Working with long-time friend and producer Scott Stevens, the relationship led to writing some of the best songs in his career. Scott said this regarding the single Higher Power, “Where I was in my life at the time, without that song even being, it was the song that had to be the title track and had to be the first song on the record because that’s where the journey began.”  Dorothy will be featured on a duet on the track If These Walls Could Talk. 16 Sep 2024Jesse James Dupree conversation with LA Lloyd00:23:38

You may know Jesse James Dupree as the chainsaw slingin' frontman for Jackyl.  What you may not know is he has a friendship with Brian Johnson of AC/DC that has lasted for decades.  With the similarities in their vocals, it only makes sense they would collaborate together.  What started as some song ideas for Jesse did indeed lead to the two working together on Jesse's solo album Breathing Fire.

On a phone call between Jesse James Dupree and Brian Johnson, the two started talking about how the marines would do a cadence while marching.  From that idea, Brian told Jesse about a song idea that was similar to the cadence that eventually led to the duet on Never Gets Old.

Jesse James Dupree is a hero to bikers all across the USA.  He plays all the biggest bike rallies from Daytona to Myrtle Beach to Sturgis.  Also, he is a consultant working with Harley Davidson.  There was even a reality show about his partnership with the Full Throttle Saloon in Sturgis.  Jesse decided to cover The Faces song Stay With Me at the Daytona Bike Fest in 2024.  He will talk about his love of this song and the possibility of doing a studio recording.

19 Jan 2023HARDY conversation with LA Lloyd00:18:33

It's been a long time since LA Lloyd said, "this artist is going to change the face of current ROCK."  In fact it was just over 30 years ago after he first played a song called "Smells Like Teen Spirit" from Nirvana.  There's no denying that Rock has been pushed to the underground since the early 2000s.  Even though some great music and artists have emerged in the past 20 years, there really hasn't been a "scene" created since Grunge emerged in the early 90s.  So who is this artist Lloyd believes is leading the pack?  His name is HARDY!!

23 Apr 2024Scott Stevens (the Exies) conversation with LA Lloyd00:27:24

Scott Stevens was the success story of 2023 on the Rock 30 countdown. He released the song Spirits High through his band the Exies.  It took over 30 weeks for the song to reach number one on the Rock 30.  This was made possible with the fans' continuous requests week after week that got it to the top.

Scott didn't sit idle with the success of Spirits High.  As he tells LA Lloyd, there's been a lot of things percolating regarding the Exies music.  The next chapter of this story brings us to the new song For What It's Worth.  Its inspiration comes from the path of the Exies eventually coming to a stop.  From there, Scott works with many amazing artists as producer and songwriter.  And then the path eventually leads back to creating music for the Exies again.

LA Lloyd has constantly questioned Scott if there would ever be an Exies reunion.  Fans will be happy to know that it will be at the venue that got it all started for Scott and the band.  After so many years, they will perform May 29, 2024 at The Viper Room in Los Angeles.

In addition to Scott's success as an artist, he will talk about working as producer for Dorothy, Shinedown, Lzzy Hale, Daughtry, Starbenders, Lilith Czar and countless others.

Daughtry finally reached Number one on the LA Lloyd Rock 30 with the song Artificial.  Chris will give his thoughts on the inspiration of that song on how society is dealing with the growth of Artificial Intelligence at record breaking speed.

You probably noticed in the Artificial video of Chris' workout ethic. He tells LA Lloyd, "I have the strongest willpower of anyone I know." He continued, "If I know that I am preparing for something, there is nothing you can do to make me crack."

The new single from Daughtry is Pieces.  The lyrics will definitely hit you emotionally when you listen to it.  He sings, "I'm learning to live with the pieces of me."  That's pretty heavy knowing the background of his pain losing a family member.

09 Sep 2024Nita Strauss conversation with LA Lloyd00:16:28

LA Lloyd talked with Nita Strauss during her headlining tour with Diamante and Starbenders.

They talked about Nita's album Call of the Void which she described as an "educational experience as a songwriter."  The difference in this album compared to her previous ones was the approach of writing songs that were not only for herself but others she worked with.  This led to collaborations with the likes of Lzzy Hale, Dorothy and the Number One song Dead Inside with David Draiman from Disturbed.

