#1: Should I Homeschool My Kids?
00:27:33
In this episode, I explain all of the reasons I want to homeschool my two children. I also list all of my fears around homeschooling. Join me as I embark on a journey to find out why homeschool has become so popular, what is the best way to do it, how does it differ from region to region, and ultimately, if I decide to homeschool my kids.
In this episode, we discuss with Johanna how she works full time and still manages to homeschool her two children. We also chat about how she socializes her kids, the curriculum she uses, and the reporting requirements in the State of New York.
**Charlotte Mason** Charlotte Mason was a British educator and reformer in England at the turn of the twentieth century. She proposed to base the education of children upon a wide and liberal curriculum. She was inspired by the writings of the Bible, John Amos Comenius, Matthew Arnold and John Ruskin.

#4: Curriculum, Curriculum! How Kids Learn and What Curriculum is Best for You
00:57:21
Katie joins us today from Idaho. She has five kids; two who attended public school and three who have been exclusively homeschooled. Katie's background in psychology and as a curriculum consultant brings some great information to the table as she explains how kids learn.
Katie gives us an in-depth description of each curriculum she uses for each subject and why. She explains how content-based subject matter, like; grammar, science, social studies, and geography, can be taught as 'family-style', while skills-based subject matter, such as reading and math, should be taught independently.
What curriculum does Katie suggest is best for you? Listen to find out!
#5: Why A Member of the School Board Chooses to Homeschool Her Kids
00:37:33
Today we chat with Heather, a mom of four from Minnesota who has a background in Early Childhood Education. She is also a member of the Board of Directors for her district's school board. She discusses her reasons for leaving public school, Social Emotional Learning and what that has become, and how we should be viewing the role of educator in our child's life as an amazing privilege.
Heather explains to us the single most important factor when it comes to our child's success. We also talk about how this time we have with our children under our care is such a short window, however, it is the MOST impactful.
#6: A Mom Who Was Homeschooled Herself: What She Does Differently When Homeschooling Her Kids and What She Warns Homeschooling Parents About
00:40:51
Keiva joins us today from Vermont. She was homeschooled as a child and is now a mom of six. Her older children attended private school but because of severe bullying, she brought them home to homeschool. Keiva tells us of her experience as a homeschooled student in a small town and gives a warning to other parents currently homeschooling their kids. We discuss the opportunities allotted to homeschoolers in Vermont, and possibly in your state as well, that are not generally known about. Keiva discusses how she gave up her business to care for her children, but how she has since created another business of her own. We talk about the lack of students getting into the trades and how places like the career development center are not utilized enough. Keiva explains how her son entered a competition through Skills USA and won many scholarships- another underutilized resource.
#7: Why Even Conservative States Like Georgia Have a Growing Population of Homeschoolers
00:40:57
This week we chat with Ashley, from Georgia, about why even the conservative states have a growing population of homeschoolers. Ashley explains how her family adjusted to a quick decision to homeschool and how she manages to educate multiple small children at a time. She also tells us how she keeps her little ones in their bedrooms in the morning so she can have a little bit of time to herself before the day starts. Listen to find out what sort of co-op Ashley started that brought more than 50 homeschoolers to their first gathering!

