03 Jul 2024396: Packing Up and Moving On00:26:12

Emotional Residency: Packing Up Your Life for Joyful Reinvention

Assessing what parts of our lives we are ready to leave behind and what we want to bring along as we move forward is a crucial aspect of personal growth and transformation. In a podcast episode, Tonya Leigh discusses the process of packing up her belongings as she prepares to move to a new house. This physical act of packing serves as a metaphor for the emotional and mental process of evaluating what serves us and what no longer aligns with our current goals and values.

She emphasizes the importance of being intentional about what we choose to bring along on our journey. This includes not only physical items but also emotional baggage, old beliefs, and outdated thought patterns. By taking the time to assess these aspects of our lives, we can make conscious decisions about what to let go of and what to hold onto as we move forward.

Join Tanya as she shares her own emotional journey of packing up her current home and moving into a new chapter.

Talking Points:

00:30 - Introduction to Packing Up and Moving On

05:30 - Emotional Baggage and Letting Go

10:33 - Sunken Cost Fallacy and Letting Go

15:19 - Packing Up for the Future

18:41 - Moving into a New Chapter

22:47 - Joyful Reinvention through Packing Up and Moving On

Quotes:

"This has been about me deciding what parts of myself I'm ready to leave behind, what things I'm ready to let go of, and equally, what I'm ready to move towards."

"I had divorce papers, I had emails, I had things that when I read them, I was like, oh my goodness, like, who was I and who was my ex because we both had grown up."

"Does this spark joy? Does this belong in my future? Does this excite me? Does this align with my values? Does it represent who I am today?"

"Your brain doesn't know what it's like to walk through the world feeling like you are deserving."

"I believe that packing up and moving on, whether it's metaphorically or it's reality, is one of the most powerful tools for joyful reinvention."

"But then I discovered a simple shift. Or three, that changed everything."

22 Feb 2023325: ROI Of Style00:30:57

Uncovering The ROI Of Style

In this episode of School of Self-Image, host and Self-Image Coach Tonya Leigh, shares insights about the return on investment (ROI) of style. She shares how she has noticed improvements in her physical and mental health since moving to a new environment and how her friend has seen a tenfold increase in her business as a result of investing in style.

Instead of spending a lot of money on expensive clothing to appear wealthy, the ROI of true style is emotional. It will make the wearer feel abundant, confident, powerful, and great in their own skin. The conversation also discusses how investing in designer items, such as a handbag, can help change the wearer's self-image. It can provide evidence for what they want to believe about themselves and be life-changing. The speaker suggests that action alone isn't enough and that the action needs to be taken with purpose in order to change thoughts about oneself. Finally, the conversation wraps up by discussing how feeling better, more confident, and more empowered will also have an emotional ROI.

You are trying to increase your net worth. You're wanting to attract quality men. You're wanting to place yourself in quality environments. And therefore, it's important that you match the energy of that which you want. Style has the ability to help you do that.

The ROI of style also impacts your first impressions and making a great first impression matters.

So the emotional return on not only discovering your style, because that is a sign that you've taken the time to get to know yourself, that you know what you love and what you don't love, but also how you feel when you put an effort.

01 Mar 2023326: Style Standards00:17:19

Summary:

What is your minimum style standard?  If you don’t know yet, this is the perfect episode ofor you. Setting a standard for yourself in so many areas of your life is important, including your style standard.  Maybe it is lip gloss and mascara before leaving the house, or never wearing sweats.  One of mine is, spoiler alert, hoodies.  Hoodies are great and many women can really rock a great hoodie.   But they just are not my style nor part of my style standard.

Style standards vary widely depending on a number of factors such as cultural norms, personal preferences, and current fashion trends. But your everyday style standard is focused on your expression of YOU. Styling what you wear helps boost confidence and a positive self-image. You want someone to see you, and your style, and know it expresses your unique authentic self.  This is the very reason why I emphasize style and I advocate it.

If you’re curious to know more about how you can start elevating your style standards, be sure to check out The Style Experience with me while you listen to this week’s episode!

What I Cover In This Episode:

0:00 - Intro

0:30 - Little things that count

1:25 - How do I decide what to wear

3:07 - What are my style standards?

