08 Jun 2023Got IBS? No problem! w/ Kim Del Castillo, FDNP00:57:27

Is it really possible that the Functional Diagnostic Nutrition certification program is as good as creating careers as it is solving complex health issues? The answer is absolutely YES, and graduates like Kim prove that for us every day.

Kim Del Castillo, FDNP, had been homeschooling her kids while also dealing with VERY annoying health symptoms such as IBS. She even said to us in this episode that it got bad enough to where she couldn't go ANYWHERE without knowing where the bathroom was/would be.

Nowadays, her kids are older and Kim has never felt better. She has a thriving FDN practice, works the hours she wants to, and best yet, she's making a real impact helping people!

Thank you so much to Kim for leading by example and showing others what is possible with the FDN system. We also appreciate how transparently and openly you shared your story, as THAT is what others truly relate to and benefit from 🙂.

09 May 2022From Terrible Gut Issues To Having a Wait List FDN Biz w/ Kristin Thomas, FDN-P00:58:52

On this episode, we're talking to FDN-extraordinaire, Kristin Thomas!

While Kristin is now focused solely on helping other FDN Practitioners and health coaches run successful businesses, before this, her health was a mess. She dealt with debilitating pain in her gut, and this landed her in the hospital on numerous occassions.

Like so many of us stuck in the cycle of trial and error (trying medication after medication and visiting doctor after doctor without relief/success), Kristin eventually realized she'd have to go elsewhere if she wanted to avoid surgery. Thankfully for her, there was systems out there that were able to get to the bottom of what she was dealing with, the most impactful of which was the FDN system!

Kristin's success in working with her own FDN practitioner led her to pursuing the course herself and starting her own FDN business. Within months of beginning, she had already developed a wait-list practice, and was able to do the work full-time!

Because of her success, Kristin now takes both her background in marketing and FDN to help other practitioners start their own successful businesses. In this episode, Detective Ev and Kristin will cover her health challenges for the first 30-35 minutes, and biz questions after that!

About Kristin: Kristin Thomas is the CEO & Founder of Health & Wellness Business School, a nationally recognized business and marketing school helping health and wellness practitioners to authentically increase their impact and income.

Her and her team specialize in organic marketing, social media, authentic sales strategies, copywriting, client experience, and much more. She guides her clients to gain the confidence and know-how to step into the CEO role of their business so they can attract their dream clients, run a full and fun business, and reach financial freedom.

As a marketing professional for the last 12+ years, she's helped hundreds of companies create and scale their businesses through organic marketing strategies, content storytelling, and human-to-human conversations. She's written well over 10,000 social media posts, over 500 web pages, and even worked for Twitter itself.

She’s been featured for her advice on marketing in publications including Inc Magazine, Entrepreneur, and Forbes.

Today we have a special guest, and it's not just because of his knowledge in functional health and mobility!

Dr. Ben Torres is a good friend of Detective Ev's, and in a sense, he's one of the main reasons Ev is even a podcaster! More importantly, he is a doctor of Physical Therapy who greatly appreciates what we do at FDN, and has run the labs himself for his own health challenges.

On this episode, we'll briefly touch on some of the health challenges Dr. Torres has went through, and then we'll spend the rest of the time focusing on tips and tricks those of us who work from home can do to make sure we are covering mobility in our health plan.

08 Jan 2024Got Mold? (Pt. 2) w/ Jason Earle01:06:02

Well folks, you LOVED this guest the first time we spoke to him, so we brought him back for round two as fast as we could. His name is Jason Earle, and he's the founder of Got Mold?.

The first time Jason joined us, he gave us what could only be labeled as a masterclass on mold and mold testing, challenging many of the commonly held beliefs in our industry when it comes to dealing with this rampant problem. This time around, we tried to cover everything we missed in the first one, including but not limited to the best air purifiers to put in your home (whether you actively have mold or not), and even the legal rights you have if you discover mold in a place you're renting. This is one of those episodes where it's best to have a notebook handy, so go grab one for you start listening!

19 Oct 2023Beating Cancer And The Secrets To A Great Mood w/ Annie Mabashov, FDNP00:52:15

Imagine you go into the doctor's for something that SEEMS like it will have a simple fix, only to get told that, instead, you have a disease that every single one of us fear: cancer. For our guest today on The Health Detective Podcast, Annie Mabashov, this hypothetical scenario was once her reality.

Interestingly, this is NOT another story about someone beating cancer naturally (even though, obviously, these are all amazing stories/testimonials). In today's episode, we are focusing on dealing with "chemo-brain" and the main issues that arise AFTER someone has finished their cancer treatment. We have seen this to be a very underserved community in the functional medicine space, and we are so glad to have Annie on to share her knowledge/experience.

In addition (since most of us are nerds with a bunch of side passions in the health space), we will also talk about a favorite topic of Annie's, which is how our lifestyle affects our mood and mental health.

All of this and more is going down in this jam-packed, inspiring episode!

Imagine that you are doing seemingly EVERYTHING right in terms of taking care of your health, only to get told things aren't going as planned.

13 Oct 2022How To ACTUALLY Analyze Thyroid Markers w/ Ryan Monahan, FDN-P01:01:43

On today's episode of The Health Detective Podcast, we are analyzing Detective Ev's thyroid labs with one of the most knowledgeable Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioners out there, Ryan Monahan!

Ryan was the first guest we ever interviewed on this show, and deservedly so. This is a guy who suffered for YEARS with some of the worst fatigue imaginable, as well as depression and many other health symptoms. Fast-track to today, and Ryan is now one of FDN's clinical advisors with a booming business, too.

Overtime, Ryan accumulated multiple advanced certificates through FDN (and other institutes), one of them being granted for the completion of FDN's advanced thyroid training. Because of this, he is the perfect person to helps us dive deep into the thyroid labs we're discussing today.

We hope you enjoy this episode!

***You can watch the video version of this podcast here: https://youtu.be/TJT5Srn2KBM

About Ryan:

Ryan Monahan is an FDN-P Level III, board certified health coach, Clinical Advisor, and Certified AIP Coach.

