Kev and Randy lay out the plans for this spontaneous and hopefully humourous look at the catalogue of one of the greatest rock bands to ever grace the stage: Queen.

Every week, we'll will spin a wheel which contains songs from the entire Queen catalogue. Every week we'll talk about that song and look at background and live performances as well as listening through the song and commenting on different aspects of it. That song then comes off the wheel. At the end of each episode we'll each give our thumbs up or down for the song and remove it from the wheel. This format is lovingly copied from the most excellent And The Podcast Will Rock show, hosted by Corey Morrissette and Mark Camire. If you're into Van Halen, make sure you check that out!

We'll also most likely end up with guests and we'll almost certainly do bonus episodes covering things like live shows, books, and films.

We look forward to chatting with you on social media and you can find us in the following places:

03 Nov 2022Keep Yourself Alive00:36:05

Well hello people of the internet and other places too! The first episode of the podcast is now out and we spun up track one of album one for in inaugral show. Randy likes the flanger and also reveals that he is in fact the pastor of the Church of Go Fuck Yourself! Apart from that, the boys talk about heavy drum sounds, the wisdom of playing guitar with a coin and how absolutely brilliant Queen were at straddling the line between pop and rock.

Come talk to us on social media. We'd love to hear what you think. We're pretty sure it's gonna get better than this, but in case it doesn't, we'll apologize in advance!

10 Nov 2022The Prophet's Song00:49:54

Apologies up front for this one being a little long folks. But it's not our fault! Today's episode features the first spin of the wheel of Queen and it throw up the epic, eight and a half minute, monster The Prophet's Song from 1975's A Night At The Opera. The boys were split in their final evaulation of the song but that just means that someone was definitely right and someone needs to seriously rethink their position!!!

Thanks to everyone who tuned in to the first episode and left us some comments on Twitter! We'll always try to answer any questions you have and seriously appreciate any corrections you make to anything we get wrong.

17 Nov 2022Somebody To Love00:49:01

The wheel kindly gave us our first song from (the UK release of) Greatest Hits this week and we were pretty excited to talk about this one! Turns out, Freddie Mercury could really sing! We also find out that Randy was categorically wrong last week and the poll backed up that assertion. Don't forget to head over to Twitter to let us know whether you thinkg Somebody To Love is one of the champions or whether it should bite the dust!

24 Nov 2022We Will Rock You00:47:02

Hello out there you stone cold crazy fat bottomed girls and guys! The wheel burped up another all time classic. Maybe the most iconic opening of any song in history. Seriously. No surprises from Kev and Randy when it came to voting on this one. Or were there???? We recapped last week's ep, including some chat about two live performances of Somebody to Love and then got straight into the meat of We Will Rock You. Kev even managed to sound vaguely cultured by bringing up a mythological reference! He also learned that he needs a podcasting checklist to make sure he's actually using the right mic before recording. (He's on a final warning, don't worry!) Randy introduces Kev to a new, highly technical audio engineering term when discussing the way Roger's drums were mic'd in one of the live performances and generally the two chaps had a wonderful old time!

01 Dec 2022Heaven For Everyone00:48:22

Don't stop us now because we want it all! Today's episode covers a cover. Well, technically. Heaven For Everyone was originally recorded by Roger Taylor's side project, The Cross in late 1987. The album was released posthumously after Freddie's death and is a mishmash of odds and ends and rehashed tracks. Kev and Randy talk about 90s synths, the lyrical prowess of Roger Taylor, and also a little bit about whether songs sugger from being overplayed on radio and in media!

Thanks to everyone who tuned in to the last episode and left us some comments on Twitter! We'll always try to answer any questions you have and seriously appreciate any corrections you make to anything we get wrong. (There's a pretty big one in this episode that I only realized after we were done recording!)

08 Dec 2022Good Old Fashioned Lover Boy00:44:16

Randy and Kev are back for another episode. We talk about clip clops, triangles, and what in the hell a saloon actually is that you can drive in style in it! We also read out listener tweets and recap the "farrago of mediocrity" that was Heaven For Everyone (thanks to Brian Crozier for that superb phrase!) Today's track is the gigantically brilliant Good Old Fashioned Lover Boy, from A Day At The Races. Tight arrangement, beautiful vocals, TWO bridges (count em!) and some beautiful frilly lyrics. It's just a hell of a good time.

15 Dec 2022Action This Day00:45:12

Episode seven and after another Greatest Hits track last week, the boys were really hoping for a deeper cut and the wheel was in a good mood tonight. This is another first for Randy and a song that Kev hasn't thought about in quite a while. The boys talk Smokey Robinson, The Knack, and Prince in relation to the song and are faced with another Roger Taylor lyric, so it could easily go south on ya!

22 Dec 2022We Are The Champions00:53:06

Seriously? We Will Rock You and We Are The Champions in the first episodes? Kev is starting to get seriously worried that the end of this show is going to be him apologizing to Randy for a bunch of songs from A Kind of Magic and The Miracle!!! Talk about what to do with B Sides. What to do about the blatent theft of this format and how we can make it up to the people we stole it from. And mainly, two fellas dissecting one of the most instantly recognizable (second behind episode 4 perhaps!) songs ever written.

29 Dec 2022Who Needs You00:44:20

Yet ANOTHER cut from News of the World, but this time one that Randy hadn't heard before. Some fun panning, maracas, and even a little cowbell in this one, plus we head back to the "Church of Go Fuck Yourself" for another sermon. PJ sent us a great raw sessions version of the song which we rather enjoyed and we also found out that this song was too hard for Brian May to play, which is why John Deacon took on some of the acoustic guitar responsibilities! (well.... it's a theory)

05 Jan 2023Coming Soon00:44:13

Randy and Kev are joined by fellow Saskatchewanian and podcaster extraordinaire Corey Morrissette for the final episode in Season One (because Kev has literally just this second decided that seasons will be ten episodes long!) We talk about Corey's live experiences with Queen (and Paul Rodgers, and Adam Lambert), the use of Synths on Queen albums, and of course, plenty about this week's song; Coming Soon from 1980's The Game, including Kev's insightful and deeply profound analysis of the lyrics in the chorus.

12 Jan 2023The Fairy Feller's Master-Stroke00:34:25

In today's episode, homicidal painters, swanee whistles, and a thorough explanation of hockey from a bona fide Canadian. Also, a killer track from Side Black of Queen II. Kev tries to explain to Randy how he feels this side of this album really is best listened to in its entirety and Randy assures Kev that, even though he's more of a guitarist himself, he definitely knows what a harpsichord is!

02 Feb 2023Drowse00:53:01

It's the fantastic drowse of another episode folks! Kev is back and he's not happy that Randy is trying to take over!!! The boys get another Roger track and the third song they've covered so far from 1985's titanic A Day At The Races. Randy talks about the production on this one, Kev makes a comparison with the Kinks and the boys split their vote. Also, Kev's a little bit swearier than usual because he had a couple of beers before starting to record.

09 Feb 2023These Are The Days of Our Lives00:46:17

WE GOT A TEAR JERKER FOLKS! Kev and Randy discuss the wisfully beautiful These Are the Days of Our Lives, from 1991's Innuendo. Kev explains to Randy that he's pronouncing things wrong, Randy explains to Kev exactly where he can file that opinion and the boys talk fretless bass, brilliant arrangement and whether using electronic drums can leave a track feeling anchored down to a very specific time period. As always the boys cast their votes. Which way will sappy old Kev vote? Which way will Randy Heart-Of-Stone vote? Well, I guess you'd better tune in to find out!

16 Feb 2023Long Away00:51:11

ANOTHER song from A Day At The Races! This time it's the mid-tempo, twelve-string, Brian May track, Long Away. There may be a little more swearing in this episode than usual because the boys had both had two or three beers before they even turned the mics on! Nonethless, they will regale you with keen insights, witty anecdotes, and the use of expensive words such as "juxtaposition" and less expensive ones, like "beer".

23 Feb 2023In the Lap of the Gods 00:44:22

This week, Randy and Kev get their first song from Sheer Heart Attack. It's the opener from side two, which isn't related to the closer from side two with kinda the same name. The boys are split in their eventual unscientific opinions on this one but both feel that they made valid points. So they agreed to disagree, raised a glass to each other's health and vowed to come back to do it all again next week. Lots of talk about vocal shifting, high-vocals, and a little bit of chat about Alec Guiness for good measure!

02 Mar 2023Innuendo01:04:35

Through the sorrow, all through our splendour, don't take offence at our, Queen podcast.... "You're not as witty as the @lappods guys!", we hear you say! Yep. Fair enough. "You're not as informed as the Queenpod!" is a valid criticsm!" ALRIGHT! No need to lay it on thick! "Brrrgn frrgggmrrr bgrrhghg!" Look, we don't know what the LapPods guys' Glasga dialect means, so we're just gonna say, WE AGREE! Anyway, we're happy we got this song for this ep! It's a big fan song and we want to hear your views!

09 Mar 2023Delilah00:50:13

Look, it's really hard to write a good song about a cat. And I mean an actual cat, not like Cool for Cats or Honkey Cat. Those aren't the felines that lick their own arses and strut around like they own the place! In this week's episode, Kev astonishes Randy with his deep and nerdy guitar effect trivia, Randy awaits the talk box eagerly and both the boys vote the same way for the second week running on a track from 1991's Innuendo.

