Two startling facts: What you believe about the world at 13, you will likely die believing—and what is shaping your view of the world isn’t what you think…
What are the CORE influences that shape what you belief and how you move through the world?
According the Barna Group (a research center in America) here is the list:
(I exaggerate, watch the episode for the REAL list). This is measured by time spend and impact. Mileage may vary from culture to culture... but what isn’t changing between cultures—the amount of time you spend on screens.
By the time a child is 14 they will have consumed on average 18,000 hours of media exposure – the equivalent of 6.2 years of 8-hour days of media saturation. Social media, YouTube, and TV is shaping culture MORE than religion or government or family.
What about the rest of the world, maybe culture is different and family and religion or government is still impacting youth more.
Maybe—I would argue probably more than in America or Europe but Asia is a few decades behind USA and USA a couple decades behind Europe as far as the decline of influence organized systems like religion or government has on a society. What we measure TODAY in culture is an indicator of what was happening 25-30 years ago in culture. Sure, there is still a huge influence in culture from religion and gov in the MENA. However, it has drastically changed in the last 20 years. AND, we have yet to see what culture will be like in 2050 once the 8-13 year olds are 38-43. So what media is shaping culture--what does that mean? What is the future impact of that cultural change?
Robert Henderson from Episode #193 weighs in on this topic with a comment on the affect broken families have on culture.

1) Control of the environment 2) A system of rewards and punishments 3) Creating a sense of powerlessness 4) Fear and dependency 5) Reforming the follower’s behavior and attitudes 6) Closed system of logic.
These were described by Margaret Singer’s Cults in Our Midst (1996).
In 1952, Asch wrote: ‘The greater man’s ignorance of the principles of his social surroundings, the more subject is he to their control; and the greater his knowledge of their operations and of their necessary consequences, the freer he can become with regard to them.’

You will face opposition by living a disciplined life by walking the road less travelled. The Question is what will you do about it and how will you RESPOND to opposition and insults and criticism.
Answer not a fool according to his folly, lest you be like him yourself. Answer a fool according to his folly, lest he be wise in his own eyes. Are you being criticized for wrong doing? Or right doing? If people are attacking you and insulting you because you new life style is hurting others or turning you into a selfish jerk . . . well then maybe it is justified and you need to re-evaluate wether it is working. If you are being criticized because you are doing good, being kinder, more generous, living healthier, telling the truth, not participating in the toxic and or illegal behavior of your old friend group…. Then rejoice—because it means you are on the right track. (This is where you need to be brutally honest with yourself and open you ears to mentor around you who can speak into your life with brutal honesty)
Bless those who curse, be patient with those who take advantage, respond gently when evil things are said about us. When slandered, we answer with kind words.

I’m guessing there are TWO reaction on hearing this news—“They are horrible people killing everyone!” or “ They are Heros!”
Also this past week in Euro the AstraZeneca vaccine distribution was halted as may young people developed blood clots, some losing their lives.
And, we are taking on risk from the Vaccine—the have been approved for emergency usage, but they did not go through years of animal testing like others have—there is skepticism, there is distrust, and what is amplifying the distrust—people feeling like it is being FORCED on them.
Which leads us to the topic at hand:
Should there be mandatory lockdowns and forced Vaccination? Should the media and big tech push more their fact checking tags and information? OR
John Stuart Mill, In On Liberty, argued that "the only purpose for which power can be rightfully exercised over any member of a civilized community, against his will, is to prevent harm to others." But what happens when the whole is causing harm against individuals who the community conjecture could cause harm? Isn't it then one tribe vs. another, and who ever wields the power wins?