3:57 - The importance of consistency

5:09 - The impact of your “I am” statements

6:11 - How to create your style standards

8:34 - How to raise your style standards

9:27 - How style is essential in boosting your confidence and self-respect

12:09 - Reasons why you should consider having your style standards

15:53 - How to define your purpose

Quotes:

“We can use our style and our environment to help us create new feelings. Which is why I'm an advocate of changing our environments. I'm an advocate of changing our style. I'm an advocate of taking action to shake things up. Because it gives you new perspectives. It allows you to access new thoughts. And it's a quick and easy way to shift the energy at the moment.”

“Do you have a set of operating principles that you live by that make it easy to make decisions in terms of how you dress, how you carry yourself, or how you communicate? These sets of operating principles also help you to see yourself in a way that serves you. They help you to elevate your self-image.”

“What my standard is may not be your standard. That's the point of style. Style is to be original to figure out who you want to be and to express that on purpose.”

“So stop being lazy, stop looking like a bum, let's get up, get dressed, and put our best self out to the world. But more importantly, put your best self out there for you.

“You can have one outfit, one pair of shoes, one statement necklace, one bold red lip, one haircut, one pantsuit, one pair of jeans, one jacket, but literally can change your life.”

Embracing Enoughness: Transforming Your Mindset This Holiday Season

An abundant self-image is fundamentally rooted in the belief that one's worth is expansive, regenerative, and independent of external validation or accomplishments. This perspective shifts the focus from a scarcity mindset—where individuals often feel inadequate or insufficient—to an empowering understanding of self-worth that is inherent and limitless.

In this special Christmas Day episode of the School of Self-Image, host Tonya Leigh shares her heartfelt reflections on abundance and gratitude. After a morning of journaling, Tonya expresses her desire for every woman to experience the overwhelming joy she felt while making her morning coffee. Instead of a tangible gift, she emphasizes the importance of a mindset shift, proposing that the greatest gift she can offer is an abundant self-image. In this episode of the School of Self-Image podcast, Tonta Leigh discusses the "dos and don'ts" of living a charmed life, inspired by a quote from Neil Donald Walsh. She encourages listeners to be the source of charm in the lives of others and to make everyone they touch feel lucky for crossing paths with them. Tanya also shares some anecdotes from her personal life, including hosting family and training for her first pickleball tournament. Finally, she reminds listeners that it's the little things in everyday life that can bring the most joy.

[00:03:35] Living a charmed life.

[00:04:33] The meaning of 'charm'.

[00:06:20] SOSI South.

[00:13:01] Being a Giver, not a taker.

[00:16:51] Impress yourself.

[00:21:13] Stop focusing on the unattractive.

[00:25:03] Don't sweat the small stuff.

[00:29:29] Slowing down for a charmed life.

Quotes:

Charm means the power of giving delight or arousing admiration to achieve something as if by magic.

Life gives to the giver and takes from the taker.

Live to impress yourself.

Another thing to do if you want to live a charmed life is to unplug from the unattractive.

Charm and complaining don't go together.

But the other beautiful thing about slowing down is that you begin to realize that life can only be as beautiful as you make this moment."

"People can call me superficial, they can call me whatever they want, but I love pretty things."

"I want to be wealthy in all of the ways and not just financially."

28 Jun 2023343: The Emotion of Clothing00:13:15

Enclosed cognition is the idea that the clothes we wear can influence our thoughts, emotions, and behavior by triggering certain associations and expectations that we have with those clothes. By using clothing to create associations and shape our self-image, we can influence how we see ourselves, think, feel, and behave. This can also impact how others perceive us and the narrative that is built around us. Changing our style can lead to significant changes in our lives, as it is all interconnected. Therefore, it is important to ask ourselves what emotions and beliefs we want to cultivate about ourselves and choose our clothes accordingly. This concept is a core pillar within the school of self-image.

In this podcast episode, Self-Image Coach Tonya Leigh, discusses how we can control the narrative of how we want to be perceived through our clothing and style choices.

Enclosed cognition suggests that our clothes can trigger certain associations and expectations. By choosing clothes that align with our desired self-image, we can cultivate beliefs about ourselves and behave accordingly. Tonya emphasizes the importance of making associations between ourselves and our clothes first, before considering how others may perceive us. She also shares personal experiences of how her style choices have led people to associate her with certain places or qualities. This episode highlights the power of using clothing to transform our self-image and behavior.

“I had a lot of doubt, but I kept going. I kept doing the things that doubt told me I shouldn't do.”

