Better late than never when dealing with hungry crocodiles, right? This episode is about the Taito arcade game turned into an Atari 2600 cartridge, Jungle Hunt. Are you game for wild adventure? ARE YOU?? If you are, then I will need you to sign a few release forms. You know, in case of crocodiles.

Next up is Solar Storm by Imagic. Do you have some thoughts on this game? Would you like to send them to me? You can, just drop a line to 2600gamebygame@gmail.com by the end of the day on Monday April 30. I will play or read it on the show, and then you will be slightly internet famous. Probably very slightly.

Thank you so much for listening! Watch out for that cannibal! OH NO THERE'S ANOTHER ONE HALP

31 Mar 2013Episode 6 - Slot Racers - Canyon Bomber - Super Breakout 00:29:33

This week it's back to Atari for three games, Slot Racers, Canyon Bomber, and Super Breakout. Next week I'll be discussing Imagic games for the first time, Trick Shot and Demon Attack. Please send your stories and memories of those games to 2600gamebygame@comcast.net. Thank you for listening!

04 Nov 2020Interview: Jan Hermanns, Blinky Goes Up00:41:03

I was delighted when Jan Hermanns agreed to speak with me for the podcast about his terrific game Blinky Goes Up. We talk about programming the game, Jan's artwork and other hobbies, and also a tantalizingly half finished game that he has! I really enjoyed talking with him and I hope you will give the interview a listen and try Blinky Goes Up if you haven't already. Thanks for listening!

31 Dec 20132013 Wrap Up00:21:08

Hi everyone, Merry Christmas, Happy Kwanzaa, and Happy New Year! This has been a great year for me, and one of the reasons is that I finally started this podcast and met so many of you online. I am very grateful for all of your positive comments and feedback, thank you so much. Again, no games today, just a quick wrap-up of the year and what you can expect next year (hint: podcasts about Atari 2600 games). I also inserted something you might be interested in, which is kind of fun and kind of depressing for me to listen to. Next week I'll be talking about Xonox and their games Ghost Manor and Spike's Peak. Upcoming games will include Turbo and Venture by Coleco, Maze Craze and Video Checkers by Atari, He-Man and Locomotion by M-Network, Cosmic Ark and No Escape! by Imagic, and Dodge 'Em and Missile Command by Atari. I know we're all out of practice, but if you have any stories or memories about any of these games that you'd like to share, please send them to me at 2600gamebygame@comcast.net. You can also post them on Facebook or (less likely if you have a long story) Twitter. I encourage you to also send them as audio submissions! I love getting those.

To thank you for a really wonderful year, I am having a spur of the moment contest. You can win a complete in box (CIB) copy of Starmaster by Activision. In this episode, I talk about my most downloaded show, which I also mentioned on FB and Twitter. The first person who can tell me my second most downloaded show will win the game, and maybe even receive it in the same month! You can enter through email, Facebook or Twitter. If no one guesses by Sunday January 5, I'll put it back in the hopper for a future contest. Thank you so much to everyone for listening, I cannot express that enough, it means the world to me. I hope to bring you many more episodes featuring your favorite and not-so-favorite games for the Atari 2600 in the coming years!

07 Jul 2021Tapper by Sega01:23:57

Hey there, this week I am covering the amazing port of Tapper, the Bally Midway arcade game programmed by Beck Tech for Sega. Please check this game out if you haven't, it is well worth your time. Coming up next on the show is the Milton Bradley game Spitfire Attack, which was packaged with the Flight Commander controller. If you have any feedback on Spitfire Attack, please send it to me at 2600gamebygame@gmail.com by July 19. I'm not quite sure what will happen after that, I want to get back on the opposite week schedule so I may take some time off. I will let you know for sure in the next episode.

Tomorrow (July 8th) is national Video Game Day! Play something will ya!

Thank you all so much for listening, it means so much to me.

08 Jan 2014Episode 44 - Ghost Manor and Spike's Peak by Xonox00:58:11

Happy New Year Everyone! Unfortunately I am still on the old year's procrastination schedule. It has been really hard getting back into this, it felt like I had to learn it all over again. Lots of awkward silences to edit out. I hope this episode measures up to my usual standards. Next week I'll be talking about Turbo and Venture by Coleco, which I remember playing a lot in the arcades, but not so much at home. Especially Turbo, since I did not have a Colecovision. Upcoming games include Maze Craze and Video Checkers by Atari, He- Man and Loco-motion by M-Network, Cosmic Ark and No Escape! by Imagic, Missile Command and Dodge 'Em by Atari, and Space cavern and Racquetball by Games by Apollo. Send your stories for these games, and games I've already covered that you missed, or anything you'd like to share about your experience with the 2600 to 2600gamebygame@comcast.net. Your contributions really are the backbone of the show. Plus they make the show twice as long! I keed, I keed. Thanks to everyone for listening, have a great week!