#8: From Unschooling Her Boys to Creating an Online Adventure Education Community- This is Tiya's Story
00:46:05
Tiya joins us from Florida, where she used the unschooling approach with her two boys from the very beginning. Learning through exploration and sensory activities were the main components to the education of Tiya's sons. Once the boys reached high school, they wanted to enroll in a mainstream education through a local private school. Once there, Tiya expanded her love of homeschooling and helped create the Inner Bliss Sanctuary, an online support community for homeschooling families with an emphasis on adventure education. I loved talking with Tiya because she makes you want to throw your curriculum books out the window and get your hands dirty with some good ol' fashioned fun. She brings a spark to learning that gets you excited about the journey you are embarking on. Talking with someone at the other end of the spectrum, as her boys are 6'4" and driving now- it is a breath of fresh air to know we don't have to worry about worksheets, flash cards and reading by a certain age. #9: One Mom's Journey: From Not Fitting In to Pioneering a New Path Forward
00:44:50
Rachel joins us today from New Jersey. She started her son in public school but after he was diagnosed with special needs, she found herself trying to help the teachers more than the teachers were helping her son. Rachel pulled her son from school and began the homeschooling process.
Sadly, Rachel discovered that she and her son felt out of place within the homeschooling community. Playgroups had cliques among the kids and adults and the experience was not as welcoming as she had hoped, especially with her new baby in tow.
So, Rachel started her own group with a focus on making every person feel as though they "fit in". The group quickly expanded to over 30 families. Rachel leads projects in Art, Science, and Math weekly, with a goal of expanding out to other counties and states in the future. #10: Online Options for Homeschool- When the School System Is Your Employer and Your Child's Educator, But You've Had Enough
00:53:19
Laura joins us this week from New York where she is a mom of three and a teacher. Laura was employed at the school her children attended, but recently left this position because of the radical agendas being pushed upon both the students and the teachers. Laura's youngest was no longer happy at school, so she pulled him and enrolled him in an online school, The Keystone School, where he has flourished.
The Keystone School offers a flexible online learning environment for grades K-12. Laura explains how her son is able to get his coursework done and still manage to attend snowboarding school in Vermont for the winter season. Programs like this really let us see that kids don't need to be at a desk for 6+ hours a day!
I loved hearing about this schooling option, I think this will be a saving grace for working families who don't want their kids indoctrinated by the school system- but don't have the time to sit with their kids one on one to teach.
As more options for homeschooling arise, we as parents become more empowered. This podcast is meant to empower YOU! Thank you to everyone who tunes in for this week's show! Also- thank you to everyone who listened to my episode of Tin Foil Hat with Sam Tripoli! I loved reading everyone's comments and emails! #14: Why A School Teacher Is Choosing To Homeschool
01:19:01
Brooke is a school teacher who always wanted to homeschool, but was scared into sending her son to traditional school after an autism diagnosis. After one year, Brooke decided homeschooling was the way to go for her and her family. Although her son did well in class, he was completely exhausted when he got home and Brooke wasn't getting to spend the quality time with her son as she desired.
Brooke discusses the curriculum of the Core Knowledge Foundation with us in detail, explaining how it spirals out into a comprehensive way for children to actually take in the information you are giving them. They even have a "what your ___ grader needs to know" - if you question what your child needs to know by each age!
We discuss government voucher programs, why parents should be the ones to have the tough conversations with their kids, and how even in the best schools- they are STILL A BUSINESS, which gets funding based on test scores.

#15: Why We Should Be Teaching Our Kids About Gold and Silver and the Fiat System
00:38:22
Isabel joins us today from her dual residence in Montana and British Columbia. She homeschools her son and also works for 7K- a company that sells gold and silver. Isabel tells us about the differences in homeschooling in various regions and why is it SO IMPORTANT that we teach out children about the fiat system and gold and silver. Fiat money is a government-issued currency that is not backed by a commodity such as gold. Fiat money gives central banks greater control over the economy because they can control how much money is printed. Most modern paper currencies, such as the U.S. dollar, are fiat currencies. Learn why we need to teach out kids the importance of this information and what they will need in the event that the US dollar collapses.

#16: Classical? Charlotte Mason? Unschooling? How One Mom Combines Them All
00:56:52
Hilarie joins us today from Idaho; a mom of three who considers herself a classical home educator that delivers with a Charlotte Mason presentation and leaves lots of room for unschoolery. Say that three times fast!!
As a former hairdresser, Hilarie always felt like she wasn't smart "enough" in school. However, when you listen to her speak on homeschooling- she sounds like she has her Master's in education! Proving that you don't need formal education to learn about things you are passionate about. Hilarie explains to us what the classical education is all about and how she uses it, combined with a Charlotte Mason approach. She then allows her children to explore and lead their learning to create a balance of what inspires them, and what is relevant to their learning ability at that moment.
Hilarie tells us about the six purposes of schooling- you do not want to miss these! We discuss learning the basics, how she homeschools with multiple children, and why homeschooling parents always overdo it in the beginning. Keep reading to get links to everything referenced during the episode!

