If you are intrigued by The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills as well as charcuterie boards, well - DO WE EVER HAVE AN EPISODE FOR YOU. We also talk about our low-key Valentine celebrations ("celebrations" is a *strong* word, really), discuss the wonder of a harp-playing raccoon, and break down what we love about some Nivea cream recommended by our good friend Jamie Golden.

Finally, we share some exciting news (to us) (probably not to anyone else) about some inexpensive jeans *and* a sassy jumpsuit. We do hope you'll share in our joy.

As always, thanks for listening, y'all!

30 Mar 2014The Big Boo Cast, Episode 3301:05:21

Well, David walked in the room while I was editing this one, and after he listened for a few seconds, he said, "Saving the world - one podcast at a time."

I trust that you can detect his sarcasm.

It's the same ole same ole this go 'round; we talk about sleep habits and shoes and TV and skirts and Gap and travel and all sorts of other riveting topics.

Shockingly, we do not talk about our hair, nor do we talk about mascara. This might be a sign of the end times, but don't quote me on that.

Hope y'all enjoy it!

22 Mar 2019The Big Boo Cast, Episode 13500:59:50

So once again the sound for me (Sophie) is horrible, so I am picking up on the subtle hint that perhaps I need a new microphone. WHY ARE YOU SURPRISED. But actually I don't need a new microphone because sound is fine on ads, just not when Melanie and I record. I don't even understand. WHO AMONG THEE IS TECH-Y?

Subpar audio aside, we thoroughly enjoyed catching up in this episode. We talk about college baseball, Melanie's newfound career as a stencil artist, Alex's 16th birthday, and How Is It Possible That Our Kids Are About To Drive. We also discuss an exciting (for Mel) new skincare option and how we're both a little socially awkward right now.

All that to say: good times aplenty. Hope y'all enjoy!

21 Jul 2018The Big Boo Cast, Episode 11301:04:14

Our good friend Travis Cottrell is with us on this episode, and we have ourselves a blast. We talk about workout needs of extroverts vs. introverts, we hear about Travis' recent regional airline experience, and we answer a bunch of fun questions that people asked on Instagram.

Also, please excuse the many phone alerts / dings / beeps that occur in the first part of the episode. We didn't get our phones under control before we started to record, so it takes a few minutes for all three of us to SILENCIO LOS TELEFONOS. We trust this is the level of professionalism to which you've grown accustomed.

Enjoy, y'all!

22 May 2013The Big Boo Cast, Episode 2300:49:05

Well, here's our yearly podcast episode.

The topics, as always, are varied: college baseball, working out, shorts, phobias, skin care, and Taylor Swift.

Though not necessarily in that order.

21 Aug 2017The Big Boo Cast, Episode 8001:00:15

It's always a treat to have our friend Travis Cottrell on the podcast, and this episode is no exception. We cover a wide stretch of conversational ground: favorite football snacks, the wonder of an Amish donut, our ever-growing kids, current Bible study options, and, of course, our obsession with rose hip oil.

(That last one was more of a discussion between Melanie and me. But Travis was as patient as he could be when we talked about it.)

(Or maybe he was just distracted.)

We also reminisce about shampoos from the 70s. I would try to give you some context, but it's probably just easier if you listen for yourself. And no joke: Melanie must have taken her one-liner pill before we recorded; there are some Shankle Gems (I think we may have to trademark that phrase) (only not really) scattered throughout.

Enjoy, y'all!

30 Jan 2019The Big Boo Cast, Episode 13100:38:51

This is the second part of the conversation we started on episode 130, and I have to say that this part is really of no substance at all (but oh, did we have fun).

We talk about a new product Melanie loves, an old product Melanie loves again, and my recent descent into a YouTube rabbit hole. We also discuss the books we're working on and actually settle on a title for mine even though we can't say a whole lot about it. So there's some mild vague-ery - but there are also laughs aplenty. It's a shorter-than-usual episode, but hopefully it packs a punch.

Enjoy, y'all!

15 Sep 2016The Big Boo Cast, Episode 6400:45:50

Well, let's see.

Melanie is cooking ribs during this podcast, and a couple of times she has to take a podcast break to flip her ribs.

I don't know what more any of us could ask, really.

But we also talk about college football, pro football, the color of the Cowboys' football pants, pop-up ads, an allergy I recently discovered (it's an allergy I have - not an actual medical discovery), and cotton pants (good job, GAP).

This episode is a little shorter than usual, but we were in a time crunch. We're going to try to do a repeat podcast next week, so if you have any questions for us, just leave them in the comments.

Did I mention that Melanie cooked ribs?

We're talking staggering new levels of excitement.

(Show notes are on our blogs.)

25 Sep 2017The Big Boo Cast, Episode 8201:10:40

Well, the first thing I should probably mention is that we recorded this episode while we were having a thunderstorm in Birmingham, and Hazel was losing her fool mind over the weather. Just think of her barking as soothing background music.

The second thing I should probably mention is that we talk a LOT about college football this time around. It's just that time of year, y'all. So we break down the latest with Melanie's Aggies and my Bulldogs, we discuss Melanie's need for some football boundaries, and I break down my most recent trip to Starkville.

(Full disclosure: Melanie and I recorded this episode just a few days after Mississippi State's decisive victory over the LSU Tigers. It was a glorious time. Since then, however, the Bulldogs have experienced the heartache of a loss to the Georgia Bulldogs. Needless to say, we recorded a quick post-State/UGA follow-up segment to address this sad MSU turn of events, along with the outcome of the A&M/Arkansas game. Stay tuned at the end for that.)

We also talk about Homecoming dresses (because CAROLINE IS THAT OLD NOW, HOW DID THAT EVEN HAPPEN?), rose hip oil (who's surprised?), and TV. These are a few of our favorite things.

Hope y'all enjoy it!

14 Jun 2018The Big Boo Cast, Episode 10901:07:40

In what is no doubt the complete opposite of a surprise, we had some sound issues with this one. We still don't know exactly why. What we do know, though, is that I sound like a loud talker and Melanie sounds like a soft talker who is trying to subtly communicate to me that I need to PIPE DOWN. So thanks in advance for bearing with us; we'll do our best to get that worked out for next time.

As for what we talk about, well, there's a lot: college baseball (Mississippi State is headed to the College World Series!), a new show Melanie really likes, famous people we follow on Instagram, some new music I'm excited about, and a few new skincare / make-up finds.

So basically, you know, some of our favorite topics.

Hope y'all enjoy!

15 Dec 2017The Big Boo Cast, Episode 9001:08:24

Our good friend Travis Cottrell is with us on this episode of the podcast, and we talk about all manner of unrelated topics. We dig into some Christmas traditions, discuss our favorite Christmas music, break down the college football play-offs (along with our coaching changes), and ponder the deep well of teenage sarcasm that is currently full to overflowing in all of our homes.

Also, you'd better believe that Neil Diamond makes an appearance. Or two. Or three.

Be warned: Melanie, Travis, and I talk about so much stuff that you may never get through all the links. But in case you'd like to try, you can find most of what we mention below.

13 Jan 2014The Big Boo Cast, Episode 3200:56:29

We started this particular podcast with some unexpected technical issues, but somehow we managed to recover. I give all the credit to the Lord and the fancy new podcasting microphone that I got for Christmas.

(I'm not sure that there's anything that has ever cemented my FULL-ON NERD status like the fact that I am just as tickled as I can be that I got a new podcasting microphone for Christmas.)