16 Mar 2023Fun It00:52:21

Another Roger song. The first track from Jazz. Another unanimous decision from Kev and Randy. Apologies for the audio quality difference during the Twitter discussion. Kev's internet connection wasn't great and he was recording on his laptop with no proper mic. To cap off the shit show, Zoom didn't record the audio to separate tracks. Anyway, enough of that, polar bears, drum machines, lyrics, and the third Earl of sandwich are all discussed in this week's episode. One of those things isn't true. Enjoy!

23 Mar 2023I Guess We're Falling Out00:45:56

Kev's in Ottawa, Randy was in Flin Flon, but by the grace of all the gods that ever existed (and there have been a lot!) they managed to get together to spin the accursed wheel and talk, at inordinate length, about another song in the Queen catalogue. This week it's an outtake from The Miracle sessions that is included on the Collector's Edition release of the album. We get into Jesus Murphy, arugula, and an outtake that likely should have been an album track, if not a single!

30 Mar 2023Back Chat00:41:11

Don't talk back! Don't talk back! Don't talk back! LEAVE US ALONE! Jesus Murphy, what do you people want from us? Another season of the highly acclaimed (in Kev's mind) and award-winning (in Randy's delusional fantasies) Queen podcast? We gotcha back Jack. And speaking of Backs, this episode covers the chatty kind. This one covers the John Deacon-penned third track from side one of Hot Space, the very electronic Back Chat. Kev and Randy actually got together in person to record this one. Will the friendship stand this close proximity? Will the podcast be back next week as a result? All these questions and more aren't answered in the following forty minutes of utter nonsensical drivel.

06 Apr 2023Too Much Love Will Kill You00:54:35

This episode is titled "Ballad salad", so get yer tissues out folks. It's another tear-jerker! Kev and Randy agree again on "Too Much Love Will Kill You", the heart-wrenching autopsy of Brian May's failing marriage. Yeh we know, it's getting boring, there's not enough conflict.... maybe we should just have a game of slaps to introduce some authentic tension into the show... but look, we're just two simple Queen fans with two fancy microphones, getting together once a week to talk about one of the most eclectic bands in rock'n'roll history! And we're glad to have you along for the ride.

13 Apr 2023Doing All Right01:01:35

Back to the start. Actually, back before the start in some ways, with a song written by Smile, the precursor band to both Queen and the much bigger and more influential Humpy Bong. Don't hump bongs folks, you could burn your pee pee and that's never good! Speaking of burning pee pees, Randy and Kev are back with another episode, talking about track two from Queen's debut album, "Doing All Right". Are Randy and Kev going to continue to vote the same way, or will another rift form between them, perhaps cataclysmic? There's only one real way to find out, so get stick some ear buds in and listen to this absolute nonsense at your leisure!

20 Apr 2023Fat Bottomed Girls01:04:36

"Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrre you gonna take me home tonight?" "No chance. You look like you're gonna puke and I don't want to clean up two pints of Rum and black!" Few know that this was the original line, but Freddie wisely convinced Brian to change it. Let's be honest, there are issues with the lyrics in this one but you have to love the music. Randy and Kev are unanimous once again after not being unanimous last week! Fat Bottomed Girls is on the menu this week and the boys talk drum fills, drop tunings, and Randy just won't leave the hockey thing alone! Dig in, tune out, and go comment on Twitter and Facebook!

27 Apr 2023I Was Born To Love You00:59:01

If Randy were to title this episode, and he did, he'd call it "Leave well enough alone!" Queen's rearrangement of 1985's I Was Born To Love You is the topic of conversation today and Kev and Randy dig into both the Queen version and the original Freddie version. Earnest lyrics, full Freddie harmonies, and some interesting choices from Brian make this song an interesting one to dig into. The boys were unanimous in their appraisal of this song. Also, we made a full and frank apologie to Barry John Williams for the horrendous mistake we made last week.

04 May 2023I Go Crazy00:52:47

If we were to title this episode we'd call it "Brian May got his way!"

I Go Crazy is a discarded idea from the Hot Space sessions that Brian revamped for The Works, but alas, John, Freddie, and Roger simply we're crazy about it (you see what I did there?) and consigned it to the B-side of Radio Gaga. The Cardinal of the Church of Go Fuck Yourself delivers a sermon in his church, Metallica make a shocking appearance, and the boys talk about Mary Austin selling Freddie's possessions at auction. It's another very silly hour and we hope you enjoy it.

Thanks to everyone who tuned in to the last episode and left us some comments on Twitter and Facebook! 11 May 2023Good Company00:56:47

If we were to title this episode we'd call it "Where's Freddie?"

Today we get a classic deep cut from a classic album. Good Company is a Brian May tour-de-force, in which he labours for days to assemble a New Orleans style ragtime band using only his Red Special. The silly goose could have just brought in some session players instead! But then we wouldn't have this brilliant bit of technical virtuosity to wonder at. We introduce our very first Tweet of the Week and explore the subtleties of time management. Also, we learn that Randy can't wrap his head around Northern English dialect.

18 May 2023Don't Try So Hard01:00:56

If we were to title this episode we'd call it "Polish all your shiny buttons dressed as lamb instead of mutton"

There's more chat about sandwiches than you might expect in this episode. Kev was also really quite drunk during the recording and couldn't figure out how to end it, so it's probably longer than it needs to be. Randy put up with the shenanigans with his usual good grace however and deftly explain natural vs pinched harmonics. It's a fourth song from Innuendo on this week's pod. Don't Try So Hard is the fifth song from the album and features lush synths and real percussion. Kev and Randy were unanimous on their verdict on this one. Don't forget to go vote on the polls!

25 May 2023Staying Power00:56:00

If we were to title this episode we'd call it "Freddie does funk"

Cardinal Woods wants you to all stop fiddling with your EQs, Kev is adamant about the cheese and pickle sandwiches, and the boys are once again aligned in their appraisal of this track. A nod to Joe from in the Lap of the Pods - for his rocked up cover of this one. The boys also debated the merits of synth bass, Kev's eagle ear (is that a thing?) picked up something Randy didn't catch the first time through, but to counteract this moment of genius, he also let the song run too long a few times too so there are some breaks in the music here and there - do not adjust your sets!

Today's episode covers Staying Power, the opening track from 1982's Hot Space. It’s only a bloody record. People get so excited about these things.

01 Jun 2023Breakthru01:15:56

If we were to title this episode we'd call it "Synth Bass on a Train"

Air humping, a discussion about the metric system, and a first appearance of our new cohost, Frank the Robot! It's all happening as usual over at Seaside Pod Review headquarters as Kev strolls down memory lane and regales Randy with tales of picking up cassette tapes. Randy seems fairly bored by this and is much more interested in the combination of synth base and pure Deacy on today's track. The boys also listen to the non-synth version from the Collector's Edition boxset as well as the song the intro to this song was actually meant to be!

Today's episode covers Breakthru, the second single released from 1989's divisive record, The Miracle.

08 Jun 2023Tie Your Mother Down01:20:24

If the Cardinal's wife were to title this episode she'd call it "How long is this podcast gonna go?"

Take your little brother swimming with a brick and get ready for some unexpected hot Bramley apple pie action in another episode that drags on way too long. The boys talk about harmonies, drum fills, and Randy's urgent need for ablutions in Moose Jaw. You're also gonna hear a little bit of music from the Cardinal. Also, there's something completely different in the middle of the podcast.

Today's episode covers Tie Your Mother Down from 1976's A Day At The Races and Randy hears the album version for the first time.

15 Jun 2023I Want It All01:12:05

If Kevin were to title this episode he'd call it "Randy forgot to title this episode", or maybe "passive aggressive podcast prose".

The boys are unanimous in their assessment of this late-era Queen track; the second from The Miracle in the last three episodes! They talk about whether the synths make sense on this one, why bass players are just so darned overlooked, and Randy pitches a new podcast format to Kev.

How much do you want? It all? Most? A reasonable amount? Not very much thank you, you guys aren't nearly as funny as you think you are? In any case, we gotcha covered. Today's episode covers I Want It All from 1989's The Miracle. Oh, and there's another pronouncement from the pulpit...

22 Jun 2023Starfleet00:27:48

If Randy were to title this episode he'd call it "Mutual Masturbation", or possibly, "Nice licks Eddie!".

Just a short ep for you this week with the boys talking about 1983's Starfleet project. We looked at the single edit and this one was recorded live in person so it was a challenge to put this one together months later, as we had to splice the song in as best we could! Hopefully you still enjoy it! We're going to be doing another episode on Starfleet with Corey and Mark from And The Podcast Will Rock some time in July, after the special edition release, so watch out for that!

29 Jun 2023Is This The World We Created00:54:48

If Randy were to title this episode he'd call it "This is the world we created", or possibly "We need a ballad for the live show".

Another unanimous decision from this pair of idiots who can't bear to disagree. Seriously, why do they bother? Why continue? Why speak in the third person when I'm one of the idiots? Only the Cardinal has the answer. We skirt the subject of Sun City, we talk about nylon strings and nylon vests (not really, just the first one) and track placement on The Works.

Look, this isn't one of Queen's best songs, but it's still better than a kick in the stones from an angry carpenter!

06 Jul 2023Jealousy01:02:17

If Randy were to title this episode he'd call it "To fall in love was my first mistake", or possibly "Where's the fucking kick drum!?"

