Here Comes Attila

The Warners sing about Attila the Hun, what he did, and how he died. There's also lots of rhymes with the word "Attila!"

08 Mar 2020172: "The Pinky POV," "The Really Great Dictator," and "Brain Food"00:42:42

Each week, Joey, Nathan and Kelly revisit an episode of Animaniacs, Tiny Toon Adventures, Pinky and the Brain, or Freakazoid! Today the hosts discuss another great episode of Pinky and the Brain! The episode features a look at the world through the eyes of Pinky, a catchy song about World Domination, and some great celebrity parodies. How many water towers will this episode of Pinky and the Brain get? Listen and find out!

The Pinky POV

This episode is unlike any other episode, it's shown completely through the eyes of Pinky! The Brain takes Pinky to Seattle to take over the world. Unfortunately since the audience is inside the brain of Pinky, it's a little unclear as to what Brain's plan really is, but that doesn't really matter. Kelly, Nathan and Joey discuss their favorite moments in this memorable segment.

The Really Great Dictator

The Brain sings a song about world domination in order to reach the masses. The hosts all love this catchy tune!

Brain Food

The Brain has a plan to make humans realize he should be their leader. By simply putting an intelligence boosting substance on their pizza he hopes to boost their intelligence and then take over the world! This plan incorporates celebrity endorsements so the cartoon features lots of celebrity parodies. So many in fact that the hosts have trouble identifying them all!

27 Oct 2019163- Animaniacs Reboot News and New Questions!00:32:31

Each week, Joey, Nathan and Kelly revisit an episode of Animaniacs, Tiny Toon Adventures, Pinky and the Brain, or Freakazoid! Today the hosts discuss some Animaniacs reboot news! Rob Paulsen's book, "Voice Lessons" confirmed that the original voice actors of the Warners are coming back for the reboot. Then, in a recent interview with VO Buzz Weekly, the actors revealed some info about the new series. The Animanicast hosts break it down and give their opinions on what it might all mean!

Animaniacs Reboot News

Rob Paulsen, Tress MacNeille, Jess Harnell and Maurice LaMarche are returning next year as the voices of the Warners and Pinky and the Brain! VO Buzz Weekly recently released a great interview with Rob, Tress and Jess where they discussed the excitement of returning to the new series and they even revealed a few tidbits of information on the series. Tress MacNeille mentioned that she thought  the Warners "say as much" as they did in the original. Later she also mentions that the Warners look a little different and that the people that they interact with look very different.

Joey, Nathan and Kelly  have a discussion on what this might mean and why Warner Bros might be putting off any official announcements or trailers. The hosts talk about how the look of a series has a big effect on people's perceptions of  the show and whether or not they'll like the show. From Yoda in The Phantom Menace to the new designs of the Thundercats in Thundercats Roar, the look of the characters has a huge influence on whether or not the show is accepted by the audience. Will the reboot have a drastically new look? We'll just have to wait and see!

20 Jan 201998a Discussing the Classic Animaniacs Comic Issue 11 "Brain for Brain"00:40:52

Each week, Joey, Nathan and Kelly revisit an episode of Animaniacs in the order in which they first premiered. Today Joey and Nathan get together once again to talk about an Animaniacs comic book! Its issue 11 featuring the Brain using a duplication machine and the Warners traveling to Austria to visit Castle Frankenstein!

Special Giveaway!

Do you want a Goodfeathers QFig signed by Maurice LaMarche, John Mariano, Chick Vennera, and Tom Ruegger? Then just leave a positive 5 star rating and review on Apple Podcasts or iTunes! We will select a one listener review at random at the end of January! Leave your review today and listen later on February 3rd to see if you're the winner!

Brain for Brain

The Brain is tired of Pinky messing up his plans to take over the world so he kicks Pinky out of the lab and uses a duplication ray to create a clone! But "Brain #2" doesn't want to be an assistant and steals the ray. Brain realizes he made a mistake in firing Pinky and begs him to return. Before you know it, there are hundreds of Brains in the lab and they all want Pinky for their assistant! How will Pinky and the Brain get rid of all the duplicates?

Nathan and Joey discuss their favorite moments in this very funny comic. The quality of the art and writing is quite good and the story could have even been good enough to be on TV!

Frankly Frankenstein

The Warners hitch a ride in a crate traveling to Austria and make their way to Castle Frankenstein. The only problem is, Doctor Frankenstein is actually Dr. Frankensniff and he looks a lot like an evil Dr. Scratchansniff. To make things even more confusing Igor looks like Hello Nurse and the Monster looks like Mr. Plotz!

This comic has a surprise ending that is slightly amusing, but doesn't have the gags that one would expect from a Warners cartoon.

22 Apr 201877- Animanicast #77: Discussing Animaniacs "This Pun for Hire," "Star Truck," "Go Fish," and "The Multiplication Song"01:01:42

Each and every week, your hosts revisit an episode of Animaniacs in the order in which they first premiered. They discuss their favorite jokes, gags, and discuss all the cultural references they can find in "This Pun for Hire," "Star Truck," "Go Fish," and "The Multiplication Song!" Joey, Nathan and Kelly go over each segment, as well as discuss Dream Works, Star Trek, playing games alone and math in general.

