An all-time great crime thriller classic? Or a stinky dud that proves studio films should disappear forever? THAT'S IT THAT'S THE ONLY TWO THINGS IT CAN BE THE WORLD IS A STRICTLY BINARY WORLD OF ABSOLUTES. Just kidding! It's neither of those things. But it IS a movie, and it features three very interesting actors. In this episode, Keith and Ev tackle "The Little Things," a new film recently released on HBOMax. They talk about Rami Malek's "sneaky sexuality," they discuss "Leeto vs. Letto," and they debate the structure and the moral of the story, or perhaps, the lack of one. The film is dark, violent, and often pessimistic. Also Marisa Tomei. Subscribe to The Bluff Council Podcast! Available anywhere you get your podcasts. 22 Aug 2022 | THE BLUFF COUNCIL PODCAST: Ep. 60 - "Spider-Man- No Way Home" | 00:46:42
It's the biggest movie of the year. It's the biggest movie of SEVERAL years. It's "Spider-Man: No Way Home," the latest tentpole installment of the MCU. Does it live up to the hype? 07 Mar 2022 | THE BLUFF COUNCIL PODCAST: Ep. 47 - "E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial" | 00:47:05
In this episode, Keith and Ev discuss "E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial," the 1982 classic by reasonably talented filmmaker Steven Spielberg. It's one of Ev's favorite movies of all time, but Keith doesn't have quite the same history with it. What makes this film so great? Is it the best "kids movie" of all time? Is this John Williams' best score? How does this hack Spielberg keep making such great films!? Lots of questions to seek the answers to. Per usual, it's really just a waste of everyone's time. 01 Sep 2023 | THE BLUFF COUNCIL PODCAST - Ep. 91 - Tremors | 00:45:25
It's finally here! In this episode, we go underground to dissect "Tremors," the 1990 monster movie cult classic directed by Ron Underwood and starring Kevin Bacon, Fred Ward, Finn Carter, Michael Gross, and Reba McEntire. It has long been one of Ev's favorite films, but Keith... you guessed it, Keith had never seen it. Opinions are had, and no one is safe (including "Jurassic Park"). LET'S GET INTO IT. 00:00 - Intro / This film narrowly misses Ev's Top 10 Favorites list For more film reviews, movie reviews, film discussions, film analysis, "Tremors" reviews, "Tremors" (1990) review, "Tremors" reaction, movie talk pretty one day, etc., please consider subscribing to our channel! 17 Oct 2023 | THE BLUFF COUNCIL PODCAST - Ep. 96 - Ace Ventura Pet Detective | 00:46:58
It was a resounding commercial success when it was released in 1994, and it launched Jim Carrey to superstardom. It sparked a sequel, a cartoon series, a spinoff TV movie, and COUNTLESS teenage boys saying "Allllllllll righty then". But now, almost thirty years later, has any 90's comedy aged as poorly as "Ace Ventura: Pet Detective?" There is a LOT to unpack here. 12 Jan 2022 | THE BLUFF COUNCIL PODCAST: Ep. 36 - "Godzilla vs. Kong" | 00:26:32
In this episode, two titans (Keith and Ev) engage in an epic battle, only to be forced to team up to defeat an EVEN GREATER EVIL: "Godzilla vs. Kong," the new, big, dumb, loud, fun(?) movie available in theaters and on HBOMax. That's right! It's Godzilla fighting King Kong, and this time, it's personal! Or something. Keith and Ev discuss the film and ponder about the mostly pretty good reviews it has received from critics, the "story," the "characters," and all the sweet, sweet CGI monster fights. Is this movie as good as Rotten Tomatoes would have you believe?* Join The Bluff Council as we indulge ourselves with the finer things in life: "Godzilla vs. Kong" (2021). In this episode, Keith and Ev discuss the immaculate direction of Paul Thomas Anderson, the iconic cinematography and music, the stacked cast, the fact that the Oscars basically completely ignored this masterpiece, AND Keith refers to another man's penis as "the Holy Grail." 22 Sep 2023 | THE BLUFF COUNCIL PODCAST - Ep. 95 - Hook | 00:53:12