#17: Talked Out Of Homeschooling, Hear One Mom's Battle With The School System As She Fights To Keep Her Son Afloat
00:46:49
Do you homeschool and wonder, "am I doing the right thing for my child?" Have you wanted to homeschool but been talked out of it? Homeschooling comes with many fears, the biggest one being- failing our children. As parents, we only want what's best for our kids, unfortunately, it's impossible to know what that is because none of us have a crystal ball. Elon hasn't invented that yet...
This week we are joined by Kristen, a mom from New York who knew in her heart that homeschooling would be the right choice for her son. Unfortunately, Kristen was talked out of homeschooling by family and friends.
Upon learning that her son has ADHD and tourette syndrome, Kristen's confidence in herself and her ability to homeschool diminished even more because she didn't know if she could provide him with all of the services he would need. So off to school .. with the "professionals" he went.
Kristen explains to us the heartwrenching battle she encountered with the public school system as she tried to keep her son afloat in his classes. Meeting after meeting, being intiminated by teachers, learning there was helpful information yet nobody was willing to give it to her, Kristen fought with the school. Kristen soon learned that decisions are often made in the schools based on funding and paperwork- not what she had planned when searching for her home in this area because of the "great school district."
If you've ever questioned your decision to homeschool, this episode is for you.
If you've ever wondered if you should homeschool, but don't have the confidence to do it, this episode is for you.
I want to thank Kristen for sharing this story with us. I hope you enjoy the show and are able to learn something about our school system from this. Please think about sharing the show with friends, family, and even to your homeschool groups on facebook. If you're able to write a review on Apple Podcasts, that would be so appreciated and will help the show grow organically.

This week we chat with Bob Spoljaric, father of two girls, from Pennsylvania. Bob and his wife have been homeschooling for three years. Bob tells us how he contributes to the homeschooling process- and how important the father's role really is.
We discuss the difference between the mental "pull" in a household setting versus the work setting. We also talk about the importance of the time we have here- in the now- and how living life according to milestones like promotions and retirement, which are usually set by a third party, is not the only path there is. The "industrial mousetrap" is all part of what school and society teaches us to seek, what we should value, and what success looks like. But is it really living your best life?
Bob really hits home for me when he explains how people develop strong relationships with one another when a common struggle is shared. However, the ability to create a shared struggle is gone when you don't spend enough time together as a family. How many of us can relate to the hustle and bustle of the daily grind? Rushing to work, rushing to school, rushing home, rushing to practice, rushing to get food on the table.. when we live this way, we- and our family members- are creating shared struggles with people outside of the home and not with eachother, which contributes to the breakdown of the family unit.
Don't miss this episode! It's a great tribute to all the dads out there for Father's Day weekend!

#20: Unschooling and the Corruption of the Education System with Tasha Fishman
00:58:13
Tasha joins us this week from Canada. She is a mom of three boys and an advocate for personal freedom. Like most of us, Tasha was the mom who eagerly pushed her kids onto the school bus so she could do the chores of the house, help run her family business, and meet friends for lunch- until her eyes opened to the widespread corruption of the government and particularly, the education system.
Tasha began homeschooling, and again- like so many of us, failed immediately when her kids did not want to sit for 6 hours a day and learn from a textbook. Tasha quickly realized that school did not need to be brought home; learning just needed to be brought about in a different way.
From there, Tasha focused on Unschooling. Unschooling is a philosophy and a lifestyle where you put the needs and interests of your children first before the needs of an institutionalized curriculum which adheres to a teacher, who answers to a principal, who reports to a Board, who complies to our government, who follows the WEF, who ultimately serve the elite ruling class families who control all of us.
Tasha and I discuss the dire need for parents to open their eyes to the corruption going on in the school system. From Canada to the US, there is an agenda going on and our children are being targeted.
Tasha can be found @Unschooling_Our_Kids on Instagram, Twitter or Facebook or www.TashaFishman.com

Lyndsey and I discuss how she began homeschooling children even before she had kids of her own. She explains how she developed games and fun new ways to learn and how over the years, that organically blossomed into the creation of Treehouse Schoolhouse.
We hear what a day looks like for Lyndsey's homeschooled family and how her nature study curriculum fits into their education. We discuss what role screens play in Lyndsey's home and alternatives that we can try to get our kids off that pecky screen. Lyndsey also gives me some GREAT ideas to try with my 4 year old son who is struggling to memorize letters.