"This Pun for Hire," "Star Truck," "Go Fish," and "The Multiplication Song"

This Pun for Hire

It’s a tour de force of puns and cameos in this Film Noir Parody. The Warners are on the case from Hello Nurse to find Dr. Scratchansniff, and end up running into Ralph the Guard and Minerva Mink as the plot twists into something else. As the title suggests, there are puns a plenty.  We also get our first cameo from Freakazoid, and another cameo from *gasp* Steven Spielberg! Kelly explains the fast moving plot of the episode, while Nathan and Joey discuss as many jokes and references as possible. Duh, by gad, sir, I claim this segment to be worth listening to.

Star Truck

It’s Animaniacs meets Star Trek, when the Warners find themselves in an episode of their favorite show, Star Truck.  There are so many references to the original show and movies, that there are plenty of jokes for a Trekkie and casual viewer alike. Joey, Nathan, and Kelly go over as many as possible.

Go Fish

Wakko plays Go Fish by himself, but then starts accusing himself of cheating. It’s a great segment, but it does bring up questions of Wakko’s sanity.  Dot might say it best: "I'm worried about the Beaver."

Randy Beaman Segment

It's another story from our favorite kid, Colin.  We also find out what Randy Beaman has been up to for almost thirty years.

Multiplication Song

In a song reminiscent to Tom Lehrer’s ‘New Math’, Yakko explains how to multiple 47 times 83.  It’s more fun than educational, And the hosts have fun discussing their feelings about math

22 Sep 2019160 Animanicast 160: Animaniacs Creator Tom Ruegger Discusses Episodes 16-1900:58:54

http://traffic.libsyn.com/animanicast/160_Tom_Ruegger_Talks_About_Episodes_16-19.mp3

Each week, Joey, Nathan and Kelly revisit an episode of Animaniacs, Tiny Toon Adventures, Pinky and the Brain, or Freakazoid! Today its part two of their discussion with Tom Ruegger  for Animaniacs' 26th Anniversary. Tom talks about episodes 16-19  with the hosts and shares his thoughts about each one.

Episodes 16-19

Today's episode features a discussion of some fantastic episodes of Animaniacs. Highlights include "Chalkboard Bungle," "Hurray for Slappy," "Roll Over Beethoven," "Pavlov's Mice," and "Meatballs or Consequences."

While the episodes all feature some fantastic writing, some segments have questionable animation. The hosts talk to Tom about segments like "Chalkboard Bungle" which is a hilarious cartoon, but looks pretty bad.

The discussion of episode 20 is postponed until a future date. An episode as monumental as "Hearts of Twilight" deserves to have a deep dive. Hopefully with its writer, Paul Rugg!

A Sketch from Tom

Whenever Tom is on the podcast you will probably hear him sketching while talking. Today's sketch features a familiar megalomaniacal mouse you're probably familiar with.

29 Sep 2019161-Animanicast Episode 161 Reviewing Rob Paulsen's "Voice Lessons" and Animaniacs Issue #1701:01:04

Each week, Joey, Nathan and Kelly revisit an episode of Animaniacs, Tiny Toon Adventures, Pinky and the Brain, or Freakazoid! Today the hosts review "Voice Lessons" by Rob Paulsen and then review issue #17 of the classic Animaniacs comic book!

Voice Lessons

Joey, Nathan and Kelly share their thoughts and impressions of Rob Paulsen's upcoming autobiography, "Voice Lessons." The stories found within the pages of the book not only provide a detailed account of what Rob Paulsen did to become a voice actor, but the stories also give us all some lessons in life. Rob demonstrates the importance of optimism and strength in the face of adversity and his recent battle with cancer. The hosts all thoroughly enjoyed the book and can't wait for its release on October 8th so that they can finally read some redacted information from the last chapter!

You can order Rob's book on Amazon HERE or go to Amazon.Animanicast.com

Beauty or the Beast

Yakko, Wakko and Dot are the guest judges for Miss Small Town America but they quickly wreak havoc and become contestants and even take over the MC's position as well. It's a satiric story that has a mixed message, should we be angry at beauty pageants, the contestants, or the male judges? There's also some questionable violence towards the contestants that has the hosts of the show feeling uncomfortable.

Minervadrama

Newt is back to try and catch Minerva for his master. But Newt's plans always fail. The story itself is very similar to Newt's first appearance on the show however their are some parts which seem to be aimed towards adults. (Minerva wants to be handcuffed?)

No Substitute for Laughter

Slappy is making food while Skippy is at school. At least she thinks he's at school. Actually Skippy is hiding from his mean substitute teacher. Slappy goes to confront the teacher and finds out that she used to teach Slappy as well! Will Slappy and Skippy teach the substitute to have a sense of humor? And will the hosts of the show think this story is funny?

17 Dec 201767- Animanicast #67- Discussing "Miami Mama-Mia," "Pigeon on the Roof," and more!01:11:11

Join your hosts Joey, Nathan and Kelly in the "Animanicast!" A podcast dedicated to the classic 90's cartoon show Animaniacs! Today's episode features the Goodfeathers visiting Pesto's mom in "Miami Mama-Mia" and a musical parody of "Fiddler on the Roof" entitled "Pigeon on the Roof."

Filler Segments

This episode has a lot of filler segments, but they're pretty darn good! A couple of Randy Beaman segments, a Mime Time, some Good Idea/Bad Ideas, and a Wheel of Morality are all discussed.

