09 Mar 2020103 | Talking ALL THINGS money in business01:02:10

It's time to start talking about MONEY. We all have a different relationship to money and, for me this has changed a lot over the last 3 years.

Joined by Ellie, founder of This Girl Talks Money, we share how we've moved from being quite passive about money to gaining awareness to now being intentional with how we spend and what money means in our business.

Managing money really is an ongoing journey and no one's perfect! But it's my hope that by opening up the conversation you can start thinking about your money story, and ask yourself why you have the mindset you do around money.

Ellie has so many great insights and resources around streamlining your finances, or setting yourself goals, so be sure to go find out more on her blog as well.

As business owners, it’s easy to fall into the trap of seeing busyness as a measure of success, but being busy doesn’t always mean you're being productive.

Joining me today is Sarah Boyle - A positive productivity mentor to chat all about how to do the focused work that moves you forward, not just filling the hours.

As Sarah so wisely shares in this episode, productivity is a skill we can learn and master not a personality trait, and in this episode, we share 4 top tips to help you kick off September feeling focused and productive.

07 Jan 2019045 | Prioritising your mindset, transitioning back into work and productive goal setting w/Sophie French00:37:54

The start of the year isn’t always the easiest. You’re transitioning back into work after taking time off, everyone seems to be adding to the noise of ‘new year new me’ and you’re sat questioning if you’re capable of reaching the goals you’re setting…

This episode is a total must listen if you’re resonating with any of the above. I sat down with Sophie French (mindset message coach and total babe) to talk all things tackling your mindset, transitioning back into work after a break, setting goals in the right way and knowing you’re the one who can make those happen.

PS- there’s another guest episode up today with the lovely Julia Day! Why two episodes you ask?! Well, both these women are guest hosts on my new retreat Gather & Growand as tickets launch this week (!!) I thought I would get them on the podcast to share their expertise and give you a taster of what they’re bringing to the retreat!

She talked more about her story into business, the common barriers she sees female entrepreneurs facing and the part we can play to press for progress in the workplace. It’s a good one!

28 Sep 2020129 | Can you make millions and be value driven?00:51:41

I've always been a big believer in the idea that running your business in a value drive way (aka ensuring everything you do lines up with your personal values) is the way to go.

As I grow my business I'm interested to see if that changes or if it's harder to sustain as the numbers scale.

It was a no-brainer for me as to who to unpack this conversation with as Lisa Johnson lives and breathes her values whilst turning over a £1,000,000+ plus a year.

Tune in to this conversation for an honest insight into why values are important, how they influence how you do things, and how to sustain that whilst you scale.

04 Apr 2019058 | Friends with an entrepreneur – an honest conversation with my best friend about how my work impacts our relationship00:53:20

Something I’m all about exploring here on the podcast is not only the impact running a business has on us as business owners, but also how it can affect those closest to us.

It’s safe to say that the dynamics of my friendships have shifted since I started my business. Through experience, I've discovered that expecting friends to be followers/supporters of my work is an unhealthy line to draw, for both them and me. It can be all too easy to begin associating how a friend feels about you to how involved they are with your business and this is something Bec and I have really worked through over the years.

The truth is, over time (and trust me this has been a learning curve) I’ve found so much joy in having my friends stay in their lane and look for specific business in support in those who 'get it'. In this episode, my best friend joined me to explore how it’s looked from her perspective; it really was a fascinating episode to record and one I think so many of you will resonate with! Be warned - it’s a VERY chatty conversation so if that’s your thing, then you’re in for a treat…

03 Oct 2019078 | What people don't tell you about success01:07:33

Last week on Instagram I shared a quote that resonated with me... "It's windier at the top" and while this is a tricky, slightly uncomfortable topic to explore, I think that's the very reason that we should face it head on and have the conversation.

Personally, I attach a lot of feelings to levels of success, whether that is being fully booked with clients, earning an certain amount or being invited to an event etc and it's very easy for us to always think 'I'll feel successful when... "

Having now reached some of these goals I know that from the outside everything can look shiny and perfect, but the fear and self doubt continues and gaining ''success" also brings along a new set of challenges.

