We're diving into the history of where "love" comes from in scoring, and trying to determine once and for all where this wacky scoring system came from. We've never done so much research for an episode, so enjoy our hard work!

It’s Joey’s birthday celebration, and he’s already been distressed by a cake promotion at his local grocery store, but we’re powering through! Unfortunately, today’s topic is also powering through sports, and that’s real dumb.

We’re seeing just about every player doing the “too small” taunt to opponents. And people are referring to everyone as “him,” or, even worse, saying, “I’m him” after making a play. A person in Joey’s rec league did this. As Sean notes, if you are paying to play in a league, you are, in fact, not him.

Plus, Joey sent a sternly worded email that actually got a result! And tell us this Relient K song isn’t a banger from an album with a beautiful punny title.

Reggie Bush won the Heisman Trophy in 2005, but then it was taken away in 2010 because of some minor infractions, especially considering the NIL deals out there today. Well, it took 14 years, but Bush's Heisman Trophy was finally reinstated. Better to fix a dumb thing late than never. Now, maybe we can move on to rectifying some of these vacated seasons.

Plus, an NHL rule that should be applied to other sports, road fans overpowering home fans with cheers, and Sean is displeased with the effort of the Dallas Mavericks.

Thanksgiving is full of fun traditions. Eating copious amounts of [insert your favorite side dish], spending time with family and friends, and tossing the old pigskin around.

Sean enjoys watching the Dallas Cowboys during Thanksgiving, but you know what he does not want to watch? The Detroit Lions playing football. Yet they kick off each and every Thanksgiving with a home game.

The NBA Draft is this week! It’s always been one night for both rounds, but this year, the league is mixing it up with TWO days of the draft. The second day starts at 4 pm ET, which is very early.

Plus, our favorite draft cliches and how silly it is that players have to wear the hat of the team that drafted them, even if they’ve already been traded. Oh, and how about Monty Williams making $78 million to win 14 games and then being fired after one season? Brilliant move, truly. But not as brilliant as this Joe Dumars pass or this Javale McGee blooper.

At one point in the history of baseball, a lot of people were using steroids. But Hall of Fame voters think some of those players shouldn't be enshrined in Cooperstown. Like Barry Bonds (who hit lots of home runs) or Pete Rose (who bet on his own team). And that rankles Sean's feathers.

Joey and Sean also discuss the Louisville Slugger Museum and away messages from the days of AOL Instant Messenger (which we lovingly called AIM, duh).

Sean doesn't know if hell is high, but today's topic pisses him off to high hell. When a team wants to build a new ballpark (and it's often a want, not a need), it turns to its city to help pay for it. The billionaire owners don't pay for it, the hardworking citizens do. That's quite dumb.

Joey has attended MANY baseball games in person over the past month or so. He's noticed a trend at some of these stadiums: People standing in the way, completely unaware of other fans around them. World Series champion Sean is still beaming from the Texas Rangers’ championship, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t have gripes. In fact, this whole episode is critical of certain types of complaints.

These accounts are often very obvious, and yet, many fans still fall for them. And then they rage about these fake stories, which is absurd. 

Plus, what Sean would taste like if he were a cocktail, which NFL matchup is a President’s favorite, and what a spectacular rant about James Harden by Dallas Mavericks announcer Brian Dameris. 

NFL fans and Swifties have been crossing paths lately, with Taylor Swift watching Travis Kelce and the Kansas City Chiefs. And now everyone is talking about it. Are they just friends? Are they secretly dating? Did she merely want a ticket in a press box?

Kelce jersey sales have gone up by 400%, and girlfriends are trolling their boyfriends by saying Swift put Kelce on the map. Surely, we can just let these two live their lives, right?

Plus, a story about Joey witnessing stand-up comedy at the Swiss national circus. And Usher's gotta be pretty disappointed that his Super Bowl performance announcement is overshadowed by a potential non-relationship. Joey and Sean also give updates on their rec league games, specifically the light trash-talking elements.

For about 15 years, Joey played fantasy football. He, fortunately, escaped the rubble a few years back, but Sean is still in the endless cycle of torture. Drafting players is fun. Managing those players throughout the season is HIGHLY frustrating. But boy, it's fun to hear Sean get riled up about it.

On the plus side, the rise of fantasy football did give us the excellent Fantasy Files commercials. Here are some of the highlights.

Joey has 10 players on his rec league team, but only four showed up for his most recent game. Where was everyone else? Why do so many people feel okay saying they'll do something—like participate in a league, accompany you to a game, or join a watch party—and then back out with no warning or heads up? These people are missing a common courtesy that should be ingrained in all of us.