Our third song from Jazz is the plaintive ballad, Jealousy. Kev is pretty sure Freddie didn't play to click tracks, Randy doesn't own a fretless bass, and who's that tap, tap, tapping at the window? Bloody Greta Garbo! Sitar schmitar we say!!! Some excellent tweets from the Twitterati this week and the boys agree that Pat Cummins should be bloody well ashamed of himself. Well, Kev does and Randy is just trying to be supportive... At least we'll always have Headingly.

13 Jul 2023Headlong01:13:10

If Randy were to title this episode he'd call it "What number did John call to phone in his bassline?", or possibly "Hey Fred, can you make this cool?!"

Hoop diddy diddy, hoop diddy who the hell writes this shit? Kev is crestfallen at the lack of lyrical imagination from the usually brilliant Brian May. Randy finds the concept of a man with a stick in his hand and a woman with a hotdog stand almost too much to take. The boys also talk about pissing in kettles, 80s music videos, and backmasked vocals. It's all here in another rambunctious, irreverent episode of the only Queen podcast with two men named Randy and Kevin hosting. Of course, we're talking Headlong - and thank all the gods that ever existed that this one is off the wheel.

20 Jul 2023Sheer Heart Attack01:10:13

If Randy were to title this episode he'd call it "Hey. Hey. Hey, Hey. It was the DNA."

Squealy guitars, racist American douchebags, a Beatles homage, and a game of scrabble that almost ended a marriage! It's all in this week's episode folks! Kev and Randy talk about vocal effects, epic drum fills, and crrrrrrrrunchy guitars and there's a distinct lack of Deacy on today's track. We're talking about Sheer Heart Attack. It's fast, it's loud, and it's glorious. Just like the Cardinal's lovemaking technique.

27 Jul 2023Great King Rat01:02:30

If Kev were to title this episode he'd call it "Please sir, can I have another solo?" or possibly, "Hey Randy, quit swanning around in Edmonton and write the damned outro!"

Rats, Brahms, toms, solos, ostentatiousness. It's all in this week's episode folks. We roll back all the way to the first album and even before that. Brian goes apeshit, Roger goes apeshit, John goes apeshit... and weirdly, Freddie is the only one trying to keep things on an even keel and he wrote the damn song! But look, why are we talking about the song, Kev called his shot. A 118 to 1 shot and he nailed it. He bought a lottery ticket so maybe next time you hear this podcast, the intro will have been custom written by Brian and Roger and Kev and Randy will be recording from Malibu because the money train has pulled into the station. K, that's less likely I guess, but, let's dream for a moment......

If Randy were to stitch Kev up and put words in his mouth, he'd title this episode "It's all condiments and no main course"

The boys were close in their assessment of this one but split the vote! We talk Bugs Bunny, the gravy and cheese based abuse of the Kurds, and listen to the 39th album track in the Queen catalogue; '39. Space faring shenanigans ensue, the thirteen bar boogie rears its ugly head again and Frank is back to lead us back into the conversation about only the second track that we've covered from the main catalogue which we didn't spin the wheel for. Strap in folks, it's a contentious one!

10 Aug 2023Save Me01:11:38

If Kevin were to title this episode, he'd call it "Save Me" but that would be really lame, so Randy's gonna call it "Sir Brian May needs no saving because he wrote Save Me!"

There's more pre in the preamble this week folks because Kev needed closure after the shitstorm that last week's episode created. For his part, Randy is very keen to keep the vendetta against his supposed friend alive and was very happy to stoke the flames of that particular fire! We talk about Israel vs Scotland, Brian's Mum, Dr. Heinz Doofenshmirtz, and finally, bring to the fore the age old debate about dill pickles vs pickled onions. Spoiler alert: Mr. Randy is wrong, AGAIN!

Today's episode covers Brian's song for a friend that closes out 1980's The Game. Yep, we're talking "Save Me"

If you want to hear Randy's song that Kev included toward the end of the episode, you can go do that here. For Kev's money it fits perfectly into that category of perfect songs that could be easily played in a stripped down arrangement. It's called "Take Me Back" and is taken from the second Absofunkinlutely album: https://youtu.be/m6r-5Mp39ec

17 Aug 2023Let Me Live01:18:50

If Randy were to title this episode, he'd call it "Oh oh, take it, take another little piece of my heart now baby. You know you've got it if it makes you feel good"

The episode is late, it's fucking long (sorry, it just is!) and Kevin is starting to hallucinate because he's been awake for almost 24 hours... The Cardinal provides an intensive sports update as per a listener request. We learn that one person's fromage is another person's cheese. We debate the big issues, like November Rain vs Every Rose Has It's Thorn? Fromage and/or cheese? We also talk sobreros, thwappy drum sounds, massively questionable lyrics, more questionable creative decisions, and of course we vote on the song. Are Kev and Randy gonna dust this one or is it going to hit the Champion pile...? Oh, also, this episide is LONG!!!! So if you want to skip right to the wheel spin, you can find it at 40:36.

Today's episode covers a partial fragment of half an idea of a potential song; "Let Me Live", from 1995's Made In Heaven.

24 Aug 2023A Kind Of Magic01:20:54

"You're alive. Why didn't you die?"

"Hey. It's a kind of magic."

If Randy were to title this episode, he'd call it "I hate real drums and I wish Roger Taylor was never in Queen!" That's what he gets for shirking his responsibilities!

It's another late, long episode folks, but that's at least partially your fault. You keep talking to us and we have to keep talking back! We get into all sorts of unsavoury areas tonight. There's more cheese chat, Pee Wee Herman is invoked (RIP Paul Reubens!), and once again, Kevin poses a perfectly innocent question to the Cardinal, that the ecclesiasticoward refuses to answer. Seriously, what's a little bestiality between friends???

Oh, and today's episode covers the title track from 1986's A Kind Of Magic.

31 Aug 2023Father To Son (and Procession)01:20:18

Hey you lovely old lot. We're heading back to Queen II today and there's more Steven Seagull in this week's episode. Look, don't blame us, we just go where the social media comments take us! We discuss whether the French should be allowed to have passports, cookie monster metal, we're accused of being rude by a man name Ruud, which is a bit rich, and The Cardinal chows down into a hearty bowl of mushroom soup mid-recording! What on earth is going on???

If Mr. Randy were to do the one job I give him every week and title this episode, he’d probably call it “The Magic is Gone” or maybe, “I don’t like guitar music and I’m thinking of starting a career as a beat boxer”.

Today's episode covers Track 2 from Queen 2; Father To Son. And, as a nice little bonus, we also listen to Procession!

07 Sep 2023Lazing on a Sunday Afternoon01:17:29

There's lots of chat on this week's episode but fear not, we do eventually get to this week's song! Lots of discussion about wurlitzers, lyric sheets, Yamaha baby grands... you obviously know why! Randy also educates Kev on where bass players come from before marching his heels to the sea. We still don't know what the strangest thing is that Randy has found in his fridge, but one thing is for certain, it isn't the Normans!

If I were to title this episode, I’d probably call it “Monet Monet Monet, must be funnay - painting in the Louvre” or maybe “Vaudevillian villainy”.

Today's episode covers the second track from Queen's titanic fourth album A Night at the Opera; Lazing on a Sunday afternoon.

14 Sep 2023I'm In Love With My Car01:10:03

We have to talk about Roger's car song. Pistons, hub caps, radials, gear shifts, and grease guns are all in play! Look, we're not saying it sounds like a seven year old in a hurry wrote these lyrics, but we're also not saying it doesn't! We talk about Billboard's laughable top fifty rock singers of all time, David Bowie (yes, THE David Bowie) tells us a story about seeing Mick Jagger for the first time (it's relevent, trust me!) and Kevin informs Randy that there are people in the world who are actually, honestly to goodness in love with their cars and show it in every way that you would another human. That's like, totally gross dude! Anyway, prepare yourselves for a lot of giggling from your two favourite idiots.

If I were to title this episode, I’d probably call it “Are you joking?” Or possibly, “Mecaphile this under just plain weird.”

Today's episode covers the next track from Queen's from last week's episiode; I'm In Love With My Car.

Oh, and if wanna watch the weird documentary about car shaggers, you can find it here! https://youtu.be/Ba9L6n8zj1U

SURPRISE! It's bonus content time. Randy is now a bonus content creator and he's thrilled about it!

As if you haven't suffered enough this week, we thought we'd foist an unrequested episode on you. We were just hanging around online and decided to take a look back at the first forty episodes and pick ten songs that we'd put on an album. And then talk about it. For too long. It's what we do! Not to give anything away, there were only five common tracks on Kev and Randy's albums and Kev was surprised at a couple of key omissions by the Cardinal. We also talked about sex robots.

21 Sep 2023More of That Jazz01:14:24

Hello all you wagoners, politicians, pedagogues, thiefs, tailors, ploughboys, harridans, and tatterdemalions. The fairy folk have gathered 'round the new moon shine To see the feller crack a nut at night's noon time. To swing his axe he swears, as he climbs he dares To deliver another episode of Seaside Pod Review. Sit back, grab a comfy seat and a good beer, cos we’re talking Queen!

If I were to title this episode, I’d probably call it “Seriously, no more of that Jazz” Or possibly, “When a great fifteen second idea is packed tightly into four minutes”. The Cardinal sure was crusty tonight but he lightened up thanks to another Queen song and may I say, the enigmatic and dashing presence of his friend, me.

