"Then he heard Wei’s scream get cut off abruptly and then he heard a quick succession of thumping… like a body falling down the stairs… or being dragged. And then a moment later..." In story one this week, we go to Beijing! A beautiful and ominous, ivy covered French baroque style mansion sits in a complex with another mansion inside an impressive courtyard in the Dongcheng District of Beijing. Originally built by the American Catholic Church in 1910 and then used from 1930 until 1949 as a Chinese language school to train foreign missionaries, the house then began a long, long period of sitting unoccupied, surrounded by stories of the vengeful ghost of a scorned woman haunting the grounds And now, to Iceland! Hurrá is a popular bar/nightclub in Reykjavik, Iceland. Hurrá doesn’t just make the lists of the best pubs in Reykjavik, it also makes the lists of the “most haunted” spots in all of Iceland. Local lore claims that a young sailor was murdered on the shore where the bar now sits, many centuries ago, and his spirit never seems to have moved from the place where he died. Story three considers the idea that being in touch with the other side might be something passed from one generation to the next when a red bouncing ball appears to multiple in one family. Story four has us encountering a house full of paranormal activity that seems to be coming from a gnome. Then story number two of this Halloween themed episode, Dan takes us to Columbia to visit the haunted falls of Tequendama. A really big, scary episode! We start off in Germany for the tale of the Weiße Frauen, AKA, The White Woman of Bavaria! She is rather sneaky and will have you looking over your shoulder. After that, Dan tells a tale so haunting that Lynze actually started to cry during the episode. Louisa Muskovits is a woman living in Tacoma in 2018 who was, or possibly still is, being oppressed OR possessed by an evil spirit. This tale will shake you to the core. In Lynze's half of the show, we explore a possibly haunted English countryside in. The story may not make you jump out of your skin but it sure will make you think twice about the sound of footsteps. “Something out here is trying to kill us. It wants us to swerve off the road and crash - it’s TRYING to get me to swerve off the road and crash." Dan has two fantastic tales this week but Lynze's stories seem to be the one's that really give the chills this week. Dan tells the story of a tired, over worked cab driver in Vera Cruz. At the end of his shift, all he wants to do is go home and go to bed. A beautiful woman begs for a ride home and he is so captivated that he drives her home. When he returns the next day to take her on a date, he is shocked to learn that she has been dead for many, many years. Continuing with the theme of seeing weird things while driving, Dan takes us to Scotland to visit one of the most haunted roads. Two brothers encounter so many bizarre things, so many spirits that it would seem impossible to not be real. Lynze, unintentionally, starts off her half of the show with another tale of seeing bizarre and scary things while driving at night, her first tale is a 2 for 1 special about the Smiling Man. While driving through their small town, the see the Smiling Man not once, but twice. Wrapping up the show is an insane story about a shape shifting doppelgänger. It's a long story that bobs and weaves. Pay close attention and enjoy your nightmares, creeps and peepers. Bad Magic Third Annual Giving Tree Info: This year marks the 3rd annual Bad Magic Giving Tree! Over the last 3 years, we have taken what would be the monthly donation for a charity and kept it in our Bad Magic family.The first year, we only had the donation money.Then last year, the fans wanted to help. Dan and I offered to match the total amount donated, which was maybe a bit insane, as the fans donated over $18,000. Lynze and I also donated more than $18,000, plus the $11,000 from Timesuck’s Patreon and we had over $47,000 to spend! How will we choose who we help? That’s the hardest part. But here is what seems to be the best way to handle it:We believe that every kid deserves a happy holidays - Christmas, Hanukkah or otherwise. And we know the pandemic has made it harder than ever to give kids a nice holiday for many families. The requirements for to get some presents for the family this year are quite simple. We ask that you be honest. And we ask that only those with kids reach out. We are happy to keep your names anonymous from the community and it is entirely your choice if you want to post about your gifts. Of course, we cannot accommodate everyone but we will do our best to help as many people as we can. An area of the outdoors that has been rumored to be haunted for decades. I’ll share some lore and an intense modern encounter