The Cowboys have had a ton of silly things happen to them over the past couple of weeks. Then, they went out and won perhaps the dumbest game ever. Amazing.

We're also sharing a Mike Leach quote that might set the record for number of times using the word "dumb," and we get way too into the intricacies of tuning a guitar. Plus, it's Thanksgiving week, so we're sharing unusual things we're thankful for.

We've got plenty of dumbness in this episode! Joey has a tumultuous experience trying to attend a baseball game in Phoenix. Sean has a $40 margarita at a comedy show. And perhaps most distressingly, people still care far too much about what pro athletes are making. Say it with us: It's not our money. We don't need to worry about it.

We're back in business — and what a bonus, the Texas Rangers are having a surprising renaissance this season! But Sean's fandom isn't nearly what it used to be. This is a very "waxing poetic" episode with a lot of random names from the 90s and 00s, and why meeting your heroes and learning about them off the field can sometimes be a terrible idea.

As it turns out, punching a dude in the face is not the best highlight to latch onto for a sports franchise. Here's that Rougned Odor on Jose Bautista punch Sean was talking about. He's right, it is a great photo. And here's Elvis Andrus touching the top of Adrian Beltre's head, among other things.

Losing a part of your childhood is definitely sad. But hey, maybe this is a chance to try something new! And that's never a bad thing.

It's getting chilly outside, which means it's the perfect time for smash mouth football!

But no no — as Sean notes, Smash Mouth is a band, and football is a ball. And never shall the two meet. Bad weather football is silly and often not a reflection of a team's talent level. So why are we using it to decide super important outdoor sporting events?

During this NFL postseason, the Kansas City Chiefs and Buffalo Bills played in one of the most entertaining football games we've ever witnessed. Yet the Bills never got a chance to play on offense in overtime, so Josh Allen and co. had to sit on the sidelines as they watched their season end.

Enough people complained about this rule that the NFL changed it, but only in certain circumstances. Sean thinks this is an extra dumb rule.

The NBA is back! It officially tips off tonight with the Los Angeles Lakers playing the world-champion Denver Nuggets, while the Phoenix Suns and Golden State Warriors welcome new players onto their already pretty good rosters.

But we don't really care about those games in particular. Instead, we're looking at the season as a whole as we make dumb predictions. Could two players both get ejected in the same game for kicking someone in the crotch? What kind of prop will Patrick Beverley use this year to try and sway an official's call? Which player will lead the league in scoring?

We're figuring it all out, and we're doing it in beautifully dumb style. Happy NBA, y'all.

Rather than celebrating these impressive achievements, many fans are waxing poetic about the good ol' days, back when defense MEANT something, you know? And that's pretty dumb. Luka Doncic became the first player in NBA history to record a triple-double with at least 60 points, 20 rebounds, and 10 assists. But ESPN pundits were talking about whether New England Patriots quarterback Mac Jones is a guy the team can rely on.

It makes Sean so mad, he's physically sweating!

Joey's favorite time of year is March Madness. The NCAA Tournament, baby! He loves filling out brackets and following along with all of the thrilling chaos. Who will be this year's Cinderella? Can he correctly predict the champion? Will he defeat his smug coworker by selecting the proper 11/6 upset?

Meanwhile, Sean HATES the idea of filling out brackets. He hasn't done it for nearly a decade. And he believes people who do it are way too overconfident in their ability, even though they have virtually zero chance of completing a perfect bracket.

Regardless of your feelings on brackets, the games themselves are delightful. Sean and I even attended some in-person last year — and Sean saw his uncle being interviewed by a local news team! Wild. As Gus Johnson would say, "This is March Madness!"

Here are every school's team sheets from last year. They're certainly confusing, but they're kinda fun to look at!

Another NBA All-Star Weekend has come and gone, and once again, there was plenty of dumb mixed in with the good.

We're diving into some of the worst moments, from Micah Parsons caring way too much about the Celebrity Game to Kenny Smith quickly sapping the joy out of a historic three-point contest between Sabrina Ionescu and Stephen Curry.

Zion Williamson and Ja Morant were the top two picks in the 2019 NBA Draft. Huge moments in a player's career. Their 2023s, however, have been less pristine.

Ja Morant has had numerous moments with violence and/or guns. Zion Williamson posted a gender reveal party with a woman, and another woman he's involved with has not stopped going off about it.

Social media, of course, is having a field day. But we're all focusing on the wrong things. Are these dudes actually okay, or do they need help? And can you imagine what social media would be like with the cocaine-fueled craziness of the 1970s?

Plus, abstinent NBA players, cakes shaped like babies, and a sports cliche whose bark is worse than its bite. Also, why are people throwing phones at musicians? Let's be better.

It's that time of year to be making holiday lists, and we've got TWO great lists for you.

