09 Oct 2022Intro to Creating Brave Spaces | Season 3 | Ep. 100:41:52

Send us a text

SUMMARY

We are thrilled to launch our third season of Tackle Tuesday! This season, we will be exploring the topic of “Creating Brave Spaces” and how leaders can facilitate difficult conversations, work through conflict, and foster psychological safety. We will be exploring research and theory, sharing personal experiences, and providing leaders with practical steps in fostering a brave space.

In the first episode, Katie Allan and I unpack the term “safe space” and the reality that we mainly function in brave spaces, not safe spaces. A safe space is when there is 100% trust, you can open your mouth and say anything, and the concern that you will be judged negatively and lose credibility is minimal to nonexistent.

It promises to be an enriching learning journey. Be sure to listen this season.

08 Jan 2023Connecting With Others Part 1 | Season 3 | Ep. 300:33:59

Send us a text

SUMMARY

In the third episode of the third season of Tackle Tuesday podcast, we delve into how connecting with others is part of creating brave spaces. We connect the concept of emotional intelligence, which we discussed in episode two, to embracing diversity, demanding inclusion, and building belonging

In this episode, we discuss identity, different dimensions of identity, and the visible and invisible factors that make up who we are. This discussion ties to understanding diversity, which we discuss by looking at affirmative action and the current case in the US Supreme Court.

This was an exciting topic to reflect on, so tune in!

12 Feb 2023Connecting With Others Part 2 | Season 3 | Ep. 400:31:50

Send us a text

SUMMARY

In the fourth episode of this season of the Tackle Tuesday podcast, we explore part two of how to connect with others. Specifically, we will talk about psychological safety and the differences between diversity hiring and diversity hire

When discussing psychological safety – we talk about what it is and how to build it with the teams you work with. We also reflect on how psychologically safe are the teams you work with? Why is it sometimes hard to achieve psychological safety? What does the research say around how to foster psychological safety in the workplace and why does it matter? These questions are tackled in the episode!

What is the difference between diversity hiring and a diversity hire? This episode explores both concepts in addition to how our implicit biases may affect how we recruit and promote diverse talent within our teams. This is why we have to implement a thoughtful diversity and inclusion strategy (diversity hiring) and consider the value that metrics and measures may add to capture progress and gaps, rather than simply quotas to check a box (diversity hire). Personal and organizational examples are provided which made for an interesting discussion on hiring practices and highlighted the importance of ongoing support and inclusion practices. Be sure to tune in!

16 Apr 2023Responding to Challenges Part 2 | Season 3 | Ep. 600:38:56

Send us a text

SUMMARY

In the sixth episode of season 3 of Tackle Tuesday podcast, we explore part two of responding to challenges. Specifically, we talk about difficult conversations.

The episode focuses on the science of mindfulness and encourages listeners to consider the effects of simply taking a few breaths before beginning a difficult conversation. When we are in a highly stressed state, the part of our brain responsible for rational thinking is impaired and may impact how we respond to conflict. Changing the rhythm of your breath can signal relaxation and help you refocus.

We then discuss common types of difficult conversations and tips on how to respond through a four-step process.

Then some tips and tricks are shared to help you think about your soft and hard boundaries, as well as your values and the need to acknowledge and let go of guilt. 23 Feb 2024Managing the Process of Change Season 4 | Ep. 200:46:42

Send us a text

SUMMARY
Describe your personal experience with change in one sentence or less. Can you do it? Not so easy is it!? We kick off the episode by reflecting on this question to situate ourselves and our mindsets as we consider the change management process.

In this episode, we break down the change management process into its key phases and explore real-world examples to illustrate each phase and its significance. We also introduce various change management models and frameworks (e.g., ADKAR, Kotter's 8-Step Model) and discuss the pros and cons of different approaches.

We reflect on the development of our change management model and talk about the importance of simplicity. Sinogap Solutions Change Management Model has 3 stages: 1) current state (what is and isn’t working), roadmap (how do we engage people and processes to move towards the desired future state), and future state (where do we want or need to be/go). We also share the importance of crafting a vision statement to help articulate the need for change and desired outcome to inform and build awareness in others: “Because of (issue/challenge/need) a (change initiative) is needed to see (desired outcome)”.