Recently I interviewed Khayra Bundakji from the mstdfr network and founder of the Azzbda podcast, on Own the Future podcast, and learned two things:
Not the encouraging advice you’d expect to hear in an email newsletter about podcasting. Let me explain . . . During the conversation with Khayra I asked how Azzbda podcast was going, download numbers etc. typical stuff . . . Khayra graciously revealed they are producing one episode a month, and receive TEN THOUSAND listens each month. I was stoked. “10k while only putting out one episode a month. Epic!” I exclaimed. Khayra was not as enthused, “Yeah . . .” she said, “I mean I feel like we could have so much more.” *cue the record scratching* Wait what?? Hold the phone. Ten Thousand people show up a month and you’re bummed?!? Little did I know my hypocritical judgment was about to become exposed… For point of reference: The MEDIAN download of an episode (not mean or average) is 173 download per episode. For those of us who are foggy on our high school math, the median is middle number of the data set. Of the 660,000+ podcasts and hundreds of millions of episodes, 50% will have less than 173 download and 50% will have more than 173 downloads. The MEAN (or average) of an episode is 2000 downloads per episode (after accounting for the top top podcasts and those waaay down at the bottom). [according to Rob Walsh with Libsyn, in a piece from 2016]. These stats may have changed in the last three years—but not by much. Okay… back to Khayra. They have 10k per episode. Sure, it isn’t in the millions, or hundreds of thousand, BUT it is in the top 5% of all 660k+ podcasts in existence. On the graph you can see how Azzbda, the blue triangle, is performing better than 95% of all podcast! That better than 627,000 of the 660,000+ podcast—globally. From my perspective, as a relatively new podcaster still in the days of small beginnings, I would be OUT OF MY MIND to have 10k listeners per episode. The truth, however, reveals I’m a hypocrite. Because I look and my above median downloads per-episode, and I’m discouraged. If I am honest, I’d be discouraged if I was getting 10k, 100k, or a million downloads per episode. Why? Because there is always more, there is always another level of success to achieve. So . . . Am I even qualified to be writing this email to you? What might I say to benefit you in your journey? As I pondered all this . . . I came to a point of revelation, a point of truth in the form of a question: Why are you podcasting? Are you in the podcast business? OR . . . the business of podcasting? Are you in the podcast business? Are you doing it for the numbers? The following? The masses? The “money”? Hustling for another subscriber, the shout out, download . . . never stratified and always craving more? OR Are you in the business of podcasting? Are you satisfied with the one? The individual you touched with your words? What if you ONLY impact 173 lives. Would you continue? Would you continue to share your stories, truth, laughter, and tears with your world? Is your message/story/perspective so important, so costly, so worth it you would show up even if only SEVENTEEN people listened? As Kharya says, “Podcasting will save the world.” It happens one person at a time. Kharya is in the business of podcasting. She believes in her work and her message. She would keep showing up even she only changed one life through her work. It is easy to get caught-up and blinded with the numbers. That can happen with ten, or ten million followers. But, we MUST NOT miss the beauty of intimately impacting the ONE person listening. The ONE person caring about your work. If you don’t believe your work is worth it if you only touch one life . . . then you should ask yourself if you are giving yourself to something you truly believe in? Or are you chasing an illusion of fame and significance? If you find yourself in the podcast business, yearning for the attention of the world . . . quit. Instead . . . Join the business of podcasting . . . . . . the business of putting you work/yourself out there . . . the business of taking the time to saying something meaningful . . . but the business of seeing and saying something to the ONE. . . . Vilfredo Pareto was a leading economist, sociologist, and engineer in the 1800s. He is best known for the Pareto Principle, which is now known as the 80/20 Rule.[i] In short, the Pareto Principle explains the unequal distribution of wealth, income, land ownership, and production. Pareto stumbled upon this principle by observing how eighty percent of the land in France was owned by twenty percent of the population[ii] and that eighty percent of his peas were produced by twenty percent of his pea plants. What can you cut out of your life--and what can you double down on to see exponential gains and growth to reach your goals? [i] Many books have been written about the 80/20 rule over the past decade and how we can apply it to daily living, business, economics, and so on. It was the summer of 1910. Virtually the entire world had been explored, and in the minds of many, only one frontier remained—the South Pole. Thousands of miles away from civilization, Antarctica remained one of the last places untouched by the modern world. Robert Scott from England and Roald Amundsen from Norway led two separate expeditions, racing each other to reach the bottom of the world for land and country. Both men had very different styles of leadership. One last major difference that set Scott and Amundsen apart was their daily schedule. Scott and his men travelled as much each day as the weather and their strength allowed. When the weather permitted it, some days they trekked for up to nine hours straight. During inclement weather, they didn’t leave their tents at all. Amundsen, on the other hand, decided they would travel one-quarter of a degree of latitude every day—which is fifteen nautical miles or around twenty miles a day. Hiking twenty miles a day across Antarctica is hard but realistic. Through blizzards or sunshine, they marched twenty miles each day, no more and no less. On average, they spent five to six hours on their feet each day and up to sixteen hours resting in their tents. I've been thinking a lot about "tolerance" lately--and what it truly means to be tolerance. Tolerance is the freedom to criticize all ideas, ideologies, religions, system etc, WHILE loving those who hold ideals and values that are different than ours. In Episode 135 Dahlia Rahaimy and I talk about power of disagreement and how you can maintain relationships and love for one another without compromising on your values. This conversation got me thinking about "tolerance" and how we need the capacity to think critically about the implications of ideas while engaging in vulnerable relationship with those we hold disagreements with. As I pondered tolerance I thought of my conversation with Brandon Polk back in E022 where he also gives a similar definition of tolerance, the importances to being free to dissect ideas, with the emphasis on not judging the individual (rather judging ideas) and engaging in relationship with people who are not like us. Men and women sports weren’t divided because men and women FEEL difference, think differently or have different personality. But because Men’s frames are built stronger. Bones denser. Frame different.
The entire trans movement says “I was born in the wrong body”. So if someone says my mind is women by body male... then there is an agreement that the BODY is male. And cutting someone off or taking hormone blockers does not change the fundamental difference between XX and XY.
“Trans women are women” well. They are biological males who identify as female.
After all—isn’t gender merely a social construct? So if it merely a construct then why does a bio male need to complete in with bio females? And why is there even bio female sports, we weight class, or special Olympics? IOC Statement
