23 Feb 2022What Men Really Want, With Divorced Dad & Co-Creator Of Divorced Over 40, Daniel Herrold01:03:20

Send us a text

This week, we discuss what men want. Today's guest is Daniel Herrold and he's the co-creator of Divorced Over 40, a rapidly growing community with tribes in fifty cities and seven countries worldwide. Daniel provides a man's perspective on dating, relationships and just about everything women are straight-up confused about these days! He helps translate the difficult conversations you may have with guys. He gives insight into what men may be thinking and, better yet, what they really meant. He also helps us spot the signs to differentiate between good and bad behavior. Daniel encourages dating with a purpose i.e. knowing what you want in a partner and getting clear about your next chapter. Daniel finally offers tips for protecting your time around those who don’t align with you and how to be proactive by playing offense instead of defense.

Daniel Herrold is the co-creator of Divorced Over 40, an online and in-person community of divorced women and men. This incredibly curated group provides support through content on its social media channels and hosts live events so that those navigating divorce can cultivate new friendships. Divorced Over 40 has over 10,000 members and has formed virtual tribes worldwide in just over a year. Daniel is also the founder of the Intentional Dating Club. He's a writer of all things divorce and known for his blog and his viral Divorced Dad Tik Tok videos, which offer dating tips. Daniel is a proud divorced dad of three daughters, who lives in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and is dedicated to changing the stigma of divorce.

Once Daniel found himself divorced in his 40s, he began looking for friendships and doing what most people do... diving straight into dating to avoid the pain of loneliness. In this episode, he shares how connecting with others, who are in the same situation, allowed him to heal and ignited his passion for helping others.

Kerry Brett and Daniel Herrold cover a lot of ground. Topics include;
Why women should stop accepting poor behavior from men.
When bad behaviors are shown early it’s better to cut your losses and move on.
Don’t make excuses why bad behaviors exist. Chances are, they are only going to get worse.
Slow and steady wins the race when dating someone new.
How to ask the right questions to see if someone is aligned with you.
If one person tries to push the agenda of the status of the relationship, it’s likely to blow up.
If someone ghosts you, they are showing a lack of respect and it is what it is, no explanation needed, the memo has been received – move along and consider yourself lucky.
Don’t be too accessible and watch the frequency of your communication. Don’t fall into the trap of burning the roast because you got too ambitious in the kitchen. If things progress too quickly either person is most likely to lose steam.
The importance of avoiding negativity in your profile.
It’s better to fill your profile of what you do want rather than what you don’t. And remember men love positive winners.
You can’t change men, make sure your expectations are aligned. A serious dater and casual dater are like oil and vinegar.
Stop putting so much pressure on the first date. Doesn’t friendship come before marriage? Use a date as an opportunity to find a new friendship.
The breakdown of intentional dating.
How to manage your expectations to avoid pain and heartbreak.
How to navigate dating in a healthy way when it’s too soon to date.

03 Mar 2022Art of Swiping Right: A Tinder Success Story With Scott Stunzenas And Kerry Brett00:45:10

Send us a text

I can’t believe it! Today is my 100th episode and in honor of this milestone I have a very special guest, my boyfriend Scott Stunzenas. We discuss how we became a Tinder Success Story. I understand what works and what doesn't because I’ve tested it all, then used what I learned to find love. Scott was my MVP on Tinder, and I want to encourage all my listeners to give more people a chance and be open to all possibilities because you never know what package your person will come in. You’ve heard me talk about him on the past 99 episodes and now it’s time to put him in the Hot Seat! Hear his side of the story while he shares all the right moves he made after swiping right.

Honestly, Shot@Love wouldn't exist if it weren't for Scott – he saw that I had valuable information and he encouraged me to get out of my own way and help others by developing this podcast. Behind the scenes, there were lots of nights full of tears and fear around telling my own story. He reminded me that Shot@Love was not about me; it was about the person struggling to get it right and find love. Thankfully, on our first date he saw my heart, not a girl who felt like a disaster at the time, crying into her paper napkin. I was successful on Tinder because I pushed through the pain, dragged my sorry sad soul into the shower, kept swiping and kept going. Until one day I swiped right on an photograph of Scott, who lived 13 miles away, graduated from American University and was looking for love in all the wrong places and the rest is history!

Kerry Brett and Scott Stunzenas break down their online dating journey and how they became a Tinder Success Story.

Why dating is a numbers game and how to increase your odds.
Why you should avoid sending a thank you text after the date. Thank the other person on the date that night.
Do not send double texts if you don’t get a response.
Why the breakthrough is always the last key on the key chain – it’s always  that last key that unlocks the door.
Why you should avoid showing up as the representative.
The importance of managing expectations.
Dating is a numbers game and why it’s all about timing.
It’s also all about curb appeal and first impressions.
Why you should pay attention to the buzz words you put in your bio.
Why you should take risks sending edgy or funny responses.
Make no apology for your personality. You’ll be too much for some, those aren’t your people.
Your success is found in your daily routine. Everyday aim to be 1 percent better than the day before.
Stop trying to be perfect because perfect doesn’t exist! Beauty is an inside job and begins the moment you decide to be yourself.
Never water yourself down because someone can’t handle you at 100 proof. A real man isn’t threatened by your talents or abilities.