He has a passion for uncovering hidden stressors that contribute to thyroid disease. Throughout his journey, Ryan spent over 10 frustrating years visiting more than 40 health professionals to find answers to his chronic health complaints until being diagnosed with Hashimoto’s in 2012. Since then, his mission has been to change the dialogue about chronic disease towards a holistic, functional approach while helping others restore their health to normal function.

Typically, his clients are people who have struggled with finding relief from their autoimmune symptoms. Oftentimes, they feel that they’ve “tried everything”, and that traditional medicine hasn’t served them. In his experience, there is a better way.

06 Feb 2023Sports Injuries, Cystic Acne, And What The Right (or Wrong) Mindset Can Do For Your Health w/ Leigh Brandon, FDN-P, CHEK Practitioner, CHEK Faculty00:54:39

Leigh was obsessed with sports as a child (and still is) and has always been active. At age 14, he began weight training in his school’s gym, but started taking it seriously at 23. At the age of 27, Leigh completed his first course with the American College of Sports Medicine and his career took off from there!

Since then, he's been passionate about learning and turning that knowledge into wisdom through the experience of what is now over 26 years working with clients. Leigh has always sought the ‘best of the best’ to learn from and is as passionate about his work and gaining knowledge now as he was in 1996.

He's studied many different disciplines, including corrective exercise, strength and conditioning, tennis conditioning, nutrition, functional diagnostic nutrition, energy medicine, Bio Geometry, and manual therapy, to name a few. This has given Leigh the ability to provide a truly holistic approach to helping clients over the years, which they have found very effective, often after other approaches hadn’t helped them.

Leigh has formally studied with some of the world’s greatest minds such as Paul Chek, Bill Wolcott, Dr John Veltheim, Dr Michael Leahy, Dr Dietrich Klinghardt and Dr Ibrahim Karim.

Nowadays, most of Leigh's work includes helping clients overcome injuries, gut conditions, and skin conditions.

27 Apr 2023Use NLP To Support Your Client’s Results w/ Gabriela Couto00:53:54
Well folks, she's back!   Last time we had Gabriela on, she was talking to us about the dangers of fluoride, and how her former career as a dental hygenist took a huge turn when she discovered what was really going on with this compound. If you didn't get to check that episode out, click HERE to listen now.    This time, she is back to talk with us about her other area of expertise, NLP!   NLP stands for neuro-linguistic programming. It is a powerful technique that can be used directly in your consulting/coaching with clients in order to help them achieve better results faster. Now who wouldn't want that?! As a bonus, you'll probably learn a thing or two about how to get YOURSELF to do the things you know you need to do, OR how to take in new information you're learning faster by undrestanding how you process that information.    We want to thank Gabriela for taking the time to join us again, and if you like what she is sharing, please consider shooting her a message of gratitude via her Instagram (listed below).    About Gabriela:   Gabriela assists people in realigning the posture of their heart by massaging the mental, spiritual, and emotional body through NLP & energy to experience a present and rich life with depth.   Where to find Gabriela:    IG: @Yogabriela.c   Think it would be COOL to coach clients with NLP, but don't have anything to coach on yet? 28 Sep 2023Salon Owner Tackles Hair Loss with FDN00:52:00

Is there anything functional medicine CAN'T do? Apparently not, as our guest today, Carrie Hicks, is teaching us how we can even prevent/delay HAIR LOSS through a functional approach.

A long-time stylist and salon owner, Carrie isn't a stranger to working with people who are starting to lose their hair. What WAS new for her, however, was the dramatic increase in hair loss that occurred shortly after the pandemic began. Seeing this firsthand, she was fascinated by what was happening and wanted to give her clients a solution.

Not only did she find the solution for her clients, but the research process transformed her into a health detective, too!

Now, Carrie is on a mission to spread the word that hair loss, contrary to popular belief, can become a thing of the PAST for many people.

We hope you enjoy this episode. Please feel free to ask us any questions by shooting us a direct message @fdntraining. Or talk to Carrie directly @nurish.d

More About Carrie:

Carrie Hicks is a hairstylist and salon owner that had to start looking for real answers to her clients' hair loss after the pandemic in 2020 when an alarming number of female clients lost more than half their hair.  Already certified as a Holistic Nutritionist, not one to believe in quick fixes or band-aids, and on her own self-healing journey, she set out on a journey to find the actual causes of hair loss, and how to successfully treat it.

She took advanced hair loss education courses, attended the World Congress of Trichology, and studied everything she could get her hands on.  She found that most people experiencing hair loss are given prescription medications that can affect one’s hormone health negatively and that 9 times out of 10 no labs were run to assess or manage the effects of these meds.  Other treatments can be invasive, painful, and very expensive, and while they can be effective, if the actual hidden stressors and underlying causes of the hair loss are not addressed, the results obtained with these treatments won’t last long.

Carrie founded Nurish.d Hair loss + Wellness two years ago where she has been helping women with hair loss but knew something was missing in being able to really get to the root cause. She then chose the only logical choice, to become a Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner.  Now she does functional lab testing to help her clients see the big picture of their health and identify the actual contributing factors to their hair loss.

Carrie specializes in working with women experiencing hair loss from a wide range of health issues, including PCOS, hypothyroid, insulin resistance, menopause, digestive issues, and chronic stress.  She is currently training her stylists how to help their own clients with a functional perspective on hair loss and is creating a program for other stylists to follow as well because she knows the important role stylists play in their clients' lives and that they have a front row seat to any changes in their health status.

She is the founder of Crimson & Clover Hair Studio in Flagstaff, AZ and Nurish.d Hair Loss + Wellness and is a licensed Cosmetologist, a Certified Holistic Nutritionist, and a Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner.

Within two years of graduating from the FDN program, Nicole had already worked with TWO HUNDRED clients. In addition, she got her health to a place that was better than ever before, despite having previously dealt with PCOS, depression, and a multitude of other symptoms.