(I told Melanie that it made me feel like I was Loretta Lynn in the recording studio back in the 1950s.)

This time around we talk about clothes, homework, TV, desks, and some other riveting topics. At the end of the podcast Melanie gets some very exciting news, and I'm fairly certain that I overreact. But I overreact when Ranch dressing goes on sale, so please know that my SURGE OF ENTHUSIASM is totally true to my character.

Enjoy, y'all!

28 Aug 2013The Big Boo Cast, Episode 2700:41:47

Well, Melanie and I decided to record this podcast on a Tuesday afternoon whim, and as always, we had no plan, no rhyme,  no reason. We did, however, have some thoughts about Justin Timberlake, John Mayer's new album (Ben Rector's, too), the Ben Affleck-as-Batman brouhaha, why I liked Argo, college football, and Candy Crush.

It's all very academic. SCHOLARLY, you might say.

30 Dec 2017The Big Boo Cast, Episode 9101:08:57

A couple of weeks ago Melanie and I realized that by the end of this year we would have recorded TWENTY TWO EPISODES of the podcast in 2017, and if you think that hasn't blown our minds just a little bit, then clearly you missed the part where it took us NINE WHOLE YEARS to record the previous 68. We realize that for actual podcasting professionals (or, you know, people who just take some time to plan) the 22 episode achievement might not be a big deal (or perhaps even mildly embarrassing because SLACKERS), but we prefer to channel Ramona Singer and say KUDOOZ TO US. Is this what victory feels like?

Anyway, on this episode we talk at length about our cooking-related ailments, our current viewing habits, our fascination with Meghan Markle, and our favorite moments from 2017. It was good times, y'all.

Enjoy, everbody!

Here's where you can get more info on the stuff / products / places we mention:

- Megaformer (Meghan Markle's favorite workout - allegedly)

- Meghan's and Kate's Christmas service ensembles

- The Crown on Netflix

- The Great British Baking Show (old seasons are on Netflix)

- Martha's vest

- Teddie Organics Rosehip Oil

- Church of the Small Things by our very own Big Mama

- Meghan Trainor - "No"

- Washington Post subscription

- Travis Cottrell - "O Praise Him with Doxology" (the perfect way to wrap up the year)

16 Jun 2016The Big Boo Cast, Episode 6000:58:40

In lo, this 60th episode of our little podcast, we cover a wide range of topics: beach life, skin care favorites, pet peeves, summer plans, and what preferences we have when it comes to speaking stuff.

We also talk about summer plans (or lack thereof), including my upcoming trip to NYC ("ALEXANDER HAMILTON - just you wait, just you wait"). I believe there's also a minute or two in there when we talk about summer memories of yore, including bare feet on hot pavement. SIMPLER TIMES.

If you'd like to see links and/or notes for this podcast, you can find them right here

Enjoy, y'all!

22 Dec 2013The Big Boo Cast, Episode 3100:53:08

Well, I would welcome you to our annual Christmas podcast - except I don't think Melanie and I have actually recorded a Christmas podcast in about five years. We are far too fond of flying by the seat of our collective pants to plan anything in advance, much less to commit to it on a yearly basis. We like to tell ourselves this is part of our charm, but it's actually probably a little annoying.

This time around we talk about a bunch of different stuff: Melanie's theory about Pinterest, Christmas with little ones (newsflash: our kids aren't really "little ones" anymore),  TV shows that make us paranoid, holiday treats, my ongoing eyelash issues (and Melanie's solution), and our observations about overly familiar customer service. So basically we just ramble, but since we recorded this one on December 21, VOILA: CHRISTMAS PODCAST.

Also, for some reason my Mississippi accent is real strong this time around. I watched Steel Magnolias the night before, and apparently it triggered some dormant speech patterns. I say this because there's a point when I pronounce "our" like "ire," so I hope you folks from other parts of the country don't require a translator.

Merry Christmas, y'all. So grateful for you!

06 May 2020The Big Boo Cast, Episode 18300:55:40

In this episode we get an update on how Melanie's face has fared  after she tried a NO JOKE exfoliation product. We also talk about a show we both loved watching, and I demonstrate some remarkable self-pity related to a recent calf injury. As one does, of course.

And if you're looking for some graduation gift ideas, we are here to serve. We share several ideas for guys and girls, and as always, we've never met a gift-giving opportunity we haven't enjoyed talking about.

Y'all take care. Hope you enjoy!

20 Apr 2016The Big Boo Cast, Episode 5901:10:12

We had to record this podcast in two installments, but by diggity we got 'er done. We spent the first installment marveling over Melanie's fancy new microphone, digging into my significant obsession with Hamilton, and then discussing the recent baseball match-up between Mississippi State and Texas A&M.

It's fair to say that the Aggies enjoyed some baseball dominance in Starkville.

In the second installment we talk about Hazel and Mabel, our summer Birkenstocks, my new favorite lipstick, and Melanie's dream curling iron.

So basically this is all the hard-hitting news you've come to expect from us.

Hope y'all enjoy it!

31 Oct 2019The Big Boo Cast, Episode 15800:54:21

So true story: we spend the first ten minutes of this episode talking about the raccoon that was in Melanie's chimney.

I feel like I may never get to write a sentence like that again.

Anyway, we talk about the raccoon, and we talk about Melanie and Caroline's recent trip to College Station. We also discuss the latest with my bathroom remodel, the latest with college football, and the latest with some coaches we have grown to admire over the years - complete with a Tender Hallmark Moment (TM) about Why Coaches Matter (and man oh man - do they ever matter).

Also, mark your calendars for our Christmas Gift Guide Episode the week of November 18th, and we'll have a special Christmas episode with our beloved Travis Cottrell on Patreon in early December.

Fun times ahoy, everyone. Hope you enjoy this episode!

25 Feb 2020The Big Boo Cast, Episode 17300:57:48

A few episodes ago I mentioned how much I had loved watching Garth Brooks' "The Road I'm On," and this past week Melanie watched it. I wouldn't say that we discuss it exhaustively in this episode, but we definitely circle back around to it a few times. That is because WE ADORE IT. We also talk about Melanie's new books (it's book launch week!), but we recorded before we knew that the foreword by Jen Hatmaker somehow didn't make it into the actual book, so you can rest assured we'll saddle up to that topic next week.

We also talk about a couple of books I've read and loved, what we're planning to read during Lent, and a new (to me) K-cup discovery. WHAT A TIME TO BE ALIVE.

Enjoy, y'all!

02 Jul 2015The Big Boo Cast, Episode 5001:00:37

This is our 50th episode, only I didn't even realize it until Alex mentioned it to me, and then I forgot to say anything to Melanie until about 2/3 of the way through the podcast.

So clearly we've planned an enormous celebration.

We did make a very impromptu (and somewhat unorganized) decision to do some special giveaways, though, and you'll find out how to enter if you listen to the podcast. You can enter on my blog and Melanie's blog; there will be four winners total.

And somehow, considering that this is our 50th podcast, it seems fitting that the content is absolutely all over the place. YOU SHOULD EXPECT NO LESS. We talk about Mabel and Piper's trip to the Pawderosa Ranch, my many hair-related insecurities, the wonder that is Apple Music, my Power Ballad Mix Tape playlist, our enthusiasm for Top 40 radio, and so much more.

Thanks so much for listening, y'all. And for being patient when we'd take a year-long break between podcasts. And for not being critical when the sound was terrible. And for consistently encouraging us like crazy where this silly little podcast is concerned. In its own unique way, it has been and continues to be a blast.