Today's episode covers the song that closes Jazz; More of That Jazz.

28 Sep 2023Last Horizon00:44:11

Due to technical issues (AKA, Kev's an absolute knobhead!) we're presenting you with B-Side Pod Review installment ahead of schedule this week. Look, we all know that the solo output from the members of Queen rarely, if ever, reached the heights of what they accomplished as a quartet, but you know what? That's not gonna stop Randy and Kev from rambling on about it at the same sort of length they do in regular episodes. So sit down and get ready to be sedated. Nothin' to do, nowhere to go, so you may as well just enjoy the ride.

If I were to title the episode, I’d probably call it “Telegram for Brian May. Message reads. It’s too long. Stop. Please Stop.” or “Well, at least the lyrics aren’t bad…” We’re sad that we couldn’t spin the big wheel tonight but happy we got to take a sideways step out of the main catalogue to talk about a solo effort.

Today's episode covers instrumental "Last Horizon" from Brian May's debut solo LP, Back To The Light.

It was the best of podcasts, it was the worst of podcasts, it was the podcast of wisdom, it was the podcast of foolishness, it was the podcast of belief, it was the podcast of incredulity, it was the podcast of light, it was the podcast of darkness, it was the podcast of hope, it was the podcast of despair. Track One from The Miracle this week folks. People have opinions about this song. They're not all positive. But they're definitely not all negative. But they're REALLY not all positive. The boys split the vote again.

If I were to title this episode, I’d probably call it “Randy forgot to title this episode” Or possibly, “The Cardinal really needs to get a grip!”

Today's episode covers the song "Party".

12 Oct 2023Who Wants To Live Forever01:16:21

From the dawn of time we came; moving silently down through the centuries, living many secret lives, struggling to reach the time of the Gathering; when the few who remain will battle to the last. No one has ever known we were among you... until now. This week we're covering a song that Kev has a strong emotional connection to and Randy hasn't heard before!!! How is that possible? Well, he's Canadian, that's how! And in the early 80s, North America decided that, for some reason, Queen wasn't cool! Well, to North America, we say, "Go fuck yourself". Possibly with an Oh Henry!

If I were to title this episode, I’d probably call it “Verge of tears” or possibly, “Kev needs to get a grip! But not of a coffee crisp!”

Today's episode covers "Who Wants To Live Forever" from 1986's "A Kind of Magic".

19 Oct 2023Princes of the Universe01:15:16

What the hell is a case hammer? No, no, no, it's Kaeshammer. Michael Kaeshammer - and we talked about the gig we went to a little bit in this one. We also see the return of LaCROSS-TALK albeit only conceptually. Look, Celine Dion is so Celine now there is none more Celine than she. And also, to make sure the algorithms work; Corey Morrissette. How do we know what NASA isn't telling us huh??? We don't! There's a discussion about space battles and whether we sould tax MTG. Oh, and we also talk about the hard rocking album closer from A Kind of Magic, which is kinda the whole point of the show, isn't it!

If Randy were to title this episode, he’d probably call it "Born to be Kings", or possibly "Half a mic stand against the world!"

Today's episode covers another track from 1986's "A Kind of Magic", "Princes of the Universe".

26 Oct 2023The Miracle01:23:13

Four weeks in a row now we've been stuck in the 80s. We feel like a modern Marty McFly and Doc Brown. And as Randy is older than Kevin, that makes him Doc Brown, which is slightly confusing because that's Kevin's surname. Hey ho. What does Alanis Morissette have to do with The Miracle? A complete lack of understanding of the meaning of words apparantly.

Every drop of rain that falls in Sahara Desert : meteorology

The Golden Gate and the Taj Mahal : engineering and architecture

Test tube babies being born : chemistry and biology

Mothers, fathers dead and gone : simple atrophy

Not a miracle among them.

What on earth were the boys on when they assembled this list of so-called "Miracles"? We don't know, and we're betting neither do you. But hey, no-one ever said that a pop song had to make sense. Bob Dylan once wrote "The sun's not yellow, it's chicken!" so maybe this is all OK...

If Randy were to title this episode, he’d probably call it "We're having a miracle on earth", or possibly "What is a miracle?"

Today's episode covers, you guessed it, the title track from 1989's "The Miracle".

02 Nov 2023Hang On In There01:09:27

Back to the Miracle sessions! We're stuck in the 80s folks. It's lycra pants, polyester jackets and really, really, really bad haircuts all the way! It's also damn near our one year anniversary! We're so thankful for all of you who have tuned in to our nonsensical ramblings and incredibly sorry to have put you to so much trouble!

Can Kev and Randy find anything nice to say about another song from '89? Will Sylvester Stallone appear at the beginning of this song to avenge his mother's aunt's cab driver's cousin's hairdresser and foil a plot by the nazis to switch out her mousse for brylcreem? What am I talking about? Do you know? DO I KNOW??? There are no answers in this podcast, but you're welcome to listen along anyway!

If Mrs. Mr. Randy were to title this episode, she’d probably call it "Thank God you're still alive" or possibly "It's another song from The Miracle".

Today's episode covers the B-side to "I Want It All", "Hang On In There"

09 Nov 2023Spread Your Wings01:20:38

We've gone forward to the past! Yes, we've abandoned synths and drum machines, said farewell to high-gloss production and made our way back to Frank's house to talk about one of Deacy's very best tunes. We'll discover what hairy big toes have to do with anything, what Randy has been spending his time doing instead of working on proper music, and there's more whining and moaning about Sportsball from the Cardinal, whose eventual funeral we cordially invite you all to attend. In and amongst all this, we talk guitar tone, economy of arrangement, and C-sections (not that kind).

We also talk a little bit about the Fab Four's recently released final single, if you're a Beatles fan at all, and if you're not, take yourself outside and give yourself a jolly good talking to!

If Mr. Randy were to title this episode, he’d probably call it "Who does Sammy think he is?" or possibly "Does the Emerald Bar server deep-fried pickles?"

Today's episode covers the penultimate track from side one of 1977's "News Of The World", "Spread Your Wings".

16 Nov 2023Stone Cold Crazy01:20:32

Well, we're going back a couple more years and heading to Sheer Heart Attack. Kevin almost manifested the song for the second time!!! No, seriously, he was like 3 pixels away!!! Randy knows this song, Kev knows this song and the boys get into a discussion about whether Roger Taylor is swinging the beat. Kev insists he is, Randy is not convinced! The first song that Queen ever played live and a mainstay of the set from 1970 to 1978, this is possibly the first thrash metal song. It's also the first song credited to all four band members, mainly because they couldn't remember who'd actually written the lyrics!

We also listen to the BBC version of Spread Your Wings after repeated recommendations. Oh, and we talk about the Metallica cover that inexplicably won a grammy in 1991.

If Randy were to title this episode, he’d probably call it "Wouldn't a wet fish bone smell worse" or possibly "Stone Cold Crazy Rocks"

Today's episode covers the heaviest song from arguably Queen's heaviest album "Sheer Heart Attack", we're all "Stone Cold Crazy".

NOTE: If you want to skip ahead to Randy and Kev's manifestations and the wheel spin, that happens at 41:37!

23 Nov 2023Jesus01:15:31

Back to the first record! We're trapped in the seventies for a third week in a row and we are not mad about that! I checked on Wikipedia and apparently, this Jesus fella was kind of a big deal in Judea in the 0000s. You probably know him best from his range of sandles and uncomfortable headwear but to many he was much better known as a carpenter, principally through his Dad's construction business. There was a lot of property development around Jerusalem at the time as the populaton bounced back from Psycho Herod's mad slaughter campaign a few years earlier. Incredibly, Herod faced no charges and was retained as monarch for a substantial period! Sorry, I got a bit carried away down the Wikipedia rabbit hole there. In this episode we talk quite an awful lot about Queen! And why not. That's what the podcast is about after all!

We also listen to the De Lane Lea version of Jseus to see how it differs from the eventual recorded version.

If Randy were to title this episode, he’d probably call it "I bet Jesus couldn't drive a stick shift" or possibly "Stone Cold Jesus!"

Today's episode covers the penultimate track from Queen's debut album "Jesus".

NOTE: If you want to skip ahead to Randy and Kev's manifestations and the wheel spin, that happens at 34:23!

I had this perfect dream... and then I woke up. But, weirdly, when I woke up, I found out that Randy is running for the office of the Prime Minister of the Central African Republic! Yeh, THAT Randy! The guy who downvoted The Prophet's Song! I mean, how in the green shit did we end up here? Well, you can listen to the episode to find out, but you're gonna have to wade through a whole lot of us talking about a wide range of topics, from Nellie the Elephant to Bryan Adams. From Bruce Dickinson to Scott Moe (fuck that guy). Oh, and Queen. We definitely talk about Queen!

If Randy were to title this episode, he’d probably call it "All God's People", because he's a lazy, lazy good-for-nothing son-of-a-bitch!!!

Today's episode covers some of the leftover scraps from Freddie's Barcelona sessions, the aforementioned "All God's People".

