Larry didn't like getting stuck on guard duty out in the insurgent compound’s courtyard. He didn't like the cold, the wind, and the snow. Larry was pretty sure he was going to freeze his ass off before his shift was over. Still, there was hope, because Larry had two very important things that were going to make this day alright: 1- A cup of piping hot coffee and 2- A fresh and delicious bear claw. Larry held up the bear claw ready to take that wondrous first bite of fresh pastry that would make him forget about his shitty luck...and then the Player Characters showed up.

The squad of brave Colonial Marines have stormed the outer courtyard of the insurgent base but now must fight their way in against a tenacious foe. Private Z, Chaplain, and Captain Silva maintain overwatch of the courtyard and the captured bear claw. PVT Hammer and PFC Dante tangle with insurgents hell bent on dying for their cause while SGT Iona and Gunnery SGT Mason find the last of the AWOL marines and the new face of alien horror.

The brave squad of Colonial Marines must face an alien/human hybrid while securing the rest of the insurgent compound. The marines capture a high value prisoner who may hold some answers as to why their fellow marines went AWOL and why they have become infected with some alien DNA, but before they can interrogate them all hell breaks loose as the UPP begins their invasion.

The squad of brave Colonial Marines descends deeper into Sub-Level 3 beneath Ft. Nebraska as they race against time to both save PFC Dante and to escape the planet before the bomb they planted on the nuclear munitions goes off. But first they must restore power to the facility.

The Marines are about to uncover the terrible truth of what the aliens have been up to and to come face to face with the most deadly alien variant yet. And one Marine will ask his battle buddy for one last favor "Don't let me become one of them."

The group of survivors finds themselves shaken up after the firefight at the farm with members of the College. They gather up a big stash of weapons from the dead and decide to try to sell them at a nearby town.

As the group settles in to a temporary camp, Gunnery Sergeant Mason tries to come to terms with executing the two American deserters while trying to take stock of how the group is doing. 

In the end, someone has to go to the town and try to sell the equipment or find out it's a trap.

Minka and Pavlov return to the group with good news, the town of Ostrzeszow and it's leader, Radislov, are willing to trade them much needed goods for their excess weapons. Minka and Pavlov return to the town with Blanco and Zofie, who is hoping to find information about her relatives. The group's spirits are high at the prospect of getting new gear and maybe even some luxury goods. On a day like this, even the dark world of the apocalypse doesn't seem so bad.

Now that the group of survivors have found the missing nuclear weapon they have to decide what to do with it. But nukes are not the only thing that the group is worried about. Supplies are low, Misérables Beast is low on fuel, and Pavlov is terrified he'll ruin Minka's rabbits. Oh yeah, the group also reunites with an old "friend".

In this episode, Axel is taken prisoner by the GRU officer that Zofie stabbed in the eye and Minka demonstrates that if the war hadn't broken out she could have taken gold in the 400 meter dash. The rest of the survivors encounter a ghost from Blanco's past who now works for the College. When shots are fired, Mason leads the group on a wild ride through the woods to save them, dragging the nuke behind them on a makeshift sled. In the chaos, Blanco begins planning for the endgame.

Every show has to do it at some point and we hit that point in this episode. The group of survivors come together to save Minka and Axel from a group of Russian soldiers and the GRU officer that Zofie stabbed in the eye. Blanco does his best Slim Pickens as he rides the nukes while placing a very real bomb on it while Zofie is speeding toward the bridge. Zofie's need for revenge and Miserable Beast's unquenchable lust for blood lead to some gruesome endings for some of the Russian soldiers. It's 80's action movie time for our group of survivors in the harsh world of Twilight 2000.

The battle on the bridge continues. Axel tries to stay alive surrounded by Russian soldiers while trying to wrestle with the fact that Zofie is the daughter of the very Russian commander he is fighting with. The group has been lucky so far but luck can only last so long with so many bullets flying through the air. This is violence World War III style and death stalks the bridge like...well like a ghost. Then there is that Russian with the radio calling something in, wonder what that could be?

The survivors find themselves at the gates of the College as "guests" with the hope that they can trade the Russian nuke for supplies as well as get out of there alive. The College boasts plenty of food, water, real beds, and even power, things the players have not had for a long time. Will the group stay and throw their lot in with the College, putting aside their past conflicts with them, will they finally get the supplies they need to take Zofie home, or will fate decide for them. It is never safe to let one's guard down in the unforgiving world of Twilight 2000.

So as we close on our final three episodes in our current story arch we wanted to flip the switch on the way-back machine, back to March of 2021, when we sat down and created our characters.

If you want to get a feel for how a lifepath session plays out at a table, give us a watch.  
If you want to see how your most/least favorite character from "It's Always Cloudy in Kalisz" came to be, give it a watch!

One of the most interesting things is how the intentions of the players changed as their characters progressed through the lifepath.  None of them turned out the way they planned, but I think it made for better storytelling as the series has progressed.

Just a reminder, that these characters were made using the original ALPHA rules and so a few things have changed since then with the release of BETA and the final rules version so some things will be a little different.