28 Nov 2019The Big Boo Cast, Episode 16200:59:04

Here's part two of our Christmas Gift Guide, and this round of gift suggestions is for women and men. Coming up with ideas for women was pretty easy, but when it came to presents for guys, I really tried to 1) think about what David and Alex might enjoy and 2) think like Perry and consider the life-giving value of effective illumination. I hope he'll be pleased.

You might be shocked to learn (eye roll) that there's some weird scratchy noise that appears from time to time in this episode, but we could not figure out what it was. Melanie wasn't in the bean bag chair, her hair was pulled back, and she wasn't wearing bracelets (there was a point when I was convinced the noise was bracelets). However, the up side is that her internet connection was flawless, so we'll take our victories where we can.

You can find all the links in the show notes below (there are affiliate links, just FYI), and we hope these ideas are helpful. We had the best time putting together these last two episodes, and now we're going to focus on preparing for our Thanksgiving festivities (or, as Melanie's family calls it, Shanksgiving). :-)

Happy Thanksgiving, y'all!

09 Feb 2019The Big Boo Cast, Episode 13200:59:48

We have such a treat for y'all in the first half of this episode: a visit with our dear friend Erin Moon, who regularly brightens our days on Instagram and on The Bible Binge podcast. Erin and I share an obsession related to one of our very favorite musicians, and it seemed like a good idea to have her on the podcast and hash that thing out for posterity.

The second half of this episode is a little bit of a catch-up for Melanie and me; we talk about some music I'm loving and a recipe from Melanie's friend Kim that has changed Alex Hudson's life forever. Melanie also shares her reactions to the Fyre documentary we talked about on the last episode, and she coins a new word that we are sure to hold close in our hearts forever.

Hope y'all enjoy!

Let's just get this out of the way: there are times when Melanie's internet is dicey on this episode. KEEP DOING YOU, AT&T.

But if you can stick with us during the our internet troubles, then you'll hear our thoughts on Pippa Middleton's wedding (Melanie is our resident royals expert), the madness that is May, and my upcoming trip to Kenya.

We also discuss shoe options for summertime, Southern Charm Savannah, and the challenges of writing a devotional book (which, by the way, were surprising to both of us).

14 Apr 2014The Big Boo Cast, Episode 3400:52:43

I just listened to this episode before I uploaded it, and doing that made me realize that Melanie and I had a guest co-host this week that we failed to mention: THE POLLEN. Oh my goodness. I cough, Alex coughs, I sniff, Alex coughs, I take sip after sip of Crystal Light to try to soothe my throat, and then Alex coughs some more. So basically the whole podcast is like waiting with a child in the sick room of a peditrician's office. I'm just as sorry as I can be about that, but the pine pollen is just about more than we can stand right now. At least I didn't resort to using Flonase or a Neti pot at any point in the proceedings.

As usual, we talk about many unrelated things: Melanie's new career as a mom DJ / choreographer, my weekend in Oklahoma, my quest for a new spring purse, Mel's fancy dinner this past Saturday night, my exciting MSU baseball-related achievement, the season premiere of Mad Men, and a bunch of other stuff that I can't remember. But by all means, if you'd like to shop with us as we look at purses, click on over to the Noonday bags page; we talk about these purses for a solid 10 minutes.

Hope y'all enjoy!

23 Jun 2018The Big Boo Cast, Episode 11000:54:29

A few days ago some of the folks on our Big Boo Facebook page were kind enough to leave comments with some questions / topics that they wanted us to discuss, so that is exactly what Melanie and I do on this episode. We picked seven to start with, and my goodness: WE HAVE SOME THOUGHTS.

I actually couldn't fit all of the answers into one episode (you'll hear the rest next week), but we cover a lot of territory when it comes to grief, friendships, writing, and whether or not we enjoy crafts (we'll take "NO" for $400, Alex). This episode is maybe a little extra personal, but we loved getting to talk about this stuff.

Hope y'all enjoy!

Here's where you can get more info on the stuff / products / places we mention:

"Old Friends" by Ben Rector (we don't mention it specifically - but it's fitting considering what we say about friendship)

- Melanie's friend Jen

- Sophie's mama

"Caroline's" shoe box Fiesta floats

- Carpool Karaoke with Paul McCartney (we don't talk about this at all, but it's so heartwarming and will totally brighten your day)

- Closing Song

Melanie's roof is being replaced in this particular podcast, but we didn't let it stop us. Well, we didn't let it stop us until it sounded like someone was about to fall through Melanie's ceiling. And at that point, we stopped.

So it's a little short, but it's a random as ever. Enjoy, y'all!

12 Dec 2019The Big Boo Cast, Episode 16400:56:31

It may not have been a banner football year for A&M and State, but that hasn't done much to diminish our collective BigBoo college football enthusiasm. Given that, you won't be surprised to hear us spend some time talking about last weekend's SEC Championship game as well as Ole Miss' recent head coaching hire. We realize that it might not be the expected reaction, but this Bulldog / Aggie combo is excited about Lane Kiffin's return to the SEC. I think you could even say that we are HERE FOR IT.

We also discuss what we love about Chipotle (yes. Chipotle.) along with our thoughts about cooked chicken. And if that weren't enough, Melanie has a new moisturizer to share with the group, not to mention that we have some general enthusiasm about the new season of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel as well as Nichole Nordeman's new Christmas album.

THIS IS ALL SO EXCITING.

Enjoy, everybody!

15 Oct 2020The Big Boo Cast, Episode 20601:08:48

This week was a real home run as far as our technical prowess, because something extra bizarre happened with my sound file the first time we recorded - so we had to re-record two days later.

We're just trying to stay on brand with 2020, apparently.

So what we have here is a barely-edited episode (which is why it's a little longer than normal) - just edited enough to put the ads in their appropriate places - and you'll have to trust that we did our best to stay enthusiastic even though what we would have really liked to do is quit. Look at our perseverance!

Enjoy, y'all. :-)

13 Aug 2013The Big Boo Cast, Episode 2600:57:02

Well, I'm afraid that we've hit an all-time podcasting low in terms of our topics. Because we discuss all manner of mundane matters. There's weather, feet, postpartum, the African dust storm (I had no idea this was even a thing), more weather, pajamas, college football - and that's not even the half of it. We even managed to work salads into the conversation.

I'm not gonna lie. If you make it all the way through this one, it's probably because you're a relative.

Nonetheless, we're just as tickled as we can be that we have recorded and lo, even posted our fourth podcast of the summer. This is surely some sort of record.

17 Sep 2020The Big Boo Cast, Episode 20201:04:41

If you listened to last week's episode, then you won't be surprised to learn that the first thing we address on this episode is WHAT IN THE WORLD HAPPENED WITH THE BOOTIES? It might well be the biggest cliffhanger in the history of our little podcast. Our own version of Who Shot JR?, only with shoes. And no oil fortune. And no guns. But other than that, IDENTICAL.

In addition to a booties update, we talk about foot problems, Perry's upcoming 50th birthday, books, and my new favorite socks. And of course we talk about high school football and college football because we sort of enjoy it. You may have picked up on that.

Thanks for listening, y'all!

22 Aug 2019The Big Boo Cast, Episode 15000:50:45

We didn't have what I would call a *hard* outline when we started recording this episode, but oh my goodness we had us some laughs. We talk about Caroline's first day of 11th grade and the fact that her school now has a coffee bar, we break down some of our thoughts about Southern Charm, and we get very tickled talking about Melanie's potential plans when it comes to cosmetic procedures.