Miami Mama-Mia

The Goodfeathers visit Pesto's mom and are surprised to see she's getting married! Pesto disagrees with the idea so he spends the cartoon trying to give his soon-to-be step dad an "accident" but of course, Pesto is the only one that gets hurt.

The hosts discuss some of their favorite moments in this cartoon. Kelly talks about her love of the show "Sea Quest" since Bobby mentions it in the episode.

Pigeon on the Roof

The Goodfeathers perform a parody of "Fiddler on the Roof" in this cartoon. The Girlfeathers want to be "egg hatchers" so they try to convince the boys to marry them. There's a lot of singing and dancing, and in the end the Goodfeathers get engaged... or do they? There's also a leftover segment from "West Side Pigeons" put in here as well which confuses the plot a little more.

The hosts discuss their favorite moments and samples of the original "Fiddler on the Roof" are played to compare to the Goodfeathers.

18 Mar 201874- Animanicast Episode 74 Discussing Animaniacs "The Kid in the Lid," "Method to Her Madness" and more!00:48:54

Each and every week, your hosts revisit an episode of the series in the order in which they first premiered. They discuss their favorite jokes, gags, and discuss all the cultural references they can find! Today's episode features a parody of "The Lion King," a sequel to "Yakko's World," a tribute to Dr. Seuss, and Slappy gives actors a lesson in real method acting.

The Tiger Prince/All The Words in the English Language/The Kid in the Lid/Method to Her Madness

The Tiger Prince

It’s a surprisingly well done parody of the lion king opening song. Joey, Kelly, and Nathan compare all the shots and lyrics to the motion picture, and discover some unique coincidences.

All The Words in the English Language

Yakko attempts to top his classic song “Yakko’s World” by singing “All the Words in the English Language”.  Dot and Dick Button act as sports announcers as we repeatedly return to see Yakko’s progress in this three part segment. By the end, Yakko is completely exhausted, and collapses before he can finish. Amazingly he pulls out just enough strength to finish the song,

The Kid in the Lid

It’s a Dr. Seuss Parody staring Yakko as the Cat in the Hat, or in this case, the Kid in the Lid. Just like the Cat in the Hat, the Kids are unable to go outside, and their parents are away. This segment even has Dot and Wakko filling in for Thing 1 and Thing 2 as Kid 1 and Kid 2.  The Warners end up destroying the house only to rebuild it after the parents come home. Nathan, Kelly, and Joey talk about Baynarts' name and their favorite rhymes in this Seussian segment.

Method to Her Madness

Skippy is taking a class in the Stanislavski method, and Slappy decides to watch a class.  Skippy is top of the class, but Slappy only sees the same bored expression over and over. Slappy decides to teach everyone real acting which involves comedic timing and comic violence.  This segment has TONS of caricature cameos and Joe, Nathan, and Kelly try to remember them all while discussing their favorite gags.

Rob Paulsen is one of the nicest People on earth

Kelly recalls her first meeting with Rob Paulsen, and Nathan and Joey read off some more listeners emails remembering Rob.

Pinky and the Brain and Larry

Pinky and the Brain are joined by a third mouse-- Larry. Larry goes out with Pinky and the Brain in their latest scheme to take over the world but ends up becoming a hindrance more than being helpful. Larry leaves but is later replaced by another third wheel-- Zeppo.

Where the Deer and the Mouselope Play

The Brain needs to take over the steel industry of Pittsburgh and getting all the humans out of the way. He and Pinky pose as endangered "mouselopes" and seek their native land of Pittsburgh as reparations. There's tons of political and pop culture references in this episode and Joey, Nathan and Kelly dig through as much as they can!

Guest Appearance: Charles M. Howell IV

Pinky and the Brain writer amd producer Charles M. Howell IV comes on to discuss how "Pinky and the Brain and Larry" came about. In many ways, this episode was a response to the demands of some Warner Bros executives. He also talks about the challenges of creating the variant theme song in this episode.

11 Aug 2019156: Discussing Freakazoid: "And Fanboy is His Name"00:58:54

Each week, Joey, Nathan and Kelly revisit an episode of Animaniacs, Tiny Toon Adventures, Pinky and the Brain, or Freakazoid! Today, your hosts talk about Freakazoid Episode four featuring the segments "And Fanboy is His Name," "The Lawn Gnomes" and some silly Freakazoid segments.

Poseidon Adventure Parody

A giant wave... of hair is approaching the Poseidon cruise ship! It's Freakazoid, and he wants you to watch the show!

And Fanboy is His Name

A fan-favorite segment of Freakazoid, this is our first introduction to Fanboy as he desperately tries to convince Freakazoid to let him be his new sidekick. This segment gives us one of the world’s longest spit takes, and Luke Skywalker himself, Mark Hamill! It also has plenty of other things for the hosts to geek out about.

Lawn Gnomes Chapter IV: Fun in the Sun

This is a controversial segment of Freakazoid, in that you either don’t like it or you REALLY don’t like it.  Or maybe you DO like it. The point is, this is your ONLY chance to hear about this one off segment of the Lawn Gnomes.  There are plenty of interesting things to discover about this segment, including the wide variety of famous voice actors as well as the true identity of the mysterious director Turk Flipnutt… maybe?

Frenching with Freakazoid

In the closing segment, Freakazoid teaches some essential French phrases. Namely, how to ask “Who cut the cheese?”

