On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Mike Harrington, longtime writer and columnist for The Buffalo News to partake in a candid discussion about the state of the team he primarily covers, the Buffalo Sabres.

After showing so much promise and missing the postseason by just two points last season, Buffalo has went backwards in a lot of areas, including the standings are now a lock to miss the playoffs for a 13th consecutive season. Mike assesses several reasons why this happened with a woeful power play being one of the biggest. He also talks about how the home game environment inside the arena lacks compared to many other teams around the league, with an emphasis on the Sabres dull game day experiences not being the fault of fans. He also surmises that Buffalo should cut down on their afternoon matinee games in effort to improve the atmosphere.

In the wake of New Jersey just firing former Sabres long-time coach Lindy Ruff, Mike has opinions on if he thinks Ruff reuniting with Buffalo could be a possibility if Terry Pegula does fire Don Granato after the season, citing that Ruff had interest in the Buffalo job in 2019 before then-general manager Jason Botterill chose Ralph Krueger for the job.

The guys also talk about the pleasant surprise UPL has been in net and spend a little time imaging what the city of Buffalo would feel like if they finally won either a Super Bowl or Stanley Cup. That and plenty more.

It’s another edition of The Podbag today on Talking Buffalo, the weekly episode where the audience controls the narrative and topics. Patrick Moran is responding to several takes and questions, including a fan annoyed with the all the negative talk about the Buffalo Bills who asks for---and receives a completely optimistic outlook for the team in 2024.

The Bills have been in the playoffs every year since 2019 and have won the AFC east the past four seasons, yet there's a national perception that this team is in big trouble in 2024, a school of thought that seems to be growing on a local and fan base level as well. There's several key departures from last year's team and significant-to-nagging injuries this summer piling up that has many worried. Patrick is among them but for the purpose of this exercise tells everyone why it's incredibly realistic for Buffalo to still keep their divisional reign intact and remain a legitimate Super Bowl contender.

That said, there's reasons to pump the brakes on Buffalo's 2024 expectation and several submissions refer to that, including takes on a less than desirable early impression during the preseason from rookie wide receiver Keon Coleman and an overall failure to adequately replace what departed from last year.

There's also thoughts on "Buffalo Joe" making the Bills and what may happen if he doesn't, Dawson Knox bouncing back, criticism at a Talking Buffalo regular guest and plenty more.

On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran discusses the Buffalo Bills firing of offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey on Tuesday morning--how much of it is deserves and how much of it is Dorsey being the scapegoat for bigger problems.

The writing appeared to be be on the wall during Sean McDermott's post-game press conference in the minutes following their embarrassing 24-22 last second loss at home in prime time to Denver, when the Bills coach was directly critical of the offense and to some extent, Dorsey. Patrick has thoughts on the firing, concluding that it's deserved if not overdue but to simply think the team's fortunes on offense let alone overall will turnaround solely because of this move is ludricous.

Patrick talks about why he thinks the head coach is the even bigger problem, though conceding it's nearly a lock McDermott's not going anywhere regardless how bad the season end. He also has thoughts on Josh Allen just not being right physically or emotionally, and Von Miller's lack of impact getting to the point that his reps may be hurting the team.

That plus depression sets in on the Sabres as Tage Thompson suffers a significant injury on Tuesday and much more. Ugh.

On today’s episode of Talking Buffalo Podcast, Patrick Moran is joined by writer and podcaster Joe Yerdon for their weekly Tuesday chat, this time focusing on the Buffalo Bills collapsing in the second half for a second consecutive week, Josh Allen suddenly becoming a problem and the Buffalo Sabres in the midst of a five-game losing streak.

The Bills blew a three score lead on Sunday and lost at home after leading by at least 14 points at the half for the first time since 1968. The guys talk about several key points of the game including Allen being fully responsible for three critical turnovers, injuries ravaging the Bills secondary finally catching up, the lack of a running game and some extremely questionable play calls and coaching decisions.

On this episode of Talking Buffalo Podcast Patrick Moran is joined by former Buffalo Bills tight end Butch Rolle for a fascinating conversation spanning Butch's life and career as well as his charitable foundation that has a bowling event going on in West Seneca this weekend.

A former seventh-round draft of the Bills out of Michigan State in 1986, Rolle became famous in Buffalo and around the NFL as the guy who "all he does is catch touchdowns." Rolle once caught 14 consecutive passes for touchdowns.  Butch describes growing up in Florida, never playing organized football until 10th grade but still becoming a big-time recruit, why he decided to attend Michigan State for college, what it was like being drafted by Buffalo---a team that stunk in 1986, the process of the team growing into a contender and much more.

On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by friend and recurring guest to over a list consisting of a handful of Buffalo Bills players that at least Patrick thinks are being slept on going into the 2024 season.

Players like Josh Allen and Von Miller and especially former players like Stefon Diggs Tre White and Jordan Poyer are commanding most of the offseason attention nationally and even to a certain extent, locally. Perfectly understandable, but this Bills roster is chockfull of some young talent that is likely still ascending that at least on some levels simply fly under the radar.