07 Dec 2023Misfire01:10:31

"Hey guys, the bass player wrote a song and he wants to play it for us". "HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Oh, wait, what? You're serious? Oh OK then, yeh let's hear the bass player's 'song'..." That's usually the way it goes in bands but John's first contribution made it onto side two of 1974's adventurous masterpiece, Sheer Heart Attack. Roger gets a new drum, Kev's the Turkey of the Month, and we get into the weeds about the future of music as an AI "artist" is signed to a contract (and people wonder why I drink!")

If Randy were to title this episode, he’d probably call it "Is misfire a euphemisim?" or possibly, "Your gun is loaded and pointing my way!"

Today's episode covers Deacy's first solo contribution to Queen's catalogue, "Misfire".

14 Dec 2023Las Palabras De Amor (The Words of Love)01:17:41

Randy and Kev hit upon a phenomenal business idea after identifying a serious gap in the market where banjo players are concerned. The accordian is selected rather than a kazoo, we find that Arpeggio isn't the current AC Milan left back (who knew!), and Randy called his shot; well, on the album front at least! It's all going down on this week's episode and we'd like to drag you into the insane muck with us!

If Randy were to title this episode, he’d probably call it "I love Queen, just not all their songs" or possibly, "Buena banda, mala canción"

Today's episode covers Brian's synthy track from side two of "Hot Space", the soaring "Las Palabras De Amor (The Words of Love)"

NOTE: If you want to skip ahead to Randy and Kev's manifestations and the wheel spin, that happens at 35:49!

If you want to check out the Absofunkinlutely track that we used in the episode, "Soul Sucker", which was written by the Cardinal and included the album "Blues Kid City", you can check that out here. It's a vibe! https://youtu.be/dDaByP0nXWs

Kev was just tryin' to pod. That's all. He wasn't asking for much. We get into the weeds about a brown Christmas, Randy is still salty about not being able to get a burger in Kindersley at 11pm, and the boys discover that they have a potential double act that they may or may not choose to exploit at some future point. Also, Kevin makes a very strange noise and there's an awful lot of childish tittering in this hour and twenty-ish minutes of nonsense! Plus, LACROSSE TALK!

If Randy were to title this episode, he’d probably call it "Can we wrap up this Highlander stuff already?" or possibly "Kurgen. Kurgen? Who the fuck is Kurgan?!"

Today's episode covers Brian's heavy metal ode to the antagnoist from Highlander, "Gimme The Prize (Kurgan's Theme)"

NOTE: If you want to skip ahead to Randy and Kev's manifestations and the wheel spin, that happens at 40:55! Yeh, we went on a bit!

28 Dec 2023Tenement Funster01:10:46

It's a Roger tune. It's from Sheer Heart Attack. It's a song The Cardinal does not know, so Kev gets to watch his pal hear the song for the first time. We get into the weeds about endings and medleys and solos, oh my! There's more talk about Metallica's drummer (honestly, this is the last week!) and Randy reveals why he didn't buy his wife a Christmas present this year. He also gets all emotional about a rescue. It's pathetic, to be frank.

If Randy were to title this episode, he’d probably call it "Rog', just turn down the stereo!" or maybe "Mr. Randy really fucking blew it this time..."

Today's episode covers Roger's solo contribution to "Sheer Heart Attack" and he's wearing purple shoes. It's time to check in with the "Tenement Funster".

NOTE: If you want to skip ahead to Randy and Kev's manifestations and the wheel spin, that happens at 33:51

04 Jan 2024Ride The Wild Wind01:11:48

Picture the scene; a small village pub where a young couple are enjoying a quiet drink together before going to tell her parents that they're engaged to be married. They hear a low rumbling in the distance that gets steadily louder, to the point where their small wrought iron table starts to shake and the barely-twenty somethings grab their drinks (he a pint of Strongbow, she a delicate rosé from California.) All of a sudden, a sports car comes drifting around the tight corner spraying dust and pebbles all over the couple, cracking the wine glass and shattering one of the decades old front windows. The car screeches to a halt and a lithe, dirty blonde-haired man wearing leather pants, a sleeveless white tee, and shades alights, walks over to the couple, says "Push the envelope, don't sit on the fence!", retreats, climbs back into the driver's seat, and shouts "I'M IN LOVE WITH MY CAAAARRRRRRRRR!" before gunning it, spraying more pebbles, and a starlted vole, into the carnage he's already created. As the car speeds off into the shattered still of the countryside, the license plate "MEDW$" can just be made out as it shrinks to a dot and vanishes.

If Randy were to title this episode, he’d probably call it "Don't sit on the fence" or possibly "Why didn't someone buy Rog' a rhyming dictionary?"

Today's episode covers another Roger car song, this time from "Innuendo". That's right, we're covering "Ride The Wild Wind".

11 Jan 2024Keep Passing the Open Windows01:07:52

Welcome to another episode of this ridiculous podcast, with ridiculous hosts who have ridiculous opinions talking to ridiculous listeners about a ridiculous band. It's just ridiculous.

Randy pulls out his Wilford Brimley impersonation and is absolutely delighted by the sight of Freddie's football getup in the Gaga video and Brian's bone guitar! We also get down to the serious questions, like "Who's banging Mrs. Clause?", "What's the matter with Andrew?", and of course, "Are your men on the right pills?" Randy has beef with Corey, Kev is caught in the middle, and this really is the only life for all of us. So sit back, put your feet up, we're talking Queen!

"This is the only life for me" or possibly, "Stepping Out, ala Queen"

If Randy were to title this episode, he’d probably call it "This is the only life for me" or possibly, "Stepping Out, ala Queen"

Today's episode covers only our second song from "The Works", the piano-led Freddie movie song, "Keep Passing The Open Windows".

NOTE: If you want to skip ahead to Randy and Kev's manifestations and the wheel spin, that happens at 33.05

25 Jan 2024Don't Try Suicide01:19:24

Don't stop me now I'm here, Dear Friends will be Friends, Don't lose your headlong, A human body language, and Father to son and daughter. Phew, Pank sure was busy coming up with song title mashups on social media yesterday wasn’t he! I blame Richard Hearn. Look, we passed the open windows last week, but we’re talkin’ defenestration, we’re talkin’ ‘bout da Vinci and Rembrant, but most of all, we’re talking Queen!

If Kev were to title this episode, he’d probably call it “Nobody's worth it”, or possibly “Don’t Do It”.

Today's episode covers only our third song from "The Game", Freddie's black comedy aimed at an ex-lover, "Don't Try Suicide".

NOTE: If you want to skip ahead to Randy and Kev's manifestations and the wheel spin, that happens at 35:50

OUR APPEAL: If you are experiencing severe depression and are having suicidal thoughts, please reach out for help as soon as you can. You can always contact the Samaritans, free of charge, on 116 123, or by visiting their website samaritans.org.

The music used at the end of the show is "Aunt Jemima" by Randy's old band, Absofunkinlutely. You can find it here: https://music.youtube.com/watch?v=pKL-zZmO3TI

01 Feb 2024Driven By You00:42:58

You know we love you but you drive us crazy! Randy is off globetrotting on the other side of the pale blue dot, shoveling sushi and noodle bowls into his poodle hole and generally having a grand old time without me! Well, I’ll show him what for in the intro and outro. Slip it into first, push the seats back, and enjoy the ride, we’re talkin’ Queen.

If Kev were to title this episode, he’d probably call it “Driven by Who?”, or possibly “We do like cheese!"

Today's song is already our second from Brian May's first full solo album ,"Back To The Light", the piece that was originally commissioned by the Ford motor company, "Driven By You".

08 Feb 2024Scandal01:04:28

Bangkok to Saskatoon, kick a dick and see ya soon. That’s the opening number in my new rock opera titled “I wish I could think of a better blurb for this podcast”. I’m not gonna lie, I miss old Randy doing the intros and outros. Don’t tell him I said this but he’s kinda good at them. Anyway, chop all the letters out of the newspaper and blackmail the local vicar, cos if Kev were to title this episode, he’d probably call it “Scandal, what scandal?” or possibly “More sauce please.”

Today's song covers the fourth album from Queen's 1989 album ,"The Miracle". The video bored Roger to tears, but will the song work for our interpid pair of podcasters?

15 Feb 2024Get Down, Make Love01:15:11

Strawberries can go fuck themselves. Blueberries can go fuck themselves. Kraft Dinner? Yep, it can go fuck itself. What about peanut butter? Absolutely 100% suitable for a good go fuck yourself. That’s just list of foods I find unacceptable and I feel should be banned, but we’re not here to talk about shitty eats. We’re here to talk about killer beats. Come on so heavy, cos we’re talkin’ Queen.

Today's song covers the opening track on side two of Queen's 1977 masterpiece ,"News of the World", the erotically charged "Get Down, Make Love"

The song included at the end of the episode is "Why Can't We Get Along" by Randy Woods Band. Check it out here: https://youtu.be/kzR1Dq9JWrk

22 Feb 2024You're My Best Friend01:07:50

Truck yeah? Fuck no! A week late week for Valentine's day, it's time to hold hands with your significant other, take a long walk down the beach together, look deeply into each other's eyes and say "Whaddya fancy for supper then...?" There's a touch of class about this week's song and even if Roger thought it belonged in a knitting circle rather than a rock band's repertoire, it still make the top ten and the Greatest Hits record, neither of which Rog' managed up until The Works. So stick that in your carburetor and smoke it!

If Randy were to title this episode, he'd probably call it "Happy at home" or possibly "Deacy gets freaky with his missus!"

