25 Mar 2022Leverage Your Brand through Hosting Podcasts with Jeremy Slate00:18:53

In this episode of the CPA Marketing Genius Podcast, Salim’s guest, Jeremy Slate, will be sharing to us his unremarkable yet very extraordinary journey in the past years on branding and podcasting. His wisdom and expertise is sure to encourage marketers and business owners on making success happen in this space.

Here’s a bit about Jeremy:

Jeremy Ryan Slate, an entrepreneur, media expert, CEO and founder of Command Your Brand. He helps visionary founders to impact the world and better mankind through the power of appearing on top-rated podcasts. He has been named a top influencer by Forbes and Top Millennial Influencer by BuzzFeed. His mission is to help others make a huge impact — since he knows as individuals our impact can be finite and though helping others we can all have a big impact. Jeremy has experienced and conquered some of life's toughest challenges — both personally and professionally.

At 19, he went into knee surgery but due to complications ended up being unconscious for 3 days and receiving last rites from a priest. Then at 24, his mom, who he had always admired, had a debilitating stroke that left her with permanent disabilities. Professionally, Jeremy tried it all to make a living — teaching, network marketing, in-home personal training, selling life insurance, buying products from China and selling them on Amazon. Instead, he became really good at creating debt and not paying bills. Then he had the idea to start a podcast. With few listeners and below-average content, his first podcast, Rock Ur Life, failed. Determined to try again, he launched another podcast called The Create Your Own Life Show, which saw 10,000 listens in its first 30 days and led to him speaking to many of his heroes.

Now, 6 years later it has millions of downloads and nearly 1,000 episodes. After his own podcast success, he had a fellow podcaster approach him about starting a company to book people on podcasts. The company lasted 9 months and did over six figures of revenue but resulted in Jeremy and an employee doing 90% of the work. The partnership and company dissolved and re-formed as Command Your Brand, with his wife Brielle as the co-founder. Since its inception, Command Your Brand has booked clients on thousands of podcasts, closing in on seven figures in revenue with a team of just over 10.

If you are interested in leveraging your brand and enhancing your podcast, then this is the episode for you! Listen through the podcast and keep these marketing secrets alive in your business.

“It's not enough just to understand all the technical sides of being a CFO. You also have to understand what we call the soft sides of being a CFO. You have to understand how to talk to business owners and a way to get them to take action. You have to understand how to make plans.” - Adam Lean

"Every business wants somebody that they trust. And if you're already their accountant, they trust you. They inherently trust you and if you come to them and say, “Hey, I was going through your tax return, I was going through your books, and I noticed I spotted some red flags and I spotted some opportunities for growth.” Can we get on a call tomorrow or next week? Who's going to say no to that? So, they're all going to be interested, and because they already trust you." - Adam Lean

“I feel the accountant is very uniquely placed with a lot of trusts, a lot of relationships that they've got, and a really a look in the inside. And if they can then utilize their observation and bringing into the business owner in terms of what they need to do going forward to make their business better and more efficient and so forth.” – Salim Omar, CPA

"If you like working with the IRS if you like to add extra money to your practice because you can make some really good money just on a small handful of cases. And the other thing that this lends to is we find that nowadays, because of regulations, because of the state of the IRS, because of a lot of different things, a lot of practitioners are staying in it a little bit longer in tax prep, then they probably wanted to, they're probably ready to retire and retiring with a handful of clients and working resolution. It's something that can be done remotely." - Dan Henn

"Mindset is the biggest thing, finding a coach, working with a coach, and being coachable because there's a difference between finding a coach and working with a coach. But if you're not coachable then it's not going to work." - Dan Henn

Tweetable Quotes

“In order to win people's trust, you need to deliver value. So, email is copywriting, which is essentially salesmanship in print.” - Scott Bywater

"Lead with value, because if I'm leading with value for the majority of the time, occasionally you can have a direct sales email. But the majority of the time I'm leading with value then it's natural that you're going to want to click on it." - Scott Bywater

"Don’t get offended, when their emails are getting deleted because they're sending it to a prospect and the prospect's deleting that email. Because they don't have a need perhaps for an accountant or that's not their area of focus at that time, but there will be a time when it will be." – Salim Omar, CPA