To find out more about Scott Stunzenas follow on Instagram @scottstunzenas or on FaceBook under his name.  After you’ve found love and decide to take the next step contact Scott at Compass because he will help you find your forever home.  To find out more about my Master Class go to shotatlove.co.

22 Mar 2022You Need A Dating Coach To Get Relationship Ready With Dating Coach, Lori Mendelsohn00:49:45

Send us a text

Today's guest is Lori Mendelsohn. She's a dating app profile writer, dating coach, and matchmaker. This week's topic is why you need a dating coach. Lori will break down the difference between a dating coach and a therapist and why there is such a huge difference. Dating coaches help you move into the future, identify your blocks and create a structure to achieve your goal faster. A dating coach gets you relationship ready while helping you break past patterns. Asking our family and friends for dating advice is not the best way to go because often we're asking advice from those who have never been on a dating app, which is why we should ask a professional. Lori shares why it's important to keep an open and curious mind– And like the great coach Ted Lasso said, "Be curious, not judgmental."

Lori Mendelsohn is a dating app profile writer, matchmaker, dating coach, and award-winning entrepreneur. She writes unique profiles that help you not only tell your story by adding some swagger, levity, and humor because, after all, laughter is the best Mendelsohn. Lori is excellent at helping you write a dating profile that stops suitors in their tracks. When Lori writes, you find love. In this episode, Kerry Brett and Lori Mendelsohn break down why hiring a dating coach is in your best interest. Topics include;

You should be curious, not judgmental, because who's to say what type of person will make you happy. Stay curious; on a date, have a conversation of curiosity-ask the other person where they see themselves in five years? This question will give you a lot of information.
Why a dating coach can save you emotional energy and time when navigating these dating sites.
Dating coaches have a playbook and identify what skills you need to improve.
Setbacks are not failures; it's an opportunity to learn and course-correct once you realize your mistakes.
Why hiring a dating coach will help you discover what's not working and help you put a new plan in place.
Dating coaches will identify the patterns we need to break, remove blocks, and figure out why you are pulling in the same type of people.
How to build off of your strengths and put new strategies in place so you can play to win.
An investment in yourself is so worth it because what counts is the inside work you've done on yourself.
Why you shouldn't trust the opinions of friends or family and work with a professional.
Why blind spots are almost impossible to see when your heart is involved.
Look closely at the qualities you want in a partner. Are you focusing on the wrong things, or are you being overly selective?
This is not Build a Bear. You aren't assembling a stuffed animal. It's impossible to be all things to all people.
Why it's so important to live in the present and enjoy the moment without any expectations.

15 Apr 2022It's All About Reactions - How To Stay In Control & In Our Power With Special Victims Investigator Will Kesselman00:59:13

Send us a text

Today’s topic is about the power of mindset and how to manage and control our response to others when dating. This week’s guest is Special Victim’s Investigator Will Kesselman, an expert in dynamic and repetitive patterns. He shares what he’s learned on the job. His acquired skills in psychology, coaching, consulting, and advanced knowledge around trauma so we can sharpen our skills around judgment. Decide which people to avoid and who is worthy of our time. He’ll share strategies he’s used in leading thousands of women to safety. HIS theories around emotional reactions–so you can stay in control and remain in power. We’ll discover that you don’t have to be phenomenally skilled to succeed; you need to be phenomenally willed, and if you want to find love, you absolutely can as long as you stay determined because where there is a will, there’s a way!

Will Kesselman, Special Victims Investigator, Social Impact Strategist, speaker, and, Founder and President of Control and Power Strategy, a Domestic Violence- Divorce Consulting Trauma Coaching agency. After experiencing trauma, he chose to dedicate his life to protecting others. With over 14 years of experience, through his consulting and coaching company, Will continues to help empower mostly women, and sometimes men, to protect themselves, even potentially saving lives. Through his company, Will specializes in revealing to his clients the hidden information known mostly to government investigators, police, and judges; and how they think and react to situations. Will has helped thousands navigate government and community systems to safety. Will has also recently been on a "live" private FB group (for Domestic Violence) with over 10 thousand members, podcasts, and a radio show on KLAA for Southern California.

Today, Will teaches us that we can respond differently to how others treat us and that we can be in control of our feelings and our emotions. Kerry Brett and Will Kesselman cover a lot of ground. Topics include;

How to use pain to catapult you forward, especially in online dating.
Will’s golden rule of being responsive, not reactive, and how it serves him in his life.
How behavior can lead to thoughts, then thoughts lead to emotions.
How we feel about ourselves matters in who they will attract.
How women have a gatekeeper which is usually a best friend or sister, when vetting people to date.
How to get an emotional response with the words you use when texting.
A big red flag to Will is someone who's not flexible; the relationship is being set up as one-sided, or the person is being too dominant. This is trouble and not going to work.
Women should never settle or make excuses for poor behavior because they don’t want to start over.
Why it’s so difficult to leave a toxic relationship because of the emotional bonding.
Why women are likely to get addicted to a relationship quicker than a man.
Narcissists have to feed and are brilliant manipulatives and need to have a woman to dominate.
Will’s advice around the mistakes women make when dating?
Women need to understand they have more control and are worth more than they think.
The importance of a buddy system when dating.

