Houston is a speaker, author, and kindness advocate who has spoken at over 600 schools or events internationally. In 2016, he co-founded CharacterStrong - curriculum and training that help teach social and emotional skills. To date, they have worked with over 2500 schools globally serving over 2 million students. In 2019, his face was featured on Lays BBQ chip bags as someone who helps "spread smiles.” In 2020, his first book, Deep Kindness (Simon & Schuster, Tiller Press) was released. Dr. Joseph Jones is the Superintendent in the New Castle County Vocational-Technical School District. Susie Harder, M.A., CCC-SLP is an experienced clinician who devotes much of her passion to working with children, teens, and adults who stutter. She works in private practice and the school setting to help support children who stutter, trains speech-language pathologists to work more effectively with students who stutter, provides various fluency trainings to school districts across the state, and is also directing the Junior Authors Program platform. Susie grew up in Central California and completed her Bachelor’s Degree at Fresno State. She earned her Master’s Degree at Northwestern University, rated #2 in the nation for their program. While there, she met Kristin Chmela, M.A., CCC-SLP, BCS-F, an internationally recognized fluency specialist who had a true passion for helping kids who stutter. After graduating, Kristin and Susie have continued to work closely. Susie credits her passion and knowledge for working with people who stutter to Kristin Chmela, her mentor. Susie has a history of designing and building successful programs. During her time in Fresno Unified School District (2011-2015), Susie designed and piloted a successful framework for a Fluency Consultant role to utilize specialty skills and support SLPs. In 2016, Susie created a private practice focused on supporting children, teens, and adults who stutter. Within her practice, she built a mentoring program for children and teens who stutter to help guide younger children who are experiencing similar challenges. Most recently (2020), following the devastation of the Central California Creek Fire, she decided to write a book to help children who lost homes in the fire. During the process of writing the book, she created a unique platform to reinvent how children connect with literacy and books. Through the Junior Authors Program, children are involved in ongoing votes to help build the book from rough draft to published book on Amazon. Susie’s love of working with children is evident from the first time you meet her. She cares for each one of the families she works with. She is full of positive energy, encouragement, and is an invaluable resource for anyone she works with.

Veronica Holyoke, has been working in education for 24 years. Originally from the East Coast she moved to Utah in 2012. She has held various leadership roles in the Jordan School District before becoming a school administrator 3 years ago.
Veronica underwent a transformative journey through the Ruckus Maker Mastermind. She initially faced challenges in school leadership and imposter syndrome but found renewed joy and confidence upon joining the program. Through activities like the hot seat, she received practical advice and support from educators globally, fostering a supportive community that helped her overcome obstacles in both professional and personal life.
Veronica describes her new perspectives on leadership effectiveness. With aspirations for advanced research in educational practices and leading a lab school, she credits the mastermind for instilling confidence and clarity about her career path. She sees herself using her leadership capabilities to one day get a PhD in education to do the latest research to support the future of education. Her ultimate goal is to work collaboratively with school districts to research best practices, especially in terms of classroom management and behaviorism.
In less than 90 days after joining the Ruckus Maker Mastermind, Veronica was named the assistant principal of the year for her district and since recording this podcast she was named the assistant principal of the year for the state of Utah.

Dr. Andrew B. Campbell (Dr. ABC) is a graduate of the University of Toronto, with a PhD. in Educational Leadership, Policy, and Diversity. He is presently a Faculty member in the Master of Teaching (MT) Program at the University of Toronto and an Adjunct Assistant Professor at Queens University (online). He is an Ontario Certified Teacher (OCT) and has been an educator for over 25 years in Jamaica, The Bahamas and Canada.

