ML Tasks on Swift Without Python, Neural Networks and Libraries
This story was written by: @pichukov. Learn more about this writer by checking @pichukov's about page,

This article is not a guide on how to write something in Swift; rather, it is more like a thought piece about the current mindset of many developers who view Python as a bridge to the ultimate solution for ML libraries that will resolve any problem or task they encounter, regardless of the language they are using. I would wager that most developers prefer to invest their time in finding ways to integrate Python libraries into their language/environment rather than considering alternative solutions without them. While this is not inherently bad – reuse has been a significant driver of progress in IT over the past few decades – I have started to sense that many developers no longer even consider alternative solutions. This mindset becomes even more entrenched with the current state and advancements in Large Language Models. We will take a classic ML task and solve it by using Swift language and no Libraries.
Unlike the contributory model that has underpinned the development of Internet content since the late twentieth century, conversational agents in AI language models do not allow users to directly publish content, products, or innovations. A truly participatory language model has yet to be invented, and we are still far from achieving it, says Empereur Pirate.

Exploring Gauge-Higgs Inflation with Extra Dimensions: Abstract and Introduction
Inflation can solve both the flatness problem and the horizon problem at the same time and also explain temperature fluctuations of the cosmic microwave background (CMB) It is almost certain that inflation occurred in the early universe. In our model, fields involved in inflation obey a different type of boundary condition from that of the visible particles. A surviving Wilson line phase can play a specific role for physics beyond the standard model.

While this article compares Telegram's approach to crypto integration with Discord and explores their relative strengths and weaknesses, it is important to note that the latter hasn't been entirely outpaced. As of today, there are some communities maintaining active servers, and Discord's voice chat functionality is still very much preferred.
However, Telegram's current features and looser regulations have positioned it as the dominant platform for the memecoin phenomenon and a potential catalyst for mass adoption. Its current dominance in fostering the memecoin frenzy, with its ease of use, bot integration, and open environment, aligns with the marketing strategy of many memecoin communities.

On the Effect of Taxes and of Legal Restrictions upon Manufactures
414. As soon as a tax is put upon any article, the ingenuity of those who make, and of those who use it, is directed to the means of evading as large a part of the tax as they can; and this may often be accomplished in ways which are perfectly fair and legal. An excise duty exists at present of 3d.(1*) per pound upon all writing paper. The effect of this impost is, that much of the paper which is employed, is made extremely thin, in order that the weight of a given number of sheets may be as small as possible. Soon after the first imposition of the tax upon windows, which depended upon their number, and not upon their size, new-built houses began to have fewer windows and those of larger dimensions than before. Staircases were lighted by extremely long windows, illuminating three or four flights of stairs. When the tax was increased, and the size of windows charged as single was limited, then still greater care was taken to have as few windows as possible, and internal lights became frequent. These internal lights in their turn became the subject of taxation; but it was easy to evade the discovery of them, and in the last Act of Parliament reducing the assessed taxes, they ceased to be chargeable. From the changes thus successively introduced in the number the forms, and the positions of the windows, a tolerable conjecture might, in some instances, be formed of the age of a house.
A tax on windows is exposed to objection on the double ground of its excluding air and light, and it is on both accounts injurious to health. The importance of light to the enjoyment of health is not perhaps sufficiently appreciated: in the cold and more variable climates, it is of still greater importance than in warmer countries.
The effects of regulations of excise upon our home manufactures are often productive of great inconvenience; and check, materially, the natural progress of improvement. It is frequently necessary, for the purposes of revenue, to oblige manufacturers to take out a license, and to compel them to work according to certain rules, and to make certain stated quantities at each operation. When these quantities are large, as in general they are, they deter manufacturers from making experiments, and thus impede improvements both in the mode of conducting the processes and in the introduction of new materials. Difficulties of this nature have occurred in experimenting upon glass for optical purposes; but in this case, permission has been obtained by fit persons to make experiments, without the interference of the excise. It ought, however, to be remembered, that such permission, if frequently or indiscriminately granted, might be abused: the greatest protection against such an abuse will be found, in bringing the force of public opinion to bear upon scientific men and thus enabling the proper authorities, although themselves but moderately conversant with science, to judge of the propriety of the permission, from the public character of the applicant.
COLOURS.
Chap. CCXXII.—What Surface is best calculated to receive most Colours.
White is more capable of receiving all sorts of colours, than the surface of any body whatever, that is not transparent. To prove it, we shall say, that any void space is capable of receiving what another space, not void, cannot receive. In the same manner, a white surface, like a void space, being destitute of any colour, will be fittest to receive such as are conveyed to it from any other enlightened body, and will participate more of the colour than black can do; which latter, like a broken vessel, is not able to contain any thing.
Chap. CCXXIII.—What Surface will shew most perfectly its true Colour.
That opake body will shew its colour more perfect and beautiful, which has near it another body of the same colour.
Chap. CCXXIV.—On what Surfaces the true Colour is least apparent.
Polished and glossy surfaces shew least of their genuine colour. This is exemplified in the grass of the fields, and the leaves of trees, which, being smooth and glossy, will reflect the colour of the sun, and the air, where they strike, so that the parts which receive the light do not shew their natural colour.
Chap. CCXXV.—What Surfaces shew most of their true and genuine Colour.
Those objects that are the least smooth and polished shew their natural colours best; as we see in cloth, and in the leaves of such grass or trees as are of a woolly nature; which, having no lustre, are exhibited to the eye in their true natural colour; unless that colour happen to be confused by that of another body casting on them reflexions of an opposite colour, such as the redness of the setting sun, when all the clouds are tinged with its colour.

