09 Dec 2021 | 382. What to Know About Supplements! | 00:16:09
I am dedicating today's episode to discussing supplements. It can be tempting to throw supplements at a health issue because we heard that it worked for Aunt Pam, or to take anything that Dr. Google tells us. Supplements are much more individual, and although many won't hurt you, it's so important to understand what your specific body needs, how the supplements interact with each other and how to maximize the benefits. I am a huge fan of supplementation in general, because our nutrition as a nation is severely lacking. As long as we are taking into consideration the right factors and individuality of health, supplements can go a long way! 02 Apr 2025 | 716. The Postpartum Lies We’ve Been Told—And What to Do Instead with Maranda Bower | 00:52:23
I need to tell you something you might not hear enough: Postpartum is about YOU just as much as it’s about your baby. And yet, we live in a culture that’s more focused on swaddles and sleep schedules than the well-being of the person who just created a whole human. I recently sat down with Maranda Bower from Postpartum University, and let me tell you—she dropped some serious truth bombs about what’s missing in postpartum care and how we can change the game. Maranda’s journey started when she had her first baby and realized she was completely unprepared for what came next. She is an expert in child development, a science-loving go-getter who thought she had everything figured out… until postpartum knocked her flat. Sound familiar? Maybe you felt that overwhelming exhaustion, the anxiety, the body that didn’t quite feel like your own anymore. Maybe you were told, “Oh, that’s just mom life. Welcome to the club.” But Maranda’s work proves something powerful: Postpartum struggles aren’t just something to tough out—they’re signs that your body needs nourishment, care, and support. The Truth About Postpartum That No One Talks About 👉 Science is just catching up to what women have always known: postpartum recovery takes longer than six weeks, and it affects everything from your hormones to your nervous system to your gut health. 👉 There are more studies on postpartum cows than postpartum women (yep, you read that right). Why? Because dairy sales matter more than maternal health. Let’s change that. 👉 Your postpartum experience literally shapes your baby’s brain. Research shows that a mother’s health has a profound impact on childhood development, yet the support for moms? Almost nonexistent. And don’t even get me started on the whole “bounce back” culture. If you’ve been complimented on your weight loss while secretly feeling like a hollowed-out shell of yourself, you’re not alone. Maranda and I talked about how real postpartum recovery is about nourishment, rest, and support—not about how fast you can fit into your pre-baby jeans. So What Can We Do? ✨ Shift the focus: Prioritize your recovery just as much as your baby’s needs. You both deserve it. ✨ Seek real postpartum support: Functional nutrition, hormone balancing, nervous system care—these aren’t luxuries; they’re necessities. ✨ Ditch the shame: You’re not “just tired” or “being dramatic.” If something feels off, trust yourself. Your body is speaking to you. Maranda’s work at Postpartum University is all about giving moms and professionals the tools to make postpartum a time of healing, not just survival. If you’re in the thick of it (or know someone who is), consider this your permission slip to take your postpartum care seriously. You are not alone, and you deserve to feel whole again. 27 Sep 2018 | 60. When do you need a coach? | 00:22:49
Someone recently said to me "I think everyone needs a coach." And I so agree with this statement for the most part. We can't all be experts in everything, so if there is an area you're focusing in on, why not get someone to help you who knows what they're doing? In the end that costs you less time, less frustration, faster results, etc. etc. But when is the best time to hire a coach? When is the best time to invest your money into someone to help you achieve the result you're looking for? In this episode I dive into this a bit more, and give you some scenarios of when it might be time to hire a coach!