Cory L. Cain was raised amongst the vast palm trees of Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He has served as a teacher, lead teacher, dean, department chair, assistant principal, and principal. In these positions, he has focused on communicative approaches to teacher-led professional development, cooperative learning, and data-driven instructional practices and has led the STEM department to record standardized test scores. Previously, he led a teacher-led hiring initiative that he created, based on behavior-based interviewing; developed Yale-based, social emotional training classes for teachers; and has spent the last year helping eradicate educational inequity by becoming a leader in working with educators to envision a new story where the power of personal relationships nurtures academic, social and emotional growth for young people at Wendell Phillips High School in Bronzeville. After spending nearly twenty years working in urban education, focusing on communicative approaches to teacher-led professional development; cooperative learning; data-driven instructional practices; behavior-based interviewing; and Yale-based, social-emotional training classes for teachers, he aspires to serve as a coach that focuses on creating inclusive communities where all people are treated with respect and dignity, where multiple perspectives and experiences are welcome, and where students from all cultures and backgrounds can succeed. Cory holds a BS in biology; minor in Spanish; and an MBA in marketing from the University of Miami; a Masters of Science in Organizational Leadership from Columbia University, a Certificate in School Management & Leadership from Harvard Business School, a Certificate in School Discipline Reform from Loyola's Law School, and just recently finished his law degree at Northwestern University’s Pritzker School of Law. Dre “All Day” Baldwin teaches what he learned to help people dominate their game in work and in life. He was a hard-working athlete who had distant dreams of going pro, but he was coming from a small NCAA D3 school, and had no connections to the professional world. Stacey Green began her tenure at Stockton Grade School (SGS) as a new principal with an ambitious goal: transform the school’s culture from an isolated, individual classroom focus to an integrated, responsive, and collaborative environment where teachers lead with the whole child and the whole school in mind. In just six years, Green has had remarkable success, not only because of her individual talents, but because of her belief that change happens when leaders “empower others to remove barriers and transform problems into opportunities.” Green has used this approach to lead SGS through the Kansas School Redesign process, earning the distinction of being named a Kansas Mercury School in 2017. On the path toward personalizing student learning, Green has supported teachers in aligning with school vision and purpose through personalized professional development. SGS teachers have since embraced trauma-informed practices, increasing connection with students across experiences, and improving staff’s capacity for mutual support, self-care, and vicarious trauma prevention. Today, SGS is known for high community and family engagement, regularly hosting visits and presenting at conferences on the power of redesigning instruction through research-based practices. Superintendent Roger Lowry notes Green’s insatiable quest for knowledge of education and leadership, calling her the best principal he has observed in his 20 years as an administrator. Green holds an M.S. from Fort Hays State University and a B.A. from Bethany College.

Would you start a business with someone you’ve only met in person once and talked to for about 5 minutes? Spotlight Trust co-founders Lisa Lambert of Rule Number Six and Rick Kitagawa of Kaiju Coaching did. That’s the power of trust. Lisa and Rick first met while working remotely as leadership coaches (later head coaches) in Seth Godin’s altMBA. They had the chance to very briefly meet in-person in New York City, but collaborating on Spotlight Trust wasn’t even a seed of an idea at the time. They later had the chance to work more closely together (remotely) on several initiatives within the Akimbo Workshops and recognized the value in uniting each other’s different perspectives and experiences to tackle a recurring theme in both their paths and one that felt more important than ever: trust. Bringing deep leadership experience in their own respective fields and having coached thousands of leaders around the world independently as well as through the altMBA other Akimbo Workshops, Lisa and Rick took the leap to co-found Spotlight Trust in late 2019. Spotlight Trust combines their forces and insights to bring a practical framework for developing trust to leaders and the organizations and communities that rely on those leaders. Rick Kitagawa brings his creative entrepreneurial background, out-of-the-box thinking, and executive coaching experience and mixes it with his experience of teaching and designing curricula at the university level to the Spotlight Trust. His ability to unlock the leadership potential in people is only matched by his open mind, his flair for the dramatic, and his love of monsters and mythical creatures. Scott Seider is an applied developmental psychologist whose research focuses on the role of schools in supporting adolescents’ civic development. He has reported on this work in more than 70 academic publications including Schooling for Critical Consciousness: Engaging Black and Latinx Youth in Analyzing, Navigating, and Challenging Racial Injustice (Harvard Education Press, 2020). Findings from this five-year study of youth critical consciousness development have also been published in academic journals such as Child Development, Developmental Psychology, and the Journal of Research on Adolescence. As a core faculty member in the Counseling, Developmental and Educational Psychology department at the Lynch School, Dr. Seider teaches undergraduate and graduate courses focused on adolescent development. He also serves on advisory boards for a number of different youth-serving organizations including EL (Expeditionary Learning) Education, the Journal of Adolescent Research, and the Center for Parent & Teen Communication. Prior to joining the Boston College faculty, Dr. Seider worked as a teacher-educator at Boston University and as an English teacher in the Boston Public Schools and Westwood Public Schools. Daren Graves is currently the director of the Urban Master's Program at Simmons College. As a teacher educator, he is committed to preparing teachers who see urban youth as assets in the teaching and learning process. His research interest involves the interplay of school culture and racial identity on the academic performance of Black adolescents. Graves' research has given him an understanding of the issues that Boston-area youth face inside and outside of their school environments. Graves previously served as assistant director at Simmons College Upward Bound in Boston, where he helped coordinate the academic and college preparation components of this federally funded after-school and summer program.