Wakko's 2-Note Song

Dr. Scratchansniff is taking the Warners for a car ride, as Wakko begins playing the same two notes on his accordion.  At first Dr. Scratchansniff hates the noise, but by the end he loves the music! There’s plenty for the hosts to talk about in this segment, and the tune is quite catchy.

Panama Canal

It’s an educational song from Yakko all about the Panama Canal.  As a teacher, Joey is able to help decide if this is classroom appropriate, while Kelly and Nathan discuss what they have learned.

Hello Nurse

Wakko takes the lead in this song praising Hello Nurse for things other than her beauty.  In this song we found out the Hello Nurse is actually a genius, with several PhDs and other flattering attributes. The hosts discuss their favorite moments as well as the similarities to Roger Rabbit!

The Ballad of Magellan

Another classic educational song, where the Warners teach us all about the Explorer Magellan.  The hosts discuss their favorite moments, and everything they know about the real Magellan

The Return of the Great Wakkorotti

The Great Wakkorotti is back but is unable to burp, after losing his voice. Luckily he has a little trick up his sleeve. Music never smelled so sweet in this rendetion of a classic nutcracker song. Joey, Nathan, and Kelly discuss the segment and how it compares to the other Wakkorottis we’ve seen.

The Big Wrap Party Tonight

The perfect song to close out the season.  This song almost certainly has the most cameos of any Animaniacs song, with nearly every Animaniacs character as well as a few Looney Tunes and Tiny Toons Characters. Joey tries to name all the celebrities and Kelly gets excited about one in particular.

28 Jul 2019155- The Animanicast DIscusses "Brainie the Poo" and "The Melancholy Brain"01:10:06

Each week, Joey, Nathan and Kelly revisit an episode of Animaniacs, Tiny Toon Adventures, Pinky and the Brain, or Freakazoid! Today your hosts discuss episode 51 from the third season of Pinky and the Brain featuring the segments, "Brainie the Poo" and "The Melancholy Brain." How many water towers will this episode receive?

The Megalomaniacal Adventures of Brainie the Poo

In this parody of "The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh," Brainie and Pinklet are in search of some honey for their latest plan to replace all the artificial sweeteners in the world with real sugar. They just need to find a way to get into the honey tree which is protected by angry bees. Along the way they run into Christopher (Walken), "Jagger," "Algore" and even a tiny Bea Arthur. This episode has a lot of funny jokes and some pretty obscure references! It also features John Rhys Davies as the narrator!

The Melancholy Brain

Pinky and the Brain want to sew the seeds of discord to take over Denmark and eventually all of Scandinavia! The Brain drives Hamlet mad, convinces the King that Hamlet is trying to take over the throne, and even tries to talk the Queen into becoming suspicious of her husband and Hamlet! It all leads up to a sword fight, a dramatic death scene, and a twist ending! This cartoon also features Carey Elwes, Clive Revill and Olivia Hussey lending their voices to the Shakespearean characters.

Wrestlemaniacs

Yakko, Wakko and Dot head down to the convention center to check out their favorite rock band, Kiss! Unfortunately the WWWF is there instead and they're there to wrestle! The Mean, Green Monster Brain Machine

Pinky and the Brain need a laser to transfer funds into a Swiss bank account. Then the two hear about a monster truck rally coming to town which has a giant laser! What's the best way to get their hands on this laser? Why, by fixing up an old truck and entering the rally of course! Will the Brain finally get to take over the world this SUNDAY, SUNDAY, SUNDAY? Well, no. But listen anyway to find out how he fails!

19 May 2019147- Animanicast Episode 147: Discussing Tiny Toons Music Television01:12:00

Each week, Joey, Nathan and Kelly revisit an episode of Animaniacs, Tiny Toon Adventures, Pinky and the Brain, or Freakazoid! Today, your hosts talk about another of Kelly's favorite episodes of Tiny Toon Adventures entitled "Tiny Toons Music Television."  The three talk about each segment in today's episode and then give the episode a water tower rating!

Tiny Toons Music Television

Throughout today's episode Buster and Babs introduce each segment as the resident VJs of Tiny Toons Music Television. They show us a wall of phones, we meet Julie Bruin, and we get to see the one and only Fuddonna!

Istanbul (Not Constantinople)

In the first segment of Tiny Toons Music Television, Plucky is sent on a mission to rescue a jade duck statue that looks a lot like Plucky himself. He sets out with Hamton to steal the statue back from Montana Max and his goons only to be chased back through the desert on camels. Unfortunately Plucky breaks the statue as soon as he gets his reward (or his reward gets him.)

This video is sung by the band They Might Be Giants but they weren't the first ones to sing it! The hosts discuss their favorite moments in the cartoon and in this song.

Particle Man

Plucky is Particle Man and he is in the wresting ring going up against Triangle Man, Universe Man and even the Crusher when he changes outfits from Particle Man to Person Man. Plucky tries to face off against the three foes but he doesn't stand a chance.

This second song from They Might Be Giants features some great action and animation. The hosts reflect on this cartoon and on their shared love of They Might Be Giants.

Respect

Babs is singing to Aretha Franklin's classic hit "Respect" in a library, a court room, a funeral and an operating room! The ones she bothers however get back at her so that they can be respected.

This cartoon has lots of writers and animators in the background! Plus a cameo from Batman (sorta.)

