01 Jun 2022Kyle's Farewell00:58:44

Shannon and Kyle talk about Shed Geek Changes

On this episode Shannon sits with the "WOO KING" Kyle Summers. As many of you have noticed, Kyle has not been on several of the most recent episodes.  We wanted to take some time to address that to the audience.  The podcast has provided both Kyle and I many opportunities and our desire to chase those opportunities had come front and center.

My goal is to continue with the podcast and provide education through entertainment and even grow the Shed Geek brand that can help manufacturers, haulers, dealers, and suppliers.  I am humbly asking for the industries cooperation in this endeavor.

As for Kyle, opportunities for him to fulfill his dreams mean a necessary exit from the podcast. This is simply due to the amount of time it takes to bring you the show each week. Our goal is to support each other in our individual endeavors and we hope you will support them too.  As Kyle says in the episode, "the Woo is not dead!"  Thank you for supporting both of us.  Enjoy the show.

03 Aug 2022Shed, Windows, And More00:57:13

Windows and hinges, and corbels....oh my.

On this episode Shannon talks with Thomas Slack of Shed Windows and More.  Nothing is more pleasant than a trip to Myrtle Beach, SC to visit with Shed folks.  Thomas and his team tell about the beginnings of their journey to search for a broken shed window, and how it become so much more all these years later.

This place is cool, and big, and guess what?  It's getting bigger.  That's right, they are outgrowing their current facility and have another in the works, to serve you, the shed builder.  I think you'll enjoy hearing Thomas' story, and how he even used to own a multi media company.  Thomas is one knowledgeable entrepreneur, and honestly, the conversation after the record button stop was as good as the show.

Be sure to listen, and enjoy, and give the folks at Shed Windows and more a call to see if they can help you today.

25 Jan 2023Realwork Labs01:00:16

On this episode of the Shed Geek Podcast Shannon speaks with George Converse of RealWork Labs. If you are a shed manufacturer or shed dealer this is a must listen. It's not just enough to be found online at the office, how about being found by the neighborhood where you are already selling sheds. With RealWork Labs you can stop chasing leads and let the leads come to you. If you want to know more about pinning your deliveries on Google Maps George discusses just how much this helps.

With a realtime screen share for those who view the episode on Youtube, you can see the increase in phone calls from current users, as many as 1,000 extra calls per month. If you are a high volume salesperson in a region, this episode explains how you could be sharing that information and showing potential customers who search for sheds all of their neighbors who have purchased from you or your company. This is a super informational episode and I was loving being a student of George's. Be sure to give him a call today, tell him the Shed Geek sent you.

01 Feb 2023Shedorize00:54:56

On this episode of the Shed Geek Podcast Shannon speaks with Dave Fisher of Shedorize!  Outside of just. being a great guy that brings a creative mindset to the shed life, Dave has some really cool products.  Dave talks about his background working in shed building and even home building, and how sheds seemed to always find a way back to the forefront of what he does.  I love it when an entrepreneur takes action.  Dave had done that with Shedorize.

He discussed the idea, and how the need for organization is something most shed buyers are looking for once they leave the lot.  Why not help them solve that problem before visiting the big box stores.  Whether a manufacturer who wants to add shed accesories to your line of sheds, a shed seller who wants an opportunity to upsell and help the customer before leaving the lot or a hauler who wants to add value as a final touch, Shedorize has options.  There are so many different products available.  Be sure to contact Dave Fisher to know more, tell him the Shed Geek sent you over for a discovery call.  Thanks everyone, your continued dedication to listen to the Shed Geek Podcast means the world to me and my family.  We wish the absolute best for yours!

08 Feb 2023Summit Portable Buildings00:56:10

On this episode of the Shed Geek Podcast Shannon speaks with Ervin Stutzman of Summit Portable Buildings in Farmington, MO. It's kind of tough for me to put in words my appreciation for Ervin. 1 Thessalonians 5:11 says, "Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing." Ervin was my first friend from the Anabaptist community. Our cultures were so different, and our upbringing very different. However, the common denominator was Christ, and it has been a privilege to know him. He is a good friend, and I appreciate him dearly.