The guys talk about some of them, including Dawson Knox, who saw his production decline last year between a wrist injury and the emergence of rookie first-round pick Dalton Kincaid. That doesn't mean people should be sleeping on Knox's potential in this offense though. This is a guy who caught nearly 50 passes for over 500 yards in both 2021 and 2022 with 15 touchdowns during that span. He's also been good in the playoffs.

Also, people tend to think of Rasul Douglas first when it comes to excellent Bills cornerbacks, but Christian Benford was (very) quietly graded by PFF among the very best corners in the NFL last season. The guys have thoughts on him as well as James Cook and a pair of still relatively young defensive ends among others.

It’s the debut edition of the “Finer Wings Club” on this bonus episode of Talking Buffalo Podcast, and Patrick is joined by Matt Parrino, Buffalo Bills beat reporter for NYup.com and Nate Geary, sports talk radio host at WGR 550 for a conversation on several topics, taped at Mulberry Italian Ristorante in Lackawanna.

Each week or at least most weeks Talking Buffalo Podcast will produce a Finer Wings Club episode, where Patrick has wings at different bars with a rotating panel of guests. Mulberry is known as one of the best overall restaurants Western New York and arguably the very best Italian restaurant. That’s common knowledge. What isn’t known is that serve chicken wings, let alone stunningly good chicken wings! The guys try their “Joe’s Medium”, “Honey BBQ” and the special “Tre White Spicy BBQ” and are absolutely blown away that a place best known for Lasagna and killer meatballs produces wings teetering on an elite level.

After filling their bellies with food (also had meatballs) and praise for Mulberry the guys turn their attention to conversation focused on Buffalo, from the community feel of the town to what it’s like leaving for a long period of time, the bonds much of the local sports media has and much more.

Of course, they spend some time talking Bills including addressing a potential few concerns going into camp. Ironically, as Patrick’s asking Matt about tight end being a potential concern (It’s not to Matt—for the record) it’s noted that Bills tight end Dawson Knox is actually at the restaurant enjoying a meal just a few yards away. It’s great stuff and this is must-listen episode for fans of the Bills, wings and the Buffalo community.

On this episode of Talking Buffalo, the very last one of 2023 Patrick Moran provides some instant live reaction just moments after the Buffalo Bills survived their regular season home finale, 27-21 over the New England Patriots that now have them in control of winning the AFC east and the second seed in the conference.

The offense was mostly sluggish if not outright bad, but the defense bailed them out in the first half with four turnovers, including a pick six by Rasul Douglas. Patrick has a ton of thoughts on both sides of the ball, what's ailing this team offensively, Von Miller being a healthy scratch, Lamar Jackson locking up MVP while doing the Bills a huge (huge) favor in the process and tons more.

On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by recurring guest and frenemy Joe From Queens to discuss several topics, most notably trying to figure out if Stefon Diggs' production is headed towards the edge of a cliff or if the back half of last season was an anomaly.

Diggs has been unbelievably great in totality during his first four seasons in Buffalo. In fact, he's pretty much re-written the team's record books when it comes to receptions and yards. However, his production completely fell into the abyss over the last nine games of this past season including the playoffs, where he failed to crack eight receptions or 88 yards receiving in any of the games and had a hugely uncharacteristic costly drop in the fourth quarter of the playoff loss. The guys examine what's going on with Diggs and if the productivity nose dive was more an element of the offensive coordinator in-season switch and schemes or if it's more Diggs suffering from simply getting older (he'll be 31 this season) and tons of wear and tear on him physically. They also discuss the significance of adding more and better pass catchers on the roster regardless of what Diggs' future holds and speaking of, they also debate on when the time Diggs won't be in Buffalo may come.

They also discuss a little Buffalo Sabres hockey after the team's been on a heater of late, a shout-out to local media member Jonah Bronstein, some Coach Dickerson stories and much more today.

The NHL regular season kicks off for the Sabres overseas tomorrow as they face the New Jersey Devils on consecutive days. The guys preview the team and season, starting with the new identity they're clearly trying to build between Lindy Ruff back again as head coach and the far more physical fourth line they put together this summer through a trade and a few free agent signings.

They also discuss some of the team's biggest questions, including if Ruff can reignite this offense to be really good again like it was two years ago, how long Jordan Greenway is likely to last in a top nine forward role, will Owen Power take the next step and if this is ultimately the year the team breaks their existing NHL record for longest playoff drought. One thing seems for sure---several things will have to break Buffalo's way for it to happen.

Meanwhile the Bills are trying to bounce back with a tough game in Houston this Sunday after getting pounded by Baltimore last week in their first loss of the season. It was already going to be a hard go for the Bills as it was and things aren't getting any easier following the news that Von Miller has been suspended for four games while both Dion Dawkins and Khalil Shakir were unable to practice on Wednesday because of injuries. The guys discuss that and a handful of guys that simply need to step up.