12 Aug 2020Ep. 2: How To Transform Workplaces into a Climate of Possibility00:15:10

Send us a text

SUMMARY
Part of my role is to educate organizational leaders about the benefits of creating positive and resilient work cultures, which is the primary reason why I started Tackle Tuesday.

My mission is to improve people’s lives by transforming one workplace at a time. Moving away from a climate of command and control, towards a climate of possibility.

But how do you transform workplaces into environments that are inspiring, motivating, and engaging? Listen to find out.

FIVE PRINCIPLES IN CREATING AN ENGAGING AND PRODUCTIVE WORKPLACE ENVIRONMENT

  1. Employees are encouraged to reflect on previous knowledge and experiences and contribute them into projects and decision making.
  2. Employees have the freedom to approach work in their own way.
  3. Employees are encouraged to experiment and approach their work in a new way (e.g. try out the new skills in an environment that is risk/failure supportive).
  4. Employees regularly and frequently receive feedback on their performance so that they can improve.
  5. The work environment is positive and encouraging.

SMMARY
For the first episode, I decided not to use this as an opportunity to formally introduce myself and talk about why I started this podcast series. Initially this was a live webcast, but I decided to convert it into a podcast to make it more accessible for my listeners.

Some of the episodes you will hear are from the original webcast series and others will be new. At times I will be interviewing experts and entrepreneurs whose companies are leading the way in transforming workplace cultures, and other times, it will just be me, talking about a topic that I am passionate about that is relevant in today’s workplace context.

08 Sep 2020Ep. 5: How One Police Service Modernized Recruiting with Mentoring00:38:01

Send us a text

SUMMARY
In response to the Me Too and Black Lives Matter movements, we have seen a number of organizations rushing to tick the “Diversity & Inclusion” box, which mostly encompasses unconscious bias training. But when diversity and inclusion strategies do not go beyond basic compliance training, we miss an opportunity to truly to assess how diverse groups may experience our policies, programs, products, and services. The only way we can uncover inequities is to ensure we include diverse perspectives into our decision-making.

But many organizations still struggle in figuring out how to integrate diversity, equity and inclusion within their systems and processes. One organization that has successfully integrated D&I into their recruitment strategy, is the Edmonton Police Service, which saw a 61% increase in women recruits and a 118% increase in diversity overall. And one way they accomplished this was with their Recruit Mentoring Academy, which is the only one of its kind in North America!

22 Sep 2020Special Segment Taco Tuesday: Ep. 6 The Tale of Two Pandemics00:45:31

Send us a text

SUMMARY
This is our first episode in our special segment series, Taco Tuesday. Taco Tuesday is devoted to highlighting women in business and their efforts and achievements in creating inclusive and equitable societies.

When reviewing stats on where the world is at with gender parity, we can see that no single society has achieved total equality between women and men. And although, women are increasingly entering the workforce, gender inequality still exists. It exists in our pay, in leadership positions, funding for new ventures, and mentoring opportunities.

My guest today, Christine Channer Auguste, is all too familiar with gender and racial inequities. In spite of those challenges, Christine has achieved over 15 years of success in a variety of industries. Christine shares her experiencers in the corporate world and what led her to move from employee to CEO. Christine’s resilience, belief in herself and ability to pivot, will be inspirational to both women and men alike.

06 Oct 2020Special Segment Taco Tuesday: Ep. 8 Authentic Leadership00:41:02

Send us a text

SUMMARY
As more women enter the workforce and into formal leadership positions, we find ourselves searching for a way to lead that is authentic to our true selves.

Authentic means to live your life according to the needs of our inner being, rather than the demands placed on us by someone else. Your authentic approach to leading yourself and others has to align with your passion and purpose.

In my interview my interview with Emily Lopez, Global Head of Talent Strategy and Development at ConocoPhillips, she shares her career journey and the discoveries she made along the way in regards to embracing her strengths and using them to help others, inside and outside her organization.

20 Oct 2020Ep. 9: MasterTalk00:34:27

Send us a text

SUMMARY:
Brenden is the founder of MasterTalk, a YouTube channel he started to help the world master the art of public speaking and communication. He coaches purpose driven entrepreneurs on how to master their message and share their ideas with the world.

When I met with Brenden, I thought our conversation would focus mostly on the skills and confidence to master the art of public speaking, but in actuality what we discussed went a lot deeper than that.

Brenden explains how our ability to be successful in our relationships and our businesses is grounded in our ability to communicate. Brenden also provides tangible actions we can all take to start improving our communication skills today.

