01 Jan 2020Year End Review [pt 2] with download00:31:33

Are you ready for some real momentum in your life? Start with a Year-End Review that will uncover pivotal insight into who you are, and how you work, without beating yourself up.

If you haven't done so already, be sure to tune into Part 1 in episode 49 then join us back here for part 2.

I love this quote from Bill Gates, “Most people overestimate what they can do in one year and underestimate what they can do in ten years.” but I think it goes way deeper than that.

With increased consumption of social media, surrounded by "influencers," and living in a world of comparing our lives to one another, staying in your lane is hard to do - even with the best intentions.

Let's begin the 2019 reflection and talk about some things that will help you move the needle in the new year:

What did you accomplish this year, and what served as a learning tool?

How to not tie the “didn’t happen” goals into a failure category.

Tips to overcoming the New Years' resolution mindset and working on growth instead of superficial benchmarks.

It's time to dive in, dig deep, and learn how you can use what you've done and where you've been to up your odds and cultivate success.

22 Apr 2024Through The Lens of Photographer Shanelle Riley: Capturing Wildlife’s Wonders and Reflections on Self Growth00:31:18

In this episode of the Soul Summit podcast, host Courtney Prete joins Shanelle Riley, a dynamic wildlife photographer based in Montana. Shanelle's journey begins with stories of her humble beginnings, capturing the essence of Courtney's archery camps and embarking on solo adventures. These experiences ignited the flame of her passion for photography.

Throughout the episode, a central theme of their conversation revolves around Shanelle's mantra: "Embrace Discomfort for Growth." She vividly describes moments of uncertainty and discomfort during her solo expeditions, moments that ultimately became pivotal for her personal and professional development. Shanelle eloquently explains how stepping outside of one's comfort zone is not just a challenge but an essential catalyst for growth, both as an artist and as an individual.

Shanelle shines a light on the profound impact of mentorship in her journey. She speaks fondly of her own mentors, individuals whose guidance and wisdom helped navigate the complexities of wildlife photography. These mentors not only provided technical knowledge but also imparted invaluable lessons on patience, observation, and the art of storytelling through imagery.

As the conversation deepens, Shanelle dives into the technical aspects of photography, emphasizing the importance of understanding camera settings and the nuances of natural light. Her passion for the craft is palpable as she shares tips and tricks, encouraging listeners to embark on their own photographic adventures with newfound confidence.

One of the highlights of the episode is Shanelle's discussion of her photography retreats. These immersive experiences, set against the breathtaking backdrop of Montana's wilderness, are designed to not only teach photography skills but also to foster a deeper connection with nature. Shanelle's retreats are more than just workshops; they are transformative experiences where participants are encouraged to explore their creativity, overcome challenges, and forge lasting friendships.

As the episode comes to an end, Shanelle leaves us with a powerful message: 'Every moment is an opportunity to capture the essence of life.' Her words encourage us to embrace discomfort, seek mentorship, and embark on our creative journeys with passion and purpose. But Shanelle goes beyond inspiration; she offers practical tools for photographers, sharing her '5 Key Elements To Composition' and a 'Photography Cheat Sheet.'

31 Mar 2021It's Not Nothing01:10:37

Let me forewarn you, this episode is an emotional one. I was lucky enough to cross paths with Lora Young, a hunter, hiker, adventurer, and total badass, a couple of years ago at the Hunt Expo in SLC. Through the process of getting to know Lora, we chatted a lot about hunting stories, our shared passions, and the mountains of New Zealand, a bucket list hunt for me!

Last summer, Lora found herself circling through a new routine stateside after the dreaded COVID hit and closed down many of our international borders and forcing her to head back home to North Carolina.

Lora shifted and decided to head out to complete some more sections of the Appalachian Trail near her home. Along the way, Lora soaked up the trail, hiked for weeks, did some soul searching, and found something that would change her life forever.

What was meant to be a summer of exploration in the great outdoors turned to a cancer diagnosis, chemo, surgery, and life-altering moments that came when she least suspected it.

Listen in as Lora and I talk about the moments she was diagnosed with breast cancer, how she deals with the process, mentally and physically, and what’s next for her.

You can also head over to our blog to see our exclusive interview with her and soak up more of her positive and faith-filled outlook.

Let me just say, the guest on today’s show is an gem! Sitting down to chat with Amy Hall was an absolute pleasure, and one of those conversations that leave you inspired and ready to take on anything!

Amy grew up in an outdoor, hunting family, but never took it upon herself to be the hunter until she met her husband. We talk about her evolution in learning to hunt, stepping out solo, and how hunting solo on private land is different than hunting on public land.

If you’re looking for tips on how to safely navigate your next solo adventure, or aren’t sure where to start, listen in to this tactical and practical advice.

You can also find her award-winning Wild Goose Wellington recipe and try it for yourself.

26 Nov 2021From Non-Hunter to Hunter Advocate with Cindy Stites00:56:08

In this episode of the Soul Summit Podcast, co-host Kelly Reynolds joins Laci Martoglio from Wyoming. Together, they dive into a profound exploration of breaking stereotypes and challenging the notion that women must set aside their passions after having children.

They explore how pursuing one's dreams sets a powerful example for children, instilling courage and ambition to chase their own aspirations. Engaging in the activities you love not only enriches your own life but also enables you to better invest in and positively impact the lives of others around you. Ultimately, the conversation seeks to challenge the misconception that parenthood necessitates bidding farewell to personal pursuits.

Emphasizing the significance of being present, they advocate for quality over quantity in time spent with loved ones. Laci expresses a sentiment of seizing life's opportunities, urging listeners to embrace their passions wholeheartedly.

