13 Jul 2022Anthony Adams (Ace of Hearts, Utah)00:39:23

Our card this week is Anthony “Tony” Adams, the Ace of Hearts from Utah)

In November 1978, 25-year-old Anthony “Tony” Adams was found viciously murdered in his Salt Lake City apartment. For more than 40 years, Tony’s case has remained unsolved, but not for lack of theories about what might have led up to his slaying. These are the questions police and community members have pondered over the past four decades that have never been answered.

If you have any information about the murder of Anthony “Tony” Adams in February of 1978, please call the Salt Lake City Police Department at 801-799-3000. Or you can submit a tip by texting TIP-SLCPD to 274637. His case number is 1978-86442.

If you know anything about the murder of Diana Ferris in April of 1996, please call the Connecticut Cold Case Tip Line at 1-866-623-8058, or you can email tips to cold.case@ct.gov.

28 Aug 2024Jeannette Drzewiecki (8 of Diamonds, Texas)00:31:20

Our card this week is Jeannette Drzewiecki, the 8 of Diamonds from Texas.

When 19-year-old Jeannette left the little rented house she shared with her husband Matt in Odessa, Texas on the evening of September 13th, 1982, he had every reason to believe she’d be back in no time. What he couldn’t have known was that a silent countdown started the moment she walked out the door... and that every passing minute brought him one step closer to a life he never planned. One where he would be left to raise their 11-day-old daughter all on his own.

  • If you know anything about the disappearance of Jeannette Drzewiecki from Odessa, Texas, in September of 1982, you can leave an anonymous tip with Odessa Crime Stoppers at 432-333-8477. You can also reach Det. Gonzalez on her direct line at 432-335-4926.

26 Feb 2025Susan Poupart (7 of Spades, Wisconsin)00:31:50

Our card this week is Susan "Susie" Poupart, the 7 of Spades from Wisconsin.

When 29-year-old Susie went to a house party on her reservation, surrounded by friends and so close to home, she should’ve been safe. But when the mother of two left the party in a car with some younger men, things took a turn for the worse.

Susie never made it home, and six months later, her remains were found in a nearby forest. The men Susie was last seen with became immediate suspects, but to this day, there just isn’t enough evidence to charge them with her murder… Or is there?

  • If you know anything about the 1990 murder of Susan Poupart in Lac du Flambeau, Wisconsin, please speak up. You can call the Vilas County Sheriff’s Department at 715-479-4441 or the Lac du Flambeau Tribal Police Department at 715-588-7717. Or, if you’d prefer to remain anonymous, you can call the Vilas County Sheriff’s anonymous tip line at 1-800-472-7290.

We found Susie's case back in 2021 while we set out to cover the case of Rhys Pocan, a 35-year-old Indigenous woman who was murdered in Wisconsin in the ‘80s. But while we were in the field, we uncovered a disturbing pattern of murders with similarities to Rhys’ that were just too blatant to ignore, including Susie's. So, we spent the next three years working with local and federal law enforcement to try and get to the bottom of it.

25 Sep 2024Ralph Salazar & Alice Griego (Ace of Hearts, Utah)00:20:44

Our card this week is Ralph Salazar and Alice Griego, the Ace of Hearts from Utah.

Back in October of 2023, we were contacted by one of Alice Griego’s son, Frankie, about covering his mother’s case. He was a listener of The Deck and had previously heard us cover cases in Utah. Unknown to him, our reporting team had already flagged his mother’s case as one we needed to take a closer look at. Not just because it was unsolved, but because we felt it had never received the full coverage it deserved. And we are confident someone out there knows the truth. Maybe it’s time for that someone to come forward…

  • If you have any information about the murders of Ralph Salazar and Alice Griego in December of 2012 in White City, Utah, please contact Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Detective Ben Pender at (385) 468-9816 or email him at bpender@saltlakecounty.gov.

When duck hunters discovered human remains in an area called Saltair near The Great Salt Lake in Utah in the fall of 2000, investigators began the difficult task of trying to learn the real name of the woman they called “Saltair Sally".  It took 12 years for the remains to be identified as those of Nikole “Niki” Bakoles, a 20-year-old mom originally from Washington state. 18 May 2022Owachige Osceola (8 of Diamonds, Oklahoma)00:30:18

Our card this week is Owachige Osceola (8 of Diamonds, Oklahoma)

Recently divorced and living on her own in a new city, 27-year-old Owachige Osceola’s life was in a season of transition before she was killed in the bedroom of her Norman, Oklahoma apartment in September 2013. While the medical examiner who performed her autopsy concluded her cause and manner of death were “undetermined,” a detective who remains on the case today insists a killer has been allowed to walk free for nearly a decade.

Please join us in writing a letter to the Oklahoma Attorney General’s Office calling for a formal independent review of the methodology used during Owachige’s autopsy. Below you will find a prompt you can use and the address to send the letter to.

