07 Sep 2022Fr. Mychal Judge: Saint of 9/1100:26:49

Fr. Mychal Judge was a hero of 9/11, but he was a hero long before the attacks. He was a well loved AIDs victim advocate, a gay man, a recovering alcoholic, a friend to the homeless, a man with a radical love that often rubbed church officials the wrong way.

Personally, he reminds me of the Catholicism I grew up with - charitable, open, and loving. One day, I pray this man will become a saint, and this episode is my dedication to him, and in hopes of that future cause.

Fr. Mychal Judge, pray for us.

31 Aug 2022St. John the Baptist: A Scholarly Look at the Baptizer (Part II) 00:24:51

St. John the Baptist is an incredible interesting figure. While there is lore around secret societies that argue his importance, there is also double speak, contradiction and just odd language in the canonical gospels as well. There seems to be an attempt to both play-up St. John, while also downplaying him.

What were the writers of the gospel of St. John hiding? Did he really believe he was the prophet Elijah? Did he have doubts? Was the baptism real?

This and much more will be uncovered in this second part of our two part series!

27 Sep 2023Centering Prayer: An Overview + Defense00:28:48
One of the most interesting practices to spring from The Cloud of Unknowing is Centering Prayer. This is a simple yet profound method of connecting with the divine, though it's also had some criticism. Here I hope to share a balanced take on a very fruitful practice.
03 Nov 2021Protection Psalms 00:57:17

Note: This episode and others from this time frame reflect an early stage in my spiritual journey.  While I may or may not not hold these views any longer, I am still keeping these episodes up.

Why?  Because this is also a historical and folklore podcast, and the folk practices or beliefs discussed are still accurate from an educational and cultural standpoint.

However, if you are interested in my more current views and spiritual outlook, check out the “Reflection” series I recorded in January of 2023.

______

Psalms are more than just songs of praise - they are mystical written powerhouses that invoke not only emotion, but intercession from the divine. Whether it's a hoodoo rootworker, a faith healer, a cuarandero or even your local priest - it's not uncommon to see Psalms used in ways to invoke  a desirable outcome. They can be used for protection, prosperity and even for hexing and justice work.

In our first in a long series on the Psalms, today's episode will cover Psalms 91, 23, 24, 35, 18 and 110 - all of which can be used to protect yourself, your home and your energy from the unwanted.

Sources include The Power of Psalms by Anna Riva and Lucky Mojo's Hoodoo Bible Magic.

31 May 2022The Many Titles of the Virgin Mary 00:40:31

Mary Most Powerful, Mary Most Pure, Comforter of the Afflicted, Queen of the Angels and many other names have been attributed to the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Why does Mary have so many forms? Do we need to venerate a certain form for a particular cause?

In this episode we discuss the many forms of Mary, what they mean for our practice, and five lesser known titles that work really well in your devotions.

The forms we discuss:

  • Our Lady of Prompt Succor
  • Mary Undoer of Knots
  • Our Lady of Good Health
  • Our Lady of Good Counsel
  • Mary Defeater of Satan

22 Mar 2023Mystical Prayer: Praying Like the Saints 00:29:43

We are often told to pray - but we are never taught how to pray. In fact, we are often only taught one type of prayer (vocal prayer) and aren't aware of the many steps and types of prayers, these same steps were used by the saints to bring them closer to God.

In this episode we will discuss the mystical journey of prayer. This is the final "intro" episode before we dive into the lives of the mystics.

There are thousands of general folkloric methods we could discuss, but I tried to keep these in a folk Catholic sphere, as well as practices I personally do or are well-known.

18 May 2022St. Anne, Mother of Mary 00:24:16

St. Anne has long been revered by not only Christianity but is also mentioned in Islam and was a main saint of worship by the early church.

Her appeal comes from being a rather relatable saint - not a martyr or a nun - but instead a mother, wife and grandmother.

Granted, mother and grandmother to two very pivotal individuals.

This episode discusses her stories, origins as well as how she can be petitioned for assistance in a variety of ways.

