20 Feb 2022EP80 "The Art of Surrender" Elizabeth Traina01:04:22

A conversation with my dear friend and loving teacher, artist and energy healer Elizabeth Traina

Today we discuss how we are all artists, and how you can harness the energy of suffering and transform it for creativity, in order to heal yourself and others.

If you’d like to consult with Elizabeth for lightwork healing sessions, or to book a spot in her upcoming retreat in Mexico, you can find all info here:

About Elizabeth Traina:
Elizabeth is a New York-based visual artist and lightwork facilitator whose practices aim to support collective prosperity.

Elizabeth creates artwork that explores the intersection of modernism and metaphysics — influenced by a small yet rich, linage of sacred geometry created and transmitted by women. Elizabeth’s compositions are made of intricately layered transparent forms, suggesting luminescent multi-dimensional movement. Her work invites contemplation of principal concepts, such as matter, energy, form, being, individuation, and totality.

In addition to her studio practice, Elizabeth contributes to the intersection of art within social equity and justice movements. Early on in her career, she created youth art programs in Oakland and San Francisco and, while in the Bay Area, developed as a community muralist.  In conjunction with Xavier University,  in 2008 she co-created and lead the Community Arts Initiative for New Orleans Prospect.1 Biennial. Following this, Elizabeth developed Art & Consciousness Curriculum, an innovative hands-on workshop series. She ongoingly facilitates seminars both locally and abroad and has partnered with the New Orleans and New York City Departments of Education, the US Indonesian Embassy, Soho House, and Parsons New School.

Elizabeth expanded her education with training in Transpersonal Hypnotherapy, Energy Medicine, and Sound Healing. Currently, she continues her learning through ongoing metaphysical research, paints in her studio in Brooklyn, NYC, and offers custom Lightwork Sessions to clients and groups seeking transformational guidance.

Elizabeth is a New York-based visual artist and lightwork practitioner whose work explores the intersection of art, service, and spiritualism. Elizabeth welcomes you to use her artwork as transcendent meditative instruments. Each piece pairs with a written transmission for deepening contemplation. In addition to her studio practice, Elizabeth expands the ways art and mindfulness intersect with social equity and justice movements. She facilitated youth engagement in Oakland and San Francisco and developed as a community muralist while in the Bay Area.

In 2008, Elizabeth created the Community Arts Programs for New Orleans Prospect.1 Biennial and worked for Xavier University Community Art Department. 24 May 2020EP52 "On Being Brave" Hellen Yuan00:46:49

HELLEN is a collection of thoughtfully curated self-care tools created by Hellen Yuan, a New York-based wellness practitioner, foodie, designer and entrepreneur with over 20 years’ experience in the luxury, ready-to-wear fashion industry. Born in Taiwan and raised in Los Angeles, Hellen’s life has always been a blend of east and west mentalities.

After having experienced several losses in her life, Hellen found solace in methods of healing more closely related to her Taiwanese roots. She sought out many nontraditional healers, and eventually studied to become a Reiki practitioner herself. Part of this healing process also involved bath soaks; Hellen started developing layered formulas with potent healing mixtures of essential oils, salts, flowers, crystals, and sound.

HELLEN launched with four hand-crafted bath brew recipes that address different areas of a person’s life, correspond with the four elements, and open four of the chakras. In 2019, Hellen furthered her study of plant medicine by becoming a certified Aromatherapist through the renowned National Association for Holistic Aromatherapy. Favorite tonic: Every morning I make a juice tonic for myself – I call it my "Omega Cold Pressed Juice"! The ingredients include lemon, mint, lavender, ginger, beets, carrots, apples, turmeric and orange. It really helps build my immunity, which is so important during this time, and it is super anti-inflammatory.

I also create infused water that I drink throughout the day to further boost my immune system, detoxify, help with digestion issues. Plus, it is a great way to keep hydrated and it is super low in calories! I added a few of my favorite recipes below: Ginger/ Rosemary or Mint / Lime or Lemon Lavender/ Cucumber/ Lemon Strawberry/ Mint/ Lemon You can find Hellen at:  www.hellen.nyc @hellennewyork

21 Nov 2021EP71 Best Of "Daily Rituals" Jenn Tardif00:37:36

Jenn Tardif is magical. Upon meeting her she seems ethereal, and once in her presence you realize she’s incredibly grounded. As the founder of 3rd Ritual she creates objects to support meditative practices, which are beautifully designed and pleasant to the senses. She left a career in tech to apply her talent for building successful products to the sacred teachings she’d long been immersed in. During this conversation Jenn shares how the need for structure as a child led her to seek refuge in these practices.

We discuss the importance of ritual in every day life - from it’s simplest form to it’s more complex variations, and the joy of passing these traditions on to our children. Tardif is a teacher at Sky Ting Yoga who leads global retreats and trainings, and a certified aromatherapist who began creating custom blends for her students as a way to inspire self-care. Tardif launched 3rd Ritual while pregnant with her first child and has been on a steadfast mission to share the tools and techniques that support mental well-being ever since.

But what is a “ritual”? Simply put it’s anything done with beauty and intention. This week I encourage you to create a ritual for yourself. Choose an activity you “have” to do on a daily basis - this could be your shower, your lunch time, or even bedtime - and see how you can beautify it, and allow yourself to be mindfully present and uplifted while performing it. I’d love to know how it goes, please leave a comment and share!

JENN’S FAVORITES A favorite ritual she’d like to share with the audience: Trataka

Her non-negotiable self care ritual or routine: “As an antidote to anxiety I place great emphasis on putting myself to bed. This involves a series of small acts like lowering the lights, massaging MOON into my hands and feet, reading or journaling in bed, and giving thanks while breathing deep.”

You can learn more about Jenn and 3rd Ritual on their website or Instagram @3rdRitual and @Jenn_Tardif

23 Feb 2024EP104 "How To Support Your Body Seasonally" Bonnie Crotzer00:54:37

I had the biggest girl crush on Bonnie forever! And then I met her - and fell even deeper. She's charismatic, beautiful, energetic and intelligent, with a deep inner wisdom that defies years - she's an ancient soul for sure.

During this dynamic conversation we discuss the mysterious and alluring fascia and how taking care of it can literally heal almost everything, how we are all made of crystal, and how we're all as much "nature" as water, so let's be like it - flowing and free. Follow along and learn a few tips for getting juicier tissues, and how Bonnie's story of how she fell in love with it all.

About Bonnie:

For Bonnie, movement is a spiritual practice. She was born into a body that was made to move. As a dancer, yoga teacher, and founder of The Floss — a method of “stretching” designed to internally exfoliate connective tissue — her love and enthusiasm for mindful movement is positively infectious. Her life path is purposed in a deep study and curiosity for the miraculous human form and a devotion to sharing her wisdom while supporting others in their healing journeys.

With a unique teaching style described by Columbia Business School as “wisdom and whimsy” Bonnie makes what would normally feel overwhelming in terms of the vast knowledge about the human body completely accessible and empowering for her students. Many of her students have discovered Bonnie and Flossing through her brand collaborations & in person events, magazine and digital publications, and in classes and workshops held at Skyting, and online at The Floss.

07 Jun 2024EP110 "In Alignment With Integrity" Bex Urban01:00:00

17 May 2020EP51 "Keep it Simple" Jules Miller00:54:33

London native Jules Miller was no stranger to supplements when she founded The Nue Co. Having grown up with a doctor for a grandfather who specialized in the study of Vitamin B12, she knew the basics. It was only after she personally turned to supplements as a means to combat IBS, however, that she started to see the problems within the industry.

She found that, as a general rule, 50% of the ingredients in supplements are composed of synthetic fillers, bulking agents, and processed ingredients –– all of which made her IBS worse. Disillusioned by brands touting misleading messaging, questionable ingredients, and poor quality products, Jules realized that she could create a solution.

She left her job as a marketing executive to take on the supplement industry, developing products that utilized scientific research, clinically tested and clean ingredients, and the best practices from alternative medicines like Ayurveda.

By the time the brand launched in 2017, Jules had become a pioneer, redefining the entire category by creating products like Debloat Food + Prebiotic, which has consistently sold-out year after year and which many customers have called “life-changing.”

When she’s not at work redefining the supplement category and taking on the wellness industry, Jules advocates for mental health awareness, gender agnostic brands, and sustainability. Jules splits her time between New York and London with her husband, Charlie, and their beloved french bulldog, Lola.

Her favorite Ritual: One of my favourite morning/evening self-care rituals is to make my own interpretation of golden milk - the Debloat Latte. I create it by mixing our DEBLOAT + PREBIOTIC supplement, that carries a combination of organic turmeric, cinnamon, ginger, in with warm frothy coconut milk...it’s delicious and great for soothing the stomach.

"What is your non-negotiable self care routine or habit?" I'm going to have to go be really basic here and say washing my face. The bathroom has always been one of my favorite places and a sanctuary for me. After a long day of taking care of others faces there is truly nothing better than locking myself in the bathroom and giving myself the most tender touch and a nice long face massage with loads of lotions and potions. Also love baths. And therapy/mental health stuff is SO IMPORTANT!