#23: Breaking the Stigma of Needing a Career in your Twenties and Leaning In to the Beauty of Raising a Family First with Deborah Harris
01:09:39
This week we talk with Deborah from Florida, who is at the other end of her homeschooling journey... she completed the project!!! And guess what... all six of her children turned out great! Phew, what a relief!
Debbie raised her kids in Chicago, back when homeschooling was not popular. Homeschool laws were different then and the stigma of homeschooling was fierce! Much worse than we face today.
But Debbie persevered. With little money and working for another mom on the weekends cooking and cleaning, Debbie was able to provide her kids with all they needed to make their childhoods fun and fulfilling. Even if it meant dumpster diving for old computers for her son to take apart and put back together.
Now that Debbie's homeschooling journey has come to a close, she has ventured on to a successful career in data science. We talk about the importance of understanding that we CAN have it all... just not all at once.
We discuss how hard it is to break the mindset of needing a career right out of college. We also talk about how we, especially women, fall victim to the "Rachel from Friends", or "Carrie from Sex and the City" mentality, that getting married and starting a family in our 20s isn't what's best for us, that there's somehow "more" out there... BUT our bodies are meant to bare children and our 20s is the healthiest time to do that!
I also ask Debbie her thoughts about online curriculum, or "machine learning," as she calls it, since she works as a credentialed data scientist now. Don't miss her response! #24: Why Homeschooling Alone is Not Enough with Tuttle Twins Author, Connor Boyack
00:39:53
This week I had the privilege of hosting Connor Boyack, author of The Tuttle Twins books and President of Libertas Institute; an award winning, free-market think tank and educational organization responsible for changing over 100 laws across a wide range of issues.
Connor and I discuss what gave him the idea to create The Tuttle Twins book series and why he calls public school, the "public fool system."
We talk about why Connor and his wife decided from the beginning that they would be homeschooling their children and what paths they have taken along the way, such as attending Acton Academy.
Connor explains his thoughts on college and if it is really necessary- and when. He also tells us why homeschooling alone is just not enough and what we as parents need to know to intentionally guide our children through this mind war.
Join us for this important interview as we delve into why our kids are being used as pawns and how we can, and must, protect them.

#25: Finding the Best Path Forward when Dealing with Dyslexia, Dysgraphia and Dyscalculia
00:54:58
This week we welcome Liz from Idaho. Liz never pictured herself as the homeschooling mom, but after seeing her son struggle to learn very basic things, she decided to talk her husband into letting her home educate for their son's kindergarten year. After learning that her son has dyslexia, dysgraphia, and dyscalculia, Liz set out to find a curriculum that would help her son without the frustration he had previously been dealing with.
Liz went through many different curriculum, even ones that were meant for dyslexic children, yet she was having no success. You will have to tune in to this week's episode to find out what actually worked!
Liz explains EBLI to us, Evidence-Based Learning Instruction, which is a program that she has been heavily involved with and is being featured in a soon-to-be-released documentary called, The Truth About Reading. Have you ever wondered if schools are teaching the BEST way to learn how to read? Would schools have any incentive to make it more difficult for children to learn to read? Did you ever think that school curriculum could be a political issue?
Liz provides us resources for reading and writing games and discusses how read alouds can do wonders for our children's vocabulary. Do you often go through the day and think, "I never got that 20 minutes to sit down with my child to read?" or, "man, he just watched too much TV today." Well let's fix the issue by providing our kids with access to audiobooks!
Tune in to this week's episode to hear an amazing story from a mom who went as far as getting a certification in Orton-Gillingham just to make sure she was giving her son everything he needed. This episode is filled with valuable information, you definitely don't want to miss it!
#26: How to Teach a Child When You Never Wanted to Become a Teacher
01:08:24
This week we talk with Deanna from New Jersey. Deanna admits she NEVER wanted to homeschool her children. In fact, she says she celebrated the day her last child went off to full day kindergarten! Listen to find out what actually made her decide she needed to bring her three girls home to learn.
Deanna explains how she went about teaching her kids, spending no money what-so-ever, and how she handled her teenage daughter calling her a "Karen" for not following suit with the government orders.
Deanna's bubbly personality and spunkiness will keep you entertained for this hour, for sure! Listen to the full episode to find out why they have changed the way math is done, what standardized tests are really intended for, and how to handle homeschooling with a full time work schedule.