25 May 2023Our NEW Health Coach Mastery Program w/ Dr. Lori Rose, PhD, FDN-P, AHG, NBC-HWC00:43:31

If we had a dollar for every time someone signed up for the main FDN course because a random health coaching course they took prior to finding us didn't fit their needs, let's just say we'd be taking some extra staff vacations!

Because of this, we said "You know what, there HAS to be a better way..." And POOF! Just like that, we created our Health Coach Mastery program.

Health Coach Mastery is FDN's newly released coaching program. As FDN practitioners, we normally consider ourselves to be consultants as opposed to coaches. However, we also recognize the demand and need for the coaching skills side of things. This new program fits those needs perfectly, and it is something that can be taken by anyone interested in this field, regardless of whether or not they've gone through the main FDN program :).

If you're still a bit confused after listening to this, feel free to book a call with one of our Course Enrollment Advisors. Go to fdntraining.com/call.

About Dr. Lori:

Lori Valentine Rose, PhD, is a board certified nutrition professional (CNP), board certified holistic nutrition consultant (BCHN), certified Functional Diagnostic Nutrition® Practitioner (FDN-P), board registered herbalist (RH-AHG), board certified wellness coach (NBC-HWC), teacher, wife, and mom.  She is a passionate student of nutrition, herbalism, spirituality, and pretty much anything that makes our minds, bodies, souls, and planet a better place to inhabit. She has taught biology and nutrition at a local community college for around ten years, and has been back-yard organic gardening for around five years, in addition to pursuing clinical herbalism for several years.

11 Feb 2022How to Heal Your Hunger For Good (Beat Emotional Eating) w/ Tricia Nelson00:52:47

While we're not talking about a chronic physical or mental health challenge today, this interview is still just as appropriate for this podcast as any other we've put out. Why? Because we discuss with our guest, Tricia Nelson, all about emotional eating!

Detective Ev and Tricia have both dealt with their own forms of emotional eating, and this problem can lead to different sets of consequences depending on the person. One thing is for sure, though. If you are wanting to pursue a healing program like FDNthrive, it would be fantastic to utilize Tricia's work in conjunction with ours. This way, you'll have the abilty to effectively IMPLEMENT the protocol recommendations, instead of letting food addiction hold you back.

About Tricia:

Tricia Nelson lost fifty pounds by identifying and healing the underlying causes of her emotional eating. Tricia has spent over thirty years researching the hidden causes of the food addiction. Tricia is an Emotional Eating Expert and author of the #1 bestselling book, Heal Your Hunger, 7 Simple Steps to End Emotional Eating Now. She is also the host of the popular podcast, The Heal Your Hunger Show. Tricia is a TEDx speaker, a highly regarded coach, and has been featured on The List, NBC, CBS, KTLA, FOX and Discovery Health.

20 Apr 2023INCREDIBLE Mental Health Testimonial From An FDN Client w/ Lucas Wolfe01:11:32

You asked, and we listened! We brought on an FDN client to tell their story and share their results.

Recently, it's been suggested by quite a few people that we should start highlighting some individuals who have worked directly with FDNs, as opposed to those who are actually in the health space as practitioners. We thought this was a great idea, and will likely continue to do this in the future, too. For today, though, we brought on Lucas Wolfe, a gentleman who suffered with rather severe mental health issues starting in his late teens.

For almost a decade, Lucas was getting help for his issues through western medicine. Western medicine actually DID help him to a significant degree, but he always knew in the back of his head that he'd ideally like to not rely on medications if he didn't have to. Because of this, he finally gave functional medicine a chance. It's a good thing he did, too, because when you hear how quick the results occurred, you'll be shocked in the best way possible!

A huge thank you to Lucas for coming on and sharing his story when he has nothing to gain from it other than helping others. Those are the BEST types of people. We hope you enjoy this episode :).

About Lucas:

Lucas is currently an engineer, but has also worked as a mental health speaker. He is the author of “My Perfect Life: How Depression Almost Ended It and How I Found Purpose Through Pain".

Want to help your clients get results like Lucas? Then you should become a certified FDN and join our community! Go to fdntraining.com/course to read more about what you'll learn in the program.

Did you know that infertility rates are increasing worldwide? In fact, it was reported just in August of this year that the current rate of infertility amongst women is as high as 1 in 6!

Knowing this, an obvious question that might pop up in your head is, "What the heck is happening?"

Our guest today on The Health Detective Podcast, Courtney Saye, not only experienced this seemingly modern phenomenon herself, but has cracked at least part of the code as to what is going on.

Although this can be an extremely emotional toipc for people who have wanted so badly to have children but haven't had success yet, there IS HOPE. Better yet? It might not be nearly as complicated as you think...

02 Oct 2023Trauma’s Impact On Our Nervous System w/ Vennessa McConkey, FDNP01:01:35

Link to Vennessa's first episode can be found on Apple by clicking here, or Spotify by clicking here

Vennessa is a passionate, energetic, tenacious woman, wife and mom of three young boys. She has always believed in helping people whether it be in the community, schools or corporate world. Her career started early, since both her parents and grandparents were business owners. "Hard work" was highly valued in her family. She attended a science and engineering academy through most of high school, attended Southern Illinois University for Industrial Engineering Technology - graduating in 3 years. She worked her way up the corporate ladder very quickly and found herself running organizations at a young age.

During the course of all this corporate success, she was diagnosed with a rare disease - leaving her relying on many different medical professionals. She finally ended her corporate career and her husband and her became pregnant with their first son. Life seemed good. She started a resume writing and executive career coaching business where the skills she learned in corporate, once again created great success. But two things happened: (1) her health took a nose-dive, and (2) she noticed 85% of her clients struggled with health issues that were affecting how they performed at work. No longer could she morally help people find jobs if their health was affecting more than just them.

