09 Feb 202235 ⎸ How To Run Your Business in 10 Hours Per Week with Neill Williams00:46:25

Send us a text

In this interview episode, I am talking with Neill Williams, a Master Certified Life Coach through The Life Coach School, specializing in Time, $$, and Business. She is the host of The Unbusy Your Life podcast and creator of the $10K in 10 Hours Mastermind.

Only after ditching her own belief that success was measured by the number of hours worked was Neill able to achieve true lifestyle freedom while juggling her roles as a mom, wife, Master Certified Coach, entrepreneur and employee. Now she helps coaches build their side hustle coaching businesses in 10 hours a week.

We talk about:

  1. How you can cut your hours back in corporate by delivering a result in less time
  2. The two things you must understand in order to be able to build and run a business in 10 hours a week
  3. When perfectionism is okay
  4. and of course, a lot more to help you in your journey of business and transitioning out of corporate culture!

20 Feb 2022[BONUS] Bookkeeper Spotlights00:38:04

Send us a text

Hey Ambitious Bookkeepers! Today we're dropping a special Bonus episode to help inspire you if you're new to the thought of starting your own business, or you've recently made the decision to. A couple times a year, we open The Bookkeeping Biz Workshops — a workshop series just for those who are wanting to start or who have recently started their businesses. After the workshops are over, I usually bring in a few bookkeepers who I've worked with either in the Workshops or In The Accelerator program I have and I interview them about their journey of starting their businesses.

I've never shared these outside of the workshops, so as a podcast listener, you're getting a sneak peak into what you might experience inside of the workshops or my other programs.

I hope these interviews inspire you to take action—in whatever way that is, big or small: deciding to quit your job, or even just declaring that you will start your business and joining us in the upcoming workshops.

Like I said, these are interviews from the last round of workshops in 2021, so if you want to hear the new stories that will be showcased in this new round, make sure you sign up.

First I'll be interviewing Erin Pohan, an accountant, mom, and the owner of Upkeeping.

Next you're going to hear from Misa, who was in my very first cohort of BBA, when it was a brand new program. I'll always hold a special place in my heart for my first cohort, as they've been along for the ride since the beginning. And as you'll hear from both ladies, the community we've built is one of the best parts.

I hope these interviews inspire you as much as they do me, and their words of wisdom help you in some way.

09 Mar 202239 ⎸ Accounting + Human Design with Laura Torma00:44:24

Send us a text

In this interview episode this week, I am interviewing one of my very first students of the bookkeeping business accelerator, but we do kind of talk about the beginning of us meeting. However, what I did bring this special guest on today to talk about is

  1. burnout
  2. boundaries
  3. using your intuition
  4. how to incorporate your human design into how you exist in your business and in life.

Our guest, Laura Torma, previously known as Laura Watson, the number's nomad, is an intuitive life and business strategist.

She used to be a CPA who worked with countless clients and accountants, and she has taken her experience and melded it with spiritual systems, such as human design to help all people come into the gift of who they are.

I am so excited to have you listening to this conversation with Laura, and I hope that you take away something, if not, lots of things from this episode.

11 May 202248 ⎸ Be a Digital CEO with James Wedmore01:04:57

Send us a text

For 10 years, James Wedmore taught entrepreneurs and online business owners how to leverage the power of online video and YouTube marketing to reach more people, share their message and convert more customers. In 2016, James made a massive shift to focus on a big gap missing in the marketplace: the mindset needed for entrepreneurship. He launched a totally woo-woo podcast, the Mind Your Business Podcast and his signature program, Business By Design. Today he helps coaches, experts, content creators, and authors not only to craft better marketing messages but also how to ditch the “hustle” mentality and create success from the inside out.

James and his program, Business By Design were instrumental in me launching and growing The Ambitious Bookkeeper programs to what they are today. If you like my teaching style, I think you’ll love his, too!

Listen to this episode to learn:

  • how to become a digital CEO (and what that is)
  • how to bring more value to your clients (from the mouth of a multi-million dollar CEO himself
  • how to get started offering digital products (like courses or group programs)
  • and more

14 Dec 202278 ⎸ Core Values to Run Your Business on00:50:38

Send us a text

This week on the podcast I have my right hand & resident leadership coach, Meriah on the podcast and we’re talking all about core values, mission, and vision for your business as a way to build the culture (and business) you want to have.

Even if you don’t plan on having a large team (or a team at all), this work is still imperative.

It took me years to nail down my Vision, Mission, and Values, and truth be told, they’ll likely continue to morph. But Woweeeeee has this helped us build an A-team! ✨

And I’m so freakin grateful for the culture we’ve built.

In this episode you’ll hear:

  • how we’re doing it
  • a sneak peak of our actual vision & mission of the firm
  • and as I’m writing this list I’m not sure we actually shared our core values but you can find them HERE.

Send us a text

This week we welcome back a good friend of mine and repeat guest - Alyssa Lang, the Workflow Queen, to talk about choosing a marketing strategy that’s right for you.

In this episode you’ll hear:

  • Alyssa’s current marketing campaign for her bookkeeping firm
  • My current marketing strategy
  • Comparing and contrasting why we both chose these differing strategies

About our guest

Alyssa, aka the Workflow Queen, teaches bookkeepers and accountants how to utilize tech and automation to create better workflows, systems and processes. As a result they can run their practices on autopilot, stress less and save time!

After being in the accounting world for five years, Alyssa struggled with streamlining her practice. She felt frustrated and nervous and couldn't sleep at night not knowing where her client work would come from. She was overwhelmed by all the daily tasks, lost track of work and just couldn't keep up.

Alyssa hit a wall and decided to make a change, so she started to automate her practice by creating workflows, systems and processes. She was then able to run her practice and take on more clients, scale and provide excellent service in the process!

These days Alyssa’s a full-time educator. She’s also an Asana Certified Pro and her courses and resources have helped hundreds of bookkeepers and accountants worldwide!

Katie Toscano & Ashley Meripol are former corporate accountants, turned operations & project managers who found a love for helping the accounting business owner community. They were tired of seeing their accounting friends work ridiculous hours, sacrificing time with family, stress & overwhelm just because that’s the way it’s always been. Ashley & Katie have a serious love for all things systems, organization, technology and business, and are passionate about the "anti-hustle" life of working smarter not harder, and taking those Saturdays off.

  • best practices for ensuring security when using cloud services
  • various use cases for implementing Scrutinize

Resources mentioned in this episode:

About John:

My name is John. I grew in a small town in north Texas and moved to Austin at 17 with plans to be a rockstar guitar player. It turns out you actually have to practice to be a rockstar, so that fell through. After spending a few years idling about, I decided to get serious and finished my BA in Finance at St. Edward's University.

I spent most of my career in various roles across the accounting and finance functions, learning as much as I could about how to use data to drive more strategic decisions that led to better outcomes for the businesses I worked with. In 2018 I started my own fractional CFO and bookkeeping firm, which is where I ran into the idea that eventually became my current focus - Scrutinize - which is a platform we built to provide bookkeeping quality assurance by automating ledger reviews.

I still live in Austin, TX with my wife, son, and dopey Staffy.

Upon returning back from overseas she was hired by an accounting company to work as both an accountant and marketer.

She found combining her two favorite industries wasn’t just possible but needed, Kristen decided to start a creative agency dedicated to helping accounting firms.