#27: New to Homeschooling: Why More Dads Are Showing Concern Over the State of Today's Education
00:49:22
This week we talk with Victor, father of two, who is beginning his homeschooling journey. Victor and his wife both work in the public school system and agree that they do not want to send their kids to public school. Listen to the full episode to hear their reasons why!
After trying out various options, Victor and his wife agreed that homeschooling and attending a co-op is the best option for them at this time. Victor and I discuss the importance of teaching our kids real world math problems, like being able to measure how much paint is needed to paint a room or how to double ingredients for a recipe, when so much of what is learned in school is not relatable to real life. We also discuss the father's role in a child's education and how important it is starting to become, when parents never really had to think twice about it before.
We chat about the pressures that fathers have to protect their family, while also ensuring that their kids have a fun-loving childhood. Where is the middle ground? You don't want to miss this week's episode, I'm sure many fathers and mothers can relate to the wholesome love that Victor has for his kids and the desire he has to give them the absolute best in life!

Listen to find out what type of family is actually the best kind of homeschooling family! I bet you'll never guess!
Jennifer talks about the need to be present with our kids 💞and how homeschooling is a journey, not a sprint, so we need to stop stressing ourselves out on a daily basis. We are in this for the long haul, so some days will be good, and others will not be, and that's okay!!
We even get into how I prepare my raw diet for my dog🐶!! We finish up having a nice chat about social media, food, and the CDC schedule with new laws trying to get passed every day. You don't want to miss this episode! You may even become a conspiracy theorist🍓 after listening!! 🤣

#30: Your Morning Basket's, Pam Barnhill, and Her Advice to a New Homeschooling Mom
00:46:33
This week, I am so excited to bring you an interview with Your Morning Basket's, Pam Barnhill. As a new homeschooler, I am overwhelmed with curriculum, homeschooling ideas, pressure from family, friends, and my children, and all the potential "fails" possible. Pam helps me break down my fears and organize my homeschooling process into simple, logical and efficient techniques perfect for my children's ages. She also explains how her homeschooling week looks now that she has three older children.
Pam explains what Your Morning Basket is and why it has been so successful among homeschoolers. This method of combining kids to learn together for certain subjects is not only a time saver, but an opportunity to bond as a family.
Pam gives me the ammunition I need in three simple steps when I'm faced with the doubts about homeschooling- and guess what, even Pam has thought, "Am I crazy for homeschooling?! Should I send these kids off on that school bus passing by the house right now?!" - so please remember, you are not alone!
Find out what Pam's advice is on pushing our kids toward college.. or not? She explains how a homeschooler should go about getting into the college of their choice, if that's their path, and what the ultimate goal in Pam's family is.
I hope you love this interview as much as I did. For more on Pam and Your Morning Basket, please check out: https://pambarnhill.com/

#31: Homeschooling with Anxiety and Depression, How One Mom Does It
00:52:04
This week we welcome Lauren, mom of three. Lauren started homeschooling just before covid, after her son came home from school with some discouraging behavioral reports from his teacher. Lauren's son was so saddened by getting the bad report, that he told his mother something no mom ever wants to hear.. soon after, Lauren pulled her kids from school.
After meeting with doctors for her son's ADHD diagnosis and refusing to medicate him, Lauren began exploring other ways to assist her son with learning.
Lauren brings us with her on her own diagnosis of anxiety and depression and discusses when she feels medication is appropriate and when alternatives can be used.
We chat about "strewing", and how Lauren uses this technique with her kids. Strewing is about helping your kids explore and play and create on their own. It's about introducing or reintroducing materials, books, concepts, in a non-pushy way that lets them own the experience and gives them the thrill of discovery. We discuss kid's podcasts, emergency preparedness, and why it's so important to teach kids how to identify manipulation.
Join us for a heartfelt discussion between two moms who don't have it all figured out, but love their kids and are trying each day to better themselves for those little rascals!