21 Jul 2013Episode 21 - 3-D Tic-Tac-Toe & Stellar Track by Atari00:32:49

This week's episode makes me wonder why the heck I took on this project in the first place. It was a rough week, the Stellar Track manual kicked my butt. Like Beavis said, you gotta have stuff that sucks if you wanna have stuff that's cool. Genius. Next week should be better, it will be Atlantis and Star Voyager by Imagic! Upcoming games include Space Jockey and Sneak n Peek by US Games, Basic Programming and Video Olympics by Atari, Skiing and Bridge by Activision, Breakout and Home Run by Atari, and Encounter at L5 and Warplock by Data Age. I'd love for you to send me your stories about these games, I read all of the submissions on the show! Send them to 2600gamebygame@comcast.net. As always, thanks so much for listening!

Hello everyone, I want to thank you for your love and continued support over these last few difficult years for me. I'm feeling a bit more hopeful for the new year. I hope that you are all doing well and enjoying the holiday season so far. I hope this episode will help give you some extra (or any) Christmas spirit like it did for me. I love you all very much and I am so glad you are here. Merry Christmas!

03 May 2016122 - RealSports Basketball and Tennis by Atari01:11:53

This week I cover two more games in the RealSports line, Tennis and Basketball. Basketball was an unfinished prototype that saw the light of day near the turn of the century. I think there is only one more RealSports title left, Boxing, which oddly came out much later than the rest. Next time I'll be discussing the Activision games Oink! and Dolphin, so if you have any thoughts on these games (or the RealSports games, I expected the feedback to be a bit light and I was not mistaken), please send it to me at 2600gamebygame@gmail.com. You will not regret it! Thank you so much for listening, and this Sunday, please say hi to your mother for me.

Happy New Year! Thank you so much for welcoming me back to the podcasting world so warmly, I am very grateful to all of you. The first game for 2024 is Frogger II - Threedeep! by Parker Brothers. What does this game have to do with a barn in Maine? oh, you are gonna find out, believe me. Next up on the show will be Alpha Beam with Ernie by Atari and CTW. If you have any feedback for this game, please send it to 2600gamebygame@gmail.com by January 22nd, to be included in the show. Thank you for listening!

04 Dec 2013Episode 41 - Freeway and Kaboom by Activision00:40:21

No, this is not a rerun. I was just so happy that I finally got the paddles to work with Stella so I could record sounds from paddle games, and I corrected what in my opinion was a horrible oversight in the Circus Atari episode. Anyway. This episode is about one of the greatest paddle games ever, Kaboom!, and Freeway. I can't say enough good things about Kaboom. Next week I'll be looking at Night Driver and Golf by Atari, followed by Ghost Manor and Spike's Peak by Xonox, Turbo and Venture by Coleco, and Maze Craze and Video Checkers by Atari. Sandwiched in between there will be, let's just call it the holiday memories show at this point. If you have any stories or memories of any of these games, please send them to 2600gamebygame@comcast.net. For the holiday memories show, please get those in by the 20th so I can put it together over that weekend. Thank you everyone, hope you had a Happy Thanksgiving, and mazel tov!

07 Oct 2018Crypts of Chaos by 20th Century Fox01:26:29

After a short delay, I am back with Crypts of Chaos by 20th Century Fox. A fine dungeon crawler if I do say so (and I do), a genre that is underrepresented on the Atari 2600. Coming up next is the arcade port Kangaroo by Atari. If you have feedback for this game, please send it to me by end of day October 18th, and the show will be out on the 21st. So he says.

I am playing for Extra Life again this year, but I am going to split it between November 3rd and 10th. I am old and I can't stay up that long anymore, it's really the thought that counts. I will be playing once again for the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. Please donate at the link below, thank you for your support! And I thank you as always for listening.

29 Jan 2023Pitfall II by Activision02:34:29

AB-035, Pitfall II: The Lost Caverns!  1

Happy New Year! If I can still say that when it's almost Groundhog Day. I hit a snag right out of the gate, which seems to be typical now. But, Pitfall II by Activision is finally available, and it's a doozy. The part about the game and its history etc. is twice as long as it usually is, I had a lot of fun researching this game. And of course, playing it. It's one of my favorites. I hope that you enjoy the episode. Coming up next is the super rare game Gamma Attack, by a tiny company called Gammation. Not as much history on this one, but what I've seen so far is very interesting. if you have any thoughts on this game, or even if you have a copy, I would love to hear about it. Please send them to me at 2600gamebygame@gmail.com by February 7th. Thanks so much for your patience, and thank you as always for listening.