In taking a sabbatical, she uncovered some hefty relational issues with her husband and her parents, leading to her discovery of functional nutrition and FDN, that ultimately uncovered how trauma creates disease. Now as a board-certified holistic autoimmune and trauma recovery practitioner, FDN-P, certified functional nutrition coach, speaker and author, Vennessa educates and empowers people to take control of their fatigue and pain during the in-between moments, while confidently owning their journey so they can live a vibrant life.

11 May 2023BEST Whole Food Supplement On The Market? w/ Steven Abbey00:52:32
Detective Ev here. I have to be honest about something right off the bat with this episode of our podcast...   When I was sent Steven's media sheet by his scheduler, I didn't immediately register it as anything special. It's not that there was anything wrong with the content, but I saw some things about vitamins and nutrients, as well as how our foods aren't up to par for what we should we be eating. This is Functional Medicine 101, right? Don't we all know this already?   In comes Steven Abbey, our guest today.   Steven takes nutrition to a whole new level, and he is DEEPLY involved in the science aspect of it all. I found myself pleasently humbled as I interviewed him, as he continued to rattle off things I had never even heard before again and again. Even more important is Steven's heart. I really do mean it when I say that it became quickly apparent to me that this guy is doing this for all the right reasons. His passion is obvious, and he has already done quite well for himself in other unrelated fields. His mission for truth and quality of ingredients is what drives him!   I hope you guys and gals enjoy this episode and learn a thing or two. I REALLY enjoyed this one!   About Steven:   Steven Abbey has taken a novel approach to the health and wellness industry with the establishment of SOS Nutrients, a Santa Barbara-based smoothie Steven’s interdisciplinary background, featuring degrees in economics and psychology from the University of Colorado, has allowed him to develop a comprehensive understanding of economy, politics, and healthcare. His diverse career encompasses significant roles such as Co-Owner of Neighborhood Power Inc., a solar development company that achieved $40 million in backorders in 2016, and Owner and Co-Founder of Allied Logistics, a Ventura-based aerospace manufacturing and exporting firm that was awarded Small Business Exporter of the Year in 2003. In addition to his entrepreneurial pursuits, Steven has demonstrated a commitment to philanthropy by co-founding the non-profit organization Adopt-A-Pet in 1996. The initiative has since facilitated homes for over 2 million pets and increased its annual operating budget to over $2 million.   His innovative approach to the health and wellness industry, exemplified by SOS Nutrients, showcases the potential for further advancements in the field, driven by sustainable and wholesome product development.   Provided Links:   https://sosnutrients.com/https://sosnutrients.com/discount/HD20 https://www.facebook.com/SOSNutrients https://www.instagram.com/sos_nutrients/   BOOK Steven Mentioned: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1601630905/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1   Want to check out the Functional Diagnostic Nutrition certification program and help others with their health? Learn more about us at fdntraining.com/course.

28 Dec 20213 Books To Establish A Rock-Solid Mindset For Your Health Journey w/ Detective Ev00:18:33

We are continuing our short, sweet, and to-the-point episodes for the holiday season with another solo episode from Detective Ev!

In this episode, Ev is talking about 3 of his favorite books that help us develop the mindset/habits needed to truly complete a health journey. Why is this important? Well, think about it...

Do you know EVERYTHING that we know at FDNthrive? Of course not. Our practitioners are specially trained in this! However, isn't it true that you probably could name at LEAST 3-5 things that would positively benefit your health if you were to start doing them today, yet you find yourself not doing them? Why is that? It's not a lack of knowledge, it's a mindset that needs some tweaking (and that's perfectly normal, and something every single one of us experiences).

The book recommendations in this episode are meant to help you with that mindset tweaking as painlessly as possible.

What are some of your favorite books to help develop a strong mindset? We'd love to hear from you!

You can find out more about FDNthrive by going to www.fdnthrive.com

21 Sep 2023Respect the Rest: The Antidote to 21st Century Burnout Culture w/ Scott Shortmeyer, FDNP00:53:14

While we do not like to stereotype, on paper, Scott Shortmeyer is one of those people that we'd least expect to get into the world of functional medicine and natural healing. After some significant warning signs from his body, though, Scott knew it was time for a change. Thanks to the help of his wife, he was able to get on the right track fairly quickly!

Like so many of our guests, Scott has now effectively turned his pain into his passion, and proudly hosts The Rest and Recovery Podcast. In addition, he is a recent FDN graduate who is now working with (primarily) men to help them stay healthy long after their youthful years have passed.

In case you missed his bio, here is more about Michael:

About Michael:

Michael began his journey as a coach at a young age by coaching Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, boxing, and various other martial arts. He used martial arts as a way to reach kids who were in need of a positive activity to bring about positive transformation. Through proper education in the raw, living food lifestyle, realignment with his core values, and mentorship he is now a professional, certified coach who has dedicated his life to helping humanity.

Michael is a professional lifestyle medicine and life coach. He earned a Lifestyle Medicine Certification from Hippocrates Health Institute and a Life Coaching diploma from Noble Manhattan USA. He is an accredited Practitioner Coach through the International Authority for Professional Coaching and Mentoring. A few staples in his life for stabilization are the steady practice and study of Ashtanga yoga, mentorship from one of the closest people in his life, Taita Pedro, who is a traditional indigenous ancestral doctor, and continuing his education. Michael continues to seek self-improvement because he lives under the understanding that a candle’s light can only be as strong as the size of the flame.

06 Nov 2023The Biology Of Trauma w/ Dr.Aimie Apigian00:57:28

Although trauma and its effects on the body are being discussed more and more in the worlds of natural and functional medicine, for many practitioners, there is still a huge disconnect as to what the actual SCIENCE shows when it comes to trauma's impact on our bodies.

With our guest today on The Health Detective Podcast, Dr. Aimie Apigian, there is NO NEED to wonder any longer as to what the science is telling us. The impact of trauma IS real, and each body can perceive different situations and circumstances as traumatic.

Dr. Aimie's personal experience with trauma was profound enough that she has now dedicated her entire life's work educating the medical system and patients as to how they can effectively work through trauma they may have acquired throughout the years.

