us. 7) Storytelling is a way to begin to think about what our truth is and to connect in a current way with our voice or our truth. 8) You need people around you who can create a safe environment and ask – why not? They are essential for your growth. 9) Never have we ever need everyone's voice as we do now. Everyone's voice matters. Engaging people to use their voices is essential right now.

#97. On Becoming an "Erin Brockovich" For Your Cause: Finding True Fulfilment in Midlife, with Sandy Rosenthal
00:50:09
Enjoy this inspiring interview with Sandy Rosenthal - it will prompt you to think of those things that you are passionate about – what is stopping you from going for them?
If you have heard about the famous environmental activist, Erin Brockovich, you will be interested to learn about Sandy's story – which is remarkably similar. At the age of 48, Sandy realized that her entire life had prepared her to stand up to the most powerful engineering outfit in the world, and win!
After Hurricane Katrina and the federal levee failures in New Orleans, Sandy founded the non profit Levees.org with 25,000 supporters nationwide. Her book––Words Whispered in Water––is about how she led an investigative team to expose the culprit in the levee breach disaster––the Army Corps of Engineers––and how the agency spent millions covering up its mistakes.
1) A huge life altering event can make someone do what in hindsight are crazy or impossible things.
2) I don't think I would have taken on this cause if I didn't have my confidence and my ability to be understood.
3) In the beginning don't worry that you don't know everything, or that you're not an expert. Don't worry about money. People will be happy to fund you. The money and the experts will come
4) Don't worry that you don't have all the answers. All you need to do is ask the questions. That's all you need to do. Ask the questions!
5) All you have to do is ask a reasonable question, make a valid point, and back it up with data. You will get your message heard.
6) If you see a wrong in your community, don't be concerned that you may get criticism – that is evidence that you are on the right path.
7) While family support is important, their approval when you decide to go on your quest is not required or necessary – don't have your family be everything – they are part of who you are and your support group, but not the only thing.
8) You can be your spokesperson. In fact, you're the best because you will become the best person through the expertise and your passion that you develop
9) The big guy

Eating less and moving more doesn't work. It doesn't work chemically or physically.
We don't have to be a slave to the scale, we don't have to be chasing skinny anymore, we need to be looking at strength for our second chapter.
Your 20 year old self is gone - what are you doing now to keep yourself thriving?
What can we do? Get rid of processed foods, start eating real food, let's build muscle.
Understand that it is baby steps - work on one thing consistently. Working on big goals can be overwhelming vs working on one small thing at a time.
If you are training for life then that's a bigger purpose, to prevent disease, to feel good that's a bigger purpose and that's going to keep you on your path.
When we work out too much, when we under fuel our body we are a sugar muscle burner, we are not a fat burner.
We are not destined to be fluffy; we are destined to be fabulous!

#101. On Self Sabotage and Trusting Our Intuition to Build Confidence, with Christina Woods
00:48:58
Enjoy the 101st podcast episode with Christina Woods as we discuss the importance of trusting our inner voice and intuition and how we tend to sabotage ourselves - some valuable insights to ponder over upcoming holidays and year ahead!
Christina Woods is a licensed Rapid Transformational Therapist®, Clinical Hypnotherapist, Empowerment Coach, and Reiki Master. She combines her background in corporate leadership along with her life experiences in dealing with trauma and abandonment to empower other women to trust their intuition and set themselves free of self-doubt.
You can find Christina here: https://christinalwoods.com/ christina@wisewoods.com
Here are her key takeaways:
We put so much emphasis on the outside, and not enough on the inside. We give our jars out there in the world to fill up, but we need to fill up our own jars first.
Sabotage is a lot of procrastination, poor health habits, no self care, it is grounded in "I'm not enough". It is about: let me blame the other thing so I can avoid doing that I know will get me what I want
Sabotage gives us approval, safety or control and is a way of dissociating from our feelings.
When we allow ourselves to feel our feelings, and name it, even if it's uncomfortable, you become very empowered. Name it, claim it and tame it!
If you get to the root cause of a belief, and change a belief, it will give you evidne of a different belief. Rapid transformational therapy (RTT) is a method of hypnotherapy which helps you do that.
We have our conscious mind and our subconscious mind and our subconcious mind is 95% of how we feel about ourselves and the world, and the lens upon which we see the world. Its a million times more powerful than our analytical conscious mind.
Our inner voice or our intuition is the true north or guiding light …sometimes we stop trusting our intuition and life becomes very rocky and unstable when you cannot trust our intuition, or that gut feeling
We often don't believe that something is available to us - like enough money, or good health, or "I don't know how", yet if we realize the power of our mind and the ability to shift our mindset - watch and see your life go in a different direction