Hi everyone, today we are looking at an unfinished prototype by Apollo called Kyphus. It's not really playable, but there is some interesting stuff to go into. And I apologize for posting the wrong date for feedback on Facebook and Twitter, if you didn't get your feedback in for Kyphus because of that I'm sorry. Please do send it next time if you can. The next game is the homebrew Blinky Goes Up by Jan Hermanns. Blinky is so cute! If you have feedback for this game, you can send it to me at 2600gamebygame@gmail.com by end of the day November 1st. That is the correct date. Thank you so much for listening, please stay safe and I'll see you soon.

11 Mar 2015Episode 93 - Brain Games & Frog Pond by Atari01:01:23

Hi, it's me again. Today I am covering the final released text/picture label game on the part list, Brain Games, and the unreleased prototype game Frog Pond. Please check out the episode to find out how to find the clues to Willie's Fergquest contest; once you get all the clues you have to make 4 of them into the phrase that pays. I have extended the contest until March 24th at 11:59 PM EST. If you've already sent in an entry, you can send another one. Next week I'll be covering the Activision games Megamania and Sky Jinks. After that it will be Cosmic Avenger, Smurf: Rescue in Gargamel's Castle, and Carnival by Coleco; RealSports Soccer & Volleyball by Atari; Super Cobra and Reactor by Parker Brothers; Tax Avoiders by American Video Game and Boing! by First Star; and RealSports Football and Atari Video Cube by Atari. Episode 100 will feature a very special game, and I think it will probably be my longest episode to date. I don't want to say yet what it is, because I may start getting feedback now and then I will forget to put it in the show. I will give you ample time to send feedback, don't worry. If you have any thoughts on any of these games or any I've already covered, please send them to me at 2600gamebygame@comcast.net. Thanks for listening, see you next Wednesday!

01 Feb 2017133 - Q*Bert by Parker Brothers01:24:47

Thanks for your patience for this new episode on Q*Bert by Parker Brothers. Q*Bert is a fantastic arcade game and has a great port on the 2600, as well as many other systems! I hope you enjoy the episode. Next up in 2 weeks will be Glib by Selchow and Wrighter, the only adult word game released for the 2600 (I guess Hangman and Word Zapper are word games, but in my opinion they're skewed toward kids). If you've played Glib and would like to share your thoughts on the game, please send them to me at 2600gamebygame@gmail.com. Thank you so much for listening!

This past weekend, Bill and Lucy Lange hosted the Atari Party East at their home in Somerset NJ, close to where Atari had an office back in the 80s. Atari Party was started by Bill Kendrick in CA, and Bill decided to pick up the torch for those of us on the East coast! It was a great time, and this is just a short episode about the day. 19 May 2024Dragonstomper by Starpath01:37:57

I am so sorry it's taking me so long to get episodes out. It seems like it's one step up, two steps back. I am trying to fix it. Despite that, the new episode featuring Dragonstomper by Starpath (formerly Arcadia) is now available. I hope you enjoy it. Coming up next will be Porky's by 20th Century Fox. I have some stuff coming up, so please get me your feedback by June 5th. You can send that to 2600gamebygame@gmail.com. Once again, I am grateful to all of you for sticking with me and being patient. 18 Nov 2015112 - Name This Game & Towering Inferno by U.S. Games01:37:09

Hello World! Today I check out Name This Game and Towering Inferno by U.S. Games. I also was very fortunate to speak with Ron Dubren, the designer of Name This Game. Big thank you to Ron for taking some time out of his day for me, and you can check him out on the interwebs at the links below.

I forgot to mention in the show that you can still donate to Wade or Rick for the Extra Life charity, up until the end of the year. So if you think you might have missed it, you didn't! Links to donate are below.

So. The next show will NOT be about Glib and Music Machine as I had originally planned. I am going to spend a little more time on the Centipede and Ms. Pac-Man episode, which will be out on December 16th. A Christmas show probably will not happen, but I haven't totally ruled it out. If you have feedback for Centipede or Ms. Pac-Man, or if you have an Atari related Christmas memory, please send them to me at 2600gamebygame@comcast.net no later than end of day on December 13th. Thanks very much for your understanding, and thank you all for listening!