My co-host this week, Molly Masters, has had great success launching her business, Books That Matter, but this chat takes us behind the scenes to break down the perception of everything going effortlessly well. From how to manage expectations to why it's so important to celebrate the wins and focus on what makes us feel happy - it was a really interesting conversation to open up.

What are your thoughts on the episode? As ever I'd love to hear from you over on Instagram!

02 Mar 2020102 | The next evolution of my business - an inside look00:27:20

My business is going through a big shift at the moment. Whilst it's not visible yet, I wanted to share a behind the scenes look at what is happening in my business right now.

As business owners it's easy to get in a routine of how we do things because they've worked so far. But, as you know, for me working big picture is so key.

For me there are three stages when it comes to making shifts within my business. It starts with a question, or a niggling feeling. The next stage is finding the answers, which is where I am now.

And what does stage three look like? Well this is putting the clarity and understanding into action and creating 'a new normal'.

It's been a long process to get clear about what I want this shift to look like, so I hope this episode gives you an insight into how I work through this process and gets you thinking about some changes you would like to make yourself.

Female networking and women only groups have played a big role in my business. Through these communities I’ve made friends, built my business and found a support network.

Hanna is a leadership coach and founder of As We Are, a platform to promote diversity in senior leadership through coaching and workshops.

12 Mar 2019057 | Teenage business owners and what starting out young REALLY looked like 00:47:10

If you're familiar with my story, you'll know I begun my business at age 17 and over the years, have definitely noticed the impact that starting so young has had on both me and my work.

To explore this topic, I thought I'd sit down with a guest who shares a similar story...

Polly Vadasz is the illustrator and shop owner behind Sighh Studio - a stationery & accessories brand selling beautifully and intentionally designed desk pads, greetings cards, keyring and a whole lot more. Starting out at just 15 (yes really) selling her illustrations through Instagram, Polly successfully sustained her online shop throughout university and now runs her shop full time, sharing her feel-good stationery and accessories with the world.

I loved talking with Polly and discussing our shared experiences; from the stories of how we started out and the impact making a lot of money as teenagers had on us to why our naivety and enthusiasm was fundamental in the early days and how friends / family reacted, we cover the realities, pros and cons of it all!

27 Jan 2020091 | Is burnout a rite of passage? And does busy equal success?00:58:47

This question has been raised before on the podcast but I'm interested to give a real chunk of time and space to the idea that being busy all the time, equals success.

With the amount of time you put into your business being glamourised I wanted to explore this conversation with Jo, founder of Mad & Sad Club, who's mission is to show that you can be successful without burning yourself out.

As someone who's has done the long hours building my business I am realising that now that hard work isn't the hours sat at your desk but, hard work is working with intention.

12 Jul 2022191 | Ending a business... the challenges, regrets and lessons with Liam Cavanagh00:49:59

We hear a lot about the stories of businesses that continue to grow... but what about the ones that get shut? What leads to a decision like that? And how does it feel to be ending something you've put so much into?

Todays episode explores exactly that as I sit down with my friend (and office pal) Liam to discuss his recent decision to step away form his start-up, Bel. Tune in to hear why it's important to ignore ego and the 'sunk cost phallacy' when making a decision like this, be inspired to see 'failure' in a positive light and help us settle the debate on whether HSM or Pitch Perfect is the better franchice...

01 Jun 2020116 | How do you build good culture? How do you treat your team well?00:27:39

I‘m often asked how my team mate Emily, and I have built a good dynamic, and while it’s not completely accidental it’s something that I want to ensure continues and develops as the business grows.

While I can say from my experience what I think has helped contribute to that working relationship I asked Hanna, founder of As We Are, to join me to share some of her expertise as a leadership coach.

We dig into what creates a good company culture and how to implement it to make a positive work place for yourself, your team and even your freelancers.

It’s easy to assume company culture relates to bigger organisations or corporate companies, but actually how we want people to feel when they work with us is a key factor in growing and sustaining our business.

Being intentional about the culture of your business means you can make sure it’s aligned with your values and your vision - and it’s not just about free snacks and bean bags.

Hanna has so much knowledge on the requirements that need to be met to create a happy and safe work place, which highlighted to me how team culture is actually a foundational piece of building your business.