22 Jan 2025 | 696. Why You Have Mood Swings & How To Deal With Them | 00:14:31
Do you ever feel like you’re trapped in a body that’s having wild emotional responses for no reason? Like one moment you’re calm, and the next, you’re completely overwhelmed? You’re not alone. Mood swings can feel like a rollercoaster—sudden anger, tears, or irritability that seem to come out of nowhere. But here’s the thing: it’s not “all in your head,” and you’re not overreacting. Your body may be signaling deeper imbalances. Mood swings aren’t just a simple A + B = C equation. 19 Dec 2022 | 479. Why Am I So Tired? | 00:11:36
I get asked ALL the time, "Why am I so tired?" Many doctors will just look at someone and tell them to "just lose 20 lb and you won't be so tired" when really there is much more to the picture. Something to consider with fatigue - are you able to feel better after more sleep? If not, there is definitely a deeper issue and it has NOTHING to do with laziness. Many times it's an adrenal/cortisol issue, so I wanted to spend some time on what this looks like. The goal of this episode is to open the conversation around fatigue, exhaustion and adrenal issues that so many of us face. In this episode, I had a chat with Erika who shared her struggles dealing with postpartum health issues, like a painful fibroid and PMS. Erica has been frustrated because her doctors weren't really listening to her concerns. They kept pushing birth control and ibuprofen as a quick fix, ignoring her struggles. I kept thinking to myself, I've been there too. Advocating for yourself and finding a healthcare provider who really listens to you is ESSENTIAL. I talked through some practical tools like seed cycling and tinctures to help balance her hormones and reduce inflammation. We also talked about how to approach doctors who aren't being helpful. 31 Jul 2024 | 647. How To Balance A Long Follicular Phase and Delayed Ovulation | 00:18:05
In this episode of my live coaching series, I talk with Jessica who deals with a long follicular phase and delayed ovulation. Delayed ovulation and irregular cycles can throw off a number of things in the female body, including fertility. Jessica's main goal is to achieve a more balanced cycle - both for her overall health and her fertility journey as she and her husband try for their second child. A former primary school teacher, Jessica found her stress levels were high due to the demands of her job. She transitioned to a high school teaching role which reduced her stress significantly, the first big step in regulating hormones. The follicular phase is the first half of your menstrual cycle, starting on the first day of menstruation and lasting until ovulation. This phase involves the maturation of follicles in the ovaries, leading to the release of an egg during ovulation. A typical follicular phase lasts around 14 days. Here are some tools for regulating the hormone cycle: 1. Manage stress 2. Nutrition support: Eat for your cycle. This includes warming and cooling foods with your follicular and luteal phase. 3. Seed Cycling: Eat 1 Tbsp of flax and pumpkin seeds in your follicular phase and 1 Tbsp of sesame and sunflower in the luteal phase. 4. Hormone testing: Jessica went with the DUTCH test - this test can pinpoint specific imbalances in the hormone cycle. 5. Gut health: A healthy gut microbiome is essential for hormone metabolism. Start with a diet rich in fiber and live cultures from foods like kefir, kombucha, and fresh vegetables. Probiotics and enzymes are a great option for additional support! 6. Movement: Regular, moderate exercise can help regulate hormones and reduce stress. Start with a short walk after meals! Tallene is a PCOS Weight Loss registered dietitian and a strong believer that you don’t just have to live with PCOS, you can thrive with PCOS. She was diagnosed at age 18, and left scared and confused without much information or guidance from her practitioner. Unsatisfied with the generally accepted belief that birth control is the only way to manage a PCOS diagnosis (and disheartened after failed attempts at weight loss through excessive exercise and dieting), Tallene decided to look for alternative options. She studied nutritional science and became a dietitian, gathering information from her studies, speaking extensively with various health experts who are now guests on her and her husband’s podcast, and working with clients one-on-one. She discovered that eliminating gluten and dairy as a huge key to living healthier with PCOS, and together with her husband Sirak (a PCOS-focused personal trainer), developed a program meant to make living with the diagnosis easier to both understand and embrace. Tallene has helped thousands of women manage their PCOS symptoms and is living proof that anyone can overcome PCOS and lose weight naturally by going gluten and dairy free! Have you ever found yourself