story. The second story is the sorcerers of Chiloé . In 1880, on an island off the coast of Chile, several residents were convicted of belonging to a secret society of warlocks using black magic to intimidate and in some cases, even murder. The trial uncovered some very, VERY strange local lore involving monsters, wizard duels, and ghost ship, and more. First, to New Zealand for some history, paranormal lore and a creepy modern encounter inside the former Kingseat Psychiatric Hospital. Then, we’ll head to Texas and explore various ghostly encounters that have all taken place at the former Yorktown Memorial Hospital. Lynze has a lengthy tale about how one women went from being a host for something to kicking it out and learning how manifest her own gifts. A spirit that seems to feed off all of this torment and make it worse seems to be attacking a family. Then the infamous legend of the Dover Demon. Cryptid? Alien? Hoax? Did four teenagers really seem some sort of monster in a Massachusetts town just outside of Boston in the Spring of 1977? Then in the back half, Lynze shares a new "thing", a tulpa. She and Dan had never heard of it and the fan submission will make you wonder if the hat man himself is a tulpa. Then, a family tale of encountering some kind of shadowy figure and the remnants of what appears to be some sort of ritual while cleaning a home that is not their own. "You don’t want to be with me,” Kris replied, her voice gravely and low. Laurie realized that there was still laughter— a different, high-pitched laughter, at the same time as Kris was speaking. “You want to be with them. You hate me.” Dan brings it this week with two incredible stories! The first story is a tale of a couple who decide that, due to the pandemic, they are going to move out of their busy city and out to the mountains of Montana. It all sounds so sweet, almost dream like! The dream of making an old house their new home quickly goes sideways when a room of dolls is discovered. From the moment the dolls are found, everything changes. A possession in the Philippines is Dan's second story. It's a sad story, the story of a young girl living a hard life. Her hard life grows harder when she is incarcerated and then possessed. The ending of this story though, is a real head scratcher. Lynze admits that this weeks stories are a bit less spoopy than usual, she's starting to crack up a little bit. Her first story will take us to the World's Fair in St. Louis in 1904 where an abandoned baby goes on to lead a very interesting life and is possibly still quite interesting in death. Then, a chance encounter with the beast of Bray Rd. Two friends set out to cruise around and enjoy a few beers. When one of them needs to answer natures call, a horrific scene unfolds. Then, to end the show, a protective Grandpa makes a return visit to make sure his granddaughter remains safe. He begins with the tale of the man for Taured. This story explores the concepts of the multiverse, an idea explored by many people. Could it be possible that our lives as we know them are only iteration of our lives? What would you do if everything you knew to be true, to be fact, was taken away from you? It's such a bizarre concept to dig into a new topic for some big creep factor on Scared To Death. It's Dan's second story that throws Lynze into a tizzy. Have you ever been in an amusement park and felt yourself overcome with fear of being lost? Or worse, being kidnapped? This story has so many layers of scares, there is no way you listen to it and get a good nights rest. Lynze brings three stories this week for a smattering of shadow people tales. Which of the three is the most horrifying? Probably the first tale. The story might be short and sweet but the photograph as the end is haunting. Why in the world would a man just up and leave him family to live, alone and secluded, on an island that he then COVERS in dolls? After years of living on the island, why does this man turn up dead? What have others discovered when visiting The Island of the Dolls? Are the dolls alive? Possessed? Is it all in their imaginations? From Mexico City, Dan takes us to Colorado. More specifically, we are going to Riverdale Road. This road is know by many to be extremely haunted. Listen to Dan share a tale of three credible witnesses who are lured in by the spirit of women with a decaying face, a woman who tries to burn them alive. Lynze pulls us back to more traditional stories. She also starts in Mexico and shares a long standing family story from a fan. Whoever posted this tale never gave an exact location and there are several hotels around the country that have had the name “Sunway Hotel.” It’s a nice twist on the creepy haunted hotel story. The next story is about a mythical creature from Mayan mythology - the Alux, a