Today's song covers the first Deacy-penned single in the Queen catalogue, "You're My Best Friend" from 1975's "A Night at the Opera"

The song included at the end of the episode is "Amazed" by Kev (played on, recorded, produced, and mixed by the Cardinal!) Check it out here: https://youtu.be/YQ-qg29lfMw

29 Feb 2024The Invisible Man01:18:26

"The stranger came early in February, one wintry day, through a biting wind and a driving snow, the last snowfall of the year, over the down, walking as it seemed from Bramblehurst railway station, and carrying a little black portmanteau in his thickly gloved hand. He was wrapped up from head to foot, and the brim of his soft felt hat hid every inch of his face but the shiny tip of his nose; the snow had piled itself against his shoulders and chest, and added a white crest to the burden he carried."

That's the intro to H.G. Wells classic book.

"I'm the invisible man

I'm the invisible man

Incredible how you can

See right through me"

That's the intro to this week's song. H.G. Wells it ain't!

If Randy were to title this episode, he'd probably call it "I want a new invisible man" or possibly "Love is a stranger, invisibly"

Today's song covers the fourth single from Queen's last album of the 80s. That's right, it's "The Invisible Man"

07 Mar 2024The March of the Black Queen01:37:33

Hey, does anyone read these episode descriptions? I could probably write anything here couldn't I? I could ask you to send me photos of your favourite letter box. Maybe I could see if someone would be willing to paint themselves orange, stand on the steps of Huddersfield Town Hall and repeatedly scream "Life goes on BRA!" for four hours, or until the local constabulary arrive to deal with them. Maybe I'll start a movement of some kind and I can relay secret messages to my followers here, like the spies used to do with the Times crossword. Things like, "The elucidated octopus knows no pity". You know, that kind of thing...

If Randy were to title this episode, he'd probably call it "Bo Rhap before Bo Rhap" or possibly "Them dudes can play!"

Today's song covers the monumental centre-piece from Side Black of "Queen II", all six and a half minutes of "The March of the Black Queen".

The song included at the end of the episode is "Pharmacist on a Harley" from the latest Randy Woods Band album, "Soul Hammer" and you can find it here! https://youtu.be/WgARAxQqifw

14 Mar 2024I Want to Break Free01:24:51

There once was a Queen fan from Wigan

Whose nose he was told was a big 'un

He tried to break free

Then he fell to his knees

And consulted the Cardinal's florilegium

If Kev were to title this episode, he'd probably call it “Get a grip America” or possibly, “Simply sensational synthtastic solo”

Today's song covers the worldwide chart hit from "The Works", the slick pop anthem "I Want to Break Free".

The song included at the end of the episode is the inimitable Dudley Moore performing his masterpiece "Jump", live in 1973.

NOTE: There's a fair bit of jibber and also some jabber at the top of this one, so if you want to skip ahead to Randy and Kev's manifestations and the wheel spin, we won't think any less of you. Skip forward to 42:53 if wanna get to the good stuff!

21 Mar 2024I Can Hear Music00:48:04

Come and listen to my story about a man named Fred.

A poor balladeer, barely kept his kittens fed

And then one day while John and Roger stewed,

Well up through the mic come a bumblin dude.

Robin Cable that is, Trident Engineer, Phil Spector Wannabe.

“I CAN hear music”, or possibly “It’s not exactly a wall of sound, more a small privet hedge of sound…”

Today's song covers a song never originally intended to be a single. It features three members of Queen and a whole lot of reverb. It's the song that came out before Queen's debut album, "I Can Hear Music".

NOTE: If you want to skip straight to the manifestations and wheel spin, that happens right around 13:19.

28 Mar 2024She Makes Me (Stormtrooper in Stilettoes)01:06:28

Queen: the final frontier. These are the voyages of the Seaside Pod Review. Its continuing mission: to explore strange new songs; to seek out new lyrics and new musicla expressions; to boldly go where millions of people have gone before! It's all a bit moody over here at the SPR. Randy hasn't forgotten his suitcase this time and Kev's German accent is definitely on point!

If Randy were to title this episode, he'd probably call it “Darth Vadar in flats” or possibly, “When I get home I'm gonna rip my wife's underwear right off, cos the waistband is killing me.”

Today's song covers Brian's funereal dirge "She Makes Me (Stormtrooper in Stilettoes)" from 1974's superb "Sheer Heart Attack".

The cover version of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers' Listen to Her Heart by Cyberattack, which is clipped in the episode, can be found here: https://youtu.be/EINdLqmcYH0

NOTE: Skip forward to 23:31 if wanna get straight into the manifestations and wheel spin. We won't hold it against you!

04 Apr 2024Hammer to Fall01:07:37

"Good evening, this is Radio 4, with the news at six o'clock this Thursday evening. The Prime Minister, speaking a few minutes ago in the House of Commons, has warned that the international situation is deteriorating rapidly, and that war could break out at any time in the next two or three days."

Who in their right mind thought that showing "When the Wind Blows" to kids was a sane and reasonable thing to do? Between that and Jeff Lynne's War of the Worlds, I spent a good year or so of my life absolutely shitting myself. The dust settled, a new Queen album came out and then Brian brought all those feelings of dread back again, albeit to a rocking good riff and a brilliant vocal from our Fred!

If Randy were to title this episode, he'd probably call it "Hey! That cloud looks like a mushroom" or possibly, "No nukes in my nieghbourhood"

Today's song covers the fourth and last single from 1984's "The Works", the darkly menacing "Hammer to Fall"

NOTE: Skip forward to 30:57 if wanna get straight into the manifestations and wheel spin. We won't hold it against you!

11 Apr 2024Some Day One Day01:25:33

"Hey dipshits, how come you spent so long talking about hockey, bowling, and Roger Waters instead of getting on with talking about Queen?" Good question, good question... Also - we need to petition cinemas to have intermissions. Don't know why I thought of that just then, but maybe it will become more clear in the episode. Randy tells us about his Martin D-28, Kev tells us about his bowling playoffs, and we listen to a little bit of Q+PR. Imagine that! It's all happening this week.

If Randy were to title this episode, he'd probably call it "Any night tonight" or possibly, "Trite 'n' shite!"

Today's episode covers our first song from Side White of "Queen II" and closing song in Brian's suite, "Some Day One Day"

NOTE: Skip forward to 39.07 if wanna get straight into the manifestations and wheel spin. We won't hold it against you! Well, we will, but we'll also still love you. We're weird like that...

25 Apr 2024Fight from the Inside01:15:57

What are maple syrup tits? Well, I can't say that we ever got to the bottom of that, but Randy was sure insistent that it's a real thing even though Kevin was sceptical. The pie vs cake argument rages on and Kev is fiendishly plotting a Shepherd's Cake recipe, to prove to Randy that pie is better. We also learn that if there's no top it's a tart (and without context, take that any way you like!) and that Chrissy has designs on Brian's body after last week's song! Oh - and we talk a little bit about Queen...

If Randy were to title this episode, he'd probably call it "Ooh ooh ahh" or posibly "Attack from the rear"!

Today's episode covers the side one closer from News of the World, Roger's virtually solo effort, "Fight from the Inside".

NOTE: Skip forward to 36:21 if wanna get straight into the manifestations and wheel spin. We won't hold it against you! Unlike Dr. Hook, who wants us to!

The song featured at the end of the episode is "Humble Pie", written, recorded and performed by our very own Randy Woods with his old band, Absofunkinlutely. You can listen to it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fCSRnIrUk-A

02 May 2024Man on the Prowl01:05:05

How big is a bee's dick exactly? Well, if my extensive online research is to be trusted (and there's no reason it should be), it's 4.8mm on average. Holy shit! Bee's are packing!!! No wonder the Queen is knackered all the time... The cake vs pie fiasco rumbles on with neither side willing to give an inch, or a fuck, and we would urge you all to please remember that it's fun to clap with a friend. But, no-one should pump anyone, until I blow this whistle. Even if, and I want to make this absolutely clear, even if they do say Jehovah! We're talking piano, we're celebrating "Our Man From Estevan", and we're most definitely 100%, absolutely sure about our vote on this one. No really, we are unwavering in our decision. We didn't for one second wonder whether we'd voted the right way.

If Randy were to title this episode, he'd probably call it "Dude's jaded and looking for the ladies" or possibly, "Baby please don't go"!

Today's episode covers the side one closer from The Works, Freddies rockabilly sequal to Crazy Little Thing Called Love, "Man on the Prowl".

NOTE: Skip forward to 33:46 if wanna get straight into the manifestations and wheel spin. We won't hold it against you! No really, we won't! Well, maybe just a little bit...

03 May 2024I Believe in a Thing Called Love (The Darkness)00:31:44

Well, it's not Queen is it! What the fuck are these two idiots doing now? Branching out into other artists? I mean, they're more ripping off Pod of Thunder than In The Lap of the Pods, but hey, a good idea is a good idea. We wanted to say a huge thank you to the people who have very generously donated some of their hard earned scratch to us over on our Ko-Fi account, so we (and by that we mean "Kev") came up with the idea of letting peopel give us non-Queen songs to talk about and vote on.

Today's very first episode in thie podcast-within-a-podcast covers the third single from The Darkness's debut album, "Permission To Land"; the falsetto-driven "I Believe in a Thing Called Love".

