The new hire got fed up and shook his can of coke and it spewed in the supervisor's face during lunch. Everyone laughed at the supervisor. The new hire later on took of his hard hat to wipe some sweat off his head and the supervisor wrote him up for not having his safety gear on as retaliation. The people in the group reading this post gave all comments addressing the symptoms, but not the problem. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) provides comprehensive guidance on preventing heat stress in the workplace. Their guidance aims to protect workers from the potentially dangerous effects of excessive heat exposure. OSHA's heat stress guidance emphasizes the importance of recognizing and preventing heat-related illnesses in the workplace. It highlights the significance of acclimatization, which allows the body to gradually adjust to working in hot conditions. OSHA recommends employers to implement heat acclimatization programs, especially for workers who are new to hot environments or returning after an absence. The guidance emphasizes the provision of water, rest, and shade to workers as key preventive measures. Employers are encouraged to provide cool and readily accessible drinking water and encourage workers to stay hydrated. They should also establish work-rest schedules that allow employees to take frequent breaks in shaded or air-conditioned areas. The guidance further advises employers to modify work practices to reduce heat exposure, such as rescheduling strenuous tasks to cooler times of the day and using mechanized equipment to minimize physical exertion in high temperatures.

In this episode, Sheldon speaks to Chief Operating Officer of NEBOSH and Vice President of INSHPO, Dee Arp. Dee and Sheldon speak about how NEBOSH faired during the pandemic with hybrid workspace, open book examinations for reduction of in-person testing, what is NEBOSH, strategic partnerships across the globe, and psychological safety in the workplace. Dee is a Chartered Safety and Health Practitioner of IOSH and a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Educational Assessors. She has worked in occupational health and safety for more than 20 years and in her role as NEBOSH Chief Operating Officer, has responsibility for providing leadership on the development and assessment of NEBOSH qualifications and compliance matters. Dee holds a Certificate of Continuing Education (Principles and Practice of Assessment) from Cambridge University and is now undertaking the University’s Masters in Education.