creepy little creature some people still believe in - like the current President of Mexico. Lynze has three stories, each on the shorter side, which makes them pack a fast paced punch. Her first tale explores ghosts in the graveyard, then she guides us to a hostel for a spoopy tale and then she rounds out the episode with a strange story that is hard to explain without giving it away! Dan starts this week with a very bizarre story. It's hard to even explain but we are off to Finland to review a tale about a sculpture garden. Four residents of a memory care clinic die under rather suspicious circumstances in close proximity to one another and all after seeing a little boy with black eyes outside their window. It all seems to start with a disgruntled family member who may have placed a curse upon another family member. "Know that - this is a dangerous ritual. To go inside the box is to risk bringing something back with you when you leave. Have you ever heard of The Devil's Toy Box? A truly intense and terrifying way to contact the other is the basis for Dan's first story this week. He takes us on a journey of three friends who dabble in the occult and find that it's much scarier than they ever thought. Keeping up with the tradition that Dan and Lynze set up last year when Dan told the tale of the Smee, we’ll go back a little further to the Victorian Era of England when ghost stories were extremely popular in the UK, and again, when they were most popular around Christmas. Christmas ’twas the season for horror in the mid and late 19th century for many British Empire nations. Stick around until the end of the story which will leave you wondering who is who?! Lynze mixes it up a bit this week with three tales instead of two. In her first story, we hear the account of a one soldier seeing another soldier in Iraq, in the middle of the night. Or did he? What exactly is out there in the former battlegrounds? In her second, and very quick story, we explore a possible sleep paralysis. As Lynze tells the story, we think it's all of the usual marking of sleep paralysis but then, she revels one final fact that changes it all. Wrapping up the holiday episode, a cautionary tale of things that go bump in your house. What do you do when things go missing, are moved without you noticing? Do you automatically blame a ghost? "They’d only made it a few paces when Louise’s boot snapped loudly on a twig. She winced and froze. “I hear you,” The woman sang in a high pitched voice. “Keep walking,” Nathaniel whispered. They made it a few more paces, when Louise heard the distinct sound of a third person’s footsteps, directly behind her. Louise felt a hand reach out and firmly grip the back of her arm." Dan starts with his two stories, like normal, but they’re a bit bigger than usual. They both take place outside and are both classic ghost stories. The first comes from England - Wychwood Forest - and the ghost of Lady Amy Dudley. Does the spirit of a woman who died long ago still roam the forest, searching for the man who may have had her killed? And can she kill? The next story takes us to Southern Oregon - to an old cemetery in Cottage Grove - a town Lynze and Dan once drove right on by when moving from Santa Monica to Couer d’Alene. Did a young couple confront a ghost who still wants to guard his land? The second half of the show, Lynze brings us a story of a person who tells their tale of surviving an exorcism. So often on this show, there are questions about exorcisms and what might happen afterwards. Just last week, Dan told the tale of a woman who died soon after her exorcism. But not this guy. He lives to tell us all about it! Her second tale is beyond creepy. A young couple moves into an apartment, meet all of their neighbors- except one. On a seemingly regular night, both people see two different people occupying the neighboring apartment. Are either of them real? Dan starts with an alleged anonymous modern encounter involving a man hearing a girl’s voice as a child - a voice asking him to wake up, and a voice that keeps asking this for many, many years - well into adulthood. And then finally, something very strange happens that leaves him feeling certain that this voice did not just belong. Then, a tale that is about the mysterious and troubling disappearance of a young man who disappeared in the Idaho wilderness, not far from where Dan grew up, back in 2018. Lynze takes us back to our childhoods with a creepy game of hide and seek. Then she wraps up this episode with an unexplainable story from an EMT. The first is the story of a Florida teacher who in 2012, became convinced that some of her teenage students were possessed by demons, so she took them on a very ill-advised and highly illegal field trip. "He stared down at himself with the same horrified