If you want to get involved in the Kofi Klub, you can make a donation here: https://ko-fi.com/seasidepodreview and let us know which song you want us to add to the wheel! We also have a private channel in our Discord community for donors.

09 May 2024Killer Queen01:12:30

Saltpeter and sulfur and charcoal, oh my! How many pods within a pod can you reasonably expect to get away with? The cake vs pie fiasco has now spilled over into another podcast, and Corey's not having it! This week sees Kev and Randy take on one of the titans of the Queen discography. Our intrepid pair aren't scared though, in fact, they laugh in the face of danger, they tickle the bollocks of fear, and then give terror a wedgie and tell it to go fuck itself.

If Kevin were to title this episode, he'd probably call it "Triangles and tubular bells" or possibly "She's out to get you!"

Today's episode covers Queen's monster breakout single from Sheer Heart Attack, the ever so dandy, "Killer Queen"

NOTE: Skip forward to 31:35 if wanna get straight into the manifestations and wheel spin. Just remember, if you do that, you're missing all the good stuff and you're not really getting everything out of this podcast that we poured our hearts and souls into!!!

16 May 2024Ogre Battle01:03:20

Randy's having problems with his issues, whatever the hell that means! And he still won't quite raggin' on poor Kev about the Shepherd's Pie debacle. Bastard! We're goin' deep into fantasy this week and we've already had one duster from Randy for a proggier flight of fancy from Brian, way back in Episode two (oops, spoiler alert), but will he risk incurring Kev's wrath and dust this one too??? He is a man who, by his own admission, would kill for a Nobel Peace Prize... And to think, we knew him before he became notorious, and then curiously decorated!

If Randy were to title this episode, he'd probably call it "Two way mirror mountain" or possibly, "I wonder who played gong on this track..."

Today's episode covers the monstrous opening to Side Black of Queen II, "Ogre Battle".

NOTE: Skip forward to 31:08 if wanna get straight into the manifestations and wheel spin. Just remember, if you do that, you're missing all the good stuff and you're not really getting everything out of this podcast that we poured our hearts and souls into!!!

23 May 2024If You Can't Beat Them01:17:05

Randy's having trouble with the word minfastition, maniseftation, fannystemnation, well whatever it is, Randy just can't say it! In a first for the podcast, there is live confectionary eating and mroe discussion about cake than anyone needs to hear, but, we've drawn a line under it now, so we can all put it behind us! We're talking filler, we're talking Jazz, and we're definitely talking shite!

If Kev were to title this episode, he'd probably call it “You’re never gonna help yourself”, or possibly, “Deacy definitely didn’t deliver!”

Today's episode covers the Deacy's side one contribution to Jazz, "If You Can't Beat Them".

NOTES: Skip forward to 33:51 if wanna get straight into the sunnydestinationd, the funnysensations... the, ach you know, wheel spin! Also, the sound quality is a little bit off on this one as the technical frustrations we had setting up to record in person the way we tried didn't yield the best results, so we won't be doing that again.

The song featured at the end of the episode is "Never Said"; Kev's platonic love song to his childhood best friend who succumbed to his cancer in 2017. You can find it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AGsINNg8l_c

30 May 2024Life Is Real (Song for Lennon)01:04:27

This is your last chance. After this, there is no turning back. You take the blue pill - the story ends, you wake up in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe. You take the red pill - you stay in Wonderland and I show you how deep the rabbit hole goes. Is life real? Can you breastfeed yourself? And what are those stains on your pillow? If I were to title this episode, I’d probably call it “Nothing is Real” or possibly “The milky boobs are on me!”.

Today's episode covers Freddies ode to the fallen Beatle, "Life Is Real (Song for Lennon)".

NOTES: Skip forward to 30:39 if wanna get straight into the manifestations from our dynamic duo and their dastardly discordants!

06 Jun 2024Bohemian Rhapsody01:30:54

Today's episode covers the big cahuna. The monster. The behemoth. None more Queen. The song that didn't just put Queen on the map, but also tore the map up into tiny little shreds and force fed the pieces to an ungrateful music press who just didn't get it.

"Unfortunately, Queen’s lyrics are not the stuff of sonnets." - TIME magazine

"...a brazen hodgepodge..." - Rolling Stone

"A superficially impressive pastiche of incongruous musical styles..." - Melody Maker

"It has no immediate selling point whatsoever" - Record Mirror

"They sound extremely self-important" - NME

"The critics can go fuck themselves" - Cardinal Woods

If Randy were to title this episode, he'd probably call it "Nothing really matters" or possibly, "I wonder who played gong on this track?"

It's Bo Rhap time.

NOTES: Skip forward to 38:47 if you want to skip the preamble.

The song featured at the end of the episode is "Hint of Grey" written and recorded by our very own Ian Winick in his former duo, John Loves Julie. You can find all the music over on SoundCloud, here: https://soundcloud.com/johnlovesjulie.

13 Jun 2024Put Out the Fire00:52:57

In materials science, quenching is the rapid cooling of a workpiece in water, gas, oil, polymer, air, or other fluids to obtain certain material properties. A type of heat treating, quenching prevents undesired low-temperature processes, such as phase transformations, from occurring. It does this by reducing the window of time during which these undesired reactions are both thermodynamically favorable and kinetically accessible; for instance, quenching can reduce the crystal grain size of both metallic and plastic materials, increasing their hardness. All that has fuck all to do with this week's episode.

If Randy were to title this episode, he'd probably call it "There's nothing burning!" or possibly "Why didn't Rog' put gong on this track?"

Today's episode covers the side two opener to Hot Space, Brian's gun-law-hoo-haw, "Put Out the Fire"

NOTE: Skip forward to 11:58 if wanna get straight into the manifestations and wheel spin.

20 Jun 2024Sail Away Sweet Sister01:06:42

Roses are Red, Violets are Blue, I know you’re my sister, but I'm looking at you... You could sort of condense the lyrics in this one down to that sentence. Nylon strings, epic bass, and a soulful piano make up the bones of this song, but its muscle comes from the brilliance of Brian's voice and guitar work. There's a change in the format and the boys are ready to rock. There were five different manifestations from this week's album, so the wheel spun up none of them!

If Randy were to title this episode, he'd probably call it "How come you behave this way" or possibly, "Maybe Bri's parents shoulda got the boy a dog"

Today's episode covers our fourth track from The Game, Brian's sinister lamentation, "Sail Away Sweet Sister"

NOTE: Skip forward to 23:52 if wanna get straight into the manifestations and wheel spin.

The song featured at the end of this week's episode is Bode's Galaxy, by Randy's former band, Absofunkinlutely. Check it out here: https://youtu.be/lB7iaAnZOZc

27 Jun 2024White Man01:07:34

White men have a lot to answer for. Now don't get all Jordan Peterson on me and say "NOT ALL WHITE MEN!" No, not all, but damn well enough! And certainly historically. But is it a good idea for rock stars to tackle serious subjects? And how does Brian do with this one? It's back to back Bri and this week's episode is full of Stampeders and Carneys. Kev also gives an update on the upcoming Queen World Cup!

If Randy were to title this episode, he'd probably call it "Don't you see the light behing your blackened skies" or possibly "White man builds a big fire and sits far way. Native man builds a small fire and sits close"

Today's episode means we've now covered half of A Day At The Races. It's time for Brian's screed against colinialism, "White Man"

NOTE: Skip forward to 18:13 if wanna get straight into the manifestations and wheel spin.

The song featured at the end of this week's episode is Fyah Dey, by Randy's good pal Oral Fuentes. Check it out here: https://music.youtube.com/watch?v=ATENbKcEbew

It’s not the A side and it’s not the C side, well it’s the seaside as in all one word s e a… you get what I’m saying. It’s the B SIDE pod review. We’re not digging into the main catalogue today because Randy’s off working on some or other big budget Hollywood production and rubbing shoulders with the Scorseses of the world, but we’re going deep, and we’re still sittin around talking about Queen!

If Kevin were to title this episode, he'd probably call it “Summon the Kraken!” or possibly, “Geez, this didn’t get finished for The Miracle and My Baby Does Me did?”

Today's episode looks at Brian's half finished doodle "Water" which was included on "The Miracle Collector's Edition"

NOTE: Skip forward to 8:37 if wanna get straight into the manifestations and wheel spin.

The song featured at the end of this week's episode is Bottom End Machine by RandyWoods Band. It's definitely not written about a former bandmate. Honest. Check it out here: https://music.youtube.com/watch?v=HnZeFWNBXBE

11 Jul 2024Khashoggi's Ship00:54:48

An interesting fact about Saudi Arabia for you is that Oil was first struck there in March 1938, in the Dammam Oilfield. In Riyadh, around 100 camels per day are sold, and it’s home to the world’s largest sandy desert. Oh, also, they murder journalists in cold blood and are surruptitiously buying up sports franchises all over the world to distract us from the fact. Never mind eh, let’s talk some Queen!

If Kev were to title this episode, he'd probably call it "Who said that my party was all over?" or possibly "Get off my fucking boat!"

Today's episode looks at the continuation of the part with the second song on "The Miracle", "Khashoggi's Ship".

NOTE: Skip forward to 14:07 if wanna get straight into the manifestations and wheel spin.