I do feel this episode in particular was a jumping off point towards understanding the depth of Catholicism, but if re-recording I would change and clarify a few things.

_____

You have been robbed, lied to, and deceived.

You have been told that Catholicism is full of rigid ideals, repetitive rituals and a lack of mystery and magic. You that's not wrong - that is certainly the way it is now - but before over-intellectualism got it's nasty hold on Catholicism, it was a system wrought with ceremonial magic, cleansing, banishing, and using the power of God to heal, manifest, even curse.

This episode, I invite you to reconstruct your magical belief system around Christ, Mary and the Saints. Not as a religion, but as a spiritual doorway into discovering your own power, and the magical power of the divine.

Many people tell me they want to work with Catholic spirits due to their ancestry, but then tell me all of the issues they have with Church dogma. Here I not only discuss the importance of a practice outside the church -  but I also discuss these objections, and offer solutions that make sitting with these figures more palatable.

I then close the episode discussing some of the most powerful tools, rituals and practices in folk Catholicism.

12 Apr 2023The Interior Castle of St. Teresa of Avila00:54:11

Free Resource: The Prayers of the Interior Castle Simplified (Sorta)

In the final episode in our trilogy on St. Teresa of Avila, we look into her best-known work, The Interior Castle. Here she discusses the path of the soul on its journey to God. While the Interior Castle is a very deep work, for simplicity, I'll be focusing on the main grades of prayer in it's "mansion". This is a very approachable way to view the Castle, and also a practical approach.

I am also including a link above to a written overview of the Castle from the viewpoint of the grades of prayer. You can find additional content on Patreon and on my Instagram.

_______

Mary is the mother of sorrows.

She knows what it's like to feel hopeless, vengeful, angry, sad, desperate, and overall ... dark. However, when she held her dead son in her arms, she made a promise to protect all of her earthly children from the beyond.

Our Lady of Sorrows is the incarnation of Mary that exorcists use when fighting the demonic. She can be used to bind those out to get you, protect you from evil - but also soften your heart to ensure you can greet others with kindness and authenticity.

This episode covers working alongside Our Lady of Sorrows for protection, for binding, for softening the heart of others - and for general devotion.

I hope you enjoy.

Bl. Anne Catherine Emmerich is a mystic, seer, stigmatists and perhaps one of the most influential figures when it comes to Marian visions.

Her visions were largely used for Mel Gibson's The Passion of the Christ, and a lot of scenes from her visions are repeated often in art, homilies and general legends of Our Lady, Christ and the saints.

01 Jul 2022Deliver Us From Evil: Deliverance Prayers 01:08:27

Begone Satan! This episode covers deliverance prayers, and also a story on how I personally used them to deliver malicious entities from two individuals and a home.

Deliverance prayers are deeply rooted in historic Catholicism, but yet, have ultimately been buried.

You may be surprised that there are traditional prayers for reversing, binding, consecrating and perimeter protecting.

These prayers are very important to my personal spiritual practice and I hope you find solace in them, too.

03 May 2023The Gentle Mirror of the Soul with St. Catherine of Siena 00:39:34

When we think of the phrase “Who Am I?” we often think of eastern mysticism, and yet, the concept of the true self is deeply rooted in Christianity and Christian mysticism.
This is widely seen in St. Catherine of. Siena’s writings. In this episode, we’ll explore her concept of the Gentle Mirror of the Soul. Which is using God’s love to burn away the false self, to give light to the image of God in which we were made.

19 Nov 2022The Holy Eucharist 00:28:28

The Holy Eucharist is the key to understanding a lot of Catholic mysticism, however, I find a lot of the true essence is left out when explaining it. Especially it’s Jewish roots.

This episode dives into how the Eucharist is the new passover ritual, the new bread from heaven and the new ritualistic sacrifice.

A large portion of this podcast was sourced from Brant Pitre’s Jesus and the Jewish Roots of the Eucharist which covers these topics in much more detail and I highly recommend it!