(WHERE TO SEND)

Mr. Gentner Drummond

Oklahoma Attorney General's Office

313 NE 21st Street
Oklahoma City, OK 73105

eric.pfeifer@ocme.ok.gov

To Whom It May Concern:

I'm writing in regard to the criminal investigation related to the mysterious death of Ms. Owachige Osceola in September 2013, which is being conducted by the Norman Police Department.

As you may be aware, Ms. Osceola's cause and manner of death were classified by the Oklahoma Office of the Chief Medical Examiner as "undetermined" despite credible evidence that she was intentionally strangled to death in the bedroom of her apartment.

After hearing concerns expressed by Norman Police Department investigators working this case and closely listening to details about the criminal investigation into her death as reported by Audiochuck Podcast Network's "The Deck," I'm deeply troubled that the medical examiner's office has been unwilling to reconsider its original ruling — directly hindering further investigative efforts to pursue justice for Ms. Osceola and her loved ones.

I implore the Oklahoma Attorney General's Office to reexamine evidence in this case and to insist that the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner consider that Ms. Osceola's death was the result of a homicidal act. I also kindly request that this office publicly publish its conclusions in the matter.

Respectfully,

[YOUR FIRST & LAST NAME]

Agustin Chacon, 25, and Marshall McCarthy, 37, were both shot to death in their homes in the same Odessa, Texas, neighborhood on the same winter night in 1982. While Marshall’s case nearly had too many leads for investigators to chase, Agustin’s hardly had any. A language barrier between police and Agustin’s roommates made things even harder. Now, more than 40 years later, one cold case detective is working through the different challenges in each case as she tries to solve both of these men’s murders.

Heading into her senior year, she already had plans to go to college to become a physical therapist, and there was no question, she had the brains and the talent to do just that. It would take a thief, a monster in the middle of the night, to take that away from her. But that’s exactly what happened one August evening, and her mother thinks she knows the true identity of this so-far untraceable culprit.

  • If you have any information about the murder of Kemberly Ramer in 1997, please contact the Walton County Sheriff’s Office at (850) 892-8111, or remain anonymous by calling the Emerald Crime Stoppers at (850) 863-TIPS (8477) or submit a tip online at EmeraldCoastCrimeStoppers.com

24 Aug 2022Jenny Lin (Queen of Hearts, California) Part 100:35:24

Our card this week is Jenny Lin, the Queen of Hearts from California.

In 1994, the brutal murder of a 14-year-old inside her parents' safe suburban house left a community shaken to its core, because not only had a bright and talented life been suddenly snuffed out, but police struggled to find a motive. And the more clues they uncovered, the more investigators realized the nightmare they were dealing with: Jenny Lin’s murder was more than a crime of opportunity —it had been carefully planned. For nearly 30 years, Jenny’s murder has weighed on Alameda County and terrorized detectives as they’ve pondered the same question over and over since 1994: why Jenny?

If you have any information about the murder of Jenny Lin on May 27, 1994, please contact the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office at 510-667-3636, or call the Jenny Lin hotline at 855-4-JENNY-LIN. There’s currently a $200,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of Jenny’s killer.

Our card this season is Ada Haradine, the 3 of Clubs from Indiana.

"The Deck Investigates" returns with Season 2, delving deep into the perplexing case of Ada Haradine, a 40-year-old mother of two who vanished without a trace from her Elkhart, Indiana home on a seemingly ordinary Wednesday afternoon in May 1985.

Over 14 gripping episodes, we'll meticulously reconstruct the events leading up to Ada's disappearance, explore the initial efforts to find her and the myriad of suspects and theories that emerged in the wake of her vanishing. The investigation takes a dramatic turn when Ada's remains are discovered three years later in a wooded area 12 miles from her home, transforming a missing persons case into a homicide investigation. As law enforcement scrambles to make sense of new evidence, the focus shifts to surprising potential suspects, including Ada's neighbor. Through exclusive interviews with family members, law enforcement, and key witnesses, "The Deck Investigates" grapples with questions about the challenges of pursuing justice decades after a crime. Join us as we peel back the layers of this baffling cold case, reexamine old leads, and shine a light on overlooked details in the quest to finally answer the question: Who killed Ada Haradine, and why?

14 Feb 2024Charles & Jennifer Chia (Jack of Diamonds, Nevada)00:35:41

Our card this week is Charles and Jennifer Chia, the Jack of Diamonds from Nevada.

Charles and Jennifer Chia could see their apartment complex from their school bus stop – that’s how close to their building it was. Such a small distance for something to go so terribly wrong. But a couple hundred feet is all it took for someone to stop the Chia siblings from making it home safely. That person has gone undetected for more than 34 years. But present-day detectives say their days are now numbered, as new technology could soon expose this nameless predator.

If you know anything about the murders of Charles and Jennifer Chia, contact the Reno Police Department’s Homicide Unit at (775) 334-2188. You can also anonymously report information by calling Secret Witness at (775) 322-4900.