#112. The Importance of Weightlifting in Midlife; How it builds confidence, strength, and resilience: with Kim Rahir
00:53:06
Are you ready to be inspired by an incredible story of resilience and reinvention?
As we navigate the complexities of life transitions, especially in midlife, finding clarity on our next steps can be daunting.
In this episode, we delve into a remarkable journey of overcoming adversity and reclaiming vitality. Learn how Kim Rahir, a mother of three diagnosed with MS, defied the odds to become a European Champion in Masters Weightlifting.
Discover how her experience led her to transition from journalism to becoming a health coach for middle-aged women, focusing on reactivating muscle and nourishing the body for boundless energy.
1) Gain insights into the power of resilience and the transformative impact of mindset on overcoming life's challenges.
2) Discover practical tips on building physical strength and resilience, tailored specifically for midlife women.
3) Learn a refreshing perspective on healthy eating habits and how to set achievable goals for long-term wellness.
Ready to embark on your journey of resilience and reinvention?
Tune in to the episode now and start taking small, actionable steps today towards a vibrant and fulfilling life.
Here are Kim's key takeaways:
1) Muscle is very important for functional independence, metabolic health and cardiovascular health - especially for women in midlife who lose 8% of muscle every decade 2) start where you are at - you need to find out what is your physical status and reconnect your brain with your muscle, especially if you haven't exercised in a long time. 3) I think resilience is more like a safety net that you knit for yourself where you have various points of support, and when one breaks away, you still have all the knots that will help you bounce back and keep going. Don't rely on just one support in your health system - have various points where you can fall back on 4) Tying to eat healthy is the worst strategy. Make your health goal specific and also let go of the big picture which can scare you. Always focus on what you can do right now, don't look so far ahead
The biggest takeaway from this episode is this: it’s never too late to take charge of your health - take small steps, start where you are, and celebrate all

#113. Rediscovering your Strengths: Why Your Superpowers are the First Step Towards Determining your Ikigai or Reason for Being
00:21:08
In today's episode, we're diving deep into practical strategies to identify and leverage your superpowers.
In this episode you will:
Identify Your Strengths: Pinpoint three tasks or skills that come naturally to you, setting the foundation for growth.
Celebrate Your Wins: List the coolest aspects of yourself in a quick, insightful exercise that boosts self-confidence.
Take Action: Explore real-world examples and actionable steps to effectively use your superpowers.
Here are specific exercises that Kavita shared during the episode which you can journal to help you identify your Strengths or Superpowers:
List 3 things or tasks that you are really good at (ie. I am really good at putting together a financial statement)
List 3 specific skills or talents you’ve developed that make you successful at what you do (ie. My mind has a natural ability to process the meaning behind the numbers)
List the 10 coolest things about you. These can be experiences you’ve had (eg.running a marathon, skydiving), roles you play (eg. parent, sibling, best friend), skills or expertise (eg. speaking French fluently)
Ask 3-5 people who know you well, “what do you think are my superpowers or zone of genius? What topic do you come to me for advice? “What do I do that you find of value?”
Is there a common theme in their responses and do their answers align with your own assessment?
Based on the superpowers that you’ve identified and others have shared, ask yourself: “Am I currently using my talents to the best of my ability?” “How can I use my talents or superpowers in a different way than I am using them right now that would make me more energized?”