Money (That's What I Want)

Montana Max sings about money and how much he wants it. In the end though, he has nothing and Joey actually feels sorry for him. This video has lots of energy, great animation and Ralph the Guard?

Top Secret Apprentice

In this instrumental salute to "The Sorcerer's Apprentice," Bugs Bunny is working on the new computer animation wing of ACME Looniversity. While he's away, Buster jumps onto the controls but quickly falls asleep. Buster dreams of flying through space, swimming through the ocean, flying on flies and going into the past to the age of dinosaurs. Buster's imagination almost gets out of hand!

This instrumental segment of Tiny Toons Music Television features impressive animation, great action and an awkward ending that the hosts don't really like.

02 Dec 201896- Discussing Animaniacs Episode 96 "Hooray for North Hollywood" Part Two00:56:13

Each week, Joey, Nathan and Kelly revisit an episode of Animaniacs in the order in which they first premiered. They discuss their favorite jokes, gags, and discuss all the cultural references they can find. Today the hosts discuss "Hooray for North Hollywood" Part Two. The Warners are successful! They make their own movie but unfortunately for Thaddeus Plotz, it's not with Warner Bros. Plotz gets fired and it's up to the Warners to save him.

L.A. Dot

We are given a preview of the Warner's film and get to see the big musical number! Dot mistakes a bus with LADOT written on it as a salute to her being in Los Angeles and the cutest celebrity in Hollywood. A sample of the original draft of the song is played from Animaniacs in Concert. You can see the full video here or by going to the Animanicast YouTube page.

You Gotta Do the Schmooze

While waiting to see Mr Plotz, the Warners teach Wakko the art of schmoozing people in Hollywood to get what you want. Wakko doesn’t quite get it, which leads to some funny lyrics and explanations.

It's New Years Eve

The Warners save Mr. Plotz from homelessness and celebrate the New Year with a fun song. Kelly and Joey discuss some of the celebrity cameos while Nathan proposes that the entire second act might be some sort of inception scenario!

08 Nov 2020191- Talkin' Tiny Toons and Freakazoid Episode 1000:52:35

Join your hosts Joey, Nathan and Kelly in the "Animanicast!" A podcast dedicated to Animaniacs and its sister shows in the "Rueggerverse." Today the hosts review another episode of Freakazoid featuring the segments "In Arms Way" and "The Cloud." How many water towers will this episode of Freakazoid get?

Tiny Toons Looniversity

It was recently announced that Tiny Toon Adventures would be rebooted with a two season order on HBO Max. Joey runs through some of the details and the unfortunate news that the creator of Tiny Toons, Tom Ruegger, was not asked to return. While acknowledging the need for some new writers and artists, Joey also expresses his disappointment in the overall situation. He suggests writing a respectful letter to Mr. Spielberg if any listeners feel that Tom should be given an opportunity to have some sort of role in the new series.

Mr. Steven Spielberg

100 Universal City Plaza

Bldg. 5121

Universal City, CA 91608

In Arms Way

It’s another Christmas episode of Freakazoid as he looks for presents for his friends.  Meanwhile, Arms Akimbo is selling "Oops! Insurance" and terrorizing anyone who refuses to pay the premium. Nathan describes the segment and gets some great gift ideas to give to Joey and Kelly for Christmas.

The Cloud

Kelly describes what happens in this segment following Freakazoid’s trip to a European village, where a mysterious cloud is turning mountain hikers into clowns. Freakazoid meets his friend Professor Heiny to discuss the new developments to Disneyland and to get to the bottom of the strange phenomenon.

13 Jan 201998- Animanicast: Discussing "The Christmas Tree" and "The Prom" and "Punchline" from Animaniacs Episode 9800:56:32

Each week, Joey, Nathan and Kelly revisit an episode of Animaniacs in the order in which they first premiered. Today your hosts discuss episode 98 of Animaniacs which features the segments "The Christmas Tree" and "The Prom" and "Punchline."

The Christmas Tree

It's the last cartoon featuring Slappy Squirrel on Animaniacs! In this final outing, Slappy finds out that her tree has been cut down and erected in Rocky Fellow Center in New York! How will she get her tree back to the forest? There are a lot of other questions in this final Slappy cartoon. Her behavior is different than usual and her tree house is completely different! The hosts share their theories on why this might be and discuss their favorite moments in this final Slappy cartoon.

Punchline (Part One and Two)

Chicken Boo is on Punchline as a guest commentator. The question to the panel is "Why did the chicken cross the road?" Luckily there are other Animaniacs characters who have theories including Pinky and the Brain and the Goodfeathers. The Brain has some pretty far out theories while Pinky can see that Chicken Boo is a chicken in disguise. Does this prove the theory that Pinky is the genius and the Brain is insane?

The Prom

It's the final Katie Ka-Boom cartoon and the first and last time that her father stands up to her monster alter-ego. Was this Katie Ka-Boom cartoon funnier than previous episodes, or a dud?

28 Jan 201870a- Animanicast Episode 70a Fan Reactions to Wellesley Wild Hired as Showrunner for Animaniacs Reboot00:54:40

Each and every week, your hosts revisit an episode of the series in the order in which they first premiered. They discuss their favorite jokes, gags, and discuss all the cultural references they can find! Today's special episode features more discussion of the upcoming reboot of Animaniacs, specifically the news that Wellesley Wild from Family Guy fame will be the new showrunner and executive producer. Afterwards, Nathan and Joey review issue #3 of the Animaniacs comic book.