I learned so much from my short conversation with Brenden, as I am sure you will too. I hope you enjoy this week’s Tackle Tuesday episode.

SUMMARY
Have you ever wondered what innovation actually is? Is it a big idea that transforms life as we know it, or can it be something small that makes life easier? My conversation with Simon T this week provides much needed insight into what innovation is and what it looks like at an individual and organization level. 17 Nov 2020Taco Tuesday Ep. 11 - The Genesis of Women in Occupational Health and Safety Society00:37:10

Send us a text

SUMMARY
This week I had the opportunity to interview Paula Campkin, Vice-President of the Safety Centre of Excellence for Energy Safety Canada.

Paula shares her experience as to what it is like to work in a male dominated industry, the challenges she faced and how she overcame them. Paula identified there was a gap, other women were experiencing it too, so she did something about it! Paula co-founded the Women in Occupational Health & Safety Society (WOHSS), an organization with the mission to foster the advancement of women working in health and safety in Canada, to build better futures for women in OH&S. WOHSS is dedicated to support, educate, and help facilitate the advancement of women in the Health and Safety field.

Paula openly talks about some of the sexism she experienced and the things she did to create awareness in her male colleagues that certain behaviours are not acceptable! This is a great episode for women and men alike. We discuss how men can become authentic allies in the movement towards eliminating the leadership gender gap.

30 Nov 2020Ep. 12 Employee Productivity and Transformational Leadership00:22:45

Send us a text

SUMMARY
What is transformational leadership versus transactional leadership?

How do you measure employee productivity?

How does leadership influence productivity?

These are the questions I explore and answer in today’s Tackle Tuesday episode.

I have received so many questions on this topic that I thought it would be best to answer them in one of my episodes. This conversation is the first part of a two-part series.

In the first part we explore the balancing act managers play when trying to meet the needs of their organization with the needs of their employees and how we should be measuring employee productivity.

15 Dec 2020Ep. 13 Moving from a Culture of Compliance to a Culture of Commitment00:48:03

Send us a text

SUMMARY
For this week’s episode I had the opportunity to interview Sheri Benson, who is the principal owner of Thrive Safety Consulting. From the beginning of her career, she believed strongly that a thriving health and safety system requires strong leadership, a clear culture, and the trust in management that comes from consistent support and development of employees.

We had our conversation in October, but many of the concepts we discuss are especially relevant to what we are experiencing today as we are now in the second phase of closures and restrictions. Our conversation went beyond what safety is, we discussed…

  • What do you do when your values no longer align with your organization’s?
  • What it was like to launch her own business?

But my favourite part of our conversation was when we discussed how to change a company culture that is focused on compliance, towards creating a culture of commitment.

19 Jan 2021Ep. 15 Hardwired: How Our Instincts to be Healthy are Making Us Sick01:03:12

Send us a text

SUMMARY
In this week’s episode, I interviewed Dr. Robert Barrett and Dr. Louis Francescutti, who are the authors of Hardwired: How Our Instincts to be Healthy are Making Us Sick.

The book focuses on how as a human species we have evolved to survive, but in our modern world our survival instincts have created a health paradox. The things that are meant to keep us alive are in fact killing us. For the first time in thousand years, Americans are experiencing a reversal in lifespan.

16 Feb 2021Ep. 16 Finding Your Purpose00:54:45

Send us a text

SUMMARY
One of the most positive experiences I had in 2020 was launching my podcast. It gave me an opportunity to meet with amazing thought leaders, executives, authors, and coaches who have dedicated their life to unlocking the human potential. That is why I was excited to interview Julian Roberts for this week’s Tackle Tuesday episode. Julian is an ICF trained Executive and Leadership Coach who loves working with people and watching them achieve what they can’t yet see, but deep down really want.

Although many people say they want to be happy and live a meaningful life, evidence shows us this is not the reality for many of us. That is why my campaign, Leading with Heart – Ignite Your Inner Purpose, is focused on helping others develop a clear vision of their authentic self through the discovery of their purpose. So, when I interviewed Julian, I knew our conversation would not only ring true to me, but to many others as well.

Julian and I discuss how to develop a clear understanding of your purpose and the steps you need to take to discover your path for continuous growth. Julian also discusses how to develop the intrinsic motivation necessary to sustain yourself during the most challenging moments in your life.