If you enjoyed this episode, please shoot Dr. Aimie a message on her Instagram to let her know you appreciate her! www.instagram.com/draimie

About Dr. Aimie:

Dr. Aimie is a double Board-Certified Physician, boarded in both Preventive and Addiction Medicine with Double Masters degrees in Biochemistry and Public Health. She graduated from Loma Linda University in 2010 with her medical degree where she then went on to 3.5 years of general surgery residency. Having been a foster mom and then adoptive mom, she had personal experience with trauma in her home and then non-profit working with other adoptive families and their children until trauma became her own personal story with her body giving in during her surgery residency training.

Through all of these life experiences, she has discovered that life experiences become one's biology, and that trauma is more than our psychology. It requires a specific process and a holistic integrative approach for addressing stored trauma in the body. She left her thriving conventional addiction medicine practice, is a certified functional medicine physician and has numerous trainings and certifications in functional medicine, mental health, addiction and trauma therapy modalities.

Seeing the huge gap in both medicine and mental health for addressing stored trauma and its effects on the body, her mission is now to help 1 million people accelerate their trauma healing journey by addressing the Biology of Trauma, and to bring the model of the Biology of Trauma to every medical and mental health educational system by the year 2041. She does this through her business, Trauma Healing Accelerated, her podcast, The Biology of Trauma with 130,000 downloads, an active youtube channel, free Masterclasses, her annual Biology of Trauma Summits with almost 200,000 registrations, but ultimately inviting people to her educational and experiential courses for individuals and her professional certificate training program.

26 Jun 2023Healing Power of PEPTIDES w/ Awais Spall, FDN-P00:59:28

Functional medicine can be tricky. On the one hand, there are SO MANY healing modalities that are 100% rooted in solid, up to date science.

On the other hand, there are ALWAYS things that people are trying (and swearing by) that might not have the human studies to back them up quite yet. When this happens, we think the right thing to do is to simply share stories to bring AWARENESS to the subject, not necessarily so that people go out and try these things.

With all this said, our repeat guest today, Awais Spall, is a former chemist and active Functional Diagnostic Nutrition practitioner that has some INCREDIBLE healing stories of peptides.

What are peptides exactly? How are they administered? Where can you find them and are they safe?

All of these questions and more are shared in this episode. We hope you enjoy, and as always, please feel free to reach out to us with any questions on Instagram @fdntraining.

LOOKING FOR THE FDN SUMMER OPEN HOUSE? Go to fdntraining.com/summer to view the schedule now, OR go to fdntraining.com/vip to access the recordings of each event.

About Awais:

Awais Spall is a certified Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner.

About 11 years ago, he began to experience a strange myriad of digestive issues and muscle spasms. He was soon diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Irritable Bowel Disease. Over the next few years, Awais saw over 30 doctors, a process that cost him thousands in medical debt with no major change in symptoms. Then in 2017, he decided to take his health into his own hands through Functional Diagnostic Nutrition’s training program. Alongside FDN, he pursued a rigorous study of Ayurveda, an ancestral form of healing that holds so many keys to wellness.

Through the Combination of Functional Medicine and Ayurveda, Awais noticed dramatic improvements in his digestion and energy, in only a matter of weeks! Today, his mission is to share his unique approach to empower those that are suffering and, like him, are unsatisfied with conventional medicine.

18 Jan 2022OCD, Anxiety, and a Hidden Gluten Sensitivty w/ Courtney Hayes00:46:32
Funny enough, Courtney and Detective Ev grew up only 20 minutes from each other, but wouldn't meet until years later through mutual friends in Florida. Go figure! Add to that is that they have VERY similar health stories, especially when it comes to their early manifestation of mental health symptoms that were not trauma related. About Courtney: After a 15 year battle with her own health, which was both physical and mental, Courtney took matters into her own hands and discovered what a 180 degree change of healing looks like through the use of holistic nutrition. Courtney studied at the Institute of Integrative Nutrition, becoming a certified holistic health coach in 2019. After years of failed doctors visits, medications, and lifestyle habits that had her running in circles with her own health, she finally gathered the tools to not only help her turn her OWN life around, but also help other women do the same. 12 Oct 2023Chronic Hives to Certified FDN Health Coach - Erica’s Inspiring Story00:50:03

Did you know that hives, although fairly common, are NOT normal to deal with chronically?

Sure, rubbing up against the wrong type of plant while hiking could trigger an otherwise harmless reaction, but dealing with this particular symptom on a daily basis (especially if you're just working indoors) is a WARNING sign of something deeper. Our guest today on The Health Detective Podcast, Erica Duffy, knows this all too well.

Not only did Erica discover how to eliminate her hives for good, but she also discovered a VERY unexpected connection between her health challenges and a medical procedure that many women consider totally harmless! (You'll have to listen to find out what it is ;)

Now, as a fully certified Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner, Erica's business is centered on the belief that EVERYONE can achieve a state of vibrant health and comfort in their own skin. 08 May 2023HUNDREDS of Clients Within 2 Years of Biz w/ Dr. Kim Boehm, DNOM, FDN-P00:55:20

Back again on The Health Detective Podcast is none other than Dr. Kimberly Boehm!

Dr. Kim hit the ground running the second she graduated from FDN, and she has continued to have large amounts of success in her practice. The secret? We'll give you a hint...   It's NOT social media (although that's always good to have). It's NOT a huge email list (although, again, that's fine, too). And it's not that she was given a bunch of clients by some outside source.    It's something ANYONE can do regardless of age, and it's completely free. What is it exactly? Well, would we be good podcast hosts if we told you BEFORE you listened? Of course not!   We hope you find this episode both inspiring and insightful. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to us anytime via direct message on Instagram @fdntraining. Just say you heard us on the podcast :).   About Dr. Boehm:   Dr. Kimberly Boehm is an FDN that returned to college to earn a doctorate in naturopathic and original medicine.(DNOM). 14 Sep 2023BEST Functional Medicine Course For... Pets? w/ Dr. Ruth Roberts00:53:19

On today's episode of The Health Detective Podcast, we are talking once again with a woman on a mission to help pets around the world, Dr. Ruth Roberts!