Nita was asked if she considers herself a role model.  Her take on it is if someone looks at her as one, she takes it very seriously.  She hopes fans that look up to her can sense the positive vibe she gives off.  It's a celebration of her getting away from the self-destructive ways she had been channeling earlier in her life.

07 Aug 2020Chris Motionless from Motionless In White/LA Lloyd interview00:25:28

COVID-19 has affected everyone's lives but especially musicians who can't tour and play for their fans and make a living.  LA Lloyd had noticed a particular tweet recently from Chris Motionless from Motionless In White regarding the pandemic.  Chris wrote, "My mental health is on a serious decline this year. I hope anyone else experiencing similar feelings are doing okay."  When friends see other friends feeling down, they reach out as LA Lloyd did with Chris.  So, let us we try and help you forget the pandemic as we have a friendly conversation about music and life.

Every time the song is streamed, downloaded, or used in any way a donation is being made. The band's initial donation to the AFSP of $155,000 was presented at their final show in Denver, Colorado.  If you or a loved one is in crisis, please reach out to the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 988, or the Crisis Text Line (Text TALK to 741741) to talk to someone who can help. 03 May 2018Beaver Cool Aid Episode 18 – Leg Bandanas00:34:50

Mature audience 18+

Drew is on a mission to bring back a modern day monocle.  Lisle discusses the first ever penis/scrotum transplant.  Lloyd befriends a fan that was labeled “KISS guy” by Dave Grohl after he got on stage and jams the song Monkey Wrench with Foo Fighters in Austin.  Somehow Lisle, Lloyd and Drew reflect back to college and how great it was not having everything documented on Social Media.  Unfortunately, Lloyd’s photo was captured wearing leg bandanas.  Finally, the college memories continue discussing having fun with photos to see how far you could go and actually get them developed without getting the “censor” sticker.  We end the show with a segment called “penis top hat.”

17 May 2018Beaver Cool Aid Episode 19 – Eleven-Dollar Nuts00:41:16

The Beaver returns after Drew has been traveling to Toronto where he attends a Blue Jays game and drinks so much he decides to leave in the 5th inning only to find out the next day he missed a no-hitter.  Later Drew’s travels take him to Los Angeles where he enjoys a few gummy edibles but loses one.  He traces his steps back to a taco stand and finds it on the floor.  Does he still eat it?  Lisle learns about middle school vaping from his 6th grade daughter.  Also, Lisle considers blogging about traveling as a career change but decides he doesn’t like to write.  How will Texas handle legal sports betting?  Lisle breaks it down.  A new Guns N Roses remastered Appetite For Destruction collection is available in June and we discuss “Box Sets For Dummies."  Finally, we pay tribute and say so long to one of our favorite restaurants as long time friend Chuck Stanley closes the CBQ Smokehouse.

25 May 2018Beaver Cool Aid Episode 20 – Macaque In The Morning 00:46:42

The Beaver hits its first milestone of completing 20 Podcasts. In this episode, Lisle eats some bad cheese and explains why it’s OK to buy the meat at Wal-Mart with the yellow tags to save a couple bucks. A primate escapes at the San Antonio airport. Many call it a baboon, but in reality it’s a Rhesus Macaque. Lloyd makes a few jokes about the pronunciation of macaque, which leads into a discussion of why a good night DJ will eventually become a great morning personality on the radio. Finally, Drew, Lisle and Lloyd discuss the Royal Wedding and how the new Duchess puts the “sex” in Sussex. Interestingly, this leads us into a history lesson from Lisle and thought provoking conversation of why Meghan Markle is called “bi-racial” by the media in the U.K, while Obama is referred to as “Black” and “African American” in the US. Why so serious?

A Perfect Circle's Billy Howerdel was the first guest co-host of 2018 on the LA Lloyd Rock Countdown.  Billy talked about writing new music with Maynard James Keenan, what fans can expect on the new album, the previous Fall 2017 tour where they played two new tracks including their single The Doomed and finally why the band is not allowing cell phones to record video at their live shows.