#32: How Becoming a Teacher Made Me Realize I Need to Homeschool My Children
01:01:13
Krista joins us this week from Oklahoma, where she homeschools her two girls, ages 11 and 8. Krista went to school to become a teacher and was so excited and full of ideas when it was time to complete her cousework as a student teacher. Her disallusion of how the industry of education really works was quickly shattered when she was told in October how she could not use gummy worms and ketchup as part of a third grade lesson because it had nothing to do with what was on the test in June. Krista was disiplined for questioning the authority figure about this and soon decided that education was not the right path for her if she was not free to teach kids in a way that was fun for them.
Krista researched private schools to put her, then baby, into one day but kept coming back to the thought, "why would I pay someone to do this when I can do it myself?" She began researching what homeschooling was all about and the first book she picked up was John Taylor Gotto's, Dumbing Us Down. From there, she was sold. This was the path for her family.
Krista's excitment for homeschooling shines through the airwaves. Her emphasis on reading good quality books with your child really takes the pressure off us homeschooling parents because that is something we can all do- and it's free with a library card. Krista believes that if reading together is the only thing you did for schoolwork that day- you have had a successful day!
Join us for this inspirational chat and get excited to be on this journey with your little ones. A journey where no one can tell you you can't use gummy worms and ketchup to ignite the flame of a life long learner.

#33: Rich Living- What Homeschooling Has the Ability To Offer If We Let It
00:59:56
This week we talk with Amberlee Rich from Idaho. Former art teacher turned homeschool mom and financial coach, Amberlee walks us through what made her decide to homeschool her children. Have you ever felt your child was not safe when you dropped them off at school?? Amberlee tells us about that experience.
Soon after feeling unsafe in the school system, Amberlee's daughter was diagnosed with MIS-C, a Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome in Children (MIS-C). It is a rare condition associated with SARS-CoV-2 (the virus that causes COVID-19) that usually occurs 2-6 weeks after a child is infected with SARS-CoV-2. MIS-C causes different internal and external body parts to become inflamed, including the heart, lungs, kidneys, brain, skin, eyes, or gastrointestinal tract. After Amberlee's daughter's diagnosis, she knew home was the best place for her kids.
We talk about the importance of teaching financial literacy to our children starting at an early age and how you can incorporate it into your everyday homeschooling life (no extra curriculum needed!)
Amberlee explains how she juggles teaching two kids at different levels, and how she picks the books they read.
Are you wondering- how has homeschooling been going for ME?? Oh goodness- you don't want to miss this! I ask Amberlee how she handles the situation when her kids just want to be crazy and not pay attention to that pesky ol' school work, and her response is SO SIMPLE!
We discuss, "Is homeschooling for everyone?" and when it might not be for you.
You can contact Amberlee by emailin Amberlee@richlivingcoaching.com Schedule a free Q&A Session with Amberlee to see how financial coaching can help you. Here are her social media links: TikTok Facebook Instagram

#35: Why A Homeschooled Mom and Dad Are Choosing Homeschool For Their Kids
01:02:36
Anna and her husband, Donny, were both homeschooled and are now choosing to homeschool their four children. And guess what?! None of them seem weird!! 😁
Anna explains what she liked and didn't like about her homeschooling experience and what Donny would likely say about his. We talk about what they are doing differently with their own kids and why. Anna mentions how prior to 1988, homeschooling in New York State was illegal and how Anna knew some of the people who fought on the front lines for the rights we have currently. Would parents have that sort of tenacity today if we were faced with jail time for choosing to homeschool?
We chat about ways to keep the little ones occupied while trying to work with the older children and we also discuss screen time and what Anna and Donny choose for their children. Is Disney part of it?? You'll have to listen to find out!
Anna's family recently bought land where they are expanding their farm and documenting the process along the way with fun how-to videos that you can check out on their Instagram account @Schroederhillsidefarm.