We also discuss communication strategies with teenagers and some of our menu options now that our kids are back in school. You might notice that Melanie's hair brushes against the microphone a lot in this episode (we've since talked about it and secured a supply of hair ties for the next time we record), but all is forgiven because when we talk about skincare she makes up an entirely new word and uses it with authority.

This is all I could ever ask of my podcasting partner.

Please do enjoy.

Normally Melanie and I try to show some restraint during college football season, but this week, between the start of SEC football, Mike Leach's coaching debut with Mississippi State, and my Bulldogs winning in Baton Rouge, WE HAVE SO MUCH TO SAY. Thank you in advance for your patience with us during this very exciting time.

In addition to talking about football, football, and LO, MORE FOOTBALL, we discuss my day-o-fun at a student leadership retreat and five of Melanie's current favorites.

19 Nov 2017The Big Boo Cast, Episode 8601:00:37

So, full disclosure - we recorded this podcast episode over a week ago, but then I (Sophie) went out of town last weekend for speaking stuff and this past week was jam-packed and I just got around to editing and recording the sponsor stuff and etc. Better late than never, I guess. And for your sake it's probably better that you don't have to listen to my post- Alabama / Mississippi State heartbreak. What a game that was.

As far as this episode goes, we have A LOT OF THOUGHTS about November heat, social media, the anger that results from wearing Spanx (Melanie has a fantastic term for that), and college football. There's also some talk about a cat with a jar on its head.

Enjoy, y'all!

I am sad to tell you that Melanie's issues with chicken in general and thick chicken nuggets in particular continue, so we spend a good bit of time discussing her chicken-related options in this episode. We also talk about my family's recent trip to a show choir competition (it was glorious) as well as our excitement that college baseball is with us once again.

Then, as usual, we share a little bit of what we're watching and reading, and we settle a miscommunication re: Melanie's feelings about a tote bag I've been eyeing. If I sound like I was desperate for her approval, it's because, well, I was.

I'm sure you understand. :-)

This is our last regular episode of 2019 (still more goodness to come this Sunday over on Patreon, though), and man oh man do we have ourselves some laughs. From how much we love Lane Kiffin's Twitter to the motivational speeches that we give our kids to our rage when people back into parking places (THE NERVE, I TELL YOU), it is good times aplenty on episode 165.

We also do a little reflecting on this past decade (so many changes!), and I share a v.v. important mascara tip that our friend Marti in Charlotte was kind enough to pass along for the good of the group. Plus, Melanie has a Netflix recommendation. So basically it's a win all the way around, and MERRY CHRISTMAS, EVERY ONE.

Well, both of us recently watched "Miss Americana" - the Taylor Swift documentary on Netflix - and man-oh-man did we ever have some thoughts about it. We share about 278 of those thoughts in this episode. We also discuss some upcoming pop culture events we're excited about (to be clear, I didn't realize when we recorded that the Hamilton movie doesn't come out until 2021, so please know the realization that I have to wait OVER A YEAR has been borderline heartbreaking).

There are some beauty product developments as well - and news about what may well be the finest mascara we have ever tried. Yes. You read that correctly. THE BEST MASCARA WE HAVE EVER TRIED. Eyelash dreams do come true, everyone.

I think I can sum up this podcast nicely by telling you that we start off with a discussion about grackles and then move into a discussion about breakfast tacos. As you do.

We also talk about cooking, the Downton Abbey series finale, what's in style this spring, and how some part of our personalities rebels against rigid organizational systems.

There is nary a mention of mascara, our hair, or Amy Grant.

We will try to do better next time.

Well, you will not be surprised to learn that we talk a great deal - A GREAT DEAL - about college football in this episode. There's some accountability in terms of how one of us managed to go to Starkville this past weekend despite some seemingly overwhelming writing obligations, there's all manner of optimism since the Aggies and the Bulldogs combined to score over 100 points in their first games, and then there's the can't-deny-it reality that the SEC West is NO JOKE in 2018.

We also discuss books and shows and our upcoming trip to Chicago. Which reminds me: we even tell you how to win two free tickets to The Popcast Live Show (this Saturday, September 8th), but HURRY - you have to leave a comment on our podcast Facebook page by 10AM central on Thursday, September 6th in order to be in the drawing. I don't even know what to tell y'all about Episode 95, so how about some fun facts?

Number of times we thought we'd worked out a time to record it: approximately 14.

Number of times we actually recorded it: 2.

Number of times we were able to retrieve the files after we recorded: 1.

Number of times I wondered if we would ever complete Episode 95: at least 20.

Number of times teenagers' sports commitments forced us to re-schedule: 6.

Number of times Melanie and I cleared our throats when we recorded this episode: 784.

Number of times I edited out the sound of throat-clearing: 784.

All that to say: it was a long road. But in the end, we got 'er done. And we had a fine time talking about the Olympics and Black Panther and Valentine's Day and why we all need to relax about the number of children people do or don't have.

Hope y'all enjoy!

Melanie has a bit of a cold on this episode, which means you may start to wonder when I started recording a podcast with the ghost of Barry White. OH, I KID. And listen - are we all ever glad that Melanie toughed it out and recorded the episode despite her upper respiratory challenges, because she comes in strong with an update on 1) the raccoons that live next door to her and 2) the latest Royal Family news. We are in her debt.

We also discuss a couple of things we've cooked (and enjoyed) lately, and we share our thoughts about Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston. Just like when we were young and full of collagen and it was 2002.

27 Jan 2015The Big Boo Cast, Episode 4300:51:41

I will go ahead and tell you that this particular podcast has a special place in my heart.

And I don't normally say that sort of thing.

But here's why. When we started recording, Melanie and I just talked about our usual favorite topics: kids, dogs, writing, supper ideas, and decorative woes. Surprisingly, we did not talk about mascara, but that's probably because we just ran out of time.

Anyway, about halfway into the podcast, our friend Travis joined us. He was driving home after a night of interviewing folks backstage at the CCM "United" webcast to celebrate 40 years of contemporary Christian music. Travis was still beside himself about the whole thing, and it was so fun to hear him talk about the artists who have had such a big influence on his career and calling. Plus, Amy Grant was there, so you know we had to talk about that (OF COURSE WE DID).

So yes, we still laugh in this podcast, and there are couple of times when Melanie and Travis get me so tickled that I can't breathe very well. But there's also a little bit of tender, and it makes me happy.

Thanks for listening, y'all.

03 Feb 2018The Big Boo Cast, Episode 9401:06:03

Maybe the most important aspect of this episode is that Melanie has some very exciting news about her eyelashes. And honestly, why would any of us care about any other topic when clearly there have been some VERY IMPORTANT eyelash developments since the last episode?

We do, however, talk about a bunch of stuff before we get to the eyelashes. We answer some of your questions about marriage and parenting (keep in mind that the verdict is still out on whether we have the foggiest idea what we're talking about re: parenting), and we also dig into a little discussion about body image (FOR SURE a first for us). Then we segue' into, you know, eyelashes and hair and the fact that one of us has paralyzing fear of repetitive circles. AS YOU DO.

01 Sep 2014The Big Boo Cast, Episode 3800:53:09

Considering that this is our first podcast of the 2014 college football season, it's really no wonder that we spend a chunk of time talking about, well, college football.