20 Nov 2019Mountain King by CBS Electronics01:35:13

This episode's game is Mountain King by CBS Electronics. It contains bats, which should tell you everything you need to know. Next up is the last game of the year, Roc 'n' Rope by Coleco. Please get your feedback to me at 2600gamebygame@gmail.com by end of day 1 December. I'm also planning another Christmas episode, if you have any Christmas or Hanukkah or Kwanzaa stories you would like to share (it doesn't have to be about video games), please get them to me by December 16th. As always, thanks for listening, and thanks to all who donated and watched along with my Extra Life half marathons. It was a lot of fun and I made my goal, which is awesome.

10 Jan 2018147 - Popeye by Parker Brothers01:49:30

Happy New Year! Today's episode is about Popeye by Parker Brothers, based on the Nintendo arcade game, which in turn is based on the Popeye cartoons, which in turn again is based on the original comic strip which didn't originally feature Popeye (I know, right?!). Lots of great feedback, thank you all so much! Coming up next is Congo Bongo by Sega. If you have feedback for this game, please get it to me by January 21st. I am trying to turn over a new podcasting leaf, hopefully starting on feedback earlier will help. Thank you all so much for listening!

12 Nov 2014Episode 81 - Mega Force & Alien by 20th Century Fox01:14:33

Hi everyone, this episode is about the 20th Century Fox games Mega Force and Alien, both based on their movies. Congratulations to Matthew Edwards for winning the Strudders' Score contest! Thanks to everyone for participating. Next week I'll be looking at Chopper Command and Starmaster by Activision, then I will be taking the week of Thanksgiving off. The first week of December I will be covering Assault and Great Escape by Bomb, then Raiders of the Lost Ark by Atari. I would like to release another Christmas show on the 24th, but I will need more Christmas memories from you! The whole episode will be your feedback about anything associated with Christmas and the VCS/2600. I did one last year and it was very successful; the reason it is only feedback is because I am very busy in December with Christmas and my birthday, both at home and at work. So if you do have any feedback about any of these games, games I've already covered, or your Christmas memories, please send them to me at 2600gamebygame@comcast.net. Thank you so much for listening!

02 Jun 2013Episode 15 - Adventure by Atari00:35:17

This week's episode is all about my favorite video game of all time, Adventure, created by Warren Robinett. LOTS of great listener stories and memories this week, thanks for sending them! I also get a little ranty about E.T. and the Alamagordo landfill. Sorry about that. Next week's show will be about Demons to Diamonds and Steeplechase, both by Atari (although Steeplechase was a Sears exclusive). If you have any stories for these games, or any stories about the 2600 in general, or even if you're a new listener and you have a story about a game I've already covered, send them to me at 2600gamebygame@comcast.net. 25 Mar 2015Episode 95 - Cosmic Avenger, Smurf, & Carnival by Coleco01:34:42

Coleco had more than its fair share of vaporware for the Atari VCS, and this week I cover one of them (or at least what I can of it). Cosmic Avenger never came out and still has not been found, but Smurf and Carnival did! Also, congratulations to Jose Quezada, he won the Atari Flashback 5 from Willie from the Colecovisions podcast. Thank you to all who entered, and thank you to Willie for sponsoring and coming up with the contest!

Next week I will be covering two Realsports titles, Volleyball and Soccer (or Football if you're nasty). Coming up will be Super Cobra and Reactor by Parker Brothers; Tax Avoiders by American Video Game and Boing! by First Star; and RealSports Football and Atari Video Cube by Atari. If you have any thoughts on any of these games or any I've already covered, please send them to me at 2600gamebygame@comcast.net. Thanks for listening, see you next Wednesday!

13 Dec 2023Gamma Attack by Gammation01:31:33

Hi. I know, it's been awhile. How have you been? Anyway, I hope you are amenable to a new episode of my podcast. It's all about the Gammation game Gamma Attack. Lots of interesting goings-on with this game, I hope you'll give it a chance and enjoy. I am taking submissions for the Christmas episode! I know it's kind of late, I'm sorry about that. In the episode the deadline for submissions is December 16. Right now Sarah is very sick and I have no idea when the actual episode is going to come out. Let's say the 20th is the deadline. If Sarah and I are able to record together or not, I'll do my best to get everyone in the show. Thanks so much everyone, I am grateful to you and your patience, and for sticking around. I love you.

This week I discuss the second ever 3rd party video game manufacturer, Imagic, and two of their launch titles, Trick Shot and Demon Attack. I also give a more in-depth biography on Nick Turner, designer of one of last week's games, Super Breakout. Mr. Turner graciously answered my qustions to him this week, and I thank him very much for that. Next week I will talk about Parker Brothers and two of their 2600 games, Star Wars: Jedi Arena, and Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back. Upcoming games include Warlords, Defender, Indy 500, Street Racer, Donkey Kong, Zaxxon, Checkers, and Fishing Derby. Thank you so much for listening!