Wellesley Wild Announced as Animaniacs Showrunner

Wellesley Wild was recently announced as the new showrunner for the upcoming Animaniacs reboot. This news created an uproar among Animaniacs fans that wanted to see the creator, Tom Ruegger, return to the series. Joey, Nathan, and Kelly share some of the reactions from the Animanicast's Facebook feed, Twitter feed, as well as a couple emails.

One of our listeners, Malik, thinks that the writing team might end up consisting of all new writers from SNL or other franchises seen as cutting edge. This leads Joey to wonder if, much like the recently rebooted Ducktales, the voice cast of the rebooted show will consist of new actors from SNL or similar shows. The recent Ducktales reboot and upcoming Ninja Turtles show has done it. At this point, anything seems possible. Especially since the voice cast has not been announced yet!

Kelly points out that the decisions made so far do not seem to make sense from a creative or financial level. Animaniacs was successful in part because people like Tom Ruegger put their heart and soul into the original show. The decisions so far have alienated many fans and left others confused and often upset. She concludes by saying that Animaniacs without Tom Ruegger would be like the Muppets without Jim Henson. The Muppets just haven't felt the same after Henson passed away. Not having Tom involved in at least a consultant role seems like a bad mistake. If the executives want the show to feel like the original in any way, it would make sense for Tom and his original writers to have an active role in this reboot.

While it is extremely disappointing that Tom Ruegger has not yet been confirmed to be involved in the upcoming series there  is still some time! There are a few things that Animaniacs fans can do if they would like to see him and the original writing staff involved. The key is to do these things now. If fans wait much longer, it may be too late!

  • Stay active and speak out on social media in a positive and proactive way. Let Warner Bros. and Amblin know that you are concerned about the decisions that have been announced.

Animaniacs Comic #3

Afterwards, Joey and Nathan review and discuss issue #3 of the Animaniacs comic book. Stories include, "Rewriting History," " Coco Anyone?" and  "Guitars and Cadillacs." It's a pretty good issue, Nathan and Joey particularly like a couple of panels.

28 Feb 2021208: Animaniacs Reboot Episode Thirteen!00:57:30

It's time for the Animanicast with another Animaniacs reboot discussion!

The Animanicast finishes their season one reboot episode reviews with a discussion of the thirteenth episode! Dr. Scratchansniff needs some soda, Pinky and the Brain go on a road trip against their will and Dot sorta sings about the first ladies! How many water towers will this episode get?

Hindenberg Cola

Dr. S. is sick and needs the Warners to find some special German soda for his belly. The trio run into a foe from a previous episode but are still able to bring the soda back to the doctor. Unfortunately Dr. Scratchansniff is not the old Dr. S. from the original series.

Roadent Trip

The Brain has designed a "Model B" car to trap everyone inside their vehicles. Unfortunately Pinky and the Brain get trapped inside it instead and are taken on a hazardous road trip across the United States. Brain also reveals a sad and dark origin story before they are able to escape. Also, there's a song about a banana hammock.

FLOTUS, FLOTUS: What Do You Know About Us?

Dot attempts to sing about all the first ladies in just two minutes. Unfortunately the song misses one and the hosts of the Animanicast don't appreciate it's lack of focus and how it really should not be used in education.

Patreon Exclusives for the Week

09 Oct 201618- Animanicast Episode 18- "Pavlov's Mice," "Chicken Boo-Ryshnikov" and "Nothing but the Tooth"01:02:17

Each and every week, your hosts revisit an episode of the series in the order in which they first premiered. They discuss their favorite jokes, gags, and discuss all the cultural references they can find! Each episode is given a "Water Tower Rating" by the hosts. How many water towers will this episode get? This "content rich" eighteenth episode has a Russian theme throughout and features Pinky and the Brain, the premiere of Chicken Boo, and the Warners terrorizing the "mad monk" Rasputin!

13 Dec 2020197: Reviewing Episode 4 of the Animaniacs Reboot00:58:32

It's time for the Animanicast! Discussing the fourth episode of the reboot!

Joey, Nathan and Kelly continue their discussion and review of the Animaniacs reboot. This time they talk about the fourth episode featuring the segments: "Bun Control," "Ex Mousina" and "Bloopf." Listen to hear about all the references you may have missed and find out what the hosts of the Animanicast think about this episode!

Bun Control

The Warner Bros Studio is visited by salesman Dwayne Lapistol who is handing out bunnies. These "buns" get out of hand very quickly however and before you know it, they've taken over the studio! The Warners try to defeat Lapistol with a cool Anime sequence but end up having to call Australia to control the bun problem. This thinly veiled metaphor for gun control has a few humorous moments and an incredibly disturbing villain. But will the hosts of the Animanicast enjoy it? One of the Animanicast's Australian listeners, "yakkomon" explains some of the Austrailian references found in this episode.

Ex Mousina

Brain creates a son named Binary Rodent Artificially Intelligent Nanotechnology, or B.R.A.I.N. for short. B.R.A.I.N. helps Brain steal the crown jewels, but after he sees that his father's ego is getting in the way, he decides to remove Pinky and the Brain from the equation.

Bloopf

The Warners premiere a new app that appears to be parodying Quibi.