This week is part two of The Ultimate Funny Guy’s Survival Guide for Hard Times with comedian and actor Lenny Clarke. In part one, Lenny shared his story of finding fame and fortune then losing it all. At one point he had more than he could ever dream. He remembers standing on his roof in Marina Del Ray overlooking the canal, having everything money could buy but he wasn’t happy. He was morally and spiritually bankrupt. His hit sitcom Lenny got cancelled, his health was deteriorating, and his marriage was falling apart. In this episode Lenny shares how he found the strength to get sober, believe in himself and find love. We all go through difficult times, but it will get easier, but we need to hang on in order to get there. And why we can’t quit five minutes before the miracle. Lenny shares his strategies for moving forward, healing a broken heart and why we all deserve and can achieve happiness.

Lenny Clarke is one of the biggest names in comedy. Aside from his roles in television and films, Lenny is a person who would do anything for someone who was hurting. Lenny’s been interviewed by Talk Show Host Jimmy Kimmel on Jimmy Kimmel Live! And by podcaster Joe Rogan, the host of The Joe Rogan Experience so it’s an honor to have him back on Shot@Love.

Kerry Brett and Lenny Clarke cover a lot of ground. Topics include;
Why when you’re not looking for love – love finds you.
Give someone a compliment and encourage someone else because there’s not enough of that! Think about the time when you were at your lowest point and someone was kind to you – pay it forward and do the same for someone else.
We all go through bad times, but it will get easier. You got to hang in there, and you can’t quit five minutes before the miracle.
Nothing will fulfill you but you. Take from Lenny who learned that fame or money wasn’t enough – you have to realize that you are enough – just the way you are.

13 Jun 2022Nice Guys DO Exist! How To Find Them On Match.Com With Kristine Brennan00:46:23

Send us a text

Do you think your life needs to be perfect to find love? This is not true, and today's episode will prove otherwise while instilling hope in humanity and changing your negative beliefs around online dating. Sometimes life throw's so many things at you that it's impossible to handle them on your own, and when you think things can't get any worse, you can catch a break, and an amazing knight in shining armor can ride up on a horse because you swiped right! This week's guest is my oldest friend Kristine Brennan, and her journey and love story are unbelievably inspirational. In this week's episode, Kristine shares tips around online dating and all of the mistakes she made until she finally got it right!

Kristine Brennan is a full-time nurse and a divorced mother of three who grew up in a coastal town called Hingham, just outside of Boston. Kristine had no idea she had Lyme disease when she was pregnant with her children until she passed it in utero to her kids. Her oldest, Delaney, has been dealing with debilitating symptoms for most of her childhood. She's spent years on crutches and in a wheelchair and has suffered too many procedures and hospitalizations. Kristine has taken her all over the country, trying to get Delaney well while paying out of pocket as a single mother. These trips for treatments forced Kristine to be on her fourth family medical leave. Lyme disease has deteriorated and weakened Delaney's immune system; she only tolerates her hydration and nutrition through a feeding tube. Delaney's younger brother and sister also have congenital Lyme and are treated by a homeopathic practice in California. Insurance does not cover Lyme Disease, which creates havoc and financial hardship in your life. A Go Fund Me has been established to help the Brennan family, and I will share details later on how to donate.

During all of these incredible challenges, Kristine kept going, searching for a cure, and finding love online throughout all of these personal challenges. I'm excited to share Kristine's unbelievable story of love, strength, and resilience!

Kerry Brett and Kristine Brennan cover a lot of ground. Topics include;
Tips for finding a nice guy online.
How to look for what's truly important.
How to make shifts within yourself to pull in a great person.
Why not prioritizing what you're looking for in a partner is a big mistake.
Why bitterness has no place in online dating.
Pay attention to the men who write long and caring messages – this is a sign of someone serious about finding a relationship.
Kristine's dating advice for busy working parents.
How to look for someone who makes your life easier.
How to stop caring what other people think. Is he shorter than you? Who cares? Don't have so many rules that look good to others but make you feel bad about yourself.
What are the boxes that you're looking to check? How many of those boxes are based solely on looks or on other people's opinions as opposed to what you think you deserve or makes you happy.

Please contribute to the Go Fund Me fundraiser on behalf of Delaney's Journey. Kristine and Delaney are traveling for treatments in the hopes that this will finally put an end to the debilitating symptoms that she has been suffering for most of her childhood. All of these costs are out pocket as Lyme Disease is not covered by medical insurance, and Kristine is on her fourth (unpaid) medical leave. I hope that we can ease some of the financial burdens that has been accumulated over the past decade. We appreciate any support you can give – no amount is too small. You can make donations at www.gofundme.com and search Delaney's Journey. And with your help - one day we'll be able to say Delaney is cured by your caring and kindness. The Brennan family thanks you in advance from the bottom of their hearts.