It all started when… The Conrad Foundation honors the legacy of Apollo 12 astronaut, Charles “Pete” Conrad, and his four-decade passion for innovation and entrepreneurship. Pete spent 20 years as a U.S. Navy Test Pilot and NASA Astronaut. In November 1969, he became the third man to walk on the Moon. After many years as an aerospace explorer, Pete’s entrepreneurial spirit took flight. He founded four companies devoted to the commercialization of space travel. Unfortunately, Pete’s pursuits were cut short with his passing in 1999. Nancy Conrad, Pete’s wife, shared his passion for inspiring future explorers, often working hand-in-hand with him prior to his death to launch his numerous commercial space businesses. In his passing, Nancy knew she wanted to keep Pete’s spirit for innovation and entrepreneurship alive, but targeted to the next generation of explorers. 15 years ago, this former high school teacher launched the Conrad Foundation and its flagship program, the Conrad Challenge, encouraging students to Get Your Genius On™. Dr. Franklin D. Gilliam, Jr. began his tenure as the eleventh Chancellor of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG) in September 2015. He is the first African American chancellor to lead a non-HBCU in the UNC System. Chancellor Gilliam brings to UNCG a wealth of experience from a career that spans more than 30 years in higher education. During that time, he was Dean of the UCLA Luskin School of Public Affairs as well as a longtime Professor of Public Policy and Political Science at UCLA, where his research focused on strategic communications, public policy, electoral politics, and racial and ethnic politics. At UNCG, Dr. Gilliam has not only led the campus to record growth, but has also helped build a solid foundation for a very bright future at the university -- from working with legislators to secure funding for a $105M STEM building; to establishing a Millennial Campus designation, which will create the conditions that will drive growth in areas like health and wellness and the creative and performing arts; to increasing diversity among faculty and administration; and to working with leaders on this campus and beyond on innovative student success initiatives which have been lauded by national foundations and press. UNC Greensboro is one of the seventeen campuses of The University of North Carolina, the birthplace of public higher education in America. Administered by President Peter Hans and overseen by The UNC Board of Governors, each campus is headed by its own chancellor and Board of Trustees. The Board of Governors of the University of North Carolina elected Dr. Franklin D. Gilliam, Jr., as the eleventh Chancellor of UNC Greensboro (UNCG) on May 22, 2015. Chancellor Gilliam brings to UNCG and the UNC System a wealth of experience from a career that spans more than 30 years in higher education. He took office on September 8, 2015. During his tenure, UNCG has surpassed a record 20,000 students; grown its endowment, research enterprise, and overall facilities and campus infrastructure; significantly increased its fundraising; and elevated the presence, reputation, and real-world impact of the largest university in the North Carolina Triad region. Prior to this appointment, Dr. Gilliam served as Dean of the UCLA Luskin School of Public Affairs for seven years and was a longtime UCLA Professor of Public Policy and Political Science. His research focused on strategic communications, public policy, electoral politics, and racial and ethnic politics. As Dean of UCLA Luskin, Dr. Gilliam shepherded a $50 million naming gift and launched and executed an ambitious strategic plan and capital campaign, establishing the school as a regional leader in addressing and finding solutions to some of society’s most pressing problems. VISIONARY AND CIVIC LEADER Dr. Gilliam has not only led UNCG to record growth, but he has also helped build a solid foundation for a very bright future at the university. In his first year at UNCG, Dr. Gilliam worked with board members and key leaders to assure UNCG’s inclusion on the Connect NC bond referendum, which voters ultimately passed, securing $105 million in funding for a new nursing and STEM building. The new building is scheduled to open by Spring 2021. He worked with campus leaders to secure a transformative gift from community leader and philanthropist Tobee Kaplan, who donated $5 million to name the Leonard J. Kaplan Center for Wellness. The gift is only the third of this size in UNCG’s history. Dr. Gilliam led the effort to secure Millennial Campus designation from its Board of Governors, creating the conditions that will