07 Aug 2020Data Collection is Boring Part 2: More with Data and WMS Pioneer John Hill00:47:38

In the part 2 interview with John Hill, he continues to stress the importance of improving processes before implementing technology. In other words, what is your why? It sounds like common sense but from my experience you improve project success when the goals and realistic expectations have been defined.

John then goes into a short course on how to select and justify warehouse technology/solutions. Given John’s background and experience this is gold.

And John agrees, the future is bright. WMS packages and companies are morphing into broader solutions to include warehouse controls, robotics, execution systems, and artificial intelligence. This is a common theme I hear on other Supply Chain is Boring guest. (check out future episodes).

Mr. Hill has truly been influential in the space over the past ½ century. He has a zest for what he does and is still preaching the MHI gospel.

Thank you John for sharing with me and the Supply Chain is Boring audience.

08 Jan 2021A Discussion with Bruce Welty Part 2: 5 of the Top 10 Richest People in the World Made Their Money in SCM?00:31:57

Bruce Welty has been a pioneer and visionary in automating warehouses since before the Internet. He has built, bought and sold some of the industry’s most innovative companies. He’s automated warehouses for Fortune 500s, e-Commerce startups, and even built a fulfillment company that ships more than $1 billion worth of e-Commerce orders each year. It was his direct experience with warehouses, fulfillment, and robotics that inspired him to build an entirely new solution.

Bruce Welty never wanted to build robots; Amazon.com made him do it. Starting in the 1970s, Welty, specialized in software for managing warehouses. In 2009, he shifted gears and founded Quiet Logistics, a company that used robots from Kiva Systems of North Reading to dramatically reduce warehouse operating costs. But three years later, retailing titan Amazon.com acquired Kiva, cutting off Welty’s robot supply. He saw only one hope — build his own robots.

In part 2 of this 2 part series, we sat down with warehouse technology industry veteran Bruce Welty to learn about his vision of warehouse automation, autonomous mobile robots, and Moravec’s paradox.

18 Dec 2020A Discussion with Bruce Welty, Part 1: Is a Robot in Your Future?00:36:43

Take a listen to Bruce’s story about his career and success tips for starting a business.

Bruce Welty is the Founder and Vice Chairman of Quiet Logistics. Bruce has been a pioneer and visionary in automating warehouses since before the Internet. He has built, bought and sold some of the industry’s most innovative companies. He’s automated warehouses for Fortune 500s, e-Commerce startups, and even built a fulfillment company that ships more than $1 billion worth of e-Commerce orders each year. 04 Sep 2020Supply Chain Management is Boring: Interview with Greg Cronin, Part 200:29:40

This is part 2 of a 2 part interview with the Supply Chain Technology Company whisperer Greg Cronin.

In part 1 we discussed how Mr. Cronin got into the supply chain space and the impact he has had. In this part 2 interview, Mr. Cronin comes out of retirement, again, and is excited about the supply chain technology market potential over the next five years. It all sounds pretty boring. So let’s see if Greg can prove me wrong.

Over his career, Mr. Greg Cronin has advised and led several companies to the next level of business expansion by identifying key pain points and creating successful solutions for customers. Companies include AutoStore, Honeywell Intelligrated, Quiet Logistics, Manhattan Associates, and McHugh/RedPrairie/JDA, among others. Cronin’s know-how, in both the automated hardware and innovative “smart” software fields makes him sought after by emerging supply chain technology companies. Throughout his career, Greg has established and maintained a strong and loyal network of industry connections including former customers and peers, analysts, media, and consultants.