However, it might be a wonder that we manage to talk about anything else. Sure enough, though, we covered Melanie's bathroom remodel, the fact that I finally fnished my book, the latest developments with our eyelashes, the joys of 40-something eyesight, and some recent beauty product finds.

So basically we're solving all the world's most important problems.

Enjoy, y'all!

13 May 2018The Big Boo Cast, Episode 10400:53:33

We spend considerable time on this episode breaking down all the fun we had at The Popcast Live! Show (Melanie) and The Happy Hour Live (Sophie), and then somehow we manage to segue into a discussion about McDonald's chicken options, a topic that we feel certain we have never before covered.

We also (apparently) have A LOT OF THOUGHTS about this season of Southern Charm. So whether you watch or not, you're going to get yourself a little bit of a Southern Charm education.

And even if reality television isn't your thing, never fear, because this is the episode where Melanie recounts a magical encounter she once had with a McGriddle, and let me just assure you that we'll all be better for it.

This week I share a terrible (okay - not really terrible - just exasperating) thing that happened when I had to go to Walmart and Target on the same day, and Melanie analyzes the Aggies' College Football Playoff chances. We also have a discussion about Sierra Mist Cranberry Splash, only I call it Sierra Mist Cranberry Blast, and clearly I have reached a point in my life where I just make up my own names for familiar products.

And as a public service to readers everywhere, Melanie makes some book suggestions that feature war / espionage as a backdrop for brave actions by gritty heroines, and I share my Five Favorites. Only I forgot to include the Five Favorites background music. I hope you can forgive me.

03 Nov 2017The Big Boo Cast, Episode 8501:00:33

This time around we discuss the Mississippi State / A&M game, the Astros' win in the World Series, and the glory of a redemptive sports moment.

(For example.)

(This is the GIF Melanie texted Sophie during the State / A&M game.)

(This is the GIF Melanie tweeted after the Astros' victory.)

(You can see the contrast.)

We also talk Sol Dance (edited to add: pretty sure that I said Selena Gomez instead of Demi Lovato, but that is understandable since I am 104 and had also just read news that Selena and the Biebs are back together), the reality of life with our high-maintenance dogs, and Sophie's simmering jealousy about the fact that Melanie has calves that will fit into any boot. There might also be about ten minutes where we look at the Free People website and talk about the stuff that we like.

So. You know. Super important, deeply serious things.

Enjoy, y'all!

Here's where you can get more info on the stuff / products / places we mention:

- Carlos Correa's post-game proposal

- Melanie and Sophie at Houston's First Baptist The Gift of Christmas: A Women's Gathering on November 30th

- Gap striped sleep leggings - Melanie's fall and winter ministry

- Sam Edelman "Camellia" boots - a boot unicorn

28 Feb 2019The Big Boo Cast, Episode 13401:01:58

Full disclosure: the sound isn't great on this episode - it cuts in and out a lot and who could possibly know why because we do everything the same way every single time but for some reason this time I (Sophie) sound like a gravelly-voiced DJ from the 70s and WHATEVER, STUPID MICROPHONE - but despite the subpar sound, we had ourselves some fun. We discuss our deep lack of understanding re: taxes, we chronicle all the reasons we aren't cooking, and we discuss a couple of things we're really loving on Netflix.

Melanie also outlines some new decorative goals for Caroline's room, and we discuss our favorite means of social media procrastination when we're writing as well as our suggestions for better, more meaningful social media experiences. The sarcasm meter is running HIGH, y'all.

Enjoy, everybody!

03 Apr 2017The Big Boo Cast, Episode 7401:14:30

Well, we start off recounting some difficult times we've experienced in excruciatingly hot conditions. Our passion about this topic will surprise approximately no one. But then, in an unlikely turn, we discuss exercise: power walking, Melanie's first yoga class, and a new fitness class that involves a mini tramp (Melanie may try it, so STAY TUNED).

We go on to share our thoughts about Costco, vacations, shorts, along with what we've been watching and reading. And naturally there's a lengthy discussion about all the skin care knowledge (and tips!) Melanie gleaned on her recent video shoot. You might want to grab a pencil.

Finally, we talk a good bit about the NCAA women's basketball tournament because BULLDOGS.

18 Jun 2020The Big Boo Cast, Episode 18901:03:06

When we start this episode, I'm maybe not in my best frame of mind on book release eve (Stand All the Way Up came out this past Tuesday). But then Melanie compares my writing to mashed potatoes, and then we talk about Jessica Simpson's memoir, Open Book, and let me tell you: my frown turned upside down.

DO NOT SLEEP ON JESSICA'S WRITING ABILITY, friends.

For the rest of the episode we do a Q&A, and this, this is one of our very favorite things. We didn't make much of a dent in the questions y'all submitted via IG, but we had a blast talking about Melanie's skin care regimen and my green ring and why we will likely never have a YouTube channel, among other things.

Enjoy, y'all!

09 Jan 2018The Big Boo Cast, Episode 9201:08:15

Well, it's our first episode of 2018, and true to form, we're all over the place. We analyze Hazel's behavior during Christmas break, we marvel at the fact that Melanie is smitten with a real-live musical (The Greatest Showman), and we decide we like Bruno Mars' new single more than Justin Timberlake's. As you do.

We also talk college football (WHO IS SURPRISED) and compare Melanie's commitment to information about the Royal Family to my commitment to information that I find on Twitter (we'll have to explain that in greater detail on another podcast, but suffice it to say that I love me some current events). Melanie also has a new hair product to share with us, and I totally ordered said product while we were recording because this, THIS IS WHAT I DO.

Enjoy, everybody!

25 Jun 2020The Big Boo Cast, Episode 19000:55:53

This episode is a real hodge-podge, which might well be our very favorite kind. We talk about corn and laundry detergent and hair ties and Melanie's pre-Hamilton television concerns.

We also discuss a guasha stone tutorial Melanie recently watched as well as how tired we are of cooking. Because PANDEMIC. And we spend some time breaking it on down in terms of some big ole takeaways from Somebody Feed Phil

Enjoy, y'all!

05 Dec 2019The Big Boo Cast, Episode 16300:57:01

Well, as you might imagine, we spend some time on this episode talking about this past weekend's Egg Bowl, which was as classic a State / Ole Miss match-up as I've ever seen. We also discuss the Iron Bowl, and you'd better believe we talk about the folks who found themselves imprisoned by the hedges at Jordan-Hare Stadium because that whole thing was nothing but a treasure.

There's more to this episode than college football, though. We also talk about movies and mascara (people surprised by this = 0 people). Plus, Melanie makes a case for why we all need to be adding eyelash serums to our beauty routines. I will commit to pray about it.

In this episode there is a very strange crackle-y noise that occurs randomly but consistently, and we have no idea what it is. I suggested to Melanie at one point that it was castanets, but clearly I was being sarcastic because as you all know we only play our castanets during the summer months.

I don't even know what that means.

Anyway, if you can will yourself to hang in there during all the clicking / crackling, you'll hear us talk about the Mississippi State / A&M game, one of my most confident parenting moments, and Melanie's new beauty routine that involves cloth surgical tape.

Y'all have no idea. It DELIGHTS me.

19 Apr 2019The Big Boo Cast, Episode 13800:59:10

A few days ago we asked the good people of Instagram if anyone had questions for us. And as it turned out, there were questions APLENTY. We spend the bulk of this episode digging into six or seven of those questions, which means we dig into the story of how we met, the reason only one of us records our ads, and the restaurants we love the mostest in Birmingham and San Antonio (also known as the cities where we live).

