16 Dec 2022Balenciaga Catastrophe, Advent Calendars & Snapchat Filters: When An Apology Simply Isn't Enough00:43:55

🚨 *TRIGGER WARNING* 🚨 - This podcast contains topics of: child pornography and grooming.

In this episode of the Fashademix, Laura and Sophie have a meaningful conversation about childhood experiences and how they have impacted their buying decisions and as well as how they handle day to day pressures.

They also discuss in depth the catastrophic error made by the luxury fashion house Balenciaga. For over a century, the high fashion brand has been synonymous with wearable luxury, fluid tailoring, and in more recent years – Kim Kardashian. However, after several atrocious styling decisions in November earlier this year, Balenciaga is now being uttered in the same breath as child pornography, grooming, and, even Satan. What does this mean for the future of the brand.

They get to know M&S with their recent Christmas advert calendar and look forward to the new year and what lies ahead for The Fashademix!

HAPPY NEW YEAR! Love Laura, Sophie and Producer Pete!

13 May 2021Fashion Babs: The Future of Fashion Education01:03:24

This week Sophie and Laura talk more about their careers as academics and supporting future fashion graduates in the fashion education journey. Special mentions go to Birmingham City University, and The School of Fashion and Textiles, where they both lecture on the Fashion Business and Promotion course. Sophie and Laura address the ongoing stigma around fashion as a career, especially the jump from school to university, and the presumption that 'fashion' isn't deemed a viable career. They aim to break down those barriers, address those negative retail head lines and discuss the sheer opportunities for anyone wanting to be educated to transfer to the fashion industry. Their special guest is fellow academic Mike Hansell, their friend and ex-colleague who formed part of their 'bcu babs' crew. Mike joins them by telling his own tales of education, his love for the 'shacket', working for some of the UKs leading retailers and now for another University as a senior fashion lecturer.
