(durendawilson.com) There has been so much going on in the world around us over the last 10 months and especially the last 2 months. It's been overwhelming for many of us and I have spent hours and hours seeking the Lord and asking him to give me a sustainable posture, in other words, a solid place where I can plant my feet and stay at peace. In that process, God has revealed places in my heart where I've built my house on rock...and places where I have built it on sand. My guess is that you can relate to this as well. In the meantime, we are still trying to be the wives and moms that God has called us to be. This creates an inner conflict because we have constantly been fed the lie that we have to be perfect moms and have everything together (or at least mostly together) or we will mess up our kids. Our desire to be good moms, more importantly, godly moms, is from the Lord, but the enemy twists that and uses it against us as he tries to make us believe that we have to have everything figured out. I think I can safely say that at this point we have far more questions than answers. But we serve a faithful loving God who sets our feet on solid ground! Do you ever have that feeling like everything you do could have been done better?
It’s every woman’s battle, especially every mom’s:
“I’m not enough. I’ll never be enough.”
“I could have done that so much better”
“It would have been better if I would have ________.”
“That was lame.”
These words suck the life out of us and yet the enemy continues to effectively use them.
Nothing makes me more angry, frustrated, and hurt than doing my best and still feeling like it’s not enough.
Cue in having 8 kids and there was potential for some serious feelings of inadequacy:
Could I pull off raising/homeschooling 8 kids and not miss something?
Would some of my kids go off the rails because I failed to be enough?
Would they hate the way they were raised or homeschooled?
Would they see me as a failure?
Our thoughts of inadequacy come from many places including regrets of the past, concerns for the present, and worries about the future.

This is another episode in a series that I’ve been doing where I share a bit of truth and the simple, unhurried word of God. The purpose is to give you a tool that helps you and your family to meditate on God’s word. You can listen as soon as you get up, before bed, if you’re feeling anxious, during quiet time with the kids, or having a hard time sleeping, whatever works for your family! I like to share some simple truths before we dive into the main topic verses. I’m trying to do it in a way that is easy for the kids to understand as well! Sometimes it’s hard to slow down. I know I love to be productive but meditating on God’s word IS productive, in the most important way!

Narratives are essentially stories. We are all living from a narrative in our heads, but the question is what or whose narrative? Let’s pause for a few minutes and take stock of what we are believing. God’s word says that as a man thinks in his heart, so is he. Moms we are responsible to guard our hearts because everything we do flows from them and we want life and truth flowing from our hearts so that we are wise women who build our homes, not foolish ones who tear them down! (Proverbs 14:1)

I love the freedom that homeschooling affords and today I’m sharing why we opted to do school year-round. (Hint: it’s not as intense as it sounds!) We love the benefits of schooling year-round and I share many of them in this podcast. The one I forgot to mention was that while doing our “lighter” version of school in the summer, I often found it helpful to have a child focus on an area of weakness that we may have struggled to work on the rest of the year. If your family chooses not to school year-round and it's working for you, keep doing it! I always say, "If it's not broken, don't fix it!" but you may just find some encouraging ideas here!