Plus, he has a very awesome shed company, and it has been awesome to watch his oldest son Cameron turning into a shed builder. We were able to do a commercial for his company recently, the video is attached in the weekly email so take a look. This was one I had been looking forward to for some time. And, I think the biggest takeaway from it all is just the community aspect of what first pulled me into the shed industry. Thanks Ervin, for everything if I haven't said that enough. You'll always have a special place in my shed journey.

15 Feb 2023Shed Haulers/Midwest BBQ/GA BBQ01:15:07

On this episode of the Shed Geek Podcast Shannon speaks with, everyone! It sure feels like it. This episode features a compilation of mainly shed haulers from some of the BBQ events with an addition of a 20 shed manufacturer. Sorry for the delay as we were hoping to make 2 episodes but it hasn't worked out and we didn't want to wait any longer to get this interview out there. We always love hanging out with shed haulers and can't wait to be back at the hauler events happening this year.

Also, on this episode we speak with Cliff Knepp of Knepp Trucking, and organizer of the Midwest BBQ. Then we have a conversation with Martin Hostetler host of the Montezuma, GA BBQ, and Sam Byler from the Shed Hauler Brotherhood. We catch up with Andre Nussbaum and Steven Polkinghorn, haulers for Yoder Portable. Steven brings the youngest guest onto the show his son Travis. We finish the episode with a shed manufacturer with over 20 years of experience, Marvin Raber of Raber Portable Storage Barns who was an absolute joy to speak with in spite of my absent mindedness on this episode. It's a little lengthy but we got them all in for one episode. It's a little noisy but that's just real life at shed event. Thanks for listening, I hope you are entertained today and as always I appreciate everything.

22 Feb 2023Union Grove Lumber / Bestway Enterprises, Inc00:45:08

On this episode of the Shed Geek Podcast Shannon speaks with Connor Burke of Bestway Enterprises and Erica Goodnight of Union Grove Lumber. Hang on tight, the first 5 minutes was a struggle to keep reception, but it clears up and we're able to speak with a treatment geek. If learning about the in-depth process of what goes into the material treatment process is important to you then this episode has it all.

Connor and Erica steer the ship and take this geek to school. In my time in sales, one thing I remember was just how important product information was. If you are selling a product you want to be educated on what it is from top to bottom. Connor describes the dry kiln process, and the difference in air drying, dry kiln, drip drying and more. We wanted to give a special shoutout to our Studio Sponsor Union Grove Lumber for their dedication to the industry but also to their customer. So, they help us put together with Connor to offer an educational episode chalked full of helpful information.

On this episode of the Shed Geek Podcast Shannon speaks with Peter Miller of Miller Sheds in Dalton, GA, and Peter Boyle of Crossroads Sheds in Acadia, FL.  Peter Miller discusses getting started in the industry by connecting with Peter Boyle, and how things have progressed since he first began his career as a shed seller.

Both Boyle, and Miller discuss the difference in an order taker versus a professional shed seller, how to overcome ebbs and flows, the difference is preparing as a shed seller versus the owner of a sales lot who has to oversee salespeople.  There is discussion of sales ratios and the need to better connect shed sellers to harvest a more fruitful industry.

08 Mar 2023Calculate Business Services-Curt Paquette00:59:03

On this episode of the Shed Geek Podcast Shannon speaks with Curt Paquette, again, haha.  Since our last conversation Curt and his twin brother Clark have shifted focus from Calculate LLC to Calculate Business Services.  We discuss everything from helping companies focus on a mission, vision, values identity to helping with CRM's, finding financial assistance, and tax experts for your shed company.

Curt is always a pleasure to speak to.  He is a perfect example of a professional in his craft.  He and his brother love the Lord, and that comes through in the way they operate in business.  We talk about what is coming down the line, the possibility of a national brand, and more.  Give Curt a call and walk through a discovery call with him and Clark, you never know what just may come together.

09 Mar 2023Mobeno Solar Solutions00:49:45

On this episode of the Shed Geek Podcast Shannon speaks with Erez Halfon of Mobeno Solar Solutions. Erez created the Zulu ventilation unit to help bring cleaner air into your garage. The Zulu unit is comprised of 3 fans and powered by a magnetic solar panel allowing for a wire free solution to getting air circulation into your garage. You can leave the Zulu on 24/7 and you not only be purifying the air by keeping it from become stagnant, but also eliminating the threat of mold and allergy build up.