On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran goes over some of his biggest takeaways from the Buffalo Bills regular season finale loss at New England, even if the game itself actually mean nothing in addition to some preliminary thoughts on Denver as NFL wildcard weekend gets ready to start cooking.

It's hard to have significant reaction and takeaways to a game Buffalo played where winning wasn't the biggest concern. There's no reason to pour over All-22 film and overanalyze things that almost certainly will mean nothing for the playoffs. Still, Patrick did watch the game back and comes up with a detailed list of four things he liked and four things he didn't from the game, including an impressive performance from a rookie Patrick thinks just oozes with potential.

From there it's immediately onto Denver and Patrick gives some thoughts on a team he doesn't fear but certainly has a lot of respect for. In fact, this could be the best wildcard competition the Bills have faced during the Josh Allen era. That said, Patrick points out some things that make Denver feel Miami Dolphins'ish as well.

On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran previews the Buffalo Bills at New England Patriots season finale at Foxboro, complete with Bills keys to victory (is there really any "keys" in this game?) as we as bold predictions and more.

It's a matchup where the Bills have nothing to lose by losing and New England nothing much (if at all) to gain from winning. That's probably the most intriguing storyline going in. The Bills are locked into the number two seed for the AFC playoffs regardless of how this game plays out while New England is guaranteed the top pick of the 2025 NFL draft if they lose to Buffalo.

That said, Patrick still finds things worthy of talking about, mainly what starters will see the field for Buffalo, who should and shouldn't and what kind of lineup we may see on Sunday. Also, Patrick points out that a Bills win would set the all-time franchise record with 14 wins in a season, which may result in them making a more concerted effort to win with their backups.

That plus three bold predictions for the game, plenty of thoughts on the announcement of the AFC Pro Bowl roster that included just two Bills and plenty more.

On this episode of Talking Buffalo Podcast, Patrick Moran is joined by friend and recurring guest Aaron Quinn from Cover 1 for the third in a five-week series on Wednesdays consisting of full seven-round Buffalo Bills mock drafts. As always, The Draft Network simulates picks for the other 31 teams in the league, leaving Aaron and Patrick to select for the Bills in real-time without knowing who’ll be available beforehand and unlike the first two Bills mocks, this one allows for trades to be on the table.

The guys have went with defensive tackle and wide receiver with the first Bills pick in the first two mock drafts, respectively. Having the ability to swing deals this time around, the guys do move up once during the draft and are stuck with some difficult decisions, especially in round two when Patrick and Aaron disagree over who the pick should be. Ultimately it's a decision that's likely to rattle the cages of Bills fans and speculation should it happen during the actual NFL draft.

Before the mock the guys spend some time discussing Doug Whaley, Stefon Diggs, Josh Allen and potential early draft positions people are expecting (cornerbacks) as well as maybe one most aren't, linebacker.

On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran kicks off the first of what will be a handful of Buffalo Bills full seven round mock drafts over the next few weeks, and enlists David Tilton from Cover 1 for guidance and expertise.

Depending on what you’re trying to get from them, mock drafts can be incredibly useful or absolutely useless. The guys explain that rather that worrying about how the accuracy and predictive nature of mock drafts, use it as an “exercise” to learn about trends, how depth at various positions are deeper than others and just a general opportunity to learn about more prospects.

They then spend some time talking about many of the Bills draft needs, both primary and secondary with David discussing some of the players he has an eye on before the mock begins, including two defensive tackles and a corner. Patrick goes over a bunch of potential trade up scenarios over the first few rounds according to the latest draft value chart before the mock is up and running.

Once the mock gets going David finds himself in a bind with the 30th overall pick over taking defensive tackle Derrick Harmon or cornerback Trey Amos. Ultimately David takes the guy he was highest on entering the mock and goes defense with the next two picks as well.

There is one trade that sees Buffalo trade both their fourths to get into the late third round and nab a receiver the Bills apparently are interested in “real life”, Isaiah Bond. The rest of the way it’s purely best player available and David’s overall happy despite missing out on a safety he semi-coveted.

It’s been hard to put a finger on exactly how free agency has been for the Bills to this point. Weird is the term Patrick comes up with. Brandon Beane clearly had a few things in mind with his approach, most notably a receiver with a specific skill set and essentially an overhaul on the defensive line. It was shocking news to learn on Friday both Hoecht and Ogunjobi would be suspended six games each for PED violations, especially shocking to hear Beane admit he didn’t know about Ogunjobi but did ahead of time with Hoecht. The guys have plenty of reactions to that news and the way a lot of fans are handling it.

Also, the Bills may be relying on rookies more than they like in 2025 early on after the suspensions. The guys discuss how impactful rookies have been with the team throughout the Sean McDermott era.