Have you ever thought there should be more goals in soccer? Soccer officials sure don't — and they'll call offsides penalties whenever they have a chance, often eliminating a score in the process. Video Assistant Referees (VAR) aren't helping the issue, either. Sean finds that pretty darn dumb. On the plus side, there are no commercial breaks aside from halftime and that is awesome.

We also dive back into sports fandom, which we've covered in previous episodes. But there's more sadness to be had. And the Slime Monster is back!

There's no better job in the world than being a fired college football coach. Do an average or even a poor job and earn millions of dollars to go away. Meanwhile, let's keep talking about how we can't pay the players on the field.

We're talking about some of the more exorbitant examples of coaches who have been fired this season. In a couple of cases, the school administration doing the firing could have saved money simply by waiting a few weeks. Money is wild, y'all.

Plus, Sean gets a boost in his karaoke confidence and has wild experiences while bowling for the first time in years and shuffleboarding for the first time in forever. And our sports cliche is quite the brain teaser. What a terrific time!

In baseball, you have pitchers and non-pitchers. Yet in blowout games, we're often seeing those non-pitchers take the mound. What gives? Well, teams are trying to rest their pitching staff, but the results of, say, an outfielder pitching are...typically not great. 

We're also briefly touching on the 2017 film Going in Style and the chaos of trying to pitch in little league.

Plus, a hysterically observant tweet by Jason Concepcion and a silly sports cliche about the amount of time we need to do good work.

Alexander Ovechkin just broke Wayne Gretzky's record for the most goals scored in an NHL career. It's an impressive achievement of both talent and longevity. Yet when you try to give Ovechkin kudos, there's always at least one person who says something like, "Yeah, but...he's still not Gretzky." Why do we need to put someone down? Why can't we just celebrate both players? And here's the Calvin and Hobbes comic strip we reference. What a gem!

The men's and women's NCAA basketball tournaments are in the books! Congratulations to the Florida Gators and UConn Huskies for their respective victories. We're looking back at the championship games, lamenting a few heartbreaks, and sharing our individual one shining moments from March Madness.

There's a really odd rule in college basketball that you might not even know about. It involves the jerseys that players wear, and while said rule kind of makes sense, it's still quite silly.

Because Joey was the one that first learned about this rule, Sean lets him have the floor to rant. But don't worry, because Sean releases plenty of unhinged frustration during this episode, too. 

We're also covering some of the classic meals we'd eat after school — Joey's afternoon routine of a bagel with cream cheese and peanut butter was somehow the healthier of the two.

Hope springs eternal, but as sports fans know, it typically lets you down. And Sean's Dallas Cowboys let him down in a BIG way. How silly that we fall for this trick every single season when only one team can end as the champion.

Do you have a name that people regularly mispronounce or mishear? Somehow, Sean does, despite the very easy spelling of his name. This regularly happens with NFL broadcasters and analysts, who will routinely mispronounce and sometimes even add or eliminate syllables to names.

If you've been keeping an eye on the NBA playoffs, you might have noticed an alarming trend: an increase in flopping. Nobody wants to watch a game with people falling down like dominoes, led by future Hall of Famer Chris Paul.

Sean's Dallas Cowboys didn't make it past the divisional round during this year's NFL playoffs, but they still had a pretty darn good season. Yet listening to fans and analysts alike, you'd think it was the worst year ever. Sean thinks that's a rash, and thus dumb, reaction. And he doesn't want to hear it about it anymore.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers finished with a SUPER impressive 8-9 record. The Dallas Cowboys were four games ahead of them, ending the season at 12-5. So why in the world does Tampa Bay get to host a playoff game? Simple, because division winners get an automatic home game, regardless of their record. And that's pretty dumb, don't you think?

We saw the same thing happen with the MLB playoffs in 2022. What makes this even more baffling is that (some) other leagues have corrected this. We cover an occasion in the NBA where something similar happened. And wouldn't you know it, the league fixed the issue!

In sports like basketball and football, the annual All-Star Game and Pro Bowl, respectively, are filled with low-effort attempts at defense, with flashiness the main item on the agenda. In the Major Leagues, there's TOO much effort, which makes the All-Star Game feel a bit like every other contest of the 162-game season.

Ancillary events can be pretty dumb, too. Julio Rodriguez hit 41 home runs in the first round and didn't end up winning because he hit too many home runs in the first round. Aaron Gordon was a phenomenal dunker in the 2016 Slam Dunk Contest and in subsequent years and still has not won a Dunk Contest.

Plus, it's about time for Sean's fantasy football league to start up again. Has he thought enough about his keepers for the upcoming season? A YouTuber named Jesser probably cannot dunk a basketball on a regulation rim, and he was one of the judges of the Slam Dunk Contest! And oh so many commercials and stoppages in play.

