Feature Trip Report Talk about Goofys Sky School Redwood Creek Challenge Trail with the UP Characters. Disneyland Hotel, Tangaroa Terrece, Trader Sams, Paradise Garden Dining area, Boardwalk Pizza and Pasta Paradise Garden and Grill. What’s with the walk around vendors selling ice cream and stuff? In our final episode of 2011 we look back at all the cool events that happened at the Disneyland Resort this past year. NEWS Beware! Parks may hit capacity this weekend http://ocresort.ocregister.com/2011/12/16/beware-tourists-disney-parks-could-reach-capacity/105894/ Disneyland We will start seeing some wall pop up on Main Street. The Carnation Cafe will reclaim the space currently occupied by the Blue Ribbon Bakery and once again offer indoor dining in addition to its open-air patio. The Blue Ribbon will disappear completely starting January 5, with the new Jolly Holiday Bakery Cafe at the end of Main Street taking over the bakery duties. Next door, the Gibson Girl will also close to receive a remodel that will address the crowd-flow issues that this popular location deals with. With the Blue Ribbon Bakery closing and becoming space for sit-down dining, the Gibson Girl's overflow queue can no longer extend into the Blue Ribbon's space. Meanwhile at the end of Main Street, the former Plaza Pavilion is just about ready to reopen as the new Mary Poppins-themed Jolly Holiday Bakery Cafe. The new location will offer the line-up of baked goods and coffee drinks currently available at the Blue Ribbon Bakery along with new signature entrees including hot sandwiches and fresh salads. The new Jolly Holiday marquee went up last week and looks quite similar to the old Plaza Pavilion signage. DCA Carlsand looks fantastic. Over at the Fly and Buy retail location in Condor Flats, the gas pumps were remove and replace with new ones. The old ones had a dirty abandoned look to them where as the new pumps have a clean and 1930’s style look to them. Feature - A look back (from our perspective)

Disneyland Gets Hit With DOSH Code Violations & Fines - A few weeks ago Disney suddenly closed down Space Mountain, Matterhorn, and Soarin’ over California due to not passing DOSH inspections for worker safety. The proposed penalties are nearly $235,000. Matterhorn and Soarin’ has since reopened but as of today, Space Mountain remains closed and not set to reopen until 4/24 (thursday so may be open by the time we record)1 I’m now reading that the DOSH now won’t allow train engineers to get water from the water tower of New Orleans Square station to power up the train? Getting Ready for Mickey and the Magical Map Market House, and Disnyana is now officially closed and reopen as starbucks. A Fresh Take on Blue Bayou Menu Debuts Today at Disneyland Park Delicious Ideas for Mother’s Day at the Disneyland Resort MouseInfo.com reports that a cancellation fee for dining and "transformation" experiences are coming - Beginning May 9 you could be charged a $10 cancellation fee (PER PERSON) if you don't cancel a Disneyland Resort restaurant/transformation reservation at least one day before the reservation. The policy begins for reservations on or after June 24. Droid Factory opens in Tomorrowland- You can now build your own custom Droid at the Droid Factory in Star Traders in Tomorrowland. Mix and match parts and colors, even add Mickey Mouse ears! The cost is $12.95 for one and $19.95 for two purchased at the same time. Tip of the Week Looking for a sweet snack at DCA? Try the gourmet marshmallows at Trolley Treats. Flavors vary daily depending on the kitchen. Not sure if there is a way to check with Disney to see what will be offered during a particular day. I know Candy Kitchen has their own Hotline at (714) 781-0112 Anyhow, I have two tips about this place. First, Trolley Treats recently started selling smaller portions of their marshmallows. Normally they sell the flavors in a package of two large portions at $5.95. But you can get the smaller ones at the counter. I believe you have a choice of three for $4.95. Here is a list of flavors. Campfire S’mores - Vanilla marshmallow on top of a crunchy graham cracker with a layer of chocolate between. Banana Split - Banana Marshmallow with caramel, chocolate drizzle and cherry on top. Luscious Lemon - Lemony flavored marshmallow with graham cracker crumbs and a lemon marmalade drizzle. Peanut Butter Chocolate Madness - This is a peanut butter/chocolate flavored marshmallow with chocolate chips, chopped