With Bills season over it's time to start devoting more attention to the Sabres (for better and worse) and that's a big reason why Patrick has Chris on. He kind of gives casual fans who've been all-in on the BIlls but transitioning over to the Sabres more now an update on what's been going on with the team this season and spoiler alert---it's been a disaster. They talk about Lindy Ruff, how this team is dead last in the Eastern Conference, a big trade target, why they stink so bad at home, if Keyvn Adams will/should be GM at the trade deadline, how quickly this team can realistically turn things around and tons more.

On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran has his weekly thoughts and observations on the Buffalo Bills after watching the coaches All-22 film and analyzing the PFF grades of a crushing overtime loss to the Philadelphia Eagles that now has this team on the brink of missing the playoffs for the first time since 2018.

You saw it live during the game on TV Sunday and film study reveals the same----Sean McDermott's decisions near the end of the game are puzzling to say the least, if not cowardly. On the offensive ball it was obvious that Josh Allen deserved a better fate while defensively the film shows it's pretty obvious that any defensive tackle not named Ed Oliver is not doing much positive at all.

Patrick also goes over some interesting PFF grades assigned from the game, including a mixed bag from the offensive line, Tyrel Dodson coming back down to earth and an extremely worrisome game from former Pro Bowl safety Micah Hyde.

That and plenty more Bills notes, grades and thoughts from a team that very well may have to win their final five games to get to the postseason.

On this episode of Talking Buffalo, it’s “Fan Friday” and Patrick Moran reads off several comments and questions from fans, including the never-ending Patrick Mahomes vs Josh Allen debate, Buffalo Bills cornerback Tre White's future and plenty of Buffalo Sabres angst.

During a recent podcast episode conversation with Anthony Marino, both he and Patrick said that they wouldn't trade Allen for anyone if they were the Bills, same as the Chiefs surely feel about Mahomes. The Bills went down to Miami with the deck very much stacked against them. From playing on the road with a short week of preparation in blistering hot conditions and most importantly, decimated with injuries Buffalo still nearly pulled off their third consecutive win to the start the season. On this episode of Talking Buffalo, with just a few weeks before training the camp the Buffalo Bills 90-man roster is pretty much set, and Patrick Moran's joined by friend and recurring guest Anthony Marino to go over the additions and subtractions positionally and come up with their official Bills offseason report card.

With emphasizing that this exercise is not a "state of the team" as a whole but more so a comparison and analysis of what the team lost versus what they added, the guys go through the team positionally and try to figure out if the team got better, stayed the same or worsened at each spot. Obviously the conversation revolves around three areas of the team that resulted in the most personnel turnover: wide receiver, defensive line and safety.

The exercise also shows a few areas of the team that clearly on paper have downgraded on paper during the offseason, most notably cornerback after losing both Tre White and Dane Jackson and the only addition being a sixth-round rookie who's path to the roster is most likely through special teams. Offensive line is also a downgrade after losing their starting center and reliable utility lineman while adding just a fifth-round rookie, even if his ceiling is ultimately pretty high.

On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran goes over nine cornerback draft prospects he'd like to see Brandon Beane and the Buffalo Bills draft, tiered into three categories in addition to debating if the Buffalo Sabres recent hot streak is a good longer term development.

It's obvious the Bills will be targeting at least one cornerback in the draft and very likely early. As things stand Dane Jackson would be in line to start alongside Christian Benford and it's hard to fathom Bills brass considering that a Plan A. Defensive tackle and edge rusher are two other primary needs and who knows when Buffalo pulls the trigger on a corner. Patrick has three groups with three prospects in each that he really likes and discusses all of them, ranging from guys the Bills could be fortunate to land at pick No. 30 all the way through a few likely early day three picks.

Also, the Buffalo Sabres have caught fire, winning seven of their last eight games overall and have went 12-2 in their last 14 home games. There's a lot of things to like from what we've seen over the past month, but does it carry any significance beyond this season? Patrick makes cases for both the promising conclusion to yet another disappointing campaign having a positive long term impact versus potentially giving upper management a false sense of the realistic ceiling of this team as presently constructed.

Babich has been with Sean McDermott throughout his tenure in Buffalo, starting out with the safeties before coaching the linebackers over the past two years. He's credited by players for helping transform Jordan Poyer, Micah Hyde and Matt Milano into All-Pro players at their respective positions, not to mention the development of Terrell Bernard over this past season. Of course, the Bills offense improved significantly when Brady took over Ken Dorsey following Buffalo's loss at Denver, becoming much more effective at running the football in the process---porn music to Sean's ears. The guys talk about why they think staying with these guys to coordinate the offense and defense is absolutely the right call, with Patrick going as far to say he's heard from a player to not be surprised if Babich is a NFL head coach within two years.

The Bills went undefeated at home during the regular season for only the third time in franchise history and first since 1990, the first year the Bills went to the Super Bowl. The guys talk about a winning effort from Buffalo in every phrase of the game, including Josh Allen making what's almost certainly one final case to capture the league's MVP award.