01 Apr 2020Z-Tack by Bomb01:13:20

Hi there, I hope that you are all safe and staying home if you can. I know in many cases that is more difficult, a lot of my friends have to work from home while home schooling their kids, which I imagine is a lot. We will get through this! One thing that may or may not help with that is Z-Tack by Bomb, the super rare ripoff of a PAL game called Base Attack. I was kind of surprised that I got so much feedback for this game, thank you so much. Next time I'll be covering a big game, Pole Position by Atari. If you have any thoughts on this game, please send it to 2600gamebygame@gmail.com by April 12th. I think there will be a lot of feedback for that one too. As always, I thank you so much for listening and I wish you all health and happiness.

11 Jun 2017138 - Buck Rogers Planet of Zoom by Sega01:36:35

Biddi biddi biddi my friends, here's an episode about the Sega arcade port Buck Rogers, Planet of Zoom! I hope that you enjoy the game and the episode. Next up will be Survival Run by Milton Bradley, which was packaged with its very own controller! Thank you to Strudders for sending me a copy of the game to give away to one lucky listener. If you'd like a shot at winning the game, all you have to do is guess the combined Strudder's Score of Strudders himself and also Mini Strudders. So for example, if Strudders rates it 6 out of 10 and Mini Strudders gives it 5 out of 10, the entrant who comes closest to 11 (over or under, this ain't the Price Is Right) will win the game! In case of a tie, I will use random.org to determine the winner. Please get your entries in to me by June 26th, and if you have any feedback you'd like me to read on that show, please try to have it in by then as well. As always, thank you so much for listening!

09 Sep 2015107 - River Raid by Activision01:47:27

Today I look at one of the most popular Atari 2600 games (and I can say 2600 because it came out after the rebranding), River Raid! Extra special thanks to Carol Shaw and Ralph Merkle for their help with this episode, and to Willie, ArKay, Captain Bob, and Mike at the Atari 5200 Super Podcast for their help as well, even though I screwed that up slightly (more details in the episode). Please go and check out the Atari 5200 Super Podcast if you don't already listen, and please check out their Facebook page at the link above!

Coming up next week is Bugs and Journey Escape by Data Age. Thanks to Wade's (from Inverse Atascii) suggestion, I now have a calendar to your right (unless you're on a mobile phone, then all bets are off). As long as I remember to keep it updated, you can check there for all the upcoming shows and see when they will be published. 23 Dec 2013Episode 43 - Atari 2600 Christmas Memories00:55:59

As I have been mentioning, this episode features your Christmas memories of the Atari 2600! I didn't get any Hanukkah or Kwanzaa submissions, so we'll just go with Christmas. There's some great stories here, thanks to everyone for contributing and for listening! Thanks especially to Ryan who let me use his Christmas photo from 1978! Next week will be a short episode containing a surprise, I won't be discussing any games. Think of it as a end of year wrap-up show. Merry Christmas everyone!

Happy New Year everyone! I hope the new year finds you well and hopeful. We are starting this year off with Tooth Protectors, the mail away advergame sponsored by Johnson and Johnson and put together by Camelot Marketing Services Group and Diversified Software Development. I hope that you enjoy the episode. Coming up next on the show is Pressure Cooker by Activision. If you have any feedback for Pressure Cooker, please get it to me by January 24th at the end of the day. Also, our friend Doug has built a Plus Cart that he is giving away on the show! If you would like to enter the contest to win, please send me an email listing your top 5 Atari 2600 games. Put Plus Cart in the subject line and send it to 2600gamebygame@gmail.com by February 7th. I will pick a winner and announce the top games as chosen by you on the February 10th episode. I think we have a good year coming up, thank you for coming on this journey with me, and thank you for listening.

11 Feb 2018149 - Wall Ball by Avalon Hill01:29:57

Hi there, thanks for your patience for this episode on Wall Ball from Avalon Hill. I was finishing the editing on Wednesday morning when Sarah went to work. We thought the front porch was wet, but it was covered with ice. She fell and it was very scary, she was in a lot of pain. I ended up bringing her to the doctor to find out she had bruised her ribs. She is doing better now but the pain sneaks up on her still. Thanks to all of you again for your patience and well wishes.