On the episode I mentioned to Erez it could perhaps be altered as a product to help replace the traditionally used louvered gable vents. The Zulu would help to create air movements as opposed to simply allowing for heat to exit without assistance. Erez is looking to connect with industry leaders, particularly manufacturing experts better speak on the application of the product. He is humble, kind, and hospitable and my favorite part of all creative. Give Erez a call if especially if you are moving a lot of portable garages, this product is a simple install and very creative.

22 Mar 2023Cedar Grove Law - Jonathan Williams01:12:18

On this episode of the Shed Geek Podcast Shannon speaks with Jonathan Williams of Cedar Grove Law.  Jonathan was such a fun guest to have on the podcast.  He has a wealth of knowledge in RTO, and has served the industry through litigation services.  Cedar Grove Law is based in North Carolina where Jonathan has practiced law in nearly every county in the state.  He can also serve in Tennessee, and Alabama so be sure to listen in as Jonathan brings some knowledge we all can use to the discussion around RTO.

I promise, being a Shed Geek comes with finding yourself in some of the neatest scenarios.  The episode was actually filmed inside the vault of an old bank which has since been turned into a shared space.  Have fun, listen in as we get deep in the weeds about criminal law and things that drive us to personal property law and how to handle those matters.

23 Mar 2023Foundation Bank-Chad Wilson01:04:46

On this episode of the Shed Geek Podcast, Shannon speaks with Chad Wilson of McKenzie Banking Company Foundation Bank.  We discuss Chad's long time commitment to the industry, and a legacy that has been passed down through several generations.  We discuss banking, dealer management, RTO details, and more.  Chad has a podcast named "Money Matters," be sure to check it out.

Foundation Bank has solutions for the shed hauler looking to get into a rig, but also the manufacturer as they have been in this shoes.  I really enjoyed the chance to speak with Chad and you will to.  Be sure to give them a call today, you will not be disappointed.

29 Mar 2023Rapid Shelves - Judson Hibner00:53:50

On this episode Shannon speaks with Judson Hibner of Rapid Shelves.  Due to technical difficulties the episodes audio is a bit low, but we decided not to re-do the episode because there was such good content.  Bare with us Shed Nation.  "Rapid Shelves is a tough, easy-to-use, affordable shelving system that keeps a shed decluttered."

I love Judson's take on decluttering the shed. We talk about how a clean area helps you be less stressed and make more clear decisions.  Seriously, I think we went way into the woods on this one and came out with some cool conversation.  I really think we miss the mark sometimes on up-selling opportunities within the industry.  This is one of those products that could help solve a problem for your customer.  Why let the big box store help solve a problem that you can solve before they leave the lot.  Listen in and enjoy. There are lots of nuggets of real life in this episode.

30 Mar 2023Esh's - Buildings for life00:58:32

On this episode Shannon speaks with Chad Gingerich of Esh's Utility Buildings in Burkesville, KY.  What a great time and an absolutely welcoming company.  Bear with me on the audio.  We had a mishap that limited our audio, but the interview was otherwise a conversation that was raw, and realistic.  Chad talks about acquiring the company 4 years ago after a long and successful career in concrete.  Since then, it has surpassed early expectations.

We discuss what acquisition looks like and how it seems to be on the rise.  We discuss how the customer is your boss and how good effective communication is the key.  Chad's philosophy is to focus on service and he has one of the best I've met to help with that task.  Chad is laid back, and focused.  Being at their company was a wonderful experience.  Sit back and enjoy a real and unfiltered conversation with a good hard working shed manufacturer.

In 2015, after returning from working four years in Afghanistan, owner Ryan Malham (against the wishes of his wife, Christy) moved forward with selling wooden and metal buildings at the Princeton location. 11 May 2023Adam Martin -- HM Advisors01:10:45

On this episode of the Shed Geek Podcast Shannon speaks with Adam Martin of HM Advisors.

"Unlike a captive, or direct insurance company who only offers their own proprietary products, our agency is 100% independent of any one company. Many insurance consumers don’t fully understand just how important that really is.

When it comes to something as important as insurance, it’s imperative that you work with an agency who has an in-depth knowledge of multiple insurance products, companies, and guidelines — not just one.

At the end of the day, what separates one agent from another, is their ability to proactively service their policy holders, and their knowledge of the insurance industry, products, and different situations that may present themselves to their clients."