19 Mar 2025Troubling Trends of Catholic Influencers: Have We Lost the Plot?00:13:55

Over the last few years I have noticed an extreme drop in discussing the internal life, only to be replaced on external fads, masquerading as spirituality. We must be better as Catholic influencers, and return to discussions on prayer, sanctity and the well-being of our soul. 13 Apr 2022Pray With Me: The Seven Sorrows Chaplet 00:37:25

This Holy Week I am foregoing a formal episode - and instead - I am sharing a "pray-along" of the chaplet to Our Lady of Sorrows.

The Seven Sorrows Chaplet is a powerful tool for devotion, meditation and connecting with the energy of Mary.

It is very simple. You pray an our father, and then seven Hail Marys while meditating on the following sorrows:

  • The Prophecy of Simeon
  • The Flight into Egypt
  • Losing the Child Jesus in the Temple
  • Seeing Jesus on the Road to Calvary
  • Jesus Dying on the Cross
  • Holding the Dead Body of Jesus
  • The Closing of the Tomb

I would love if you joined me in prayer.

06 Apr 2022St. Joan of Arc: Saint or Witch? 00:43:36

St. Joan of Arc was persecuted because she saw gender, God, magic and spirituality in a different way.

Her rebellion, mixed with her supernatural court of angels and saints, alongside her skills on the battlefield made Joan a threat to monarchy of England and of the Catholic Church.

Her magical abilities for prophecy, healing and miracle working makes Joan a beloved Saint by the magic community, as well as spiritual community who also see their spiritual lives was a bit rebellious and different.

In this episode we cover Joan of Arc’s story, her connection with the supernatural as well as how she is worked with in folk magic and catholicism.

15 Apr 2022The Harrowing of Hell (Bonus!)00:16:18

Humans were never meant to die - but rather - to live forever in God's garden. Unfortunately, the slanderer deceived humankind into inhabiting the realm of death, and we were cursed with mortality. The death of Christ was not atonement for humans being dirty sinners of an angry God - no - Christ died... to go to hell and defeat Satan.

That way, God now reigns over the underworld, and can return all souls back unto his source.

In this quick bonus episode, we briefly talk about Christ going to hell, what it meant, and why it's important.

Don't worry! We will be talking much more about hell, death, demons, Satan and sheol in this podcast!

Enjoy,

W.

27 Jul 2024St. Titus Brandsma: The Mystic in the Concentration Camp00:53:17

St. Titus Brandsma was a Carmelite priest, a mystic, and also a martyr. He was killed in a concentration camp due to protecting Catholic newspapers from Nazi propaganda and anti-semitism.

11 Feb 2025The Grandpa with the Stigmata: The Curious Case of Irving Houle00:50:12

I've covered numerous stigmatists in my few years hosting this podcast: St. Francis, Padre Pio, Gemma Galgani... however, none are as unique as the Stigmata of Irving Houle.

Irving was a grandfather and former plant manager out of Michigan. A totally normal guy, until ... he received the wounds of Christ in the stigmata.

Unlike other stigmatists, Irving was called to a healing ministry, which may have cemented his future canonization.

28 Oct 2021St. Benedict of Nursia - The Patron of Exorcists 00:54:39

______

Get behind me, Satan! Do you need help banishing a hex or curse put on you? Or maybe you want to protect yourself or home from spiritual attack? Benedict might just be your guy! St. Benedict is the patron saint of exorcists and is commonly called to dispel dark energy. His mystical amulet can be found on the altars of witches, folk magic practitioners and traditional Catholics.

We open up this podcast with a story from the life of Benedict, then we discuss how he is petitioned in folk magic, saint magic, and my own personal experiences working with him.

28 May 2024The Mystical Love of God with St. Bernard of Clairvaux00:28:19

14 May 2024The Stigmatists: St. Gemma Galgani, Victim Soul for Christ00:34:49

St. Gemma Galgani is a newer saint, both in history and to me personally. Though, she's easily becoming one of my favorite stigmatists and potentially mystics overall.