Extra special thanks to Hoji and Kate Scott, who both helped me with this show by telling me about the programmer, Duncan Scott. Duncan sadly passed away in 2011, but when I contacted Kate she was very gracious and willing to help. She got together with her mom and they both answered the questions I sent. Thank you both so much!

Next up is the prototype for Tempest, by Atari. This is readily available on Flashback systems and also on Atari Age. I would love to hear your feedback on Tempest which you can send to me at 2600gamebygame@gmail.com. Please send it to me by the end of the day February 18th. Thank you so much for listening!

21 Sep 2018Summer of Tanks Wrapup - Rank-a-Tank with Turbotastic Bryce00:36:34

The Summer of Tanks officially closes with this great audio submission from Bryce, the host of the Turbotastic Podcast! He took all of the tank games on the 2600 and ranked them. I did the same, and I also posted polls on social media, so you'll hear what you think too! Also, if you'd like to enter the contest to win 5 of the 2600 tank games, please send an email to 2600gamebygame@gmail.com by 10 PM EST on October 2nd. Please put Summer of Tanks contest in the subject line. If you've already won something from my show, please sit out this one if you could. Thank you all for listening!

02 Sep 2018Front Line by Coleco01:26:13

We bring the #SummerOfTanks to a close with the wonderful Front Line by Coleco, a run and tank game kinda similar to Commando (which will be an episode in 2045). I hope you enjoyed the #SummerOfTanks because that will be the last themed season that I do on this show. It just happened to work out that way. Next time I'm covering Bobby Is Going Home, a very special PALcast requested very gently by my friend Rama. Please send in your feedback no later than 6 pm EST on 11 September. Thank you for listening and enjoy the rest of your summer, of which we have three more weeks. No matter what schools and pumpkin spice lattes say.

14 May 2014Episode 61 - Thunderground and Star Trek: Strategic Operations Simulator by Sega00:38:37

This week I talk about two more of Sega's Atari 2600 games, Thunderground and Star Trek: Strategic Operations Simulator.  I found both of them to be fun to play. Next episode will not be out until June 4, I am taking a few weeks off. That will be MagiCard and Video Life by CommaVid. The MagiCard manual is horribly long and complicated, so the extra time will be nice. Upcoming games include Submarine Commander and Video Pinball by Atari; Cross Force and Tape Worm by Spectravision; Word Zapper and Commando Raid by US Games; Asteroids and Berzerk by Atari; and Mousetrap by Coleco and Ladybug by John Champeau. I'm including this homebrew (first one!) because it was slated to be released by Coleco but wasn't, and Champeau later released a great port of the game. So if you have any stories or memories of any of these games, please send them to me at 2600gamebygame@comcast.net. Thank you everyone, have a great Memorial Day if you're in the US and I'll see you in June!

19 Nov 2014Episode 82 - Chopper Command & Starmaster by Activision01:04:42

Eh up! Today I discuss Chopper Command and Starmaster, two Activision games that were formerly Atari games. Next week I will be taking off for Thanksgiving, but I will resume the following week with Assault and Great Escape by Bomb. Hopefully that's not prophetic. The following week will be Raiders of the Lost Ark by Atari. After that I will play it by ear, but I will have a Listener Christmas Memories show the week of Christmas. So if you have any Christmas memories, or if you would like to comment on upcoming games or any games I've already covered (the Bomb episode might be a good episode for past game comments). Send it all to me at 2600gamebygame@comcast.net. Thank you for listening, and I hope you all have a wonderful and happy Thanksgiving! EAT HEAVY

09 Jun 2013Episode 16 - Steeplechase & Demons to Diamonds by Atari00:23:20

This weeks episode features two early 80s paddle games from Atari, Steeplechase and Demons to Diamonds. Steeplechase was a Sears exclusive that did not have an Atari counterpart. I also debut a new segment, so please let me know how you like it! I think it will be a once in awhile segment. Next week I'm on vacation, so the next 2 games, M Network's Star Strike and the Adventures of Tron, will be discussed on June 23rd. You have 2 weeks to send me stories about these games or anything else related to the Atari! Send everything to 2600gamebygame@comcast.net. I read all submissions on the show, because people like that. I host my own podcast and I still get a thrill when I am mentioned on someone else's podcast. Thanks for listening and enjoy the beginning of summer!