Each and every week, Joey, Nathan and Kelly revisit an episode of Animaniacs in the order in which they first premiered. They discuss their favorite jokes, gags, and discuss all the cultural references they can find in "Soccer Coach Slappy," "Belly Button Blues," "Our Final Space Cartoon, We Promise," and "Valuable Lesson."

Soccer Coach Slappy/Belly Button Blues/Our Final Space Cartoon, We Promise/Valuable Lesson

Soccer Coach Slappy

Slappy has volunteered to coach Skippy's soccer team. Unfortunately she knows nothing about the sport and Skippy doesn't know how to play without getting hit by the ball! Slappy figures out a solution in the end and gets Skippy to really use his head! The hosts discuss this episode despite the fact that they know almost nothing about sports.

Belly Button Blues

Katie Ka-Boom is back. She wants to wear a shirt that shows off her belly button and freaks out when her family doesn't like it. She turns into a monster before going back to normal. The house falls down. Haven't we seen this before?

Our Final Space Cartoon, We Promise

After discussing the bumper segments which feature send ups to "2001: A Space Odyssey," the hosts discuss "Our Last Space Cartoon, We Promise" which features the Warners going up against the AL 5000. The hosts discuss their favorite moments of these segments and what they like about the original movie "2001."

Valuable Lesson

The Warners are being pursued by a very angry Attila the Hun before they are snatched up by the network censors who try to show them why Animaniacs shouldn't be so violent! Attila however comes in at the last moment and helps the Warners out. The hosts discuss their favorite moments and gags in this funny cartoon.

16 Nov 2020192- Freakazoid on TTG and Animaniacs Reboot First Impressions00:49:19

It's time for the Animanicast! Discussing Freakazoid on TTG and the Animaniacs Reboot!

Freakazoid had an apperance on Teen Titans Go! Joey, Nathan and Kelly do a quick review of the episode and talk about all of the references that they saw. Then the hosts discuss their initial thoughts after seeing five episodes of the new Animaniacs Reboot! What works? What doesn't? Will fans like the show? Find out what they think on today's episode!

Freakazoid on Teen Titans Go "Huggbees"

The Teen Titans are on a mission to stop "The Brain" from teaming up with the Lobe! In order to do it they unleash Freakazoid along with announcer Joe Leahy! Even Cosgrove (voiced by Ed Asner) returns to talk to Freakazoid all about different donuts. What's the plot? It's not important! What is important is comedy in this love letter to Freakazoid!

Animaniacs Reboot Talk

The hosts of the Animanicast were fortunate enough to see five episodes of the upcoming series. Without giving plot points away, the hosts talk about some of the aspects of the show they like and some of the things they don't. Overall they think that the show is good, although the episodes they saw didn't showcase much "timeless" content and might have provided too much commentary on current social events. While the hosts got used to the new designs of the Warners and animation style, the character designs of the humans can sometimes be distracting. One thing they all love is the music by Steve and Julie Bernstein (who by the way will be on our next episode!) In the end, the hosts worry that the internet is about to explode with positive and negative reactions to the show and ask that everyone is simply respectful of different opinions.

29 Apr 201877a- Animanicast #77a: Discussing the Music of Animaniacs with Tom Ruegger and Randy Rogel01:10:50

Each and every week, your hosts revisit an episode of the series in the order in which they first premiered. They discuss their favorite jokes, gags, and discuss all the cultural references they can find! In this special episode, Joey, Nathan and Kelly welcome back Tom Ruegger as well as the incredibly talented Randy Rogel who wrote some of the most iconic songs from Animaniacs!

Discussing the Music of Animaniacs with Tom Ruegger and Randy Rogel

Richard Stone and the Orchestration of Animaniacs

Tom and Randy discuss their song writing process and what it was like to collaborate with Richard Stone and other composers working on Animaniacs such as Steve and Julie Bernstein. Randy talks about the writing process and the excitement of seeing a full orchestra perform the songs that he wrote. Randy states that "The music was born at the podium."

Some of the show's musical parodies are also discussed including "Les Miseranimals" which was so close to the original "Les Miserables"  that at one point Tom was certain that they would all get sued!

Tom Ruegger mentions that he heard that the newest incarnation of Animaniacs will continue to use a live orchestra which is very rare in today's world.

Yakko's World

Tom and Randy discuss Randy's first song he wrote for Animaniacs, "Yakko's World!" Tom marvels at the complexity of the song and talks about how it started off as a song involving Yakko wearing different hats of the world and eventually turned into

Influences

Randy and Tom talk about their musical influences. Tom's influences are eclectic and include everything from Rock n' Roll to TV theme songs. Randy talks about his background in musical theater and how it influenced his writing. Randy's performance in "Singin' in the Rain" is discussed as well as how the satirical compositions of Tom Lehrer had an influence on his writing.

Soundtracks and Alternative Lyrics

Randy and Tom talk about the difference between lyrics on the show versus the show's soundtracks. Randy talks about the time his song "A Quake! A Quake!" was re-recorded for the soundtrack "Yakko's World" and how he scrambled over to Tom's office to try to stop his lyrics from being changed!

Animaniacs in Concert!

Randy talks about working with Rob Paulsen and performing the songs of Animaniacs in front of a live audience. Randy and Rob have toured across the country and will have a eight shows coming up at Joe's Pub in New York. Cody Ruegger is also set to appear for one of the shows as well! For more information, go to AnimaniacsLive.com!