The conversation shifts to social media's impact, emphasizing its role in connecting women in the outdoor community while cautioning against comparison. Laci shares personal anecdotes of forming meaningful friendships through social platforms and highlights its ability to be a useful tool.

Welcome back to another episode of the Soul Summit Podcast! Today, hosted by our co-host, Kelly Reynolds, we have the privilege of sharing the remarkable journey of 21-year-old Teagan, a born and raised Alaskan whose passion for the outdoors and unwavering determination have shaped her into an extraordinary individual.

Teagan's story begins in the heart of Alaska, where she spent her childhood surrounded by the breathtaking beauty of nature. Despite being born with a severe disability, Teagan's spirit was never dampened. From a young age, she embraced the Alaskan wilderness as her playground, honing her skills as an outdoorswoman.

Teagan is not just any hunter; she is an accomplished and fearless hunter of big game, including bears. Her love for hunting was fostered by her father, who saw her as his best hunting partner. Teagan's hunting expeditions are not just about the thrill of the chase; they are a testament to her determination and unwavering spirit. She has faced challenging hunts head-on, never letting anything hold her back.

Beyond the hunting grounds, Teagan is a force to be reckoned with on the ski slopes. She competes on the world platform, showcasing her incredible talent and drive. Skiing is not just a sport for Teagan; it's a passion that allows her to push her limits and defy expectations.

18 Nov 2022Using the Outdoors to Build Your Confidence00:56:02

I remember back when I would never hike, hunt, or camp solo. Now, I crave it! And you can too!

Getting out and exploring by yourself, especially as a female, can be intimidating!

Over the years I’ve talked to hundreds of women who would agree. In fact, one of the #1 things I hear is that ladies aren’t confident enough to hike, run, walk, camp, hunt, etc. by themselves!

To each of us, building confidence looks different, but here are a few tips that helped give me the boost I needed to do things solo.

Small - short or close to home adventures.

Plan - go when you have plenty of daylight, good weather, know your route. Especially important to know where you’re going if you will be in areas without service.

Prepare - take a pack with essentials, communication device, water, and sidearm (or some kind of pepper spray).

Awareness - pay attention to where you are, be present, and don’t let yourself get distracted. Also, limit using earbuds or headphones so that you can stay in tune with your surroundings.

Communicate - always let SOMEONE know where you are heading and when you’ll be back (and stick to that plan).

Trust - listen to your instincts and trust your gut without giving into fear.

Companion - take your favorite 4 legged friend or invite someone to come along. Maybe starting with a friend or two will be your gateway into more time outdoors!

06 Jul 2022Hunters Getting Deleted on Social Media with Jon Gabrio01:43:35

If you’re on social media or listen to other podcasts, you’ve probably heard there's a buzz around social media and hunters getting banned. In this episode, my friend Jon Gabrio and I talk about some significant shifts in the hunting industry regarding social media access and even possible discrimination across some of these platforms.

While social media isn’t for everyone, it is a must for some, especially when sharing your outdoor-based business, connecting with like-minded friends, and building community.

Jon and I have not only personally been canceled from SM platforms, but we’ve also seen a big decline in engagement and exposure for some of our friends and marketing clients.

Jon and I also unpack the hot topic, “Are there too many hunters out there?” and share more about his backstory in getting into hunting, why he and his wife just moved to Montana, and how you can step up your game as an elk hunter! (hint hint: there’s an online tool at your fingertips you can tap into and learn from the best of the best).

28 Jul 2022What’s New? Life, Business, Growth and Wellness with Dave Brinker01:14:25

Take a little goodness out of this episode in every category: health, life, business, relationships, growth, etc. I sit down to catch up with my friend, Dave Brinker, and we get candid about juggling all that is. Is it better to have fewer hobbies, or does it help you narrow down the focus and dig in if you stop wearing so many hats? Maybe? Maybe not? Check out what Dave has to say about dabbling in so many realms and how doing so plays into his “staying inspired” and crushing goals.

Dave and I also talk about what he’s learned in the last couple of months while interviewing some incredible guests on his new podcast, The Altitude Show.

As always, it’s great to catch up with Dave and hear what nuggets of wisdom come from the chapter of life he is currently in.

29 Jun 2022From Day Hikes to the Backcountry -What Pack is Right For You with Initial Ascent00:51:35

Hands down one of the most frequent questions I get asked is about finding the right hunting/ backpacking pack.

Questions like: How do I know what size bag is right for the adventures I have planned? How many cubic inches do I need for an 8-day backcountry trip? How should my pack fit? What size frame do I need? What is the best way to load my back to save my back?

All of the above questions are a great place to start and finding the right pack for you is vital in keeping you comfortable on and off of the trail.

Listen in as co-founder of Initial Ascent, Joe Elliston and I discuss all the ins and out’s of packs along with learning more about the origin of IA.

09 May 2023Go Beast Mode with Bakcou00:46:52

In the eight years I have been a part of the hunting and outdoor industry, I have seen a lot of companies launch, and a few have really stood out from the others.

To me a good company is one that at a foundational level, brings the best of the best in their field and, on a structural level, is operated by quality people.

Get to know Kate Newkirk and Bryan Child from Bakcous team. In this episode, we get to listen into the beginnings of Bakcou as a company, how Bryan went from 18 years as an MD to co-founder and owner of an outdoor company.

We also cover some Q&A and common misconceptions about ebikes, the breakdown of the three ebike classifications, maintenance tips, and more!

I have worked with this company for many years, and I can personally say, I’m honored to know them all!

Don’t forget, right now you can celebrate Mother’s Day with the Bakcou's Mother's Day Sale and get that special momma in your life the ultimate adventure package!
