  4. Delegating tasks without there being proper systems or processes in place.
  5. Hiring for talent instead of "family fit" - you can have the best performer but they might alienate themselves from the team and disrupt things too much.

Lena Robinson’s a straight-talking Kiwi that has built a powerful reputation for herself as savvy business person in London over the last 17 years.   2. What is Cognitive Dissonance? This produces a feeling of mental discomfort leading to an alteration in one of the attitudes, beliefs or behaviours to reduce the discomfort and restore balance. For example, when people smoke (behaviour) and they know that smoking causes cancer (cognition), they are in a state of cognitive dissonance.
  3. What is unconscious bias? - use the example of the person just hearing “Insurance” just because they are in insurance and missing the point of a video. https://www.eliinc.com/five-real-world-examples-of… Standing up and speaking whilst assuming everyone knows what you’re talking about.
  4. Not putting prices up because no-one will buy. You know that putting your prices up will make your life better/easier but you don’t do it because of what “might” happen.
  5. Selling the wrong product (i.e. giving books away rather than selling them for £5 each)
  6. When someone doesn’t pay you, you know you’ll be better of moving on and finding a better client yet you still let the negative experience bother you.
  7. In a way comparing ourselves to others creates cognitive dissonance because what the other person is doing goes against our own core beliefs and makes us feel uncomfortable (imposter syndrome?)
  8. As a business grows the market shifts and the business needs to change in order to adapt to the new market which create CD.
  9. Now think about the client/customer relationship.

Quite often...all the time in fact, clients experience CD when they are looking at buying your product or service. They have a certain belief of how you work, the results you deliver, how much it costs, how long it takes etc however by the end of your consultation their core belief needs to change in order to sell the product.

Your New Years Resolutions WILL FAIL

Why?

Well, there are three main reasons:

REASON #1

Your New Year Resolution is simply TOO BIG.

If you want to succeed at your New Years Resolution then START NOW.

You need to start planning your resolution now, breaking your big goal down into smaller achievable milestones. Otherwise, you'll start on Jan 1st and the goal you've set for yourself will simply be too big.

A resolution is for life NOT JUST for New Year.

Better to CHOOSE TO START YOUR RESOLUTION NOW...

...Than to put it off for another Month until you are "forced" into taking action.

REASON #2

You are fighting the Reptile part of your brain.

When you start in the New Year, you will immediately be triggering Fight, Flight or Freeze because you are trying to do something that you've been putting off until now.

You haven't got your brain comfortable and desensitised to the new behaviour patterns.

This is the most likely reason you will fail because those first 30 days will feel really bloody uncomfortable.

So, start training your reptile NOW.

REASON #3

You did it just because it's a New Year Resolution.

Basically your "WHY" needs to be much stronger than it's a New Year Resolution.

You must have a specific goal in mind to achieve with your new lifestyle change, as well as determined the activities you'll be doing to achieve that goal and FINALLY have a MASSIVE DESIRE to achieve the goal.

Otherwise, you'll be apathetic towards your resolution and not complete it.

On today's episode of the podcast, I'm going to be talking about one of the easiest ways to figure out how much to charge for your products or services.

Welcome back, everybody. It's your host here, Robin Waite, founder of Fearless Business, author of Take Your Shot. It's been a little while since I did a podcast. You're probably wondering why there's been several months of a hiatus. So before I dig into my simple formula for working out your products or services, I thought I would just update you as to why I've been away for a little while. Yeah, quite simply, I just found that I fell out of love with doing podcast episodes. I don't know why, and I know that it's very selfish of me, but sometimes I find when you're doing building marketing assets, you do have to find things which you are, where your energy is kind of like, without getting too woo, in the right sort of place.

So going for that, answering that question around how do you set your coaching prices when you're starting out? Well, there are a number of different ways, but I'm going to share one specifically with you, which is, I call it goal focused pricing. And it is possibly the simplest way to set your prices for your services. It does involve a bit of math. So you probably didn't wake up this morning thinking you were going to get some kind of a math test, but it's simple math, folks. Just get out a sheet of paper and just do some basic calculations or use a spreadsheet.