If you have any thoughts on the game, please send them to me at 2600gamebygame@gmail.com. All the entries are read on the show, so it's kind of like you're talking, right? 29 Nov 2017146 - Quadrun by Atari01:50:59

Alfred E. Neuman once said, "Better late than never. Unless you're going to the dentist!" Oh, how we laughed. This episode is about the extremely elusive Atari Age magazine mailaway game, Quadrun. It is the first home video game to feature speech without having to use an add on unit, like those OTHER systems. It also makes its own gravy! Coming up in January is Popeye by Parker Brothers. If you have any feedback for this game or any I've already covered, please send it to 2600gamebygame@gmail.com and I will read or play it on the show. Also, if you have any Christmas memories you'd like to share for the Christmas episode, please send it in by December 15th. I would love to hear from you! Thank you so much for listening.

02 Nov 2016128 - Music Machine by Sparrow00:52:48

This week I discuss one of the two religious games released for the 2600, Music Machine by Sparrow. It's an expensive game but worth your time if you use emulators or Harmony cartridges. Next, uh, time on the show, I will be talking about Crazy Climber by Atari, one of the Atari Age magazine mailaway exclusive games. So yeah, another rare game, I promise I did not plan that! If you have feedback for Crazy Climber, you can send it to me at 2600gamebygame@gmail.com. Please be sure to join me this weekend for Extra Life, and if you can donate, there are plenty of people to choose from in the links! Thanks to all who donated, and I thank you all for listening. This week's extra large episode deals with Circus Atari and Superman, another two of my favorite games for the Atari 2600. (I have a lot of favorite games.) Big giant extra special thanks this week to John Dunn, Susan Jaekel, and Mike Lorenzen for graciously sharing their memories of their time with Atari! It was very cool hearing from all of them! Next week I'll be doing King Kong and Jawbreaker by Tigervision. If you have any memories of these games that you'd like to share with the class, please send them to 2600gamebygame@comcast.net. Please check out the episode for more upcoming games, I am running late and don't want to type them all. As always, thank you for listening, I hope you enjoy it!

I say this too much, but I thank you for being patient with me as I navigate through my lovely depression. This long overdue episode features the homebrew game AVCStec Challenge by Simon Quernhorst and Paul Slocum. It's based on the very difficult (to me) Aztec Challenge by Paul Norman, for the Commodore 64. I hope that you enjoy the episode. Next up is Cookie Monster Munch by Atari and the Children's Computer Workshop. Please send any feedback on this or any previous game to 2600gamebygame@gmail.com by August 16th. Tell me your thoughts and/or memories of Cookie Monster Munch, I'll take care of the history and gameplay. Take care of yourselves and I thank you so much for listening.

I went back and forth about releasing this episode, I put a lot of myself out there and tried to explain what is going on with me. So there's no game talk in it. :) I ran it by Sarah and she thought it was good, so here you go. If you listen to it or not, it's up to you, I won't hold anything against you.

Thank you once again to Kevin McLaughlin, I won't be able to do that enough. Thank you all for listening, and please be safe on New Year's Eve. I am so glad you are here.

13 Mar 2014Episode 52 - Stampede and Ice Hockey by Activision00:58:38

This week's episode is about two more Activision games, Stampede and Ice Hockey. These games are so simple that I think I spent much more time on the packaging then on the actual gameplay! Next week is two more Atari games, Othello and RealSports Baseball (I think it's the first Atari silver label cart in the podcast that wasn't a reissue). Coming up isFast Eddie and Deadly Duck by Sirius/20th Century Fox; Surround and A Game of Concentration (AKA Hunt 'n' Score) by Atari; Suicide Mission and Killer Satellites by Starpath; James Bond 007 and Gyruss by Parker Brothers; and Codebreaker, Flag Capture & Video Chess by Atari. If you have any stories or memories for these games or any games I've already covered, send your email or audio submission to 2600gamebygame@comcast.net. Thanks everyone!

31 Oct 2015Happy Halloween! Haunted House by Gottlieb00:32:05

Happy Halloween! This is your TREAT from me, get it? Just a short one, I'm not good at talking about pinball, even my favorite table of all time! One thing I discovered after I recorded was that the Alfred Hitchcock Presents theme is actually a piece by Gounod called Funeral March of a Marionette, which makes sense. It will make sense to you when you listen, and I thank you for doing that. Have a great day!

Next time I'll be looking at China Syndrome and the Challenge of Nexar by Spectravideo/-vision. I haven't tried these yet so I won't say anything. If you have any thoughts about the games, or any I've already covered (check out Jose's spreadsheet below!), please send them to 2600gamebygame@comcast.net. You can always see what's coming up in the future by checking the calendar over on the blog page, which you may be on right now. Thanks very much for your continued patience and for listening!

Coming up next, the first of many Sesame Street character games from Atari, Oscar's Trash Race. If you have any feedback for the Grouch, please send it to 2600gamebygame@comcast.net by November 14th.