24 Sep 2017Special Feature: "An Expert In Many Things" Nancy Valdes00:53:04

Ok I must admit I gave Nancy that strange title, the reason being I really do believe she knows everything! Let me introduce her properly: Today on The Live Journal Podcast, meet Nancy Valdes CCT, holistic wellness expert, owner and founder of True Being LLC. This woman is an encyclopedia. I've known Nacim for about a decade and I can't tell you how many times I've raised a question that she didn't have the simplest natural solution for: Me: Nacim I'm getting a weird rash... Her: Have you tried coconut oil? Me: My mojo is off... Her: Have you tried Maca? And so it goes... If you've been following along you've previously met her here on the blog. She is also a collaborator, having shared instructions on how to properly Dry Brush your skin. Today she shares her journey, demystifies taboos around colonics, and tells us how listening to her body changed her life. If you're looking for the best, most gentle and incredibly cleansing Colon Hydrotherapy, or if you want to try the famous bio mat (she has one!), please email Nancy: info@truebeing.org Enjoy! Paola

27 Sep 2017EP3 "Glowing Skin" Arden and Paola00:38:08

As my next "Glowing Skin Cleanse" session fast approaches (2 1/2 weeks guys!) I sit with Arden to explain the benefits of cleansing, why Fall is the best season to do so, and how this particular program can benefit if you're looking for a gentle yet thorough approach. A few highlights: * Fall is a transitional season, taking us from the heat and energy of the Summer, into the cold and slow Winter months. It's good to get rid of the sludge we have accumulated (and all those glasses of Rose) before we feel like hibernating - and let that stuff literally stick to our system. * My program is a step by step guide, gentle yet deep. I give you the tools and set up for a long term beauty and wellness routine. Best of all I will be your partner, going through the process with you. * You can lead your day to day during the program. No need to seclude yourself for the three weeks, this works around busy schedules. I will give you ways to create moments throughout the day, to take time for yourself without feeling selfish or guilty. Please listen in. If you get a chance to visit us on iTunes at The Live Journal podcast please leave a review and rating and as always, if you have any questions about the cleanse or any please email me, I am here for you, any time paola@paolaatlason.live

15 Oct 2017EP4 “Yoga And Motherhood” Jessica Mougis00:18:49

Jessica Mougis is honest, wise, and all-around lovely. It was an absolute pleasure to interview her for the Live Journal Podcast! Jessica is a seasoned yoga instructor who currently works with young children and families. She recently founded Jem Yoga NYC and teaches throughout Manhattan while raising her adorable daughter, Emily. Jessica and I had a lovely conversation about the following: - What does “balance” really mean for busy humans? How can yoga be practiced in a way that isn’t sweaty, intense, and Lululemon-clad? What’s the point of doing yoga with babies and toddlers? How can we take care of ourselves when there isn’t much “space” for it? Thank you, Jessica, for sharing your perspective on so many juicy topics! You are truly wonderful. Check out Jessica’s class schedule, videos, and blog at jemyoganyc.com

07 Jan 2018EP6 "Light On The Shadows" Amina AlTai00:40:50

Meet my dear friend Amina AlTai, 33 years young in this lifetime, with an ancient and wise soul. Our paths crossed again following a brief disconnect, and I'm ecstatic I get to see her lovely visage regularly during our coaching sessions (Amina is MY wellness and business coach... yes.. wellness coaches get coached too :)

Please read below for our .LIVE Journal Q+A, and listen in as we discuss shedding light on your shadows, how what you hide owns you, and the direct link between nutrition and career performance. p.s If you're loving our podcasts, Arden and I would love you even more if you leave us a review :)

Hi Amina! How would you define your occupation? Nourishment Expert, Healthy Business Coach.

What's your nationality / background? Half Welsh, Half Iraqi. What were you favorite and least favorite foods mom cooked for you as a child? Favorite: Bamya... It's an Arab dish made with okra and lamb in a tomato sauce.  That was my jam! Least favorite food: Anything with raisins.  Why not just eat grapes?!  I seriously didn't get them and used to tell my mom they "gave me a headache" so she wouldn't make me eat them.

What is your favorite healthy home-made recipe? I eat pretty simply at home and I'm a creature of habit so I like to make things I can eat for a few days at a time.  This time of year I like lots of soups and broths so I'm really into Red Lentil Bolognese.  It's gluten free, vegan and super delish (in my humble opinion) Ingredients 1 cup red lentils 4 ripe tomatoes, chopped 2 cloves of garlic 1/2 onion, chopped 1 carrot, shredded 4 celery stalks, diced 1 cup veggie broth 4 tbs sundried tomato powder (or tomato paste) 1 tbs oregano 1 tsp fennel seeds 1 tsp black pepper 1 tsp chipotle powder Salt & pepper to taste Instructions SautĂ© onions, garlic, celery, carrots and tomatoes in 1 tbsp of olive oil over medium heat until tender, about 5-10 minutes. Add veggie broth to pan along with lentils and remaining spices. Continue to cook over medium heat until lentils are soft, about 30-45 minutes. You may serve this dish over spaghetti squash, quinoa, brown rice or on its own. What are your "keep my sanity"’ essentials? I have at least 4 baths a week—they are so key to my sanity!  I'm also a Vedic meditator which really really helps in this busy city.  Also, working out 4-5 times a week is my sweet spot and those are major stress busters for me!

What was your favorite bonding activity you did with your mom as a child? We used to go on Sunday family hikes and those were always the best. I loved being out in nature with my parents and just running free.  Great times.

What has been the best beauty / health / wellness advice your mother has given you? Always wear sunscreen!  I have much more melanin than my Welsh mom—but I'm not immune to sun damage.  So, protecting my skin with hats, good quality sunscreen and a great skin care routine are clutch.

What is your non-negotiable self care routine or tool? Sleep is everything to me.  With two autoimmune diseases I try hard not to mess with it.   It's so key not only for a well-functioning brain but in my case it really impacts my digestion.   ---

Vienna what are your "keep my sanity"’ essentials? My sanity essentials are maintaining healthy relationships and prioritizing connection and togetherness with the people in my life. Almost every week I get a foot and body massage from this amazing hole in the wall massage place that is so restorative. Working out keeps my sanity, diffusing oils, keeping my home as a calm and soothing space, sleeping (friends, invest in your sleep space), and maintaining a sense of playfulness in each day.

What’s your favorite workout? Favorite workouts are boxing and The Class by Taryn Toomey. I do them both multiple times a week.

Your non-negotiable self care routine or tool? Being at peace with myself and others. It's the greatest routine in the world. Clear, healthy thoughts and choosing peace over suffering as often as I can. But that's probably not the answer you were expecting ;), so....self care where I don't negotiate: vitamins, evening routine that winds me down for the day -- give me an Image Skincare sheet mask every night of my life and I'm a happy camper (have you tried them?!) and some Tammy Fender lavender oil. I'm digging dry brushing and using a gua sha to release tension in my face and jaw! AND...SLEEP. I don't short change myself there. And finally what is the best beauty / health / wellness advise a parent or family member has given you? Sleep and water do wonders. Joy is what makes you beautiful.

25 Feb 2019EP11 "Be Who You Be" Amina AlTai00:48:10

Amina is a dear friend and mentor. Compassionate, sweet and wise she has the power of bringing to life any undertaking. On a mission to radically transform how we think about our work, Amina is in service as a business coach, speaker and wellness expert. She is the first social entrepreneur to successfully create a methodology which simultaneously supports the health of a business and its people.

A decade in marketing and brand management and a fast-paced career led Amina to two autoimmune diseases and complete burnout.  In hopes of healing her own life, she sought out training in nutrition, fitness and mindfulness and succeeded in regaining her health. This fueled her goal to teach others how to balance a thriving career with a healthy body and mind.

If you want to learn more about Amina and her coaching practice please visit her website aminaaltai.com or follow her on instagram @aminaaltai Amina’s Favorites: Lovely Amina what are your "keep my sanity"’ essentials? My sanity essentials vary depending on how much time I have. But on a good day,  I wake up early and meditate for 20-minutes (I’m a vedic meditator and have been trained with a specific vedic mantra).  I follow that up with a kundalini practice. After meditation, I move my body (usually a mix of yoga, pilates, HIIT and spin).  I find healthy movement to be so instrumental for me in processing emotion. I meditate again at 4pm for another 20 minutes.  I usually end the day with a candle and quiet with an early bedtime to boot. Honestly, nothing says self care and sanity to me like going to bed at 9:30pm :)

On a crazy day it looks like a whole lot less.  Meditation is my non-negotiable so I always start my day with 20 minutes and do my second sitting in the afternoon—sometimes later than I'd like. And on these more condensed days, I will take 5-minutes and do something that brings me joy.  Even if it’s just reading a magazine, coloring or watching Friends, I have to have that in there to stay sane.

What’s your favorite workout? Ahh, so many.  I love me some high intensity (for my high intensity Scorpio personality) and I used to be a spin teacher. My workouts are a mix of HIIT, spin, hot yoga and pilates.   What is your non-negotiable self care routine or tool?  Meditation.  That is the one thing I cannot do without.  Take away all my powders, adaptogens and practices, but me and meditation are for life.

What is the best beauty / health / wellness advise a parent or family member has given you? I was born with a lot of fire and energy and I have a tendency to push myself really hard. My mom is super chill and used to tell me ALL THE TIME in high school that I should take "mental health days."  I used to roll my eyes and be so annoyed at the suggestion of missing school (I was such a goodie goodie) but nowadays, I take them regularly.  We need them.  We need the opportunity to pause, recharge and reevaluate.  Nothing can come through when we are heads down and pushing all the time.