reaching for a new supplement because it should help your estrogen, your sleep, or your energy—only to feel exactly the same… or worse? I get it. The wellness world is overwhelming. You want to feel better, but where do you even start? Here’s the thing: Your body is not a one-size-fits-all equation. That’s why testing—not guessing—is the key to finally understanding what’s actually going on beneath the surface. Enter: The DUTCH Test. This at-home urine test is like getting a personal roadmap to your hormones. Instead of throwing spaghetti at the wall with supplements and hoping for the best, the DUTCH test shows you exactly where your imbalances are, what’s driving your symptoms, and how to fix them with a targeted approach. Let me share a quick story. A client of mine—a total rockstar athlete—came to me exhausted. She’d tried everything: cleaner eating, more sleep, different workouts. Nothing worked. She thought her stress was too high. But when we ran a DUTCH test? Her stress hormones were actually too low. She wasn’t just stressed—she was burnt out. And all the stress-reducing techniques she was using? They were actually making things worse. Moral of the story? Without testing, it’s easy to go in the completely wrong direction. Hormones control everything—your energy, mood, metabolism, sleep, skin, digestion… So why are we still throwing darts in the dark when we could be using science-backed, personalized data to get real answers? If you’ve been struggling and feeling stuck, here’s your sign: It’s time to stop guessing and start testing. DUTCH Test: https://drbethwestie.com/dutch-hormone-testing/

16 Sep 2024 | 660. How To Track Your Cycle With The Mira Fertility Tracker | 00:57:35
So, you’re trying to conceive. Or maybe you just really want to know what’s going on with your cycle. Either way, tracking your hormones throughout the month will give you so MUCH INFORMATION about your health, fertility and symptoms. I had an amazing conversation with Rose MacKenzie, Medical Affairs Specialist at Mira, to discuss the best way to track your cycle and fertility. We often hear about the infamous 28-day cycle, but the reality is, our cycles are unique, and ovulation isn’t as predictable as we may think. You are not fertile every day of the month. Pinpointing ovulation can be challenging without an accurate tracking system. Mira is a modern fertility tracker that uses hormone testing to give you real-time insights into your cycle. Unlike traditional methods that might rely solely on temperature or symptoms, Mira tracks luteinizing hormone (LH) levels in your urine, giving you precise data about your ovulation. LH spikes right before ovulation, making it one of the most reliable markers for fertility. The tracker syncs with an app, allowing you to monitor your results over time. This can be especially helpful if you have irregular cycles or conditions like PCOS, as Mira will track your unique hormone fluctuations instead of relying on the average 28-day cycle. With this data, you'll be able to track your hormone levels throughout your cycle and identify trends. This is especially helpful for women who experience irregular cycles or have conditions like PCOS or endometriosis. If you’ve been struggling with irregular cycles, unexplained symptoms, or just want to optimize your health, Mira is a powerful tool to have in your corner. It's time to take control of your fertility journey—get started today! Get 15% OFF Mira products with code: DRBETH15 Let's connect! 03 Jun 2019 | 117. Fan Girl with Jayme Buck and Callie Inman | 00:20:38
We are the founders and daily hustling duo of Fan Girl. We are two local Minnesota girls who have been growing our friendship since the second grade. As best friends, we have always been super supportive of one another's goals and dreams. Over the years, we have both followed an endless number of educational and job opportunities. While some were just ok and some were great, we always knew we wanted to create something of our own. Early last year, we started meeting weekly for coffee to brainstorm and bounce ideas off each other. After many weeks and many cups of light roast... we sparked a thought. Why don't women have any trendy options for sports apparel? We realized there is no sports gear that is current, understated, and versatile enough to wear to a football game, the gym, or even brunch with friends! From these realizations, Fan Girl was born! Fan Girls are hardworking, authentic, and genuine women. They grind on the daily at their jobs or in school and are always working to achieve greater success. Fan Girls work hard so they can play, laugh, and enjoy life harder! We are just here to make sure they look good while doing it! We are here to bring you trendy, affordable, handmade styles to amp up your wardrobe. Fan Girl isn't just a brand, it's a lifestyle and we can't wait to watch you live it!