drive growth in areas like health and wellness and the creative and performing arts for years to come on campus and in the broader community. Dr. Gilliam is a senior fellow with the FrameWorks Institute (winner of the 2015 MacArthur Award for Creative and Effective Institutions), where he has contributed to research and training on health care, racial equity, early child development, youth and rural issues, and criminal justice. In 2018, he was named chair of the NCAA Division I Presidential Forum. Additionally, he serves on the boards of the Union Square Campus, Gateway University Research Park, North Carolina Campus Compact, and the FrameWorks Institute, as well as the Executive Committee for the Coalition of Urban and Metropolitan Universities. AWARD-WINNING EDUCATOR Prior to his appointment as Dean at UCLA, Dr. Gilliam served as the inaugural Associate Vice Chancellor of Community Partnerships in the University of California system from 2002 to 2008. As Associate Vice Chancellor, he championed UCLA’s civic engagement by supporting engaged scholarship and community collaborations to improve the quality of life for residents of Los Angeles. Dr. Gilliam is the author of Farther to Go: Readings and Cases in African-American Politics (Harcourt Brace), and his work has been published in many leading academic journals. He is frequently interviewed or cited by national and international news outlets such as CNN, The New York Times, The Washington Post, NPR, The Huffington Post, and the BBC. Dr. Gilliam was honored with the 2015 Upton Sinclair Award by the Liberty Hill Foundation for his renowned work advancing civic engagement and commitment to issues of equity. Twice nominated for UCLA’s Luckman Distinguished Teaching Award, he has also taught at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Grinnell College, and the University of Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania, and was a Visiting Scholar at Brandeis University. In addition, he taught at Columbia University, Fisk University, and — with former Vice President Al Gore — at Middle Tennessee State University. In 2017, Dr. Gilliam was named by Triad Business Journal as one of the region’s Most Admired CEOs — a group of top executives recognized for exceptional leadership in business, and for their philanthropic endeavors. Dr. Gilliam received his B.A. from Drake University and his M.A. and Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Iowa. Dr. Gilliam has been married for 26 years to Jacquelean (“Jacquie”) Gilliam, most recently the Executive Director of Scholarships & Student Support Initiatives and Campus-Wide Initiatives at UCLA and now a philanthropic consultant and active community volunteer and leader. Oleg Lougheed’s start in life was inauspicious. At 9 years old, he relinquished his parents' rights and entered the Russian orphanage. At 12 years old, he decided to be adopted into a new family, in a new country, halfway across the world, to start a new life. At 24 years old, he began his journey of helping others live the life they have always dreamed of, despite their hardships and misfortunes by allowing them to recognize the uniqueness and worth within their own story.

Martha Dunagin Saunders is the sixth President of the University of West Florida. In her 30-plus years in higher education, she has served in academic and leadership roles at universities in Florida, Georgia, Wisconsin and Mississippi. Her area of academic expertise is in public relations and crisis communication for which she has won numerous awards, including two Public Relations Society of America’s coveted Silver Anvils. Saunders led the University of West Florida to its status as a top-performing public university with the third-highest score in the Florida Board of Governors performance metrics. She established the UWF Innovation Institute, Center for Cybersecurity and the Office of Equity and Diversity. She oversaw the reorganization of the institution’s colleges, and under her guidance, UWF established two new named colleges–the Usha Kundu M.D. College of Health and the Hal Marcus College of Science and Engineering. Saunders’ vision for UWF is for it to grow beyond its beginnings as a regional comprehensive university and be seen as a leader in innovation and cutting edge academic programs. She plans to build on the University’s strengths and its undergraduate traditions while creating programs that will attract the faculty and research funding needed to make the leap to the next level. As an entrepreneurial leader, Saunders is passionate about creating innovative solutions to deal with the dynamic challenges facing higher education.