peanuts and peanut butter cookie crumbles. Raspberry Chip - Raspberry infused marshmallow with semi-sweet chocolate chips. Watermelon - Dual layered marshmallow in light green and pink. Flavored with watermelon and contains chocolate chips to look like seeds. This is my wife's favorite. Nutmallow - Generous coating of chocolate on top of a vanilla marshmallow with walnuts. During the Holidays they have peppermint and egg nog flavors. Last year they did not sell the peppermint. During our Holiday Tour, cast members told us that they were only giving them to guest on the tour. Not sure if it will change, but it was the best peppermint marshmallow I've ever tasted. Egg nog was good too, but could be better. HERE'S THE SECOND TIP: Try to get the marshmallows from the back kitchen. Look at what they're making and ask the cast members if you can purchase a fresh marshmallow. They may be reluctant, but just ask nicely. This makes a HUGE difference in the flavor, especially with the S'mores. It's hard to tell how long some of the packages on the floor have been sitting there. With the S'mores, the graham cracker gets soft. When fresh, it's really crunchy. I'm assuming that's probably the case with the other marshmallows that have some type of pastry with it. Star Tours On opening morning, the queue for the attraction stretched from the entrance of Tomorrowland, filled the central plaza and stretched down Main Street, U.S.A. Following the attraction's opening around noon, the line moved off Main Street, but still ranged between two to four hours throughout the day. Little Mermaid Also on Thursday, Disney officially opened the new Little Mermaid attraction in California Adventure. The event included a live performance by the voice of Ariel herself, Jodi Benson along with Sherie Rene Scott who portrays Ursula in Broadway's "The Little Mermaid" show. Also in attendance was the original voice of Ursula, actress Pat Carroll. Following Thursday's grand opening, the rush to experience the new attraction was felt Friday morning as eager guests filled a massive extended queue that wound its way throughout Paradise Park, along Grizzly Trail and into the park's entryway, Sunshine Plaza. Daniel and Paul bring you another Five Senses of Disneyland segment. This time it's Tomorrowland! We also visit the Main Street Newsstand and Tommy brings us our Tip of the Week. We would also like to thank our very first sponsor, Know the Mouse! Disneyland There were 17,300 registered runners over the entire weekend; 12,000 of which ran in Sunday’s half marathon. The race was targeted, but not limited to, women and the numbers certainly reflected it. Of the 12,000 runners, 11,082 of them were women! The Disneyland Resort traditionally holds a half marathon in the late summer but the addition of this new winter half marathon takes advantage of a traditionally slower time at the resort. The result is an influx in tourism dollars to the resort area and hotels to the tune of an estimated $14 million dollars! Disneyland is updating 'The Magic, The Memories & You' projection show for Valentine's Day. New version starts feb 1st. and runs through april. “One of my favorite moments comes when the king and queen from “Tangled” appear on a balcony, lifting a single lantern to the sky for their missing daughter. It’s soon joined by hundreds of others, creating a magical sight sure to draw “oohs” and “ahhs” from the crowd. It gives me goosebumps just thinking about it! Of course, the most heart-warming part of any segment of “The Magic, The Memories and You!” is the images of our guests, captured by Disney PhotoPass photographers during the day and incorporated into the show each night. “ The Matterhorn continues to disappear behind scaffolding as its six-month refurbishment gets underway. In fact I saw some reports that the interior of the queue has been demolished. The roof remains however. Haunted Mansion has reopened as It’s a Small World closes. Disneyland celebrated the Lunar New Year over the past few weeks. This year this did it in the Small World Mall. Last year it was part of the Family Fun Weekends. They added some decorations and food items as well. They have a Mulan and Mushu meet and greet. As well as some other Disney characters in Asian garb. Getting ready fro Mardi Gras There is a new video inside the waiting area for The Enchanted Tiki Room. I actually haven't watched the video in years. But I remember it being all 70’s. It’s still a video that’s