02 Mar 2021Ep. 17 Finding Resilience in Darkness00:39:52

Send us a text

SUMMARY
For this week’s episode I had the opportunity to interview Christina Eanes, a former FBI violent crime analyst and senior manager. Christina is on a mission to help others achieve more in life – mainly by getting out of their own way.

In the past, I have openly shared my struggles as a new entrepreneur and how important it has been to develop my resiliency. That is why I was so excited to have Christina on my podcast. Christina has a unique take on how to develop resiliency in self and others – through escape rooms. Christina quickly discovered that the skills necessary to work through an escape room translated well into being successful in life and becoming better human beings.

We talked about what an escapelete is and how someone can use escape rooms to develop a grit and growth mindset.

If you are seeking support in shifting how you perceive and experience life’s challenges, you have to listen to this week’s Tackle Tuesday. I have no doubt you will want to sign up for an escape room experience and put your new learnings to the test!

Best practices and pitfalls of change management process

16 Mar 2021Ep. 18: Replaceable00:46:34

Send us a text

SUMMARY
Succession planning involves having the right people at the right time to fill critical positions in your organization, but yet many organizations don’t have a succession management process in place.

From my experience, I have witnessed organizational cultures degenerate to toxic levels because when the CEO left, they took their workplace culture with them. They didn’t think about or plan for a successor, which left the organization exposed to incompetent leadership.

Succession planning doesn’t have to be a complex and multi-layered process. Even the simplest design can have a positive return for a company. This week’s Tackle Tuesday episode focuses on just that!

Beth Armknecht Miller, CEO of Executive Velocity, and I discussed how to build leadership pipelines that are integrated into a succession management process that will ensure your company can fill critical positions at the right time to ensure strategic outcomes are achieved.

*This episode was recorded in November 2020. Comments made regarding "this year" was in reference to 2020.

01 Jun 2021Ep. 22 | Radical Acceptance00:46:31

Send us a text

SUMMARY

For this week’s Tackle Tuesday episode, I was joined by Life & Wellness Coach and Yoga & Meditation Instructor, Elyse Cathrea. Elyse helps folks go from feeling disconnected and stuck, frustrated in life, wondering things like “is this what it’s supposed to be like” to feeling excited about creating a life they are connected to. Through yoga and mindfulness Elyse helps clients reconnect to their bodies and themselves in order to build a life they love.

In this episode we dove into the concept of radical acceptance and how to ground your feelings through coming home to yourself. We discussed how important it is to allow ourselves the opportunity to feel all of our feelings, accept them, and them use them to make us stronger and happier.

Our conversation had lots of eye-opening moments for me, and I have no doubt it will be the same for you.

26 Oct 2021Woman Up! | Season 2 | Ep. 200:43:23

Send us a text

SUMMARY

Over the last year and a half, women have made important strides in gaining representation in senior leadership, but the pandemic continues to take a toll as women are significantly more burned out than their male counterparts.

In this month’s episode of Tackle Tuesday, I discuss some of the challenges I faced as a female leader in a male dominated industry and how that led me to designing the Woman Up! program.

I also discuss the confidence gap and imposter syndrome theories and why I believe these theories create more challenges for women seeking entry into leadership positions.

I have experienced lack of confidence throughout the years, even with the launching of Woman Up, but my stepson recently reminded me how important it is to be a role-model and woman up myself. So that is what I am doing!

I hope you enjoy this month’s episode and the personal stories I share.

28 Dec 2021Love as a Business Strategy | Season 2 | Ep. 400:55:09

Send us a text

SUMMARY
In this month’s episode, I hosted a round table style interview with Mohammad Anwar and Jeff Ma, senior leaders at Softway Solutions a software tech company and co-authors of the bestselling book, Love as a Business Strategy.

Mohammad and Jeff shared that after years of continued growth and success the company reached a point where their aggressive growth strategies failed them, and they began to lose clients and profits in an almost fatal downward spiral.

After rethinking their business culture and hoping to reverse the downward trend, they were inspired upon Mohammad hearing a football coach who used love as a strategy to help support the whole team. Mohammad was astonished that the team embraced love in this way and began to make small changes to shift the culture at Softway to put love at the heart of the business.

Listen in to discover Softway Solution’s Platinum Rule and how empathy has been the necessary element to increased diversity and inclusion in their teams.
