24 Sep 2024Why We Need More Women Owned Businesses, with Katie Cope00:41:43

Season 2, Episode 16: Show Up and Be Heard

Today’s episode of the podcast is an interview with the fabulous Katie Cope, and we are talking all about why the world needs more women owned businesses.

Katie shares with us some fascinating facts about female founders, highlighting the positive contributions they make to both society and the world and giving us all a well needed reminder of just what a rockstar we are, for running a business!

We also chat about our views on the way that women are represented by the media and how we are trying to raise our children to create a more equal future.

BOSS THINGS YOU'LL LEARN IF YOU TUNE IN:

  1. Last year, just under 164,000 women started a business in the UK
  2. 63% of female founders perform better for venture capitalistic investment than our male counterparts
  3. If women were given equal opportunities, we could add £250 billion to the UK economy alone

In 2019 at 7 months pregnant Katie was made redundant from her full-time employment.

At that moment she had three options:

1) Crawl into bed, pull the covers over her head and wait for everything to "blow over".

2) Get another job (which, at the time, she was working in the events industry and felt that no one would hire someone who hadn't seen her feet for the last 3 months!)

3) Her wild card option: start a business.

Five years later Katie is the founder of Keppel Leopard Creative - a branding agency located in greater Manchester working exclusively with female founders.

She loves helping her clients take the millions of ideas they have for their business, and help them create a focused and engaging brand that increases their income and visibility.

She is parent level 2, pet owner 1.5 and recently diagnosed with ADHD.

Season 2, Episode 21: Show Up and Be Heard

I am so excited for you to listen to today's episode, where I am talking to the incredible Dominique van Werkhoven, all about embracing diversity, difference and uniqueness in business, and maintaining your own identity.

We discuss personal stories, the ripple effect of seemingly small actions, and the significance of intentionality in business.

Dominique also shares her experiences of running a business with her husband, the highs and lows, and the lessons she has learned along the way.

I am not just saying it when I say that I loved this conversation, it was honest, at times vulnerable, and really powerful.

Dominique is a London-born writer, speaker, and small business co-founder of The Werks. She is currently based in the Netherlands with her three sons and husband. As a lifetime hoarder of childrens’ books (for her own reading pleasure) she has recently launched herself as a childrens’ book author-illustrator. Plus she is an ICF ACC accredited business coach and author of triple award-winning Falling Off The Ladder.

When not a 40-year-old playing dress-up or grappling to work out the time difference with co-founder Sally in Australia, at Be The Future Helen’s focus is on developing educational and technological content for immersive and educational experiences about sustainability. Plus, she is also the chief of visual design and craftily magicking workshop props together armed with her trusty new sewing machine.