For millennials of a certain age, "Hook" is a beloved favorite. It's got stars (Robin Williams! Dustin Hoffman! Julia Roberts!), it's got production value, it's got the beloved Peter Pan IP, and it's got the most famous film director of all time. Only problem is... Spielberg hates it! Most of the stars didn't enjoy it! It was largely savaged by critics and was considered a commercial flop upon its release! How on God's green earth did this film miss!? Join us in Neverland (the imaginary one, not the real-life horror show one (OK but we do spend a second there, too...)) as we dive into all the good and all the bad of "Hook," Steven Spielberg's 1991 Peter Pan extravaganza. 00:00 - Intro / This movie is bonkers For more movie reviews, film reviews, film discussions, film analysis, movie talks, Hook reviews, Hook reactions, and hooked er... members, please consider liking this video and subscribing to our channel. In our tenth episode, Keith and Ev argue about storytelling structure, necessary degrees of closure in documentaries vs. narrative films, and sadly for everyone, the film "Wild Hogs" is referenced at some length. Then they argue some more, and we're told they've continued arguing about this film over the phone since shooting this episode. It's Ev's #5 Favorite Film of All Time: David Fincher's famously under-appreciated "Zodiac." Lists so far: Ev 10.) Up In the Air 9.) Guess Who's Coming to Dinner 8.) Birdman 7.) The Lobster 6.) Put on some Phil Collins to set the mood, and then settle in for this memorable look at "American Psycho." Our Top Ten Favorite Films Lists continue to evolve as Keith adds the 1996 Farrelly Bros. comedy "Kingpin" to the number five slot. The film fell right between "Dumb & Dumber" and "There's Something About Mary" during the Farrelly Bros. amazing 1990's run, but do you regard it as a classic? Keith certainly does. In this episode, Keith and Ev review Kingpin and discuss how the film is remembered, why the high stakes of the film matter so much to the comedy, and Ev attempts to convince Keith that Randy Quaid is miscast. "Utah! Get me two!" It's "Point Break," the 1991 action classic that needs no introduction. 02 Dec 2024 | Was Greta Gerwig snubbed by the Oscars | The Bluff Council debates | Ep.105 | 00:17:53
"Barbie" may be the biggest film story of the year. 1.5 BILLION dollars raked in. Immeasurable cultural impact. So when the director of the film, Greta Gerwig, was not one of the five directors nominated for Best Director at the upcoming 2024 Academy Awards, the streets of the internet were filled with rage. Was Greta Gerwig snubbed? Or were there simply five directors that Academy voters found to be more deserving? Should a film's box office and cultural impact play a larger role in the voting for these nominations? At the end of our recent Oscars Predictions Spectacular episode, we argued about this very subject. Keith thinks Greta should be there. Ev thinks that the Academy got it right. It gets heated. What do YOU think?

In our first ever VIEWER RECOMMENDATION episode, Keith and Ev slide into "Fight Club," David Fincher's 1999 classic tale of mischief, mayhem, and soap. They talk about it all: Fincher's famous attention to detail, Brad Pitt's magnetism, toxic masculinity, the use of narration... everything. Keith compares Fincher to Michael Bay and Ev insults "Goodfellas." Trust us, you haven't seen an episode this good since grade school. Big thanks to our friend Richie for recommending this film! In this Viewer Recommendation episode, Keith and Ev discuss Alfonso Cuarón's 2006 tour-de-force "Children of Men," starring Clive Owen, Julianne Moore, and Michael Caine. How does this film fly so consistently under the radar? Where does this cinematography work rank on the list of all-time greats? Did Keith and Ev used to do that weird ping pong ball trick with each other? Lots of important questions here. Thanks to our friend Erik Freitas for the great recommendation!

26 Dec 2022 | THE BLUFF COUNCIL PODCAST - Ep. 66 - The Batman | 00:41:50
It's the debut episode of "Council Pop!" New show, new-ish style, new, complicated graphics for Keith to create in the editing process... It's a win for everyone! Join the boys as they discuss "The Batman," Matt Reeves' new film starring Robert Pattinson as Batman/Bruce Wayne, Zoë Kravitz as Catwoman, Paul Dano as The Riddler, Colin Farrell as The Penguin, and a talented supporting cast throughout, as... you know, other characters. It's dark! It's eerie and beautiful! It's... a really good film by Warner Bros.? IN 2022!? I know, we were shocked, too. Let's discuss! #TheBatman #TheBatmanReview
22 Dec 2022 | THE BLUFF COUNCIL PODCAST - Ep. 64 - Wet Hot American Summer | 00:43:24
When you look "cult classic" up in the dictionary, there's a picture of Elizabeth Banks with her face covered in BBQ sauce, and a picture of Molly Shannon sobbing, surrounded by children, and a picture of Bradley Cooper and Michael Ian Black interlocked in passionate embrace. It's "Wet Hot American Summer," the 2001 over-the-top comedy film from director David Wain. Perhaps predictably, Keith is a big fan. Perhaps predictably, Ev is a bit more lukewarm. Thus, The Bluff Council begins. Join us!