08 Apr 2024 | 614. How Your Hormones Impact Fat Burning | 00:10:11
Hormone levels play a direct and indirect role in how the body utilizes and stores fat. Estrogen, dominant in the first half of your cycle, plays a crucial role in regulating metabolism. Higher levels of estrogen are associated with increased carb burning, which is why I often incorporate carb cycling in this phase of my cycle Progesterone, on the other hand, exhibits distinct fat burning qualities. Research indicates that progesterone may enhance lipid metabolism, promoting the breakdown of fat for energy. Listen along as we break down other hormones including testosterone and cortisol and how to manage expectations for your body. 06 Nov 2024 | 674. My Worst PCOS Episode (And How I Got Rid Of It) | 00:15:34
PCOS almost ruined my life. My journey with PCOS began under intense stress and years of hormonal birth control use. I used the pill for almost a decade, thinking it was harmless—like many of us do. After a while, my body started to react. I was having irregular bleeding (three times a month!) and didn't know if I was even ovulating. I decided to make some big shifts in my diet and lifestyle, starting grad school, going gluten-free, and learning about nutrition for the female body. I also had three children in rapid succession, which further taxed my body. My youngest was born premature, and stress skyrocketed as I juggled being a new mom, running a business, and healing from postpartum complications. Before I knew it, I was in constant pain, plagued by ovarian cysts that would burst, leaving me debilitated. PCOS pain was like nothing else. I’d broken bones, had surgeries, and given birth three times, but nothing compared to the agony of a cyst rupturing. Even though I went to doctors, all I heard was, "It’s just a cyst; your body will handle it." The advice was limited to pain management or getting back on birth control, but I knew I needed more than that—I needed answers. Through my research and education, I learned about eating in sync with my hormones and my cycle, and this was the key that changed everything. By supporting each phase of my menstrual cycle with warming and cooling foods, I was able to reduce inflammation, balance my hormones, and regulate my cycle. For example:
I began to see results, not overnight, but steadily. The intense cyst pain started to fade, and eventually, the cysts stopped forming altogether. I WAS SO RELIEVED—finally, a natural solution that worked with my body, not against it. The real breakthroughs came when I tailored my approach even further with personalized hormone testing. I took a DUTCH test to get a complete view of my hormone health, helping me understand which nutrients and lifestyle adjustments were best suited to my body. Instead of guessing and wasting time (and money!) on the wrong supplements, I got clarity and real results. If you’re struggling with PCOS or any other hormone-related issue, I know it can feel isolating and frustrating. You don’t have to go through this alone. In my program, I guide women through these same steps I used— aligning diet with your cycle, using targeted supplements, and understanding the power of personalized hormone testing. You’ll not only get one-on-one support, but you’ll also join a group of women who understand exactly what you’re going through. Together, we’ll work toward the same goal: eliminating symptoms from the root cause and taking control of your body and your health. Ready to start your journey? 04 Nov 2024 | 673. How To Hydrate Through Food (and Why You Should!) | 00:11:26
Did you know that you can hydrate through your food? We often think of hydration as guzzling bottles of water. But it’s not the only way! In fact, relying solely on water can sometimes create issues if it dilutes your stomach acids, which are necessary for proper digestion. Instead, consider how foods can offer hydration while providing vitamins and minerals. Here’s a breakdown of how to add these hydrating foods throughout your cycle: Follicular Phase (Days 1-14)During the follicular phase, your energy naturally rises, and you might find yourself drawn to fresh, light foods. Hydrating foods like cucumbers, celery, and strawberries provide that boost, helping keep you hydrated without feeling bloated or waterlogged. Ovulatory Phase (Days 14-16)In the ovulatory phase, your body temperature slightly increases. This is a great time to bring in foods with high water content, like watermelon