They also discuss several players that had big impacts on the game for Buffalo--ranging from Greg Rousseau to Ed Oliver, Amari Cooper and Keon Coleman. Also Matt Milano had a few big plays in his fourth start of the season, did he do enough to gain confidence in him starting over Dorian Williams going into the playoffs?

As far as the Jets, they looked like a team that quit once the game started to get away from them, in particular Aaron Rodgers, who Patrick goes as far to call disinterested. That and plenty more.

On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is admittedly demoralized, quite possibly as demoralized as the Buffalo Bills themselves after the Bills found a way to add yet another improbable loss to their resume, this time an overtime defeat to the Philadelphia Eagles that has Buffalo's 2023 season on the brink of full failure.

After a dominating defensive effort in the first half the Bills defense couldn't make a stop to save their life when it mattered, and for the third time this season the Bills failed to hold a lead inside the final two minutes of the game. Patrick's got heated thoughts towards head coach Sean McDermott, both for gag jobs as defensive coordinator and head coach. It's becoming a consensus that McDermott's taken this franchise as far as their going to go, but is that enough for Terry Pegula to make a change?

Patrick also talks about a bunch of missed opportunities for Buffalo to put the game away, some atrocious individual player performances and equally atrocious officiating, being outkicked and outplayed when it mattered most.

On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Joe From Queens to talk about the defense carrying the Buffalo Bills to a 30-20 road victory at the Indianapolis Colts to improve to 8-2 on the season and set up a showdown with Kansas City next Sunday in Orchard Park.

It wasn't the prettiest game for the offense, not by a long shot but it didn't matter because Buffalo's defense was more than up to talk. Taron Johnson had a pick six on the Colts first offensive play of the game and the defense finished with four takeaways plus a key fourth down sack.

The guys talk about the unit's mostly dominating performance, forcing three Flacco interceptions and a strip sack by Greg Rousseau that led to a Damar Hamlin fumble recovery. They also held Jonathan Taylor to just seven yards rushing on five carries on the second half after Taylor had 107 at halftime.

It came on a day when the offense wasn't particular sharp, mostly understandable given they were down Keon Coleman and Amari Cooper coming into the game and lost Dalton Kincaid to a knee injury in the second quarter. Josh Allen threw two interceptions, both pretty ugly and also missed on a wide open Kincaid for a would-be touchdown. That said, he still threw for 280 yards and ran for 40 more while orchestrating a nail in the coffin 13-play, 84 yard drive following Taylor Rapp's interception to put the game away.

Several media outlets, mainly nationally have the Bills pegged to not only fail to win the AFC east for what would be a fifth-consecutive season but to miss the playoffs all together. It's an opinion shared by many and while most Bills fans won't go that far, there seems to be more concern than in recent years. The reality is Vegas and the gambling sites still very much believe in Buffalo, having them among the favorites to win their division, the conference and even the Super Bowl. Josh Allen is also second behind only Patrick Mahomes in MVP betting odds. Internally Patrick is significantly higher on the 2024 Bills than Joe and it leads to some spirited debates.

On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Aaron Quinn (Cover 1) for the third of what of six weekly Buffalo Bills seven-round mock drafts leading up to the real thing beginning April 27th. Unlike the first two mocks, this one has trades on the table for Buffalo although (spoiler alert: none were actually made)

Before drafting the guys spend some time going over six semi-realistic trade up options for Buffalo that contain prospects who quite possibly could be on the board between picks No. 15-25. The list includes three wide receivers, an offensive tackle, defensive end and defensive tackle. It becomes obvious that neither Aaron nor Patrick are willing to move up more than a few spots. They also take a stab at the latest they'd be able to pull the trigger on getting one of two top linebacker prospects.

They also review last week's mock that saw them go with wide receiver Josh Downs and offensive tackle Matthew Bergeron with their first two picks. Then it's mock time and again, while trades aren't mandatory they're definitely on the table.

On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by frenemy and recurring guest Joe From Queens to react to the good, bad and ugly of the Buffalo Bills season opening 34-28 victory over the Arizona Cardinals to kick off their 2024 campaign.

Without question it was far more stressful than most figured it would be but in the end Buffalo pulled out a one score victory, overcoming an early 17-3 deficit in the first half where the Bills looked completely out of sorts in every aspect. The guys talk about how "double dipping" actually proved to be a huge turning point of the game and a defense that didn't show up in the first half bottle down Arizona and Kylar Murray in the second half.

On the good side, Josh Allen is discussed as he showed why he's one of the best players in the league. Also, Greg Rousseau had one of if not his most impactful game as a pro on an afternoon where the defense desperately needed it in addition to a few UB kids stepping up in Cam Lewis and JaMarcus Ingram.

On the bad side, Ed Oliver and the defensive tackles were essentially missing in action all day. Patrick has an Oliver rant for the ages. There was also some ugly to this game too, including a few terrible officiating calls, stupid penalties and the Bills kickoff coverage. This and much more from today's opener.

