Connoisseur Chris took a recent vacation to North Carolina and generously brought back a unique 8oz can of an Imperial Stout from Two Tides Brewery, located in Savannah, Georgia. 

Stuffed full of roasted peanuts, Ghana Cocoa Nibs, Madagascar Vanilla, and an insane amount of real-deal waffle cones, this beer sounds like a liquid drumstick.

Show Corrections:

1. @2:10 mention the Blyth Inn as the property considered purchasing - it was actually the old Radford Construction building. 2. @8:18 mention the name of Thresher’s Hall, but it's called Treasure Hall 3. Most importantly, @10:11 discuss the canning line, indicating they initially had 15% spillage then got a better canning line. Correct information - while they contract brewed elsewhere, the spillage was 15%, which inspired them to install a Krones canning line as part of their build. 

As the March Madness rolls into the Sweet 16 and everyone’s brackets have been completely busted, the Connoisseurs chat a bit about the showdown happening on Untappd’s social platform.

Untappd created a 64 brewery tournament style bracket that pinned the 64 highest rated breweries on Untappd and seeded accordingly. This started on the same day as March Madness (Thursday, March 21st) and was put on their instagram stories for followers to vote for their favourites.

Waterloo Brewing, which first opened as Brick Brewing in 1984, has been credited as a leader in introducing the province to craft beer. It is considered the largest craft brewery in Canada and owns the Laker brand as well as the Canadian rights to LandShark, Margaritaville and Seagram Coolers.

As of March 7th, 2023, the company was officially acquired by Carlsberg Canada which is a subsidiary of The Carlsberg Group with headquarters in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Producer’s Special – S.2 E.18 – Let the Fun Be GIN

Thanks to the staff at Brock Street Brewing who not only provided the beers on last week’s episode but also graciously sent some of their Raspberry Lemon Vodka soda and their Contemporary Gin for us to try. As a result, Producer Dakota decided this was the opportune time for the Connoisseurs to dabble in a mixology competition, bringing our best gin based cocktail to the episode. It’s almost that time again to open up the door to your daily Advent calendar surprise! Last year around this time we discussed craft beer Advent calendars and how many craft breweries and local bottle shops have jumped on the craze.

At the end of the episode we threw out the idea of creating our own craft beer Advent calendar and we decided to use the breweries we have featured on the podcast. Now we have had more breweries than the 24 allotted slots, so we decided to start with our debut episode featuring Left Field and work back from there.

However, we wanted to make the beers as easily accessible as possible, so you could purchase and follow along with us! Therefore, we have compiled a list of every beer offered in the LCBO by each brewery and for those with more than 1 skew, we will randomly select a beer from that brewery.

In late February, a global fundraising initiative was created by Pravda Beer Theatre, a brewery located in Lviv, Ukraine where the proceeds from this collaborative beer recipe helped support the Ukrainian humanitarian efforts in the war against Russia.

Producer Parker purchased some of Broken Rail Brewery’s version of this beer which was brewed in collaboration with Upper Thames Brewing Company, a brewery featured on the podcast in Season 2 Episode 4.

This beer which was originally released starting March 29th was sold in cans, draft and growler fills at Broken Rail Brewery but was also made available at the Upper Thames Brewery and the Brickhouse Brew Pub in Woodstock (where it is still available on tap as of the release of this episode).