Are you leading with loneliness? Let’s find out! Today’s guest is Annie Parker. In this week’s episode, she’ll teach you how to regain your power, close that door on an ex and make room for your future and use your intuition when dating to attract the love you deserve.

Remove feelings of lack and loneliness because sometimes, when swiping, it feels like you have many options, but there’s a difference between perceived options and a real authentic connection. It all depends on your mindset and energy when dating, how you feel about yourself, and what’s truly possible for you.

*How to release energies that don’t serve you anymore.
*How to cut cords with ourselves and our perceived failures.
*How to trust yourself and listen to your intuition.

*Why getting your energy aligned helps you listen to your intuition.
*How to avoid having your emotions overrun your intuition and look at what is really happening.
*How to avoid leading with loneliness and approach dating from a place of abundance.
*Your energy around dating always comes down to how you feel about yourself.
*Any time you question someone – if it’s not a hell yes, it’s a hell no!
*People must have the same values; you don’t have to like the same things, but you must have the same values. If you’re clear about what you want, then the trash will take itself out.

18 Aug 2022Staying Together: Oscar Winner Chris Cooper & Marianne Leone Cooper, Actor/Writer Talks Highs Of Hollywood, Trading Off In Tough Times And Being A Team00:57:27

Send us a text

Today's topic is staying together. Every love story is profoundly different and unique. And for those who don't find everlasting love, we head to the movies to be reminded that it is possible and does exist. Movies teach humanity and make us feel less alone. They lift us up and instill hope. And sometimes we need movies so we can momentarily forget our lives and have a good cry or laugh so hard we forget why we were crying in the first place! If you are a great actor – their words and story are believable, and it can be life-changing. And if that character prevails through extreme hardship, their impact can be even greater. Today's guest is Oscar-winning actor Chris Cooper and his wife Marianne Leone Cooper, who's also an actress and writer, and their love story is beyond beautiful! They've lived through the most difficult of times–enduring the loss of their only son Jesse. Yet somehow, they learned to continue on–put their gifts and pain into purpose, leading Chris to win an Academy Award and Golden Globe Award and Marianne to write the best-selling memoir "Knowing Jesse, A Mother's Story of Grief, Grace and Everyday Bliss," which honors their precious child. Surviving and thriving through all these experiences wouldn't be possible without their love for each other. I've watched Chris's Academy Award acceptance speech many times to remind myself that true love is real and doesn't only exist in the movies.

Chris Cooper is an actor known for his Oscar-winning performance in Adaptation and roles in American Beauty, The Bourne Identity, Seabiscuit, Capote, A Time to Kill, and Breech, to name a few. His wife, Marianne Leone Cooper, is a writer and screenwriter. She's known for her published memoirs and essays. She's also an actress most recognized for playing the role of Christopher Moltisanti's mother on the Sopranos. I admire them so much and the love they share. Today they share their powerful story and what it takes to Stay Together!

Kerry Brett, Chris Cooper, and Marianne Leone Cooper cover a lot of ground. Topics include;
Having different personalities is a strength and can help balance difficult times.
What being a team looks like within a relationship?
Find someone who makes you laugh so hard that you lose it! Having fabulous humor is key and awfully important in staying together.
The importance of leading your partner when the other is lost.
Why being a team was survival during challenges.
When experiencing loss, don't expect your partner to grieve the same way. You can't expect others to feel how you feel at all times. Practice patience, not resentment, and have empathy.
Mutual respect and kindness are crucial, don't be kinder to your friends than the love of your life. And don't forget to say thank you – it goes a long way.

03 Nov 2022Love Can Find You With 14th & 2nd Author, Charlie Cifarelli00:39:30

Send us a text

This week I have the privilege to highlight the incredible story of Charlie Cifarelli. Charlie had everything in life he set out to achieve until one day; his world fell apart over a national story about a dog named Star. What started as a journey to save a dog, in turn, would save him. Star taught Charlie everything he needed to learn about love. Charlie went from having a transactional life with value on useless things and realized what he thought he wanted didn’t make him happy. We look for love because we believe it will complete us – but the truth is LOVE is universal. We can be in a relationship or have a dream home or career, yet often, it does not equate to happiness. Charlie share’s his tips around having a successful relationship, why comparison is the thief of joy, the value of finding purpose and why having gratitude is most important!

Charlie Cifarelli, is an author, motivational speaker, businessman and dog lover, with a focus on rescues, in fact he has seven! In his early twenties he became homeless and addicted to drugs. He went into recovery after being directed to a Monastery where he got clean and sober, finally after numerous attempts. Circumstances led him to the Midwest where he lived in Nebraska for 25 years working at three maximum security prisons. He worked on death row, connecting with the inmates on a deep level - he became the inmates favorite! After seeing enough sadness - he started a trash business with the hopes of having a life of freedom and happiness which only made him miserably comfortable. It wasn’t until August 13, 2012 that his world would collide with a dog who was reported to be and killed in New York City by a police officer while protecting her owner – who was homeless. For the first time in Charlie’s life he believed in something he couldn’t see at the corner of 14th and  2nd.