On today's Talking Buffalo, it's another edition of The Podbag---the episode where the audience controls the narrative and Patrick Moran is answering questions and reading takes sent it from listeners and viewers of the show, mostly focused around the ongoing Buffalo Bills offseason.

The Bills lost a ton of veteran players and leaders this offseason, particularly Micah Hyde, Jordan Poyer, Tre White, Mitch Morse and Stefon Diggs. This coupled with their inability to get past the AFC divisional round the past three years has created a strong national perception, at least among media and fans that Buffalo's Super Bowl window is closing if not closed for this regime. As one fan of the show points out, it's a load of crap and uses multiple examples of great quarterbacks winning Super Bowl far older than Josh Allen currently is. Patrick talks about agreeing that the Bills window to win a championship with this core is still very much doable but does admit that it won't get any seemingly easier than it was the past handful of seasons, when Buffalo put themselves in great position to get it done.

There's several other interesting submissions this week, including a more predominant running game on the way, someone locked in on the development of second-year linebacker Dorian Williams, Sean McDermott's storied history of developing linebackers and Diggs' attitude being gone a positive for the Bills. There's also someone extremely happy that Lindy Ruff is here to coach the Sabres and plenty more.

The Bills offense was nearly unstoppable while following a promising start, the defense was nearly without a stop. However, Josh Allen showed why he's very likely the 2024 NFL MVP and the Bills were able to outlast the Lions. It’s another edition of The Podbag today on Talking Buffalo, the weekly episode where the audience controls the narrative as Patrick Moran responds to several questions and takes from consumers of this show and this is a heavily Buffalo Billscentric edition now that the team is in training camp and the offseason is officially over.

On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by writer, podcaster and sports media personality Joe Yerdon for their weekly chat, this week focused on the aftermath of Leslie Frazier not returning to the Buffalo Bills this coming season and the Buffalo Sabres continuing to very much stay alive in the NHL wildcard race.

The guys spend time discussing the unexpected departure of Frazier several weeks after the season ended with a report being largely attributed to burnout. Josh Allen will always be the singular biggest factor on if the Bills have a good season as long as he's in a Buffalo uniform and other things are obvious as well, but there's some players and scenarios that don't get discussed as much but could end up proving critical to the team's fortunes. Patrick lists and elaborates on some including the new anchor of the Buffalo offensive line playing the way they expect, the probability that unproven depth will have to step up on that line, a smallish kick and punt returner the Bills recently traded for, a young linebacker tasked with trying to adequately replace Matt Milano for the majority if not all the regular season and a pair of wide receivers who may be counted on more than you think, especially if Keon Coleman is a little slow coming out of the gate.

Patrick also has thoughts on a pair of interesting prospects the team just added to the prospects---a former first-round safety in Lewis Cine and a speedster wide receiver formerly of the Denver Broncos in Jalen Virgil. That plus Patrick really likes the Bills practice squad and plenty more.

On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Matt Warren for SB Nations to discuss several Buffalo Bills and AFC topics, including a discussion of why the Bills interior defensive line is largely underachieving so far this season.

The Bills have won three of their first four games and for the most the defense has played well. However, the defensive tackle has surprisingly been inconsistent if not a sore spot. Ed Oliver has looked ordinary at times and invisible at others while DaQuan Jones hasn't come close to the effective start he had over the first month last season, when it could be argued he was the team's defensive MVP early on. Patrick and Matt discuss both guys and try to figure out why they're not getting the production that at times becomes sorely missed, none so more than Sunday night in Baltimore when both were complete non-factors. They also discuss veteran addition Austin Johnson and third-round rookie DeWayne Carter getting off to very slow starts as well.

Defensive tackle play wasn't the only area of this team that feels exposed on the hells of the Bills embarrassing loss in Baltimore Sunday night. The guys discuss why they think this team has both a safety and wide receiver problem, something that's been brewing since before the start of training camp.

That said, the guys are careful to not completely overreact to one game and offer perspective on Buffalo winning three of their first four games. Matt also has some thoughts from around the league, including the Miami Dolphins being absolute toast already in the AFC east, the New York Jets a team that feels completely capable of imploding, the Kansas City Chiefs continuing to find ways to win every week, respect due to the Ravens and plenty more.

On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by frenemy and recurring guest Joe From Queens to discuss if the standard for success is too relaxed when it comes to Buffalo professional sports teams, and Joe also goes on (multiple) tirades over Buffalo Bills & Sabres owner Terry Pegula's unwillingness to speak publicly.

Whether they deliver or not, other markets like Philadelphia, Chicago, Boston, New York City, etc. have a mentality among fans and media that if you're not playing for championships then your season is a failure. That doesn't appear to be the case, at least not to Patrick in Buffalo. To him the standard in this market has been to make the playoffs, with maybe the goal posts moved to winning divisional titles in order for it to be evaluated as a successful campaign. Patrick doesn't buy it and thinks the standards the players and coaches are held to should be championship game appearances. Guys like Ed Oliver and Stefon Diggs, who've been great in the regular season seem to save their worst performances of the season for elimination game losses, which doesn't seem to carry the weight here it would in other markets.