As my business grows and shifts, Emily and I are looking at how we want our roles in the business to feel and defining that company culture, so welcome to the first sneak peak behind the scenes as we start to lay the future foundations!

27 Nov 2018037 | A mother, a business owner and everything in-between w/Megan Collins00:58:42

I’ve always been in total awe of mothers. The closest I come to having a baby is caring for my dog and running my business, a world away from being responsible for breathing tiny humans. When considering who to explore this topic with, I knew that Megan, as a mother of two young boys and the creative behind Blossom & Crumb, would have so much to share / bring.

Megan has run Blossom & Crumb, a wedding and special occasion cake company, from her home in London since 2015. She specialises in unique & modern wedding cakes with a focus on remarkable design and flavour - something I can definitely attest to!

I visited her beautiful home in London and we talked about the story behind Blossom & Crumb, why as women we can’t ‘have it all’, how Megan practically juggles motherhood / business and what it’s looked like to grow a business alongside her two sons.

Running a business teaches you a LOT about who you are, what you want, what you're good at and in turn, what your weaknesses are too. The more self aware I've become of what my weaknesses are and how to conbat them, the easier running my businesses has become, so in todays episode I thought I'd let you in.

Tune in to hear my 4 biggest weaknesses, how they impact my businesses and what I'm doing to help myself move forwards despite them.

12 May 2019060 | Managing mental health when you’re running a business or growing a side-hustle w/Josephine Brookes00:54:41

As it's Mental Health Awareness week, I’ve partnered with planning and productivity extraordinaire Josephine Brookes to discuss our experiences of mental health whilst building a business on both of our podcasts.

If you’re not already familiar with Josephine, she’s a planning and productivity mentor for side-hustlers and an all round lovely human. Her philosophy is all about doing less and focussing on the tasks that really matter, rather than being busy and trying to get lots done - something I’m all too guilty of!

In this episode, Josephine shared honestly about how having a side hustle has interacted with her mental health, why being conscious of where she’s at each day is so important, how she ensures balance and time out remains a priority and why self care isn’t selfish or counterproductive. It was SUCH an insightful / honest conversation which I can’t wait to share with you…

Let’s be real, navigating money in a business can be and has been for me, incredibly complex. From paying tax and making investments to dealing with the fluctuating income and separating business from personal, there’s a whole lot to figure out and understand.

When I first started my business (tbt to 18 year old me in 2016) I spent a good 18 months being fully unaware of the financial stuff. In this episode I shared more about what it looked like to become conscious of the money I was making, spending & saving within my business.

12 Oct 2021156 | My experience of being bullied online | Part 101:09:20

Do not panic, it's not Monday morning, I have in fact swapped to uploading new episodes on a Tuesday and I'm here with not one, but two new podcast episodes for you today.

It's a big topic we're tackling this week, so I wanted to bring you double the helping to firstly share my experience with you and secondly to offer some advice and encouragement if you're going through a similar thing.

So this time last year I got trolled for the first time. It was during the launch of my group programme, a time I was showing up and shouting loudly and to say the experience was tough would be an understatement, so in this episode, I wanted to let you in a little more on what that looked like for me and how I navigated my way through it joined by my brilliant friend Jess.

If online abuse is something you're currently being challenged by or want to know more about the impact of then join us for this chat and stick around for Ep 157 where I'll share some of the things that helped me navigate through it.

08 Nov 2018034 | Working with depression, lean in or opt out00:25:01

This episode is an incredibly personal one for me. You may already know I run a business, but what you might not know is I do this alongside suffering with depression and everyday I’m presented with two options; to lean in, or to opt out.

In this episode, I discuss my own experiences with depression, how it interacts with my work and how I’ve established a schedule that respects my mental health.

*Depression affects everyone differently and so I fully acknowledge the ways I deal with it may not work for everyone.*

I don't heavily promote my coaching work. I'm also regularly booked out with dream clients. Now I don't say that to show off - I say it to show you what's possible when you get intentional about the way you show up online.

In this Small Talk episode I give you an inside look at the 4 factors which I recognise have played a role in making that reality... if you're service based and curious how to hear how I've built things, tune in!