Today, Charlie shares his story of love. Love for his little girl Star “his snoopy” a dog so special - she’s on Wikipedia with the likes of Rin Tin Tin and Lassie. Charlie believes love starts in many places and carries over. He’ll share how rescuing Star connected him with people globally and how love found him in the most unlikely place on the corner of 14th & 2nd. Tune into this beautiful story of redemption, hope and most importantly love.

14 Nov 2022Avoid An Inquisition & Loss Of Interest With Date Detective Randy "Moose" Gomez00:38:53

Send us a text

Today's topic is how to avoid questions that lead to interrogations. Getting to know someone is one thing but placing a person in the hot seat can be stressful and off-putting. Many ask Q&A-style questions because they need to know, but in the early stages of dating, you're on a need-to-know basis. There's a better way to gain information, and that's by listening! This week's guest will lend his expert ear and share strategies for gathering data. His name is Randy "Moose" Gomez, and he's the "Date Detective" and an experienced PI and Bail Bondsman. We'll learn why to avoid pop quizzes, 20 questions – and one-time-at-band-camp stories. And why it's important to remind yourself this is only a date; you're not a cop on CSI; it's a courtship, not Judge Judy's courtroom.

Randy, AKA "Moose" Gomez, the "Date Detective," is a cowboy and a single dad from New Mexico. He's also a trainer for world champion boxers, on the board of directors for PAL Boxing Club, President of Moose Inc., and founder of the "US" charity. Moose worked as a Bail Bondsman, a Recovery Agent, and a Private Investigator for most of his professional life. During that period, Moose learned a lot about people, especially when he bailed someone out of jail. And at that moment, he listened during that car ride home when people often spilled their life stories. He also learned about the power of listening, and in today's world, we are rarely present.

A few months ago, I covered how con artists and scammers have doubled online during the pandemic in my episode How to Avoid the Tinder Swindler with the "Date Detective" Randy "Moose" Gomez, and today he's back by popular demand. He'll share strategies around keeping a date, a date not the Spanish Inquisition.

Kerry Brett and Randy "Moose" Gomez cover a lot of ground topics, include;

Why to avoid interrogation style questions.
Instead of directly asking others about their line of work, ask them about their passions. Their passion will tell you a lot about them personally.
The value of the art of listening when getting to know someone else.
Avoid predetermined questions and keep the conversation fluid.
If you're not getting the answers you want – let it go and come back to it at another time.
Why we should avoid over-sharing in the beginning of dating.
Don't rely on an agenda or a list of questions. If you have a rigid agenda, you'll stick to it, and a date should be fluid.
Why the best conversations or interviews are not planned?
When people tell you who they are, believe them.
Get clear about your what and your why. Why are you on the date, and what are you trying to accomplish?

Send us a text

Today we’ll discuss dating faux pas with Flora Ong, dating coach and founder of Redo Love. Flora feels one of the most unattractive things you can do is tell people who you are instead of showing them. People with a lot of unhealed trauma tend to live behind what Flora calls “a meme and a dream."  Flora shares tips around communicating better, trusting yourself, and learning why you attract the kind of people you do. She also shares what she’s learned from multiple failed dating episodes, anxious moments, sleepless nights, and painful lessons. She teaches us how to identify our specific attachment style so we don’t end up dating the same people who will never give us the love we deserve. Flora covers setting boundaries, avoiding wasting time with the wrong people, and stopping questioning yourself or the need to ask your friends for their opinions. You’ll hear how to date better people while finding peace in the process and look for love in all the right places.

Flora Ong is a divorcee and single mother of two. She's also a matchmaker, dating coach, and founder of Redo Love. Flora's sole focus is helping others find peace, trust, and safety in dating. She's a certified life coach and trauma-informed specialist focusing on attachment styles and helps people understand how they were programmed to have the life they do and how to reprogram their subconscious so they can have the life they want. She's a natural connector with a knack for understanding compatibility, and Flora is responsible for hundreds of relationships. She is also an expert at making intuitive matches and helping her clients find the right fit.

Kerry Brett and Flora Ong cover a lot of ground and topics, including;

How to stop ruminating over people who aren’t worth your while.
How to stop looking for security through other people.
The importance of learning about your attachment style.
How to stop living off a meme or a dream?
Why memes can act as barriers or devices to hide behind when texting.
How to get to a place where you trust yourself and do not have to rely on your friends’ opinions?
Why people don’t listen to others’ dating advice? They listen to their subconscious.
How the book Attached was the catalyst and became the blueprint for Flora.
You can cut things off early when you learn to trust your intuition.

