08 Feb 2022The Power of a Plant-Based Diet | Dr. Gemma Newman00:48:24

Dr. Gemma Newman worked in medicine for 17 years and is the senior partner at a family medical practice where she has worked for 12 years. She is a founding member and ambassador for Plant Based Health Professionals in the UK, PBHPUK, and a member of BSLM, British Society of Lifestyle Medicine, and is very passionate about holistic health and lifestyle medicine. Dr Newman was trying to help her patients get better, but she was mainly only able to curb, or lessen the amount that people got worse with their illnesses and felt there had to be a better way to treat sickness and disease. It wasn’t until she came across the plant based diet that she began to realize people really could get better when they focused their diets on plant based nutrition.

“I was completely astounded to find that his blood pressure had completely normalized. It had gone to optimal levels. 120/80 millimeters of mercury in such a small space of time. Honestly I was more surprised than he was. I kept on rechecking it, and I asked him to come back and he came back 3 times, and then I did his medical and every single time his blood pressure was perfect. I knew then how powerful this could be.” 11:51

Make sure you’re hydrated and moving your body/exercising in order to combat these symptoms. On day 3 many will start feeling amazing while others might feel about the same as 2, but on day 4 you’ll start feeling really good and light/healthy. Day 5 will be building on day 4’s amazing feelings and you’ll want to keep going. Your resources are already activated. Your heart is racing to get all those things achieved on the to-do list.” 6:08

We need vitamin D, we need to make sure we have other minerals, our vitamin K, those kinds of things, and so I do think that calcium gets overblown as far as its importance in our bones. We do need it, but we don’t probably need as much as we think we do and we need to make sure that we have all these other elements in place.” 13:32

“One thing that I heard that was preventing them from eating healthier, despite what the doctors were saying, is that it was too expensive, and at that time I was sharing a bedroom with two other people, I rode a bike everywhere, I didn’t have any money, yet I was still eating plant based. So it was confusing to me that that was something that was such an obstacle, that it could possibly lead to death. My family literally, they were dying.” 11:36

Today we talk to Michael Herschel Greger while he walks on his treadmill, who is an American physician, author, and professional speaker on public health issues, best known for his advocacy of a whole-food, plant-based diet, and his opposition to animal-derived food products. Having been in the health game for an extended period of time, Michael has a lot of wisdom to share with us and we ask him all kinds of questions, such as what he thinks about dieting. Evidence based dieting is the best way to go with permanent changes to dietary habits. Otherwise people will just go back to where they started. We talk about the current way animals are raised for food and the risks it poses, such as creating a breeding ground for the spread of disease and sickness.

“Diets don’t work by definition because going on a diet implies at some point you gotta go off the diet, and permanent weight loss requires permanent dietary change. Healthier habits just have to become a way of life. And if they’re gonna be life long, you want to lead to a long life, but thankfully the single best diet for weight loss just so happens to be the safest, cheapest way to eat for the longest healthiest life and that is a diet centered around whole plant foods.” 10:41

21 Sep 2021Spectacular Superfoods | How Specific Plants Can Transform Your Health00:22:05

Kristel and Michael talk in this episode about what their favorite superfoods are and why we use superfoods. Just one handful of berries contains a whole plethora of concentrated nutrients, providing our bodies with the vitamins and minerals they need to thrive. We tell about the products we use to help supplement our bodies to improve various aspects such as energy, clear mental state, and even fertility. We talk about an awesome palm tree we found that is so high in antioxidants that people who consume it have way less wrinkles than someone who doesn’t consume it as they age.

What are our favorite superfoods? 0:52
Micronutrients 2:18
Great story of someone using our mixes 7:02
Kristel’s dietary plan 10:14
Some of the ingredients in our mix 13:29
Healthy bowel movements 16:33

“Micronutrients obviously have vitamins and minerals, but they’re so much more than that. Obviously when you take supplements it’s often only about the vitamins and minerals, but there are so many more nutrients in food and in plants that our body needs to thrive and to truly be healthy.” 2:19

Kristel & Michael’s favorite superfood (mixes) for everyday use:
→ why use superfoods / why we should focus on micronutrients first (vs macronutrients!)
→ what are superfoods
→ why we use certain mixes
→ how / different recipes
→ what time of the day
→ what we eat in a day

15 Sep 2021The Power of the Mind with Kelly Gores | Healing with Mental Power01:04:50

On today’s episode we have Director, Writer, and Producer of the Heal Documentary, book and summit, Kelly Noonan Gores. We talk about the kind of things we should allow into our bodies and then the role that stress plays in many people’s lives nowadays. Stress is a natural response our body has to deal with dangerous situations, but this state can put people into a vulnerable state where they’re more susceptible to disease and other ailments. We all bathe/shower every day to get rid of the gunk we’ve accumulated the previous 24 hours and our mind is the same way. We need to cleanse ourselves of the dirt in our heads to be in a better mental state. The placebo effect is a real thing where people are taking something that doesn’t have any effect on their bodies whatsoever, but because they believe it’s going to affect them, their bodies will react as if they were taking the actual thing. Doctors can have a large impact on the patient based on how positive or negative they are with the treatment the patient receives.