“ I want you all to know that when you see me, it's not that I don't ever have doubt. I want you to know that probably a lot of what you're feeling, I feel too. It's part of growing, it's part of evolving, and it's part of changing our identities. That's all normal. The difference is I don't let it stop me. 14 Jun 2023341: 5 Signs It’s Time for a Closet Cleanse00:28:04

In this episode, Self-Image Coach Tonya Leigh emphasizes the importance of shaping our surroundings to change our thoughts and self-image. She believes that merely thinking our way to a better life is not enough because there are too many factors involved, such as triggers and trauma. Therefore, she encourages her listeners to change their surroundings to give themselves a fighting chance. This includes changing what we see in the mirror every day, as the reflection tells us a story about ourselves.

Tonya discusses the five signs that it's time for a closet cleanse. The first sign is that you have a closet full of clothes, but nothing to wear. This means that you have a lot of items in your closet, but you don't feel confident or comfortable in any of them. The second sign is that you're holding onto clothes that are outdated or no longer fit your current style. The third sign is that your clothes don't fit properly, either because they're too small or too big. The fourth sign is that you have evolved as a person, but your closet hasn't kept up with your changes. This means that you may have different style preferences or body shape than you did in the past. The fifth and final sign is that you feel overwhelmed or stressed when you look in your closet. This could be because you have too many options or because you don't have a clear sense of what you want your style to be. Overall, the host emphasizes the importance of regularly cleansing your closet to ensure that you have a wardrobe that reflects your current style and makes you feel confident and comfortable.

Furthermore, the host discusses the dangers of going unconscious and overstuffing our closets. She compares it to overeating to soothe ourselves and buy more to solve our problems. When we don't stop and assess our habits and behaviors, we can accumulate so many things that our closets become too full, and we can't find anything. Tonya believes that cleaning out our closets is a symbolic gesture to the universe that we're ready for change and that it's essential to stop and assess our habits and behaviors to avoid overstuffing our closets and our lives.

[00:00:00] Closet Cleanse Signs.

[00:08:45] What Your Closet Says About You.

[00:13:23] Personal style and wardrobe.

[00:18:05] Embracing empty spaces.

[00:25:30] Style for reinventing identity.

[00:27:40] Transforming your self-image.

Quotes:

  • Because there's nothing healthy about being caught up in a cycle of self-loathing and frustration with your body and really being at war with yourself.

  • I got rid of 50% of my clothes. And there it was, there she was, just like half full, lots of space, which to me represented space for introspection, space for reinvention, space for a future.
  • But the question becomes, have you taken time to really get to know yourself? Know yourself on the inside and the outside. I am worthy. I deserve beautiful things. I love taking care of the body I have right now.

15 Feb 2023324: What Are Your Clothes Attracting?00:22:30

"Dress to Attract: Using Style to Influence Your Life Trajectory"

SUMMARY

In this episode of the School of Self Image, host Tonya Lee reports good news for those who have been following her moving drama. Her things arrived and she is grateful. She shares how her mind can work in funny ways, as she was worried she was scammed after reading forums about people who had been scammed by movers. She encourages her community to focus on what they want and not take on other people's stories to avoid being a mess. In the end, her things arrived, in their completeness.

Tonya Leigg recently took on a six-month no shopping challenge and it was inspired by her realization that often when people make more money, they spin out of control and fill their lives with more and more things. She found that what people are really after is a feeling and that buying things does not necessarily create those feelings. She created a Style Experience program to help women get clear on what they want and how they want to show up in the world. In the program, they will engage in virtual style days, coaching calls, and the Style Lounge where the speaker will provide feedback and inspiration.

Tonya discusses the importance of clothing and the effect that it can have on how one views themselves and how others see them. Everything is energy, and one's clothes are no different. According to the Law of Attraction, people will be attracted to those with similar dress styles. The speaker used to dress in scrubs and sweatpants to hide her body, but she changed when she discovered the Style Experience, which is a luxurious experience that helps people discover their unique style and how to express it.

What we cover in the episode:

0:00:00   Exploring the Power of Self-Image and Style

0:02:45   Reflection on Moving Day: A Conversation with Fonz and My Mom

0:04:15   The Role of Shopping and Clothes in Our Lives

0:09:28   The Impact of Your Clothes on Your Energy and Attraction

0:11:53   Dressing on Purpose: How Clothing Can Impact Your Mental and Emotional Processes"

0:18:11   The Power of Professional Style: How Dressing for Success Can Impact Your Life

0:19:58   Attracting People and Opportunities Through Your Style

HIGHLIGHTS

I was recently on a podcast with my friend Stacey Bayman. She has a great podcast called Make Money as a Life Coach, and she brought me on to talk about the effective style in our lives. And she was sharing about when she needs to write copy for a sales page or for her programs. She will get dressed up to the nines, because the energy that she feels can be felt, in her words, because everything's energy, you all it's all connected.