about Dole but from what I hear it’s kinda bad. Tom Cruise Visits DL DCA In Carlsland a new sign popped up to the right of the courthouse that says, “FastPass Distribution” so it’s safe to say the RRR will have fastpass! They also started playing around with the neon lighting over at Carsland as well as lighting the Cadillac Range. It has sort of a purpleish look to them. I must admit seeing the photos I’m a little concerned. My first knee-jerk reaction is that the main drag looks very busy. There is this row of streetlights and it looks... busy. Maybe too much. Hard to tell. Something I didn’t notice last week was that Red Wood Creek Challenge Trail is closed. Looks like the are referbing in and it is set to reopen in March. And much like the 24 hour parties, this event was poorly planned for those who tried to get in. For those who did get in it was Hellish! According to reports, Disney has over one million passholders. They do this, on a nice warm friday night, with no blackout dates. What did they think only a few will show up? They ran out of the special food they advertised, they sold out on event shirts. They need to plan these things better! Members Learn Details about Club 33’s Remodel - InsideTheMagic.net shares more details about the upcoming remodeling of the club. This week members have been given access to a preview center to learn about what will be changing. (Source: InsidetheMagic.net) GAC becomes DAS (Disabled Assistance System) Beginning Wed Oct 9th. The Guest Assistance Card is being discontinued beginning Wed Oct 9th. People with disabilities will no longer to able to bypass people in lines. The new process will be as follows: Guest with wheelchairs can wait in lines that can accommodate them. Like all rides in DCA. (I’m not clear how it works for non accessible rides. Guests who are eligible for a DAS goes to City Hall and has their photo taken. Once they have the Card guests will go to a Kiosk and get a time issued to them as to when they can ride the ride. Time will be based on the current wait time. Minus 10 or 15 minutes for travel time. So if a ride that is 90 minutes then their time stamp will be for 75 minutes after the stapm is issued. Only the person who is photographed can be issued the timestamp. So they can’t transfer it. Quick Hits In California Adventure, a new Cars 2 character meet-and-greet with Lightning McQueen and Mater has sprung up along the Cars Land construction walls near A Bug's Land. The Cars now appear here for photos instead of their former location in Condor Flats. Over at Little Mermaid some new trees has appeared at the entrance to provie shade for guest as they wait in line. In Tomorrowland the Main Entrance to Innoventions is closed. News Mouseplanet posted his announcement email to his colleagues today: Fantasy Faire opens March 12th At The Royal Hall, there will be three princess meet and greet areas. During the Q&A, swing dancing was brought up MousePlanet tweeted out their response saying “The stage is flexible, but the decision will be made later. For now, full-time Fantasy Faire.” Nescafe Coffee is leaving Disneyland Disney has entered into a long-term agreement with Joffrey’s Coffee and Tea Co to provide the standard coffee at Walt Disney World, Disneyland, and Disney Vacation Club properties. In addition, Joffrey’s will develop special blends exclusive to Disney and resort hotel rooms will all have a catalog where guests can purchase Joffrey’s products to take home. These changes will be complete within the next few months. Just to give you an idea how quickly Limited time magic goes, we have had two events go since our last recording. And two more events come and go. What has ended is Golden Horseshoe Review Tribute and the New Orleans Bayou Bash. What has COME and go meaning the event happened and is now gone Lunar New Year at DCA and True Love Week Extended hours at DCA on Thursdays. 2 extra hours to enjoy. Finally it seems that they will now start enforcing fastpass return times as they recently did in Florida. Of course this draws outrage from the fan community which frankly I don’t understand. Signs has gone up although I understand the enforcement is not actually in place yet. Signs are up merely to start getting passholders used to the idea. Same treatment for Indiana Jones which also closed today for a few months. Fanstamic had its Glow with the Show. I didn’t like the idea at first but from the video it looks like it is a nice addition.