The song featured at the end of this week's episode is God Save the Queen, Pt 3 bu Randy's old band Absofunkinlutely. Check it out here: https://music.youtube.com/watch?v=AL34VRX5xkc

18 Jul 2024Funny How Love is00:58:39

He unscrews the cap of a new whiskey bottle, shuffles about in his candle-lit hovel in his candle lit hovel, like some kind of tit, with blue fingers in mittens, he smells like the cats, and the neighbours he sickend. But enough about Randy, I’m going to make him blush! Settle down with your best cat, your best whiskey and your best mittens and get ready for some Queen, cos that’s what we’re talkin’ about!

If Kev were to title this episode, he'd probably call it “Funny how buried the vocals are” or “The spleen isn’t the sexiest organ, but the body isn’t complete without it”

Today's episode looks at "Funny How Love Is"; the gloriously glammy halfway house between the behemoth "March of the Black Queen" and the equally seismic "Seven Seas of Rhye".

NOTE: Skip forward to 16:45 if wanna get straight into the manifestations and wheel spin.

The song featured at the end of this week's episode is a devilishly funky little tune called "Kind of Love" by Randy's old band Absofunkinlutely. Check it out here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oTF2BsiemPQ

25 Jul 2024Bicycle Race00:58:13

Sixty five professional female models, sixty five bicycle seats that Halfords wouldn't accept when returned, 36 repetitions of the word bicycle. Seventy eight live performances, one hundred and one weeks on global charts, over one million units sold in the US alone and one Rolling Stone reporter sickened and outraged. Not bad for a three minute pop song featuring four musical geniuses credited with playing bicycle bells. That's Jazz!

If Kev were to title this episode, he'd probably call it “Everyone likes boobs” or possibly, “I want to ride my bike”

Today's episode looks at the gloriously camp end-of-the-pier lark, "Bicycle Race" from the equally eclectic and bewildering "Jazz"

NOTE: Skip forward to 13:42 if wanna get straight into the manifestations and wheel spin.

The song featured at the end of this week's episode is Kev's Dear John letter to the USA, "America". Check it out here: https://youtu.be/lmPOZ6ZE090

01 Aug 2024It's Late01:04:26

It's six and a half minutes long. It's blues rock. It's a Brian May tune. The Cardinal is gonna hate it. Right? Well, maybe, but you never know with that guy. Sometimes he votes peculiarly (which is a hard word to say when you're hammered!) We get into bass lines, waistlines, and wastes of time in this episode and we hope you enjoy coming along with us for the ride. One person will definitely be happy with this one as they manifested it in our Discord community!

If Randy were to title this episode, he'd probably call it "Blues Rock Queen" or possibly "So let the fire take our bodies this night. So late. Let the waters take our guilt in the tide"

Today's episode looks at Brian's three-act play about infidelity and the moral conundrums it poses; "It's Late", from Queen's titanic sixth album, "News of the World"

NOTE: Skip forward to 15:13 if wanna get straight into the manifestations and wheel spin.

The song featured at the end of this week's episode is "Stolen", from the the fabulous self-titled album from Firing at the Sky. The band is fronted by our good pal Kris Klyne, who is one of the best rock songwriters in our little province and a damn fine human being. Find it here: https://youtu.be/n5z4o0JqTHs

08 Aug 202410 From 40 #two00:47:07

It's time to recap the next block of forty songs we've covered! Is Kev going lean heavily 70s? Will Randy pick anything from Queen 2? There's a public service announcement about the perils of dying your own hair, a slight twist on the Tweet of the Week, a needless discussion of Randy's "meaty" hair, oh, and we pick our favourite ten songs form the last batch of forty we've covered! Dig in folks, we're talkin' Queen!

Thanks to everyone who tuned in to the last episode and left us some comments on Twitter and Facebook! We'll always try to answer any questions you have and seriously appreciate any corrections you make to anything we get wrong. And thanks so much for all your support as usual. 10 Aug 2024Watching the Wheels00:29:57

As a huge thank you to the people who have very generously donated some of their hard earned scratch to us over on our Ko-Fi account, we came up with the idea of letting people give us non-Queen songs to talk about and vote on. This week's song was requested by the wonderful Al Dudeney. If Kev were to title this episode, he'd probably call it "Gelatinous Instruments" or "We need more dulcimer players in the union".

The second episode in this podcast-within-a-podcast covers the final single from "Double Fantasy", the last album released in John Lennon's lifetime, "Watching the Wheels".

If you want to get involved in the Kofi Klub, you can make a donation here: https://ko-fi.com/seasidepodreview and let us know which song you want us to add to the wheel! We also have a private channel in our Discord community for donors.

15 Aug 2024You Take My Breath Away00:51:34

Episode 92 in the books already? Are you serious? We’ve covered more songs than we have left and the only big questions we have left to answer in the second half of the pod are; will Randy’s hat finally be fucked? How much is his oath going to suffer? And is he quite as committed to the church of Go Fuck Yourself as he was in the beginning?

If Kev were to title this episode, he'd probably call it “I get ever so lonely from time to time”, or possibly, “Shorter of breath, one day closer to death!”

Today's episode looks at Freddie's almost-solo tour-de-force from Queen's fifth album, the hauntingly beautiful "You Take My Breath Away"

NOTE: Skip forward to 8:56 if wanna get straight into the manifestations and wheel spin.

22 Aug 2024Bijou00:55:33

You grow up, go to school, study hard, pass your exams, go to college, take some more exams, work hard some more, you get a job, earn a bunch of money and save as much as can and eventually you buy a house, you fill it with all the things you want that make your life as comfortable as possible and you meet a girl, she steals your heart, you start a family, and you accumulate a whole bunch of new stuff. Then after all this work and all this accumulation, she wants to drag you off "camping" to go live in the fucking woods and live like a goddamn Neanderthal for no fucking good reason!!! Anyway, fuck camping. PLAY QUEEN LOUD!

If Randy were to title this episode, he'd probably call it “Jewel of the Nile" or possibly, "Oodles of Hoodala Hoodala"

Today's episode looks at the Freddie/Brian composition that tees up The Show Must Go On (aka Queen's last masterpiece), "Bijou"!

NOTE: Skip forward to 20:54 if wanna get straight into the manifestations and wheel spin.

You don't fool me

They say that repetition can be your friend in music. Well, with fronds like these, who needs anemones?

If Randy were to title this episode, he'd probably call it "Won't get fooled again" or possibly, "Queen's Nothingburger".

Today's episode looks at the David Richards-assembled mashup of leftover vocal takes from Freddie, "You Don't Fool Me".

NOTE: Skip forward to 15:27 if wanna get straight into the manifestations and wheel spin.

05 Sep 2024The Loser in the End00:57:55

Once upon a time, there was a guitarist named Mick Mars. He practiced every day. He practiced every night. He got so good that a famous musician named David invited him to be one of the spiders from Mars. After recording and touring for years with the Thin Ziggy Starman, he wanted to challenge himself more musically, so he joined the highly sophisticated intellectual rockers, Mötley Crüe, who didn't have a shit name or a shit singer and a shit drummer. Mick became the most succesful guitar player in the world. Then he died. The end. According to Kev.

If Randy were to title this episode, he'd probably call it "Forget regrets" or possibly, "Hey guys, check out this fill!"

Today's episode looks at the only Roger composition featured on Queen II, an ode to a dysfunctional maternal relationship, "The Loser in the End"

NOTE: Skip forward to 16:43 if wanna get straight into the manifestations and wheel spin.

The music at the end is "Charisma Free" taken from Randy Woods Band's debut record. If you wanna listen to it (and you definitely should, lots), go check that out here: https://music.youtube.com/watch?v=Vjt_wffBiXk

12 Sep 2024I Contain Multitudes00:30:38

As a huge thank you to the people who have very generously donated some of their hard earned scratch to us over on our Ko-Fi account, we came up with the idea of letting people give us non-Queen songs to talk about and vote on. This week's song was requested by Michele Stagman-Kurlander.

If Kev were to title this episode, he'd probably call it "I'm just like Anne Frank" or possibly, "like Indiana Jones".

The third episode in this podcast-within-a-podcast covers the lead track from Bob Dylan's 2020 release "Rough and Rowdy Ways", the tongue-in-cheek, yet playfully introspective, "I Contain Multitudes".

If you want to get involved in the Kofi Klub, you can make a donation here: https://ko-fi.com/seasidepodreview and let us know which song you want us to add to the wheel! We also have a private channel in our Discord community for donors.

19 Sep 2024Pain Is So Close to Pleasure00:58:32

Tony Robbins once said that “The Secret of success is learning how to use pain and pleasure instead of having pain and pleasure use you. If you can do that, you’re in control of your life. If you don’t, life controls you.” Then again, Tony Robbins is a gigantic cock womble, so I wouldn’t listen to a damn thing the disingenuous clagnut says. Listen to us instead. We’re talkin’ Queen!

If Kev were to title this episode, he'd probably call it “All I wanted was to start a new relation” or possibly “All I wanted was to flip a Kind of Magic to Side B”.

Today's episode looks at a Brian riff that Freddie and John tried to write a Motown song around; "Pain Is So Close to Pleasure", from 1986's "A Kind of Magic".

NOTE: Skip forward to 14:57 if wanna get straight into the manifestations and wheel spin.

The music at the end is "When I'm Gone" taken from the second release by Randy's former band, Absofunkinlutely. You can find it here: https://music.youtube.com/watch?v=jfPRCn2JAm4