01 Jun 2018Brent Smith from Shinedown interview with LA Lloyd00:26:29

This interview is unedited and raw exactly as it was recorded April 16, 2018 backstage at The Tobin Center in San Antonio, TX immediately following an intense workout from Brent Smith.  It was pre-recorded to run Memorial Day weekend after the new album was to be released.  Normally, I will edit or clean up the interview due to background noise but Brent's honesty was so pure, I wanted you to hear it first-hand the same way I did.  After seeing their live show playing songs from the latest album "Attention Attention," Brent was at the top of his game with fellow bandmates Barry Kerch, Eric Bass and Zach Myers.  This interview also broke the record for most co-host appearances on my national syndicated radio show LA Lloyd Rock Countdown at 15 times.  It is a must-listen podcast for anyone who is a Shinedown fan, including myself who has been along for the ride since the first time I played "Fly From The Inside" on the radio 15 years ago in 2003.  Enjoy and thank you SHINEDOWN for the amazing songs!

01 Feb 2022Badflower’s Josh Katz with LA Lloyd00:24:18

Here's another from the LA Lloyd Archives recorded May 4, 2021

Josh Katz from Badflower and LA Lloyd have one major thing in common; panic attacks.  There's several things that could cause it in Josh's world like playing their new song "F The World" in front of an audience.  That may not sound so scary, but due to COVID, all the members couldn't get together for a full rehearsal before doing it live.  When Josh is with LA Lloyd, it's definitely a conversation and not an interview.  Even with a few years difference between the two, they always find many of the same things in life they relate to.  The biggest of course is the music.  Also, enjoy the great story about Josh's new life on the farm near Nashville.

28 Apr 2022Dorothy interview with LA Lloyd00:20:09

Dorothy Martin, vocalist for Dorothy, the band, released her latest album "Gifts from the Holy Ghost" April 22, 2022.  The title of Dorothy's album derived from Dorothy witnessing her guitar tech overdosing and literally died.  She prayed for him to come back, which he did, and witnessing this grew her spirituality tremendously.

Rest in Peace is the first single from "Gifts from the Holy Ghost." Dorothy says it could be interpreted as a break-up song but there are many ways this could relate to the listener as she will explain in this Podcast.

Dorothy and LA Lloyd talk about the untimely passing of Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins.  In the conversation, she felt the track "Black Sheep" is dedicated to her fans and a perfect song to play for Taylor.

22 Feb 2024Josey Scott (Saliva) conversation with LA Lloyd00:34:42

Josey Scott stepped away from being frontman of Saliva at the end of 2011.  What has he been up to since that major decision?  A LOT! He is back with a new band called “Josey Scott’s Saliva.”  They have been touring and writing in 2023.

Wayne Swinny

Wayne Swinny, original Saliva guitarist passed away unexpectedly on March 22, 2023.  Josey was devastated but will share how happy he was he had one last chance to reunite with Wayne and Saliva on September 11, 2022.  At The Blue Ridge Rock Festival September 11, 2022, Josey made his first appearance with the band as a special guest since departing in 2011.  They performed three songs together: “Your Disease”, “Always”, and “Click Click Boom.”

Josey Scott’s Saliva has been playing live shows, writing new music and preparing to unleash a new song and album in 2024.  Who has Josey been working with in the studio?  Who is in his current band?  When can you get some new tunes?  Josey will answer all these questions in this Podcast.

02 Oct 2020Kevin Martin from Candlebox on LA Lloyd Rock 3000:25:37

Back in 2016, Kevin Martin, Candlebox vocalist, and I did a virtual interview via Skype.  Little did we know that four years later, these type of interviews would become the norm in 2020.  What has Kevin been doing in the middle of the pandemic?  Actually he admits he should be practicing more but fortunately his wife has been nudging him to get back at it.  Candlebox worked with Peter Cornell, Chris' brother, for a new track called Let Me Down Easy.  There is a possible virtual live performance coming once the band can all get in one spot...probably Los Angeles.  And yes there will be a new album from Candlebox in 2021...and hopefully a tour to go with it.

