16 Aug 2021 | Greg Anglea - CEO, Interfaith Community Services | 00:22:14
“It often takes people a lot of support and really deciding they are going to ask for help, which is a very difficult thing. Most of us don’t want to do that. So when somebody does do that, and they come through our doors and we reach out to them here on the streets of San Marcos…we really want to find out where they are at and help them move forward in the most caring and compassionate and dignified way possible.” - Greg Anglea, CEO of Interfaith Community Services Greg’s career has been devoted to helping others. After graduating with a B.A. in political science from University of California, San Diego in 2003, he worked at the Joan B. Kroc Institute for Peace & Justice at the University of San Diego. 15 Sep 2020 | Steve Munson, Dos Desperados Brewery | 00:17:04
It all began over 20 years ago when Dos Desperados founder, Steve Munson (@dosdesperadosbrew) got the brewing bug. His first brew was a Mexican style ale and was such a hit at his backyard cookouts that he could no longer keep up the demand brewing in his family home. That is when Steve decided it was time to turn his favorite hobby into a business. In 2014 Dos Desperados was born. Dos Desperados or "the Rebel in all of us" perfectly represents Steve's adventurous brews– Habeerneros IPA, double Dealer Brown Ale and Homicidal Manic Stout– just to name a few.

06 Oct 2020 | Jim Floros - President & CEO, San Diego Food Bank | 00:18:18
“Since the beginning of COVID, just in North County we’ve distributed about 6.5 million pounds of food. And we’re feding about 130,000 people a month in North County.” - Jim Floros, President & CEO, San Diego Food Bank Jim Floros joined the San Diego Food Bank from the Burn Institute, a nonprofit dedicated to reducing fire and burn injuries and deaths, where he served as executive director and CEO from 1992 to 2012. Before that, Jim served as director of community relations at the world headquarters of Project Concern International, a development agency that provides clean drinking water and immunizations in the poorest regions of the world. Since taking over as president and CEO, Jim has presided over a major expansion of Food Bank programs, cutting-edge facility improvements, an increase in the number of people served by the Food Bank every month from 320,000 to 350,000, and led major food drive, fundraising and marketing campaigns. Jim oversaw the funding and construction of the Food Bank’s Recycling & Composting Center located at the rear of the Food Bank’s warehouse facility. The center will prevent 600,000 pounds of waste from going to local landfills every year and will save $25K in annual landfill fees. The center takes the Food Bank one step closer to becoming a net-zero waste organization since all food waste processed by the center is turned into compost and donated to local community gardens. Jim led the Food Bank’s acquisition of the North County Food Bank through an agreement brokered with its former parent organization, North County Community Services. In 2015, the San Diego Food Bank assumed full control of the North County Food Bank’s hunger-relief programs, staff, truck fleet, and its warehouse facility in San Marcos. The acquisition doubled the Food Bank’s outreach and services in North County and brought added efficiency and greater resources to hunger-relief services for individuals and families in need. Discussion Topics: [6:00] What adaptations the food bank has made to be more environmentally sensitive and a zero-waste facility [6:52] Making the move to a temporary new home, and plans for a bigger facility [7:30] Talking numbers and impact in North County [8:30] Impact of COVID on volunteering and what the food bank did to respond to turn it around [11:14] Addressing the food insecurity among the military and North County student population [13:30] How you can get involved to help

19 Jan 2021 | Chris Megison - President/CEO And Co-Founder, Solutions for Change | 00:27:04
Solutions for Change was founded in 1999 by social entrepreneurs Chris and Tammy Megison because they didn’t think it was right for babies to be sleeping on the floor of an emergency winter shelter. Prior to starting up Solutions for Change, the Megisons developed and directed work and housing programs that helped thousands of homeless men get jobs, pay rent and earn their way back into society through an intense boot camp style program. As dozens of families began to show at this shelter, the Megisons realized that they were confronted with an enormous problem. The entire homeless response system was woefully inadequate to deal with the needs of homeless families. Big solutions were in order and with the help of other community leaders and entrepreneurs, Solutions for Change was born. Their vision was different from the current “handout” approach to homelessness. It did not include more shelter beds, feeding programs or traditional human services, but rather an innovative, permanent solution focused on well-being and capacity building. Solutions for Change creates access for parents to the right set of opportunities, addresses root causes of dependency, and equips people with the skills, knowledge, and resources to permanently solve their homelessness. The comprehensive model addresses three key areas: personal development (well-being), workforce development (economic capacity), and community development (service). It blends affordable housing, educational opportunities, employment training and health related solutions all within one cohesive strategic partnership.