08 Dec 2022When In Doubt, Don't Send The Text! With Redo Love Founder, Flora Ong (Part Two)00:45:12

Send us a text

Today, we welcome back Flora Ong, the incredible dating coach and founder of Redo Love! And she discusses how to stop responding to low-effort behavior. Engaging in low-effort behavior creates more of the same. It also shows others what we will accept or tolerate. Unfortunately, we avoid cutting off low-effort behavior because we don't want to feel empty or lonely or have to look within ourselves to figure out why we were accepting this kind of behavior from the beginning. Flora shares how understanding yourself and your attachment style is valuable and why once you figure this out– you discover this is something you can control and, in turn, change the outcome. We’ll learn how women give their power away by being easily accessible, readily available, or by responding in a weak moment. And learn how to avoid these traps, understand subconscious manipulations, and why it's human nature to want to keep a connection going but not at the cost of being mistreated.

Flora Ong is the founder of Redo Love, a dating and relationship coach, and a matchmaker. She has set up 100’s of matches with an 85% success rate. After a failed 14-year marriage, she joined the millions of online/app daters in her search for love. During this process, she discovered she had no idea how to date, love, and be loved. Flora turned all her blunders into a quest to find her way into love and help others who struggled with similar issues. Her focus is to help others identify their blocks around dating to find the love they want while experiencing peace in the process.

If you’ve listened to my most recent episode, “How to Stop Living off a Meme and a Dream," with Flora Ong – you’ll understand why I immediately had to bring her back for part two. Today we’ll discuss handling text messages, learning when to attach and detach and why the right person feels different to your nervous system.

Kerry Brett and Flora Ong cover a lot of ground topics, including:

How to stop being a lifetime responder or someone who needs to know every little thing or respond to every text?
Why you don’t want to be with someone who doesn’t want to be with you.
When things end, you shouldn’t focus on the highlight reel; you should focus on the documentary.
When you find the right one, you won’t need to write lists of why he’s not calling in your note section on your phone, and you won’t feel confused, anxious, or bad about yourself – you’ll feel happy and at peace.
When in doubt, don’t send the text! You can write the text you want to send and take a screenshot so you can remember it the next day but know your power remains in your silence.
Always remember you’re the architect of your destiny and in control of your future. Stop focusing on the negative and focus on the things you want to create more of that.

16 Dec 2022Memoir Of Love: Embracing New Chapters With Novelist Elin Hilderbrand00:44:25

Send us a text

Today's episode is titled "A Memoir of Love: How to Embrace New Chapters with novelist Elin Hilderbrand”. Elin Hilderbrand is the author of 28 best-selling books and the queen of the beach read. She’s in town working on her last revisions for book #29! Her muse is the magical island of Nantucket, and her novels include stories of romance, friendships, ex-wives, passionate affairs, and matchmaking. People often wonder how much of Elin's real life is behind these pages - if you think the characters she composes are riveting, wait until you hear her story. She's overcome personal tragedy, heartbreak, divorce, and is an eight-year breast cancer survivor. She relied on discipline, consistency, and determination to overcome it all! We'll hear how she focused on the things she loved…such as writing, her family, her adoring fans, an island 30 miles out, and how having compassion for others gave her strength when she needed it the most. We also hear a romance novelist's advice for finding love.

Elin Hildebrand is an American novelist who graduated from Johns Hopkins University and later attended the University of Iowa, earning her MFA. After a short stint in publishing and teaching in New York City, she moved to Nantucket permanently in 1994. In the summer of 2000, she published her first novel, the Beach Club. Her 2019 novel, Summer of 69, debuted at #1 on the New York Times bestseller list. Five of her books are currently being optioned for movies, and a six-episode limited series has been green-lighted for Netflix. She's also a mother of three who loves cooking, riding her Peloton, and going to the beach.

 Kerry Brett and Elin Hilderbrand cover a lot of ground in this conversation. Topics include;

Why you need to worry about yourself first – do the work on yourself. Once you’re good and strong, you will attract people.

11 Jan 2023Sober Dating Is A Superpower! With "Drinking Games" Author, Sarah Levy00:42:19

Send us a text

Today’s guest is Sarah Levy; she’s a writer in recovery and author of the new book “Drinking Games.” At the age of 28, Sarah, on paper, looked like she had it all together, a great job – and a successful life that was on track. The truth was she felt empty and alone, suffered from blackouts, and repeatedly put herself in dangerous situations. Sarah thought using alcohol helped heal her broken heart, empowered her to date, and quenched her thirst for validation. But drinking only numbed her pain and dimmed her light as she dated different kinds of men, feeling perpetually hung over and spiritually bankrupt. When she gave up alcohol, she thought her life was over. But for Sarah, her last sip was the moment when her life started. In sobriety, she fell in love, changed careers, moved across the country, got married, published a must-read book, and became the woman she is today. If you’re looking to change your relationship with alcohol, are sober curious, or want to be inspired, then this episode is for you!