There's a term called enclosed cognition, and basically it's a psychological phenomenon that looks at the effects of clothing on your mental and emotional processes. And they've done studies, one being that they put students in a lab coat and compared their grades with students who weren't in a lab coat. And the students in the lab coat scored higher on the test. And it's because the association of a lab coat symbolizes intelligence, power, confidence, and how that impacts how you think.

And the same goes for clothes. Your clothes have an energy that impacts how you see yourself. And so on one level, those clothes are calling forth an action from you. And at the same time, it's attracting opportunities and people that are attracted to that energy. So at the end of the day, the clothes impact your energy. They impact how you see yourself, but also it's impacting how other people see you.

So come and join us at the Style Experience. You can go to schoolofselfimage.com/styleexperience and check out all of the details. So today I have a question for you. What are your clothes attracting? And I want you to sit with that question for a moment and really think about it. Because everything is energy. Everything is attracting certain things to it. It's why certain people gather in certain places. There is an energy there that calls like energy towards it.

We're going to be having virtual style days along with coaching calls. We're going to have the Style Lounge, where I'm giving feedback around style and sharing stylish inspiration. And so if you have not checked this out, it's going to be a very high end, luxurious experience where you are going to elevate how you show up in the world. And you are going to discover your unique style and how to express that, not only in how you dress, but in how you carry yourself and what you choose.

12 Apr 2023332: The Courage To Be Seen00:19:30

"Overcome the Fear of Being Seen: A Guide to Embodying Your Queen Energy".

SUMMARY

Tonya Leigh is a master life coach and the host of the School of Self-Image podcast. In this episode, she is discussing the importance of having the courage to be seen.

Courage is an important quality to cultivate in order to be successful in life. This is why self-image work is so important. It involves seeing yourself as worthy, capable and deserving, and then having the courage to back this up with action. This is why the School of Self-Image is offering a five day workshop, where participants will learn valuable things and will be taught in a new way. It's a great opportunity to bring friends, family and confidants along. During the episode, Ambrose Red Moon's quote about courage is discussed, which states that courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the judgement that something else is more important than fear. This is a useful reminder when it comes to overcoming the fear of being seen, which is a common fear for many people.

In this conversation, Tonya discusses the fear of being seen and the reasons why people may be afraid of this. The fear of judgement, rejection, and failure, as well as cultural norms and trauma that may have been experienced when being seen. Tonya also talks about how the majority of the world is actually rooting for people to be seen, and encourages them to take up space and express themselves. The key takeaway from this conversation is that although it may be scary to be seen, it is worth it to live a full, authentic and bold life.

What We Cover in This Episode:

0:00:00   Stepping Into Your Queen Energy

0:01:50   Overcoming the Fear of Being Seen

0:04:27   Self-Discovery and Awareness

0:06:12   Overcoming Fear and Embracing Your Authentic Self

0:13:23   Reflections on Courage and Self-Judgment

0:15:48   Fear of Being Judged: How to Embrace Courage and Reach Extraordinary Goals"

0:17:39   A Challenge for the Week

Quotes:

Would you rather be like the person who's on stage giving it their all or the person up in the stands criticizing?

Because, let's face it, if you've been fearing being seen for years, maybe even decades, it's not going to go away overnight.

A big life requires that you feel big emotions. So this means that the courage to be seen is not about not fearing it.

To me, the other reason why you may be afraid of being seen is because of cultural norms.

It's a lot of self discovery and awareness and overcoming fear. And one of the common fears that I see when women start to dress differently is that they're so afraid of getting attention because their entire lives, they've dressed to avoid that attention, because attention is scary.

I'm talking about being seen for who you are. Have you ever had that person in your life who just sees you? You know that they see who you really are, and there's so much love and celebration and acceptance of that. It's a beautiful thing.

04 Sep 2024405: 5 Life Lessons Learned from Interior Design00:39:31

Interior Design for the Soul: 5 Life Lessons to Elevate Your Self-Image

One crucial aspect of embracing contrast in life is recognizing and integrating all facets of oneself, including the shadow side. Tonya Leigh explores the significance of embracing contrast in interior design and how it can be applied to life. Just as in design, where contrasting elements can add depth and richness, embracing the diverse aspects of our personalities enables us to explore neglected or denied facets of ourselves, fostering personal growth and self-acceptance.