21 Mar 2019EP14 "Reclaiming Your Time" Natalie Kuhn00:53:46

Natalie Kuhn is a spark of light. As the Executive Vice President and Founding Teacher of The Class by Taryn Toomey, they’ve pioneered a new movement of spiritual fitness which uses physical conditioning to expand self awareness.

Natalie's background includes a BFA in performance from NYU with years of multi-disciplinary movement training including Suzuki, Viewpoints, Grotowski and Committed Impulse. Her Classes are athletic, vigorous, empowering, and suffused with her natural effervescence. She brings her students face-to-face with their own personal challenges; together, they sweat, they dig deep, and they come out energized — discovering how strong they are, mentally and physically.

During this intimate conversation we discuss ‘stopping’ as a key to self-care, how a good playlist is a wellness tool, and the importance of shifting to a state of conscious awareness in order to return to oneself. This was truly a treat, I love you Natalie!

You can find Natalie on Instagram @ThisIsNatalie , and on The Class’ website at TarynTommey.com to see her class schedule and incredible upcoming retreats. NATALIE’S FAVORITES: Natalie what are your “keep my sanity” essentials? I have developed a ritual for myself that transitions me out of work and into my personal space - both physically and otherwise. When I leave the office, I use the subway ride to finish up any last text, Slack, or email. Once I'm off the subway, I put my earbuds on, turn on a playlist that is specifically created to welcoming in a softer, more receptive me into being, and when I step into my apartment, I switch the music to the apartment speakers. I light a trillion candles, take a shower, and somewhere between the playlist, the candles, and the shower, I'm back in my feminine, receptive, soft, soothed self.

What’s your favorite workout or form of movement? Well, I suppose it's no surprise that The Class by Taryn Toomey is my favorite. I live it and breathe it. It is my vocation.  What is your non-negotiable self care routine or tool? Time in the calendar with my best girlfriends. We don't let our dinner or coffee date end without having the next one on the books.  What’s the best beauty/health/wellness advice a parent or family member has given you?

"Do what you need to do to feel prepared for what you're heading off into. Spend whatever time in the mirror as you see fit. But after you leave the house, be with the people you are with, stand in the place that you are, and don't give the mirror another glance." - My grandmama

01 Apr 2019EP15 "We're All Special" Jill Blakeway00:38:13

For this week’s episode I had the honor of sitting with Dr. Jill Blakeway to discuss her latest book “Energy Medicine: The Science and Mystery of Healing”.

Dr. Blakeway is a licensed and board certified acupuncturist and clinical herbalist. She’s the founder of Yinova, an alternative health clinic in New York City. She is the co-author of Making Babies: A Proven 3-Month Program for Maximum Fertility, and the author of Sex Again: Recharging your Libido.

In her new book she seamlessly connects the spiritual aspects and scientific facts of Healing Energy Work, how this tool is accessible to all, and it’s expansive Universal source. This book is written in a beautiful, thorough and honest way, and it is unique in it’s simplicity and warmth. I highly recommend it.

During our conversation Dr. Blakeway shares how her turbulent childhood enhanced her sensitivity to this energy, how she eventually found herself in this work, and a few simple techniques with which we can tap into it ourselves. Please listen in and enjoy. ps: This book literally fell off the shelf for me as they say - as I’ve been deep into studying the subject and have recently become certified as a Reiki 1 practitioner - I truly feel as though my teacher appeared.

“Energy Medicine: The Science and Mystery of Healing” comes out April 2nd (run, don’t walk to get your copy). You can also find Dr. Blakeway and her incredible team at yinovacenter.com JILL’S FAVORITES Dr. Blakeway what are your “keep my sanity” essentials? Breathing exercises. In my new book, Energy Medicine, I give an example of a breathing exercise that I use when treating patients. As part of my research for the book, I was given an EEG of my brain and an EKG of my heart, and found that they went into resonance with each other when I treated patients. That means that may brain and heart emit the same frequency when I am performing acupuncture. Interestingly, the patient’s heart then goes into resonance with mine. To accomplish this, I take 6 breaths a minute which increases my heart rate variability and allows me to adapt my body so that my energy field can connect with a patients field in a way that allows a transfer of information.  This slow regular breathing makes me feel calm and I also do it simply to remain clear and grounded.  What's your favorite workout or type of movement? Qi gong is an ancient technique that helps energy flow through the body. It perfectly balances yin and yang and allows qi to flow. It’s the perfect form of exercise for an energy healer. There is also a form of qi gong, called medical qi gong, where a practitioner uses the qi gong exercises to cultivate energy and then transmits the energy generated to a patient.  What’s your non-negotiable self-care ritual or tool? I’m British, so I love a cup of tea and find taking time to make and drink tea to be a calming ritual. When I was writing Energy Medicine, I spent a lot of time in Japan, where the ritual surrounding tea is an art form. Slowly sipping green tea from my favorite cup is a daily treat and the way I unwind.  What is the best beauty/health/wellness advice a parent or loved one has given you? My mother was an excellent cook and my father was a very good gardener. I used to host a weekly podcast for CBS called Grow Cook Heal that combined my love of growing vegetables, cooking nourishing food and wellness. I got that from my family and I’m grateful. These days my husband Noah and I have a vegetable garden in upstate New York and nothing gives me more pleasure than wandering down to the garden and picking what is ripe and ready to eat and cooking with it. It’s a way of letting the seasons guide my food choices.

21 Apr 2019EP16 "Beauty Is Wellness" Kerrilynn Pamer01:01:27

Happy birthday “High Vibrational Beauty”! In honoring this gorgeous holistic lifestyle guide I’m thrilled to share my conversation with Kerrilynn Pamer, it’s co-author, and co-founder and CEO of CAP Beauty. Kerrilynn’s first business, the boutique, Castor & Pollux, was a much-loved fixture in the West Village. In 2010 she introduced her customers to a small selection of naturals and watched the interest and love for this category grow. She decided at that point that New York City (and the world!) needed a store committed to natural beauty. Kerrilynn partnered with her longtime friend and collaborator, the photo stylist Cindy DiPrima Morisse, a perfect match as they had bonded for so long over their interest in healthful living. Kerrilynn and I became friends over Instagram (yes, it’s a thing) and upon meeting felt as though we had met many times before.

Her radiance is palpable, she truly walks her talk and is the embodiment of a modern ethereal being. Please listen in on this inspiring conversation from which I walked away vibing high, and listen to my interview with Cindy for the full experience.

KERRILYNN’S FAVORITES Kerrilynn what are your "keep my sanity"’ essentials?  Spending time with my husband and dogs. Espresso in the morning, The 4 PM blend in the afternoon. Saturday yoga class at Kula. Healthy food in the fridge and cupboards. Daily Kundalini. Daily TM.

What’s your Favorite workout or form of movement? I adore the Saturday class at Kula with Jillian Turecki. A favorite moment during the week.

What is your non-negotiable self care ritual or tool? I've been exploring the idea of having no "non-negotiables". It was creating a rigidity that I wasn't comfortable with, so these days I'm making efforts to just do what makes me feel good without the "should" wrapped around it. It's working for me.

What is the best beauty / health / wellness advise a parent or loved one has ever given you? My Dad told me to never give up, and keep moving forward. That's a pretty good one.  A simple beauty ritual / recipe / tonic you’d like to share with listeners. The CAP Beauty Matcha mixed with our Coconut Butter, some seed milk that my husband makes (his is the best!), turmeric and some tocotrienols served warm with bee pollen on top. A favorite.

21 Apr 2019EP17 "Wellness Is Beauty" Cindy DiPrima00:57:14

Happy Spring friends! I’m excited to bring you my conversation with Cindy DiPrima, Co-Founder and Creative Director of CAP beauty and co-author of “High Vibrational Beauty”.

Known for her intelligent and elevated approach to style, Cindy has contributed to Harper’s Bazaar, Domino, and Town & Country among other publications and ad campaigns. As two style-obsessed friends, she and Kerrilynn Pamer dreamed of building a store that was as inspiring as it was pure in it’s mission.

While sitting with Cindy you can’t help but notice her deep and wise glow. During this insightful chat she shares how their common love for cooking, elevated entertaining and passion for wellness guided her and Kerrilynn to birth their ever inspiring brand. These women have not only defined what we know as “clean beauty”, they’ve brought to light to their community (and the world!) that what we put on our bodies is as important - and of substance - as we what put in it.

For the full experience please listen to my interview with Kerrilynn. CINDY’S FAVORITES Cindy what are your "keep my sanity"’ essentials?  Green juice. Following a plant-based and food combining diet. Running. Yoga. Phone-free time with my kids (still working on this one! the camera is my weakness!). Cooking for family and friends What’s your favorite workout or form of movement? Yoga is really my go-to. I’ve done lots of types and am now in a phase of loving hot yoga. The heat and sweat are both so therapeutic and really keep me well and my body has never been stronger. I don’t practice Bikram but go to a looser style class at Modo.