expression. I knew right away he saw it too. As I opened my mouth to say something, he screamed. His feet fell out from under him, and I screamed too as his head hit the edge of the bridge, as I watched him seemingly get pulled straight down into the river." In Great Falls, Montana, some police officers are among those who believe that one of their jail cells is haunted. The Old Cascade County Jail was built in the early 1900s, directly across the street from the west face of the courthouse. Bob Edwards, a Cascade County Sheriff , claims he saw a strange mist floating through through the old cells on a video monitor. It spooked him. And to this day, he has no explanation for it. According to local legend, she was believed to dabble in witchcraft. Or at least that’s what she was accused of. One night, some scared local townspeople decided to form a vigilante lynch mob, and take what they considered to be justice into their own hands. They decided to kill who they believed to be a heretic. And when they made it to her house that night, they grabbed the poor woman, and they hanged her from a tree directly in front of her her home. According to legend, in her last moments, she cursed the house and the surrounding land and still haunts the area today. Summer Camp should be a fun time to hang out with your friends and enjoy your freedom from your parents. It shouldn't be a place that you and your friends find themselves terrified of what comes in the night. In story one, Lynze walks us through a very bizarre summer camp story. After that, she has two more tales, both about haunted houses. The first house appears to very angry when the new owners begin to renovate. It's a classic haunted tale! For Dan's first story in this poltergeist double feature, we head to Birmingham, England. In the Fall of 2021, Christine Evans claims her family was brutally tormented by an intense amount of disturbing paranormal activity. And the second story is full of roughly the same activity - activity to allegedly have occurred in Fermanagh County, Ireland over a century earlier in the story of the Cooneen Poltergeist. Lynze has two tales, the first of which is really wild! She shares with us a police officers mysterious encounter with a shadow person. Then its off the the swamps of Florida where we hear about a couple of friends shared experience with a creature of the unknown. Our first tale is about The Hammersmith Ghost Murder Case! Starting in November 1803, the British citizens of Hammersmith were worried about the typical concerns of daily life we all still worry about - money, health, taxes, family squabbles, neighborhood crime, etc.They were also worried about something not of this world.They worried that something paranormal was going to attack them like it had allegedly already attacked some of their neighbors. Now, in our second story, we explore the lore of other cultures. Every culture in the world has its own unique spin on the supernatural. Every religion has their own demons - or demonic equivalents - including Hinduism. From what we understand, the Hindu religion teaches and warns about three primary groups of evil entities. First the Bhuts [ boots ] also sometimes called bhutas [boo tuhs]. The Bhuts are supernatural creatures - often called ghosts. Usually they are described as being the sprit of a deceased person, often considered to be perturbed and restless due to some factor that prevents the spirit from moving on.Next there are Pretas [ prey-tuhs ] - eternally hungry, zombie-like entities. They are the wandering, tortured souls of those who were false, corrupted, compulsive, deceitful, jealous or greedy in life.These dark entities wander the earth at all times, generally unable to be seen. Always miserable. Always looking to feed.And then there are the Pishachas [ pee shakas]. The worst of the dark spirits. What happens when one encounters a Pishacha? Closing out the show, we have two tales, both which feel unbelievable. A story of possible alien abduction and a loss of time and as story about how psychics might have more power than we want to believe. This early 19th century Tennessee story about a malicious, spiteful spirit rumored to have antagonized the Bell family and many others around them for several years is one of America's most famous paranormal horror accounts. The first story is an encounter with New Mexico's La Mala Hora - the "Evil Hour" also known as "The Evil One," a spirit you don't want to drive past at a crossroads. TW: There are some pretty graphic sexual true crime details in this one if you want to skip it. "But then a week later, Remy fell into another trance. And she started speaking to her husband in that same foreign voice - a voice that was angry this time... And then this voice gave him the names — AND the phone numbers — of four different people Teresita knew who could identify this jewelry as belonging to Teresita. And then the voice, after urging him again to PLEASE contact the authorities - it went away again. His wife snapped out of her trance. " It's a bizarre episode of Scared to Death! Dan has two rather interesting stories that walk the fine line between true crime (which they are, for sure) and paranormal (which they might be, who knows?!). Dan kicks off the show with a very well documented death of Cindy Elizabeth Hack James. It's a topsy turvy twister. Cindy is a women who someone wants dead, but whom, or what, is after her? For SEVEN years, Cindy is harassed, attacked, stalked and eventually killed. But who is the killer? Then, in the second story of the show, Dan is certain he has evidence of the paranormal and after life. When a middle aged woman is found dead in her apartment, with no signs of forced entry and no enemies to speak of, it's just the beginning of the most bizarre murder mystery. Teresita was a popular and well liked woman, so when she turned up dead, the questions began swirling. Police would never have predicted just how they would solve this case. It would appear that Teresita was uninterested in finding eternal rest, until she brought her killer to justice, even from beyond the grave. This singular tale has Lynze somewhat excited for what might exist, beyond this world. Listen in closely and follow the details of this Scared To Death: Unsolved Mysteries episode. Lynze also some very unique and spooky tales for her half of the show. In story one, we are off to Columbia to hear the tale of a son who is deeply concerned for his father and the dark forces that seem to be at play in his life, both in the world and beyond. Is Oscar's Dad in trouble with money, women or the devil? Something bizarre sure is swirling around Oscar's Dad and if he isn't careful, it might also consume Oscar. This weeks episode is EXTRA special!! Dan and Lynze recorded on the road, from one of the most haunted cities in America, NEW ORLEANS!! Dan and Lynze love NOLA, which is no secret. This week the pair was on the road and wanted to try out recording an episode while away from their recording studio in Coeur D'Alene, ID. As the world starts to reopen, Dan will be touring again for stand up, so now seemed like the perfect time to test out the traveling recording kit! If you're considering watching this episode on YouTube, note that this entire episode is in complete 360 degrees! With that out of the way, get ready for four stories that all take place in New Orleans! Does is get any spoopier than NOLA themed stories, recorded in NOLA. "Guests began to witness what they would later think was the Chef’s ghost in the dining rooms or near the front door. Sometimes smiling at a guest. A few even claimed he asked them if they’d enjoyed their meal. Dan has a great story to kick off the episode, about one of NOLA's most well known families, The Brennan's. The Brennan's own many restaurants in New Orleans and thus, have a hold on some of the oldest buildings. When one of their top chefs passes away, it would appear he is not quite ready to hang up his chef's hat. In his second story, Dan shares the tale of Louis Congo, a former slave turned executioner, and one man's possible encounter with him. Louis was freed from slavery only to be subjected to a whole different kind of hell. Did Louis enjoy torturing and killing people? Is it possible that his spirit still haunts Jackson Square, awaiting another person to break on the wheel? Lynze also has two very intense New Orleans stories. Taking place very near Jackson Square, a fan submits a story that begins at the Moon Walk. A security guard has the strangest encounter with someone that he can see but more importantly, can small. Is this a vision, a spirit or a homeless person? Stick with the story to find out if whatever it is, has the ability to leave the Moon Walk and follow the security guard to another location. In her second story, we offer a TW about suicide. Lynze shares the story of the NOLA Cannibal. Perhaps you have heard this tale. A story of drug use and mental illness combined with love and the aftermath of Katrina, a man murders and chops up his former lover, cooking and preserving her body. Years later, when two friends visit the scene of the crime, is the spirit of the deceased trying to communicate her story? Tune in to find out! In a strange twist, both Dan and Lynze only have one story each this week! It’s a story about what seems to be a particularly deadly cursed object. It’s a random tale from a random forum - no real documentation with it. The second story shows up all over the place. The lore of the Toronto Tunnel Monster. Does a cryptid - or do multiple cryptids - dwell in the elaborate and