Ripple Labs, along with its top executives Brad Garlinghouse and Chris Larsen, has filed for summary judgment in the nearly two-year-long dispute over XRP. The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) sued Ripple in late 2020 under allegations that it issued XRP as an unregistered security. Nasdaq announced that it will launch a new group dedicated to digital assets in a bid to attract institutional clients. House Financial Services Committee Chairwoman Maxine Waters and Ranking Member Patrick McHenry have been working to reach an agreement on the stablecoin legislation. In addition to addressing what unfolded with Terra, the bill would allow banks and nonbanks to issue stablecoins. Bank issuers would seek approval from their typical federal regulators, such as the OCC. The legislation would direct the Fed to establish a process for making decisions on applications from nonbank issuers. Nonbank stablecoin issuers approved at the state level and that register with the Fed within 180 days of that approval would be able to operate under the bill. The Vasil hard fork is set to be the most significant one on the cryptocurrency’s network since the Alonzo one, which brought in smart contract functionality in September of last year. Vasil is set to bring in smart contract enhancements while boosting the network’s throughput and reducing costs. Blockchain-powered wireless network Helium (HNT) and T-Mobile have partnered to launch Helium Mobile, a 5G wireless service for smartphones. It will use Helium’s decentralized, crypto-powered 5G network as well as T-Mobile’s network, and switch between the two as needed.Helium is also voting to migrate to Solana (SOL) blockchain in a new proposal published on August 30. The proposal seeks to make three major changes: Move Proof of Coverage (PoC) to Oracles, Move Data Transfer Accounting to Oracles, Migrate the Helium network and all its tokens to the Solana blockchain.

The British pound's searing drop helped lift the safe-haven U.S. dollar to a new two-decade peak against a basket of major currencies, while the euro hit a fresh two-decade low. As the pound's slide rippled across markets, Sunday's election in Italy, in which a rightist bloc looked set for a solid majority, appeared to have little immediate impact. Investment giant Fidelity, through its digital assets subsidiary, has announced plans to offer institutional users access to Ethereum (ETH) transactions. The firm noted that the decision to allow access to Ethereum comes after the successful Merge upgrade, and customers will be able to buy, sell and transfer the asset from October 28, Fidelity said. Major update on the Ripple vs. SEC case as Ripple, the defendants finally managed to get their hands on the internal emails and drafts of former U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission official William Hinman. Elon Musk's acquisition of Twitter, completed on Thursday, also included a $500 million commitment from crypto's largest trading venue, Binance. Shortly after, Twitter has introduced a feature called Tweet Tiles, which will expand links to NFTs posted in messages. Ripple Labs has announced it now holds less than 50% of its XRP token in its wallets.