I also love running and love that this is something I can do with my husband. I’m not fast or distance driven. I just really like the workout.  What is your non-negotiable self care ritual or tool? Gravity colonics with Gil Jacobs in NYC.  What is the best beauty / health / wellness advise a parent or loved one has ever given you? My parents are and were healthy in a very mainstream sort of way, not radical and very respectful of the advice of doctors and Western medicine in general. I veer more to the left of that! But I am very grateful that my parents always questioned the over-use of antibiotics. I was raised not to take them unless absolutely necessary. THAT is advice for the ages. A simple beauty ritual / recipe / tonic you’d like to share with listeners. Bedtime tonic This is a great way to end the day and promotes deep, easy sleep and restoration: 1/2 teaspoon CAP Beauty’s The 10PM 1 to 2 teaspoons CAP’s The Coconut Butter (or more to taste! It’s crazy delicious.) 1 tablespoon Dandy Blend (optional) 6 ounces hot water Splash of homemade nut, seed or oat milk Put all ingredients in a blender and run on high until mixed and frothy. Or put all ingredients your favorite mug and mix with an aero latte.

20 May 2019EP20 "Honoring The Inner Child " Liza Fenster00:56:58

Welcome to one of the most heart felt, humbling, vulnerable and powerful conversation we’ve had on The Live Journal Podcast, as Liza Fenster - a woman whom I adore and admire - shares her life experiences, and how the hardships faced during childhood and teenage hood shaped the healing conduit she is today.

Liza is a NY based Reiki Master Teacher and Tarot reader that works under the moniker of Crow Mother. She offers a combined 20 years of study and experience in service to a local and global community, and it is her highest honor to do so.

I’ve had the pleasure of getting to know Liza this past year, and did Reiki I training with her guidance. Listen in, get inspired, feel the love, and If you’d like to know more about her services you please go to thecrowmother.com , or @crow..mother on Instagram. LIZA’S FAVORITES My “keep my sanity” essentials are pretty simple but I cherish them so much! I love to get a few minutes of alone time in the morning when I walk our dog to get coffee while my husband gets our son up and sorted. I have a daily mantra meditation practice that has become meaningful and grounding, and I also reaaallllyyyy love to go to Great Jones Spa for a soak and a facial every month or two.  My non negotiable self care tool is the very necessary act of literally unplugging for a bit a bit at the end of the day. It absolutely “saves me” to be in a quiet house with no noise, no tv or phone, low lights and little to no talking. It’s not all evening, but there is usually at least an hour or so when I make this possible.  My favorite form of movement is yoga, specifically the Katonah practice. I’m a Vata dosha, so it’s not advisable for me to do lots of high impact activity (I *am* a high impact activity) and this study of yoga helps my body stretch and strengthen, while also cooling my mind.  The best advice I think I’ve gotten from someone is from a mentor I had a long time ago. She often reminded me to just “be where my feet are” and that “what was for me, would always be for me” and when I can really practice that, so much energy is freed up to just BE, instead of worrying what else I should be doing or worrying about what other people are doing. It reminds to stay in my lane. And when I do that, beautiful things happen.  In Light, Liza Fenster

18 Jul 2019EP22 "A Refined Foundation" Kymberly Kelly00:39:16

Kymberly Kelly M.S., L.Ac. is an acupuncturist and herbalist practicing in New York City for the past 15 years.

She specializes in women’s health and fertility, and also sees general conditions such as anxiety, digestive problems, pain, headaches, allergies, insomnia and immune issues.

I met Kymberly 8 or 9 years ago, as I was seeking support in staying pregnant... Following a series of miscarriages I took a multi-prong approach and integrated Eastern and Western medicine into my protocol, she was a key player in my wellness tribe. Kymberly is the sweet and warm, and I swear she has magic hands!

After finishing college and living in South America for a few years, she returned to the States to study Chinese Medicine, and completed her studies in California before moving to New York and starting her practice.

When she’s not working in the clinic, you can find her in the mountains doing some trail riding or sitting under a shady tree, pretending to read a book.

For appointments and please visit her website renwellness.com, and for great seasonal practical advice please visit Kymberly’s blog. KYMBERLY’S FAVORITES Keep my sanity essentials: English Breakfast Tea, Comfy Pajamas, InstaPups Videos, Comedy podcasts or watching standup comedy. These things either are comforting or make me laugh! Favorite workout is definitely trail riding on my bike! But when I can’t get out of the city, I go to the pilates studio in my neighborhood for reformer classes.

Non-negotiable self care ritual is Acupuncture of course! I do body treatments to keep myself healthy and Cosmetic acupuncture to keep my skin looking good! I also make sleep a priority.   (It’s almost a joke with people who know me!) You can fall into a rut of skimping on an hour here or there when things get busy, but I really make time for it and put it into my schedule like any thing else.   I find that if I get enough sleep and get regular acupuncture tune-ups, my body runs well, I almost never get sick, and feel good overall.

Family advice
My parents have always taken very good care of themselves. Before it was trendy, my mother was very aware of the importance of healthy food and both of my parents have exercised regularly their whole lives- and it shows! They are in such great health! They have plenty of energy to do the things they want, they aren’t on any medications and are generally vibrant, happy people. It’s something to aspire to!

04 Aug 2019EP24 "The Simpler, The Better" Nicole Berrie00:44:19

Nicole Berrie’s career first began in the fashion industry at Elle Magazine and later as associate features editor at Vanity Fair. Seeking to find a bridge between her personal interest in healing and wellness and a high-end editorial concept, Berrie founded bonberi.com in 2013 featuring the wellness regimens of designers, models, chefs, influencers, along with her original plant-based recipes. In September 2018 she opened Bonberi on Bleecker, a plant-based cafe in New York’s West Village featuring grab-and-go vegan dishes and an array of juices and smoothies, as well as a curated selection of holistic, non-toxic retail. During our conversation Nicole shares her experience in transitioning into a plant-based and food-combining lifestyle, and how taking this path has allowed her to thrive as a mother of two, and a pioneering wellness advocate. You can find Nicole on Instagram @bonberi, in her beautiful shop on 384 Bleeker, and all her abundance of delicious recipes live on her website bonberi.com

11 Aug 2019EP25 "The Smallest Moments" Jackie Courtney00:49:50

Jackie Courtney is the founder of Nearly Newlywed, the online destination where millions of women worldwide discover, shop and sell new and preowned wedding dresses, engagement rings, jewelry & accessories.

Formerly a fashion publicist and digital strategist, Jackie started her business out of a personal need, in 2012 (out of her bedroom)... As she was preparing to marry she wanted to wear the dress of her dreams without having to pay the hefty price tag - and Nearly Newlywed was born.

We became Instagram friends and I her biggest fan: her sparkly style, grounded personality and glimpses into her adventures in motherhood - and how she keeps an “attitude of gratitude” through it all- are ever inspiring. Jackie currently lives in Brooklyn with her husband Patrick and their two year old son Ryan (the cutest happiest dancer), and loves dresses, sequins, prints, sneakers and a good belly laugh. You can follow her on Instagram @jac_courtney and @nearlynewlywed

Also in this episode I continue our conversation on emotions and attachments to food, and share a few science based facts on how these occur - and how to work on de-coding them. Please continue to email your questions to paola@paolaatlason.live, lets keep sharing our stories!

18 Aug 2019EP26 "Overriding The Burn" Naomi00:49:51

An uplifting, revealing and raw conversation with the incredibly radiant Charanpal Kaur - Kundalini yoga teacher and renown chant artist. She shares with us how Kundalini found her, the beauty, power and immediate effect of the practice, and how music and mantra are a universal healing light.

It was a dream speaking with Naomi. I’ve been a fan of her music for quite some time (Sat Siri Siri Akal is my favorite mantra song), so learning that we had a similar “wild” youth and are now reformed souls confirms there’s a deep common thread between us all. We also go deep in discussing the connection between human and planetary prana and all that intergalactic goodness - but you must listen in for those good bits ;)

Naomi’s voice is incredibly powerful, so much so you can feel it’s vibration in this audio. With three mantra albums to date, her last two releases, Jala (2017), and Aeons (2015), made it to #3 and #4 on the iTunes music charts. Charanpal is also a featured teacher for two international online yoga communities; Kundalini Lounge (London, UK) and Kundalini Live (Monterrey, CA). Yogis around the globe practice with Charanpal via her viral Youtube classes, such as The Keep Up Spirit.

Stay tuned after the interview, where I dive deeper into the subject of “Ritual vs Attachment”, and guide you in turning the attention inward to support you in uncovering emotional ties. Please continue sending your questions to paola@paolaatlason.live - the conversation keeps getting deeper with your participation!

NAOMI’S FAVORITES Her "keep my sanity"’ essentials: Nature time, stretching my body, and getting plenty of sleep! Her favorite workout: I love hiking in the woods here in Santa Cruz. The mixture of prana and cardio is invigorating. If you don't live in the woods, just get outdoors and get your heart pumping. It's so enlivening. Non-negotiable self care routine or tool? Exfoliating my face followed by rosehip night cream. Also, some sort of spinal flexation on the daily. Cat / Cow, or a Kundalini spinal flex work great and they are a non-negotiable part of my day so that I feel I am awake and ready for anything. Best beauty / health / wellness advise your mom has given you? Oh goodness. Hmmm, I was going to say retail therapy! My mom taught me how to hunt for a good deal. Haha! But, more accurately, my mom instilled in me the value of having a clean and organized house. She taught me that clutter is nauseating and that going to sleep with a messy home is less than ideal. I'm nowhere near as regimented as she is, but I do resonate with the fact that self-care includes caring for our immediate environments. You can find Charanpal on her website charanpalmusic.com and on Instagram @akalstars

25 Aug 2019EP27 “It Takes A Village” Dale Moore00:42:12

Dale Moore is an Earth Advocate. She mothers Herbal and Fungal Allies from seed to medicine in her near Zero-waste Home in Brooklyn. We met earlier this year and immediately connected, when a simple hello turned into an incredibly deep and spiritual conversation.