Join me as we discuss this great saint, her stigmata and her battles with the devil.

08 Jun 2022Go to Hell: A Deconstruction Episode00:38:05

Hell is one of the most weaponized aspects of mainstream Christianity.

However, the concept of an eternal torment is no where to be found in scripture, and even “hell” itself has been a tragic mistranslation. A mistranslation takes away the nuance of what could occur once we die.

In this episode, we discuss what early Christians believed about the afterlife, the concept of salvation, and how many early church fathers, and even modern theologians, believed in a universal reconciliation, not a fiery permanent torture.

The conversation also reframes the theory of Christ's death and even sin as a spiritual blockage - not a cosmic naughty or nice list.

14 Dec 2022The Spiritual Canticle of St. John of the Cross00:48:35

St. John of the Cross is the premiere mystical saint in Catholicism. While we be doing a deep dive on all things mystical in the coming months - I wanted to record this episode on my favorite St. John work as a tribute to his feast day today (12/14).

In this episode we unpack his poem the Spiritual Canticle, while also discussing mysticism, and methodology.

12 Oct 2022St. Anthony of the Desert, Victor of Demons00:46:49

St. Anthony of the Desert is one of the most interesting saints of all. He is what is known as a "desert father" - and his legend largely involves his time spent meditating on God, as well as his courageous battles against the demonic. His stories have inspired some of the most famous artists of all time, such as Michelangelo and Dali, as well as inspired those who also may want to move into the desert to pray - or those battling demons of their own.

This saint is personally interesting to me, as he's a saint that often hated being asked for things while alive - and in some cultures, he is also seen as a saint to not mess with as a spirit either, but when he does come through for you, he comes through in a very powerful way.

This episode begins with my take on a famous story of St. Anthony, and ends discussing his lore, legend and more.

13 Jan 2023Reflections: The Communion of Saints00:19:35

After a year of podcasting on Catholic saints, and the spiritual system surrounding them - here are a few key things that have strongly stayed with me. Here I explore the concept of spiritual systems, and how the saints and other Catholic rituals offer a complete system not only for our temporal lives, but our spiritual lives, too.

I also look into ritual, the avoidance of superstition, and the true role the saints play in our lives.

27 Oct 2022The Lord's Line Q&A: Spooky Edition01:29:52

In this episode we pick apart how we can incorporate Teresa's mysticism into our own lives.

16 Mar 2022St. Dismas00:37:27

What an underrated Saint! Dismas has everything - a mysterious backstory, a personal revelation with Christ, and also a folk background that includes potions that can protect homes from break-ins.

St. Dismas is often called The Good Thief, he was the man that was crucified next to Christ, and due to his compassion, was invited personally by Jesus into the kingdom.

Dismas is an incredibly powerful Saint ally and intercessor - he can be invoked for protection against theft and crimes, he is also a patron Saint when you feel you are in a hopeless position. However, he is also incredibly symbolic - Jesus invited him into Kingdom due to his compassion and heart, not due to subscribing to a dogma or even being the perfect person. He reconciled his past, and he can also assist us in reconciling with others, and especially reconciling with our own selves.

27 Jan 2023Mystical Testimony + The Eyes of God00:34:43

Following this episode, I will soon be off on a brief hiatus to write my series on the mystics. Thus, I felt it was time to open up about my own experiences with the divine.

This isn't to set myself apart, as I am a broken human like us all - but to showcase my philosophy, of how spirituality should start from the heart, and be an exercise of love, rather than an exercise of logic.

In this reflection, I discuss real experiences I've had in prayer that have shaped my view on God, that has allowed me to go beyond logic, beyond the human, and rest in the mystery.

I hope you enjoy me opening up in this episode, and I am very excited to revamp the podcast with our upcoming season on the mystics.

Thank you for all your support.

11 Dec 2021A Powerful Guadalupe Devotional.00:17:58

In honor of Her feast day, I want to share a way to incorporate rosary magic and meditation into a beautiful and powerful devotional to Our Lady of Guadalupe.