Sarah Levy is the author of Drinking Games, a memoir in essays from St. Martin’s Press. Her writing has appeared in The New York Times, New York Magazine (The Cut), Glamour, Elle, Vogue, Refinery29, and Cosmopolitan, among other publications. Sarah has written articles such as “Falling In Love Without Alcohol” and “Giving Up Alcohol Made Me Date Again Like a Teenager.” Drinking Games has been named most anticipated by Good Morning America, Good Day DC, the LA Times, New York Post, Zibby Mag, Buzzfeed Books, Pure Wow, and Apple Books to name a few. And the favorable reviews keep on coming! Sarah is a graduate of Brown University and lives in Los Angeles by way of New York City.

I’m excited to feature Sarah on Shot@Love today and admire her greatly for spreading awareness around sobriety and her goals to change the culture around addiction and alcoholism. I hope you enjoy this conversation.

08 Feb 2023Fail It Till You Nail It When Dating! With "Failure Guy" Ben Currier00:41:26

Send us a text

This week's topic is finding the key to unbreakable confidence. You must put yourself out there– when looking for love, you can fake it until you make it or fail it to nail it! We all have failures of epic proportions and go through several failed relationships, which are inevitable, but they can also provide valuable opportunities. Today's guest is Ben Currier, the World’s #1 Biggest Failure and host of the podcast The Failure Guy. Ben was fired repeatedly and couldn’t figure out why he wasn't succeeding. He'll share why failure has many benefits, like getting honest with yourself and improving self-awareness. Failing inspires creativity and encourages innovative solutions to problems. And why we can quickly turn it around and go in another direction because we all have a get out of fail free card.

Self-proclaimed World's #1 Failure Ben Currier hosts the ironically successful “Failure Guy” podcast. His podcast currently has a global reach: that Spotify-owned Chartable ranks higher than 99.8% of all Podcasts. He is an Excel guru, 4-time Microsoft MVP Award Winner, and creator of one of the six Best Online Excel Classes per Investopedia. His Excel training has over 25 million minutes of listening time, and he’s helped millions with his online Excel training.

He inspires others across the country through his hit podcast, public speaking engagements and has interviewed many big names, such as Carole Baskin, and William Hung, to name a few.

Why you should take a chance to stand out in online dating.
Why you should be weirder than you are.
Take risks in texts and stop trying to be like everyone else.
Remember to remind yourself that no one is perfect and that everyone is flawed.
Why having low expectations is helpful while hoping for the best outcomes.
Dating is a percentage game, the more dates you go on–the more comfortable you’ll get and the higher the chance you’ll have of succeeding.
Don’t be afraid to fail! Do at least one thing on a date outside of your comfort because that’s where the magic happens.
Fake it until you make it or Fail it until you nail either way will work. And remember action creates reaction.

05 Apr 2023Attract Love With Five Essential Shifts: Love & Dating Coach Lisa Shield00:50:16

Send us a text

You have the power to transform your life and write your own love story, and today we'll hear from a special guest who did just that. Lisa Shield is a world-renowned love, dating, and relationship coach whose journey to love didn't start as a fairy tale. It began as an unhappily married fashion photographer who entered the dark room and emerged into a lighted hallway when she realized the stories we tell ourselves dictate who we become. We make it up, all of it. Lisa decided that if she was making it up, she might as well make it good. And that she had the power to change her life, take control of the narrative, and write a new story. She divorced, changed the portrait of a woman who was always sad, left a dysfunctional relationship, and embarked on a path of self-discovery. In two years, she went on 95 dates. On the 96th date, she met her husband, who encouraged her to become one of the first love coaches twenty years ago.

Lisa Shield is a love, dating, and heart-opening ninja with two decades of experience. She is a pioneer in the field of love coaching. Lisa earned a master's degree in Spiritual Psychology and is a certified life and relationship coach. She has been a featured expert in The Huffington Post, Buzzfeed, LA Times, ABC News, and Cosmopolitan, to name a few. Last year, twelve of Lisa's clients were married, and she officiated four of those weddings. She and her husband, Benjamin, have been together for over 20 years and live with their two dogs in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Today we discuss what men want in a woman, and Lisa shares her wisdom while encouraging us to take power back and take control of our love life. Kerry Brett and Lisa Shield cover a lot of ground and topics, including:

Tips around the importance of being present on the first date.
Small acts of kindness, caring, and being a great listener can go a long way on the date.
Getting emotionally naked is the most challenging part, but if you let your guard down will gain an extra point on the date.
Look for your final five. Throw away the list that everyone has and create a relationship inventory that will lead you to your final five. And remember, he doesn't have the final five; you can't date him.
Men want to be hunters, and if we have a checklist and put them in a box, men are very sensitive to a woman who want to take away their freedom and clip their wings.
We must move away from looks; are we choosing someone from our heads or hearts?
There is a difference between being a strong, successful woman and being competitive.
Stop creating rules; every hoop you put up is another restriction on men. Men don't like jumping through hoops. Men want women who make their world bigger because you're in it.
No man is going to allow women to put them on a shortlist. You must understand that a man's bandwidth is smaller than a woman's.
There is a big difference between genuine emotion and drama.
We have to learn how to talk to men without getting passive-aggressive.
Lisa’s five shifts to find love.