Hello, it is that time again. The Advanced Age Roleplaying Gamers Podcast will be releasing the next, and second to last, episode of their actual-play podcast - It's Always Cloudy in Kalisz, which is set in the grim apocalyptic world of Twilight 2000 4E, tomorrow, Tuesday November 16th. Bleeding, bruised, burned, and carrying with them one of their own, fallen in battle, the group stops by the river east of the college, near the bridge that will lead them east toward Zofie's home town. It is a moment of rest, healing, a time to come clean, and a time to say goodbye. But there is not time to rest for long, because there is no respite in the dark and dangerous world of Twilight 2000.

Our new story Sex, Drugs, and Saving Throws a Dungeons and Dragons 5E misadventure starts in two weeks!

A heavy metal band, the Mithril Maidens, are down on their luck and looking for their next big score. They are approached by a secretive half-elf and a gnomish scholar with an offer to make a lot of gold quick. All they have to do is take a book on gardening and animal husbandry to an abbey about a days travel outside of the capital. It should be a cake walk, but things have a way of taking a dark turn between the pages of Sex, Drugs, and Saving Throws. 

Sex, Drugs, and Saving Throws – EP02 “Riding the Bulette”

Sex, Drugs, and Saving Throws is a Dungeons and Dragons 5th Edition actual-play podcast.

In our first episode, we met the members of the fantasy heavy metal band Mithril Maidens: Echoes an Eladrin Monk and bagpiper, Raine, a Fae Fighter-Thief and bass lutist, Huilgrim, a halfing barbarian and lead lutist, Zuulja, a half-orc bard and drummer of the band, and Gromarsh, another half-orc bard and lead singer of the band. Our “heros” were hired by Fizbin, a gnomish scholar, to deliver a book about gardening and animal husbandry to an abbey about a day’s travel from the capital.

It was easy money, almost too easy. The group set out but soon the weather took a turn for the worse, and the group found themselves helping a group of refugees to get one of their carts unstuck from the muddy road. As they were finishing up, the ground shook and the massive form of a Bulette burst from the ground.

It is time to find out if the members of the Mithril Maidens are more than just great hair and perfectly tuned instruments or are they also actually bad ass adventurers not afraid to ride the Bulette.

There is a great to-do about soup and the band meets Randall, a scribe at the abbey with an obsession with apples. The group gets a tour of the abbey grounds and meets the captain of the guard. Pants will be dropped and blades will be drawn before the group comes face to face with the Master of the Abbey, an elf, of unusual size.

Sex, Drugs, and Saving Throws EP04 “Unrest in the Forest”

In this episode the members of Mithril Maidens have completed their quest by delivering the druidic book to the Abbey’s head scholar, Master Sylmar, an elf of unusual size and mannerisms. The band has been invited to a feast and even offered a chance for a paid gig to perform. All they need to do now is relax and get ready for their show. Except, the Mithril Maidens are not just a collection big hair, guy liner, and tight leather pants, they are also a band of adventurers always looking for a side quest and that is just what they get when the old woman Jezellin tells Echo that her husband Trudor and son Bingon have not returned from hunting in the forest. Echo quickly negotiated a deal to look for her lost family in exchange for drugs and perhaps some company. The group Rushes into the nearby woods where they will find that there is definitely something very wrong going on and There is Unrest in the Forest.

The AARPG is very excited to announce that one of our long-time friends, Malcolm, has rejoined the podcast. Malcolm appeared in the first few episodes of our Aliens Destroyer of Worlds story arc but due to some real-world commitments could not finish the story with us. Set six months after the events of the first chapter of this story "Endless Harvest", Baking the Law finds the Mithril Maidens back together again, down on their luck and trying to get back into the music scene. The main difference is that now they have a manager, Orin Killroy, who won the honor of being the band' front man by losing in a game of cards.

Once again, the enigmatic half-elven warlock Fel, working on behalf of Fizbin the scribe, calls upon the Mithril Maidens to help them on a very important mission in the war against the encroaching chaos, to steal a holy artifact of law from the capital of the lawful good kingdom to the north. How will our band of intrepid adventurers accomplish this, by winning in one of the most highly watched and highly dangerous shows on all of the Scry Network - an extreme baking competition where the ingredients are just as likely to try to eat the adventures.

The Mithril Maidens took second place in the first competition and so have the evening off to do what they will. In this case, a little time off leads to Echoes of Banter hatching a plan with Nobby, the goblin that lives inside the base of one of the Feebler Elves wheelchair. This episode also contains violent dysentery and the most terrible thing the group has encountered - a sober Gromarsh. And finally, they will learn what their next challenge awaits them. 

So put on so much guyliner that you want to fuck yourself and tune your scrying set to the next episode of Baking the Law!

The second challenge in the Baking the Law competition has begun and the contestants must gather pudding, in three glass jars, from the halls of the Pudding King. Set six months after the events of the first chapter of this story "Endless Harvest", Baking the Law finds the Mithril Maidens back together again, down on their luck and trying to get back into the music scene. Oh, yeah, and like the first 20 minutes of the episode is just the whole group trying to desperately get Gromarsh high again.

And so comes to an end the second chapter of the Sex, Drugs, and Saving Throws story. The Mithril Maidens find themselves on the High Priest Judas's private yacht as part of their reward for winning the baking competition. What starts out like a fine time, a concert and an orgy, takes a turn for the worse when one of the bandmates is caught red handed in the high priest's cabin with the princess trying to steam the holy relic of law, The Uptight. This episode has it all, Sex, Drugs, and Saving Throws all leading to an explosive finale.

So lube up that Rod of Might and tune your scrying set to the final episode of Baking the Law!