Feature - A fun article to talk about Tip of the Week If your holiday tradition includes a trip to Disneyland for one of its famous fresh-made candy canes, here are the dates and details you'll need to start making plans for 2011. The first batch of fresh candy canes will be made at the Candy Palace on Main Street, U.S.A. on November 30. The candy cane schedule usually begins the day after Thanksgiving, but with an early holiday this year the park seems to be waiting a week, but adding an extra day in December. The full schedule is: Last year the candy canes cost $9.95 each, and were limited to two per person. We expect pricing and limits to be similar this year. Disneyland usually makes two—sometimes three—batches a day, but the number of candy canes in each batch can vary based in temperature and humidity. The typical batch yields fewer than 90 canes. If Disneyland follows the normal operating pattern, tickets will be distributed at the Candy Palace at park opening each day, with the first batch of candy canes usually available to purchase about one hour after the official park opening time. News The Flash Flood scene has been updated. Feature Restaurant Review PANDA EXPRESS UNIVERSAL STUDIOS The best word to describe eating at Panda Express in Universal Studios is WOW! It’s located near the Jurassic Park ride, so it’s easy to find. There are two lines to make the service go quickly. However, this is a popular place, so expect a wait. Panda Express labels itself as “Gourmet Chinese Food.” So, right off the bat you know you’re going to be served dishes better than what you get at Disneyland. Lucky Fortune Cookery, are you listening? There are only 4 different entrées available, so it’s super simple to make a choice: Orange Chicken First off, they give you generous amounts of Chow Mein and Fried Rice. What better way to fuel your theme park adventure than a Mega Carb Load? Mix the two up and it’s like there’s Starch Party in your mouth! Their famous Orange Chicken is a sweet and salty sensation. The glaze coating is sweet and sticky, with fruity notes of artificial orange flavor. Those fried chicken parts are crispy on the outside with a chewy texture inside. One of the most enjoyable aspects about this dish is not knowing what you’re eating. Is it white meat, is it dark meat, or how about some other part of the chicken? It’s like a fun guessing game. No wonder it’s their number 1 seller everywhere. Don’t sleep on the Kung Pao Chicken though. Everyone needs salt in their diet, right?. It’s an essential nutrient for human beings. This dish is just the ticket. At 970mg of sodium per serving, this provides almost half your recommended daily intake. It’s like licking a salt tablet in a good way. Then there’s the Broccoli Beef. The wonderful thing about this entrée is that when it goes in your mouth, everything pretty much tastes the same. Sure, there are some textural differences. But the sauce makes it challenging to know where the beef begins and the broccoli ends. You get your veggie intake without even knowing it! This is the perfect dish if you’re one of those people who don’t like broccoli. I must admit, I haven’t tried the Beijing Beef yet. However, based on the fact that Panda Express is Gourmet Chinese Food, I can only imagine the flavors! The cost for a 2-item plate is $10. Sure, it may sound expensive but you’re getting a premium gourmet meal here. Also, be prepared for to wait. This place is very popular. It takes about about 20-minutes to find a seat and there are no tables indoors. Oh, and on days when the park closes at 6pm, this place shuts its doors at 4pm. So, plan your day accordingly. You don’t want to miss out on all the Gourmet Chinese Food. One last thing: Ignore the 1-star overall rating on Yelp. Those people are obviously Disneyland spies who are jealous of Universal Studios having Panda Express on property. That’s it for my review, thanks for listening! So say goodbye to Engine Ears Toys, Bakers Field Bakery, and Bur-r-r bank Ice Cream. The entrance to these shops have a train facade (The California Zephyr). The shops on the other side of sunshine plaza, including Greetings from California and the candy shop also close in Aug.