This meditation centers around a simple but intense repetition of her famous line: Am I not here? I who am your mother? This is combined with rosary work that allows you to enter Her space and lay your problems at Her feet.

Thank you for praying with me.

22 Jun 2022The Demonic Then & Now01:21:53

If Satan was a title, how did it evolve into a singular entity today? Similarly, how else did our ideas on the demonic evolve? Moreover, how does the demonic affect us today?

We also jump into the formal Rite of Exorcism of the Catholic Church, as well as how the demonic is believed to manifest today.

04 Dec 2024Advent with the Mystics: St. Bernard of Clairvaux00:21:30

21 Dec 2022The Christ Child: A Favorite Devotion of the Saints 00:32:10

Hundreds, if not thousands, of saints have had a devotion to the Christ Child, but today - it seems silly, rather than important.

However, I'd argue this devotion is perfect for those struggling with spiritual or religious trauma. It's also a great topic that uncovers so many areas of cultural Catholicism.

We discuss the Infant of Prague, as well as numerous other well-known Infant Jesus devotions. We also discuss it's mystical components and how it can be applied to your spirituality.

01 Aug 2022Pray With Me: The Latin Rosary00:16:48

I will be sharing prayers the next few weeks as I focus on writing and producing new saint episodes.

Many of you have requested a pray-along of the rosary in latin. My latin is by no means perfect, but I do find a certain power and sweetness to latin prayers. I also find the latin Ave Marie has a sing-song rhythm to it that makes it flow off the tongue more smoothly than the english Hail Mary.

This unique concept allows us to see all of creation and all of nature with new eyes.

There is both the historical Nicholas, who was a beloved bishop that gave secret gifts to those in need. There is also the cultural Nicholas who drives a sleigh full of toys alongside the demon Krampus. Lastly, there's the Nicholas that some say could really be a Pagan god in disguise.

I hope you enjoy the final part in our series on holiday saints and magic!

15 Jun 2022Demonic Origins 00:55:48
Demons are always a fascinating topic for many spiritualists - traditional and esoteric alike. While demons are integral to the story of both Old and New Testaments, they seem to be separated from most modern Christian thought processes - aside from a few radical traditional extremist perspectives. This is the first a series on the demonic. This first episode will cover biblical demons - how they fell, misconceptions on Satan, demons, angels and how the early Church saw the demonic. Subsequent episodes will cover how this early demonology evolved, as well as traditional and folk methods on demonic protection. Show notes and bonus content can be found on the Patreon here!

10 Nov 2021St. Peter the Apostle: The Crossing and Uncrossing Saint 00:42:48

______

Today's episode has everything: Curses, Hexes, Talking Dogs, Ravenous Crowds, Murder, The Crossroads, Blood Petitions + More!

St. Peter is a powerful saint ally who is said to have the keys not only to heaven, but also the keys to unlock any of the chains that bind you - and also the keys to lock up those who cross you.

Our episode begins with a story of St. Peter going to confront the evil sorcerer Simon, and then we jump into the many ways we can work with St. Peter all stemming from various folk magic perspectives.

Ghosts are integral to Catholic spirituality, however, we rarely emphasize it. Though, turning to things like the theology of Thomas Aquinas, but even more powerfully also communion of saints and spiritual warfare and the holy mass, we see the power and necessity of spirits in our faith.

Join me as we discuss how saints from heaven, hell and purgatory can visit the faithful, intertwined with stories detailing ghosts in Catholic spirituality.

______

We are kicking off our series on winter and Christmas time saints with St. Lucy. While she is a beloved saint year-round, she has a special place during the winter months as her feast day is closely affiliated with the winter solstice.

Lucy is a great companion for protection, divination, and more. Her spirit has become so renowned that she is sometimes called Lucy the Strange Being.

We begin today's episode with the story of her escaping a jilted lover, her transition from Lucy to Lucy the Light-Bearer, and finally - we get into some common ways you can incorporate Lucy into your practice.