09 Jul 2014Episode 67 - Mouse Trap by Coleco and Lady Bug by Champ Games00:53:41

Hello dere. This week I'm profiling a Coleco Game, Mouse Trap, and what was supposed to be a Coleco game, Lady Bug. Lady Bug is actually a home brew done by Champ Games/John Champeau, it was never released by Coleco back in the 80s despite being advertised and given a part number. See, vaporware has been around forever! I am spending a few days next week with my dad who is visiting from Arizona, so the show will resume on July 23rd with Blackjack, Casino, and Slot Machine by Atari. If you have any feedback for any of these games, or for any games I've already covered, I would love to read or play it on the show! Just send it to 2600gamebygame@comcast.net. Enjoy your Cow Appreciation Day and I'll see you on July 23rd. Thanks for listening!

20 Oct 2022Cookie Monster Munch by Atari01:32:42

Long time no see! Today's episode is about the Atari and Children's Computer Workshop collaboration, Cookie Monster Munch. I loved Cookie Monster when I was a kid (I still do), and I also love cookies, but most cookies actually stay in my mouth, unlike some other monsters I could name. I hope that you enjoy the episode and that it was worth waiting for. Next up will be the very rare Master Builder by Spectravideo. Apparently my episodes covering Spectravideo games are also pretty rare. If you have feedback for Master Builder that does not include its history or how to play it, please send it along to 2600gamebygame@gmail.com by October 31st. On November 4th and 5th, I will once again be participating in Extra Life, to benefit the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. Hopefully I will have my streaming ability together by then. If you would like to donate to the kids, please see the link below. Thank you once again for your patience, and for listening.

Hi there! To-day I discuss Sssnake and Airlock by Data Age, for all of 18 minutes. There just wasn't much to say about these games. Next week I'll be talking about Fire Fighter and Sky Patrol, both by Imagic. Upcoming games will include Math Grand Prix and Raiders of the Lost Ark by Atari, Mega Force and Alien by 20th Century Fox; Star Raiders and Fun With Numbers (Basic Math) by Atari; Assault and Great Escape by Bomb; Chopper Command and Starmaster by Activision; and Hangman and Road Runner by Atari. 01 Aug 2014Episode 68 - Blackjack, Casino and Slot Machine by Atari01:17:37

This week's episode talks about Blackjack, Casino, and Slot Machine by Atari. I apologize for the delay, I am still trying to get over being sick. Thankfully, my dad should be getting out of the hospital on Friday, and again, I thank you all for your patience and your well wishes. It really does mean a lot to me. Next time, since I am a 12 year old boy at heart (as I mention in this episode and should be readily apparent), episode 69 will be about Custer's Revenge, Beat 'Em and Eat 'Em, and Bachelor Party. These are the three Mystique adult games that cause a lot of controversy and at least one lawsuit when they were originally released. I will have a warning at the beginning of the episode and it will also be labeled explicit in iTunes. I realize this will be offensive to some. I don't want to leave these games out because they are part of the game library, so if you are offended by this kind of material or if you listen with your kids, please skip this episode and come back for the Haunted House and Yar's Revenge episode right after this one. As always, if you have any feedback, please send it to me at 2600gamebygame@comcast.net. I am thinking that episode 69 will probably not be out until the 13th; hopefully after that I can go back to once a week, because all of this stuff is driving me crazy. Thank you for listening everyone, see you next time!

I have a schedule for the podcast set up, so I am hoping that the whole process will be streamlined and easier for me to do. This week's episode is going out much earlier than normal, but I did have an extra day off so who knows. This is the first time I am doing a review of a game that I wasn't able to play, being Turbo. There may be more numbered protos coming up that haven't been discovered yet, we shall see. Next week is Video Checkers and Maze Craze by Atari, which should be fun. Upcoming games include He- Man and Loco-motion by M-Network, Cosmic Ark and No Escape! by Imagic, Missile Command and Dodge 'Em by Atari, Space Cavern and Racquetball by Games by Apollo, and Blueprint and Solar Fox by CBS Electronics. This week's episode is about the adult games released by Mystique, Custer's Revenge, Bachelor Party, and Beat 'Em and Eat 'Em. Controversial games all, please be advised that this episode has the explicit tag, so do not listen if you are offended by sex or if there are children anywhere near the mp3 player of choice. Next week will be much safer, it will be about Yar's Revenge and Haunted House, two of the better games that Atari made for their system. If you have any feedback about these two games, please send it along to 2600gamebygame@comcast.net. It should be a fun show. Thank you for listening!
