Jasmine paints original artwork and large scale murals. From her home studio, she also creates digital art in the form of textile designs and art prints. Jasmine’s work is a colourful chaos of cut out shapes. She draws inspiration from nature and creates her initial designs through paper collage and hand drawn marks. Her signature style has evolved through the way she plays with form, shapes and layering. Aroha is a Māori creative passionate about promoting the Māori language and culture through unique designs, products and resources. Her creative business, Maimoa Creative is a design studio based in Tauranga. Aroha’s aim is to help normalise the use of te reo Māori throughout Aotearoa using her background in graphic design and brush-lettering calligraphy. This week on The Creative Mother Podcast host Kate Hursthouse talks to screenwriter, actor, film maker and mum of two Sophie Henderson. Sophie has worked extensively for Silo Theatre as an actor and was named Metro’s Best Actress in both 2009 and 2014, for her work with the company in THE SCENE and BELLEVILLE. She has been in a number of film and television productions including HUMAN TRACES, THE MOST FUN YOU CAN HAVE DYING and the iconic OUTRAGEOUS FORTUNE. Her first screenplay, FANTAIL in which she also starred, won over audiences at home and overseas. FANTAIL premiered at the Rotterdam Film Festival and picked up a People’s Choice Award at Melbourne International Film Festival. Her second film BABY DONE with Taika Waititi’s Piki Films starring Rose Matafeo and Matthew Lewis was released internationally in 2020. And her third film THE JUSTICE OF BUNNY KING was also released in 2021 and had its world premiere at Tribeca Film Festival where it received a Nora Ephron Award Special Jury Mention. She has been an art mentor, curated shows, a fundraiser and has caught the eye of many NZ and Australian collectors. In the last decade she has moved her practice to the streets gaining recognition quickly for her bold animals that dominate the urban landscape and serve as guardians. Tara was born in the Cook Islands and grew up in New Zealand, however Tara has been living and working in London as a professional pattern cutter for the last 16 years. During this time Tara has worked right across the Fashion industry, from Top Shop and All Saints to luxury catwalk brands like J.W Anderson, Erdem, and Roland Mouret. This breadth of experience gave her insight and expertise into how the fashion industry really works.It is this behind the scenes understanding that lead her to re-evaluate how the fashion industry was serving the public and prompted her to create a means for people to dip out of fast fashion without dipping out of fashion altogether. Paper Theory was created in a quest to help others who, like Tara wanted to get as far away as possible from the fast fashion system – but didn’t want to leave fashion altogether. She does this with her distinctive colours, and by injecting all of her strongest positive, magical energy into every single piece. Jen paints joy. She uses acrylic paints with fresh colours, sweeping lines and a contemporary edge. She has worked in abstract and portraiture, but found her artistic home in contemporary abstracted landscapes. Colour is her love language. A brush with breast cancer gave her the push she needed to become a full time artist and over the last few years she has gone from strength to strength.