and peaches, to cool down while staying hydrated. These fruits are also a fantastic way to satisfy your sweet cravings without added sugar. Luteal Phase (Days 16-28)As your body prepares for menstruation, you may crave something more substantial. Tomatoes, bell peppers, and berries are fantastic additions to meals or snacks. They offer hydration along with antioxidants, helping ease any premenstrual symptoms and reducing bloating. Menstrual PhaseDuring menstruation, focus on gentle hydration to support your system as it loses fluids. Foods like soups, bone broths, and herbal teas are soothing and hydrating, helping your body stay balanced without overwhelming it. Bone broth, for instance, adds minerals to your system, which can support your hydration levels and energy. Here are some top hydrating foods to enjoy throughout your cycle:
Hydration isn’t a “one-size-fits-all,” especially for women. By understanding how food can help hydrate, you support your body’s natural rhythms and provide hydration that lasts. If you’ve been feeling sluggish, try adding more hydrating foods and watch how it can make a difference! Registration for my upcoming 12 Week Female Hormone Solution is OPEN but only to the waitlist! 12 Mar 2025 | 710. The Top 3 Imbalances I See On Hormone Tests | 00:21:54
If there’s one thing you need to know about me, it’s that I love hormone testing. I’m talking about the DUTCH test - dried urine test that gives us a deep, behind-the-scenes look at what’s really going on with your hormones. And let me tell you, after looking at hundreds of DUTCH test results, there are three big things I see again and again—things that could be the missing puzzle piece to why you’re feeling off. So let’s get into it! 1. 🚨 Stress is Running the Show (a.k.a. Cortisol Chaos)Let’s get real: when was the last time you weren’t stressed? If you’re anything like the women I work with, your stress levels have been through the roof for years. Maybe you went through a tough divorce, had a high-pressure job, or just navigated the circus act of balancing work, family, and life (hello, cortisol rollercoaster!). Your body doesn’t just forget stress. Even if life is good now, your nervous system might still be stuck in “fight or flight” mode. And when your cortisol is constantly high (or completely tanked from years of overdrive), you’ll feel it—fatigue, anxiety, gut issues, stubborn weight gain, the whole shebang. 💡 The fix? We can’t guess where your cortisol is—we have to test it. Then, we tailor the right strategy (because high cortisol and low cortisol need completely different approaches!). 2. 🚨 Estrogen is Stuck in a Traffic JamMaybe you’ve been told your estrogen levels are “normal,” but your periods say otherwise. Heavy bleeding, clots, painful ovulation, mood swings? Yeah, that’s not fine. Here’s the deal: estrogen isn’t just about how much you have—it’s about how your body is processing it. DUTCH testing shows us whether estrogen is getting stuck in phase one, struggling in phase two, or just plain refusing to leave your system. And the crazy part? You won’t see these imbalances on a standard blood test. That’s why so many women get dismissed when they know something’s off. 💡 The fix? Supporting your body’s natural detox pathways (like your liver and gut) and, if needed, using targeted herbs or nutrients to get estrogen moving the right way. 3. 🚨 Low Dopamine = No Motivation (and Zero Joy)I have to admit something: when I saw my own DUTCH test results, my dopamine levels were in the toilet. And I didn’t even realize it—until I started fixing it. Low dopamine doesn’t just mean feeling “a little off.” It’s waking up and dreading the day, losing interest in things you used to love, and craving constant stimulation (hello, endless Instagram scrolling). It’s looking at a Halloween store vampire coffin and thinking, Wow, that looks cozy (true story—red flag, right?). 💡 The fix? Dopamine isn’t just about supplements—it’s about lifestyle. More movement, more joy, more creativity, more connection. And sometimes, targeted nutrients to give your brain the extra push it needs. If you’re struggling with fatigue, weight changes, mood swings, or just feeling off, it’s time to stop guessing. A DUTCH test gives you real answers, so you can take real action. So tell me—do any of these red flags sound familiar? And if you’re ready to finally get to the root of your hormone struggles, let’s test your hormones: https://drbethwestie.com/dutch-hormone-testing/