She grows her own food in her backyard and the front of her apartment hosts a studio where she channels Animals, Spirit, Poetry and Energy. Dale calls upon elemental, galactic and ReikiEnergies to inspire balance, growth and peace as she facilitates reconnection to power, to earth; to Self.

During this conversation we discuss the importance of daily homework as a form of reflection, her mission to get people to incorporate healing into their everyday lives, and how moon rituals and simple rest keep her afloat.

PS: Did you know New Hartford Connecticut  is considered a portal?

DALE’S MOON RITUAL Because the airdate is 5 days before a New Moon I want to recommend an introspective blend of Herbs to foster diving deep within ones self to embrace our Shadow work. The Full Moon is about interpersonal relationships and the New Moon is about reflection to plant a Seed that will grow with the pull of the Moon as it waxes Full.  Cacao Lun Ingredients: Cacao, Mugwort, Fennel, Licorice Best enjoyed after Lunch! Cacao is Heart Medicine - my favorite Brand to use is Cacao Lab - a Brother and SIster who serve as a true voice for the People and Land the Medicine comes from.  Cacao is the base, to be finely chopped and blent with the following Herbal Tea base: Steap Mugwort and Licorice in simmering Water for a minimum of 20 minutes in portions 2:1 Add a pinch of Cayenne (to your heat discretion!) Mugwort (which I forage locally) promotes dreaming, activity of the Penial Gland and is also known to reduce anxiety and depression.  Licorice is a sweetener but also a Powerful Demulcent Herb.  And the Activator is Cayenne, which we use to pull the Energy down from the Universe and circulating it around the Body to support deep introspection in this lower Chakra work.

01 Sep 2019EP28 "No One Is Your Project" Tina Essmaker00:43:21

My guest today is Tina Essmaker. She’s a dear friend, a writer, and she coaches creative professionals through career road blocks. Tina is quite honestly a breath of fresh air. I met her a handful of years ago as a very close family friend’s “new girlfriend”. What was meant to be a “does she pass the test?” scenario turned to be a bonding and long lasting conversation, one which I feel continues to this day.

Before this faithful encounter, and years before she came into the family, Tina was in a long term relationship which ended abruptly and without warning. This tailspin set her on a new self discovery path, a long journey in which she found herself, and discovered a passion and talent which would have otherwise remained hidden.

Tina equips the creative community to move beyond inspiration into action. She is cofounder and former Editor in Chief of The Great Discontent magazine for which she interviewed more than 250 creators. Her decade-long background in social work combined with her expertise in themes that dot the creative landscape are the foundation of her coaching practice working with individuals and teams across creative industries.

Listen in as we discuss how journaling is a wonderful tool for shutting out the noise and in getting stuff OUT of your head - and how this simple practice supports you in accepting and best handling your reality. Tina believes we’re all here, on this planet,  to add value to the world, and that we need people on our team to guide, encourage and support our endeavors.

For today’s Beating the Monday Blues homework, I encourage you to get inspired by this touching story and to stay open when times are shifting. We tend to subscribe to a lifestyle or a routine or a schedule - and when life throws us a curve ball at us we tend to drop it ALL.  What are the things you value most? What is important to you in YOUR  life? Are YOU part of the equation? What are your non-negotiable moments of care? Is your personal time blocked off in your calendar? Ask yourself these questions. List your needs out on a piece of paper, pick the most important ones, and add them to your calendar with a flexible structure.

A simple technique I use and recommend in my practice is to treat your calendar as your BEST friend. I take half an hour on Sunday’s to look at it. I asses what’s coming up for the week, and call in feelings of gratitude for the times I’m BUSY -  as much as I feel grateful when times are slower. I make sure my movement routine, my meditation practice and at least one coffee with a friend are blocked times in there, and If I can treat myself to something special - like a massage on a Friday every few weeks - that gets blocked as well. I observe how work and family time will compliment each other, and I make sure they do not overlap - But when they do (because life is life) I keep an open mind and adjust accordingly, looking to maintain the awareness of being in the moment when interacting with my children, my husband and my clients.

Thank you for tuning in today, I look forward to your feedback, keep sending in your questions and
. Enjoy today’s ride! With Love and Gratitude

08 Sep 2019EP29 "Big Magic" Amber Berger00:37:46

After suffering from Crohn’s Disease as a child, Amber set out to empower her kids to take charge of their health in order to feel their best. As a mother of 2, Salthaus was born due to a lack of places to engage in wellness together with her family. Amber discovered Halotherapy and wanted to share her mission ‘wellness together’ with the world by redefining wellness, making it social, fun and available to all ages.

During our conversation we discuss how when looking for a creative outlet she found her idea, and it was as if striking a water pipe with a pick - it never stopped flowing. We also talk about the importance of believing and following signs and omens when they present themselves to you, and how we should include children in the wellness conversation, in order to teach them how to create healthy rituals beginning at a young age.

This conversation inspired me to seek more creativity in my personal life, it doesn’t only belong to to artist or people in creative arenas - you can be creative in simply planning your day. For me this translates into being more creative in how I spend time with friends and participating in new activities which do not involve drinking - Salthaus anyone?

You can learn more about Salthaus and book appointments on their website, and on instagram @salthausNY

15 Sep 2019EP30 "Live Your Truth" Christina Caruso00:47:55

Christina Caruso is the Jerry to my Bianca . A true friend I made in adulthood, getting to know each other as we sat at arms length - face to face - at work for over a year. This happened what feels like a lifetime ago, and as our friendship continues to blossom I cannot help but admire her even more. Christina is a mother, a loyal sister, a wife and daughter - and in her work life a fashion Creative Director, and the co-founder of AWE NYC an initiative that brings women together with the purpose of connection.

During this chat we discuss motherhood and it’s joys and stresses, how women are made to believe we have to choose ONE path in life and stick with it (ummm no), and how transitioning from career to home life and back to the work force can be a bumpy yet refreshing and rewarding road. You can learn more about Christina on her website www.christinacaruso.com or Instagram @christinacarusostyle

I hope this conversation inspires you to reflect on how your life is evolving at this moment. Do you feel as though YOU are in charge of it, or is it dragging you around? Would you take a moment of your busy day to journal your concerns and outline the thoughts surrounding them - so you that you can truly choose which are valid,  and which to discard?

*JOURNALING EXERCISE: Take a few minutes to sit in silence and breath. In your mind raise the statement “I am concerned with
“ and write down what comes to the surface in your journal or piece of paper. Once you’ve written this statement, list all other thoughts that come to mind in it’s relation, in the following format “I worry that
..”. Once you’ve listed all of these thoughts label them as either a TRUTH (a true fact), an ATTACKING THOUGHT ON YOURSELF (negative beliefs or mean words you use to refer to yourself) or a LIMITING BELIEF (something you believe to be true even though you know it’s not). Once you’ve labeled each one, contemplate which proactive action steps need to be taken to resolve your TRUTHS, turn the conversation around on your ATTACKING THOUGHTS by writing true and valid positive statements that prove them wrong, and go deeper in analyzing where your LIMITING BELIEFS stem from (either in childhood or other times of your life where these were settled in you) and begin to break them apart. If you need support with this exercise please reach out, you can always schedule a free 15min phone consultation and I will gladly walk you through. *adapted from “A Course in Miracles”

22 Sep 2019EP31 "Daily Rituals" Jenn Tardif00:32:42

JENN’S FAVORITES A favorite ritual she’d like to share with the audience: Trataka Her non-negotiable self care ritual or routine: “As an antidote to anxiety I place great emphasis on putting myself to bed.

29 Sep 2019EP32 "On Self Worth" Jourdan Ash00:42:19

One of the most important, if not THE most important item to keep in check is your self worth. I was fortunate enough to have a mother, a stepdad and grandparents who believed in me - and always reminded me that I could do whatever I set my mind to -a tool which shaped me, and got me through many difficult yet luckily not detrimental moments in life.

My motto has always been “if I don’t know the job I’ll learn it”, words which I still default to today. But I did lose my sense of self worth along the way.... And how? Was it internal or external forces that dissolved it? Was it my own wounded ego or that of others? For many years it seems I was rolling through life, measuring my value in financial gains, and along the way letting my true self go.

A few years ago I stood up. As I began walking my true path. I was reminded in mysterious ways that simply being is enough. Now I walk in integrity and clear in my purpose - but this took a while. Meeting Jourdan Ash reminded me of the strength I had as a young woman. Her presence is regal. Intelligent and dark humored - her confidence is inspiring. I was humbled during our conversation, she’s very clear on her worth, she doesn’t take BS from anything or anyone, and she’s able to manifest what she wants and clearly detect what is a test.

Known on Rihanna's internet as LifewithJRDN, she’s a New York based writer with words in Complex, Pitchfork, her own blog, LifeWithJRDN.com and more. When she's not behind the pen, she's hosting, editing and curating her bi-weekly show, Dating in NYC: The Podcast, an hourly show that focuses on the many lessons in love, sex and dating as told by creatives of color.

