10 Jun 2024199: Reflections and Lessons from 199 Straight Weekly Episodes00:12:57

It’s hard to believe it is episode 199, and next week will mark a massive milestone of recording, producing, and releasing an episode every single week for almost 4 years straight!

In this week’s episode, I wanted to reflect over the past 199 episodes, and get you prepared for the next 200 episodes!

Over the past 199 weeks, I’ve had on leaders across numerous professions:

  • TedX Speakers

  • Ex-Navy Seals

  • Best-Selling Authors

  • Up and coming leaders, to CEOs of massive brands

  • Sales Professionals from BDRs, to AEs, to VPs of Sales

  • Marketing Professionals to talk about what makes them successful

  • Customer Success Leaders to talk about how to retain/grow your customers

These professionals were across a variety of industries too:

  • Solopreneurs starting their own journey

  • Coaches, Community Leaders, Public Speakers

  • Partnership Leaders

  • Podcast Hosts

  • Those sharing mental health struggles/tips

  • Financial Advisors

I’ve learned some massive lessons along the way, and some interesting trends:

  1. What you experience early in your life and career really lays the foundation to success later (Transfering your skills)

  2. Business Acumen is crucial: Relatable to who you are speaking with. Real world skills and experience is something I believe needs to be a bigger focus early in our careers and life.

  3. Develop Cross-Functional Skills: understanding other roles at the company allows you to be a more well-rounded employee

  4. Action is more important than perfection

I am excited to get even more tactical myself, and utilize the skills I’ve learned like writing Blogs, creating a newsletter, and who knows, maybe even get more long-form content onto YouTube too.

So excited that you’ve been on this journey with me, as we continue to develop our own skills, and become the best versions of ourselves along the way.

Please enjoy this week’s episode of The 20% Podcast!

25 Sep 2023162: The Art of Learning Transferable Skills with Hampton Dortch00:32:49

In this week’s episode, my friend Hampton Dortch takes over in the interviewer seat. A few weeks ago, I was a guest on Hampton’s, “Wake Up and Lead” podcast, where I had the opportunity to discuss the importance of transferable skills.

From studying Exercise Science to falling into sales, I knew I had to find a way to put my education to good use, and transfer the skills I developed previously into what I was doing next. The more I began incorporating previous lessons into my existing work, the more I realized that so many of the skills directly transfer from one area to another, despite the roles being vastly different in nature.

It has led me down the path of helping others unlock the skills they’ve previously developed earlier in their lives, and how they can use them to excel in their current role today.

Please enjoy this week’s episode with Hampton Dortch!

27 Dec 202171: Year End Podcast Reflection: How each guest influenced my journey (First solo episode)00:39:33

Wow, what a year this has been. In sitting down to record this episode, I didn’t realize truly how much I have grown over the year, and the podcast is a great time capsule to show the growth.

I often preach about how starting the podcast was the best professional decision I have ever made, and I have yet to waiver from that stance. The show is crucial to:

  1. Building Quality Relationships With World-Class Guests
  2. Learn More Than I Ever Could Have Imagined
  3. Build Personal Brand/Thought Leadership
  4. Impact As Many People As I Can

Besides my growth, I have been so fortunate to build incredible relationships with all of my guests, and to see their grown over the year was also truly a blessing to me. Here are the takeaways for the year in podcasting. Onto 2022!

High school/college students, those making a transition in the middle of their career, to those who are leaving a role they’ve been in for 20 years are asking themselves the same question:“What am I going to do next?”

18 Aug 2020Trailer: The 20% Podcast with Tyler Meckes00:01:14
Welcome To “The 20% Podcast with Tyler Meckes”!  Like many kids and adults, I had no idea what I wanted to do with my career. It took 6 years of school studying Exercise Science, to realize that I wanted to be in the business world. I never did any job shadowing, and simply made my decision by choosing it from the list of majors. Looking back, I could have benefited from someone exposing me to the potential options I could choose as a career. On this show, I will be interviewing industry professionals across all job types, and bring you tips, tricks and easy to use principles that can spark a new interest you may not have known about, or give you principles to use in your current job today. Thanks for being on this journey with me! The latest show will be released every Friday just in time for your weekend enjoyment! Feedback? 16 Oct 2023165: Focusing on Your Skill Development Builds The Foundation Of Your Future with Tyler Meckes00:18:46

In reflection while watching episodes, I have been looking back on my own career so far, and the skills I’ve developed.

I have been hearing more and more of teenagers, like cousins, and even at birthday parties, say that they simply don’t know what they want to do with their career.

When I hear this, I realize: That was me, I was that kid.

In reflection while hearing these episodes, I have been looking back on my own career so far, and the skills I’ve developed.

Although I never thought I would fall into sales and marketing, my path has turned me into a very well-rounded employee

My various experiences have allowed me to learn from a variety of industries, and skills, that I can now incorporate that knowledge I’ve learned into my clients.

In today’s episode, I wanted to reflect on these jobs, and the high-level lessons I’ve learned that makes me who I am today.

The big takeaway is this:

The skills that I have developed and can incorporate into my existing work are far more important than the actual title that I had.

You can’t predict the future, and 5 years ago, I would have never known where I am today, which is the same exact situation kids are in when they make their future decision to go to college.

It is crucial to focus on that skill development, because it is the foundation for your future success.

Thank you so much for your support. If there are any guests you’d like to hear me talk with on The 20% Podcast, send me a message on LinkedIn.

Please enjoy this week’s episode of The 20% Podcast.

28 Oct 2024219: Pipedream Lake Tahoe Company Offsite Vlog (New YouTube Channel Now Live!) 00:06:51

Special Announcement - This week, I am doing something different, as I am releasing my first vlog on my brand new YouTube Channel I just launched!

Check it out here:

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCtxMIrbe7_q_pBEIgArPG1g

Join me this week as I take you along on a journey from the East Coast to the breathtaking landscapes of Lake Tahoe for our company’s West Coast retreat. This trip brought incredible experiences, team bonding, and moments that deepened our connections far beyond the virtual walls of our remote work.

That first night was a chance to unwind, play games like Cornhole and billiards, and enjoy a great meal together. The following day was full of insightful presentations, starting with our Founder & CEO Tod, and a deep dive into Pipedream Connect led by our Product team. A hike up the mountains of Lake Tahoe followed, with stunning views and memorable conversations that underscored the unique value of being together in person.

Our final day capped off with “Hax Day,” where teams worked to solve prioritized ideas pitched by our colleagues. I even interviewed our Product Manager, Danny Roosevelt, on Pipedream Connect. A quick trip to downtown Truckee with our Head of Revenue, Danny Archer, led to an some fly-fishing, and some awesome pictures by the river.

Reflecting on the trip during the long journey home, I realized how much stronger we’d become as a team—not just in our skills but in our connections. From hikes and hands-on projects to sharing meals and stories, this retreat was the perfect reminder of what we can achieve together.

Tune in for this behind-the-scenes episode, and if you’re interested in simplifying API integrations and in-app automations, check out Pipedream Connect. Enjoy this episode as we share stories and the experiences that make our work more than just a job.

Enjoy this week’s episode with special Vlog episode of The 20% Podcast.

I am now in the early stages of writing my first book! It will cover my journey into sales, the lessons learned, and include stories and advice from top sales professionals around the world. I’m excited to share these interviews and bring you along on this journey!