You have to have that, I mean it’s different for everybody, but if ice cream is your thing, if you have an ice cream cone, don’t freak out or stress out about it. Really enjoy it. That enjoyment of that experience that brings you so much pleasure and you do it once in a while, that’s not going to have a detrimental effect on your body because it can process that, but you gotta have that 80-90% of the time be really healthy nutrition dense food.” 10:17

21 Dec 2021Moon Days: A Period Policy Every Employer Should Consider | Kristel De Groot00:17:09

Moon days are days when women are going through their period and just don’t feel like dealing with other people. The idea is to be able to talk to other people, such as those with whom you work and let them know what you’re going through so they can understand that you may be struggling. The goal is to make it easier to talk about your period, especially with the men around you, so that if you need to take a day or even just a half day off, they can understand. There needs to be a shift in the way we approach the period and make it more normal to discuss, so that’s our goal with this moon day idea.

What are moon days? 1:09
Understanding how hormones influence a woman’s wellbeing 4:31
How we can make the period more understood and less taboo 6:47
Moon balance 10:21
Having less painful periods 12:53

“If you’re listening to this and you’re like, “Yes, we totally need this in our organization.” Please, please go talk to your HR department manager. Go talk to, whether it’s the owner of the company or your manager, I think that we all should start talking about it and let’s make this rule within each organization that a moon day is something we can talk about and we can talk about periods to really truly empower women.” 10:44

“I know a lot of people cringe when they say, ‘But where do you get your protein?’ because we hear that all the time, but that’s a genuine question. People really do, they’re worried because Wall Street tells them, all these companies tell them they need to eat a lot of meat and dairy for protein. They really, truly believe that, so I honor that. I take them seriously, and I answer them with as much information in a friendly way as I can because they’re not just being rhetorical.” 22:33

18 Jan 2022Kristel & Michael - End of Year Highlights | Your Super Business Update00:20:06

It’s just us in this episode today and we are giving you the insights on the end of year and our new goals, habits, routines for this year, and then we’ll talk a little bit about detox and meditation. We like to evaluate our year at the end by going through the calendar, looking at the highlights of every month to see where we’re at and see how much we’ve done. We then start looking at our daily routines to evaluate what things we want to adjust, for example we want to eat out less because we feel better on the days we don’t eat out. We like to make a list of all the things we want to do for the coming year, separate those things/activities into various categories, and then start inserting those things into each month so that we can accomplish those goals and desires.

  • Closing up the year with mental health and evaluation 1:04
  • Daily routines and setting goals 5:10
  • Meditation 10:27
  • Goals we can share with others 14:16
  • We’d love to hear your goals! 16:34

“What I realized in the beginning of the year is when I look back on last year, whenever I included meditation more, besides just eating well and moving, but really giving me the time like 30 minutes a day, or even just 10 minutes a day to close my eyes and just sit with myself, these were the better days.” 10:27

25 Jan 2022Maintaining a Healthy Weight Without Restrction | Kristel de Groot00:21:40

We see so many messages out there about weight loss and people setting a goal of wanting to lose weight because we live in a time when so many people struggle with weight gain or obesity, so we want to share some tips to help with weight loss and how being plant based can really help you to be at a healthier weight. Kristel played tennis all through high school and college, which helped keep her fit, but even so she still at times would put on weight. She came across the movie “Forks Over Knives” and was so impressed with what researchers had found that she decided to change her diet overnight, which has changed her life for the better ever since. “It’s really important to start focusing on how you’re feeling and not how much you weigh.”

“The interesting thing that I really learned now, over those last [9 years], and it has been a journey, I’m really living in complete freedom of food right now. I don’t count, I don’t restrict, I don’t feel guilty and I really, really wish every woman could feel like this about food.” 9:16

Bryan Guy Adams is a Canadian guitarist, singer, composer, record producer, and photographer. He has sold over 75 million records and singles worldwide, but what many may not know about him is that he lives a plant based lifestyle. He started living plant based life back before it was a well known thing and it made going on tour a bit difficult, especially when most things his crew would eat were not plant based, but when he would get tested to make sure he wasn’t anemic, everything was always really good and the positive benefits he experienced became pretty clear.

“The longer it takes to digest things, the more possibility that things get blocked in your system, or they stay longer, and that’s where the beginning of things that can happen to you start is in the digestion system. So the idea of food combining is to try and make your food get into your system as quickly as possible and out of your system as quickly as possible. So you don’t want to have to hold things in.” 8:06