16 Dec 2017Corey Taylor from Stone Sour interview November 25, 201700:16:22

One of my favorite guests to interview is Corey Taylor from Stone Sour and Slipknot.  This interview was part of the LA Lloyd Rock Countdown Thanksgiving special that aired November 25-26, 2017 on many US radio stations.

Corey tells us the origin of the latest Stone Sour album "Hydrograd" along with other great segments discussing his work with The You Rock Foundation, being a Rock Dad, Song #3 and Rose Red Violent Blue, and finally his book America 51 and doing the audiobook version.

It's an interview that every Stone Sour and Slipknot fan should hear.

16 Feb 2022Falling In Reverse Ronnie Radke interview on LA Lloyd Rock 3000:24:02

Falling In Reverse have released what LA Lloyd feels is their best single ever called Zombiefied.  And who better to tell you the story of that song than their vocalist Ronnie Radke.  Zombiefied has been going up the Rock 30 chart very fast and will be featured on Falling In Reverse's new EP Neon Zombie. Other topics discussed with Ronnie include his love of Freddie Mercury, what he does with all the ideas he's always writing down to eventually formulate them into songs, his love/hate relationship with TikTok, and the making of the video Zombiefied.

05 Dec 2017Disturbed co-hosts first LA Lloyd Rock Countdown of 2017 with Dan Donegan00:17:04

Disturbed is just one of the many major rock acts to co-host the LA Lloyd Rock Countdown.  We started off 2017 with Dan Donegan of Disturbed talking about having the biggest song of 2016 with The Sound Of Silence...as well as balancing a normal family life as a Dad and being in one of the biggest rock bands in the world.

24 Jun 2019Duff McKagan from Guns N' Roses interview June 10, 201900:35:18

Duff McKagan has had a few days from touring with Guns 'N Roses.  So there's no rest...Instead, Duff teamed up with Shooter Jennings who produced his solo album Tenderness.  Duff describes these songs as ones of healing written from his observations while on the Not In This Lifetime Tour with Guns 'n Roses.  LA Lloyd said, "this is the most intimate interview I've ever done with an artist."

This interview was recorded June 10, 2019 at the Historic Scoot Inn in Austin, TX before Duff's solo show with Shooter Jennings.

04 Jun 2020Bad Wolves vocalist Tommy Vext interview with LA Lloyd Rock 3000:17:44

On April 23,2020 I had Tommy Vext, Bad Wolves vocalist for an in-depth conversation.  We were both under stay-at home orders due to COVID-19.  He was in Los Angeles and I was in Austin.  Many topics covered include why they covered "Zombie" originally done by The Cranberries...fantastic story, Zoltan Bathory from Five Finger Death Punch is their manager...did you know that,  their relationship with Diamante and her appearance on the Bad Wolves track "Hear Me Now, and how tough it is to live in LA and make a living being in a band.  You'll hear a lot of interesting facts about the band but most importantly how many great songs are on their album "Disobey."

17 May 2022The Offspring interview with LA Lloyd00:24:17

The Offspring has had one hell of a ride since their first Number One song "Come Out And Play" was released in 1994.  LA Lloyd struck up a relationship with them that same year that has continued through the present.  Dexter and Noodles, vocalist and guitarist, are featured on this LA Lloyd Podcast.  Let The Bad Times Roll is the tenth album from the band and their first offering in eight years.  According to the band, "There wasn’t a break up, no hiatus (they’ve kept up a steady level of touring during the span between albums), simply the band likes to take their time."  Did you know that The Offspring vocalist Dexter Holland has a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology from USC?  He said, “I had kept in touch with my professors and they encouraged me to come back and finish it up.  The band was cool about it,' before adding with a laugh, 'and that only took five years.'”  Great stories like this throughout the Podcast.

06 Mar 2023Dayseeker conversation with LA Lloyd00:23:44

Rory Rodriguez, Dayseeker vocalist talks in-depth with LA Lloyd about their album Dark Sun which was released November 4, 2022.

Fans of the Rock 30 have been requesting the new single from Dayseeker called Without Me.  As Rory explains, we were encouraged to do a co-write with someone outside the band.  That person was Matt Squire, who had worked previously with Panic At The Disco, Te Used and even Demi Lovato.  It was a good decision as the song is turning out to be one of their biggest hits.

