Good old Bob Chapek has done it once again! He has me all fired up with the announcement of price increases starting immediately on Genie+. On this episode I am bringing you another chapter in, You Know What Really Grinds My Gears? I said way back on Chapter 1 of You Know What Really Grinds My Gears? that once they started limiting the amount of people that could use Genie+, it was Disney (without saying it) admitting that the system was a failure, it was broken, and they needed to find a way to start decreasing the amount of people that were actually using i, and then a price increase would be next. They needed to decrease the amount of people using it, so it could run more efficiently, but they love the bottom line of what it brings in for pure profit, so here we are with simple math. If you want to lower the amount of people using it, but you want to still make the same amount of profit, a price increase was inevitable, and that is unfortunately the news we got today. What if I told you Star Wars was going to make a Disney+ show during the Vader time frame, but there would be ZERO references to the force, lightsabers, the Jedi, the Sith, or even Darth Vader himself, do you think you would be excited to see that series? I'll admit, I probably would say that's insane and that show will be junk, but Andor is here to prove all of us doubters wrong. This series was super intense and suspenseful, had very fun and interesting new characters, as well as some absolutely stellar acting performances as well. I cannot recommend this Star Wars show to you enough, whether you are a Star Wars fan or not, it really won't matter. A Star Wars fan may appreciate and understand more of the subtle items, characters, or places along the way, but in the end this is something fans of just good tv can certainly enjoy as well. I was just there a week ago from today, riding Splash Mountain on its final day, so Magic Kingdom is still fresh on my mind. I rode a ton of my favorites that day in addition to saying goodbye to Splash multiple times, so this felt like the perfect time to really go through the Magic Kingdom and put everything on a full ranking list. Just like Walt Disney said, the parks will never be done, they will always be changing, I feel the same way with this list. Once TRON opens up, and after Tiana's Bayou Adventure opens as well, this list will need to be looked at again, but for right now today, this list is where my heart lands on everything at The Magic Kingdom. I have been teasing it for weeks now, but on today's episode I finally let you know what has been going on behind the scenes here at The DMSW Podcast. I have teamed up with Hannah from the Learning Disney podcast, and we created "Podcast Mics for Magic". We are going to spend the next few weeks and months, trying to recruit our fellow Disney fans to help us fundraise for the CHOC Foundation, and it will all lead up to basically a big party out in California once Disneyland announces their final day for Splash Mountain out there. Anyone that has helped us fundraise along the way, that can make the trip out west, join us in the parks for one final push, and one last day to bring those donations in while we all ride Splash for the final time. The entire idea behind this is to focus on the Teamwork Makes the Dream Work type of mentality. Bob Iger and I are no longer together, and we are NEVER getting back together. News broke this week with Iger getting a contract extension that would keep him on as Disney's CEO through 2026. The straw that broke the camels back for me though, was just after signing his extension, he went on CNBC's Squawk Box and publicly came out against the writers that are currently on strike and I really just could not take it anymore. Well this episode is officially 1 week late, but I'm hoping the 5 minute opener on this one more than makes up for the wait to you, and I hope it makes you laugh (a few times) today. I made it a good way through recording this episode last week, and it was most definitely going to be a "You Know What Really Grinds My Gears?" type of episode. I thought about it, and decided to send that section of the episode to the trash bin, and redo it for today's episode release and try to focus the content more on the actual news updates while just sprinkling in some opinions along the way. I took some time off for the holidays to relax with my family, then we hit my birthday and New Years Day, and we made a BIG announcement for the future of the podcast on Instagram. It started with the announcement that Mando was not coming back for a 4th season and instead was being made into a movie. Then out of nowhere Disney dropped the announcement that we were going to get Moana 2 as a movie, in November of this year. Having to watch the Chiefs win another championship, along with the combo of a Disney+ commercial near the end of the game pushed me over the edge though, and driving home I knew the fire was finally ready to come out, so I had to turn the mic on and change up the episode plans for this week, and let you guys know what was going on with my opinions on this one.