23 Jun 2023The Relationship Roadmap Defined With Dating Coach And Comedian, Paul Roseberry00:42:40

Send us a text

Are you settling for a better-than-nothing relationship? This week’s guest is standup comedian and dating coach Paul Roseberry, and he shares tips on how to avoid being trapped in relationships that don’t fulfill your needs. Paul brings in an objective perspective – as he’s someone with a hawk’s view because it’s easier for someone who’s not emotionally involved to see what’s happening. When emotions run high, logic becomes less. Are you wondering if you’re in a relationship or a situationship? He’ll share telltale signs to help us differentiate between genuine connections and temporary arrangements. And discuss how the way present yourself matters as it influences the type of relationships you attract and why no one will overpay if they don’t have too. And how to make sure you’re not undervalued or taken for granted.

Paul Roseberry is a Los Angeles based nationally headlining stand-up comedian and relationship coach both in person and as host of the podcast “Best Dating Advice... EVER!”. Paul’s comedy and relationship perspectives are designed to take a look at life from a bird’s eye view and make connections that most of us may otherwise never notice. Both of these crafts aim to make life more fun for just about anybody!

Becoming a dating coach was not a conscious intention at first and began with helping one co-worker to repair a breakup during a lunch break. After this, the word began to travel and other co-workers and even his real estate clients began approaching him for advice. After hearing consistent praise from everyone who sought his help, Paul decided to take on paying clients and his success rate continued. Already a fan of public speaking and a lover of scalable, reproducible modules, Paul created his podcast to reach a wide net of listeners and offer firm solutions to common dating and relationships problems in bite size, easy to use practices. Paul’s “Super Power” is recognizing that today’s men are in need of positive role models who can reinforce the value of masculinity, build confidence on a personal level and bring awareness of a man’s role in a balanced and healthy relationship and he believes he’s just the guy to deliver this message! Using organization, logic and reason, Paul builds a road map to navigating relationships that makes them as simple as driving, as long as you understand the signs, lines and lanes.

10 Dec 2024Find Success During the Holidays: From Loneliness to Purpose00:36:55

Find Success During the Holidays: From Loneliness to Purpose. The holiday season is often painted as a time of joy, connection, and celebration. Yet, for many, it can also be a period of deep loneliness, especially after life-altering events like a breakup, loss, or significant change. The journey from loneliness to purpose during the holidays is one of resilience, reflection, and transformation—a path that can lead to newfound success and fulfillment.

A Journey to Overcome Holiday Loneliness

Spending the holidays alone can feel overwhelming. Dr. Tricia Rose, a former optometrist turned life coach, knows this all too well. After her divorce, she faced the daunting prospect of navigating Christmas alone. But instead of succumbing to despair, Tricia used this time to turn inward, reflect, and ultimately transform her experience of solitude into one of peace and purpose.

Through her blog, "Rose Colored Glasses", Tricia shares actionable strategies to help others in similar situations. She emphasizes the importance of managing expectations and reframing the holidays as just another day, which can empower individuals to approach the season without undue pressure or anxiety.

Finding Meaning in Solitude

Dr. Tricia Rose and Kerry Brett dive into the nuances of loneliness versus solitude, offering insights on how carving out personal time can be a deliberate, fulfilling choice. For those wrestling with the "inner Grinch," holiday triggers can stir unresolved emotions. Yet, these moments also present opportunities for self-growth and healing.  Find Success During the Holidays: From Loneliness to Purpose.

Embracing solitude isn’t about isolation, it’s about finding peace in your own company. Self-compassion, kindness, and small, meaningful interactions can serve as powerful tools to bridge the gap between loneliness and connection.

Discovering Purpose Through Giving

One of the most effective ways to combat loneliness is by redirecting energy toward meaningful endeavors. Volunteering, engaging in charity work, or giving heartfelt, handmade gifts can create a ripple effect of positivity. Tricia and Kerry emphasize how stepping outside of daily routines and helping others can foster a sense of purpose and community.  Find Success During the Holidays: From Loneliness to Purpose.

The simple act of giving, whether it's time, attention, or a carefully chosen gift, can transform your holiday experience. These gestures not only uplift others but also provide a sense of accomplishment and joy that can brighten even the loneliest days.

Embracing Self-Care and Gratitude

Self-care plays a pivotal role in finding success during the holidays. Indulge in activities that bring you comfort, whether that’s cozying up with a good book, preparing your favorite meal, or exploring a new hobby. Gratitude is another key element; taking time to appreciate the good in your life, no matter how small, can shift your perspective and enhance your overall well-being.

Tune In and Transform Your Holiday

For more inspiration, tune in to podcasts on platforms like Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and NewsBreak, where Dr. Tricia Rose and Kerry Brett share their insights. Follow their journeys on Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn to discover more ways to find connection and purpose during the holidays.

This season, let go of the traditional notions of what the holidays "should" look like. Instead, embrace your unique journey, transforming loneliness into an opportunity for self-discovery and success. Whether through connection, giving, or self-care, you have the power to create a holiday filled with meaning and joy.  Find Success During the Holidays.