massive system of tunnels that lie beneath Toronto? Lynze is back to to her two usual tales, sort of. The first story is actual two from the same person. A young girl seems to be in touch with the other side and two tales, one of astral projection and one of premonitions show examples of the this girls connections to the other side. Dan's first story is weird. We had a hard time tracking it and understanding it so if you have trouble too - don’t worry. We’ll talk afterwards and clear up any confusion. Then, we’ll visit what sure seems to be a powerfully and malevolently haunted former seminary room in Maynooth in County Kildare, Ireland. A haunting that reads like the basis for a really good horror movie. Then, Lynze shares an interesting haunted apartment story where a family lives in two separate apartments in the same building that both seem to be plagued by the same "something". What is it? Where does it stem from? Then, lastly, a creepy mimmic tale. Or is it? This weeks entire show is really weird and does not offer a ton of solutions, making it that much scarier.

"His face was just… blank. He didn’t have a face! How he could he not have a face? I turned around and tried to get away from him. I tried to climb back down and I fell. I could hear him coming after me. He kept letting out these muffled screams.” We are off to Australia, if you believe it's real, for the story of a very famous haunted cave, the Jenolan Caves. Many of us go on tours while we are on vacation. What if you went on a tour and you were the only person who could see an extra tourist, also on the tour? As we listen to Dan share the hauntings of this cave, you will be left to wonder how such a beautiful place could give you such a scare. Keeping in theme with adventures you might go on, Dan attempts to make the woods and hiking a NO-GO for Lynze. In an undisclosed location, there is a "man" with no face, making people disappear. Is he real? Are people disappearing? What kind of control does he have over them that keeps people in the woods for days. Listen in and decided if you still want to spend time in the woods. In Lynze's half of the show, she gives us three stories this week. In the first story, CC tells how a previous episode (69) sends her into a bit of tailspin, reminding her of the horrors of a shadow man or hat man she thought she had dealt with in her younger years. Was it a dream? Her imagination? Or, was he really there? In the second story, Lynze tells us about three cousins who have two back to back experiences. Both instances are bizarre and unnerving. If more than one person experiences something, does that make it more true? Finishing out the episode is a less scary tale but spoopy, none the less. " Dan weaves horror this week, telling us about Japanese traditions of Kimodameshi. The folklore that comes out of Japan is possibly some of the best and most terrifying. In the summer months, they celebrate a season of hauntings. What do two friends get themselves into when they try to complete a test of courage? Then back to the states to famously haunted Biltmore Hotel in Miami. A honeymoon gone sideways when a very strong message is sent to the lovebirds that they aren't welcome. A hotel steeped in history and crazy stories, this haunted hotel story is a classic. Lynze knows Dan and others will be divided on her first story, sharing the tale of a possibly powerful crystal that doesn't seem to be doing anyone any good. Can a spirit or entity attach itself so strongly to an item that the affected person just won't abandon it? Then, a really, really tough story of a haunted house that ends in tragedy. CAUTION! Then for a little twist, Dan tells various tales of people who have worked on horror movies and have seen a whole lot more than they bargained for, when the cameras stopped rolling. Lynze has a life long haunting tale to tell of a woman who has been plagued by the same spirit her whole life. It would seem that this spirit showed up in her childhood and never left. Dan shares two stories. The first one is a big one. We’ll visit the Gunter Hotel in San Antonio, Texas. Did an infamous murder committed there in 1965 lead to the hotel gaining a reputation for being particularly haunted? The history at the top of this tale is awesome! Then, we’ll travel across the pond to Leeds, England and look into a claim that either a monster or someone who was just monstrous moved into a row house right after its tenants moved out in the 1940s, and began harassing the neighbors. Lynze also gives us two tales from opposite sides of the world. Her first story is about a seance gone wrong. But let's be honest: when do they ever go "right"? Then, a very freaky and bizarre tale of a possible alien encounter in Australia! Hang with us this week for a slower paced show.