#36 How To Homeschool Your Blended Family and Why Public and Charter Schools Just Didn’t Work
01:10:07
This week we welcome Allisia, or "Babe" as everyone (including her kids, neighbors and mailman) calls her, from Colorado! Allisia is a mom of six- two stepsons and four biological children. Allisia chats with us about how her family is on their third phase of their homeschooling journey- trying everything from public school, charter school and homeschool, to find the right fit. Allisia explains the issues her kids had in each school, like a screaming principle in the lunchroom of an elementary school, and what ultimately lead them to homeschool.
I ask Allisia about homeschooling stepkids and how the children's biological mother feels about Allisia being the kid's primary educator.
We discuss how homeschooling allows us the time to do what we really want to do with our extra time- but what does that mean for kids who don't know what to do with their time? We talk about how video games can be an easy trap for kids and how the growing brain actually changes the way it develops based on the number of screen changes it sees, causing quick dopamine hits, and how that affects ADD and ADHD.
Have you ever asked, "Why do I need to know this?" Well, I have too. We discuss what is actually necessary to know and how it's all based on our world view.
Allisia asks parents, "do you believe your child has a unique set of skills, experiences and way of thinking and a destiny they're meant to fulfill in this world?" If so, then how can we justify sending our kids to an institution that makes them all cookie cutter products? Mind-blown!!!!
This interview is touching, inspiring, and thought-provoking! You definitely don't want to miss it!

#38 How To Shift Your Homeschool from "Something To Get Through" to "A Way of Life", with Curriculum Expert Amber Coglianese
00:53:39
This week we sit with Amber Coglianese, a momma who homeschooled all five of her children. They are adults now, so we chat about what homeschooling kids back in the 90s and early 2000s was like.
I ask Amber, a homeschool curriculum expert, "what is the best curriculum to use?" You may be surprised at her answer. Amber matches people up with curriculums just as a wedding dress seller matches future brides with their dream dress.
We discuss how to make your homeschool a "way of life" instead of just something to "get through"- so your day can begin. We also talk about the difference between having a schedule and having a rhythm.
Amber tells us how she managed homeschooling five kids at one time; what subjects could be taught together, and what should be done independently. She explains how she kept the little ones occupied as she worked with the older kids.
Since her children are all grown up now, Amber started Storybook Umbrella- which has since been changed to Backpack Homeschool. Follow Amber @BackpackHomeschool on Instagram to:
🌎Travel the World Through Children’s Literature 🎒 Unpack How to Homeschool 💛 Helping Families Foster a Love of Learning
We also chat about why poetry is important- as I had no clue why it is recommended for us to read poetry to our kids.
We discuss what kids need to know by each age- don't miss what Amber says on this!!
And what is Amber's advice on what to do when you and your little homeschoolers are just constantly butting heads during homeschool time? Her recommendation on this is a must, and it's so simple.
This is an interview I am very proud to release. Hearing from the moms who completed the homeschooling journey with their kids and what advice they have for us moms just starting out is priceless. I hope you enjoy this conversation as much as I did!

#39: How One Mom Left Her Teaching Job to Start a Farm School
00:44:58
What a pleasure to be joined by Brittni this week, homeschooling mom of three and owner of Henrieka Farm Center, a farm school she created in New York after leaving her teaching position. Brittni is also a member of the military, so we thank her for her service to our country.
Brittni explains to us the importance of doing things for our community, whether it be providing farm fresh food to those in need, or providing a screen free, nature filled before and after care for the local school children.
I ask Brittni how she came to the decision to leave her career and steady income to homeschool her children and open her farm school. She explains the steps she went through to make such a decision. We discuss how the land she and her husband purchased was once a cottage for the socialites of Albany, NY. Brittni started out by raising chickens and expanded over the years. She even explains to us how she "tanned the hide" this year- and yes, I had to ask her what that meant!
Brittni created Henrieka Farm Center to nurture children through free play, calculated and supervised risk and to provide an education into the field of agriculture, directly connecting kids to not only the world around them, but their food supply. The children at Brittni's school learn from a young age how to take care of themselves and others. They learn through experiencing fundamental literacy and educational practices to develop themselves into productive and engaged citizens of their communities.
I think it's safe to say that more of these types of schools are needed in our country. There is such a disconnect today with kids to nature and the food they consume and it's only growing worse with the more we rely on screens. I hope Brittni's message finds those who need or want to hear it and I hope we can work together to bring experiences like this to the children of our communities.