We also talk about what Melanie means (exactly) when she references "the ranch," and we tackle the question we get asked almost more than any other (besides how we met): what about that one-child situation? We laugh a lot, we answer lo, even more questions, and we recap (well, Mel does, at least) the latest with Britney Spears. Just as you might expect.

As always, please do enjoy.

19 Dec 2015The Big Boo Cast, Episode 5601:08:40

Well, welcome to our Christmas hodgepodge.

In this episode Melanie and I talk about Christmas preparations, Christmas menus, the A&M quarterback situation, my favorite way to cook steaks, Mel's upcoming trip to the AT&T store, a couple of apps that I'm enjoying, writing software, and our favorite Christmas songs.

We also talk briefly about the rumor that Courteney Cox and Matthew Perry are ALLEGEDLY dating in real life.

This could change everything, y'all.

I'm not doing any links this time because we don't really talk about any products or websites or anything like that. Remember, the word for the day was "hodgepodge;" this episode really is a little bit of everything and a whole lot of nothing. However, it's over an hour of nothing, so hopefully that counts for something.

See what I did there?

Well, it hardly seems possible, but lo, it is time for our annual Big Boo Holiday Gift Guide. It is understandable if you feel the need to applaud and perhaps even whistle.

11 Sep 2017The Big Boo Cast, Episode 8101:02:16

Well, first of all, we recorded this episode with Melanie talking on her phone because her microphone was in the guest room where P was napping. Sure, we could have waited until another day so that the sound quality was better, but when you've only recorded 80 podcasts over the last 10 years, you take the recording opportunities when they present themselves - no need to wait for pesky sound equipment.

Second, we answer several of your questions in this podcast, including how we navigate arguments in our marriages and whether watching This Is Us is worth it (short answer: YES). We also discuss fall fashion, disagree about whether booties have run their course, and marvel at our current state of skin care contentment.

Finally, we talk about workout pants and granola because, well, of course.

03 Sep 2020The Big Boo Cast, Episode 20001:01:59

Well, it only took us thirteen years, but here we are at episode 200. Won't He do it? On average we have cranked out 15.38 episodes a year since 2007, and if you're thinking that doesn't seem like a lot, you're exactly right. This might be a good time to point you in the direction of 2010 and 2012, when we managed to record one whole episode each year. Bless it.

Anyway, our 200th episode is pretty much just like all the other episodes (this feels right, doesn't it?). We talk about Melanie's weekend in College Station and my thoughts about The Heir Affair (I finally finished reading it) and five things Melanie has really enjoyed this past week. We also discuss my search for a new pair of sneakers and how Melanie's guidance on this particular issue has been invaluable (that is to say: I HAVE FOUND A WINNER).

Finally, keep your eyes on our Instagram accounts this week - because we have a couple of fun giveaways planned to celebrate the big 200. We can't thank you enough for being such loyal listeners. You have supported and encouraged us (lo, even in 2010 and 2012), and we are deeply grateful that you make time to listen every week.

17 Oct 2013The Big Boo Cast, Episode 2900:42:42

This time around we talk about rugs (seriously. rugs), old youth group skits, air travel, why we're at the mercy of dentists, teacher conferences, movies (and how Gravity seems to be a really big deal), pasta (and also cheese), our deep, heartfelt enthusiasm for Les Miles, and who knows what else.

So, to sum up: we're all over the place. But what else is new?

13 Nov 2018The Big Boo Cast, Episode 12301:00:05

It took us three tries to get this episode going; we had a little recording trouble with the site we normally use, so then we had to switch over to Skype and blah blah blah we're the Bad News Bears of podcasting. Hi, welcome to the podcast, now watch us get hit in the chest by a fly ball. Or maybe a microphone.

Eventually, though, we found us a work-around, and we settled in for a nice, long chat about all manner of things: the State / Bama game, Melanie's recent trip to Marshall, Texas, upcoming speaking stuff, and an update on the Camellia boots. We also discuss the struggle of my current no-shopping resolution and a few things that have inspired the fire out of me lately.

And finally, we break down our friend Jamie Golden's recent skincare product recommendations that she shared on Instagram. It's safe to say that she shared what most would consider a wealth of knowledge, and we are grateful.

20 Dec 2016The Big Boo Cast, Episode 6800:51:11

Earlier today Melanie and I decided to try to record a podcast, and lo and behold, our schedules cooperated. Then, on a whim, I texted our good friend Travis Cottrell to see if he could join us, and when he said that he could, I'm pretty sure that I heard some angels sing.

Or maybe that was just Hazel barking at the UPS driver. But regardless, it was a moment.

So. We discuss our thoughts about conveying tone in texts, the latest on Melanie's kitchen (complete with a coffee bar update), and then we cover a wide range of ground with Travis, including our favorite moments of 2016.

Also, in keeping with the theme of our delivery-heavy holiday season, Hazel barks a good bit. I'm just as sorry as I can be about that.

Enjoy, y'all!

30 Jun 2019The Big Boo Cast, Episode 14400:57:52

Our schedules haven't been super cooperative this week (painters! dogs! World Cup soccer!), so we were delighted to finally get to play a little podcast catch-up. We talk about the joys of car insurance costs for teenagers, the inspirational qualities of a Kardashian's refrigerator, our "Sunrise, Sunset" feelings about the pool, and our annoying ability to ignore problems we'd rather not address and/or solve.

We also discuss a clothing consignment option that has been a fantastic new discovery, and I discuss that in what is certainly far too much detail. As I tend to do.

Hope y'all enjoy!

30 Jul 2020The Big Boo Cast, Episode 19500:51:38

If you've been listening to the podcast pretty regularly the last couple of months, then you have heard Melanie and me mention the Netflix series Somebody Feed Phil over and over again. Melanie started watching (after Karen Howell recommended it, if memory serves), and then I started watching, and here we are, roughly six weeks later, both certifiably obsessed with it. Because it is FANTASTIC.

So you can imagine how delighted we are to tell you that, in one of the most unexpected occurrences in lo, all of our podcasting years, Phil Rosenthal from Somebody Feed Phil is our guest on this episode.

Sometimes life comes at you fast, my friends.

You'll hear the story of how all of this came to be at the beginning of the episode, and then for the rest of the episode you'll hear Phil be super funny and wise and inspiring. It was such a joy to talk with him, and it was also confirmation that 1) we cannot wait to travel again and 2) Phil really is our Quarantine All-Star.

Next week we'll be back with our usual shenanigans, and it'll just be Melanie and me again. Unless Melanie gets in touch with Jimbo Fisher - and in which case, all bets are off.

Enjoy, y'all!

08 Aug 2017The Big Boo Cast, Episode 7901:22:16

I think it was last summer when Melanie and I first talked about Last Chance U. We both binge-watched season one of the Netflix series, and in addition to discussing it on the podcast, there were several times when we talked on the phone about it because we were so fascinated by a certain player or could not believe how someone reacted. Then, in episode 78 I mentioned that I'd watched season 2 and found it just as magical as season 1 (though, as I have often pointed out, the language is terrible).

Anyway. All that to say: you can imagine our delight when Brittany Wagner, the academic counselor on LCU, agreed to be our special guest on episode 79.

It was THE MOST FUN.