As far as Pegula rarely ever speaking publicly and never about the performances of the teams he owns, it continues to have Joe incensed and that's apparent on today's show. He also has plenty to say about a local media that he feels doesn't hold the owner nearly accountable for it either. It makes for a tense and sometimes disagree-filled conversation between the two guys.

The Bills are locked into the second seed in the AFC after smashing the Jets last Sunday and will surely be resting most of their starters in Sunday's finale at Foxboro on Sunday. Of course, the Patriots are currently locked into to the first pick of the 2025 NFL draft so their incentive to win may not be the greatest either. Still, there's plenty of worthy talking points surrounding Buffalo and how this week gets handled and beyond.

Among them discussed is linebacker Matt Milano, who Patrick think played far and away the best of his four games against New York last week. Matt Warren has thoughts on if the version we saw on Sunday is good enough to feel confident in starting over Dorian Williams in the wildcard round when the playoffs begin. Both also have thoughts on how much if at all Milano should play against the Patriots--weighing one final tune up against the chance of getting hurt again.

The guys also hit on Von Miller playing very well last week, Mack Hollins continuing to be a great addition to the team, potential concern about Damar Hamlin's prolonged absence and if they're getting Josh Allen vs Lamar Jackson for MVP debate fatigue.

On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran goes over some of his biggest takeaways on the heels of the Buffalo Bills holding off the Baltimore Ravens, 27-25 to advance to the AFC championship game next Sunday against the Kansas City Chiefs.

As expected but no less annoying, the main national narrative stemming from this game is more about Baltimore finding a way to lose than the Bills earning the victory. It's something Patrick takes great issue with and points out several key ways in which the Bills are not getting nearly enough credit for, including great individual plays that forced all three Ravens turnovers, game planning and committing to not letting Derrick Henry run wild on them, the Bills rushing for more yards in the first half than the Ravens give up per game, going a perfect three-for-three in the red zone in the first half and being completely clean in the turnover department on their end.

Patrick also spends time highlighting how much better the Bills were in the trenches on both sides of the ball this time around compared to their first meeting in Baltimore back in Week four. In that game the Bills were bullied all over the field along the lines, and that was clearly not the case this past Sunday night.

Patrick also has thoughts on people who are vigorously either defending or lambasting Lamar Jackson's performance in this game, Baltimore's suspect game plan and coaching, Joe Brady not being at his best, a few things the Bills need to improve at if they're going to knock off the Chiefs to get the Super Bowl and plenty more.

It’s another edition of the “Finer Wings Club” on Talking Buffalo Podcast and Patrick Moran sits down with Buffalo Sabres beat reporter Lance Lsyowski of The Buffalo News for some wings, beer and a conversation taped at Belt Line Brewery and Kitchen in downtown Buffalo.

Neither of the guys has previously been to Belt Line Brewery and suffice to say, both are blown away by the quality of their wings, wings you don’t typically see at a brewery. More specifically, the "all dressed" specialty wing is spectacular, prompting Patrick to call it perhaps one of the five best specialty wings of anywhere in Western New York. The 716 (they describe as Buffalo hot) was very good as well while the Jamaican Jerk grilled was good but not on the same level as its two counterparts.

Of course there’s plenty of talk about the Sabres, including Lance’s thoughts on Jack Eichel on his leadership and his on-ice ability. They also talk about the revamped defense, the shocking way the goaltending situation plays out, who he thinks assumes leadership roles in the locker room, a few guys he expects to step up this season and a prediction on who the leading scorer will be.

On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran has his weekly thoughts and observations on the Buffalo Bills after watching the coaches All-22 film and analyzing the PFF grades of a dominating 32-6 victory over the New York Jets in an absolute must-win game that has Buffalo at 6-5 and in position to get themselves squarely back in the AFC postseason conversation.

The presence of new offensive coordinator Joe Brady was quite apparent both on the telecast and also in the film room. Patrick talks about the offense using motion and other looks significantly more than weeks past and a concerted effort to have the running backs matter in the passing game--evidenced by the backs catching two touchdown passes.

The defense looked every bit as strong on film and in the PFF grade spectrum as it appeared to, albeit against a really (really) bad offense. There were a few specific standouts worth talking about individually here.

Patrick also talks about a pair of polarizing players not helping the team currently, Gabe Davis and Von Miller and how he thinks things should play out with them going forward.

That and plenty more Bills notes, grades and thoughts from a performance strong enough to renew hopes among fans of the team catching fire.

The Bills shocked a lot of people this week by re-signing Matt Milano, Darryl Williams and Jon Felciano to contracts before they even hit the open market.  Jay explains the thinking that went into the signings, how they factor into the present and future and what these deals say about the organization and Brandon Beane’s ability to get things done and keep the core nucleus of this team together.