Dr. Roberts was a huge hit the last time she recorded with us! She gave us all the latest insights into keeping our furry friends healthy (you can listen to that episode by clicking here), as well as how we can actually pursue a legitimate career working with people's pets through her Pet Wellness Program.

Now that we have had multiple FDNs successfully go through Dr. Roberts' program with nothing but amazing things to say, we felt it was only right to have her back on to talk about he program itself. (WARNING: You'll also get Detective Ev asking a bunch of random pet related questions!)

Would you like to see more of Dr. Roberts in the future? Let us know by shooting us a direct message on Instagram: @fdntraining.

About Dr. Roberts:

During her 30-year career as a DVM, Dr. Ruth Roberts has become one of the nation’s foremost experts in holistic and integrative veterinary medicine. After graduating from North Carolina State University in 1990, Dr. Roberts began her career practicing traditional, Western medicine. The onset of simultaneous health challenges for both her and her dog Arnold, however, prompted Dr. Roberts to seek solutions outside of the traditional realm of veterinary care she had learned in her textbooks.

Dr. Roberts furthered her education by absorbing the principles of Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine at the Chi Institute in Florida. Her studies there would eventually form the foundation for her philosophy that “good health begins in the bowl.” She is certified in Acupuncture, Chinese Herbology and Food Therapy.

In 2006, Dr. Roberts founded The Original Crockpot Diet and continues to see the dramatic results it makes in the health of her patients. She is a leading consultant in integrative veterinary medicine and advises clients in the United States and internationally through her website DrRuthRoberts.com.

Dr. Ruth is on a mission to empower pet parents and foster a vibrant community, to ignite a global movement for natural pet health, led by Dr. Ruth and Holistic Pet Health Coaches. Our aim is to equip you with the tools and knowledge to champion your pet's wellbeing, making every tail wag and content purr a testament to our commitment.

15 Jun 2023Build CONFIDENCE In Your Health Coach Sales Process w/ Hailey Rowe00:55:30

Today on The Health Detective Podcast, we have brought back an individual whose episode holds a place in our top 10 most downloaded episodes ever, Hailey Rowe!

Interestingly, despite us being a podcast primarily about health, Hailey's biz tips for health coaches and functional practitioners have completely won over our audience. Last time, we talked more about entrepreneurship in a general sense. This time, though, we are talking about what sales IS and ISN'T (hint: it should NEVER be lying or manipulating), as well as how you can instantly develop more confidence on your sales calls.

The reason Hailey is qualified to talk about these things is because of her extensive history in the marketing and sales space 🙂. You can read more about her impressive background below:

About Hailey:

Hailey is a Marketing & Sales Coach/Consultant & Linkedin Lead Generation Service Provider.

She helps health coaches and functional wellness professionals build their client attraction process, develop their no-brainer offers, & grow their impact locally and online. She’s also been named as one of the Top 25 Coaches in Chicago & one of the Top 6 business podcasts for health coaches. Since 2010, Hailey has worked in the coaching industry & in business development/marketing for startups. Hailey’s philosophy: You can have an amazing service and impact to make, but without a strong mindset, and sales and marketing plan, your business will remain a hobby.

09 Nov 2023Gut Check: The Real Impact of Alcohol w/ Samantha Lander, FDNP00:49:43
Our guest today on The Health Detective Podcast, Samantha Lander (Sam), was actually one of the first guests we ever had on the show! But, let's be honest... Who remembers all the way back to episode 19?   With that said, we felt it was only right to get her back in the spotlight. From addiction, to serving prison time, to completely transforming her life and dedicating it to serving others through functional medicine, Sam has one of the most powerful journeys we've ever shared on this show.   In the beginning part of the episode, we review Sam's story. About halfway through, Detective Ev and her touch on the impacts of alcohol on the body (kinda), but end up getting into a LOT more than that. So much so that Sam is already scheduled again for us to do a part 2 with!   We hope you enjoy this episode, and as always, if you have questions, please reach out to us @fdntraining.   About Sam:

Samantha Lander, or Sam for short. Has had quite the journey and continues to create more chapters in that journey. She Is a St. Louis, MO-based single mom, recovering addict, prison survivor, personal trainer, functional diagnostic nutritionist, DJs, and entrepreneur. She published “Dream Big, Do bigger” and is an international best selling author. I don’t know if she would say this, but I would definitely say she’s not your typical health practitioner. Her vulnerability and empathy towards her clients sets her apart from the rest.

Sam used Functional Diagnostic Nutrition to heal herself from allergies, food sensitivities, heavy metals, mold, hormonal imbalances (PCOS), mouth trauma and infections and several parasites. She got sick and tired of being sick and tired. All the doctors said she was fine but she followed her gut.

She does a wide variety of service work for people in recovery to help keep her recovery strong. She’s also founder of SeeFit Living where she coaches people back to optimal health when they just can’t quite put their finger on why they feel bad. She is sort of a bad ass in many ways and is so open about her journey.

She helps educate people about health, diet, stress reduction, rest, and proper supplementation to identify the root cause of why they can't perform at their A game. She has been on over 50 podcast educating people through her own personal journey and education. She is an influencer on social media using that platform to help people learn about health and top products to add into your daily life to optimize your health. She is one of the most authentic and REAL woman in the industry.

28 Jan 2022Root Canals, Oxalates, and Over-Exercise w/ Dustin McFarland, FDN-P, CNC00:51:27

In this episode, we have the privelege of not only talking to an FDN, but an FDN MENTOR! His name is Dustin McFarland, and he is a wealth of knowledge for all things healing.

Through his own health challenges and struggles, Dustin decided at an early age that the only way he was going to heal himself was to learn as much as possible about being healthy. While being a personal trainer and later a nutritional health coach, Dustin found his passion for helping others with their health. With his constant need for learning more and still knowing something was missing, Dustin found FDN which put all the final pieces together for himself and his clients. Dustin has always tried to lead by example with his healthy lifestyle and diet since his early childhood. His desire to be active outdoors drives him to live an incredibly healthy lifestyle every day.