Most sports have salary caps. Though they're designed as a way to "increase parity" across sports, these salary caps really just limit what a player can earn. Sean thinks we should rally together as fans to boycott sports until they get rid of salary caps. This will not happen but it's an admirable thought.

Plus, have you ever played the lottery? Wouldn't it have been nice to win a jackpot of $1.34 billion (which turned into $433.7 million after taxes on the lump sum)? Or maybe you'd rather prefer a nice fancy bidet, instead.

Why is it that an intentional foul at any other point of the game penalizes the team that commits the foul, but duringthe end of the game, it's the team being fouled that is at a disadvantage (especially because college teams struggle to shoot free throws)? Sean will break this all down in a way that only he can.

Sean's been trying to better himself by going to the gym early in the morning. But that means he sees a lot of silly sports conversations, including endless speculation over whether star players will retire at the end of the year. This was happening even with several games left in the season. And so many of them rhyme!

This kind of speculation should probably simmer down. Sean also isn't a fan of wondering who will win next year like one week after this year's champion celebrates a title. It's enough to make anyone want to rip their headphones off and throw 'em through a window.

Plus, radio analysts thinking they're smarter than professional coaches and a silly sports cliche about how difficult things are.

Sports shows need to fill a lot of airtime, and one great way to do that? With some lists, of course! And Sean thinks it's spectacularly dumb, especially when a top 5 list ends up having a tie and we get six players on it. Then the fans get SO MAD about it. This is just one person's dumb opinion! They're not saying a player is bad because they're not on a list.

Are you feeling FINE today? If so, you just might owe tens of thousands of dollars for doing something in a sporting event. In many cases, the fine is for an extremely niche reason, like kicking or dropping a ball or dancing after a touchdown. Meanwhile, serious things that sometimes are literal criminal activity have a similar fine or no punishment at all.

Sean and Joey are dressed in Christmas colors, even though it's early August. But lamenting about how college football is destroying conferences is fashionable any time of year!

The Big Ten has 18 teams in it. The Big 12 has 14 teams. The Atlantic Coast Conference is considering adding schools from the Dallas and San Francisco metro areas. It makes no sense geographically, but it does add sweet sweet dollars to the pockets of conference executives. Unfortunately, it hurts athletes from just about every other sport.

Plus, Sean recovers from a bout with Covid (don't worry, he's all good now), we have stylish branded checkbooks, and baseball games are so speedy nowadays, aren't they?

With the baseball playoffs nearly upon us, we've got a special guest on this episode — Haleigh from the OG Parks n Wrecked crew! This past week, Tua Tagovaiola suffered a pretty severe head and neck injury (you know, like a concussion). This was five days after he maybe had a concussion in another game. And Twitter had a FIELD day. Sean thinks these types of non-doctors dropping medical insights are wildly out of control. Many people also look at their fantasy teams first, which is dumb. 

Meanwhile, Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel ensured us Tagovaiola is fine because he watched MacGruber on the plane and laughed throughout. We also discuss whether farting on a football field is a common occurrence and the joy of Halloween decorations. 

Plus, Sean was a key component to his team's hockey league championship! And a silly sports cliche about the way teams play.

Sean is thrilled because his Texas Longhorns are in the College Football Playoff. Florida State fans are less than thrilled after their team finished an undefeated season and won't be included in the festivities.

Basic math suggests picking from five power conferences to select four teams to represent the nation's best will lead to controversy. Good thing next year will have more teams in the playoff, and surely there won't be any arguments in 2024, right?

In any other sport, if you have the ball in your hand when a clock strikes zero, there's some kind of penalty. In football, the play clock often hits zero but the officials make no call because they are busy looking at the ball, then up at the clock, then back to the player snapping the ball.

Luckily, Sean and I have come up with some clever ways to solve this issue that only involves a minor mutiny or amount of electroshock. And you're going to learn a LOT about how the NFL uses RFID technology, and that's a pretty cool thing (all in less than 15 minutes, to boot!).

This episode really takes a turn though when Sean talks about a video game that simulated being in an electric chair. Joey has never heard of such a machine, but apparently it's featured in multiple arcades throughout the country. Did you ever play this game?

Sean has been playing LA Noire, a game that came out nearly 14 years ago but is new to him. He's tussling between believing suspects or accusing them of lies, and it's chaotic all around. But maybe it'll help him forget about how Texas played in the College Football Playoff semifinal.

Speaking of chaos, the college football transfer portal is so silly. Players can leave before their bowl games, meaning the teams on the field might not be the actual players who were competing during the year. What kind of sense does that make?