They also spend time talking about several potential Bills free agents targets as well as plenty of other teams around the league as well as speculating on a few players the Bills may be interested in.

Patrick also checks in on Jay’s family and a discussion on how life in the Skurski household changed during Covid with both Jay and his wife, WGRZ-TV’s Melissa Holmes working in the media.

They also completely rail on the Buffalo Sabres for continuing to embarrass themselves and a fan base quickly detaching from the team.   The Sabres lost at home on Monday night to Washington, 6-0, marking the fourth time in their last five home games they've been shut out.

On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Matt Warren of SB Nation to discuss among other things several reasons to like the Buffalo Bills in a playoff rematch over the Baltimore Ravens this coming Sunday, despite a growing sentiment that the Bills are actually the underdogs going in.

On Sunday night's opening betting line the Bills were a 1.5 favorite but less than 24 hours later the Ravens were favored in Vegas by the same margin. There's plenty of reasons for gamblers, fans and media like to give the edge to Baltimore----they're red hot, have six All-Pros on their roster including the now MVP betting favorite in Lamar Jackson, a stud running back and a defense that's been the best in the NFL over the second half of the season. Oh, there's also the matter that Baltimore crushed Buffalo at home all the way back in Week four of the regular season, 35-10.

Still, there's also plenty of reasons to like Buffalo's chances in this rematch and the guys spend a big chunk of the show talking about them. Among them is a lot of key players back for Buffalo that didn't play the Ravens earlier this season, Josh Allen taking his game to another level, literally in the playoffs, the potential to sustain drives and keep Baltimore off the field, and a potentially impactful injury to the Ravens if 1,000-yard wide receiver Zay Flowers (knee) can't make it back.

There's other factors discussed too, including the Bills being experts at harnessing at what they deem disrespect into motivation, Jackson having a spotty playoff history and perhaps most importantly, the game being in Orchard Park instead of Baltimore this time around.

Plus, are the Ravens players quietly as cocky about this game as most their fans? That, other things to like about Sunday, thoughts on the Kansas City/Houston game and much more.

On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is offering his thoughts and biggest takeaways after watching the All-22 film and pouring through the PFF grades from the Buffalo Bills six point victory over New England this past weekend before turning his full attention to a quite literally critical showdown with Miami in game No. 272 of the NFL season this Sunday night.

Some of Patrick's conclusions and takeaways include it being time for Joe Brady to have Latavius Murray take a seat and find a way to get Khalil Shakir a little more engaged in the passing game as doing so springs good results. He also raves about Gregory Rousseau's great game, Jordan Poyer's performance being a great example of why PFF grades can be really stupid, a few lineup surprises and some flowers tossed the way of Bills punter Sam Martin.

Of course all roads lead to Hard Rock Stadium in Miami this Sunday night with the AFC east and numbet two seed on the line---not to mention the realistic possibility of Buffalo missing the playoffs entirely. Patrick's got some thoughts on that and much more.

It has certainly been an eventful offseason for the Buffalo Bills with some of it expected and some not so much. Jay has several thoughts on the totality of what the Bills have done so far in terms of getting rid of plenty veterans (a few more surprising than others) and the guys they've added so far. He also has plenty of thoughts on the Diggs trade from all sides, including the perceived relationship Diggs had with both coach and quarterback and Jay's thoughts about how he'll ultimately be remembered for his time in Buffalo.

Jay also goes over a handful of wide receivers and some other positional players he likes for Buffalo in this draft. Should it be considered a foregone conclusion the Bills take a wide receiver with their first pick? What and who is realistically in play with it?

They also spend some time talking about the hugely disappointing Buffalo Sabres season that extended their own NHL record playoff drought. Jay, a fan who attends some home games shares his thoughts on the state of the team and if Terry Pegula should fire Don Granato after the season ends next week. On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is live from Imperial Pizza in South Buffalo for the first time in 2204 and is joined by Chris Trapasso from CBS Sports for a conversation centered around the Buffalo Bills, the NFL and the upcoming draft next month.

The last time Patrick and Chris got together for a remote show taping was at a Cheektowaga pizzeria in October 2021 and within five minutes it ended abruptly after Patrick accidently spilled a beverage directly on the audio recorder. Incredibly mishap history repeated itself this time too, as Patrick's faulty laptop cable sent him back home to retrieve another one and postpone this live streamed episode by nearly a hour.

All's well that end's well and the guys have a discussion about Imperial and their wings before getting into Chris becoming a regular fill-in host on One Bills Live, including him taking us behind scenes of what goes in with the show.

From there they get into the Bills offseason to this point and Chris provides insight into what he's liked, and hasn't about the moves Buffalo has made as the draft gets near, surprising some by actually praising the release of Mitch Morse before free agency.

From there they had to draft talk and Patrick r takes advantage of Chris's thorough knowledge of this year's draft prospects and asks him about several of them at a handful of positions the Bills are expected to address, especially wide receiver where we learn more about several prospects.