During this interview, Detective Ev and Dustin covered some topics never before covered on the show. From the dangers of over-exercising, to the hidden health complications caused by root canals, to introducing the listerns to oxalates and what foods they're found in, this episode covers a LOT!

30 Oct 2023Should Your Client See A Chiropractor? w/ Dr. Anthony Ratkovic00:55:25

Fun fact about Functional Diagnostic Nutrition (depending on how you define "fun"):

The FDN methodology was actually created while Reed was working IN a chiropractor's office! In many ways, these different modalities actually share the same core principle: Remove or relieve STRESS from the body to allow it to benefit from it's innate healing ability.

So, on today's episode of The Health Detective Podcast, we thought we'd bring on a fantastic chiropractor who loves his work, Dr. Anthony Ratkovic!

Dr. Ratkovic has been practicing for over 20 years, and the passion he still holds for the work is obvious just by listening to his voice. In this interview, we'll cover things like:

→ The AMAZING way chiropractic medicine gained popularity in the west

→ How almost any client you have could benefit from chiropractic care

→ Why chiropractic medicine and FDN are, philosophically speaking, one in the same

We hope you enjoy this episode! And since Dr. Ratkovic was nice enough to come on with absolutely nothing to sell or offer, we'd appreciate it you could at least send him a kind message or give him a follow @drtonychiro to show your appreciation 🙂.

08 Feb 2022Sleep is a Skill, and Here’s How To Master It w/ Mollie McGlocklin01:00:29

In this interview, Detective Ev had a blast talking with fellow biohacking enthusiast, Mollie McGlocklin!

We all know sleep is important, but very few people want to get down and dirty when it comes to the science of truly optimizing this. If you're looking to get a level of sleep you didn't know was possible, then you've come to the right podcast!

Mollie is the creator of Sleep Is A Skill and the host of The Sleep Is A Skill Podcast. Sleep Is A Skill is a company that optimizes people’s sleep through a unique blend of technology, accountability, and behavioral change. After navigating insomnia while traveling internationally, she created what she couldn’t find - a place to go to learn the skill set of sleep. With a background in behavioral change from The Nonverbal Group, she became fascinated with chronobiology and its practical application to sleep and our overall experience of life. Knowing the difference between a life with sleep and without, she’s now dedicated her life to sharing the forgotten skill set of sleep.

11 Dec 2023When Genes Really ARE The Problem (FAP) w/ Michael Caprio00:55:17

One of our favorite parts of bringing The Health Detective Podcast to our listeners and viewers is that we get to highlight guests who deal with conditions that many of us would otherwise never hear about. Today's guest on the show, Michael Caprio, deals with a genetic condition that you very likely haven't heard of.

At just eighteen years old, author Michael Caprio was diagnosed with Familial Adenomatous Polyposis, a rare genetic form of colorectal cancer that accounts for only 0.5 percent of all colorectal cancer cases in the United States. After enduring two life-saving operations, Michael has since made a full recovery and has become an author, advocate, leader, change-maker, and podcast guest in the spaces of mental health and colorectal cancer.

Although this story is bit different than the ones we would typically bring on the show, we think it is important to not only give a spotlight for those dealing with conditions such as FAP in silence, but for the listeners and viewers to find inspiration in the incredible resiliency and determination that people like Michael display.

We hope you enjoy this episode, and if you have an questions, you can always reach out to us directly @fdntraining on Instagram.

11 Jan 2024Gut Check: The Real Impact of Alcohol (Pt 2) w/ Samantha Lander00:49:40

If you caught the most recent version of Sam and Detective Ev talking, you'd know that they are prone to getting ever so slightly off-track. Because of this, we felt it was only right to bring Sam back so that they could discuss what was supposed to be the main topic last time: Gut health and alcohol's effect on it.

In addition, Sam and Ev also get REAL with the audience about their own challenges with substance abuse and how they've learned to live fulfilling, "normal" lives where they still have tons of fun without the need for intoxicants. When we did this episode live, we had a LOT of audience engagement due to the rawness of the conversation, so if you feel you'd like to share something with us, please feel free to message on us on Instagram @fdntraining.

15 Dec 20225 Ways FDN Is Different From Other Programs w/ Detective Ev00:00:35

In this episode we are answering one of the most commonly asked questions, "What makes FDN different from other programs out there?"

We do NOT believe in bashing other programs, as there are plenty of great ones out there. Instead, what we will do is highlight the real differences that truly separate FDN from all other programs on the market. These differences may or may not be what you are personally looking for, but at least you'll be informed one way or the other :).

20 Mar 2023The Leaky Gut and Mental Health Connection w/ Detective Ev00:37:32

Sometimes, mental health issues can be very complex to get under control. However, there are other times where one's mental health issues might be things that an invidiual could EASILY resolve if they just knew what steps to take and what things to look for. After hearing a recent FDN client testimonial, Detective Ev was remind of just how true the latter statement is.

An individual who had been suffering for over 8 years with mental health challenges finally decided to give Functional Diagnostic Nutrition a try. Within just two weeks of his protocol, he was saying that he felt the "best I have felt in 15 years." (Mind you, that's a good chunk of time before his mental health issues even manifested!)

While this is an overall amazing testimonial and happy story, there is one part that can't be ignored- the fact that this client used to struggle with suicidal ideation. When you realize this, you can't help but wonder how many people will struggle with those same types of thoughts and NOT get so lucky as to find help that works for them.

Because of this, our podcast episode today is centered all around leaky gut and mental health. This isn't because leaky gut is the be-all end-all when it comes to our mental health, but rather because it is one of many examples that COULD be a major factor in how one feel's, and yet mainstream medicine has not fully caught up to it yet.

This episode is both educational and inspirational, and practitioner or client alike can get a benefit from it!