07 Oct 201891- Animanicast episode 91 Discussing Animaniacs Back in Style and Bones in the Body01:02:59

Each week, Joey, Nathan and Kelly revisit an episode of Animaniacs in the order in which they first premiered. They discuss their favorite jokes, gags, and discuss all the cultural references they can find. Today, Joey, Kelly and Nathan discuss Animaniacs episode 91 which features the segments

Animaniacs News

Joey summarizes some of the most recent news regarding the Animaniacs reboot. A selection from a recent Rob Paulsen interview is read in which Rob reveals that the new series will premiere in the Fall of 2020 and will consist of 26 episodes. Rob also drops some big hints that he is involved in the new series. Rob also confirmed in a recent "Kids React" video that Randy Rogel is returning and has already written some songs for the show. The hosts share their thoughts on the news and while they are very happy that Steven Spielberg is said to be heavily involved, they still find it confusing that Tom Ruegger was not asked to return to the show.

Back in Style

After quickly discussing a "Message in a Bottle" sequence, the hosts discuss "Back in Style" in which we are shown how the Warners were loaned out to different animation companies over the decades when the Warner Bros. studio closed their animation department. The Warners interact and harass parodies of Yogi Bear, Scooby Doo, Underdog, and Fat Albert. The hosts discuss their favorite gags and their memories of watching some of the cartoons that are parodied.

Bones in the Body

Mr. Skullhead is camping with the Warners in the Old West. Before you know it, the Warners take us on a tour of the skeleton by singing a song. This song by Randy Rogel is very catchy, educational and marks the last major appearance of Mr. Skullhead.

07 Jan 201868b- Animanicast #68b: Animaniacs is Getting Rebooted, but Will the Original Creative Staff Return?00:25:45

Each and every week, your hosts revisit an episode of the series in the order in which they first premiered. They discuss their favorite jokes, gags, and discuss all the cultural references they can find! Today's special episode features a discussion of the upcoming reboot of Animaniacs, thoughts from the hosts of the Animanicast, and some statements from some of the original writers of Animaniacs.

Hulu's Press Release and Reactions

Animaniacs is back on streaming media! Following its successful run on Netflix in 2017, and rumors of a possible reboot in May of 2017, it was announced on January 4th, 2018 that Warner Bros. and Amblin Entertainment had reached a deal with Hulu to stream classic episodes of the series along with classic episodes of Tiny Toon Adventures, Pinky and the Brain, and Pinky, Elmyra and the Brain. In addition to this, the highly anticipated reboot of the series is scheduled to premiere in 2020 exclusively on Hulu. Two new seasons of the show have been ordered.

The classic episodes of Animaniacs, et al. are all available right now on Hulu for your enjoyment!

Joey, Nathan and Kelly read the official statements from Hulu, Warner Bros, and Steven Spielberg before having a brief discussion of what they hope to see in the future seasons of Animaniacs. Animation style, voice actors, as well as retaining the original creators and writers of the show are all discussed.

In a late breaking addition, it appears that the original writers and creators of Animaniacs have not yet been asked to return to the series. This is very disappointing news and, while it could change, it puts a damper on much of the excitement that the initial reboot announcement has created. We will share more news as it develops on our Twitter and Facebook accounts.

What Do You Think?

Are you excited about the return of Animaniacs? Anxious? Maybe a little of both? Let us know your thoughts by sending an email to animanicast@retrozap.com. You can write up your thoughts or send us a voice message via mp3 or other sound file. Who knows? You might hear your thoughts on an upcoming episode!

02 Sep 201889- Animanicast Episode 89 Discussing "Ten Short Films About Wakko Warner" and much more from Animaniacs Episode 8900:39:05

Each and every week, Joey, Nathan and Kelly revisit an episode of Animaniacs in the order in which they first premiered. They discuss their favorite jokes, gags, and discuss all the cultural references they can find. Today the Joey, Nathan, and Kelly discuss and review episode 89 of Animaniacs!

The hosts of the Animanicast discuss episode 89 of Animaniacs. First Wakko stars in "Ten Short Films," then two birds find out they have "No Time for Love," and finally Chicken Boo saves Warner Bros. with "The Boo Network."

News

For the upcoming 25th Anniversary of Animaniacs, we will be welcoming Tom Ruegger back to our show and Sherri Stoner will be joining him! Have questions for either one of them? Send them to animanicast@retrozap.com

The entire series of Animaniacs is being collected on a massive DVD set. All 99 episodes, plus "Wakko's Wish" will be included. To reserve your own copy, go to Amazon.Animanicast.com

Ten Short Films About Wakko Warner

Wakko is the subject of ten short films. Some films are incredibly short and others feel like they could have extended to full length cartoons. The hosts discuss their favorite moments and which segments they feel could be extended.

No Time for Love

A cuckoo bird comes out of his clock and falls in love with a canary. The cuckoo clock bird attempts in vain to be with her. Eventually they do end up living together in the cuckoo clock. Frank Welker voices both of the main characters in this sweet cartoon.

The Boo Network

The WB network is in trouble so Thaddeus Plotz hires Chicken Boo to come up with a new lineup. What follows is an assortment of chicken themed shows such as "Sixty Clucks" and "The Egg Files." This is one of the longest Chicken Boo segments and while it is longer, it's still very funny. Eventually Boo is revealed to be a chicken however after everyone rips his clothes off!