In August '23 I was particularly fortunate to be a guest on the Deep Dive Podcast with Ali Abdaal. For those who don't know Ali has 6 million subscribers to his main YouTube channel.

That one single podcast interview generated 1,500 leads for my business in the subsequent 90 days, which led to 80+ sales calls and over £150,000 in booked revenue.

It blew my mind how one podcast interview could make or break the fortunes of a business owner, and so in this episode I disect what steps I went through in order to get this podcast booked.

My blinding flash of the obvious was that it was all down to the Partnerships that I built that this podcast even came about. From doing the Key Person of Influence course ten years ago with Daniel Priestley, to my friendship with author Simon Alexanger-Ong they all played a part.

The 5 Steps for Partnership are:
  1. Be intentional about the 10-20 people you would like to partner up with and how the partnership will benefit both you and them.

Essentially buying expensive things gives you pleasure, so we can apply some basic principles to our products in business as well. In short there are surprising benefits to having an expensive product in your suite of core products.

In this episode I talk about:
  • The blind taste test of two bottles of wine - essentially scientists switched the labels on two similar bottles of wine and the most expensive still came out on top both times
  • Apply Pareto's 80/20 principle to your suite of core products - focuses on increasing profits by removing the 20% of products producing the lowest profit
  • Also 80/20 your clientbase by removing the 20% of clients who contribute the least profit to your business to increase profits and create more time for yourself
  • Sometimes you can leverage high-priced products that don’t sell very often:
    • Mobile phones (iPhone, 128gb @£949, 512gb @£1249, 1tb @£1449)
    • Cars
    • Coffee
  • Communicate expertise, Costco sells a $600,000 diamond
  • Prestige - Think Jack Daniels Black Label versus Single Barrel ($50 a bottle), Silver Select ($120 a bottle) or even Sinatra Century ($600 a bottle)
  • Use Expensive Products as a Gimmick to Create Free Publicity - the £8,000 haircut in the Guiness Book of Records
Why most business don’t have a super expensive offer:
  • Because they don’t think anyone will buy it

15 Apr 2024How I Get More Downloads on my Podcast Episodes00:07:12

I get asked very frequently what my process is for producing a podcast episode, and in this episode of the podcast (a bit meta!!) I break it down for you.

My Podcast process is quite simple:

  1. Come up with an overall topic for the episode. Generally this is either from questions I get asked throughout the week from clients and prospects or I might look for a topic on Google which is highly searched for. These are topics which I know will get traction because people are talking about the topic already.
  2. Once I've chosen my topic for the podcast, I'll do a quick bit of research and write down a bullet point list of what I want to speak about. This is where frameworks are quite helpful, so something like my "Silver Platter Patnership" Framework might be made up of 5 steps. So if I do a 2 minutes introduction and backstory, along with 2 minutes for each step (or bullet point) and then 2 minutes for an outro, that equates to a nice succint 14 minute long episode.
  3. I try and record monologues in one-take because I get into flow, and I'll only go back and re-record that short segment.
  4. Without thinking about it I send it to my awesome Podcast Editor, James Ede, and he normally has it back to me within 48 hours.

This means I can get a very simple podcast episode up in a very short period of time.

The other things to consider on your podcast are:

  1. Monologues vs Guest Interviews: I found when I was solely doing guest interviews my downloads were generally quite low because I was selecting relatively unknown people with small audiences and my guests weren't promoting the episode. When I switched to 3 monologues to every 1 guest interview my downloads went up fourfold and people enquiring after my lead magnets also shot up, plus the guest interviews got a lot more traction.
  2. Platform: Choosing the right platform is paramount, originally I was on Anchor.fm which was good enough, but I didn't find the distribution was as wide as I wanted it to be, when I switched to Podbean again the management of the podcast was easier but the downloads increased dramatically because of the wider distribution.
  3. Reviews: ASK PEOPLE FOR REVIEWS!!!
  4. Spring Clean: Spring clean your podcast periodically. During th e100th episode relaunch I went through and SEO optimised all of the episode titles and descriptions, removed some of the lesser downloaded episodes. Ordered the episodes into seasons. And again on doing all of this the downloads went up.