On this New Moon I leave you with an exercise in introspection
Find a quite moment and ask yourself this or journal it if inspired: Are you in alignment with your self worth? Are your values based on your core beliefs or on other’s expectations? How do you want to feel? What do you want?

JOURDAN’S FAVORITES Favorite beauty ritual: My favorite beauty ritual is oiling my cuticles! My nail artist always tells me that the hands are the first things to show age. So a few times a day, I take a moment to oil my cuticles. It's a mini moment in my day that helps me to pause and remember to think about myself.

Favorite wellness tip: My favorite wellness tip is to get up. I recently started taking classes, that I love. But the hardest thing for me to do is to get up to actually go. To encourage myself, I try to remind myself how proud I feel when I make it to class and how great I feel afterwards. The feeling alone is all the encouragement I need.

06 Oct 2019EP33 "Food As Medicine" Josefiene Smet00:37:15

Fall is a season for change, for shedding layers and releasing. For me this is a welcome shift, but I must admit it can sometimes be quite uncomfortable. Healing is not linear. it’s easy to believe that once on a journey of self discovery breakthroughs are always pleasant. The key here is to stay the course, celebrating the highs and nurturing ourselves though the lows, knowing that the only way through.. is through. It’s important to feel all the feelings, touch them and digest them in order to understand them. Once you know what the conversations in your head are - you can best work with them rather than against them.

For today’s conversation I sat with Josefien Smet of @yosogreen, she’s brilliant and beautifully humble and a plant based chef  who’s healed herself through the  power of foods.  Our conversation has inspired me to dig even deeper and try out new things, it ignited curiosity and has set me on a path of playing with new herbs and mystical mushrooms. Josefien iresides in Leuven, Belgium. She creates functional food with a focus on self-care - because food IS selfcare. Her culinary journey started as a blog, YOSOGREEN and she now works as a freelance chef and recipe developer.

The idea of YOSOGREEN as a brand came into fruition during her culinary education at PlantLab in Los Angeles, where she felt hugely inspired by the food culture. Upon her return to Belgium, she founded the company with the aim of creating food that should be regarded as an extension to your personal self-care: functional food!

And how do you see your food? Is it nurturing? Does it support you and your body? Does it make you feel calm or energized when you need to? Or are you in a muddy space of reward and punishment
good and bad.. of all or nothing? Today I encourage you to pause and take account of how you feel and consider which practices you can put in place to support you on your journey.
Can you take a few minutes on Sunday or during your daily commute to write down how you WANT to feel, then assign one or two action steps you need to take to achieve these
Start with simple tasks and build from there, and if you need support - seek it - there’s a village waiting for you out there

JOSEFIEN’S FAVORITES Self Care Ritual: My favorite selfcare ritual is waking up early! It's my personal time where I stay quit and have an hour of me-time. I wake up early, do some breathing excercises and set my intentions for the day. I walk around in a bathrobe and make myself a chagacchino. Next I play with my dog.

Recipe: Mushroom dust Ingredients 1 cup almonds (I love to reuse dehydrated almond meal) 1/4 cup sesame seeds 2 tablespoons nutritional yeast 1 teaspoons cordyceps extract powder 1 teaspoon Himalaya salt How to: Blend in foodprocessor until powdered + Add in any dried herb you like How to use: Use as a topping for stir fries, asian dishes, pasta or salads

13 Oct 2019EP34 "Mothering The Self" Zivar Amrami00:36:35

Zivar is an artist, a mother, a wife, a free spirit.. a woman! Her energy is ever expanding and since crossing paths I’ve been intrigued by her. She’s helped me heal in so many ways, and given me subtle guidance in turning the attention inward once again. During today’s episode we had a deep discussion regarding our thoughts on self mothering, on love and on the importance of being present.

Zivar is devoted to healing our collective and personal wounds through community, the Divine Feminine, creativity and embodiment practices. She is currently working on a film, writing a book on Kabbalah and the moon, and lectures often on the art of visual storytelling. She also works with select clients in photography, branding, visual storytelling, and content creation. As humans we have the ability to regulate our physiology through moving, breathing and touching. By creating a safe environment for ourselves and others we are able to heal. It’s time to reparent, to mother the self and be the one you always needed. Let’s heal together.

ZIVAR’S FAVORITES Ritual, before bed or as you wake: Lay on your back with soles of feet on ground and knees up. Pour oil on your abdomen, into your belly button. I use Castor Oil with a bit of Clary Sage, you can use whatever feels most nurturing to you. Place one hand or both hands on gut. Begin to massage the oil into your abdomen in a counter-clockwise motion. One hand following the other. Be slow about it, deliberate and loving. Begin to say to yourself outloud -- I realse the need to ___ (control, be distracted, fear, hide), I release the need to ____ (another thing), etc. Allow yourself to release whatever big or seemingly small things have been disrupting the flow your gut, your intuitive knowing. Do this for a few minutes and then rest one hand on your gut, another on your heart. Breathe in and out three times, reminding your soul that your body is a safe and beautiful place to rest. Ritual especially helpful in moments of constipation (both emotional and physical).

Non-Negotiable Self-Care: Sex with my husband. I always feel so good, embodied and deeply seen through this act. I also find it incredibly healing, to feel so safe and experience pleasure in my body, as a survivor of sexual trauma. It helps that I am married to a Scorpio ;)

You may find Zivar by visiting zivaramrami.com or @altarofstories for latest images & reflection. She also leads Moon Ceremony, host Breathwork and Grief Circles, and lecture often at the Public Theatre on creativity and visual storytelling. Email me at yzamrami@gmail.com to learn more about in-person events and upcoming projects. She’s always up for a good collaboration.

20 Oct 2019EP35 "Once You Know Better..." Lara Pitkowsky00:37:55

One of the many things I admire about Lara Pitkowsky is her presence, this woman always shows up... while leading one the most challenging of workouts she presents herself fully, uplifting even the grumpiest of students. Her smile is like sunshine, she commands the room and infuses it with cheer, and once you know her story it makes her delivery even more admirable.

And what does “showing up” mean? To me it’s doing what I promised to do for myself and others with integrity and in congruity with the responsibility I signed up for. Let’s face it, sometimes I don’t feel like doing something I signed up for
but I remind myself of why I did and how I will feel once I reach that goal - and that in itself is my motivation. Choosing the right foods for my body, committing to daily movement, my meditation practice, having structure in my sleep routine, relying on stress management techniques like journaling
these have all been the “long road” in my healing journey - but it’s been more than worth it. I took the easy way out for decades and it always landed me back in the same stale place. They key for me is consistency, creating habits one baby step at a time, and letting them stick and continue to add until I have a robust self-care toolbox I can rely on. Like Maya Angelou said “once you know better, you do better”.

LARA’S FAVORITES Favorite Ritual: Rolling my feet out. I keep a yoga ball on my bathroom floor and every morning (even those 4am days) I roll my feet out as I brush my teeth to unleash a sense of groundedness as I begin the day. Non-negotiable self care: One day a week where I do not set an alarm. As a super type-A personality I can, and have, run myself into burn out if I do not consciously take moments to actively do nothing and purposely sleep-in. Some weeks this is easier than others, and sometimes I still get up at 6am, but it’s natural not abrupt.

Lara recently transitioned from a professional dancer in Los Angeles to a New York City based Integrated Wellness Coach, and strong advocate for holistic healing. She launched exhiLARAted wellness as a result of personal health (Auto Immune/Thyroid) complications and her triumph over them. While Lara loved dancing for artists like Demi Lovato, Paula Abdul, Panic! At The Disco, and Gryffin, the fulfillment of facilitating exuberant vitality in clients far surpasses the later.

When Lara is not coaching clients, writing for her blog exhiLARAtedwellness.com, or running around the city to discover new wellness spots, you can find her every morning teaching at the Tracy Anderson Method. With a burning aspiration for connection and positive energy exchange, Lara is enthusiastic about sharing her story and holding the space for others to communicate openly about women’s health, hormone balance, autoimmunity, sexual wellness and everything in between. 27 Oct 2019EP36 “Aging Timelessly” Michelle Aspinwall00:42:11

Michelle Aspinwall is a wise woman, a soul who’s lived many lives and in each one cared for others. We started our conversation with laughter -  as old friends would - something that reaffirms we’ve crossed paths before in a previous incarnation.

During this conversation we discuss how Michelle supports women in aging timelessly. Age builds character, life experiences can harden you but they can also soften you, allowing you to set into yourself confidently and comfortably.

There’s something magical that happens to a woman entering her 40’s, her version of femininity shifts as hormones fluctuate, and most times than not it can be a little scary.  As Michelle describes it: placing positive awareness on this change  and transferring the fire we still own are pivotal in honoring the end of an era, and celebrating the beginning of a new one... life / death / rebirth... Repeat.

ABOUT MICHELLE Michelle Aspinwall, health advisor and creator/CEO of A Skin, has studied principles of Ayurveda, traditional Chinese medicine, and herbal therapies. Central to her approach to women’s health is an attitude toward aging which helps her clients unapologetically reimagine the unfolding of their lives. In addition to her skincare line, Michelle is a hormonal health coach. She works with women all over the world, combining Eastern healing methods with the precision of Western science and specialized testing. A Skin is a bespoke skincare line, created to align women and their skin with the seasons. The line launches four times a year on the equinox or solstice. Its products and their ingredients consist solely of botanicals, herbs, oils, and butters.