About Detective Ev:

Evan Transue, AKA Detective Ev, graduated from FDN in 2017. Prior to finding FDN, him and his mom had suffered with a variety of health challenges for over a decade, including but not limited to severe cystic acne, major depressive disorder, panic disorder, GERD, and Grave's Disease. The FDN system transformed him and his mom's lives so profoundly that all of his work is now centered around spreading it's teachings.

Evan is now the host of The Health Detective Podcast, owner of Bucks County Light Therapy and Functional Medicine Center, and speaks professionally to middle and high school students about mental health challenges. He has been blessed to speak to over 50,000 students around the country and deliver over 500 professional presentations.

25 Aug 2022Shining Light On Mast Cell Activation Syndrome w/ Nicole Dube, FDN-P00:56:47

On today's episode, we're touching on a condition that hasn't been brought up on this show before: Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS).

MCAS is a diagnosable condition, but it is something that often goes undetected by western medicine's radars. Doctors and patients are usually quite confused about what is happening, and the best they can offer the patient is to treat it. The patient will end up taking high dosages of anti-histamines amongst other medications, and may even be told to seek disability (as was the case for our guest, Nicole Dube).

But Nicole is a different type of person. She was not ready to accept this recommendation of disability at such a young age. In her eyes, her life was not over yet.

Due to Nicole's trust in her intuition and amazing discipline, she eventually got her health 90% of the way back (and counting). She is NOT on disability, and instead has a list of impressive achievements which you can read below. We hope you enjoy this episode!

About Nicole: Nicole Dube is a state-certified, double board-certified clinical and holistic nutritionist and Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner. She has been in private practice for over nine years and uses her personal experience with Mast Cell Activation Syndrome and POTS to help her clients go beyond managing symptoms and look for the underlying pieces to their healing puzzle. Her mission is to teach people to approach healing holistically - addressing body, mind, and spirit in order to give the body the tools it needs to begin healing.

04 Jan 2024How to Get Clients to Say Yes w/ Dr. Alan Weinstein01:07:08

Want to follow along with us on video? Click here to go to the Youtube version and see the slides!

Dr. Alan Weinstein, AKA, "Dr. Al", is one of Reed's mentors and best friends. In addition to that, he has an extensive background in healthcare as well as marketing. Interestingly, it's the marketing side of his background which is why we invited him on the show today!

Of the many things that go into health coaching businesses, it's often the business stuff that many coaches are least looking forward to. That is, the average health coach LOVES talking about various dietary approaches, looking at and analyzing labs, as well as guiding people along their journey to new and improved health! However, when it comes to actually attracting those clients they otherwise love to work with, that part can get a bit messy.

In comes Dr. Al!

During this episode of The Health Detective Podcast, Dr. Al helps us understand the psychology behind why some clients say "Yes", and why others say "No". And, just to be clear, this does NOT MEAN this is an episode on how to sell people expensive health coaching packages that they DIDN'T NEED OR WEREN'T READY FOR. What we are referring to specifically in this episode is how to get people who you KNOW you can help and who you realize would be EXCELLENT for your program to say YES so that both you and the client can win.

Does all this sound good? Then the episode itself will sound even better! Listen now and let us know what you think or ask us questions by reaching out on Instagram @fdntraining.

About Dr. Al:

Alan S. Weinstein, D.C. ran a state of the art, waiting list multidisciplinary, multi-physician practice for over twenty five years, combining neurology, radiology, exercise rehabilitation, biochemistry, Chinese medicine, acupuncture and chiropractic. He had so many referrals that he had to refer them to other physicians in his area as he was unable to keep up with the demand for the Wellness care he created.

He was one of the first physicians to achieve three separate certifications in exercise rehabilitation in the United States.  He served on the Quality Assurance Committee of the American Chiropractic Association, where he formulated the Rehabilitation Guidelines from which all other chiropractic physicians had to adhere. He completed the ACA Neurology Diplomat program and was honored as valedictorian of his class.  He has achieved certifications in ADHD and Learning Disabilities, Vertigo, Applied Kinesiology, Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis, Detoxification, Metabolic Typing and Functional Diagnostic Nutrition.

His leadership and entrepreneurial spirit paved the way in the managed care arena, where he was a founder and board member of the Managed Care Network.  He was the first chiropractor ever selected to serve as a panel physician for Blue Cross/ Blue Shield Capitol Care.  He was also chosen as a panel physician for Prudential (Prucare) Insurance, Giant Food Stores, Travelers Insurance, A.I.I.A. / P.P.O., Health Care, Focus, and CorVel.   He served as an Independent Medical Examiner for Hartford Insurance, Kemper Insurance, and Mediq Claims Review.  He was accepted as a Life Member in the National Registry of Who’s Who in recognition of exemplary service, both to the community and to the profession.  He served on the board of the International College of Applied Kinesiology.

He then decided to give up practicing and devote his time to marketing.  He soon wrote, directed, and stared in his own television long form infomercial featuring an exercise device of his own invention.  During this time he worked with Eric Stilson who many of you know for his hugely successful marketing campaigns for HealthRider, Bowflex and the AbDoer.

He honed his media skills with Mercury Media and Euro RSG the largest media buyers in the world.  He then went on to work with some of the top innovators in internet marketing today.

He began to work with Alex Mandossian one of the most if not the most successful marketer in the world who has generated over $473 million dollars online for himself and his affiliates.  As a result Dr. Weinstein created a 7 figure business helping health-care professionals use podcasts to build their practice.  He then created the first lead generation/ follow-up marketing SYSTEMS for healthcare professionals which he still runs actively today.

Currently, Dr. Weinstein specializes in helping his clients understand Brain Based Marketing a neurological approach to building your brand.  Brain based Marketing is well researched and is some of the most successful marketing done today.  His vast marketing experience combined with his knowledge of Brain Based Marketing allows his clients to "Get Above the Noise" of email and Social Media and be guaranteed to reach their audience.

Dr. Weinstein's consistently helps his clients develop the most cost-effective, proven strategies to acquire new customers, expand online search marketing reach, and develop a positive ROI.