So, in this episode, Melanie and I talk to Brittany about football and clothes and beauty products. (I should mention that I make a critical error and identify Mississippi State's season where they were ranked #1 as the 2015 season...but it was 2014...so I beg a thousand pardons.) We also hear about some of the players she'll be watching play D-1 this fall - and how her new career adventure got started (it's such a neat story). After Melanie and I finish our conversation with Brittany, we launch into a discussion about music, what we're cooking, and a whole host of unrelated items.

In other words: business as usual.

Here's where you can get more info on the stuff / products / places we mention:

Well, I can pretty much sum up this episode in two words: SEC football.

Oh, we talk about a few other things - dresses, booties (THE SHOES), corduroys, our new books - but mostly we talk about SEC football. And the SEC coaches' wives show on SEC Network. And the most miniscule details contained within the coaches' wives show because apparently I am a little obsessed.

Also, Melanie's t-shirt kept rubbing aganist the chair where she was sitting, and I may have mentioned it once or four times. But it's a lot of football, a lot of laughing, and a little bit of comforting Melanie because OH, AGGIES. Her hopes were so high.

Enjoy, y'all!

05 Oct 2017The Big Boo Cast, Episode 8301:08:26

It's been an exciting few days here at The Big Boo Cast because Melanie's fantastic new book, Church of the Small Things, released this past Tuesday. Yay, Melanie! Yay, everyone who gets to read it!

So you might not believe it, but on this particular episode we actually stick with a theme and talk about some of our very favorite small things. I went sort of sentimental and nostalgic with my list, and Melanie went sort of practical with hers, and the result is that somewhere in the overlap of our lists, we found a way to talk about some topics that we adore (specifically: comfy clothes, our latest obsessions, the best parts of friendship, and exciting new snack options).

We had the best time recording our very special Church of the Small Things episode - hope you enjoy it!

As you (might) know, I'm working with a different computer these days, and somewhere in this new-to-me version of Garage Band (which is what I use to edit) I have somehow changed myself to a setting that is likely called "DJ From The 1970s." Melanie sounds quite normal, but I have an echo that will take you straight to the disco, and I have no idea how to fix it. I just know that it makes me sound like I recorded my part of the episode in a tiled bathroom. WELCOME TO EXCELLENCE, everyone.

Despite the reverb, though, we plow our way through some topics. We talk about the heat (what? you're surprised?), we talk about SEC football, we talk about recent annoyances, and we delve into some strong feelings that we didn't even know we had.

Please do enjoy.

If you're in need of a little superficial to kick off your summer, this is the episode for you. We talk about nail polish, our nail-related frustrations, our favorite summer shoes, and all the reasons why we're embracing the caftan for summer 2018.

We also discuss the fact that, in all of our Enneagram 9-ness, we are not ever concerned with any details at any point in time unless we're talking about emotions. Because in that case we are HERE FOR ALL OF IT.

Hope y'all enjoy!

31 May 2017The Big Boo Cast, Episode 7600:51:53

On this episode we discuss my almost-here trip to Kenya, what I refer to as Melanie's enthusiastic opposition to khaki, and recent events at the SEC Baseball Tournament.

Recent events may or may not have involved me approaching someone I believed to be a This Is Us cast member.

Basically there's a lot of talk about sports - college baseball in particular - a lot of laughs, and a lot of theories about why I might have felt so compelled to approach the alleged celebrity.

Good times, people. We hope you enjoy.

28 Jan 2017The Big Boo Cast, Episode 7101:03:24

Well, the big news at the beginning of this podcast is that Melanie is snack mom for Caroline's soccer team, so we have a lengthy conversation about budgeting and price awareness and our limitations as household managers. We also spend some time talking about Melanie's feelings about chicken that's already off the bone, salsas we enjoy, goals for TV watching, and some exciting new cosmetic finds.

There's also a considerable amount of discussion about our optimal lighting and how maybe we're facing some skincare issues that make-up can't fix.

We also talk about why we can't talk about some stuff related to some writing stuff (and other assorted vagueries). But other than that it's all very specific.

We surely do hope you enjoy it.

23 Dec 2014The Big Boo Cast, Episode 4100:57:38

Two things right off the bat:

1. We're so happy that our good friend Travis Cottrell (aka FryDaddy) is with us on this episode of the podcast. It's been way too long. I would love to tell you that we've been ironing out the details for months, but the fact of the matter is that we sort of pulled it all together about 9 o'clock Sunday night (please remember that this is nothing if not a fly-by-the-seat-of-our-pants operation). But oh my goodness - it is always the most fun to talk and laugh with Travis. Yay.

2. When I was editing I became aware of an issue we had the last time we recorded a three-person podcast - and that is that my microphone sounds way louder than everybody else. So please know that it was never my intention to scream at you.

Other than that, we cover all manner of topics: what we're cooking this Christmas, the music of Bruno Mars (we were specifically talking about "Uptown Funk," but I accidentally cut out the part where I said the name of the song), everything we adore about Jimmy Fallon, the wonder that is Amy Grant (seriously - this comes up in EVERY SINGLE PODCAST), our Christmas plans, the holiday music of Neil Diamond, and a whole bunch of other stuff.

Hope y'all enjoy it - and Merry Christmas, everybody!

Well, we recognize that there's a lot going on this week (#election2020), so we do our best to PROVIDE SOME DISTRACTIONS. We talk about the storm that hit Birmingham last week, some exciting news in Melanie's family, and our unexpectedly reflective thoughts about 2020 in general and quarantine in particular.

We also discuss five of my current favorite things as well as the new devotional book I'm using in the mornings. Plus, we have a conversation about college football because DO YOU KNOW US AT ALL? :-)

09 Jun 2011The Big Boo Cast, Episode 1900:45:51

Melanie has a new modem.

And we are BACK IN BUSINESS.

As always, we hope that you enjoy all our rambling about nothing (Bachelorette, Christian radio, Friday Night Lights, hypochondria, trying to teach our kids the value of a dollar, etc.).

And please excuse the animal growls that will assault your ears out of nowhere about 30 minutes into the festivities. I was having a little editing issue, but I finally gave up on fixing it and just inserted some growling sounds. It's just like they do on all those fancy national radio shows. Only THEY WOULD NEVER.

Have a great day, everybody!

03 Jan 2017The Big Boo Cast, Episode 6900:59:51

Well, it's the first podcast of 2017 for Melanie and me, and our discussion seems to focus on several people that we really don't know even a little bit: Mariah Carey (not to mention her affection for a bodysuit), Emma Stone, Ryan Gosling, Queen Elizabeth, and Meghan Markle, to name a few.

There is a considerable amount of La La Land-related raving / fangirling. We also spend a lot of time talking about television - one of our very favorite topics - and then we reflect a little bit on 2016 and look forward to an awesome 2017.

All in all, a good time was had by all. Or at least the two of us. And we certainly hope it's a good time for you, too.

24 Oct 2019The Big Boo Cast, Episode 15700:53:52

In this episode we talk way more about high school football than college (no joke: this past Friday night was the most exciting high school football game of my adult life), and I'm so happy that we were able to actually have a podcast conversation about high school football, because that means Melanie's internet connection is working again. May the Lord be praised.

We also talk about some stuff that has happened on the internets over the course of the last week, the problem with the countertop on Melanie's island, Melanie's recent test drive of a hydro-facial, and some make-up that we have recently tried and enjoyed.

Enjoy, y'all!

On this episode of the podcast we talk extensively about Southern Charm and caftans. AS YOU DO.

We also chronicle some of our current, um, hormone-adjacent frustrations, recap what's happened for our teams so far in the college baseball post-season, and discuss some of our summer reading plans. Plus, Melanie brings us all up-to-speed on some highlights from The Bachelorette - and in doing so improves the quality of all our lives.