A model in clay, in alto relievo. It is a circle of about two palms in diameter, and represents St. Jerom in a grotto, old, and much worn out by prayer. It was in the possession of Sig. Ignazio Hugford, a painter at Florence, who was induced to buy it in consequence of the great praises which in his youth he had heard bestowed on it by the celebrated Anton. Dominico Gabbiani, his master, who knew it to be of the hand of Leonardo. This model appears to have been much studied in the time of Pontormo and Rosso; and many copies of it, both drawings and pictures, are to be found throughout Florence, well painted in their manner.

Ukraine's battlefields have driven the hypersonic drone development race across the world.
Leonardo da Vinci, the Author of the following Treatise, was the natural son of Pietro da Vinci, a notary of Vinci, in Tuscany a village situated in the valley of Arno, a little below Florence, and was born in the year 1452.
Having discovered, when a child, a strong inclination and talent for painting, of which he had given proofs by several little drawings and sketches; his father one day accidentally took up some of them, and was induced to shew them to his friend Andrea Verocchio, a painter of some reputation in Florence, who was also a chaser, an architect, a sculptor, and goldsmith, for his advice, as to the propriety of bringing up his son to the profession of painting, and the probability of his becoming eminent in the art. The answer of Verocchio was such as to confirm him in that resolution; and Leonardo, to fit him for that purpose, was accordingly placed under the tuition of Verocchio.
As Verocchio combined in himself a perfect knowledge of the arts of chasing and sculpture, and was a deep proficient in architecture, Leonardo had in this situation the means and opportunity of acquiring a variety of information, which though perhaps not immediately connected with the art to which his principal attention was to be directed, might, with the assistance of such a mind as Leonardo’s, be rendered subsidiary to his grand object, tend to promote his knowledge of the theory, and facilitate his practice of the profession for which he was intended. Accordingly we find that he had the good sense to avail himself of these advantages, and that under Verocchio he made great progress, and attracted his master’s friendship and confidence, by the talents he discovered, the sweetness of his manners, and the vivacity of his disposition. Of his proficiency in painting, the following instance is recorded; and the skill he afterwards manifested in other branches of science, on various occasions, evidently demonstrated how solicitous he had been for knowledge of all kinds, and how careful in his youth to lay a good foundation. Verocchio had undertaken for the religious of Vallombrosa, without Florence, a picture of our Saviour’s Baptism by St. John, and consigned to Leonardo the office of putting in from the original drawing, the figure of an angel holding up the drapery; but, unfortunately for Verocchio, Leonardo succeeded so well, that, despairing of ever equalling the work of his scholar, Verocchio in disgust abandoned his pencil for ever, confining himself in future solely to the practice of sculpture.