07 Mar 2022Dead Sara interview on LA Lloyd Rock 3000:19:08

LA Lloyd delivers another fun interview from the Shiprocked Cruise.  Emily Armstrong, Dead Sara vocalist, returns with an engaging conversation from an artist's standpoint as a performer on essentially what could be described as a "festival on the sea." The first meeting LA Lloyd had with the band was at SXSW in 2012 as they were promoting their new single "Weatherman."  It was very cool to see them perform it live on Shiprocked 10 years later.  A bit of trivia about how the band's name; Dead Sara is a nod to the Fleetwood Mac song "Sara" and its lyric "...said Sara."  The band misheard the lyric as "dead Sara".  And the rest they say is history.

18 Jan 2018Beaver Cool Aid Episode 10: S**t Show00:30:34

Explicit content 18+

You can't imagine how the word "shit" can be used in so many different ways.  John Lisle, LA Lloyd and Drew Bennett cover Aziz Ansari's worst date ever with "Grace"; the story of the "poop knife"; Lisle's homemade bodet; Why girls don't ever do excrement talk...which leads us to the finale...Trump's "Shit Hole."  This may just be the shittiest podcast ever.

01 Mar 2018Beaver Cool Aid Episode 12: Beaver Gets Political00:56:16

March has arrived and so has the latest episode of Beaver Cool Aid. LA Lloyd, John Lisle and Drew Bennett have a lot to get off their chest since the 3-week hiatus the Podcast had to go through...Believe us we would have not taken this long to get the new show if there had not been so much personal loss.  But the show must go on as they say.  This week:

Lisle attends middle school orchestra concert for his daughter and you can imagine...

Is a "tribute band" a "cover band?"

Middle School protests and walkouts.  Are the kids really the future?

Lloyd is inspired by the kids' protests and may run for office?

Drew decides if it's time for Gen-X to turn it around or just continue playing video games.

Lloyd and Lisle say goodbye to fellow North Carolina native...and global icon Billy Graham

And finally why Papa John is really not the daddy afterall

27 Sep 2022Ayron Jones conversation with LA Lloyd00:17:21

This Podcast with Ayron Jones is rated F for FILTHY!  While some may misconstrue that word as negative or nasty, Ayron says, “Where I come from, it is used as the highest compliment.”  He worked with Marty Frederickson and Scott Stevens in Nashville to write his new single.

Also, check out a reflection where back in January 2022, Ayron performed on the Shiprocked 2022 cruise.  Fans got to see a once-in-a-lifetime experience of his band performing Prince’s Purple Rain. The band was joined by Carmen Vandenburg from Bones UK for a searing solo on guitar.

09 Dec 2017Metallica interview with LA Lloyd backstage WorldWired Tour00:14:20

It was the biggest rock tour of 2017. Metallica's Lars Ulrich sat down with LA Lloyd backstage at the Alamodome in San Antonio, TX on June 14, 2017.

This interview was used on the 17th anniversary of the nationally syndicated LA Lloyd Rock Countdown July 1-2, 2017.

The last time LA Lloyd had seen Metallica on a tour of this magnitude was the show they played at the Rose Bowl in Los Angesles previously in 1992. Move forward 25 years and it was as if time stood still.

Topics include remaining true to your sound and staying relevant, getting new fans with each album release, how each member's personality is reflected through the instrument they play, Lars hosting a show called "It's Electric" on Beats 1 radio and finally Sir Lars...yes he gets knighted and has a funny story about that event.

11 Nov 2017Skillet interview John Cooper with LA Lloyd Oyster Bake 201700:18:51

A fun interview with John Cooper from Skillet at his hotel before Oyster Bake April 22, 2017 in San Antonio, TX.  This is one of my favorite interviews of the year as John discusses the irony of the song "Back From The Dead" with a certain concert promoter.  There's a great story about Maria Brink from In This Moment playing Barbie Dolls with John and Korey Cooper's kids.  Also why Skillet appeals to all ages from 5 to 75; bikers, soccer moms and pastors.  This is engaging conversation for John Cooper fans to hear and new fans to discover Skillet.