A favorite ritual: Washing my face every night and applying botanicals that soothe my soul.

Sharing with community: She’s happy to offer my 90 minute blueprint session at a special rate to podcast listeners, please email for details and discount code.

In addition, using seeds for hormone balance can help women in their 20's, 30's, 40's and post menopausal women with hormonal symptoms. These 2 recipes are her delicious contribution to seed cycling: Dukka Pumpkin seed butter You can learn more about Michelle on her website michelleaspinwall.com and Instagram @michellepaspinwall , and you can contact her at Michelle.aspinwall@gmail.com.

03 Nov 2019EP37 "A Healing Journey" Caroline Rasmussen00:32:48

Caroline Rasmussen is in service, shining a light on the deep connection between our body, our brain and our consciousness. After a family experience challenged her to reconsider the career path she was in, she turned her life in a completely different direction, and through her own healing journey was compelled to support others.

This is a familiar story, where a person sitting comfortably in a place where they know they’re not in alignment with - but it’s oh so easy to remain in - gets their bottom handed to them by the universe, and gets kicked out of this once stale course. You see there’s no tricking our destiny, no clouding of our true path on this lifetime. Once the calling begins you’ll try your hardest to muffle it, but rest assured you’ll somehow, at some point - hop on.

Mind, body, spirit = oneness. I used to think of myself as a solid block of a human being, seeing my feelings and emotions as one dimensional and not really observing what they meant. Once I hit rock bottom and got spit out of my outdated course as well, I felt walls I had built around me crumble, and saw them slowly disintegrate through the work I was doing with myself -  and thankfully - the support of others.

There are my parts Of me within me - the excited little girl that sees the world as a playground full of opportunity, she has no fear
theres also the 12 year old me, her world crumbling, and for the first time a sense of NOT belonging. There’s the rebel, who once she found her freedom threw all care to the wind - and of course the brat, who wants what she wants, when she wants it - even if it’s not the best of routes. But who’s in charge here? Well its ME, the mother, caring for all of these parts, holding them close, soothing them gently, Kindly guiding them and honoring their needs.

I encourage you to listen to the voices in your head (yes there are several in there don’t be scared), and ask them “what do you need”? You can do this out loud if you prefer, or pen to paper may be what you need. Once you get familiar with all of the parts of you that want to truly LIVR, you can make peace within and begin to.. yes, heal.

ABOUT CAROLINE Founder Caroline Rasmussen's journey to creating Antara is truly inspiring; after her father's heartbreaking diagnosis of early-onset dementia and Parkinson’s, she was moved to quit her toxic Wall Street job and revisit her journey.

After relying for years on cigarettes, coffee, and other crutches to get through a cloud of anxiety and fatigue, Caroline set out to do everything she could to maintain her brain and cognitive function for the long term. This lead to her training in herbal medicine and meditation, and she later began to delve into the science of neurological health and degeneration.

Through this research, she learned about the damaging effects of inflammation and stress on the brain - it turns out her burnout had not only been emotionally unpleasant, but had been actively undermining her brain function. This journey ultimately lead to the launch of Antara: products that marry both Western and Eastern philosophies in order to support brain health in a truly holistic and effective way. The formulas use centuries-old plant medicines known to enhance the health of the mind, and then amplify their effects with modern bioavailability technology.

Caroline is now a trained herbalist and member of the International Association of Counselors and Therapists focusing on meditation training, cognitive neuroscience and hypnosis.

A FAVORITE RITUAL Meditation every morning - it keeps my emotions balanced and is my antidote to the mentality of always doing and having more that we're surrounding with in the city.

10 Nov 2019EP38 "Life, Death, Rebirth" Maryam Ayaji00:47:48

Maryam Ajayi is a healer and an advocate for inclusivity in the Wellness space. With a background in political lobbying, in the midst of her career she felt the calling to support humanity in a very different way - by returning to the roots of healing. Her work is honorable, her voice strong, her presence empowering, making her a true leader for us all.

And how does one suddenly feel the need to change careers - or pivot as they say - so unexpectedly? Having been in that position myself I can tell you, once you know - you know. I used to believe (even though I fought it every day) that I had to “choose” who I wanted to be and that I was to stick with that for the rest of my days
 It all began in childhood
“so what do you want to be when you grow up?” I remember having at least 10 desires at a time: I wanted to be a chef, a ballerina, an astronaut, a teacher, a painter, and sometimes a mom. “Well no but which one?’ They’d ask.. “you have to choose ONE”.

By the time I was headed to college nothing entertained me, I didn’t know what I wanted to be, but I sure knew what I didn’t want. Lucky for me I discovered Art - a field of study where at least I felt I could be free. Throughout life I navigated this path in many of it’s iterations: as an illustrator, a retoucher, a graphic designer and finally as a fashion creative. As I got better and better I climbed that ladder, never feeling completely fulfilled, and one day the universe kicked back. As I hit a wall and picked myself up, piece by piece I had to put myself together and in doing so - as Maryam did - set off to help others as well.

If and when you feel your calling, pay attention, that time means NOW. Always trust your intuition, listen to that voice within, the one you could clearly hear as a child
It’s still the same, and it was always right.

ABOUT MARYAM Maryam Ajayi is an energy healer, who practices both Reiki and Breathwork and entrepreneur with +10 years of experience across a multitude of industries ranging from politics to tech. She is passionate about de-stigmatizing the wellness industry, advocating for inclusive spaces for marginalized communities, and using her voice to empower and uplift others around the world. Recently, she founded Indagba, a company that helps socially conscious people and companies grow into their full potential through mindful business strategy, as well as Diversity in Wellness (DIW),  a community of diverse and inclusive leaders within the industry that gathers for an open dialogue and discussion in order to create a plan of action for bringing more diversity to the wellness industry. Maryam and her work have been featured in Goop, The Sunday Times, The Cut, Holisticism, Thirlby, and The Nod and she has worked with brands such as Nike Women, The Wing, General Assembly, Lululemon, The Girl Mob, and Sad Girls Club.

A FAVORITE RITUAL Write a love letter to the future you. Perhaps start with you 3 months from now. Thank the future you for everything they did to get you to where you are at in the future and tell them everything you love about them and the life they have created and dreams they made come true. Date it and tuck it away in a special place for you to read.

NON-NEGOTIABLES Dating myself. Spending a night in alone making myself dinner and watching a movie, going out to a movie or out to dinner, taking a book to special place, getting a massage. It’s not only important to take time for myself, but to also treat myself like the Queen than I am because if I don’t treat me like a Queen—who will?

17 Nov 2019EP39 " The Healers' Touch" Ashleah Walker00:30:21

Ashleah Walker is a hands on healer, a conduit who understands the power of human touch. Her demeanor is soft AND strong, and when listening to her speak you can’t help but be still. She’s a woman who I deeply believe has been mothering for lifetimes, placing herself in service for the betterment of the community. Its not easy to call oneself a “healer”, a title not often chosen but assigned by those who have been fortunate enough to receive. This exchange is most times serendipitous, until there’s a realization that a purpose has been revealed.  Its important to not position oneself as a teacher in a transactional way “I teach YOU this, because I KNOW more than YOU about it”. NO. The desire has to be to learn from the other as much as they are to learn from you. It cannot be merely a hierarchical  exchange as it is incorrect and incomplete - and actually pretty boring

This life is a lesson, easier to realize in hindsight that the hardships or difficulties we’ve endured have actually had a purpose. The action is of paying forward what we’ve learned. As we heal ourselves, we heal others, and by healing others we heal ourselves. We are ALL healers, embrace it, open up to it, and go serve.

ABOUT ASHLEAH Ashleah has worked as a hair artist for 12 years, in Washington DC. As a natural intuitive, and one of the best at her craft, she always easily tapped into her clients’ wishes for their dream hair style. In 2017, her passion for doing hair started to fade as she felt drained – because as a highly empathic person, she easily absorbed too much from others. She started learning about and practicing energy healing work for her own personal well-being. Soon, she realized it was a great way to help clients as well. Ashleah then had that aha moment that hits every entrepreneur. By merging energy work with hair artistry, her enthusiasm for her craft was once again awakened – in a new way. She saw the connection between energy work and beauty, and that’s when she created Ceremony. Now she offers her own unique brand integrating hair styling and energy work, to clients in Washington, D.C. 24 Nov 2019EP40 "Less Is Perfect" Lauren Willson00:42:29

You know those times when something or someone keeps popping up in your life, and you can’t help but notice? Well one day my life was joyfully full of Lauren
the he loop kept getting smaller and smaller until suddenly we were (instagram) friends. Lauren’s a giver, and an alchemist of sorts. She created a magic potion with a cult following that I predict will be in everyone’s home in no time. Out of personal need she made her all purpose salve, a luscious and delicious potion meant to soothe everything from dry skin and burns, to brittle hair and an itchy scalp. I love this story, when a woman creates something special out of a personal need, which results in something so magical she needs to share it with her friends, and by giving it away the demand grows -  until she has to make it for the world.

And what’s the difference between a passion and a job? A dream and a business? I believe the second option in each situation is the applied version of the first. You see you can do anything, and you should do the things that are tugging at your heart. Sometimes that first idea is the seed that will bloom into its own magic, but you’ll never know what that will look like until you start...