Focus on how to obtain these metrics in a manner that is easy to use, accurate and actionable.
Ground truth and production metrics complement each others for ensuring performance. These two metric pipeline should be used to improve each other.
Metric collection from production should not affect degrading performance. Metrics should dictate what logs needed to be added. Logs should be harmless and simple. Metrics derivation and logs should be orthogonal.
We discuss more details on scaling performance metrics infrastructure in the final part of the trilogy

This report introduces a new family of multimodal models, Gemini, that exhibit remarkable capabilities across image, audio, video, and text understanding. The Gemini family consists of Ultra, Pro, and Nano sizes, suitable for applications ranging from complex reasoning tasks to on-device memory-constrained use-cases. Evaluation on a broad range of benchmarks shows that our most-capable Gemini Ultra model advances the state of the art in 30 of 32 of these benchmarks — notably being the first model to achieve human-expert performance on the well-studied exam benchmark MMLU, and improving the state of the art in every one of the 20 multimodal benchmarks we examined. We believe that the new capabilities of Gemini models in cross-modal reasoning and language understanding will enable a wide variety of use cases and we discuss our approach toward deploying them responsibly to users.

Sharing my insights at Jagiellonian University's National Diplomacy Week, I found diplomats keenly interested in AI regulations. We discussed topics like public diplomacy, cybersecurity, and AI's impact on business. Reflecting on the evolution of AI, regulatory models in the U.S., China, and the EU, along with my experiences running a startup, it's clear that navigating the potential of AI requires smart strategies. In Poland, there's a somewhat passive stance on AI rules, but opportunities exist. To maximize the benefits of AI, securing funding, staying informed, and finding the right balance between personalization and automation are crucial. To sum up, making informed decisions about AI is key to a balanced and promising future.

Chap. CCVII.—A Precept.
Figures will have more grace, placed in the open and general light, than in any particular or small one; because the powerful and extended light will surround and embrace the objects: and works done in that kind of light appear pleasant and graceful when placed at a distance, while those which are drawn in a narrow light, will receive great force of shadow, but will never appear at a great distance, but as painted objects.
Chap. CCVIII.—Of the Interposition of transparent Bodies between the Eye and the Object.
The greater the transparent interposition is between the eye and the object, the more the colour of that object will participate of, or be changed into that of the transparent medium.
When an opake body is situated between the eye and the luminary, so that the central line of the one passes also through the centre of the other, that object will be entirely deprived of light.
Chap. CCIX.—Of proper Back-grounds for Figures.
As we find by experience, that all bodies are surrounded by lights and shadows, I would have the painter to accommodate that part which is enlightened, so as to terminate upon something dark; and to manage the dark parts so that they may terminate on a light ground. This will be of great assistance in detaching and bringing out his figures.

hap. LX.—Of the Equipoise of a Figure standing still.
The non-existence of motion in any animal resting on its feet, is owing to the equality of weight distributed on each side of the line of gravity.
Chap. LXI.—Motion produced by the Loss of Equilibrium.
Motion is created by the loss of due equipoise, that is, by inequality of weight; for nothing can move of itself, without losing its centre of gravity, and the farther that is removed, the quicker and stronger will be the motion.

Web 2.5 is a new documentary by HackerNoon that explores the evolution of the internet, discussing the pros and cons of the journey so far and whether Web 3.0 will truly revolutionize the digital landscape. It offers a behind-the-scenes look at the HackerNoon team as they debate the issues in an entertaining and educational manner. The documentary discusses the path from Web 1.0 to the present day, and the possible future of the internet under Web 3.0, suggesting that the internet has become a mirror of society and that we need to fix society, not the mirror.
Web 1.0 was the first iteration of the internet, known as the static web, followed by Web 2.0 - the social web - which saw users begin to actively participate in content creation. The current phase is known as Web 3.0, or the trustless web, which operates on distributed networks and incorporates blockchain technology, with a focus on peer-to-peer payments and content creation.
The documentary suggests that there are problems with the current model, with content creators needing to pay more to reach their established audience unless they pay for advertising or boost their content. It questions whether Web 3.