#46: What is a Logical Fallacy and How Do We Teach Kids to Identify Them with Kathy Gibbens
00:57:55
Embark on a personal and enlightening expedition with me, Cheryl, as we navigate the waters of homeschooling alongside Kathy Gibbens of the "Filter it Through a Brain Cell" podcast. Kathy is a homeschool Mom who first learned about logical fallacies along with her 7th grade daughter. She quickly realized that this little-taught skill is essential for navigating all the crazy messages we are being bombarded with by culture. Last year, Kathy got off the bench and launched her podcast, where she teaches critical thinking in short, fun episodes and is passionate about helping the next generation learn to think well and love God with their mind.
Together, we uncover the rich tapestry of motivations that lead families to educate from home, challenging the stereotypes and embracing a philosophy of independent thought and strong values. Kathy draws from her well of experience, revealing the profound ways in which homeschooling can cultivate discernment in young minds, amidst a sea of media narratives and persuasive propaganda.
In our latest episode, we're not just talking about the logistics of teaching math or phonics at home; we're delving into the essence of what it means to truly learn. Kathy and I dissect the strategies for nurturing critical thinkers, using everyday situations to expose fallacies and biases that so often cloud our judgment. Whether it's through engaging discussions or the simple act of reading together, education unfurls as a personal journey rather than a one-size-fits-all curriculum, unlocking the boundless potential within each child.
As we close this chapter, we ponder the paths that unfold beyond the homeschooling horizon, where traditional routes of education make way for innovation and self-driven success. Kathy illuminates the exciting prospects for homeschooled children as they embrace entrepreneurship and alternative learning, crafting a future that resonates with their individual passions. For parents and children alike, this conversation is a testament to the power of choice in education and an invitation to redefine what it means to live a fulfilled and continuously learning life.

#49: An Energized Dive into Truth, Education, and Family Dynamics with Homeschooling Dad, Mario
-1:-1:-1
When I first crossed paths with Mario from Idaho, a father who's taken the reins of his children's education, I knew his story held depth beyond the lessons of textbooks. Our chat unveils a world where the heart of learning beats within the home's four walls, and the curriculum extends to life's complex questions. Mario's resolve to homeschool was kindled by his skepticism towards public education and the profound realization that maybe, just maybe, there's more to schooling than what meets the eye.
In an age where history's narratives are as varied as the sources presenting them, Mario and I traverse the contentious topics like the Civil War and the shifting tides of America's ideologies. From Ron Paul's influence to the potency of personal responsibility and property rights, the conversation is a mosaic of critical thought. We reflect on the art of steering our children towards truth amidst a sea of bias, nurturing independent minds poised to shape their destinies.
Finally, Mario and I ponder the fabric of family life, with social security's threads tugging at the traditional tapestry. We explore the impact of media and government policies on young intellects and the sacred task of parenting. Infused with personal tales, our dialogue invites you to witness the beauty and trials of a homeschooling journey—where every day is as much a lesson for the children as it is for the father forging future citizens, thinkers, and leaders.

When Chris, homeschooling dad from New York, first suggested home education to his wife, it was with a conviction born from his own childhood schooling experiences he was determined to shield his own children from. What unfolds is a heart-to-heart with Chris about the transformative journey of homeschooling, which has not only reshaped his family's dynamic but also redefined his role within it. Our conversation traverses the emotional terrains of parenting, the cultural shift toward reevaluating education, and the organic moments of learning that happen outside the confines of a traditional classroom.
As the day unwinds, Chris and I delve into the practicalities of educating children at home, from addressing the socialization question to selecting curricula that go beyond academic theory to include vital survival skills. The authenticity of learning through life's informal moments, like turning a child's fascination with a caterpillar into a teachable moment, is a joy we both relish. We also navigate the sometimes thorny issues of balancing familial duties, the internal struggle of contributing to the household without a personal income, and the societal perceptions that often accompany these decisions.
By the close of our exchange, we reflect on the broader implications of our educational choices on our children's futures. Reinforcing the significance of critical thinking and a rounded historical understanding, we stand by the philosophy that homeschooling is a pathway to nurture well-rounded, inquisitive thinkers. I'm left with a deep appreciation for Chris's candidness as we share a mutual acknowledgment of the complexities and triumphs found in the homeschooling landscape. If our exploration into alternative education and its impact on family life resonates with you, I invite you to join us in this enriching dialogue, and perhaps take away a fresh perspective on learning and living.
