We discuss the competition as a whole from the qualifying round, all the way through to the finals. There were laughs, there were tears, there were moose's d*cks, there were vote rigging Russian bots (allegedly), there was beef, but above all...there were dope bars a plenty.

If the above paragraph didn't make any sense to you, head over to our Instagram and check out the posts from the past couple of months before you peep this episode.

A big shoutout to all of the finalists: PJD, Bxrbarian, Pique Roscoe, Mick Swagger, C.o.N-Vers, Reign, Naninho, Bucks, Archetype, Moo, Relly, Jaydar, Jacob Fiya Flaim, Blurred Thirst, and Lomax.

Also shouts to all the MCs who participated in the competition, to Big O and g Man for providing the bangers, to Chester P, Verbz, and CLBRKS for helping us spread the word, and to everyone else tuning in. Until next time🎤🔥🍿

29 Apr 2021THE RETURN OF THE DRIFTER (with Harry Love) - SHOTGUN THE CLASSICS01:46:51

Welcome to our brand new section - "Shotgun The Classics" (we couldn't come up with anything more original) where we revisit and breakdown some of our favourite Hip Hop albums.

In this episode, we tackle the seminal UK Hip Hop classic "The Return Of The Drifter" by English rapper Jehst released in 2002 on Low Life Records.

After revisiting the album in a track by track breakdown, we were joined by UK veteran DJ and producer Harry Love who gave some insight on how the project came into existence, meeting Jehst for the first time and being blown away by his bars, legendary street cyphers with UK Hip Hop royalty, and of course his production on the classic tracks "Alcoholic Author" and "Staircase to Stage".

(Note: we were all scratching our heads (no pun intended) trying to figure out who performed the cuts for the record. Harry did in fact confirm after recording that this was in fact DJ Ideal)

24 Jun 2021OLD CHILDREN (KING KASHMERE, BOODA FRENCH, HPBLK)01:17:04

On this episode we catch up with Kashmere, Booda French and HPBLK aka Old Children and break down their incredibly dope new EP "Push Start".

Old Children is latest multi-headed beast alliance of hip-hop minds HPBLK (HYPERBOLIC), Booda French and King Kashmere who takes the helm handling the production duties of the project.

On Push Start; HPBLK and Booda trade bars carved from out of this world imagery, left field references and forward thinking quantum streams of thought over King Kashmeres hypnotic futuristic lo-tech cosmic slop. A slick 6 track affair (also featuring Ramson Badbonez and DJ Jazz-T) this short but sweet project is a glimpse of what the magical trio have to offer.

11 Aug 2021BLADE01:37:58

On our latest episode we catch up with UK Hip Hop legend Blade.

Hailing from Iran, Blade moved to New Cross, London at the tender age of 7. During his formative years in the capital he would discover Hip Hop and become one with the definition of the word hustler. Boasting the innate hypothetical ability to hustle from one end of one high road to the other while simultaneously ignoring back to back naked females...until all wax was shifted.

Blade has been prolific since his first release in 1988. A year later he dropped his standout banger "Lyrical Maniac". Which fused together timeless raw lyricism and dope production becoming a benchmark of UK Hip Hop at that time. After setting the bar, Blade would go on to drop singles in the early 90s like “Mind of an Ordinary Citizen” and “Rough it Up”. Along with three LPs, the most notably “The Lion Goes from Strength to Strength”.

Then came “The Unknown” with the late great Mark B. The album is an absolute classic marrying old school and new succinctly into one body of work while Blade tirelessly fights the music industry in order to come out on top. Utilising such legends as Rodney P, Skinnyman and Chester P to pepper Mark Bs production with the flavour of what was to come in UK Hip Hop.

Nowadays, Blade has put the mic on the back burner (but not necessarily the pen) to champion his media channel @0521official. The ethos of the channel is to work together and build a scene through positive relationships in order to showcase good music without ego (in our humble opinion).

05:21 is going from strength to strength, interviewing legends such as Chester P, Mercury from Gunshot, Jonzi D, with live performances from Prospects, Joker Starr, Gee Bag and many more to come.

UK Hip Hop needs people like Blade, UK Hip Hop needs MORE people like Blade. For knowledge, humour and most importantly, unity.

26 Oct 2021THE GREAT UK RAPPERS DEBATE (aka OUR MOST HATED EPISODE) Part 101:45:15

AND WE'RE BACK! We recently asked you on Instagram to vote for who you think is the "greatest technical rapper from the UK".

There was a very diverse response with many obvious choices, some not so obvious, and a few in between. After a bloody long hiatus, we are back to tackle the near impossible task of debating and categorising EVERY rapper in the list and giving our own takes on it. We also call out a few glaring omissions.

Shouts to Mick Swagger for the guest appearance and for handling editing duties on this episode.

Let us know what you thought of the discussion and hit us up on Instagram @shotguntheaux

Stay tuned for part 2 coming soon!