05 Nov 2015The Big Boo Cast, Episode 5500:53:52

Y'all, I don't even know.

This is a whole conversation about Melanie going to look at a tunic and then deciding to focus on foundational garments - all of which leads, quite frankly, to a LOT of talk about underwear.

We also have some thoughts about football and skincare. And then we talked a lot about my eyelashes because what could possibly be more riveting than that.

Also, I think that Melanie may have a career as a Revitalash consultant, so we may need to break down that particular topic at a later point in time.

Hope y'all enjoy it!

30 Aug 2015The Big Boo Cast, Episode 5301:00:17

Well, we hit the ground running in this podcast, and while you might initially think we've detoured into techy territory, we find our way back to our normal podcast pastures: fashion (specifically, we talk A LOT about jeans and booties), make-up, college football, and tailgating foods that we're planning to make at home for next week's game day.

And if all that weren't enough, Melanie's iTunes goes rogue a couple of different times during the podcast and causes all sorts of tomfoolery and also shenanigans.

Hope y'all enjoy it!

12 Nov 2020The Big Boo Cast, Episode 21001:01:50

This week Melanie and I dig into some areas of personal dysfunction - practical things in our lives where we have largely operated as if we had no choice but to participate in poorly functioning systems (that sounds really serious, but I can assure that our discussion is not). We also spend some time celebrating the #5 Texas A&M Fightin' Aggies before we jump into the main focus of this episode: our 2020 Holiday Gift Guide, this week with gift ideas for teenage girls and guys.

All that to say: it's links aplenty in this week's show notes, and we hope that some of our gift suggestions will make your life a little easier this year. Next week we'll talk through our gift ideas for women and men, so GIDDY UP, everybody.

23 Sep 2016The Big Boo Cast, Episode 6501:03:02

So Melanie and I were on the Skype a little earlier than normal for this particular episode, and before we started recording I was somewhat concerned because Melanie could not stop yawning (to be fair, she was completely un-caffeinated at the time). However, I have to say that she pulled through like a non-yawning champ, so KUDOS TO HER.

For the first 30-ish minutes it's podcast business as usual; we answer a few questions from y'all and talk about SEC Nation and why I love my hair dryer and how we don't want to wish the days away. And then, in the last half hour, Beth Moore joins us, and if that doesn't put a little pep in your podcasting step, then I don't know what will.

It was seriously one of our all-time favorite days - a total blast. We hope you get a kick out of it, too.

25 Apr 2019The Big Boo Cast, Episode 13901:06:09

We kick off this episode talking about pillows (yes. pillows.), then hear about Melanie and P's recent weekend of attending polo matches. AS YOU DO.

We also talk about one of my favorite nights of watching lacrosse and speculate about what it might be like when our kids graduate and we don't have the sports any more. Our conclusion is that we need to prepare ourselves for all the sadness.

Finally, we talk to our friend Lincee Ray about her new book that comes out April 30th - and we spend a significant amount of time talking about the ways we used to fold our notes in high school. It's a lost art, everyone.

Hope you enjoy!

Now that I think about it, it might have been a good idea to call this episode WELL WE HAVE WATCHED SOME THINGS. We talk about Broadway shows and TV shows and why I might have watched the recent two-part Garth Brooks Biography special four-ish times. Plus, Melanie has some very strong feelings indeed about Marriage Story - and we both have very strong feelings about Jennifer Aniston's wardrobe in The Morning Show.

We also discuss a game we have both been obsessively playing on our phones - and we share some recent beauty favorites, too. So basically it's a fine time indeed on ye olde podcast.

02 Mar 2017The Big Boo Cast, Episode 7300:55:55

As you might expect, we spend some time in this podcast recapping Melanie's recent visit to Birmingham, and we talk at length about our visit to SEC Headquarters. I don't think it's overstating it to say that it was a life highlight.

We also talk about the Oscars, the ageless wonder of Halle Berry, texting etiquette, a few favorite podcasts, and the great mystery of why none of the old SEC Wives episodes are online.

As seems to always be the case recently, we have a big discussion about This Is Us and why we all seem to want to feel emotion that deeply week after week. Plus, somewhere in the middle of all that, Melanie lays down a hashtag that's going to catch on like wildfire. Or 🔥, if you will.

Finally, we break down some of the finer points of #oldlove - and how that might affect, say, the way your husband gets to the hospital the morning of his knee surgery. Hypothetically.

22 May 2011The Big Boo Cast, Episode 1800:53:28

Oh, listen.

We have to be the most reliably unreliable podcasters ever.

But we're in the process of working out some ongoing technical ISH-AHS, and it seemed like now was as good a time as ever to jump back on the podcast bandwagon.

Who knows? Maybe we'll actually crank out two podcasts this year.

It's good to have a goal.

26 Jan 2019The Big Boo Cast, Episode 13000:48:34

Well, as we often do, we spend a lot of time in this episode talking about our recent experiences in the wild and also the nature.

Okay. So it's not necessarily our norm. But we definitely discuss our somewhat out-of-the-ordinary weekend excursions. We also talk about some things we've watched and liked, some pants with which I am SMITTEN, and so very, very, very many sneakers - sneakers we like, sneakers we think we might like, and sneakers we appreciate though we would not wear them.

You can't even imagine how riveting it is. :-)

10 Jan 2019The Big Boo Cast, Episode 12901:04:28

It's our first episode of 2019, and in it we certainly enjoy our fair share of pontificating: about age, about Christmas traditions (CAREFUL IF YOUR SMALL CHILDREN ARE LISTENING), about Melanie's exciting new ice option, and about the National Championship game.

We also talk about Melanie's repeat viewing of Friday Night Lights, hear her reaction to Tidying Up, and dig into ALL MY MANY THOUGHTS about Surviving R. Kelly (seriously - if talking about trauma is difficult for you, you'll want to skip this part of the episode). Finally, we come back around to some sunshine and break down a few of the reasons we loved (loved!) Mary Poppins Returns.

So. There's some silly stuff. There's some serious stuff. And there's a whole lot of in between.

Enjoy, y'all - and happy 2019!

In this week's episode we talk about the return of summertime heat to San Antonio (you can easily imagine Melanie's joy) as well as our shared delight at a recent GMA Deal of the Day. We also discuss the latest developments in our television-watching careers, and we may spend a significant amount of time recapping the first episode of the new season of The Real Housewives of New York.

All I'm saying is that it brought us some happiness.

And if that weren't enough (well, I mean, it really wasn't enough, but just go with me on the figure of speech), we provide updates on the current state of our pandemic hair - along with some possible solutions because ROOTS.

28 Apr 2020The Big Boo Cast, Episode 18201:00:49

It's a big week in the life of our little podcast, primarily because on this particular episode Melanie commits to trying a recipe that will require her to deal with raw chicken.

Oh, HE WILL DO IT.

We also talk about our latest quarantine-ish developments (that is to say: what we've watched on TV / pondered in the stillness of our hearts), and we share some Mother's Day gift ideas. This might be helpful to you if 1) you have no idea what to buy your mom and/or mother-in-law or 2) you need to print out a list for your people, along with maybe a subtle note that HERE IS WHAT YOU TURKEYS CAN PURCHASE FOR ME IN ORDER TO SHOW YOUR APPRECIATION.

However you feel like you should address that is totally up to you.

Hope y'all enjoy!