ABOUT LAUREN Lauren is the founder of organic skincare line Lauren's All Purpose. Before founding her company, Lauren worked as a journalist, chef and artist and studied herbalism. She was in grad school at Columbia University for Nutrition when she decided to drop out and pursue her business full time. Lauren began making skincare products when she was cooking in Manhattan kitchens. She amassed various burns on her forearms and wanted an organic cream to heal the scars. Years later, she perfected her recipe into what is now Lauren's All Purpose Salve- often described as "magical." Listen to hear a little more about maker of this enchanting balm.

LAUREN’S NON-NEGOTIABLE Lauren will not skip out on a meditation- whether it's 3 minutes or an hour, the power of this practice has transformed her life.

01 Dec 2019EP41 "The More You Know" Deb Flashenberg00:39:47

For a very long time I felt I “knew what to do” in many parts of my life... how I worked, how I drank, how I ate... and it wasn’t until I came to the hard realization that I needed help that things changed. Let’s zoom in on my health for a moment... because of all of the things I’d been going through until that point in my life, I had  accumulated a wealth of information. I’m a nerd you see, and when a topic interests me I become addicted.

Wanting to know every detail I have to break the subject apart and put it back together in a way that makes sense to ME... and how come I didn’t think of doing that for myself? To break myself apart into all the parts of me that were hurting, and put them back together to make sense
 to ME.

Healing, healing again with the healing! Well it never ends, it does get better but then we must begin again. And asking for help while humbling, it is life changing. When the ego becomes my friend and I can say - out loud - I actually have no clue what I’m doing
and can you PLEASE HELP ME.

Today I speak with Deb Flashenberg, the founder and director of the Prenatal Yoga Center in NYC. She is also a labor support doula, Lamaze childbirth educator and mother of two. After the challenging birth of her first child, Deb became incredibly interested in pelvic health and has since become and advocate for women’s health during this incredible vulnerable time, when for some reason, after 9 months of high alert for the mother to be, once the baby comes the new mother somehow moves to the background
Deb has earned her Pelvic Floor Yoga Certification with Leslie Howard. For those who love podcasts, you can tune into Deb’s podcast Yoga | Birth | Babies where she speaks with some of the world’s leading experts in pregnancy, birth, breastfeeding and parenthood.

A FAVORITE RITUAL Reading in bed at night is my all time favorite ritual. After a long day, I love slipping into my warm bed, pulling the covers up high and read a book. My husband and I usually go to bed around the same time, so it is nice to mark the end of our day not on our phones but quietly reading.

A NON-NEGOTIABLE Exercise and yoga. These are non-negotiable and I find a way, even when traveling, to exercise and do yoga. While I do get sore and feel my body work, I don't consider yoga part of my exercise routine. For me, my "exercise" needs to be cardio and weights. My yoga practice is a time to step away from the outside world and explore how my body moves in different positions and deeply listen to what is happening and what is being asked of me in the poses. I have mainly been studying Iyengar yoga for the past 13 years and it is so detail oriented and specific, there really isn't space to mentally go elsewhere. I always feel like I was on a mental vacation when I emerge out of class.

YOU CAN FIND DEB

AND A TREAT FOR OUR LISTENERS Anyone who signs up for “Who's Afraid of the Pregnant Yogi” and uses the promo code JOURNAL will get the video Pregnancy Safe Abdominal Toning.  This is the perfect course for any yoga teacher who wants more information and guidance to best support a pregnant person in class. Or for the pregnant student who wants to walk into class with the knowledge of how to properly modify their practice.

16 Feb 2020EP44 "A Shift of Mind" Note PR00:38:45

Heloise van Eeghen, co-founder of beauty and wellness agency Note PR.

Heloise van Eeghen was born in San Francisco, raised in Los Angeles, studied art and design in London at the seminal Central Saint Martins and upon graduation, her city of choice was New York. She began her career in luxury fashion PR, working in-house for brands like 3.1 Phillip Lim, Prada and Miu Miu. She was introduced to the beauty industry while freelancing for an experiential marketing and events agency where she executed unique and innovative product launches. Following this, Heloise took a position with influencer Garance Doré, to work on her affiliate program and secure brand partnerships within the beauty and fashion industries. To focus on her love of wellness and beauty, Heloise continued at a PR agency in NYC as the Beauty Director for a variety of brands across skincare, body care, hair care, makeup and wellness. She launched Note PR in July of 2019 with co-founder Shannon Comstock. Shannon Comstock, co-founder of beauty and wellness agency Note PR

After graduating from the University of Michigan, Shannon Comstock started her career at Sotheby’s, where she managed press campaigns across jewelry and fine arts divisions. She later served as Account Manager at Project MM, a boutique, Brooklyn-based PR agency in the luxury beauty and grooming space. With companies ranging in size from nascent startups to veritable leaders in their categories, she developed a flexible approach that has carried through to today. Following her time at Project MM, Shannon acted as PR Manager at Jennifer Bett Communications - a leading force in the industry. JBC offers start-ups and uniquely competitive brands a creative, multi-dimensional approach to consumer awareness. While at JBC, Shannon guided strategy for brands in the beauty and wellness industry, finding a passion for holistic and founder-focused storytelling. A favorite non-negotiable self care ritual or routine OR a favorite recipe or tonic. Heloise: I love to soak in the bath with either HELLEN’s magical Reiki-inflused bath brews or Bathing Culture’s Dipsea Soak, loaded with hemp-derived CBD. Bathing is great way to process a long day of work! Sometimes I even bring a notebook and pen with me, so I can do a little brainstorming and planning for the days ahead. 20 minutes is just enough time for my muscles to relax and the creative juices to flow!  Shannon: Something I could never give up are my daily long walks with my dog, Penny. Getting outside and moving first thing in the morning is a refreshing way to start the day, rather than jumping right into the mad dash commute. And at night, I've been loving my aromatherapy inhaler from our client and friend Hellen Yuan. She's created a really lovely formula that encourages restfulness, and it's the perfect way to wind down in the evening. 16 May 2021EP56 “A Joy Filled Life” Lauren Blodgett00:59:21

Lauren is a Brooklyn-based immigration attorney and founder of the non-profit The Brave House, which provides legal & holistic services, mentorship, and community to young immigrant women in New York. Lauren was on the Forbes 30 Under 30 list for Law and Policy due to her innovative approach to legal services.

Lauren graduated from Harvard Law School where she focused on international human rights and worked in non-profits in Morocco, Thailand, Jordan, Tanzania and Cambodia. Lauren is a part of different dance communities in NYC, such as Daybreaker (a 6am sober dance party) and 5 Rhythms ecstatic dance.

LAUREN'S NON-NEGOTIABLES: PLAY. I have fun every single day. I try to view the world with child-like wonder and lightheartedness and optimism - especially given the gravity of my daily work. I believe that life is sacred and juicy and part of showing gratitude is by enjoying it. I'm like a modern day Mary Poppins - "in every job that must be done there is an element of fun, you find the fun and *SNAP* the job becomes a game!" I believe that how you spend your days is how you spend your life, so I carve out time to cherish the day with laughter and joy... even if it just means dancing to Lizzo in my kitchen.  Also sleep. I am hard-core about getting deep, lucious sleep for at least 8 hours a night. Non-negotiable. If I'm going to show up with energy and exuberance every day, I absolutely have to let my body recharge.

I've known Margarita for few years, and have always been mesmerized by her energy. Her approach to healing and wellbeing is unique and authentic, painted by her inner wisdom and experience, and the knowledge of the lineages she's studied. You can literally see it in her eyes.

During our beautiful conversation we discussed the deeper layers of the body and how to move energy within, the beauty of leading a practice with compassion, and how our own trauma can be transmuted and used for collective service.

Margarita, what is your non-negotiable self care routine or habit?

My non-negotiable self-care priority is keeping my hormones as balanced as possible. As a founder and business owner with chronic health conditions, this is absolutely essential for my well-being and my ability to thrive in a forward-facing care-taking role. I do this by maintaining an anti-inflammatory diet, eating high-protein & high-fat foods, prioritizing 8 hours of sleep and healthy sleep hygiene, taking a hormone-balancing supplement regimen each morning, minimizing caffeine, meditating often, and living in accordance with my cycle and energetic constitution.

I am a Taurus, a Human Design Projector, and an introvert, which means I honor my need for lots of down time to recharge between sessions and events. I plan my schedule so that I am most active and social during my follicular and ovulatory phases, and allow myself to move more slowly and internally during my luteal and menstrual phases. I engage in regular therapy, yoga, meditation, and EMDR to balance my nervous system, and am honest about my needs and boundaries with clients and community.

PROMO CODE:
For any new clients listening in, I am offering 22% off for 60 minute or 90 minute acupuncture healing sessions with code PAOLA through April 1st.

"What is your non-negotiable self care routine or habit?"

My self-care routine has shifted over the years depending on where I am at in life, but currently the things I try and do everyday that make me feel good are: drink 3 liters of water, morning movement and sunlight, balanced whole food meals, and 7-8 hours of sleep. It’s all about simplicity and consistency!

If my story resonates with you in any capacity or you’re looking for some extra guidance or accountability as you navigate your own health - I’d love to connect! I’d also love to offer listeners a promo code to get $50 off The Lanby’s latest and greatest service offering - Just the Labs - which includes a comprehensive lab panel and 45 minute analysis by the Lanby’s PA and Wellness Advisor.