Tonya stresses the concept of the shadow side, a term introduced by psychologist Carl Jung, which refers to the darker, less desirable aspects of our personalities that we often try to conceal or suppress. She underscores the importance of not only showcasing our positive traits but also acknowledging and accepting the parts of ourselves that may not always be bright and cheerful.

Tune in to explore the parallels between interior design choices and self-image transformation.

Additionally, Tonya mentions that changing one's style and wardrobe can be a helpful tool in reinventing oneself and creating a new identity.

"Unlock Your Potential With A Pain Push - Your Guide To Personal Development Through Style & Self-Image"

SUMMARY

In this episode of The School of Self-Image, the host Tonya Leigh talks about the concept of a pain push, which is a way of motivating yourself to take action and achieve your goals, even when you feel like you're sabotaging your own efforts. She explains that it's important to recognize what your pain points are, and use them as your motivators.

In this conversation, Tonya reflects on a moment in her life when she hit rock bottom and was fed up with her own behavior. She calls it a pain push and views it as a blessing in disguise that was the catalyst to make big changes in her life.

So maybe you want to visualize the pain. If you continue to do what you're currently doing, that's causing you to create results that are painful, that's causing you not to live the life that you know you're here to live and allow yourself to sit in that for a moment.

You have a brilliance within you and I'm simply here to help you figure out what that is.

You can think about something and the brain's like, oh, we're in trouble just from visualizing it and thinking about it. And so knowing this, how can you visualize pain in a way to inspire you to take action?

Sometimes, my friends, it takes a good old pain push to get you going.

Conscious Consumption: How Your Choices Impact Your Life

In this episode of the School of Self-Image podcast, host Tonya Leigh discusses the importance of conscious consumption. She prompts listeners to reflect on what they have consumed throughout the day and its impact on their lives. Tonya also introduces the upcoming "Week of Calm" workshop and shares her experience of finding calm amidst the chaos of the COVID-19 pandemic. Tune in to learn more about the power of conscious consumption and how it can positively shape your life.

What Tonya covers in this episode:

01:04 Week of Calm.

07:05 Conscious consumption.

09:22 Self-image and reference group.

15:11 Consuming sexy foods.

18:38 Letting go of consumption.

Quotes:

What have you consumed today? From the books you've read to the people you've hung out with to the music you've listened to, and even to the food that you've ingested.  I want you to think about the impact that those consumptions are having on your life. Are you consuming consciously?

If it's meant to be it's up to me.

If you want to change your life one of the quickest and fastest ways to do it is to start consciously consuming what you want to become.

I put myself in certain environments that instantly shook me up to potential new perspectives and new ways of thinking and therefore fast-tracked my growth and my experience in those areas.

Do you want to become that thing that you're consuming? Because if you don't, you need to stop consuming it.

A beautiful life has more to do with what you subtract than what you add.

04 Dec 2024418: Holiday Essentialism00:25:23

From Overwhelm to Calm: Redefining Your Holiday Season

The holiday season often brings a whirlwind of activities, expectations, and societal pressures that can lead to feelings of overwhelm and stress. This approach encourages you to focus on what truly brings you joy while letting go of obligations that do not serve you.

Inspired by Greg McCowan's book "Essentialism: The Disciplined Pursuit of Less," which encourages focusing on fewer but more meaningful activities, Tonya challenges listeners to ask themselves three key questions:

Living in the now could be easy for some, but for others is not. So, let me ask you a question ~ When was the last time you try something new? There can be a lot of different ways to answer this. One thing that stands out is if you’ll answer it based on what you think or what you feel.

Most of you can resonate that we compare ourselves to others without even knowing it ~ I wish I can achieve so much at an early young age as her. I wish I have a successful career just like her. I wish I can look more radiant as she is. I wish I didn’t settle for less than I deserved. Stop wishing and start doing it for yourself.

Setting standards is the topic I want to highlight today. Let me share the importance of having standards in your life, how setting standards high can help boost your self-image, and how to be your ideal woman. This works for me and will definitely work for you too!

So, make sure to grab a pen and paper and start upgrading these five standards immediately. All that and more when you listen to this episode!

“One of the stories that it reinforced for myself is that I shouldn't want for too much.”

“The things around you are affecting you. The things outside of you if you ingest them, become you.”

“As you raise your standards, as you raise what you expect and what's normal for you, the universe will begin to mirror that back to you.”
